My lawn is larger than average with some areas of quite steep slopes. I had been using a petrol mower for many years but this summer it gave up. After doing some research I found a like for like replacement motor mower would cost me around 450-500, well outside my budget. However I noticed the Flymo got several good reviews & priced at just over 100 I thought I would chance it.
And am I glad I did.
Flymo are known for being decent quality & this model is driven by a powerful electric motor. It tackles everything I ask it to, even when grass has got quite long.
It glides over the steep slopes with ease, whereas my motor mower kicked up & slid off line making cutting these areas very hard work.
Having a power cord is inconvenient for sure, but it comes with a very long lead attached & together with an extension lead I didn’t find it a problem at all. Just be careful not to cut through the cable, it happens!!
The only fault I have with this model is the grass box container needs a window so you can check how full it is. A minor quibble but one easily solved by having a transparent lid. Down to production costs I suppose.
Assembly is very easy, couple of fittings to attach the handle & away you go. I’ve seen some reviews which criticize the need to fit spacers to the blade attachment to adjust the cutting height. This is a very easy process, I don’t see that as a problem at all. Also the spanner required to do this comes supplied with the mower as well.
Having a largish lawn I opted for the 36cm width model, but for those with smaller areas the 30 or 33cms width will be more than adequate for the job.
I attached 2 of the 3 spacers provided to lower the blade. This gives a very good low cut, leaving a nice tidy finish to the lawn.
All in all a very good quality product at a very good price.
Lightweight & easy to use.
I highly recommned it.
As I already had a flymo that broke, Replacing with what I thought was same product. I was surprised that new version was a larger version of old machine. I’M very happy with new product . 3 spacers is too low a cut , so will change to 2 .
Some people like mowing the lawn but they are usually quickly recaptured. This mower makes the job easy with very little effort from the user. This mower tackles both long and short grass without problem. I have not had the Flymo very long but up till now it has performed with no problems whatsoever.
Perfect if your Lawn is flat, harder to use if your lawn is uneven. Its a great mower and unlike my last does a better job of picking up the grass cuttings. Its powerful too and worked effortlessly through my first cut this year. The collection tub is easy to remove and place back. Overall Im pleased with this replacement I would only advice if you struggle with heavier items this is not the easiest to manoeuvre.
Purchased for uneven surfaces and also grass collection for use elsewhere in the garden, works very well at both pf these tasks – motor is very powerful and does not struggle at all even with tall damp grass, at 1800 watts this has to be one of the most powerful machines you can buy, good value too.
Build quality of the main machine is generally good, only let down by the top flap locking mechanism which is a small plastic catch, almost certain this will break over time.
Assemble is a doddle, although I did have to run a drill through one of the handle attachment holes as not fully clear, overall five stars as it doess the job well.
I bought this to replace my old machine which finally gave up the ghost after about 15 years! The first thing I noticed were some of the issues in other reviews. The tightness of the nut that has to be unscrewed to fit the spacers is challenging to say the least. However a quick spray with WD40 solved the problem. It took me about 20 minutes to unpack and assemble the mower. Like some others I was surprised that the pins holding the handle to the body of the mower were plastic, time will tell if they work as well as the older metal ones! Of course the business and of this product is the cut which is very good. Personally I was surprised by how much of a difference the change from the old 33cm cut to the 36cm cut was. Mowing was much quicker and the bigger grass box really helps. Compared to my old machine this is a real improvement. Cord length is always an annoying issue, but as the extension used on my old machine still works it isn’t a problem. You might have to factor in the cost of the extension if this is a new machine. One last advantage of the new machine is how easy it is to wind the cable back onto the handle brackets. Good price, swift delivery, easy to get up and running, great cut – what’s not to like?
..to be honest l had my doubts as to whether a flymo would cope with our back garden.. as it’s extremely uneven ..to the point of meadow-like with big thick grass tufts all though it! .. & worse at the moment as it’s been so incredibly wet! ..but how wrong I was.. it coped with no problem at all.. my only issue would be that some of the grass shoots out all over ..maybe because of the sheer volume of grass it’s cutting ..& now we have a nicely mowed lawn it may settle down on the next cut.. l may also have let the grass box fill up too much before emptying it.. no doubt we’ll soon find out. I would definitely recommend this mower ..l was well impressed with it.
