Golden Review Award: 5 From Our Usersl’ho acquistato un po’ scettico, era da un po’ che volevo provare questo prodotto e devo dire che ne sono rimasto piacevolmente sorpreso, per chi ha la striscia led (Hue Gradient Lightstrip) ottimo per l’immersivit in film e serie tv, attenzione perch se non lo si usa con un ricevitore HDMI le luci non si sincronizzano, per esempio se si vogliono utilizzare le app native della tv le luci non si sincronizzano perch le tv non hanno un’HDMI output ma solamente input, quindi se non avete ricevitori esterni (sky, apple tv, chromecast, fire stick ecc.) non compratelo perch sareste costretti a rimandarlo indietro!

Purchased this from Amazon warehouse at a decent price. Was slightly worried when I received due to the condition of the outer box as it looked in a bad way but on install all works fine. Anyway, I have the Hue kit in my house which is fantastic and it all runs very well through my existing Hub. I have a new Philips OLED TV – I decided to go with the higher spec TV rather than the backlit version and I always had this sync box in mind to complete the setup. It is fantastic and took me around 30 minutes to set up as it is so straightforward if you have the app and hub already. Download the sync app, follow the instructions and enjoy. I had already done research on the pros and cons so I connected my main two devices to ports 2 & 4 which have the most bandwidth. After setup, I spent some time adjusting some of the Sync box settings to my liking and I suppose this part could be frustrating as it is totally dependent on your other devices that are connected plus how you like the kit to work in your environment. The end result in fantastic and in my opinion worth every penny.

    Update 11th October.
Issues with the box not auto switching on & off with TV. App controlled, it worked fine but had to manually switch on and off each time which is not ideal. After hours of messing about I also purchased some new quality HDMI from Amazon to see if that solved it. Made no difference so I gave up and returned to Amazon as faulty. I will definitely purchase another as the set up was fantastic. I wont be risking a warehouse return again and will buy a brand new one instead. Lesson learnt.

I have mine synced up with 5 Hue Playbars. I love it. Take a a little setting up to get the box to work just how you want it too, and the video doesn’t show it at its best sadly but for gaming and movies, amazing. I love it. I would definitely recommend. Sadly it’s costly, but I have smart home stuff everywhere so it was only a matter of time before I added it to my setup! I just want another now for my bedroom!

Installed on my LG G1 OLED. It fits well, I’d recommend doing some measurements before you install the brackets so don’t do it whilst the TV is on the wall! I don’t have the sync box. But the zoned light effects are great, against a white wall the light is soft and well diffused.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEl producto da lo que ofrece.

This is a superb addition to any home cinema system! I have loads of Philip’s Hue lights, and this made sense to enhance the TV area of the sitting room.

I have my Apple TV plugged into this and then this plugs into the TV. There’s room for four things to be cabled into this.

Connection was easy through the Hue app, which walked me through everything very easily. Begin by trying to add the Sync Box in the standard Hue app and then it tells you to get another one, but starting here means you’re walked through everything.

Up to ten lights can be used by the box, and so I have the strip behind my TV, a large strip behind my sofa, an Iris, and the seven spots in the ceiling. You configure where they all are in relation to the TV (again v easy) and the. You’re good to go.

It’s a discrete box, and is really easy to use.

An impressive piece of kit. Well done to Philip’s.

Night and day difference. We aren’t using the HDMI box (ridiculous cost if you ask me) but it’s ambient background is amazing. Previously we had three of the bars attached, but the light is just sensational by comparison. Expensive? Sure, but worth it. If you want to sync to content, I’d just hold out until the HDMI accessory becomes worth what it actually is – which is at least 25% of the RRP!

  18. MarisolStoll says:

Initially I was a little disappointed as, like others, I experienced the Sync Box losing connection. However, after a little digging I found this could be easily resolved by:

    – replacing the supplied Philips HDMI connecting the Sync Box to the TV, with a good quality/fast lead – I know, it’s ridiculous given the cost!
    – Use the two fastest HDMI ports (2 & 4) on the Sync Box for the most demanding inputs (i.e Firestick/games console etc), Philips confirmed these have more bandwidth. Something like a Freesat/SKY box will work happily in one of the other ports
    – if you are using a Fire Stick/Roku this should be connected directly into the back of the Sync Box without the use of an extender cable

Since this was done our box hasn’t missed a beat during movies or whilst listening to music/video content via Prime Music.

It is expensive, but for those already heavily invested in Hue coloured bulbs this is a no brainer.

