Not reference monitors, they clearly boost the bass. However this is fine for me 🙂
Much like KEF these speakers use a coaxial driver, I went with them for their price and size and I was not disappointed. While they do not have the most controlled treble response, and their bass is a little lacking a bit of EQ will help. I also suggest some base padding as they are not the most dampened speakers around.
If you’re looking for a step up definitely go with the iLoud Micro
Ich habe mir einen preiswerten Monitor gesucht. Habe viele Rezensionen und Tests angeschaut und gelesen. Habe mich dann fr JBL 1 104 entschieden. Und, ich war positiv berrascht, wie gut der Klang ist. Fr low budget Monitor ist es sehr gut. Vor allen Klarheit bei Mitteltnen. Kann allen Hobby Musikern nur empfehlen. Gute Referenz Ergnzung zu den Kopfhrern.

These speakers sounds incredibly excellent for playbacks, for listening to an already processed music. But lots of mid frequencies when using as monitors for music production. I almost return it because I need monitors but because it sounds great as speakers, I kept it and just ordered a different monitor speake
Premetto che sono un amante delle yamaha msp, ho la serie 5 e la serie 3…cercavo una soluzione “portatile” compatta e performante e dopo decine di audio test online le ho preferite alle iloud micro (sembravano troppo bassose) e ne sono contento: paragonate fianco a fianco con le yamaha msp3 sembrano sorelle nella timbrica e nella copertura delle frequenze…ovviamente in potenza non reggono il confronto, ma sono pi che sufficienti per ascoltare musica in casa o come monitor da scrivania! Davvero soddisfatto e assolutamente consigliate…se non siete amanti delle dinamiche bassose tipo krk…

Definitely purpose made for home studio/monitor speakers. They are not designed to fill a room with sound, but are absolutely perfect for monitor use. The sound is super accurate and detailed. If you are using them to listen to music (as I am), you will need to equalize them to your taste, since they have a perfect, flat response — as monitor speakers should have.
I didnt want to spend a ton of cash on studio monitors for when I compose music to listen back to in ordinary environment. I watched/read tons of comparisons between the JBL and the ILoud Micro and after listening to a few samples decided that the extra (almost double) cost just didn’t warrant it. So I ended up getting the JBL and man am I pleased with the result these little beauties give – honestly for the price I didn’t expect a whole lot but as long as it let me listen to playback and general music then I would be happy – well they far far exceeded my expectations and can highly recommend them. If you have a small room and just need decent playback better than PC speakers then these will truly deliver – If you have a large room and need true Monitor speakers then probably the ILoud IN would be worth the cost. Great value I think the JBL are.
Needed a little bit of an equalizer to balance the sound properly.
My biggest complaint is the startup sound that cannot be disabled.
The volume doesn’t need to be up very loud to sound loud. These are powerful speakers. I hear every detail of every song or video, and on either side of my computer, these provide a nice surround sound experience.
I’m docking one star for occasional delayed activation when on. When the speakers are asleep (but not turned off), it can take about 5 seconds after I start a song or video to hear any sound.

Sent without speaker wire to connect the two speakers. That was pretty annoying. That aside, they are great – small profile – computer speakers. Really punchy. Much better than a lit of the other desktop speakers. Choose these over the tiny ones every time.
ITS JBL.. No doubt the best .. I am impressed with the sound quality.

Si los pones con cable directo al pc, cuando se ponen en standby y quieres volver a utilizarlos tardan alrededor de 5-8 seg en volver a dar el audio a menos que le des al boton que tiene, esto acaba siendo algo molesto.
Sin embargo no sucede si lo tienes con bluetooth, cuando esta en standby, al volver a utilizarlos solo tarda 1 seg.
Con bluetooth hay un ligero delay con el audio de menos de 1 seg, asi que si sueles hacer edicion de video eso va fatal.

