The gameplay is great, the graphics outstanding, and it’s a fun game…but it’s too short a game being sold at the same price as games that last much much longer. Should have been half the price released. But the game itself is entertaining.

Having played and enjoyed Ratchet and Clank games since PlayStation 2,3 and 4, this PS5 version is just brilliant. Great graphics and sound, very enjoyable game, highly recommended.

    First ps5 game I’ve purchased

    Graphics are amazing
    Loading time are instant

    Cut scenes run smooth
No slowdown on frame rates when lots on screen

    Really good game

This is a technical masterpiece – no other game or any platform comes close to this right now: it is like playing a Pixar movie.

If you have a PS5 then you can’t not get this game, especially if you have a really nice 4K tv. Miss it at your peril!

Loved every minute of it! Another Insomniac Games classic. Plus since it’s on PS5 it’s even more of an experience. Recommend!

Sadly as a big ratchet and clank fan this was an easy platinum and not very challenging. I love the gameplay and scenery was beautiful. But the story was lacking and nothing like crack in time.

I’d never played a Ratchet and Clank game before and to be honest I only bought it because of the lack of releases on PS5, but my am I glad I did.
I haven’t played a game this fun in years, it’s fast paced, visually stunning, takes great advantage of the new controllers and is hilarious in parts. Probably my favourite game on this gen so far. Think I’ll go back and play the last entry now!

This game is such great fun. It never feels like a chore or grindy. The new features of the PS5 controller are nicely utilised with great emphasis on the adaptive triggers.

The story is engaging and the game looks fantastic. With the newest fidelity option of Performance RT (I think) you get the best of both worlds in terms of FPS, and ray tracing.

Even if the game is short, you can see why this won game of the year.

A true AAA game, this sets a new standard for console graphics – it’s incredibly detailed and looks like you’re watching a pixar film it’s so good looking. The quality and production values are insanely high. Importantly it’s also really good fun, quite varied, and has a decent (if not amazing) story. It’s a bit more difficult than you may expect given the cartoony visuals but it’s not annoyingly hard. Play time wise I’d say it’s about 15 hours or so.

Brilliant fun, funny, bright and loud and relentless but with enough variety in environments and gameplay to keep you entertained right to the end. Technically incredible, dazzling graphics and a nice little story to keep you interested.

Any game that allows you to turn your enemies into topiary is all right with me.

The last R&C game was the only one I have ever finished and then restarted immediately – it might happen again this time.

This was my first time meeting Ratchet & Clank. The game has great graphics and it’s a must have for the PS5 experience. The game reminded me of Crash bandicoot combined with a shooting game (there is lots of shooting). It was good fun, however, once completed, not sure I will play it again. It seems like a game you play once and you are done.

Bought this as a gift for a 10 year old boy who loves to play video games on his weekends. It’s a great game that even I myself used to play when I was his age. I’m glad they came out with this knee addition to keep the new generation familiar with some older games we grew up on.

Fantastic game and highly recommended. 70 price tag was too high for me but as soon as it was reduced I made my purchase. Graphics and sound were stunning but controls took me a little while to grasp having just played previous version.

Yes this game is expensive, I got it in a bundle with my PS5 and I probably wouldn’t have bought it separately.
That said I was blown away with how good the graphics are, and this is coming from someone who has played on PC mainly the last few years. As a tech demo to show off how good the console can be there are none better.
Fortunately the game is super fun as well, and a very easy platinum if you want to get your trophy count up.
Would 100% recommend, especially as it has now dropped in price.

I was never a fan of ratchet but somehow I’m really enjoying this one.
The difficulty level is just right, I’m on the highest difficulty and it’s just perfect.
Graphics are phenomenal even though I choose performance mode which still looks amazing.
The only reasons I don’t give it 5 stars is that it could be longer and also the price is too high.

