Is the Smart Video Doorbell compatible with my current installation?

The Smart Video Doorbell is specially designed to replace your existing doorbell button. Your current installation must therefore include a wired doorbell and chime. Check your compatibility on check.netatmo.co m/security

Does the Smart Video Doorbell include a chime? Can I keep my current chime?

The Smart Video Doorbell does not include a chime because it is designed to work with your existing wired chime, whether mechanical or electronic.

Why is it necessary to have a chime?

The Smart Video Doorbell was specially designed to replace your existing doorbell and, therefore, to work with an existing wired chime.

This chime is required in your installation because it creates a charge in the doorbell circuit.

Does the Smart Video Doorbell run on batteries or does it plug into the mains?

The Smart Video Doorbell is constantly powered by the cables of your existing wired doorbell and so does not need batteries to work. So you don’t have to worry about replacing them.

Can I install the Smart Video Doorbell myself without needing professional help?

Yes, the Smart Video Doorbell is designed to be easy to install yourself. However, if you are looking for an installer, go to the “Find a Pro” page: netatmo.co m/profinder

As per other comments, this is no piece of cake to install. It definitely needs a more powerful transformer than indicated (we installed 12 volt 2 amp transformer 8.99 from Amazon). Managed to install eventually. The app is a bit tricky to pair with the bell. The whole process is not for the faint hearted.

Bought to replace a Nest device due to lack of HomeKit support and the main difference between them is that this works. Nest device would connect randomly then drop off whereas this is rock solid and hasn’t dropped out once since install.

I bought this one because it was one of not many which doesn’t require any subscriptions
It does my private ftp, Dropbox and memory card. Ftp works very well.
Issues I had were simply initial setup. It took few days for my device to configure it. I have extensive knowledge about how to install this kind of products. I have followed manuals but it was difficult. However after several reset settings it finally started to work. It does work very well now since I bought it. Quality of video recorder is good. Very rarely it can got upset by something and send fake notifications. In this case its face have to be cleaned and rebooted. The angle is not so wide as competition may offer.Mine is paired with Apple home pod as ring bell as original installation was not compatible to use chime. I had to buy a Netatmo tiny transformer to get power between doorbell and mains. It fits in my original door bell box on the wall so is not visible. I’ve got a feeling that app could be a bit faster to react to doorbell being pressed so it can be responded on time.

I’ve been looking to get A video doorbell for sometime but was always put off by the subscription fees.
But as I already had the Netatmo Floodlight camera I thought why not go for the doorbell.
I was not disappointed. Installation was easy and I used the 18v adapter (sold separately)
It works well with Alexa if you say “show me the door bell” you can view and speak in to people in real time from your echo show devices. However it should be noted that the video is lengthways so it can looked stretched , but you can still pinch zoom in.
Also you can get it to sound custom sounds from all your Echo device when the button is pushed so you don’t really need to use you old bell ringer.
Motion alerts on iPhone are good but it can get Annoying at times so I would recommend setting it to push button alerts only. In all it’s a good piece of kit, my only advice would be to set it up before you finish wiring it in and get a good Wi-Fi signal.

The best option for a HomeKit doorbell in the UK right now. Good picture quality, works well with chime on HomePods. A little slow to respond to motion so people are often just leaving the frame by the time they show up on the Apple TV, but still the best option as it requires no Hub or subscription.

We already had a couple of Netatmo cameras and the app. This is a handy way to expand an existing system and fairly easy to fit. Picture quality is good, fairly wide field of view. Not bad at night either. But there can be a bit of a delay between someone pressing the bell and getting a phone alert (indoor chime works as before). Although the installation said min 8v transformer, which I had, it spent half its time in power saving mode which does not have motion detection. I was informed my 8v 0.5A transformer was insufficient so I swapped it for a multi voltage one. At 8v 1.0A it wasn’t enough, but at 12V 1.0A it’s fine and never enters power saving. The chime seems fine at the increased voltage.

Easy install to existing wiring. Very easy set up with HomeKit. Remote notifications on iPhone, iWatch and Apple TV work perfect. Outside speaker very clear too for two way comms. As a bonus, no subscription required to store and review footage as stored locally on supplied micro data card.