We wanted compact PC desk speakers that could play music to a high quality without costing a fortune. The JBLs really deliver that. They’re very solidly built and completely feel like an investment that’ll last a decade or more.
The music quality is great: strong, confident and detailed. There’s plenty of strength for an office room, bedroom or kitchen and it just depends how big your living room is as to what you’d get. That’s fine – they have a wattage and they can do what that grants them. Very impressed. They’ve been doing great for games, too.
One speaker is the master, containing the amplifier and PSU, and the other is a slave. The linking cable is nicely long enough to get good desk placement. It would be easy to extend if you need more.
The only small concern I had was on their stability. The flat bottom area is not terribly large so, in my head, they feel like one knock and they’ll be over. However, that’s really just in my head as two sets have been on desks here for months and we’ve not had one wobble, despite desk knocks. So there’s no proof to go with what’s just a feeling, so don’t be swayed by that – they haven’t. And they’re reassuringly heavy so they have a solid hold on their ground.
After a month or so’s trial of a first set, I was very pleased to order a second set for another desk. Great buy.
It has great sound for the price paid. I love the BT option. It has nice design and relatively compact in comparison to other speakers of this class.
I use it as home studio speakers for my electric piano and microphone connected along with a laptop. The speakers are perfect for a small room.

These speakers let you mix up to 3 hard wired sources with Bluetooth so they can service up to four sources at once with no switching required. It’s something other manufactures should be doing but few are.
JBL is a Harman company and they have research and development resources that completely shame any competing Chinese company and arguably most American or European speaker manufactures. How many desktop sized speakers for under two hundred bucks have KEF style concentric tweeters with a wave guide shaped woofer? None that I know of.
The build quality is excellent and there’s no laser bright power LED to annoy you. The only thing that’s a bit odd is the power switch is on the back.
As nearfield monitors these sound amazingly good for the price. They won’t shake the room but are nicely balanced. The Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity is easy, reliable, long range, and low latency. The build quality is excellent. These speakers are a perfect example of how North American engineering shames all the Chinese designed junk on the market at a still very reasonable price.
great sound for general use, i dont think you can expect the low frequencies to represent very accurately in the case of mixing unless you have a room specifically designed for them . but good enough in a pinch (id use headphones first)
A ver, si eres una persona que quiere escuchar msica envolvente y conseguir un buen altavoz: perfecto. Si eres un amante del sonido no busques otra marca que unos KRK. Te hablo desde mi experiencia profesional con sonido. Por otro lado el altavoz pesa poco y vino con la rueda del volumen despegada, rota. No los devolv porque se pega un poco y ya est. No soy pijotero para determinadas cosas y me ahorra tiempo.
For the price, it’s hard to beat. They sound good as expected from JBL. The bass could be better but I think they only drop to 60-70hz? So obviously some of the lowend image is missing. Which it isn’t so bad considering I use these for my TV and Gaming and that I wouldn’t want the lowend vibrating all the walls and waking up my roomies at 3am anyway. The lowend, mids and high are all clear. The lowend isn’t muddy like most speakers in that proce range. They are pretty and small so they fit well on my TV furniture and in my living room. If you want that good vibrating sub feeling, I would recommend to pair it with a quality sub.
Die Lautsprecher sehen sehr gut aus, auch und gerade in wei. Sehr leicht mit der Soundkarte des Computers zu verbinden. Alles was man dazu bentigt ist in der Packung dabei. Der Klang ist wirklich Spitze, sogar mit ein bisschen Bhne in die Tiefe. Erstaunlich! Stimmen sehr klar und Instrumente gut platziert. Hrt sich an wie eine Bewertung zu Highend-Lautsprechern… Ich bin Highender seit fast 50 Jahren und erstaunt, was heute im PC-Klangbereich mglich ist. Wer keine ohrenbetubenden Bassorgien will, kann diese JBL unbesorgt kaufen: Empfehlung!

