Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving been abroad for 6 weeks my garden lawn needed cutting and I decided to invest in the Flymo strimmer. Quick delivery via Prime, competitively priced and easy to assemble it did exactly as I expected and what I thought would be a time consuming jod was relatively quick thanks to the Flymo strimmer. I would certainly recommend it to family and friends.

Not easy for me to put together, though it is apparently just a click assembly. It works really well though and is great to use. A bit heavy but that’s a workout for your arms!

Used this first time this morning.

Had to do the strimming in four sessions as my entire body was wracked with muscular exertion.

However I am determined to use it as the results were so good.

Looking on amazon later to get some bigger shirts to facilitate my expanded chest measurements.

Bought my second one of these after the wife managed to somehow smash the last one, I had bought a bosch one first but that was awful quality so I returned it and got another contour as the previous one lasted a few years before the wife destroyed it.
The contour has a good feel and does not get uncomfortable during long use, the only downside is the auto spool which often sticks the wire together and requires manual adjustment.

It takes a time getting used to. It was easy to build, but it took some time to get used to strimming and even more to get used to the edging.

Works well, good value for money. A bit awkward to stand up or store easily when not in use due to its shape and could do with cable hooks on it to wrap the cable around for easy storage but otherwise. . Not bad at all.

My first strimmer! Wasn’t sure what to expect but I had done lots of research and opted for this one. Though corded, the cable is long and I have an extension going from the shed, so no issues there. Does a great speedy job of edging and strimming. Really sharp edges (see pic) and I’m not disappointed with the product at all. May be a little bit weighty for some people and tight curves I found a little tricky, but with some more practice I should get there. The wheel allowing you to roll the edger along is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp edging

I have “upgraded” from the Contour 500XT which was brilliant to the Contour 500E which is okay.
The 500E strims fine and is easy to use.
What I don’t like is the cable storage facility which only allows the cable to be wrapped around by the handle. The foot pedal can be used but the cable slides off easily. I have to carry the strimmer some way to my grass and it’s a nuisance when the cable unravels! It never did with the 500XT.
The two button release is too flimsy. Again I preferred the one button where you just squeeze the handle. As soon as the handle is released you lose the momentum trying to find the button. I know this is a safety feature but not well designed in my opinion.
I have always used Flymo products and this is the first time I have felt any disappointment.
Spoke with Flymo who confirmed there is a fault and have authorisation to return i

Design is good and use to use. However, the trimmer line is awful it kept tangeling up and a 10 min job took 35 minutes as I had to keep untangeling the line and rewinding the cassette.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAs people who know me will tell you, I am a very hard person to please. I also very rarely write positive reviews about things I buy, but this strimmer is genuinely so good that I felt compelled to write one.

But firstly, just to get them out the way, there are two slight negatives:

    1) The dead man switch is a little too firm to keep pressed down, and it does end up aching your hand every few minutes. People with less strength could struggle.

    2) The spool does occasionally need to be manually pulled through.

However, these are the only negatives I can find. The strimmer absolutely burned through our incredibly overgrown garden (the grass was almost a meter tall in places with weeds everywhere, tree stumps to navigate, big stones and bricks hiding underneath, and stone/fence edges too) and the machine didn’t use anywhere near as much nylon as I expected it to, and it easily stood up to every test.

Whilst the machine is slightly heavy – and you do have to switch arms every 5-10 minutes – the results are certainly worth the pain!

Genuinely didn’t expect the experience to be pleasurable, but it really was!

    Top marks, highly recommended!

