I paid 55 for this when it first came out the story mode is perfect 5/5 but the online is competitive/boring I’d say 2/5 I’d pay no more than 15 for this game

One of the most brilliantly created games I have ever played.

The story , both exciting and emotional , taken on its own would have been enough. Expanding this to the full world of RDR2 we are spoiled beyond belief with stunning visuals, mountains of well crafted and unique dialogue.

This diamond of a game will be lauded for years to come – and more than likely , it’s massive world will still be in a state of exploration by the average gamer in years to come.

This seems to be hit or miss based on reviews. For me, it was one of (if not the) best games I’ve ever played. I must admit, it took me some time to get into it but when I did there was no going back. The key is to play as if you’re Arthur Morgan…do the side missions, help your camp with chores/hunting/etc. and just take some time to roam about the land – some of my best times were during random encounters.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFreedom to to go / do what you want, or look after your small troop of ‘outlaws’ as they hunt + cook / drink / dance / Really talk and get to know one anothers lives, each one a fine crafted story of how this person ended up with’ Dutches gang’ and find work however they can…..You can be as sickeningly mean or as tough-faced without actually hurting ppl as you want – YOU Choose what kind of person…..And the more you play the more and more you realize there is to this game (Your appearance / cleanliness and clothing will change ppls opinions of you – and the bond you slowly form with your horse is a beautiful touch)
    – The private journal you write really lets you into the soul of this man who knows only this way of life, but is (can be) a good man….And how to square that? it’s really fascinating Human condition stuff, while still being a rip-roaring adventure!
……If you like you can spend 100s of hours just living the life of a cowboy outlaw, and there’s ALWAYS new things to find….Or just get a cabin in the woods and live as a hunter / trapper

RDR2 IS WORTH EVERY ACCOLADE IT RECEIVED – I LOVE IT, It’s not perfect, but what is when you have SO MUCH going on in the world all around you, whether you’re there or not (so it all feels REAL, not just revolving around YOU – The HERO player!) >:P

One thing I didn’t know the first time I played this was if you look at someone and press “Greet” you can get whole stories from everyone around you, and keep pressing ‘greet’ or ‘antagonize’ until you’ve found out ALL kinds of stories from your friends and even sometimes strangers in the streets…..Totally unadvertised feature that deepens the feeling of being there 10x for me……Just a tip…..Start again and use this on everyone around you!

10/10 Games don’t get better than this…….especially if you have any interest in the decline of the ‘Old West’

Rockstar has done it again, another brilliant game.
it’s the type of game that you can lose yourself in the open world. spend time treasure hunting or big game hunting or even just exploring the old west. there’s so much to do in this game you almost don’t have enough time for the main missions.

I love the game but I do wish I’d downloaded it as the disc spinning around is very very loud. Might be my PS4. The game play is visually stunning, the missions are very challenging as gives you options to progress after a few try’s so your not left in limbo should a mission proof too difficult. The interaction between the characters in the open world play is brilliant. It’s the kind of game you can dip in and out of but be aware, you will lose so much time playing as it’s so good.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWithout a shadow of a doubt, this game is leaps and bounds ahead of other games.
Rockstar have always led the way in massive open world RPGs, and when I heard the people who made GTAV were doing a western, I had to experience it, and that’s exactly what it is, an experience!
This is a massive, massive open world where you can pretty much do whatever you like.
Not only that, but certain NPCs remember your face and how you’ve treated them in passing or maybe they saw you commit a crime, but they’ll remember you for the whole game if you piss them off!
I’m 150 odd hours into one particular game, and I’ve still got the people of Valentine cussing me out.
This game is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest, and I’m not just saying that.
You can either buy a horse, capture a wild horse, or lasso some unsuspecting dude off of his one. But make sure nobody sees, or they’ll be off to the law to grass you up.

