PortaPow 3rd Gen Data Blocker (Red) – Protect Against Juice Jacking
Following the success of our Data Block USB cables, Data Blocker USB Adaptor released in 2013 and the ‘SmartCharge’ Data Blocker released in 2015, we’ve now released our latest update.
The 3rd Gen PortaPow Data Blocker still connects to the end of your USB charging cable and allows you to charge your device safely with no risk of viruses / hacking, and incorporates our SmartCharge chip to send the correct charging signal for your device, which can even improve charging speed if your charger is sending the wrong signal. It still has the same compact size so it won’t block neighboring sockets if your charger/computer has several side by side.
Improvements include visible security, laser etching, and zero waste packaging. See below for more details.
The blocker will not solve charging issues caused by a low quality or extra long cable, a low powered socket (eg some car sockets) or a device which requires a non-standard signal (eg some SatNavs / DashCams). In these cases please use a different charger or cable. Devices which charge using Qualcomm Quick Charge, Samsung Adaptive Fast Charge, Motorola TurboPower or similar standards require data transfer to be enabled and a compatible charger, and so will not charge at extra fast speeds from normal USB sockets or with a data blocker.

Edit 1. I bought a 3rd generation of these and I got it today. It was smashed. Completely bent and destroyed. I had to get a refund and order another one. Now it’s going to take about a week almost to arrive. I am not impressed.
Edit 2: The replacement I ordered came and it is in perfect condition. I am very happy. So now I have a 3rd generation model which clearly does not even have the data pins so it can be visually inspected and proven that no data can cross devices plugged in to it.

Does the job nicely of protecting your expensive smartphones when charging out in the wild with ports unknown. Buy one immediately if you charge your phone with ANYTHING that you personally do not own and trust completely. I don’t care if it’s someone elses powerbank or a USB charging port on a bus. Use one of these!

Simple little plug to block incoming and outgoing data from USB ports… works as intended. Not entirely sure about the fast charge portion, since I haven’t noticed any faster charging with the devices I’ve used.
I have tested this with charge doctor and it does increase charging but not by much. Between 0ma to 100ma faster. I like the datablock feature as it keeps it private
This plug blocks data availability on a pc. When you plug this in the charge cable, there is no request to allow access to the phone.
charges faster on just about all powered usb ports. bought because of just brought to my attention of hacks haking puplic usb’s.

Bought as a charger in work as the is a block on our computers, works fantastically! Haven’t had no issues, does what it says on the tin. It doesn’t slow down the charge either. Deoievery was also fast.
Security for those charging their devices in a public USB port. Can’t speak to the notion that this will speed up charging for any device, but knowing that there is no data link when you plug your device directly into a pubic charging location is the main purpose for this.
Works as advertised. Makes it safe to use USB charging ports in public places.

Simple and effective, makes possible charging when the computer is in sleep mode, prevents viruses crawling onto the stick, speeds up charging.
It’s so weird that I find it so hard to find more of these, it’s very useful though, nowadays everything you plug in to wants access to all of your phone data, it reminds me of windows autorun.

presa USB3 della workstation DELL del lavoro, una precision 8510, il tester USB che ho acquiatato a parte rileva un passaggio di corrente di 0,44A, inserendo questo adattatore la corrente passa a 0,9A

The main reason why i got this product is because i charge my phone through PC’s and laptops all the time and im fed up of the computers asking me what i would like to do with the phone and leaving it open on a public computer which could have anything on, this stops all of that, as soon as i plug this in with my phone it JUST CHARGES which is exactly what i want, it also does seem to charge faster than if the computer sees the phone as a storage drive, although a little pricey for what it is i really like it.

Really love this quick adapter. I’m able to charge my phone very quick at work without my phone comprising their system and their system compromising my phone. The only downside is that my coworkers constantly ask to borrow this because it charges their phones faster than their OEM iPhone chargers but that’s how good this product is.
The PortaPow Fast Charge + Data Block USB Adapter has met and exceeded my expectations. I can comfortable connect my phone to charge to any USB port without having to worry about the integrity of the charger device — be that a computer or a purpose-built wall charger. I even use this on my own personal computer when I charge my phone so iTunes and Photos will not disrupt my workflow whenever I plug my phone in.

