I am on my second play through of this game. I used to own it on Xbox and wanted to relive it again on the PlayStation. I was very disappointed to learn that Rockstar do not include a physical map in the box anymore. I like to collect these and always thought it was a great feature to include. This is one of the best games I have ever played and would highly recommend this to anyone.

This has got to be one of the best games I,ve ever played,I was hesitant at first about buying it as I just thought it was just a cowboy game but it so much more than that,i wish i had brought it earlier,I choose to have different save games for arthur,so I can be a bad arthur or a good arthur, the graphics are brilliant, and the dialogue between the characters and arthur,s antagonist character is so funny ,the game can take up to an hour and half to install but it,s worth the wait, and I have a spare game incase I wear this one out,a beautiful game

Classic game. Better have no life though because it lasts forever and you’ll never finish it if you’re a popular person with stuff to do. Better have a very big hard drive also on your playstation because it’s stupidly big really.

This is by far my favourite game ever played.

The story mode is excellent and interactive. You can have various choices with different outcomes.

There is loads of side missions to do as well as many challenges.

If you buy this game you will lose days as it is very good.

I am not a fan of GTA games but for 10 I think this game is worth it. Graphics are great but the game is a slow burner like watching a western. Action kicks in when you reach the open world section.

Fast delivery. Arrived in perfect condition. Brilliant game to play. 100% recommend buying this game. 5 STARS

Following after the success of Rockstar’s other title Grand Theft Auto V. Red Dead Redemption takes it up a few steps. As open world games go, it’s an absolutely beautiful world of a game. Full of things to do and people to see. As you play as outlaw Arthur Morgan, the vast world really feels more like a simulation than a game. Where even shooting people and animals makes you feel bad at times, so much detail and places to explore. There is always new experiences to be had, and how you play the game affects your reputation.

As you ride on horseback through the snow plains, to the marsh lands, to the swamps and to the modernization city of the world west. You really will love what this game has to offer.

Can’t understand some of the negative reviews. This game is absolute class. It builds at the right pace rather than just jumping straight into mindless violent action. This emphasises and builds the relationships between all the characters. Some say there’s too much riding – well you can automate it and make a cup of tea and come back and you’ll have arrived at the start of your mission.

Long rides with other characters are never boring, as they will inevitably lead to conversations that add to the overall story. I loved GTA but this might just be even better.

There are some bits that are probably unnecessary to the time-pressed game player. For example, the survivor/herbalist/hunter etc challenges, the “legendary” animals, collecting pelts etc. But just enjoy this game for what it is. Do as many or as few of the extras as you want. It’s a beautiful world and a great story rather than just “kill as many zombies as you can as fast as you can”. But the shootouts when they happen are fun too.

Totally recommended, and in my opinion more rewarding than other hyped games for example God of War, which is good but not great.

What can I say that wasn’t said before? nothing probably. This game is a must. If you own a ps3 and you haven’t played with the first installment, I recommend playing that first as this game is the prequel to that and you’d miss a lot of references whilst playing this game. Unfortunatelly that game is not compatible with the ps4. RDR2 is really one of the best games out there (if not the best…I leave it up to you) that gives you many many hours of deep story in a free roam living virtual world with stunning graphics. Absolutely recommended.

This game dares to do things differently, and on its own terms, within an RPG open-world genre that’s littered with really amazing examples like Zelda BotW, and Witcher Wild-Hunt, and Fenyx Rising to name just a few. But this is something else entirely, because Rockstar Games have thrown out the manual and decided to do it their own way. It’s slow, it’s methodical, it goes deep — in short, this is immersive design and game-play of the very highest quality. The characters are fun and interesting. The story plots are neat. The world feels astonishing and we’ll crafted. It’s a beautiful game.

And I don’t disagree with some of the reviewers who say it’s too slow or missing action — but they clearly haven’t invested enough time in the details, because I was feeling that way until it all clicked into place, and then it sprawled with action and tasks and adventure. Not to mention the AWESOME posse co-op more I play with my mates online waste even more hours.

This really is an ‘event’ gaming title. A rare moment where a load of very talented people come together to tackle something BIG.

