Super all rounder! Having a drill that has three functions of drilling, hammer drilling and chiselling in one is a winner to anyone’s tool chest especially with the quality of Makita!

Amazing drill best I’ve ever had for masonry. The only down side is the drill bits I had I could not use so has to buy new sds plus drill bits. But worth the pain as i can drill through brick and cement like through butter.

Purchased to do the heavier duty masonary work which I was using my battery combo drill to do.
Should have bought 1 years ago!! Makes light work of everything I need to do. I would be stood there for ages with my combo drill trying to drill holes in brick – and not doing my drill any favours what do ever!
This thing just flies through anything I’ve put in front of it.
Usual Makita quality with a nice sturdy case too. Bought the Makita SDS drill bit pack too.
    Will last for years

Excellent drill as good as the bosch gbh2-26
Works well with diamond core bits
Good torque limiter to save your wrists
Sds + …not a chuck… its in the description…Read it numpties, buy an sds+ chuck ..duh
Not supplied with drill bits …why would it ?
Makita produce well made bullet proof kit , own lxt cordless too, buy them too
Other inferior products are also available

bought because of the light weight, number of hits per minute and most importantly the Joules of the hitting. compared to old hammer drill which took 10 mins to get 1 cm into old concreate flooring slab, this took about 15 secs to drill the 25 mm I needed.
    Very pleased with it 🙂
Edit after a year – its dam good, mine came with no drills but its got some real power and very happy with i

Excellent quality as with all Makita equipment. Best choice to drill in any type of wall. I got a cordless combo drill and I only use this one for drilling in walls; it goes through anything like butter (I went through 24cm cavity wall from outside with no effort, hammer drill performance is very good).
Chisel function is pretty nice and powerful (for this size).
It’s a heavy tool (compared with cordless ones) but a beast and makes the job very easy.

I needed a drill to cut through a concrete floor. I needed to create a drainage channel along the side of my house. I was worried about which drill to buy. Cordless or corded? Was it big enough? Could it cope with a concrete floor.
I shouldn’t have worried. With the correct chisel attachments this drill sliced into the floor like it wasn’t even there. Love it and would highly recommend.

Classic Makita quality.. high feedback from the drill, I think the higher model reduces the jumpy/feedback when in use.

For the money I don’t think you can buy better quality

I was worried this would be too low powered for breaking poorly laid concrete below slabs I was resetting, as a lot of the cheaper brands are higher powered. But it’s great, went through it like butter. I’d spent a day previously trying by hand and this did more in 5 minutes! Feels well made, decent length cable, variable speed trigger, decent case. Happy I paid a bit more for a good brand. Comes with zero drill bits or breaker accessories, but I already had those.

Pleasantly surprised. Coming from using an 18v cordless drill on masonry to this monster it was like night and day. A job that would have taken me ages (10mm masonry holes ) with the cordless took no word of a lie 5 seconds per 10cm hole with this drill. Paired it up with sds extreme 2 de walt bits which were also faultless. Scary how efficient it is

I have used this drill for household use, putting up shelves,tv bracket, other wall units and i must say it is by far the best drill i have ever had it makes light work of drilling holes. Comes with the added bonus of a storage case. Great value for money.

Don’t like these star categories. They’re pointless for reviews. A hammer drill of this quality will not be light weight!

The Makita hammer drill is brilliant! Like a hot knife through butter when drilling . I had one before but gave it away as means of payment for some services a friend provided for me when I went overseas. Coming back I quickly missed it so got this one, together with the sds drill set. Loving it!

Is quite heavy if using at head height, but well balanced and still lighter than many of its rivals. Have only used it a few times so far but goes through most types of brick fairly well. Still had problems getting a tidy hole through a concrete window lintel. However tried with a more powerful industrial SDSdrill and still had problems so I think the makita is adequate for most DIY projects.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI am building my DIY skills/experience and every now and then I am finding that I need a new tool to add to my list. I had a Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 Cordless Lithium-Ion Hammer Drill Driver (with 1 x 18 V Battery, 1.5 Ah) which used and still one of my favourite tools of all times! until I needed to install a home CCTV system and realized that its not enough to dig through masonry external walls..etc After watching few youtube videos and a small research I ran across SDS drills and man oh man what a great tool! Definitely made my life easier with setting up the CCTV system and for future DIY work involving masonry/brick drilling..etc. I subsequently bought drill bits sets (including long drill bits and chisel bits) which are really great and useful in various jobs

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIf you’ve never used a rotary hammer drill before, you are in for a treat!
Feels a similar weight to a conventional hammer drill but with so much greater force. I blunted a standard drill bit on a normal hammer drill before switching to this, 2 seconds later the hole was the required depth and width with minimal effort – like a hot knife through butter.

Cord is a really good length

Really is a game changer if drilling into solid walls a lot.

I have used a Bosch alternative before, but prefer the more classic set-up and grips.

Easy to use and change drill bits – would recommend getting some grease for the first few used as a minimum though.

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersLove this thing! I picked it up for a house renovation which it completed happily and is still going strong. I deliberately went wired as I think SDS needs that extra umph that you can’t get without spending mega bucks on a cordless. The cord, however, is really long and sturdy which is handy when working on site.

I’d argue it’s a little overkill for day to day DIY use (I actually purchased a Makita cordless after). but for anything more it’s absolutely fantastic. Used for drilling LOTS of big holes into brick and blockwork, also used with chisels and scutch combs for removing tiles, bits of walls, chasing out, demolishing bathrooms/kitchens etc etc. Just a super versatile bit of kit.