Ich habe die Lautsprecher jetzt seit 6 Wochen im Einsatz – Nahfeld/Schreibtisch zum Musikhren und fr die tglichen Videokonferenzen. Und ich kann die teils negativen Kritiken nicht nachvollziehen.
Ja – der Einschaltton muss nicht sein (ist bei allen JBL Bluetooth Gerten..).
Verarbeitung: Top – sehr fertig – Design gefllt mir gut, besser als die blichen Ksten.
Anschlsse: alles da, was man braucht – BT top
Bedienung: simpel – gut ist auch der Lautstrke-Regler, ber den man schnell die Lautstrke justieren kann
Klang: fr den Einsatz auf dem Schreibtisch perfekt. Fr kleine Rume sicherlich auch gut. Wenn man die Boxen wandnah aufstellt, wird auch der Bass strker.
Fazit: Top zufrieden – Klare Empfehlung

One note for those that will likely have the same problem: they are automatically in “standby mode” which means they shut off after being inactive for like 19 minutes. The manual pdf on this listing page explained though how to easily override the standby mode. Other than that I love them.
It just seemed silly to have this standby mode which doesn’t re-engage the speakers until you go to play music or something and then it’s only after a handful of seconds. As speakers sold as “computer speakers”, surely they need to be on (at least for me) all the time because I need to hear alerts and other sounds from working on my computer.

The cable connection between the 2 units feels a little doggy, it’s basically just insulated wires, and you have to stick the ends, which is exposed metal wire into a hole on the unit and clamp it. This is not unusual for monitors or older speakers, but a little unexpected for a $100 JBL. Maybe a good indication that they spent the money towards the sounds like an old school monitor and you’re not paying for the gimmicks (Bluetooth).

These are brilliant reference speakers for a computer, and having various inputs adds to their versatility. Have two pairs of these in different rooms and they sound great in both. For mastering, heard things that previously hadnt on other speakers, lovely rich sound too

Esteticamente belli e con un design alternativo, occupano meno spazio. Io li ho comprati in Amazon-usati (erano valutati in ottime condizioni) realizzando un risparmio del 60% ; l’unico difetto rappresentato dalla manopolina del volume non originale. Li ho utilizzate per migliorare l’audio del pc desktop e devo dire che suonano molto bene: suono brillante con buona resa di alti , medi e bassi. Le ho anche equipaggiate di un DAC economico per migliorare ulteriormente i dettagli, ma anche da soli sono ottimi. Molto soddisfatto.

The JBL Professional speakers for your computer are an excellent choice. The sound quality is first-rate.
Works great for desktop setup. Sound quality is good and clear. Bass is fine but missing subwoofer is obvious. Good set of computer speaker for clean and clear sound.

Decently flat response, don’t expect to hear anything below 70hz, it’s almost nill. There’s a bump from around 150hz-220hz and a roll off from 6k-7k.
I feel these are great for referencing, they are quite flat for the price you’re paying and also give you a rough idea of how your work will sound on commerical speakers.
Overall, I can say that these are the best reference monitors pairs under Rs.15k.
I am using these as computer speakers, and I really love them. These totally blow away traditional computer speakers. At low levels their sound is full-bodied, crisp, and high fidelity. But you can fill a room with excellent undistorted sound.
These ugly giant-plasticky-pill-shaped globs aren’t pretty, but they ARE utilitarian, small, and for my uses, great. Smaller footprint and less intrusive than the Edifier powered speaker I have at home in the living room, and slightly better sounding; but bigger than my old Audioengine A2’s in my other office, with equivalent sound and a much better price.
They can’t touch Audioengine A5’s, but they don’t cost like them either. Not even close.
All that gobbledegook said: these are a good fit for me, with caveats. There’s no bass, of course, but the rest of the sound is fairly balanced and non-fatiguing.
The thing I like best is they do that JBL thing: you feed them more volume, they just eat. They’ll clip a bit if I push too hard, but that’s normal: up to the point that they clip, they just get louder and louder. No big variances in quality of sound, they don’t get brassy or muddy, you just get more volume. That’s the JBL thing.
That also means the near-field listening (where I spend most of my time with these) is similar to across-the-room listening, and with a sub it seems to me they’d be easily room-filling…a smaller room, but still.
I got them on sale for $79. I’d pay a little more, I suppose, but the format, build, utility of them mean I recommend them…if you don’t need bass.
Despite its markting claims and stellar reviews, these are not studio monitors. If you want a pair of computer speakers with great form and function to go with sound that makes watching youtube more enjoyable, it will be hard to better these. These are actually better than the grossly overrated lower-end Audioengine models. Here are some tips: Do not try to raise the speakers to ear-level. They are meant to be listened to vertically off-axis. Frequencies do flatten out as your ears align higher. It’s so nice to see speakers purposely built for real world situations. The coaxial drivers work wonders for nearfield settings. No noise, no buzz. Clean, forward sound without deep bass. Perfect for your lossy files and even lossier Youtube sound.
When mixing and mastering a recording project, It is always important that the final mix sounds great at all spl levels. These speakers will sound bad if you overdrive them, but they are perfect as a reference at lower levels with no subs. Also keep in mind that these are designed to be at desk hieght and near feild. You will get more bass response if you have a wall about 6 to 12 inches behind the speaker. All in all the JBL 1 series 104 sound great. I like the combination of 3 different input connections.
I have an Apple Homepod and AKG K7XX headphones. These sound better than the Homepod (while being more versatile) and sound as good as the AKG headphones (which were $350).
Use them in my basement home studio…. as a hobbyist home producer, they’re amazing! Big upgrade from mixing with Logitech desktop speakers and IEM’s 😉
A pro might need something better, but for anyone in a similar boat as me, they’re amazing. Very clear, very articulate, good representation of your actual mix.
These are my bedroom speakers- they will work well for most apartment living rooms or bedrooms. The non bluetooth models are better value. Amazing sound quality- accurate, loud, clear and better than any speaker at this price.