You can interact with literally everyone in the game. Some will have tasks for you as long as you don’t piss them off by robbing them.
Example; one of the first non-story, non-stranger side missions is an old guy trying to build a house with his sons just south of Valentine.
Keep popping in to say hello, and one time he’ll be under attack by O’Driscolls.
That’s your opportunity to jump in and help him out, but make sure you hold L2 and “INTERVENE” before you start shooting, or you’ll piss him off, and that’s the end of your friendship.
If you keep helping him, he’ll eventually ask you for timber, and that actually plays into another side-mission that isn’t technically a mission.
That’ll be where they’re felling trees.
Look for the white blip on radar, they’re characters that you can interact with to a certain extent, and your demeanor and actions will dictate whether or not they ask for your help, or tell you to get off their land before they shoot you.

There’s also the legendary animal hunts where you look for clues and track rare animals for their pelts.
The actual missions obviously that range from going to a party, to playing poker on a steamer, to robbing banks, trains, anything with money.
The story is driven along by Arthur’s (or Dutch’s) gang, who “help people that need our help, feed people that need feeding, and kill people who need killing!”
You could easily put 150 hours into a single run of this game if you were going for 100%
I lost entire days playing this when I first got it.

So that I found really interesting. These missions aren’t really worth a lot, loyalty and small rewards, but it just shows how much time and energy went into the maki g of this fantastic game.
One thing I will say, I really enjoyed the first 4 chapters, then things started to feel a little bit odd. I suppose it’s supposed to, but I found myself losing a bit of interest towards the final missions, actually it’s a bit before that, but I won’t leave any spoilers.
Let’s see what GTA6 brings, because it’s got lofty standards to meet now.

    If Carlsberg made PS4 games......

Brilliant. I initially thought I’d find the game boring prior to buying it but boy was I wrong. Great story, characters, music, open world, graphics….The detail, in not only the graphics but also in how much you can interact in the world, is crazy. I’m on my second play through and I’m still discovering new details and side quests. The most believable, interactive and stunning world ever created for a game.

My only criticisms would be the game mechanics aren’t the best. It’s very difficult to aim a gun without auto aim on, and walking/running around at times is clunky and awkward.
Also there are frame rate drops (I’m using the basic PS4, not Pro) at times, especially when entering a city or town.

But these are minor imperfections in what is an instant classic.

  9. KristiaMaxie says:

Red Dead is perhaps the most cinematic game, and the detail in which Rockstar have fleshed out the characters in the Van der Linde gang is exceptional. The graphics are phenomenal (though I’ve heard Rockstar recently released a batch of updates that have somewhat lessened this for ease of online loading), and the story leads to shocking conclusions and places, with brilliant development. However, there is an incredible give and take with this game in terms of how accessible and ‘fun’ some elements are. It focuses so much on realism that sometimes the game forgets to let the player have fun. If the experience was more streamlined, it would perhaps be a five-star experience. But in a year that included such games as God of War and a remastering of Shadow of the Colossus, it’s tough to give this game the love that it sometimes deserves, because other times it really makes you struggle through it.

RDR2 is a ground-breaking and immersive game. It is beautifully atmospheric and has an unbelievable level of detail, so much that the average player will not come across half of it during a play-through. I will always love open-world games, and RDR2 shows the rest of them how this should be done. I genuinely laughed out loud when I realised I had the choice to heckle at the theatre. I have never played a game like this where I could happily wander around on my horse and just see what the world threw at me. Some of the ‘100%’ achievements were next to impossible, but as there is demand for you to do these, it is not a problem, as you can just ignore them and enjoy the aspects of the game you like.

Aesthetically this game is absolutely stunning. Hands down the most beautiful video game ever made. It will make you say ‘wow’. The story is fantastic, long enough to keep you entertained for hours, and it’s immersive. You can tell years of hard work went into this game. Rockstar are just phenomenal. Red Dead Online isn’t ready yet to be honest. We naturally compare it to GTA and it’s just nowhere near as fun. Much less things to do. This will change over time, but for now, it won’t appeal to many. All in all though this game is absolutely worth buying if you have a PS4. I bet the PC version looks much more beautiful if you have a decent graphics card.