  23. DawnRuggiero says:

Like don’t get me wrong when I say this the best part of the game is the graphics and the loading screen the gameplay is fun and I did have fun with it but I felt it was super easy Ik it’s a kid game but I replayed the game on the hardest difficulty and still felt it was a bit too easy for that difficulty, the guns with the new triggers is amazing and the villain/ villains were alright but the final boss was a bit annoying for me but all together a fun game but mainly play it for the ps5 hardware also the shipping was amazing next day

Visually stunning game, with good use of 3d audio and controller haptics. It’s cute, simple and good fun. Where other games feel more like a chore at times, this is easy to pick up and put down at will.

I’m new to the series after getting a PS5 and my only real criticism is that I enjoyed the PS4 Ratchet and Clank game more! The previous game felt (or was) brighter, which suited the tone of the game but what I really miss is the humour. There seems to be fewer quips in Rift Apart and it definitely misses the narration of Captain Quark – who seems to have been replaced by a different voice actor, a shame.

Overall it’s definitely an enjoyable game to play through but if you haven’t played Ratchet and Clank (2016) give that a go first.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIn many ways the full the first proper PS5 release ( I don’t count Godfall). Ratchet and Clank is a fantastic game and relaly does take the opportunity to show off the PS5s power and speed . The instant transportation between worlds is fantastic with the first hour of the game really showing you what the console is capable of (and it’s still early days).

Insomniac are the masters at making great single players game and despite the Covid pandemic which seems to have faltered so many others have instead been able to produce three stellar games (miles Morales and Spider-Man remastered being the other two). The game flows well, looks great, has tremendous voice acting and lots of humour and in my play through absolutely no glicthes. Ratchet, Clank and Rivet will have you smiling for hours .

It’s Ratchet & Clank (& Rivet)! Undeniably my favourite series on PlayStation & therefore bound to get Five Stars But, “Rift Apart” is NOT my favourite game of the series. Why? Well, first of all, the game doesn’t follow the same, familiar pattern of previous episodes whereby our heroes begin their adventures on one or two “easy” planets before heading off to harder challenges. Rift Apart throws you into a chaotic battle right from the word go. Players new to the series may be confused as to who or what is happening during the first “chapter” & I definitely benefited from having refreshed my Ratchet & Clank knowledge by replaying the PS3 titles before commencing this new entry. Rift Apart is a direct follow on from “A Crack in Time” & “Into the Nexus” & makes references to these earlier titles.
The other little bug-bear I have is with the new rift-grabber. It’s a bit of a pain as is the option to travel from one dimension to another on each planet. The reason will become clearer when you play it &, I recommend you do, even with the few gripes I have.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is an incredible return for the iconic duo that’s fun, heartwarming and breathtakingly beautiful. The new characters are phenomenal and just as likeable as the originals. It doesn’t innovative a lot but it’s gameplay is reliably fun and responsive. The load times are basically non existent. It’s a solid length for its original 70 asking price.

Well worth waiting for. Having had a noisy PS4(the fan noise ! ) this game stretches the PS5 yet the machine is still silent. The game is as great as its predecessors, includes the usual upgrades to weapons when you play a second time on a harder level. Loads of secrets to find. SO a 5 star from me.

  51. RafaelPainter says:

     United Kingdom

Overally an enjoyable game to play but at best would score this 4 stars. Had really being looking forward to playing this but i was underwhelmed after finishing in less than 10 hours so abit of a ripoff at 80 euro. The story is rather dull in the middle and really lacked the witty genius of previous game. We are introduced to a new character in Rivet but for me she didnt bring anything new to game – was like playing with a cosmetic skin of ratchet. Same weapons and moves.

Graphics are very good as many of reviews callout but would disagree with reviews saying best in any game ever or best on PS5. Id have Spiderman, Valhalla and even Devil may cry 5 which ive played recently all better but its down to individual opinion i guess.

Overall , make sure you play this. Enjoyable game even if it doesnt really live up to 5 star hype

The graphics are amazing and you have 3 settings to choose your screen setting.
    Sound is all good.
Game itself is very enjoyable and entertaining but with lots of things to do and look for maybe a adult needs to play also not a 7 year old as ita too difficult when you get near the end.