My biggest problem is my fire cube or 4k max stick having to be put to sleep to keep the device off. Outside of that who needs to go to the movies. This thing works awesome with a big screen and dolby atmos soundbar.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWhat a superb piece of kit. Easy to stick to the back of the tv (Philips have a tutorial video on YouTube which is very helpful) and fairly easy (you need to be a tiny bit tech-savvy) to set up. Bear in mind that you must have the Philips Hue Sync Box as well as their Bridge for this to work. Have hooked up some Hue Go lamps around the living room as well for that really immersive feel.
The light is nice and bright and easily adjustable via the Hue App. We regularly have it on even if the tv isn’t just to create some cool ambiance.
    Expensive, but totally worth it.

If you’re looking at this, then you obviously have a Phillips hue setup. You may have tried Sync My Lights, or some similar app and been disappointed- well so did I, but I went ahead and got this as soon as it was released, and it has been brilliant.
It really does make films more immersive- if you set the room lights dim and have this set up with just the light around the tv, it gives the best effect; so realistically, you’re going to need at least 2 colour changing hue lights by the tv. I have 5 lights around my tv, and it works brilliantly. You can include all the lights in the room, but that tends to get a bit distracting, especially if the lights are behind or beside you. Also, I normally keep the intensity on ‘subtle’. A faster setting works well for video games, but can be distracting if you’re watching a movie/program. Generally, you don’t notice it directly, and it just subtly expands your perception of the screen area- except when the scene keeps flicking between 2 shots with very different brightness, in which case it is a bit noticeable.
It allows for 4 hdmi inputs, which it can switch between automatically, and has a single output, -so you feed all your devices into this, then from this to your tv. You can’t make smart tv apps work on this, as it needs to ‘intercept’ the hdmi feed to know what colour to use.
The speed and accuracy of the colours is brilliant, and it is very reliable- it can occasionally glitch or freeze for a moment, but this is not frequent and sorts itself out quickly.
Overall, it’s a quality product, and the price tag matches that- but then; if you’ve spent a ton of money on your tv and lighting already, why not add just a little more..

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersUps and downs.. First time I had some issues with my Google Chromecast TV and the sync box.. As soon as I connected the Chromecast, any content I would cast to the screen with it while connected to the Hue sync box, would display for about a few seconds before the screen would turn off and on.
After many hours to troubleshooting, cables changed and TV settings, I have found how to solve the problem..
I have a Samsung TV. Follow these steps to ensure the HDMI UHD Color setting is disabled:

Open the TV settings with your remote
    Go to the General tab
    Select “External Device Manager”
    Select “HDMI UHD Color”
Uncheck the circle for the HDMI port that is connected to your Hue Sync Box to turn off HDMI UHD Color.
This resolved the issue immediately for me and I have not seen it come back. I turned the setting back on to make sure and the error happened right away.
    Now everything is working fine.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis product creates a sight to behold if you have some patience, tech know-how and some money to burn.

I’ll start off by saying that once you have the right setup, this product really does work the way it’s supposed to, however in order to achieve this there are a few things you need to know.

First the obvious, this product is expensive! and you should only consider paying the price if your already invested in the Philips Hue ecosystem, and by that I mean already owning a ‘Hue Bridge’ (49.99) and a few ‘White & Colour Ambience Bulbs’ (84.99 Pack of 2) at the very least, there is almost no point in owning this product if you only have Philips Hue bulbs that can only move between warm and cool light, you need colour for this to be effective.

To achieve the very best effect, and what I would argue is the intended use from Philips, your going to need the following products:
    Philips Hue Sync Box: 229.99
Philips Hue Gradient Lightstrip: 159.99 – 199.99 (Price varies depending on the size of your tv)
    Philips Hue Bridge: 49.99

Adding this up your now coming in at between 439.97 – 479.97 and that’s without having a couple of additional lights dotted around the room for a fully immersive effect.

Additionally, once you’ve justified the price your going to need to ask yourself if you have the patience and reasonable tech knowledge to set it all up and your going to need WiFi to achieve this.

The setup process itself isn’t too bad if you know what your doing, you download two apps, the first is to locate all of your devices and link them together and the second is to adjust sync preferences and turn it on/off. When I began using Hue products a few years ago they all ran through your WiFi, meaning a good WiFi speed was necessary, however I’ve recently heard that the new versions can run via local Bluetooth built into the various products, but I’m yet to confirm this, so it may still be the case that you need a good speed for it all to work well.

When I first set this all up I noticed some delay and stuttering with the lights in accordance to the image displayed on my TV, to fix this I moved the Sync Box and Hue Bridge next to each other and placed them both close to my WiFi router, the experience was then everything and more than I imagined.

To round this all up I’d say the ‘Philips Hue Sync Box’ is a definite recommend to anyone already invested in the Philips Hue ecosystem and is looking to treat themselves. That being said I’d advise those of you who fit this description to put the ‘Gradient Lightstrip’ on your wish list for later down the road to fully amp up the experience.