This game is fantastic. Roaming around the wild west on horseback and doing missions that play easily as well as any of the top rated Rockstar Games classics. So immersive. Some will not like the hunting and fishing that has to be done to keep you and your gang alive and it would be even better if you could fast travel around the world like other big world games. It would also be good if you could change your avatar.

I got this to try on PS5. It plays very well, with good graphics and sound.
Gameplay is a bit tedious, though, with lots of trips on horseback to and from camp. You need to get fast travel as soon as you can, but the places you can go are limited, and a bit obscurely referenced to the map, rather than a shown location you can scroll to.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhere to start with Red Dead Redemption 2, this beautiful masterpiece?

The rolling hills. Sumptuous scenery. Watching as the sky turns to night, meaning you, Arthur Morgan, get to wander around the campsite as you watch the flames from the fire flicker, and laugh as your campmates sing campfire songs – you may get approached by the odd person, while you refresh your cores with a bowl of stew. Perhaps you fancy trimming your beard, or a game of five-finger fillet with Lenny, before morning breaks, and you head off on your trusty steed for another adventure?

In short, this game is epic. A masterpiece. In a year of lockdown, I have been looking for the ultimate escape – and this journey across 1899 America and the end of the Wild West era is everything I had hoped for and more. The scenery as you gallop across acres of land is truly breath-taking. Just stop and admire the view. Give your horse a pat. My most recent mission involved me breaking a person out of jail. I’d just shot the local shopkeeper, which seemed a daft decision, when the law started hunting me down. But after the entire town descended on us, and we became wanted, dead or alive – we basically had to pepper bullets into everyone, and ride hell for leather to freedom. This made my earlier murder seem trivial by comparison. And I’ve been trying to be a good soul, honestly, the body count doesn’t bear thinking about.

I’m only 20 or so percent into the story so far, but I will remember this game for ever. Another mission involved me dragging a mate into a bar in town – the end of the night resulted in fisticuffs, and my character drunkenly stumbling up stairs, as I lost him in the bar. I saw everything in first person, as he crashed into everything, confusing every other person in sight.

As I mentioned before, I shot a shopkeeper, only because my controller gave me that as the only option – generally I have found helping people to be more fun i.e. with medical aid. Perhaps I shouldn’t have shot him! Perhaps you could go crazy, and kill everyone in sight. I’ve still managed to get a bounty on my head as it is; sometimes it’s just too tempting to loot the odd random stranger. But this game feels like an epic novel – each delve into my gaming session is another chapter – what awaits me at my next turn. (Ironically, it would help if I stopped pressing the wrong button and opening up my journal every flaming second). Failing that, if you don’t fancy getting on your horse, sit by the fire and cook some deer before settling down for the night under the stars.

A truly, incredible, immersive experience. I never want Red Dead Redemption 2 to end. I need a few days breather after each mission. Arthur Morgan has become my link to Wild West America and I look forward to each and every outing. Just need a sit down by my bed for a bit, watching the night sky…

The greatest game I've ever played, phenomenal.

I won’t give a full review as sure if you’ve made it to RDR2’s Amazon page, you already know what’s up.
RDR was (and remains) one of my favourite games so I was super, crazy excited for RDR2 – however this game is meaty and really took up too much space on my PS4. There are a lot of mechanics in this game that really took realism a bit too far (e.g. hunting) which made some parts a bit tedious for me. Ultimately this is an absolutely fantastic and brilliant game, don’t get me wrong, but I think personally I still prefer the first game – if you’ve got the space to install RDR2 though, please do give it a try and don’t be dissuaded by my minor gripes.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve not really played video games for years. I recently got a PS4 and this was the first game i bought. Wow. It is, simply, extraordinary.

You play a member of an outlaw gang, on the run from a robbery gone wrong. You start high in the mountains, snowed in but safe. Then as the thaw comes you move down into more hospitable land. This is when the game comes alive. The scale and detail of the world is extraordinary. You can go pretty much anywhere, do pretty much anything, There are characters all over the place. Some will just say good morning to you, others might try to rob you, yet more will give you missions (finding dinosaur bones, rare plants and the like). There are loads of missions, loads to do. Enough for dozens – hundreds? – of hours of play.

