This tool got me out of a need in a haystack situation with our fire suppression system "Protector Wire" in about 5 hours. We have 10's of 1,000's of feet of wire on our sprinkler systems and we had a ground fault in our freezer racks. Anyone familiar with these systems will understand how daunting this was. This tool will not tell you where a ground fault is occurring but it will tell you exactly where the wire runs. This just leaves the matter of breaking the circuit in the middle and checking to see if the fault clears or not. Then, break it in the middle of the side with the fault again until you get it nailed down. Our system has plenty of splices from previous repairs that let me quickly eliminate most of the enormous system. I was able to pick up the signal loud and clear, even several thousand feet of wire away from the source. This tool instantly made me a professional. I now honestly look forward to the Protecto Wire problems. Thank you Fluke. I did not receive any sort of compensation or discount associated with this tool. If this tool is lost or stolen, I will immediately replace it with an identical one.

The house is older and shows it by the illogical splices and runs pulling from a single circuit. Easy to use and a great value
I bought this to trace wires in my old home that was “remodeled” with a sub panel at one point. None of the original or the add on circuits were labled.
When I started having some wall sockets go dead, I was somewhat lost so I got the Fluke.
It works PERFECTLY for following a wire pair!
I put it in the modulating mode and can follow the wires through the walls and the ceiling by simply walking through the house.
It proved to me that the wiring is sound and the problem ended up being two 30 year old circuit breakers that are bad.
This is a GREAT TOOL!

Davvero ottimo strumento oltre le aspettative.
Usato per motivi di lavoro davvero un ottimo strumento. La sensibilit tale da comprendere subito se la coppia cercata presente in mezzo alle altre cento oppure no. Con altri cercacoppie la ricerca pi “laboriosa” e porta via pi tempo. Inoltre si ha la certezza della continuit elettrica della coppia. Ponendola in corto si ottiene, usando la modalit tono, una variazione dello stesso. Ogni corto una variazione. Si ha insomma la certezza della continuit elettrica su entrambi i fili e che non vi siano falsi contatti. Con altri cercacoppie, su tratte corte, si hanno false misure positive. Inoltre in questo periodo Fluke regala per questa fascia di prezzo, un altro strumento a scelta. Ho ottenuto un “Fluke Voltalert 2 AC — Rilevatore di tensione a penna, senza contatto” che su Amazon viene venduto a quasi 30 Euro. Una ragione in pi per acquistare. Oltre le aspettative.

Im a automotive technician at a dealership and chase broken wiring in big chassis harness’ relatively often. bought this tool in hopes of isolating broken wiring within said harness. first job paid for itself when I was able to have an audible tone through a 1″ bundle of wiring, tape and loom. have used several times and works excellent for automotive purposes. buy a cheap set of plug in headphones to aid in noise cancellation in loud shop setting.
deffinenlty recommend this tool for electrical service tech’s will pay for itself on first use.

Used it to trace a dead outlet to a hidden GFCI. Looked for the GFCI for weeks, this found it in 2 minutes. Took longer to open the packaging!

I needed a tool like this to trace TV cables in my older motor home. I had a bunch of old cables and none of them seemed to go anywhere. With using this unit I was able to identify that the switch box was bad and then find the correct cables that ran from the roof antenna to the 2 TVs.
I did have to make a hookup for the cables as the connectors that come with the unit were too big to attach and stay put while using it. After that, it was easy. I do recommend this unit for tracing wires.
Product is not for troubleshooting live connections, meaning, if either end is plugged into a device and device is powered on, this will not help at all.
I even had tough time finding few non-live cables as others have.
I hope this review helps someone.

The industrial boiler I recently used this on required me to trace out and replace a couple probes and their wiring. Sure enough I hoped up 20’ on top of the unit, applied the tracer to the de-energized wire and traced it back to the cabinet with ease. What could usually take hours only took me minutes! I’m very happy I mad this purchase.

Das Gert ist sauber und Robust verarbeitet, bietet ausreichend Lautstrke auch in lauten Umgebungen oder wahlweise einen Kopfhreranschluss, wenn man seine Umgebung nicht stren mchte oder es doch zu laut wird.
Kabel und Klemmen machen einen sehr soliden Eindruck und der erste Einsatz hat mich gleich berzeugt.
Lediglich die Verpackung war etwas nervig, weil ohne Werkzeug nur schwer zu ffnen.
Achtung: Es werden 2 9-Volt-Blockbatterien bentigt, die nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten sind.

Works well and is very similar to the one I used while doing telecom work, over 15 years ago. I successfully used the jack toner on a patch panel to identify (UTP) Cat6 cables, through their sheathing.
It’s worth noting that I initially purchased the Triplett Fox & Hound Jr for this task, but could never confidently identify wires — even when connected to bare copper on both ends. So, while the Fluke borders on “too expensive” for the rare DIY / homeowner tasks that require it, it does perform well and I’m glad I have it. I count on it working for many years to come.

Awesome tool. Had an outdoor receptacle stop working after a storm. Traced the wiring through the finished walls, ceilings, floors of my house until it went back outside on the other side of my house. Sure enough it was wired to a GFCI on the front of the house that had tripped. Never would have found that without this tool

Had tried one of those cheap models from Harbour Freight and a less expensive blue model recommended here, but neither worked for me. Granted this one cost a fair bit more, but it's well worth it. Made finding a break in my low voltage wire child's play!

We needed to find a broken connection in wiring that was installed 10 years ago, but never previously connected to power. We were expecting we would have to tear sheetrock off walls in order to find a broken wire or bad connection. This product is billed as useful mainly for tracing network (low-voltage) wiring. We found it to be equally effective in tracking 14-gauge wire and since we had no power flowing through the wires, it was perfect for us. It took a bit of time to sort out exactly how to use this and get used to some of the noise from other live wiring. Eventually we got the hang of it and located the break in the wire — fortunately in a very accessible unfinished ceiling.