If you don’t already own any Philips Hue products I’d advise starting your hue journey somewhere else with something like a starter kit including some bulbs and the bridge to get used to the experience and slowly build things up from there, that’s how I started and a few years down the road I now have a fully ‘hued’ entertainment room. 479 is a steep starting point for anyone not familiar with these products or how well they work within your home.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve been thinking about this for a while and now I’ve got it I love it. Colours and brightness are perfect, really adding to my viewing experience. Previously I had been using play bars plus other Hue lights but this is a major improvement.

    Great bit of kit.

Only downside I had was after initially setting everything up and using it for the first time (about 5 hours), the next time I pulled up the sync app, it wouldn’t connect.

Work round was accessing my router and disabling the 5ghz bandwidth whilst I done a factory reset of the sync box, connected everything back up and followed the app instructions again. Turned the 5ghz back on after an hour. No problems since

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis has had a few updates addressing most the issues people wanted from the box. I’ve recently added the gradient strip as my tv is pretty close to wall (less the 1.5″) so the play bars wouldn’t work. I have put a strip along the bottom as the gradient only covers the sides and top.

Behind the front speakers (left and right) there is a play bar each with an iris light closer to the floor.

The way this is set up is blu ray > AVR > Samsung box > tv. It has no issues with 4K HDR content (tested in 2 set ups with a panasonic 4K)

I use it with a Logitech elite remote and set up was a breeze. Works 90% of the time, failing that the app can get it working. (You can control Upto 10 lights)

Viewing is so much more immersive, really enjoy watching films with this on, tv is also great. Gaming with this is ok, some may want it on some may want it off)

As for the ps5, if you have a tv that supports 2.1 you won’t be able to use these features with this box as it won’t support the FPS.

Handy features enable it to turn on and off automatically when needed. and the ability to set what lights you want to use for the sync device.

It is genuinely one of the best gadgets I’ve ever owned. The first time I used it I was speechless how good and responsive this was. Yes it might be expensive but I do think that people that want to improve their home theatre experience will be delighted with this.

I’ve started with 3 Play Bars behind the TV and then wanted to make the full room “Syncable” so I bought 3 Hue Go 2.0. These are usually really expensive but I waited to buy when there was an offer on Amazon and managed to get a good price each.

The Sync Box can be a bit temperamental though, I recently had a new Wifi upgrade from Virgin and they’ve sent us a new 1Gbps router. It messed it all up completely, the sync would drop every 10 mins although it was working fine before. After a lot of fiddling with the network I realised that the main issue was coming from the Hue Bridge (plugged to the router via ethernet) now being too far (in the bedroom) from the Sync Box. Very strange as it was the exact same setup with the old router and never had an issue before! So luckily I had an extender in the Living Room, plugged the bridge on the extender’s ethernet port and never had an issue since. Be aware that if you change your Wifi network or router, it might cause some issues. Make sure that the bridge isn’t too far either, you can check the connection status in the Hue Sync app, if it says “Good” then you’re fine.

I’ve seen reviews saying that were saying it wasn’t compatible with Dolby Vision. Indeed it wasn’t for a while after it launched but they now are supporting Dolby Vision just fine. I watched a lot of Dolby Vision content on Netflix recently and haven’t had an issue. The option “Dolby Vision Enhanced Compatibility” in the app needs to be turned ON (only if it doesn’t work), I did the first time, the lights wouldn’t show the right colours but ever since I ticked that option it’s been fine.

    Pros:
    – Improve home theatre experience drastically
    – Incredibly responsive and accurate with what’s showing on screen
    – Many customisation options including intensity, brightness, adding more lights, placement in the room etc.
    – Compatible with most video formats such as Dolby Vision (in recent months), 4K…
    – You can enjoy the most out of your TV by keeping the brightness at high level as the lights will help when room gets dark
    – Very reliable, when setup correctly

    Cons:
    – Expensive (but still worth it in my opinion) won’t be affordable to everyone especially if you need a certain amount of lights. Wait for the best deals/Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
    – Can be temperamental with some routers/network setups
    – No Ethernet port, works via WiFi only

    Current Setup:
1 x Hue HDMI Sync Box
    1 x Hue Bridge
3 x Play Bars (Top, Left, Right behind TV)
    3 x Hue Go 2.0

    Best gadget ever!!

Very effective and easy enough to install- just a bit on the pricey side-but a great addition if you are into creating lighting atmospheric’s

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersReally like the sync box, adds a lot to my setup. Easy to set up and was up and running in no time. No problem with my Denon amplifier either. Small and heavy, though a bit expensive but worth it.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersEl efecto conseguido es espectacular.

    As conseguimos cuatro tonalidades diferentes.