    And yet.

The doing is not the point of this game. Being is the point of this game. You get to spend time in the wild west, just as it starts to get tamed. The first time I visited the large town that has electricity and trams I was shocked. I was so used to the spit and sawdust of Valentine. You get horses and need to bond with them, feed them, groom them. You need to provide money for the camp so everyone can eat, and you need to eat yourself. You travel across a stunningly beautiful world. You leave footprints in the snow and mud. When it’s cold, you can see your breath and you need to put on a warm coat. You can kill and skin animals to feed the camp. You can cut your hair, buy new clothes, shave. You can be friendly or nasty. You can help people or kill them and loot their bodies. It’s amazing, immersive and utterly compelling and absorbing. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. You should buy it. Now. And play it for weeks. The scenery alone is worth the price of admission.

The best one line review of it I saw just said “It’s like Rockstar decided to move a video game version of Deadwood”. It’s that good.

So emotional. The game makes you really connect with the characters. The story is so good. The detail in the open world and the npcs are great. Everything rockstar has learnt had been put into this game. Don’t read up on the game. Avoid spoilers and enjoyyy.

This is a great game from the story to the graphics, from the open world to the music. The story follows Arthur Morgan, a gunslinger, and his gang at the end of the period of the wild west, it is fun yet emotionally heavy as well. In the game, you can choose whether you want to be a law abiding citizen or if you want to murder and steal at every corner. Whatever you choose, you are guaranteed a fun time. Well worth the around 20 pound price point.

  32. lucas_tx says:

It’s still as brilliant as it was at launch, and RDR Online is much better than GTA Online, meaning the players are a much better community, and it’s not all “kill each other on sight”, and you can chill and hang out, with mostly no worries.

I often sell a game if I’m in need of cash, but I always buy it back, and this is often at the top of my list, if I don’t already have it.

    Still so incredible.

The game is reasonable — beautiful to look at with pretty visuals.. Areas of open greenery contrast with a nice a industrial cities. I dont think we have ever found an open world this expansive and one that feels lived in. Outside that though, the campaign feels drawn out and doesn’t feel particularly interesting story — lots of middle aged men cat fighting and a lack of gravitas beyond that. If you can look over the overlong campaign there are lots of pleasures to have.

Beautiful, lots of content — even if the plot is not that interesting.

This game is most likely one of the greatest games I have ever played! I highly recommend it for both veteran players of the original Red Dead Redemption and even new players. The story is very interesting and action packed and along with the game play mechanics which adds to the immersion to the game, not to mention the protagonist of the game is very lovable from the first few minutes!

Definitely get this game if you like story open world games!

    The Game came on time.
I first played this on Xbox One so thought I’d get it for Ps4. This Game as a great story very emotional it will make you smile,Laugh,Cry. Yes I said Cry this was the the second game I ever got that emotional I cried the other was the beginning of a the Last of Us part 1. Great story writing some tedious fetch quest missions and the hunting can be frustrating over all this is a 9/10 would be 10/10 but the epilogue let’s it down and wanted a few story DLC which we never got like a DLC on what happened in blackwater and see the other gang members who died off screen. I can talk hours about this game it’s that good. Buy if you haven’t played it…

Take a while to get into the game (i.e. getting past the prologue), but after that it’s a beautifully crafted single player experience.

Don’t bother with online, though. Full of griefers and almost nothing to do. Rockstar is clearly focusing on GTA online and Red Dead online is devoid of content in comparison.

This game is very entertaining and there is SOOOO much to be done. But the main draw back is this game is horrificly slow, painfully slow at places. But if you can get over that it is such a great game, with an epilogue to continue the bridge between this and the first game.