  57. Anonymous says:

Gameplay 8/10 – loved the game but it didn’t feel that long to complete (10 hours). Wish there were a couple more levels to get that little more value for money. Side character bosses were absent and only had generic boss battles which was a shame. I enjoyed playing as Rivet but you can’t play as ratchet during the gladiator battles! Why not have the option!?

Graphics 10/10 – Beautiful, best looking game on PS5

Story 9/10 – Great addition to the franchise and love the new characters. Would’ve been nice to have seen more of the older characters though.

Look forward to the next chapter!

Price 5/10 – Sony is taking the mick if they think a 10 hour game (without playing challenge mode) is worth 60-70 quid. I honestly hope they reevaluate their prices for all ps5 games. I’ll never pay that! I hope it doesn’t become the norm!

Best looking game ever seen on console and a game that gives an early look at the PS5 hardware power, instant loading from the ssd is in incredible, from menu to in game in the blink of an eye. I played first on fidelity mode them 2nd run on performance and incredibly little to no difference or visual drop off. Gampeplay is a blast and the dualsense takes the weapons to new heights. This game was an absolute joy to play from start to finish. Being a critically acclaimed developer like Insomniac, you expect greatness and greatness is what you get.

Graphically, the game immediately has you picking your jaw up off the floor. The load times are incredible and both of these areas have been improved for the final product in comparison to the reveal trailer.

The story was fun to play through, the enemies are in my opinion some of the best and who couldn’t love the genius of whoever was in charge of creating the weapons previews?

I also found the ending to be exceptionally strong and left me feeling all giddy with how the story pans out.

In all, a stellar next-gen experience. An absolute must play not only for fans of the franchise but for anyone who’s been lucky enough to get their hands on the PS5.

Holy cow! It might look like a cutesy game but there is some great and classic gameplay in here. Once started you don’t want to stop. There is enough challenge to make it interesting but it does not require the brain of Stephen Hawkin. But it, play it, enjoy it. You won’t regret it.

  72. Anonymous says:

Great fun game, but at no point should you pay full price, it’s so short, and the arena is very basic- only 15 levels.
The weapons are fun, includes a RYNO, doesn’t include a sheepinator (etc), some of the weapons are very similar to each other, while others are refreshingly new to the series.
Story is predictable in parts, but, enjoyable overall.
As a R&C veteran, I completed my 1st play through in under 10 hours, and I’m nearly done with challenge mode, and all trophies, at 15hrs. Upgrading all weapons completely will likely take a bit more grind, but there isn’t 75 of gameplay here.

Ratchet & Clank are back! And this time new Lombax-girl Rivet is along for the ride in this dimension switching, planet hopping adventure. Collectables, Great writing and Cute fuzzy faces await!

This game was truly an incredible experience from beginning to end, on a 4K TV this is ‘the’ showcase for what the Playstation 5 is really capable of. With visuals on par with Pixar and the ability to switch entire worlds out near instantaneously, this is the first game to ‘really’ flex the power and speed of the PS5. It’s really impressive honestly.

A lot of people have issues with the new standard price of Playstation 5 games, but this is one of the very few PS5 games to actually be deserving of such a high cost and coming from me (some who is strict with his spending) there is no higher praise.

If you’re one of the lucky few to have a Playstation 5, I wholeheartedly reccomend Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apa

    A Modern Masterpiece

  75. FreddieSilas says:

Rift Apart doesn’t bring a whole lot of new to the table but it does bring a whole lot of fun and that’s what most of us are coming to R&C for. This is my first PS5 game so it was a whole new experience for me full of anticipation and scepticism.

The graphics are a good showcase of a next-gen step, with three options between performance and resolution. This also the drawback, however, as when I played for high-resolution the framerate really suffered and was hard to un-see, so I spent most of the game in the two performance modes. Having said that, seeing up to 60fps is a game-changer for me. Things feel so much smoother and more immersive. Since this is an early PS5 game, it will be interesting to see where things go from here. I was quite impressed with how well the fps held up when action became hectic on-screen.