Provato subito su porta usb del Pc e con batteria da 3000 mAh. Con app dedicata misuro la corrente di ricarica erogata che da 450/650 passa a 1200 mA!! Ottimo…ne ho comprati altri 4 subito…da regalare!

love these! I have dedicated charge cables as well but these are awesome for turning any charge+data cable handy into a charge-only in a flash. they work great and I get quick charges on all my devices and it’s nice to have a few stashed around the places I spend most of my time in case all I have available is a basic cable
These are a good idea, I have several and like using them. With more USB charging ports in public places, I highly recommend these.
This thing is like condom for your cell phone. It will keep you protected from crooks hacking airport USB charges, public charging spots or unknown laptops you are trying to use to charge your device. And if you think it is bit paranoid to use something like this, think again! Ransom ware, malware and other junk is blooming right now faster then ever.
Questo paradossalmente apre il mercato a cavi ed accessori che hanno di meno per dare di pi. Si possono quindi pagare cari dei cavi che hanno qualcosa in meno di tutti gli altri pi economici? S, se volete risparmiarvi un caricabatteria in viaggio o una presa occupata in pi. Si trovano in giro dei tutorial per modificarsi i cavi USB eliminando i dati ma un adattatore come questo mi sembra una soluzione pi sicura.
Forse un po’ caro per quello che (non) fa ma considerato che (con Prime) per 7 te lo portano anche a casa direi che accettabile. Meglio prendere il cavo o l’adattatore? Ho preferito quest’ultimo, cos posso usarlo con qualunque cavo.
Fa quel che promette e di recente la sto sperimentando per un uso inatteso. La tengo inserita nella presa della mia Hyundai per forzare l’uso dell’iPhone tramite Bluetooth anzich modalit iPod. In questo modo posso usare senza problemi i comandi viva voce per le telefonate. Oggetto semplice ma efficace.
This thing is so handy. Ford Sync was driving me crazy, but I didn’t want to have to use a 12V socket for my phone charger in my car. So this thing lets me charge from the USB port inside my center console without dealing with Ford’s software trying to manage my phone.
Seems to work perfectly. Using for an old Convoy2 & newer Samsung S3. So far so good.
Was able to charge them using my nice data cable without it trying to load drivers. 🙂
Exactly what I wanted. A way to do that without having to mod the cable.
Bought it to isolate my iPhone from corporate USB inspectors / injectors. Charges my phone and the phone has no idea that it’s connected to a USB port (same goes for the corporate issued computer on the other side).
Works really well, function as described. Really boost your charging speed, very noticeable increase. Totally worth the price.
I bought this so I could charge my phone in the car without having to switch it back to Bluetooth mode every single time I plug in my phone. It works great! My car has Bluetooth audio which works well and also a bunch of outdated features like iPod support and Pandora support that are triggered automatically when you plug in your phone.
A must have item protects the data on your iPhone or iPad from syncing to a third party PC . Working in a bank this item is widely used by IT risk and Freud .
Having seen ‘that episode’ of CSI Cyber, I bought this for security when I charge from any public socket. However, have noticed that my phone does seem to charge more quickly when I charge through it at home.
Does what it was designed for. In my case I needed something to hook into my car USB for my garmin GPS since data USB cables do not work with GARMIN (which is what comes with the GPS). Didn’t want to fix my car fuse for 100$ after it blew out a month after i fixed it. Good product.
I don’t know if it does fast charging, I have not tried it. But it does block data.

Piccolo adattatore economico che effettivamente blocca il trasferimento dati, in alcuni casi pu aumentare il passaggio di corrente, e conseguentemente la velocit di carica. Ottimo se utilizzato in accoppiata ad un tester usb, per lo meno le prive volte allo scopo di verificarne il corretto funzionamento.

Works exactly as advertised, gave me 1.7a from my car stereo (instead of .5a) and 2.1a from my laptop (again instead of .5a). This is a Good Product.

Les appareils se mettent bien en mode “recharge” et pas en mode “recharge + liaison”, donc le temps de chargement est bien rduit.
Purchased this device to see if it would charge my Garmin Nuvi GPS in my vehicle (normal USB cables caused the GPS to display an error). Adding the PortaPow USB adapter allowed a standard USB2 cable to charge the Nuvi via the charging port in my vehicle, while allowing the GPS to operate normally. I no longer am solely reliant on the OEM Nuvi charger..
Love these, especially since when using an unknown port or computer to charge the phone I know they block any data access. The benefit of how much more quickly they charge my devices is just an added benefit!
The charge rate for my Nexus 6 with this device in my laptop is just as fast as my turbo charger without all the heat on the back of my phone from the turbo charger. It fully charges my Sony Z Ultra from 20% to full in less than an hour. I don’t know how it does it, but I can’t complain.
This device was exactly what I needed. For me it was most annoying seeing the New Device pop up every few seconds if my USB port didn’t allow for a solid connection. I also see an increase in current draw when I use this (according to my USB ammeter) which is great. Highly recommend.
I like this little guy, and the orange color means I haven’t lost it yet. I have a $20 charge rate meter, and this does increase charging performance by about 20% for some cable / device combinations.
My wife and I BOTH have phones that can be picky about the charger that they wish too work with – this little device completely solves that. Havent had it long enough for a speed of charging comparison, but that’s not really why I bought it.

Effettivamente, non appesantendo lo smartphone con ad esempio la connessione Mtp, i tempi di ricarica migliorano

Vi faccio l’esempio con i tempi di carica di un semplice auricolare bluetooth completamente scarico:
– caricamento normale un’oretta
– caricamento con questo articolo: 20 minuti.