Me gustaron mucho para slo reproducir msica, no me producen fatiga auditiva, los puedo escuchar por horas, tienen la potencia suficiente para lugares pequeos y su tamao y forma son ideales para escritorios. Brindan un sonido rico, pueden ser una muy grata compra para cualquiera que ame escuchar la msica como la gente. Las frecuencias bajas se perciben llenitas y profundas, los bajos (instrumento) se escuchan sorprendentemente detallados, las frecuencias altas son bastante ntidas y el plano estreo es muy definido. En cuanto pueda comprar otros. Ya como monitores para grabacion pues me parecen perfectos en relacin a su precio, aunque sin duda prefiero los Eris 4.5 de presonus aunque tienden a ser mas “parcos” en las frecuencias bajas.
These monitors are just perfect for what I need – I was reading about new monitor technology online and this model kept being singled out for praise so I decided to replace the 7 year old Rokit 5s I had (which were already used) with these. I have a small apartment studio so I can’t crank the tunes super loud for 10 hours a day like you would in a real sound studio so these smaller detailed monitors are perfect for my needs as they don’t need to be pushed loud to do their job. Really detailed sound from top to bottom, now I feel like if I get new monitors they need to be above $500 at least because these ones are better than anything I could get for less. Not recommended for casual application – get hi fi bookshelf or computer speakers not these which are for audio editing/monitoring tasks and reference use.
perfect for mini home studio if you are on a budget or if you want to add small monitors to your setup. You have enough low for mixing, good mids (but not enough clear to say, thats it I don’t need better speakers later), High are there, wich is rare for that cost. Looks good, plenty of way to plugg them, front volume knobe, power in the back. Maybe I would have add Bass and treble knobe to calibrate them.

To start this review off I must say that I used to produce music on small generic computer speakers and it worked decent for a little bit, but when there was any bass the cheap speakers would blow out, but then I Bought these and set them up and let me just tell you, they made a world of difference, if you produce a lot of bass-heavy music you might want to pair them with a sub, but for what I use them for it’s not really needed right now, if your thinking about upping your quality of life in your music, just buy them they really make a difference.
I think these are an incredible value for the price. The issue with them is that I feel they need to be listened to on axis and the design of the enclosure makes it tough to do so without some desktop speaker stands. I bought some 9″ stands and they bring the coaxial speakers with a few degrees on my ears while at my desk. For non-critical listening, I’m sure they’d be fine 30 degrees below ear level, but the soundstage just disappears. Don’t get me wrong, these are not Genelecs, but they do a decent job of providing a punchy, clear and loud sound for video editing, home and small studio production, etc.. Using these through a Focusrite Scarlett.
These are fine for what they are , compact with a decent sound , I’m using them for my home alone piano & synths & the sound is fine for a small room .
I’m not expecting to hold parties with these , they are just for small space , decent sound & they do that .