Have bought 5 so far and returned 2. I should have returned 3 as a 1/3 had a crack in it but it is fine. Absolutely fine from Amazon as they have no quibble returns, but I wouldn’t buy from anywhere with no returns policy.

The problems were SD card related. Seems to be very common for these cameras.

When they do work they are amazing and seem very reliable.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’ll be honest, I had a long list of requirements when choosing a doorbell:
    > HomeKit support (preferably Secure Video)
    > Mains powered
    > No subscriptions
    > Good quality night and day recordings
    > Quick notifications

Now I had to compromise here, there is no HomeKit Secure Video, but there is HomeKit support, and having the doorbell pop up a video on my Apple TV mid programme is great for the mid-match Takeaway.

The range of voltages this can take however was the real selling point. My old doorbell was 8VA, inline with British Standard, most wired smart doorbells require at least 12VA if not 16. This can take the lot. You plug a small box in to the chime and the doorbell on the other end and it will tell you what switches to flick to get it right. There is no polarity requirement either, so you can put any wire any where and it works just fine. You even get a spare fuse incase you get it wrong somehow! Just follow the instructions to the letter.

The only downside to 8VA supply is set up, particularly for HomeKit, there just isn’t enough power available to complete the device handshaking, particularly if the device is fresh on the door and not had chance to charge its batteries. I would highly recommend going through most of the set up with the doorbell attached where you ultimately want it, but then when it comes to HomeKit set up, just remove the security screw and pop it off. You can power it using a standard Micro USB charger in the back, so bring it inside, plug it in to a powered Micro USB cable and complete the HomeKit set up there. It will set up no worries. Then simply remove from the power once set up is complete and get it back on your door. Worked a charm.

Once set up, no complaints! I still have my working chime and also the ability to answer remotely, or even hands free via Siri or Alexa.

Great product, works as expected. Saves clips locally rather than constantly uploading to the cloud, has good AI detection to stop notifications when the sun comes out or the wind blows the trees etc. Night vision is good and the app works well, integration with HomeKit is great too (didn’t have to set up WiFi network etc).

Would be nice if the field of view was improved, and the camera could probably be updated easily enough if they make a new version.

Price may be higher than competitors, but it’s worth factoring in subscription costs, quality and privacy.

Stylish doorbell with great quality images & recordings.
All images & videos are stored on to a micro-SD card, you can back up on any personal storage drive – OneDrive, Google Drive, DropBox type.
No active subscription to cloud services to pay, not extra costs.
Works with Apple’s HomeKit & Siri
Great Easy to use Netatmo security app.

Frequent setup problems. Customer support are quick to assist but there is always another issue.
Picture quality and functionality are good.
My installation is 3 metres from chime & chime module to camera/bell press with good WiFi at both ends. I am using a chime with integral 8V transformer.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI spent a long time researching various different options and chose this because it integrates with my other Netatmo products, is HomeKit compatible and fully featured. Not cheap, but well built. I paired it with a transformer and a Honeywell Wireless chime module. Installation was aided as ever by watching some practical videos on YouTube. I love that it rings through on my chime, phone and HomePod. Works well so far. My only observation is that it needs a ‘long press’ to make the connection with the chime

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI was bought this doorbell for Christmas by the other half after talking about it for about a year after it was unveiled.

I didn’t have a doorbell at all prior to this so was starting from scratch. I bought a chime with built in transformer listed as compatible on the Netatmo support page and connected this to a standard plug which is plugged into a socket.
I then ran the cable from the chime to the doorbell.

Set up was painful as the doorbell was refusing to connect however after 5 hours of trying it eventually worked. No idea what made it work. It just did.

Once working it stopped after 15 minutes. I followed the instructions and reset it and went through the rigmarole of it refusing to connect again (I disabled all but the main 2.4ghz network but this made no difference). Eventually Netatmo support told me to connect it using USB and try to set it up whilst powered through USB which worked!

Then after 15 minutes it stopped working again! Different issues each time. On one occasion it was that it worked through the Home app but not in the Netatmo app and was not recording. The next time it was nothing working.