I bought this to take on vacation and to places where I don’t know if I can trust the USB charging stations.
So far it has done an admiral job of letting me charge my phone with the knowledge that the random USB port is not trying to steal my information or inject malicious code onto my devices.

Some devices show “not charging” when connected to a USB port. This little adapter has addressed those issues, as it uses the full potential of the port to deliver charging. As stated in the description the unit being charged does not enter in mass storage device or trigger iTunes when connected to a computer, and this is beneficial for various reasons mainly:
1. The computer will not have to search for drivers every time a peripheral is attached
2. Charging an iOS device which is synchronized to another computer (You will not be asked whether you want to sync with current computer)
3. Viruses cannot get into device being charged. Trouble free charging.
Many a time I find that my phone or tablet are nearly dead prior to going out, and again this charger comes to the rescue. The PortaPow makes for faster charging thus minimising precious time.
And the red colour makes it so much easier to find in those panic situations 🙂

My backup battery for my cell phone never worked to charge my phone until I got this little jewel. A friend steered me onto it. Now the backup battery works as advertised.
Does what it’s supposed to do. You can charge via a friends pc and not have to worry about data integrity as this will effectively block the pc from recognizing a new drive.
Does what i says it does. Protects you from hackers through the USB port.
L’ho acquistato perch permette di bloccare la funzione dati in fase di caricamento da usb pc, che nel mio caso con telefono Android scollegava sempre la microsd impedendo il corretto funzionamento delle app.
Da questo punto di vista, utilissimo.
This a a fantastic bit of kit, and goes everywhere with me attached to a USB cable. Isolates my phone so it will charge from my locked-down work PC, and it even charges more quickly from a mains charger. My iPad will now charge from a normal USB port, I wouldn’t be without it.
Works exactly as described. Allows fast charging of my Blackberry Playbook. Can be used with any USB cable, as it plugs into the supply end.

utile soprattutto in macchina ma non solo. la ricarica dello devicers avviene con tempi leggermente inferiore dato il costo. consigliata.
Il prodotto sembra funzionare, garantendo un pi veloce caricamento del cellulare effettuato con i cavi usb (per esempio dal computer).

In effetti questo accessorio ti fa risparmiare tempo per la ricarica. Per quello che ho avuto modo di provarlo, con il mio iphone 6, penso che un 40% di tempo in meno la ricarica ci guadagna.
comodo per chi ha iphone e ipad che non sempre riconosce cavetti non apple con questo cavetto si bypassa il problema.
ma ne esistono altre due ottimizzate per devices poco popolari e “particolari”.
Svolge sicuramente bene il suo lavoro: velocizzare la ricarica dei dispositivi connessi alle lentissime porte USB della maggior parte dei pc, (isolandoli al contempo dal trasferimento dei dati).
Tuttavia non eguaglia in termini di velocit il caricatore originale dei nostri devices, ma si ci avvicina moltissimo: ho misurato la tensione con un apposito misuratore di tensione per prese USB: nelle fasi iniziali di ricarica eroga 0,90 ampere contro 0,99 del caricatore originale,
verso la fine della carica (l’80%) l’erogazione rallenta a 0.50, e infine 0.30, esattamente come con il caricatore originale
( il telefono a comandare questa feature!!).
Conclusione: Vale assolutamente l’acquisto, ottimo prodotto per chi lavora in ufficio / passa molto tempo davanti al pc,
evita di portarti sempre dietro il caricatore da casa o l’acquisto di un secondo e pi costoso caricatore da parete.
Got lower amp and voltage. Had to remove it to get better charging on LG G3. Good though if you want security charging in public places as it blockd data.

inoltre : BLOCCANDO LA TRASMISSIONE DI DATI CONSENTE DI AUMENTARE IL VOLTAGGIO PER LA RICARICA E QUINDI CONSENTE ANCHE DI RICARICARE IPAD DA UNA QUALSIASI PORTA USB.

I used PortaPow’s own “PortaPow USB Power Monitor Version 2” to check the amps. It works as promised.
I just wish it was $3 cheaper.
This works exactly as described and get my Nexus 5 to display ‘charging of AC’ when connected to my macbook pro with a normal USB cable. I tried with 5 different USB cables and it worked on all, except for one that was really thin and long.
Tested with iPhone5, Nexus 5 and Macbook pro and my car. This allows be to bring one USB data cable with me when I travel, and turns it into a fast charge only cable when I need it.
It does seem to realy boost the time it takes to charge my phone.
Doesn’t interfere with anything, just didn’t really seem to do anything for my Droid Turbo. I tried it with a 2A USB port on my Droid Turbo but the Turbo didn’t recognize it as a turbo charge… I have not tried it as data block adapter. It does seem to charge “regular” devices a bit faster.
Quite simply works with computer USB ports! As it blocks data, the phone charges 2.5x faster! Excellent for 5!
