The microphone is very convenient does not need any batteries. I am using it for my YouTube videos and this sound quality is excellent. Must buy for anyone who wants to have a good audio in the camera and needs the convenience of no batteries and minimum sound distortion.

Very Versatile
The beauty of this microphone is in its versatility.
Plug it straight into USB for supreme-quality video calls, or high-quality podcast and voiceover audio.
Really I’d recommend it to anyone who regularly speaks online.
Or plug it directly into to your camera for good middle-distance directional sound.
It even makes for a competent boom mic.
A transformer is required to run it on XLR phantom power though. That’s something I’d like to see built-in with version 3.
Vesatilidad
I had the VideoMicro before and whether it was the plug or something wrong with the unit, it never connected properly. This VideoMic Go II is excellent! Crisp sound. Love the fact that the mount supports it on the front and the back so that it doesn't teeter-totter. It's also very excellent for video calls with the free Rode desktop app where the levels can be adjusted. Lastly, the fact that it doesn't need any batteries makes it very portable and can be used in many situations on-the-go. Best audio purchase ever!

I bought this mic specifically for iPhone 13. The 3.5mm connection works fine, so I bought SC15 cable to make use of the type-c to lighting connection, only to find out that the iOS built-in camera app won’t adjust the gain properly and the volume is very low.
Two in one
Functions as a shotgun mic on location and a usb mic at home. Really good 88 quid.
Amazing
It’s a great mic
It has amazing audio quality, and if you connect it to a PC the software is really easy to use,
Highly recommend it.
Rode è una garanzia

Firmwareupdate usw.
Firmwareupdate:
Amazing product it sounds really like a NTG but you pay really less

Decent and easy-to-use directional USB mic.
Tried out and returned a couple of low-end USB mics (Bl*e) for recording voice tutorials/live instructional videos in a room. The Rode VideoMic GO II was a clear improvement, rejecting more room noise/low frequencies than the cardioid settings on the other mics.
Really easy to use for podcasting – mic>USB>Laptop>DAW. No perceivable latency.
This mic is not comparable to a pro shotgun mic, but it’s cheap, small and effective for home recording. Probably okay for video production, but I’d put it on a boom or use it as a backup on the camera audio. Definitely better than built-in camera mic on a DSLR.
Buen precio y buena calidad. Muy recomendable.
Rode mic
Good mic, but finding it difficult to source a cable to connect to iPhone, seems to be a world shortage
It's great for content creation and calls
The sound quality is great + having the option to connect with RodeCentral turns it, practically, into the VideoMic NTG. 🙂
One thing to know though is that it doesn’t come with the SC18 cable. So make sure you add it to your cart when you get it so it works with your comp. 🙂
This Mike is a game changer. I had to he video mic pro which was large and bulky and needed a battery and turning on. This thing has a superb pick up pattern and has a really good signal and frequency response. Sadly it is not in use at the moment as the expensive sc-15 lead I bought to use with it broke the first time I used it leaving half the plug in the phone. Shame they don’t make leads as well as they make mivs
It sounds just great, on par with high quality 100-150 USB mics on the market. Has a strong proximity effect – produces more bass and sounds like a radio DJ when close to a sound source. Super cardioid pattern doesn’t prevent it from picking sound from the sides.
I have always liked Rode products but this one initially was a disapppintment. Used on my JVC camcorder as an input to Zoom meetings I get a horrible hum or hiss.I followed suggestions re sound setting on camera. Also tin foil around curly cable. Tried a different cable, turned wifi off on camera. I then replaced the supplied cable with a high quality double shielded one and this cut out the hiss..But still a horrible hum. It turned out to be due to interferance on the mains circuit. As the mic is powered from the camera it seems that a dirty mains circuit can affect it. When the laptop and camera were both run off mains the hum stopped. Trouble for me is recording session can go beyond battery limits. In my case the culprit was an older freezer on the premises. I have now tried a differnt mains socket and that cured the problem. Also I started using a boom pole and finally getting good results. So if him and hiss is problem try turning off wufi on camera, use manual level, try good quality double shielded cable, if using mains power try different socket. Hope this helps.