I went back to Netatmo support and they remotely restarted it and hey presto – it’s working fine.

    So onto the verdict:

I have a Netatmo presence which detects and differentiates between people, vehicles and animals and records and detects from incredible distances which is amazing!

The doorbell however only detects and records people and they have to be very close to the camera to detect them (it won’t detect or record people walking past on the street) so it’s certainly no substitute for a CCTV camera.

The quality of the actual doorbell is very good however video quality leaves a lot to be desired. Compared to other doorbells and even Netatmo’s own other products the quality is poor. The field of view vertically is very good. It shows the very narrow lip on the roof above and the floor below however horizontally the field of view is pretty poor. I’m consistently only getting a view of the shoulders of people at the door.

I’ve got it linked up to HomeKit so my HomePods chime when someone rings the doorbell and when it detects motion the lights at the front of the house go on.

You could easily power the doorbell using a usb cable and then it will wirelessly chime on HomePods and phones negating the need for a chime.

I’ve also got a network hard drive which I am using to back up CCTV to through WI-FI which saves each motion detection (including a period after) as an MP4 video as well as on the micro SD card on the doorbell which saves the video encrypted and can only be accessed through the Netatmo security app. There is however no pre-record and the motion detection is quite slow so it generally started recording a few seconds after someone approaches the door.

Overall. The doorbell is by no means perfect however the lack of subscription fee unlike other video doorbells, the ability to back up to an FTP server and the HomeKit compatibility (as well as the promised HomeKit secure video compatibility) mean the positives of this outweigh the negatives and I would say this is the best Video Doorbell available today.

    – video quality is average, it’s like they push heavy compression on the sensor

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI installed this is 15 minutes, added it to the app and optimised the settings in another 15 minutes. I am very happy with this unit after 1 month of use. Great image quality, very responsive and no subscription fees. The talkback near instant with great voice quality. It comes with a backplate and a 25 degree mounting plate to suit most mounting requirements. I have just purchased one for my Dad as the interface is very simple and doesn’t require constant tweaking and messing about to get it working.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersOk, so I’ve got several other Netatmo cameras and currently use them with iOS devices, so not commenting from an android perspective. Waited months for this doorbell to come to market and tentatively ordered within a week of it coming out. I was worried as like most new products I was expecting issues. Which I got.

I’m only going to talk about my chime setup, so yours may vary – there are so many different combos. Mine was an 8v 1A transformer which according to Netatmo should have been enough power, but it wasn’t. I ended up having to buy a 12v 2A transformer and that did the trick. Next was getting the Netatmo power regulator wired in correctly. My chime set up wasn’t described in their web site, so after hours of trial and error I had to get in touch with their support.

Now this is where I’ve got my biggest gripe, took about a week for them to respond, after I’d sent though the request and photos of my setup. This is no way to run a support business. That said, the details they provided confirmed how to setup the power regulator and to do a full reset. Any wiring changes mean you have to fully reset via usb power and the reset button. I ended up having to reset twice before the HomeKit setup finally worked. This was really frustrating as it kept failing. However once setup, their app and HomeKit work well together with each bringing their own config/settings/options. There’s absolutely no lag when talking with people and the notifications to your devices are within 1-2 seconds of the bell being pushed. Picture quality in day and night is excellent.

Like all Netatmo products, their wifi signal strength is abysmal and the doorbell is no different. So make sure you’ve got good wifi strength. My phone showed 4 bars and the bell only shows two. If you’re running wifi that has 2.4 and 5Ghz on the same SSID, I’d highly recommend you create a second SSID purely for the bell (or other Netatmo products) as it will help with the setup. Why in this day and age they can’t support 5Ghz is beyond me.

One thing I’ll say about Netatmo products is that they do keep their firmware updated regularly and this one will be no exception with some additional features coming soon.

I do like the no subscription premise that Netatmo have. I can testify that their cameras do work as we got burgled, handed over the footage to the police and it helped to convict the burglar.

I really struggled on giving this a 3 or 4 star, but plumped for 4 as their support did get me sorted out, eventually, and once setup, it does work very well.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOttimo prodotto della linea Netatmo.