The fact it’s also an absolute bargain, has a torque limiter (I believe – please double check!) and has a hammer only mode make this a superb buy for somebody who needs to do ‘proper’ work but doesn’t need to to all-in at professional prices.

Excellent drill, managed to split 300mm of fairly strong concrete very easily. The chuck the best feature, clicking in the bits works very well and they do not work loose the way my twist chuck did. Weight is fine and metal depth guide is better than plastic ones I have seen. Having controls on both sides is handy. The hammer only option with chisel bits is really useful when breaking out. It didn’t come with bits but I got the box of assorted Makita bits which has just the right mix for me. Why didn’t I get this sooner!

This thing packs a punch, I had a 25 hammer drill from Black and Decker, and this blows it out of the water. for ages I was trying to install a hook in my ceiling and not having much luck as the ceiling in my house was solid as hell. I bought this and it glided right through. Every job I’ve been on I normally try my smaller drill just for mobility but when that won’t cut it, this boy comes out and so far, drill vs surface, has never been defeated.

Comes with a nice range of SDS bits too and a great case.

The one small downside is it sometimes a little too easy to accidentally lock the drill trigger due to the location and sensitivity of the lock button so the drill keeps rotating, but once you get used to it you can adjust your hand position slightly

Fabulous stuff, really goes through masonry like a hot knife through butter. Previously had a cheaper hammer drill with some good quality bits, but this is on another level. Hardly any pressure needed at all, just let the bit do the work at a low to medium speed and all is well! Mine didn’t ship with any bits to go with the drill, however it doesn’t say that it will in the description, therefore I think it is safe to assume that all units shipped now do not come with the set of drill bits some others mentioned previously.

  66. NicholaBaylor says:

     United Kingdom

Build quality excellent. E.g. the adjustable handle is held by a steel band which is tightened (rather than a simpler plastic clamping mechanism), e.g. the depth stop bar is steel, not plastic. Cable is good quality rubberised, very flexible, and 3+ metres long. Small things which typically indicate the designer cares about their product.
The case holds the drill and room for my “standard drill” chuck adapter and a set of small (160mm) drills, plus you can fit 300mm drill laying loose, but not quite enough room for the Makita 17 pc pouch set.
Now all I have to do is use it to drill some holes!

A revelation. I had struggled with a normal hammer drill and various masonry bits to make much of an impression on the concrete beams of a French apartment. A great piece of kit and well worth the money if you are drilling into concrete or masonry.

Great tool, light and easy to operate. Powerful and good value for money. However, I find the position and the sensitivity of the lock button on the handle to be a drawback – when working in gloves the drill almost always goes into lock mode, which makes it less convenient when doing masonry work, not to mention a safety hazard if you’re not used to this feature.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersWhat a beast! Narrowed it down to this and the Hitachi (which I have used and is also top drawer) – went for this as it was in the sale and the fact that it came with a good selection of very decent bits. Its an 800W drill but blows my old one (850W) out of the water. Care is needed – it is extremely powerful. Good length mains cord, its reassuringly heavy (not too heavy) and feels well balanced. The front handle adjustment is a breeze, and with the extra bits and a very nice case it is great value for money – even at RRP. Don’t forget to register it on Makita website for a 3 year warranty.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI’m a plumber and I use Makita power tools all the time. My old HR2400 drill finally started having bad clutch slip after 15 years of heavy use last week and I’ve now replaced it with the HR2630. I expect a similar lifespan for this one, and it came with the promised drill and bit set from Amazon.

Given the number of other reviews on here, it’s pointless me adding another, but all I would say if you buy one is don’t forget to go onto the Makita UK site and register it (and the same goes for any Makita tools you buy) in order to get their three year guarantee.

This has the added benefit of recording its serial number with your details, so if it’s pinched by some scum sucker and then recovered, it will be traceable back to you.

Incidentally, you might find you can buy it cheaper on eBay, but beware, as there are a lot of sellers flogging non-UK Makita kit on there (I made the mistake of buying a cordless angle grinder, only to find it was from some obscure Arabian market) and you get absolutely no guarantee at all from Makita UK with non-UK kit. Stick to Amazon themselves and you’ll be okay.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersFantastic machine.

I bought it to help with demolition of a conservatory and was a bit worried whether it would have the guts to get the job done (I questioned myself about that too to be honest). I needn’t have worried. It ate through the mortar holding the bricks in place like it wasn’t there, making taking the walls apart really easy. Bought a Faithfull 40mm Chisel Bit for lifting the floor tiles and in combination with the HR2630 that job was completed in minutes. Used it for drilling into the concrete footings this morning prior to removing them with a breaker and it went into the concrete with minimal effort. For such a lightweight tool it performs really well. After seeing how good this is and having enjoyed using my Makita LCT204W Cordless Drill Plus Impact Driver Kit for the last couple of years, Makita will be top of my list for future power tools.

Included bits aren’t the longest so if you’re looking to drill right through those walls you might have to buy something a bit longer. Also the chisel bit isn’t ideal for tile removing, though it does the job.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersSecond bought, first stolen ;-( I would give five stars but the chisel bit included (which is one of the most used of all the non rotary bits) is too short. I disappears into the masonry and allows the plastic chuck to get damaged. Otherwise great.

Tools supplied with the drill were smaller than expected from images