    Great machine.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have for several years been using a battery powered Bosch strimmer but wanted a more powerful mains powered strimmer with no worry of battery going flat halfway through the job. I have owned a lightweight flymo strimmer before which was mains powered but it used to struggle on heavy weeds and grass. The 500e strimmer purchased went together fairly easily. I watched the flymo’s video on flymo web site which also helped.
I had a little problem fitting the main shaft into the upper handle and lower motor housing, it seemed very tight but eventually went together.
The day after putting it together I put it to the test on a long stretch of grass and weeds which I have at the front of my house about 25 metres in all. The flymo did a great job. I did however have to stop several times as I found the flymo on off trigger difficult to keep a grip on for prolonged periods. Also this strimmer is heavy, much heavier than I thought it would be. Overall I am happy with it but think for some it would prove too heavy if using for long periods. In my opinion if flymo had made the handle easier to grip and made the on off switch a one finger trigger type switch I would have given it five stars. Overall a very good piece of garden equipment which hopefully will last for years.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFabulous stimmer, genuinely couldn’t be happier with it. After having purchased different brand previously, that turned out complete disaster, I really didn’t know what to expect, but my garden literally turned into a jungle, so I had to make a decision. Buying this one, was definitely a good one. I can’t really use lawn mower because my garden is super bumpy, so I was hoping that it’ll do the job. It certainly did. I’ve done both; front and back garden with it, and it dealt with even tallest grass (we’re taking around 50cm tall) without hesitation. It’s not particularly heavy, the only downside is safety button that you have to hold pressed all the time, but it depends how long you’re going to use it for. Long story short – great machine, and I definitely recommend.

The battery life is around twenty five minutes. And if you wish to convert it to a two string strimmer then a hole needs to be drilled opposite the existing hole. Done this to mine and its a lot better and not to much for the motor .

Good strimmer, does what you expect. I will probably buy better wire for it as the standard stuff isn’t the best. It struggled with center of corners, so you need to adjust it a bit to get in at them. The guard stops you fully getting at them.

It is rather heavy, and I’m a 6’2 big fella. If you’re worried about strimmer weight, probably best to look at a lighter one.

One small note of caution though its not exactly lightweight, & the trigger to work it is quite hard to use for any length of time , so if you have a weak grip it may not be for you .

Golden Review Award: 50 From Our UsersMy 18 year-old Flymo grass trimmer recently gave up the ghost. The plastic joint on the shaft had snapped and whilst the motor was running as well as ever, it was rendered unusable. I did my usual research and decided upon this particular 300W version as a like-for-like replacement.

The main selling point for me was its lawn edging ability and in particular, the design of the edging wheel. Many trimmers seem to have only one or two small rollers which I though may not last the test of time whereas this one has a large central wheel – much sturdier and more practical looking. It’s performance on paper is slightly higher than my old one with 50 extra watts of power and a 2cm larger cutting diameter. It doesn’t seem like much of a difference but in practice, is very noticeable.

If I had reviewed this strimmer immediately after using it for the first time, I’d have said it was horrible and wouldn’t have recommended it. It was a bit of a faff to build (mainly because I found the instructions to be poor due to the lack of text) and I ended up just looking at the photo of the trimmer on the box to see what it should look like once assembled. It’s a wee bit heavier than my old trimmer – probably because its bigger but is still pretty light. However, the shaft flexes at the plastic joint and this means that it wobbles about a bit when you’re using the trimmer to cut tall grass. I’m not entirely convinced of its longevity but we’ll see.

The main issue I had when I first used it was that when used as an edger, you have to strim from right to left. With my old one, I did the edges from left to right so found it quite difficult to control and had to work out an entirely new route around the garden instead of the one I’d followed for 18 years. This meant that some plant leaves met with an untimely end and the lawn edges looked ‘less than linear’ (a mess!) in some places. With my old trimmer, you only had to flip the entire thing over to swap between edging and long grass trimming but with this, you have to push a button and flip only the trimmer head over; a case of slightly pointless ‘progress.’ However, with an open mind, I thought that I’d gradually get used to this new approach and I certainly have. I’m 5ft 10in and find that the overall length of the trimmer is just fine and I don’t have to stoop at all, especially when using it as an edger as most of the weight is over the large wheel.