  12. NigelBatts says:

I love the imersiveness of this game. The scenery is fantastic, the horse riding thoroughly enjoyable and the cut scenes incredible. I am only in Chapter 3, having played for hours, because I keep being distracted. I usually want to rush stuff but this is a game I want to play slowly and explore thoroughly. My only drawback is that I am useless at shooting things, so the hunting gets a bit frustrating and picking small objects up can be difficult when Arthur becomes a bit uncontrollable. However, well worth the money.

  13. ErnestiMing says:

Great game! Slow buildup, like the cutscenes in the beginning are long. The shooting mechanics are great. The story line is decent. The main character is AWESOME, Arthur Morgan really grows on you ::’)

It does make my PS4 fan sound really really loud, which is annoying. Game took me 3 months to finish, definitely a worthwhile investment of entertainment.

  14. BarbaraIrvin says:

The game is technically amazing. The story is good and there is a lot to do. And that could be the problem. Movement is so slow and searching is animated every time with no way to skip. It also has the strange rockstar way of moving where a button makes you go faster rather than just using the analogue stick. The truth is that this is a must have gave for the PS4 just as gta V was and gta VI will be. It may not be the most fun game but in many ways it is one of the beat examples of games as an art form.

  15. Anonymous says:

Worth playing overall but the mission types haven’t really evolved and improved since the old GTA games. Also the long animations for most things may get jarring eventually.

Lastly, I’m not a huge fan of this modern realistic “you can only hold 3 guns” thing that games are doing these days, Max Payne 3 had it and so does this game. I miss the old rockstar games where you could hold every single gun you have and switch between them whenever you want to.

There’s so much to do in this game, it’s amazing! I was a little concerned it was going to be too slow because of some complaints from others but personally I thought the pacing was fine – certainly, I was never bored. Also possibly the first open-world game I’ve played where I didn’t use fast-travel once I unlocked it (aside from taking a train once or twice). Great fun, highly recommend it.

Bought this for my husband for Christmas. He’s not particularly a gamer though likes to play the odd one or two. He loves this, plays it in most of his spare time, and our 18yr old son has now declared him to be a “gamer”! Our 15yr old daughter is also playing it under her own account, and also loves it! It’s brilliant! I’m not playing it, but really enjoy watching the story unfold. Graphics are superb, and the fact the player has to look after the character and horse, i.e. feed, wash, shave etc. is very realistic. Highly recommend.

One of the best games I’ve ever played. From gorgeous realistic graphics, well voiced characters, to the immersive landscape and breathtaking storyline that sucks you in the minute you start the single player campaign. It’s just amazing. Not to mention the many, many characters and side activities you can do in this game, you’ll be busy exploring more than actually engaging in the story campaign. Rockstar has done it agai

It took eight years for Rockstar to make a sequel (or rather a prequel) to the excellent Red Dead Redemption, but it was worth the wait. What a game. I was gripped from beginning to end. Arthur Morgan is such a fascinating character, honestly more interesting than John Marston. The open world is so big and full of things to do. Visually, it’s stunning. The story really does a great job of showing how John and Dutch became the men they were in the first game too. I can’t honestly find anything negative to say about the game. It is definitely the best game of its generation. After GTA V, Rockstar have somehow succeeded in outdoing themselves once again. Essential if you own a PS4.

This game is simply amazing. I loved Arthur’s character and its development throughout the game. Gorgeous graphics and music. My only complaint is the controls, I really disliked them so sometimes I would get a bit frustrating. And bear in mind that it’s a long game so it would be unlikely to finish it in a few days, not if you have a busy schedule during the week.

If, like me, you’re tired of the online-only buddy games where you are forced to work together for no real reason and you need a story to keep you invested, then this game is perfect. Rich storytelling, a vast world that changes with the choices you make, a HUGE storyline that actually makes you feel invested in the characters and their lives. There are hours and hours of gameplay here. It’s beautiful to wander through, or just to get lost in a stumble across some task that will later impact on your gameplay. Fully immersive and brilliant fun. THIS is a game you don’t mind paying almost 50 for. it’s worth it. (note: You can play this without having played the first game).