Big enough for a medium lawn (30×20 ft).
Easy to use, once you’ve fitted the handle.
Height adjustment tricky as nut holding blade is very tight to unscrew.
Would buy again.
Always opted for Flymo, as it seems to be the only one that cuts short enough. This model is by far the best, the pick-up is really good and it takes so little time to mow a medium size law
The machine is bulky, like most hover mowers, which is a consideration if storage space is an issue, but lightweight enough to hang on the wall of a shed. However, weightsaving may be at the expense of build quality. The machine’s predecessor did 15+ years of regular service, but I have little confidence that this one will last nearly half as long. The handle is held on by a pair of plastic pins – one of these popped out twice during an undemanding first cut, and being dark grey, could easily have been lost in the garden. It would be simple to replace the pins with metal bolts, but owners shouldn’t need to do that. If Flymo have cut costs on something as basic as these, how robust can we expect the motor to be?
Adjusting the cutting height is a very fiddly business, requiring removal of the blade using a flimsy plastic spanner provided to insert/remove spacers. Having gone to the trouble of fitting these, gardeners are likely to just leave the mower permanently on its shortest cutting height (the default longest setting will be too long for most gardens). With all three spacers fitted, I’m very pleased with the standard of the cut. With care, the steel blade should last a long time, but we are advised not to sharpen it. This looks like a ruse to force owners to buy replacement parts from Flymo – there seems to be no reason why the blade couldn’t be sharpened.
Not had a Flymo for years, been out of the country , they used to hover a lot more perhaps its not supposed anymore to but makes it a bit difficult to push for me, cuts ok blade height adjustment a bit time consuming as you have to remove the blade and fit or remove the space
Cuts really well. Not sure why Flymo always build with areas that unnecessarily collect grass. This replaced my excellent Flymo 380 with a 38cm blade and a 40ltr grass collection. Now with only 26ltrs it does mean more grass emptying.
I’ve read reviews so I was forewarned. I bought this mower to replace one I’ve had a long time. The new model works on the same principal. It is however much lighter and I’m thinking flimsy than the old model and I doubt it will last as long. Whereas previous
ly the collecting tray sat inside a frame the tray now forms part of the main structure. This reduces weight but makes it less rigid. It is ergonomically better and uses less plastic.
Putting it together was not easy and I do think that the instructions could be clearer.
I have however used the mower on my grass which was really too long and i’m pleased to say it did a good job overall. It took quite a bit of cleaning afterwards but so did the old one. I’m as pleased with it as I expected to be.
Nice product only used it once so far with no problem.usual fault with flymo of having too many nooks and crannies for grass to collect.but does a nice job
Brilliant delivery service and a brilliant product and very easy to assemble..
Does what it’s meant to do. I would write more but I finished my poo and I need to go now.
Great for my garden it has a bit of a slop good to use . TH
Good for small to small/medium lawns but would go for a petrol for large size lawns. Definitely recommend this one for more compact gardens.
only thing i dont like is the way the handle folds – but thats only a minor poi
I bought this as a replacement for the same model I purchased 18 or so years ago. The original was a great machine, and buying the same model was the obvious choice.
Sadly the new model is a pale comparison and I very much doubt it will deliver 18 years of service. The build quality is much poorer and it seems a cheap copy of the original.
That said, the new model is much much lighter and far easier to manoeuvre than the original.
It was much easier to use but was awkward to move from the shed to the lawn having to carry it. But was pleased with performance
Thank you for sending me the replacement flymo, I used it over the weekend – very happy with it.
Many thanks
The first mower to be delivered, had a manufacturer’s fault, could not assemble it, replacement sent within 24hrs, assembled in 20mins, and used straight away.