The gameplay is very familiar to anyone who has played any R&C game before, for better or worse. What’s new is the dimensionator that is quite well advertised. In the game however, I found this a tad gimmicky, as it functions as a glorified grapple-hook most of the time. There are times when you do shift to another dimension and the loading times for this is amazing, but these are also scripted and are still welcome as they provide a refreshing experience as previous R&C games I always felt ‘stuck’ on a level until I completed it.

I give the game kudos also for accessibility, especially in terms of difficulty. Even on the easier levels there can be close calls with getting killed so this makes the game very appealing to a mass audience.

What grinded my gears quite a bit were the ‘mini-game’ sections where you play against the virus or as Clank navigating three consecutive puzzles. Doing this once is fine because it’s a break from the otherwise hectic action, but I ended up skipping Clank’s final puzzles (again thank you for accessibility!) as they were very tedious and irritating – basically a 2021 version of Lemmings.

It wouldn’t be R&C without the crazy guns, and here there were more than enough to keep me occupied, and levelling them up is a great mechanic to encourage me to use a variety. The Warmonger was probably my favourite due to its sheer power.

One very annoying thing I did notice is that when you get hit there is a stun animation which feels like it lasts forever in-game, really disrupting the flow of combat. I found this really irritating but I suppose there needs to be some consequence for getting hit, and the jetpack boots help make traversal more enjoyable.

The story of R&C finally takes a step outside the box here. While Rivet is almost identical to Ratchet, I still found it refreshing to hear different voice actors. I’ve always enjoyed the camp humour of R&C and Rift Apart is no exception. The game gives you a coherent story with purpose, motivation and payoff, ticking all the right boxes. Whilst having different versions of the same characters seems repetitive and cheap, it also prevents the game from overloading us with endless forgettable characters, although I was a tad disappointed to miss out on the plumber this time.

I think the game deserves special credit for not padding itself out with filler content. This wasn’t the longest adventure, but it also wasn’t one that bored me with grinding or endless fetch-quests.

Overall, Rift Apart doesn’t actually bring much new to the table but what it does right, it does very well. Despite some very familiar game mechanics and cardinal sins of gaming such as colour palette changes, the game actually manages to be engaging and enjoyable. Everything I love about R&C is here, although the price is something I do not like at all.

Absolutely amazing. Perfect ps5 game. Loving it so far. Great how it’s continuing off “into the nexus”. If any of you are a ratchet and clank fan, you need this game.

The game builds on the refined gameplay you expect from the series with new movement abilities for moving around battlefields and platforming, and lots of new weapons with only a handful of returning ones. The writing is a huge improvement from what the 2016 game gave us, with pretty funny and snappy moments and a surprising amount of character nuance and conflict that hasn’t really been explored much at all in the franchise. Veterans of the series or people with a good feel for games in general probably should play on the hardest difficulty setting with max enemy aggression if you want to get the most out of the combat. I’m not taking price into consideration when reviewing this and am judging it purely on it’s own merits like a few other reviews here I’ve seen. I mean why’d you buy the game in the first place if you think it’s too expensive?

The 70 can seem pretty steep but I would say that if you are a long-standing fan of the franchise, such as myself, that this game is easily worth the price. I am going to be playing through this multiple times as well as playing through the entire series again.

This is the first game I have played on my PS5 that feels truly next-gen. Aside from the visuals, the biggest reason for this is how the game utilises the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback reflects nearly all your action in game, whether it be walking or platforming or shooting. The varied tension of the trigger is also put to amazing use, allowing you to fire your weapons in different ways depending on how far down you’re pushing the right trigger.

The writing is not amazing in my opinion but it blows the 2016 Ratchet and Clank out of the water, which suffered due to being tied to the damn awful film that was released. The story is simplistic but effective in its own right.

I can see some reviews stating that they think the game is repetitive and boring. “Boring” is not a word I would ever use to describe this game, regardless of the price.