I have given this game a little time before reviewing. I say a little time I think I’ve lost 2 weeks, lucky for me all my friends have been doing the same. However the girlfriend left and took the cat, I’m going to miss that cat. Back to the review, this game is tremendous, so much to do, from treasure hunts to saloon brawls, the story is fantastic and the graphics are beautifully done. This really feels like heart and soul has been put into it and when playing you feel like you are part of something special. I would say it’s a little easy having got to chapter 4 but I expect this will get tougher. If you buy just remember to look after your horse, you can get very attached and I have had some emotional moments when carelessly galloping around the cliffs.

I can’t really add too much more to what others have said. I think it’s a great game with a very good story, decent characters, it looks good and there is plenty to do. There are a few minor issues here and there with some clunky movement, weird controls and a near nonsensical inventory system but these minor issues don’t detract from the overall experience. I’m a big GTA fan as well but RDR2 is probably Rockstar’s best game.

I have not played Online so have nothing to say about that.

Superb game. Best I have played in a long time.

So much depth and so many random encounters. Storyline is brilliant with a genuine heartfelt ending to it. Couldn’t recommend this enough.

My main advice would be to play through steadily and enjoy all it has to offer. I did very little hunting and not enough exploring first time through. I’m now playing through again and there’s so much that I missed!

Can’t imagine many people who wouldn’t enjoy this game. If you’re on the fence, don’t hesitate get it. You won’t regret it.

Delivered in great time and good quality.
The game itself is fantastic, if you’re looking for (what I would consider) a relatively authentic cowboy/ outlaw experience this game is the one.
Personally I never had any issues with bugs apart from times I randomly fell off my horse.
Kept me entertained for days and I still haven’t finished it fully. The story is great and fits in perfectly with its predecessor.
    Would recommend to any gamer.

  27. Jon Skillings says:

Following the disappointment of BF5 and Fallout 76, thank god Rockstar have put EA and Bethesda to shame. The graphics are good, the landscapes are stunning, and the depth they have given to the open world is awesome.
Yes, there are minor problems, but they are very minor. Combat is a bit clunky which sounds bad for a cowboy shooter, but you don’t really spend as much time in shootouts as you would think. The menu design gets a bit annoying even with the quick-quit option, and this does become tiresome if you like to read all the document/item information etc as I do.
I haven’t tried multiplayer yet, and I hear there are some problems with it and also talk of some micro-transaction content on the horizon, but I bought this for single player so that doesn’t bother me. It will be a bit disappointing if Rockstar goes down the EA route when it comes to paid content, but if it’s purely cosmetic then I can live with that and simply ignore it.
In short, this will probably go down as one of the best open world games ever.

Really enjoy the gameplay and the content. Didn’t review straight away as wanted to play some of the story before I left the review.

So I hadn’t played the first game, just jumped on the bandwagon with this purchase and thought why not! So dusted of the PS4 and had a go!

As a “not so regular” gamer, I really enjoy the graphics in this game, the scenery is stunning! It’s quite straight forward to play and the content keeps up the interest levels.

I have marked a 4 out of 5 because I seem to be having a very … glitchy… experience in the last couple of days, first noticed this when trying to start a mission and the gameplay froze a few times, when ever I try to attempt a particular “stranger” challenge, the camera locks on to the stranger and doesn’t allow me to interact or move…

Apart from this, give it a go! It is a really great game! And it got me back into my PS4

Whilst it takes a couple of hours of playing to really get in to the story, this is one of the best, most absorbing games I have ever owned. It has a vast gameplay map and story mode that is filled with side quests and challenges to keep you busy for a long, long time.
There’s easily 100+ hours of play time in this game which make it well worth the price tag and the new online update means there is even more to do when you play with others online.
I bought this to save me money in the long run on going out whilst I was working away during the week and it’s definitely done that.
I’d recommend this for any serious console gamer who is a fan or incredible graphics, gameplay and cinematics.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI don’t purchase games as often as I used to, I wait for something to be released that I’m really looking forward to playing. Having played the first Red Dead and also the DLCs I knew I wanted to invest in this game.