Great sound but lacks directionality
I’m very happy with this microphone. I had tried to do my research but being rather a novice I wasn’t completely sure if it would work with my obsolete Panasonic HDC-SD90 camcorder but it works a treat! Arguably it works a little too well as it picks up the sound of camera whirring when mounted to the shoe adapter, but I anticipated that and purchased an extension cable so that the mic can be positioned separately. The pickup pattern is less directional than I had expected, but the sound quality is great. Amazon suggests I talk about “sheerness” but I don’t know what that means so: no comment. Because of Covid protocols I haven’t been able to really put it through its paces in the big wide world yet but I feel confident that it’ll do me proud. This is my second Rode microphone alongside SmartLav+ and I’d say they’re a trustworthy brand with quality products at respectable prices compared to the rest of the field.
After reading various reviews I decided on this microphone for my Canon EOS M50. The mic is light weigh and improves the sound quality on my camera. There is a noticeable difference from the onboard camera sound to the sound after attaching the mic. A 3.5 mm jack and cable is supplied to attach the microphone to any camera with a 3.5mm mic input. The quality is a bit plastic in places but it is a really good value and capable mic. It attaches easily and securely to a cold shoe mount. The other great thing about this mic is that it doesn’t require batteries, so there’s one less thing to worry about. This is not a pro mic but it’s a good value microphone that delivers a much better sound quality than the inbuilt camera mic.
Very nice quality microphone. Definitely sounds clear on the final edit. A windshield is a must though if you wish to record in the UK outdoors. Without one, the wind noise causes some serious clipping very easily. The overall fit and finish is nice though.
One thing that is annoying is Rode’s choice to use a different side screw inside the hot-shoe mount so you have to use their proprietary boom adapter. A way around this is a cheap eBay special 1/4″ to cold-shoe adapter so you can use the mic with a monopod etc. Obviously you’ll need an extended 3.5mm cable too. Decent value though and seems to work well. Bear in mind that this mic isn’t amplified, however, so any mains interference near to the microphone can be easily picked up, especially if you use an extended cable.
Great Shotgun Mic for a reasonable price
By now you’ll have noticed that the built in recording function on your camera or device sounds terrible and you’re looking to improve the quality of you’re production. The biggest appeal of this model is the fact that it has no battery. You simply plug it into your recording device (camcorder, dslr etc.) and your ready to go hence the name. There are advantages and disadvantages to this but it’s up to you what you’re after. For me it’s been an awesome addition to my home setup so i’m not fussed. With that said here are some of the pros and cons.
PROs:
-The mic itself is very light, has a sleek design and can fit into your back pocket.
-It comes with a lengthy 3.5mm jack which you can connect direct to your dslr and it’ll start working.
-The mic is attached to a shock absorption stand that reduces noise and vibrations and can be attached direct to a hot shoe mount.
-The sound quality pre-processing is great for the price and has a decent frequency response range with background noise.
CONs:
-The design of the mic means it protrudes at the back so its not level with camera. Wouldn’t say it’s a big deal but if you’re looking through the view finder odds are its going to bonk you on the forehead.
-Has no built-in pre-amp, battery or high pass filter, hence why you can get interference, noise and the sound quality is slightly lower at the same level as more advanced rode models.
-You have to purchase an SC7 cable if you want to use with an iphone or android phone.
– Can get interference if dslr wifi is on so switch it off before use.
Overall i’m pretty satisfied with the mic it’s been with me for a while and I’ve always had it connected to one of my cameras or phone recording content even after getting better mics. I’m aware of some complaints about hisses, clicks and interference but to summarise all of those issues are the result of the camera or lens and it’s internal settings. Simply switching to manual mode get’s rid of all those problems. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone getting started.
Cheap but decent video mic!
I’ve used most of the Rode video mic ranges, I’ve always found the video mic PRO very noisy which also has to use a pp3 battery to work. This lower end videomic GO mic however, is completely passive (no battery needed), but there’s a caveat with that it’s not as bright or deep sounding, but does seem a bit cleaner with noise flaw. Sonically, the mic sound itself is ok for running and gunning on a ‘behind the scenes’ documentary style shoot, but spoken voices always sound a little harsh in the mid range, and it lacks top end frequency sparkle and low end warmth. So, with a bit of EQ that’s easily remedied. Overall a solid mic, which is very affordable compared to the other video mic Rode ranges. Please note this mic is also MONO, not stereo.