Im a long time fan of the series and its great to have them back. From exploring new planets, to a return of old ones, with a dimensional twist it felt nostalgic.

The power of the PS5 really shows in this game which explains the price of console games this generation, you can go from a hectic grindrail segment dodging debris and explosions, hopping through dimensions and rifts to return to chaos and transition into a cutscene without any loading times or a frame out of place, truly shows what a masterpiece insomniac have created. If you love R&C pick up this one when you can and don’t let the 2016 remake alter your opinion. Rift Apart is a fantastic continuation from into the nexus

Best game on PlayStation 5 so far, really impressive visuals, no loading at all. Doesn’t take long to complete, however I enjoyed it so much it doesn’t matter.

I will say I’m deliberately holding back from completing the game as I don’t want it to end so I’m just finding collectibles and grinding in the battle arena at the moment, easy game of the year for me , not just pretty but has the substance to back it up

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersThe game itselfis brilliant not perfect but brilliant, like many my problem is the price. Like all the others priced at 70 before and those that will be after this it is just a rip off, i dont by into this it cost more to make games rubbish (games for the most are getting shorter) also amazon have reduced it by 10 3 days later which clearly shows its just a preorder cash grab (wont be making that mistake again) worth a buy but wait until its around 40 i would say.

Absolutely amazing game. One of the best looking games I’ve ever seen. Really great fun to play and a fun story so far. 5 difficulty levels means it’s open to everyone.
Not sure how the other 2 reviews are allowed as both of them admit they have never played it!

The last “real” Ratchet and Clank game I played was in 2013 Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus on PS3.
Not including the remake on PS4 which was an utter disappointment. Sloppy cutscenes just cut straight out of the movie.
So 8 years I have been waiting for a Ratchet and Clank with a new story mode.

I was not disappointed, best game I have played on the PS5 so far.
Great graphics and fast seamless gameplay.

Won’t go into specifics as don’t want to leave any spoilers.

Is a bit pricey at 69 but well worth it!

I was a little unsure if I wanted to pay 70 for this but I did and I’m so glad . This game is awesome , it’s not really the sort of thing I play but I thought I would give it a go and it’s not disappointed me on all levels !!! It’s extremely well put together and to be honest it’s worth every penny . don’t listen to the wingers who keep crying because they can’t get a ps5 !! For those who have one this game is a great addition.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersRatchet & Clank return in this masterpiece of game design from Insomniac. If you’re fortunate enough to have a PS5 this should be in your game library. The flawless graphics and gameplay, combined with the signature cheeky (but kid-appropriate) humour of the series, make this an instant classic.

Disney Pixar and Dreamworks better watch out, because this looks better than any CGI movie you’ve ever seen!

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersI am truly delighted with this latest addition to the Ratchet and Clank story, which continues the story arc established with the PS3 (the PS4 story was a standalone game-of-the-film-of-the-game).
The improvement in graphics is instantly apparent: lighting effects and the rift mechanism that allows hopping into sub-dimensions are all awesome. Weapons take advantage of the new haptic triggers and are very intuitive. The new characters are great fun and very sympathetic, and the parallel universe Zurkon family had me in stitches.

One new feature I really like is the addition of a difficulty level (Explorer) where you DON’T TAKE DAMAGE. As someone whose reflexes are deteriorating, I can see this as a real godsend for people who love the story and the puzzles but aren’t great gamers.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWas so looking forward to playing this, graphics look so good from trailers. A brand new story to play through. It that where it stops. I prefer ordered this item due to be delivered today, but all I can do is look at it. See the greedy so and so’s that like to snap up all the stock of ps5 console disc version, have left true gamers, a lot of us without one. Part of the problem. And haven’t been able to get one since it was released back in November. I hope it won’t be long though before I can play this new adventure. It looks amazing.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThe level of graphical detail in the fun adventure is insane and you will have a blast playing as you find it hard to put down going from stage to stage with 0 load times thanks to the PS5’s super fast SSD. If you see anyone complaining about how this game is over-priced, trust me it’s worth the price.