Only issue is part that holds handle at bottom first time I used it plastic holder kept coming out had to put in metal bol
This is my fifth flymo. I really like the brand. This is my first with a box. I thought I would have less work.i,el raking, but unfortunately I find the machine quite heavy in comparison and less easy to manoeuvre! Then again I’m not raking up the cut grass. Ideally I would prefer two machines. One with a box and one without. The box for the first cut and the other for every other!
I was eagerly awaiting this mower, it replaces my 27 years old Flymo hover mower. However despite the addition of rollers on the leading edge of the mower body, I still find it fairly difficult to manoeuvre. Having said that it’s a good mower, it has a powerful motor and three spacers are provided so that you can adjust the cutting height. Also there is provision for stowing the 10metre (32.8084ft) cable. Flymo claim it is fitted with a tough steel blade, but I’ve only used mine once and the blade is already badly damaged. I would guess that I will need two or even three blades every season, but still all things considered it is cheaper than hiring a gardener. I would recommend this mower, I like Flymo, and they are, as far as I can ascertain made in Britain. Flymo is owned by Husqvarna which is a Swedish company, but as far as I can ascertain Flymo hover mowers are made in Great Britain.
Decent length of cable but can’t conveniently fold the handle and use the cable storage feature at the same time.
Very easy to assembly, very easy to fold for storage and powerful motor thus doing a great job
Good mower lightweight an easy to set up dose a decent job .
Excellent mower once you have put it together but unhappy with the fold down system which is very difficult and not easy to follow the poor instructions.
Just waiting for the opportunity to use, weather needs to improve
I’ve always had a Flymo and the 330 is great for small to medium gardens. If you regularly mow your lawn in dry conditions it’s an easy job. Long and wet grass can make the job a lot harder. The 330 copes but in these conditions the grass box needs emptying every few minutes
I am female, 76 but find the lawnmower very manageable. Lightweight and easy to use. Very manoeuvrable.
I have it a 5 star but for me it was a struggle getting it over the lawn. It was a bit heavy for me but for most people is is beneficial.
This is a great product.
The instructions guide/manual definitely needs lots of improvement though. It was difficult to find support/guide on internet as well. Good thing we were able to figure out how to fold/store it at the end.
A little bit smaller than I’m used to but still works grea
Would be useful to have small top panel clear to see how full the box is
A very good mower for a small lawn and an old ma
Lawnmower is as expected, compact, easy to use, lightweight.Very pleased.
Great product. Would be nice if push handle could fold easily.
Consider its meant fly on a cushion of air, your definitely gey a work out pushing it. Cuts ok though.
Replaced an ancient one which had cut its last blade of grass. Found it ideal on rather uneven lawns.
Does the job, however the bodywork is not as sturdy as the model 280. Hopefully it will last.
Easy to use. Not sure how long it will last. Plastic is a tad flimsy!
This was a replacement for my Easi Glide 300V and is every bit as good (and cheaper). The 300V lasted over 7 years so hoping for sinilar for this one
It’s ok but definitely not as sturdy as the previous model – it does the job but doubt it will last as long.
A great lightweight grass mower that is easy to manipulate, easy to clean and folds into a small size for stowing.
Flymo great for small areas. Easy to use as I am a pensioner. Only comment would be the cord is too short so had to use extension lead which some people may not have to hand!
Lightweight and easy to manoeuvre but doesn’t collect the grass as well as my old Flymo and is very noisy for a little machine
I bought this lawn mover a few days ago, easy to put together and light to use…Very happy with this item do recommend
Does exactly what it says it will do, excellent mowe
Have had Flymo previously, so pleased with the product performance. However on this model the handle arrangement makes it difficult to carry from place to place. My previous model had a carry handle but this one doesn,t.
1700 watt motor cuts through thick grass with ease and collects a lot of grass quickly so you have to empty it quite often.
Leaves a nice cut lawn when finished.
quick delivery, good quality, easy to use, great all round.
Bought one of these for my daughter. We were so pleased we had another one for my other daughter. Really good. Lightweight quality mower.
Does what it should do with ease and went together very very easily.