I’ve just had this delivered and tried a few videos with it around the house with kids on my canon m50. It definitely makes a difference providing richer sound. There are sound comments about clicking in the background. Firstly, I made sure I changed sound settings to manual so it’s not too sensitive. The videos I’ve now exported and played on both an iPad and TV and sound have come up perfect. Therefore, if in doubt make sure you set up the camera first and it will then work great for you. Definitely recommend it.
I mostly take photographs but there are a few things where video works best so I wanted an external mic to minimize interference from wind and focusing noise, this mic was the right price and came well recommended.
I’ve found it light weight and easy to use with my Canon EOS 6D mk2, I can leave it on and it doesn’t interfere with stills photography, the instructions don’t seem to tell you but if you undo the cross head screw underneath the mount (see picture) you can place the mic in three positions, fully forward works best for me as it doesn’t get in the way when looking through the viewfinder.
This is not an expensive mic so don’t expect studio quality sound, just an improvement over the built in mic in directionality and eliminating wind and focusing noise.
I didn’t get the “Dead Cat” originally but found that the foam cover doesn’t do much in anything more than a light breeze, get them both at once if it’s cheaper, overall a good piece of kit.
Great sound. Using this product over a year now and I’m really enjoying it.
Side note anyone using a cannon plugging this in. Make sure you turn off your wifi on your camera. otherwise you sound quality will disto
How you rate a product depends to a large extent on your expectations. I read a lot of reviews on here about certain problems relating to hissing and interference from other equipment and even the cameras. However, this did seem to relate somewhat to the cameras rather that camcorders – or at least that was my impression.
Likewise, there was a potential wind noise problem around the cable connection point on the mike which I have a ‘dead cat’ for.
For me the major buying point was the ‘not having a battery’ because I have shot a lot of footage worrying about the battery in my mike, whether I have a spare and whether they will all last the day. It’s also another thing to remember..
Anyway, after my initial quick trial – I have a Panasonic HDC-SD900 Camcorder with which I shoot everything from concerts to Murder Mystery films – I am delighted to report that all has gone well. I don’t get any extraneous hiss or noise and although I haven’t had a chance to boom test it out doors I have tried the ‘blow’ test which has been good.
The sound quality seems fine. The internal mike on my Panasonic is pretty good but when filming scenes especially outside when using a boom then a decent mike is essential. This was not exceptional but was certainly adequate.
It means that I think that some of the extraneous noises people have been experiencing on cameras may be due to audio settings or just the way their camera operates?
For me and my camcorder this is just what I need. Like I say it’s all about expectations and needs..
I love this mic , great audio quality from such a reasonably priced microphone. Works well with my HC7 Sony camcorder and dramatically improved the sound quality. I have recently upgraded my camcorder to a FDR AX53 4K Sony camcorder So I have created a video with this review to show what the sound quality is like on the on board microphone on the camera and the rode videomic.
Sony HDR-HC7 High Definition Camcorder With 2.7” LCD Screen
Sony FDR-AX53 Ultra HD 4K Compact Camcorder (HD 5-Axis Balanced Optical SteadyShot, 20x Optical Zoom, Wi-Fi and NFC)
Update: I’ve done a few videos now, and this mic is really good. The hiss on the first couple of tests must’ve been some error on my part on the settings. It’s got a good audio range, lots of bass response, and now I’ve used it more, no hiss. Love it.
First impressions after a short period of testing, with the levels set on auto as suggested, there is hiss on playback. But I’ve tried another microphone from another manufacturer and that has hiss as well.
Other than that, it’s a doddle to fit onto the hot shoe and attaches nice and firmly – something I’ve had problems with other items in the past. The audio cable supplied looks to be good quality, though it’s rather short, however it does expand. I’ve yet to try it outside and can’t comment on the wind protection from the foam cover attached.
I would’ve preferred it to have some manual controls on the microphone, and to use its own batteries rather than drawing power from the camera.
I’ll write more when I’ve had more time to experiment with it.
So simple and easy to use. Connect into your camera with the 3.5mm jack and mount on the hotshot. Job done. The sound this mic picks up makes the in built SLR mic completely redundant and I now wouldn’t have it without. I make YT videos and do not need lapel mics because of this. Well worth the investment.
