Rift Apart is the 1st new Ratchet and Clank game, in the original timeline, since the PS3 game into the Nexus. The game in a way continues the ending of nexus but also introduces some new gmeplay mechanics (phantom dash ), new characters (rivet, kitt, quantum and pierre are all great additions) and still remains the most visually impressive game on PS5 to date.
The story feels a bit tame but is a good sequel to the future saga. Characters are handled well, there is good character development for the new cast (ratchet and clank whilst having some development, are prettymuch at the stage where they have been through all the development they need to, courtesy of the brilliant future saga) and there are some aspects I feel can be developed in a any future sequels (give rivet and ratchet unique abilities / weapons, give either lombax the option of visiting a planet with unique missions / levels for them).
Overall its a great game for Ratchet and clank fans and would highly recommend it if you enjoyed the PS3 and PS2 games. Personally I would say that it is in my top 5 R&C games (ranked 4th behind crack in time, going commando and up your arsenal ). Here’s to hoping insomniac releases a sequel which can match or eclipse ACIT.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat like all the others. The only gripe I have is that it is mostly played as Rivet. Ratchet’s fiance. Also, when you complete the game and continue in challenge mode, the maps do not reset, so you better be familiar with the layout.

Absolutely love the Ratchett and Clank games with their action, puzzles and humour. My only real criticism is that it was a little short, quick to complete. But thoroughly entertaining.

Loved the Ratchet and Clank series as a kid, and decided to pick this up. First hour was amazing but after that, just felt very repetitive. Go to a planet, shoot a gun. Go to a new planet, shoot a gun. No mini games, side plots or different bosses like the old games used to have and the arena had three levels…three

I waited a long long time to play this I love Ratchet and clank on the ps2/3/4 and PSP and when rift apart was released I just wanted it immediately but I couldn’t get hold of a ps5 for a reasonable price anyway until about 2 weeks ago and as soon as I got one I had to buy this game and wow it’s absolutely brilliant the graphics are definitely next gen the game play is perfect and it’s one of the best looking games I’ve ever seen the story line is good and I enjoyed ever last second of my play through if you own a ps5 this game is a must play

5.0 out of 5 stars Ratchet and clank is one of the best PlayStation exclusives for me

If you liked the ratchet and clank that was released on ps4 then you will like this as it is basically part 2 to that one. The introduction of Rivet is a great idea and was well executed. The game takes roughly 20hours to complete and if your a trophy hunter like myself you will be happy to know that the platinum trophy isn’t to difficult. If your going for the platinum trophy I would definitely recommend levelling the void repulser up to level 5 as early as possible. As for how the game runs it is amazing and very smooth especially if you have a monitor that has the capabilities of 120hz. Never had any problems with crashing or anything just a very well made game.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve had a PS5 since launch, and although played a few games, this is my first PS5 exclusive (not counting HFW, Miles Morales, FFVII Intergrade, etc).

I waited for the price to drop and at 34.99 this is an amazing title to pick-up to experience what the PS5 is capable of. The graphics, gameplay and haptic feedback are all on-point. As for the actually game, the story is fantastic and Ratchet and Clank never fail to impress. Also love how quick load times are and warping between worlds is seamless and a testament to the PS5s SSD.

I’m only 3 hours in and having a complete “blast”! There are plenty of weapons and upgrade options and a lot of variety in the gameplay with tasks to do (e.g. diffusing bombs) and loads of side missions.

Rift Apart has really got me back into my PS5, as the lack of titles recently meant I was going for my Switch more. Totally worth it if you have a PS5 and not played this yet. Will definitely keep me busy for a few weeks at least.

Last generation had a noticeable lack of Ratchet and his buddy Clank other than the lackluster remake/reboot of the first game that had content cut out which made it inferior to the original in some ways and given that I had grown up with the series since the first game I was disappointed. Given that they released 6 games in 6 years on the PS3 a break from the series was understandable. Being the first original title from a nearly decade long absence the game had a lot of catching up to do and promises to live up to and for the most part it certainly did deliver. The near movie level quality graphics with ray tracing at a locked and consistent 60 FPS in performance RT mode is a glorious sight to behold and I imagine it looks even better with an OLED and/or HDR display. The return of old levels like Sargasso is quite nostalgic and seeing them in movie-like quality is quite amazing.

The gameplay is very fluid and responsive and the addition of the phantom dash makes for more dynamic and frantic encounters with enemies, it is quite satisfying when you dodge an enemies melee attack and counter them with your shotgun. Speaking of weapons the variety of Your Arsenal is pretty impressive from the return of the trusty Buzz Blades to the long range Headhunter and the Ricochet. If you like denying your enemies easy access to you there are plenty of area denial tools like the Topiary Sprinkler and the Void Repulser as well as the returning Gloves Of Doom and if you like going straight in guns blazing there are Tools Of Destruction for that approach as well. The adaptive triggers help to make each weapon feel unique like with the Enforcer you can press the trigger lightly to only let it shoot once but press it down all the way and it will let loose and you can feel the Resistance on your finger.

One of my favourite moments is the second to last level where if you play it right and use precision or hard hitting weapons like the Headhunter it almost feels like a stealth mission for the beginning bit with even the character you are playing acknowledging not getting caught yet and quickly goes wrong once you are spotted and turns into an epic all out fight by the end of it. The swapping between alternate worlds and dimensions super quickly is easily one of the most impressive parts of the game as this gets incorporated into the gameplay almost seamlessly and is quite the technical achievement. The humour can at certain times feel a bit off but I can dismiss this as the writers trying to get back into the swing of things and shaking off metaphorical rust but at times can be hilarious like Clank’s bleeped out swear when going up against a bone monster. The achievement list can feel a bit barebones as there’s no achievement for getting all collectibles or all arena challenges or going through challenge mode which would be more of an incentive for people to replay the game. In conclusion this team of mostly new blood have made a great game and should be proud of themselves and I believe they can improve even more for the next game which is looking to be the final conclusion to the entire series.