I’ve not been disappointed, currently at around 83% completion on the main story and really enjoying it so far. It took me a good 5 hours of gameplay at the start to really get into it as it starts a little slow, but then soon begins to ramp up action wise with some really superb missions. Love riding out with the whole gang!

The environmental art is incredibly beautiful, and everytime you think it can’t improve you are introduced to another part of the huge open world map that just blows your mind all over again with its diverse and ever changing terrain. The weather system is also impressive.

Currently RockStar are one of my favourite developers along with CD Projekt Red. They are forever pushing boundaries in making their games more and more engaging and detailed, and this game is definitely one of the most detailed I’ve played. You find yourself noticing more the longer you play it. Just riding off into the woodland and doing some hunting is even a fun way to pass some time, usually I get bored of that rather quickly in other games but thus far I still enjoy it!

I bought this game when it was released and I’m still happily playing it now many hours later so definitely worth the money, as sadly more games aren’t these days.

I highly recommend this if you’re a fan of the franchise or even if this is your first RD experience.

Fantastic game that occupied many hours of my time. Some repetitiveness with the missions but it’s easily looked over. Graphically it’s beautiful, especially the lighting and soundscape. Though some glitching with the horses but that’s always been an issue with Rockstar games. The storyline is great and kept me entertained throughout, especially if you’re a fan/player of the original game, with the nods to past gameplay and Easter eggs. Truly recommend the game!!

RDR 2 is a masterpiece, one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. Arthur Morgan has to be one of the greatest characters in gaming history. You have to be patient with this game, invest a lot of time into it but at the end you will be rewarded. By the end, you will appreciate this game as a truly breathtaking and tragic tale. The term epic to describe this game is an understatement.

With 2018 being a superb year for video games, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an absolute must-buy. The gripping storyline, explosive gameplay and attention to detail in the environment are remarkable, ground-breaking in ways that really explains why this game alone took more than 5 years to develop.

It does it boring at times, I feel there are quite a few ‘filler’ missions before reaching climactic events but the game having so much its difficult to give up on this game. The western theme is extremely immersive, there are so many characters to come across, weaponry, character customization and bonding with horses, the game overall makes feel you like a cowboy. Arthur Morgan has become of one my all-time favourite video game protagonist, the character and acting behind him is excellent, playing as him places you at the driving seat of the storyline.

This game is for anyone enjoys the historical setting and looking to get into an immersive, open-world storyline for your video-game escapism.

This is quite easily the best game I’ve seen in,probably, my whole life. It is beautifully written, incredibly made, well voiced, the music fits each moment perfectly and, on the whole, is capable of taking even those with the hardest heart on an emotional journey so intense that I almost saw my fiance cry (trust me, that never happens!!). I recommend this game to every single person out there. It is just wonderful.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI knew 10 years ago that I would love the sequel to this game, and now I can confidently say I was right. Although the first 20 minutes doesn’t have the allure that the first game had with the story, this one really shines when it comes to exploring this open world. I usually only have 2 hour slots to play this game before I go back to baby/wife duty and my play session goes something like this:

    – Today I will complete at least ONE primary story mission
    – All I need to do is ride my horse for 5 minutes to get to this guy and we’ll begin
    – 30 seconds into the ride “Help help, someone has kidnapped me and I need help” -> chase that f&*er down and get the girl. Now she wants a ride home? All the way in the opposite direction? Whaaat? Ok hop on lets go.
    – At this girls town, realise theres a few shops here where I can sell all the deer skin I’ve been piling up on my horse, so head over to the trader.
    – On route I pick up a lucrative bounty poster at the sherriffs office, Visit the shady trader to sell all my stolen jewellery, buy some winter gear in case it gets cold later and feed my horse cuz, you know, it must be hungry by now.
    – Ok now I’m ready to head back out to primary story mission, run to my horse and tap triangle to mount, theres a guy near my horse and instead of mounting the horse, I grapple him instead. I let go immediately, but now the cops are on my tail (this has happened many times). I say screw that, I’m not going back to jail and wasting 5 minutes of screen animation time, I’m gittin’ outa town fast. So now I’m headed out of town with a posse of cops chasing me, heading in the wrong direction from my primary mission again.
    – 2 hours up. Loved every second. Maybe tomorrow I’ll make it to primary story mission. Tonight, I’ll sleep happy.