I didn’t know what to expect from these. But these are a great alternative when can’t get nothing bigger or higher. The sound is highly accurate. Could be louder but even at low volume it performs pretty well. The price your paying for these is great value. Don’t think anyone would be disappointed in these although these are my first studio monitors. To my ears they capture the details of the song clearly the bass is there and punchy where the kids aren’t lacking no where at all the highs could be a little better but nothing to complain about. I will be using these to reference my mixes not necessarily mix so I needed something flat and these are pretty much all I need for the time being huge fan of the sound of anyone isn’t purchasing these in that $200 range for a pair of studio monitors look else where and aim higher for better because these will do justice. I suggest listening to them for awhile to get a feel of what they sound like.
For $79 these are a great deal. People are commenting on lack of low-end. These are reference speakers with the intent to be true to the original recording EQ. These work very well as intended for near range. Quality is as expected from JCL. They would not put their name on a bad product. JBL could have charged more for these. Maybe the low price distracted buyers. Glad to see that they are offering affordable products for folks (kids) who have limited budget.

For you bass heads out there – avoid. Everyone else – rejoice! This is, without a doubt, the best budget-level piece of audio equipment you can put on your desk. Accurate, sleek and functional. Not to imply There’s NO bass – there’s just “normal” bass – much less boosted than what “consumer” equipment presents in sound signature. But hey – at least you get to hear your music closer to what the artist intended!
There’s no integrated cable anywhere like you’d find on “pc” or other bullshit consumer speakers at twice the price. All the connections are standard and professional, even including standard power cables for the unpowered “left” monitor, andddd – balanced inputs!!! How cool is that?!
The only annoyance in my eyes is the fact that when they are left idle for a while they take a few seconds to wake up when they pick up an input – and they won’t wake up if the input is too weak. Other than that… You’d be hard pressed to find anything not to like about them.
The 104 series are great for use as a real world reference as a secondary pair of monitors for your studio. They are also good to use as a monitors for bedroom deejays. Just connect them to the booth out of your mixer or controller or your master output if your mixer or controller doesn’t have a booth output. I even have a pair connected to my tv. I just recently tried to connect via Bluetooth but for whatever reason It will not connect. Not really a deal breaker for me because that was not my intended use them. They are a good value. You really can’t go wrong with JBL. I use the 308’s as my main studio monitors
Monitores de estudio coaxiales con un sonido un tanto particular. Al escucharlos se aprecia que realmente no son neutros, tienen los medios algo manipulados de una forma un poco extraa y inflados los graves. Nada exagerado pero desde luego neutros puros no son. Pese a todo, ofrecen un sonido con excelente separacin, limpio, claro y detalladsimo sin llegar a ser brillantes, los veo perfectos para trabajar sabiendo que no hay que compensar el sonido algo inflado por abajo que ofrecen. Son muy compactos y slidos, ideales para viaje de trabajo y los acabados magnficos a todos los niveles. Buen plstico ABS, potenciometro firme y hembras de calidad.
Para escuchar msica exclusivamente o para uso multimedia la verdad es que no los recomiendo en absoluto, tienen un sonido demasiado detallado que fatiga rpido y que no proporciona una escucha natural como ocurre con otros monitores neutros incluso de la misma marca.
Let me begin by saying I like the JBL brand. I have a pair of 3 Series 306P Mk II monitors from JBL that are great, and haven’t given me any problems. Those speakers and these, the 1 Series 104, are pretty affordable. Unfortunately, the 104s had some issues.
When I first hooked these lil’ guys up to my stereo, and turned on some music, I was impressed right away. Contrary to what numerous reviews have said, there definitely was bass response. I could hear low notes and basslines. The problem for me isn’t a lack of bass. It’s distortion in the extension monitor (the passive one, which for me is the left speaker). Classic electronic distortion: buzz and a bit of mid-range squawk whenever bass notes played. At first it seemed to happen only with bass sounds, but I eventually began hearing that distortion with any audio. I should note that I never blasted any music through the speakers: the volume knob never went beyond the 12 o’ clock (50%) position, and I always took care to turn down the sound source’s volume.
Is the left speaker malfunctioning, or is the distortion simply a design flaw present in all units? The latter seems doubtful: if that were the case, wouldn’t every purchaser of the 104’s experience this issue?
I hope to get a replacement that is distortion-free. The sound quality from the master speaker is clean and the frequency range is impressive.