For me this is one of the best games around, if you like more fast paced games like GTA or Call of Duty then this may not be for you. The graphics and scenery are stunning and the world is massive with lots of missions to do. The story is quite nice and interesting as it shows the decline of the old American frontier. As other reviews state it can take a while to travel around from A to B when doing missions but as the scenery is so nice this only adds to the charm of the game. To sum up this isnt for everyone but unlike what some people say there is action in the game just at a slower pace which I found very enjoyable.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have reviewed a few Rockstar games on here and I always say, if the Rockstar logo is on the case, go and buy it. And that’s even more true for this title. Rockstar’s attention to detail is obsessive and the value that they give their customers is second to none. There is so much to see and do in this game that the majority of people that play it probably won’t discover everything. Each time you play something new and unexpected happens keeping you engaged. On my first play through I could not put the controller down, I played for 3 days straight. They have clearly worked extremely hard on every aspect and they deserve an enormous amount of credit for what I consider to be the best game every produced.

Having played the first red dead redemption almost a decade ago, I was skeptical of whether or not rockstar could replicate once more the lofty heights they soared to with the first instalment; but within the first 10 minutes of playing I was blown away. The game is truly a labour of love and is stunningly, painstakingly crafted. Everything about the game is brilliant, from the riding and shooting to the scenery to the gripping story. 10/10

Everything from the soundtrack music, small details graphics dialogue it’s all on point. Not only that it takes you back to those days the history of America the good bad and ugly. I’ve always been a gamer and my fav games are the last of us, Skyrim, uncharted’s, dying light, fallout’s, Witcher and so on. So you know I have good taste! This game is just brilliant, I spent WEEKS on this doing side missions, main missions and everything. What a great time to be alive, the graphics were fantastic, the story had me hooked, so much to explore, the characters were amazing. I could go on and on about how much of a SICK game this was, just BUY it. Have a look at some gameplay if you are unsure, but honestly… don’t be unsure. BUY IT. DO IT.

As someone who does not play many video games over the past decade, I was surprised and impressed with how vast and diverse this game is. Very immersive experience, with hours of side missions and other activities. Not to mention the main plot of the game which has changed my stance on story narratives in video games.

The environments are breathtaking, giving a real Wild West feel to the whole experience. I have not played the original, so I can’t compare it to that. However I recommend this game highly to those who enjoy open world games.

If you commit crimes you get negative rating, if you’re a good law abiding citizen then you’ll get a positive rating, either way you go effects the game ending from what I’ve been told. Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’ve never really been interested in this type of game before, Im more FPS games like CoD etc. I saw the 1st RDR game and wasn’t interested even a little. I just thought it was another silly cowboy game that I had no interest in. I bought it for my fiance as he wanted it and that was that. After a few hours of him playing it I found myself keep stopping what I was doing and watching. 5 mins would become 10 then half an hour would become an hour I just found myself engaged in the story and the characters. So I decided I was going to give it a go. I’m so glad I did I absolutely loved it.

The graphics are stunning and you can choose to play in either 1st or 3rd person. This game takes place before RDR. The story is about the gang before the original RDR and gives you a better idea of all the characters history prior to the original. In this one however you play as a character called Arthur, a friend of John and Dutch etc.

The game starts in the snowy mountains as you and the gang are on the run looking for a place to stay. This first chapter has alot of cinematics and cut screens. This helps you get used to the controls and game play. Riding horses, shooting, lasooing hiding from enemies etc if your not too familiar with this, this is helpful. The main story in this game is outstanding. It’s about being on the run and trying to make or steal enough money to find a safe place for you and your gang to call home. The game is full of twists and turns and ups an downs, one minute your robbing a bank with your gang and then at the opposite end your all riding out to get back a kidnapped child. It really is an emotional roller-coaster.

Aside from the main story the game has so much to offer. Around the map you will meet treasure hunters and you can buy or steal their maps. You can help a paleontologist find dinosaur bones, you can help catch a serial killer, you can help a very interesting traveller with his strange rock wall carvings. There are alien spaceships to be seen even a ghost train if your in the right place at the right time. There is a hidden giant you can talk too and plenty more surprises to be founds. You can even catch a vampire by following mysterious messages left on walls. Just to name a few. There is so much to discover and plenty of points of interest you will not get bored. Then on top of all that there are puzzles that reward you with gold bars. These are great for selling and can make you alot of money. You can fish and hunt too. These can be sold for money to but can also be used at the trappers hut for upgrades to clothing, health, stamina and even horse boosts. You can also donate animals/pelts to your camp for money, camp upgrades and food. Around the map you will find people you can play dominoes, five finger fillet, black jack or poker with for a bit of extra cash.

