Supplied with a 1/4" collet Nov 2021
I purchased this Makita trim router with 4 bases November 2021 and I can confirm that it was supplied from Amazon with a 1/4 inch collet (and not the 6mm version that other reviewers mention).
I have a very large selection of 1/4 inch shaft router bits and just a few of them are a little tight in this collet but they all do fit. Most are absolutely fine.
Only used a few times now, but a great tool.
I had the opposite problem from many of the reviewers. Instead of the supplied collet being too small, it seems slightly too big. Not even noticeable by eye, but despite tightening as much as i felt reasonable, the 1/4 router bit would keep slipping. Kept wondering why the depth of cut was changing until i noticed, thankfully before it dropped fully out.
I had already ordered a 1/4 collet after reading the reviews before purchase, so i inserted that one and have had no problems.
The collet was from amazon also, Makita 763637-1 Collet Cone 1/4″ .
easy to use
I have now used this hanging (I’ve lost count ) so many doors and found it so useful no more transformers or leads as a carpenter i use this with the trend hing jig
This is simply a fantastic router.
I was a little worried that this wouldn’t have the power for a lovely smooth finish, but I was completely wrong.
It’s a little marvel. As good as any corded palm router, and not having a mains cable is so handy for routing in situ.
I treated myself to the full boxed set. I have only used the plunge accessory base so far, but I’m sure I will use the others at some stage.
The finish is gorgeous, the aluminium body is as smooth as you could hope for. The adjustment lever is easy to open but rock solid when closed.
The LED’s work well and give great visibility.
It has a variable speed wheel. I tend to use it just backed off the top speed, and it flies through all woods.
Don’t spoil the party by using cheap awful bits.
I only use Trend black range and together they make a beautiful winning combination.
I’ve owned it for over a year and a half now and I still think it’s one of the best tools I own.
Overall, this is a fantastic router that can easily replace any handheld corded router.
Highly recommended.
I hope you found this review helpful.
A great piece of kit well worth the money!
Very easy to use, I bought all the accessories to enable different angles of use etc. Very light, very portable, small. Great for use with Makita batteries, although is heavier the higher the amp of battery you use e.g. 3Amp should be lighter than 5Amp but still easy enough to use one handed with care!
Everything you could possibly need in a trim route
With this kit you get all you could possibly need from a small trim router. Battery and charger are extra but was not a problem for me. The quality of the included items is amazing. As a DIYer I never thought I would own a Makita but this kit was better value than the cheaper brands and I can see why people like them so much. The soft start and battery lock features are excellent and the dust collection for the fixed base unit was the best of any tool I own. Dust escapes the plunge router base nozzle a bit but that is much harder to collect anyway, and improving my vacuum cleaner would probably help.
Al the parts fit together so well and the tool is well balanced in use
There is even room for the battery & charger in the supplied case.