Suenan muy muy bien siempre y cuando no se les exija demasiado, no estn pensados para darle caa. A partir de cierto volumen el sonido que ofrecen no es tan ntido y se empiezan a apreciar sus carencias: ausencia de graves y brillos en agudos.
Uso 100% de escritorio sin mayores pretensiones, sonido plano; con ellos podrs escuchar msica a un nivel aceptable en tu habitacin y te despreocupas de molestar a los vecinos. Si quieres sentirte en tu habitacin como en un festival o llenar espacios relativamente amplios estes no son tus monitores.
La calidad de construccin es buena, diseo minimalista y estilizado. Lucen en cualquier parte y no ocupan demasiado.
Para m, lo peor de estos monitores es el sonido que hacen al encenderlos, es lamentable viniendo de una marca que cuida tanto los detalles… es el mtico sonido de los altavoces JBL Bluetooth, pero en este caso suena algo distorsionado y a un volumen bastante molesto, sobretodo si los enciendes de noche. Da igual que los pongas al mnimo, el sonido de encendido no vara y tampoco hay posibilidad de desprogramar esa opcin.
La solucin es relativamente fcil si los usas regularmente: los altavoces traen programado un modo de “bajo consumo”, si pasan 20 min y no reciben seal de audio, entran en modo reposo, puedes dejarlos en este modo y cuando reciban seal automaticamente se encienden sin el dichoso ruido de inicio.
Por lo dems, bien. Los recomiendo si buscas algo de calidad para tu escritorio.
La versin Bluetooth es algo cara. Los normales estn muy bien de precio por lo que ofrecen.
I ordered these to be a portable option for my setup. For $120, they sound fantastic. They can be a little boomy in the low end if you have the ports too close to a wall. I see people asking which one is left and right. If you connect via the diagram, the powered one is right. But, you can make either one left or right as it has separate left and right inputs. Good build quality, metal grills, good sound, great value.
I am really impressed with the crisp audio output of these speakers. Sound is very detailed and clean. only con that I can think of is lack of bass punch. You might need to add another woofer with your sound system to get that extra bass. But as a regular user I am quite OK with the bass output.

Meine aus dem Internet herunter geladene Klassik-Musik (24/96) kann ich mit den JBL 104 an einer externen Soundkarte gut vorhren und qualitativ bewerten.
Gerade chorische Geigen, z.B. in Streicherkonzerten, verraten etwas ber die Durchsichtigkeit und Klaviermusik etwas ber Impulsfestigkeit.
Lngeres Hren fhrt bei mir nicht zu einer Ermdung, die ich bei den Edifier 1280 empfand. Die tiefen Register sind naturgegeben begrenzt, trotzdem beachtlich.
Die Anlaufphase nach lngerer Pause (30 min) ist kurz. Bei weniger langen Pausen (3 min) startet die Wiedergabe sofort (das ist nicht explizit gemessen, sondern geschtzt und ein sehr gutes Verhalten im Vergleich zu einer anderen Box (Soundbar).
Die Verarbeitung ist gut, das Design empfinde ich als gelungen.
Negativ:
Ohne Signal ist manchmal ein leichtes und kurzes Sirren zu hren, das mich aber weiter nicht strt.
Fazit:
Diese JBL wrde ich wieder kaufen, kann sie also uneingeschrnkt empfehlen.
Great set of speakers and look really good on my office desk.
Ive always liked JBL and these did not dissapoint.
Only slight grumble is that the volume coudl have been a bit loude