The game can be played with Arthur as a good guy or the bad guy or a little of both. You have an honour scale so you can see how different decisions affect your honour. How you play is entirely your choice, however if you choose to be bad (dishonourable) people are more fearful of you and stores charge you more for purchases. However being a good guy (honourable) will get you some nice discounts in stores around the towns. Different towns have different store types. Where you can top up on ammo, food, new clothes even fish bait. You also have the option to bathe. Your choice entirely, however bathing does increase your stamina. Food in this game is an important factor. Eat too much and you can become overweight, this affects stamina but increases the amount of damage you can take. Not enough food and you can move faster but you can take less damage. Or you can keep it average try to stay down the middle.

The game is fantastic, it’s brilliant, it’s beautiful and it’s emotional. It has been well thought out and well written. Even down to the choice of music. I absolutely loved it and I hope they make another one. It would be nice to go even further back to before this one. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, I did everything I could before the switch to Texas area until all I could do was continue the story. I completed the game and challenges 100% and thought the little cinematic at the end for 100% completion was a nice touch. A fantastic amount of playing time for the price.

We now have 3 copies of this in our house because nobody wanted to wait for someone else to stop playing. I highly recommend it to anyone. Brilliant game, just brilliant.

Thank you for reading my review and I hope this was helpful to you

I am in love with this game! It came super quickly and as soon as it arrived, I opened it and shoved it into my PS4 to play. I’ve been addicted ever since! I wish I got the game sooner as it is one of those games you simply have to play. The world is stunning and all the characters thus far are fun and feel real! Play it if you ever have the chance. You won’t be disappointed!

One of the best games you will ever play .. HUGE game .. Every time I thought the story was going to end … there was another ten hours of game play …. and more . Great story … great graphics .Amusing in places .. sad in others .. When a console game can make you feel emotional about the characters .. you know the writers have got it righ

Quite early on in the game, not long after I’d reached Horseshoe Lookout, I came across a stranger who needed assistance. His horse had spooked and broken free from his harness. Being the respectable outlaw that I was, I couldn’t refuse his pleas for help.

As I approached the startled animal, I went to raise my hand to calm the poor beast and accidentally shot it instead.

Thus began my Red Dead Redemption 2 experience, mostly consisting of accidentally shooting every living soul I encountered in a world full of breathtaking detail, packed to bursting point with beautiful and interesting things to accidentally shoot.

I really enjoyed this dangerously-clumsy-man-accidentally-shoots-everything simulator.

5/7 Would shoot that horse again.

great in depth story for anyone who loves the red dead series. tells the story of the van der linde gang up until the downfall of it all up until where red dead 1 takes place. the world is really life like and there’s always something to do whether it be helping npcs or going around hunting for the camp. might not be a game for everyone but it’s worth buying because of how well made it is and how much content you’re getting for your money. highly recommend!

just give this game a couple of hours to get used to it, then hopefully you’ll start to love it. such a vast open world with plenty to do besides core story missions. I got so many hours out of this game, completed it and have restarted it. Any game you play after RDR2 will probably feel pointless. I imagine it wont be until there’s a new Grand Theft Auto that there will be something comparable

I remember playing Red Dead Redemption when I was just 14 years old. The story was just incredible and left a mark on me.

Eight years later, and this game, which takes place in the decade prior to Red Dead Redemption, has blown me away. To think the story written into this game is made by the same people who write the stories of the Grand Theft Auto series, you would never know! I’d LOVE to see the story covered in both of the Red Dead Redemption games made into a movie!

Played this game a lot and thought it must be near completion but it’s only halfway. I’m not normally a fan of GTA series but I LOVE this game. Theres just so much to do and I’m only on story mode. Incredible value for money when you consider hours/

Hours and hours of fun and discovery. A great story, a prequel not hampered by the story told in the first game and a wonderful free roaming world where your behaviour is a large part of the outcome and story. Old enough to have played cowboys and indians (and rebs vs yankees) this had been a wonderful way to spend downtime these past 6 weeks or so. I haven’t even visited the online part yet!