I mentioned the slight step up in specification compared to my old Flymo trimmer. The extra 50 watts makes this trimmer feel significantly more powerful than my old one to the degree that wearing PPE is a must. Even a stray bit of strimmer line pinging off can feel like you’ve been shot with a BB gun and will leave a 5p-sized red, painful lump on uncovered legs. It’ll easily kick up small stones when you’re trimming around gravel beds and generates enough dust in dry conditions to make me appear as if I’ve served a shift down t’pit. I’m exaggerating about that but a shower is definitely in order after using this! The extra 2cm cutting diameter means that the trimmer will do a better job of edging further down the sides of the lawn where grass can grow outwards. I’m not finding the rather flimsy-feeling leaf protector to be much use though and just take a bit of extra care around tree trunks and overhanging plants instead.

I’ve had no issues whatsoever with the twine breaking during use. I’ve always found that the trick with auto-feed systems is to stop completely every 45 seconds or so and allow the trimmer to spool out more line, thereby preventing it from getting shorter and shorter then eventually becoming unclipped from the reel and having to be re-loaded. It’s certainly cut through everything I’ve asked it to – and then some!

I have about 300 linear meters of lawn edge to trim each week during the growing season and (now!) find that this trimmer is well up to the job. It’s a mixture of straight and curved edges against soil beds, patio and gravel, with a couple of tree trunks thrown in too. I’ve included some photos showing the type of edging I do and the results I’ve achieved. This is a good trimmer, especially for lawn edging. It’s more than powerful enough for general domestic use and with a bit of practice, gives excellent results. My only reservation is that plastic joint in the shaft and if that was sturdier and of a better design, the trimmer would be worthy of five stars.

Lightweight and powerful enough for medium domestic use. Particularly good for lawn edging.

This flymo strimmer is very lightweight I could use it with one hand, this is my first ever strimmer that I’ve bought so can’t compare to others but found it very easy to assemble and use without instructions. Very pleased with it. Also it’s not very big I’m 6ft 1 and the the height of the strimmer comes up to my waist.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this as a Birthday present to myselfI’m really going all out this year! LOL.
    Now to serious me
I trust Flymo although there were many different and some other good brands to choose from. The great thing about this item is that you can also trim/neaten lawn edges by simply pressing a release button and turning the head. I haven’t tried this element yet, but plan to soon. It was relatively easy to assemble but I decided to watch a YouTube Flymo video of how it was put together which was easier to follow,in my opinion. I’m not young now and I found it a little heavy to use on the first attempt, but I think that having arthritis doesn’t help. The support handle is a necessity and a great help and once I got the hang of how to use the strummer I found it less heavy. Please understand this item isn’t heavy, just that I struggle slightly. I’m very pleased I bought it and would definitely recommendwhat I need now is for Flymo to brand it with a man as part of the package who can do the mowing and strumming for me

Impressed by the solid construction, albeit that that comes with a slight penalty of weight. Edge trimmer is new to me but works really well- no more chewing edges with garden scissors. Line feed worked seamlessly and the thin looking cord seems to be more robust than my previous plastic coils. Replaces my previous much more expensive, smelly, noisy and fiddly petrol strimmer which seized under heavy usage. Only downside is having the power cord to trail around.

I wanted this particular grass trimmer due to it’s very easy to use edging feature – the big wheel. I have read numerous bad reviews of battery life and the system, although lithium, is quite old. However 3D printers are a game changer. You can get an adapter to make any machine run off another battery type. When my battery goes, I’ll get an einhell adapter and bingo! No need to throw cordless machines away just because the battery gives up!

Bought to replace my earlier flymo cordless grass trimmer after the battery died after about 11 years. This one is somewhat heavier but is more powerful and does a good job of edge trimming and strumming. As it is a bit heavier than my original trimmer it doesn’t steal quite so easily but I am now getting used to it. I only hope it lasts as long as my last one.