This game is immense. You will invest hundreds of hours in it. The depth and breadth are unparalleled. The story is great – but there is so much more to it than that. A game that rewards time and patience. This is not a five minute adrenaline blast – this is a game about enjoying the slow pace of days gone by. Whether it’s spending 5 hours on a single hunting challenge, an afternoon playing poker in the saloon, or just riding around admiring the scenery, there is a lot here.
As the saying goes, if you are tired of Rdr2 you are tired of life.

Loved, loved, loved it. Freaking brilliant graphics, good story although some more could have gone into it. I would have rather had bigger rewards when it came to the rewards. For all the jobs done. Sometimes it was hard work for little reward. And i think it could have done with pardon letters like the first game, so you are not spending your funds paying bounties. I enjoyed the grooming side styling the character’s hair and facial hair. And some of the missions seemed pointless too. Yes it came full circle with the first game and it is hard to follow the success of the first, but it there were some things i felt left unfinished.

Cracking game, great story. Only downside is the pathetic game mechanics. Plays like a game from 10 years ago. Clunky, hard to aim, and the button layout is a total mess. Shame because it could have been the best RPG since the Witcher 3.

As a prequel to Red Dead Redemption this game is just amazing. I’m talking about the story mode not multiplayer. If you’re buying this game just for multiplayer then Remember that aspect is currently still Beta do there’s glitches ( and the normal course of griefers).
Back to the story mode, yes a game this large ( and the map area is HUGE) has a few glitches, but so far updates have sorted them out. The graphics on even standard PS4 is amazing and the host of characters you encounter is just brilliant.

If you enjoyed the original you will love this gane!

Won’t bother writing a long review, but will say this is by far the highest quality game I’ve ever played after Dead Red Redemption 1 in terms of gameplay, graphics and story, just an AAA quality game in a league of its own. You’ll feel like you’ll have really lived in the Wild West after playing, its a completely out of body immersive experience. Literally anything you can think of you can do it in this huge open world game, you don’t even have to follow the storyline, just go off into the wilderness and do your own thing, .i.e. hunting wild animals (bears, snakes, buffalo, crocodiles etc), kayaking down rapids, bounty hunting, watch a show in the city, gambling, take a train ride, rob a bank or store and countless side quests you randomly come across.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis game has set a new benchmark by a country mile! By far the most detailed game I have ever had the privilege of immersing myself in. The story is fantastic and just keeps getting better the further you proceed into the game and in my opinion, it has to be by far the best game Rockstar has ever produced & I’ve played and completed all of the GTA series and the original RDR but this is another level. Worth every penny you’ll pay for it! Edit: Now I’ve completed it I want to buy it again to have it framed, should of definitely been the Game of The Year for 2018! It’s my Game Of The Century!!!

Rockstar overdid it with a tutorial which lasts about 2 hours ! I was sick of the sight of snow but after that you finally get to camp at Horseshoe Ridge (sorry if that’s exactly the right name) and then you are free to roam the massive and beautifull world of RDR2 – without doubt the best graphics I have ever seen in any game.

What you do after that is up to you, just enjoying the scenary for now !

Obviously the best game ever made. That anyone could give this anything other than 5 stars proves only that some people review things before giving the said product a fair chance. Spectacular in almost every way, with twists in the plot, utterly phenomenal graphics (the scenery…), a soundtrack that I would actually like to buy, and seemingly endless in terms of enjoyment that can be extrapolated from this (it has been 7 weeks to the day that this game came out and I ploughed yet another glorious 5 hours into it).

Best game ever made. Makes everything else out there look pathetic actually. No hyperbole.

300 hours played (roughly), I see 300 more laid out in front of me, and I cannot wait!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAs a gamer since the early 80’s, I’ve witnessed the evolution of games, from the graphical improvements, to the introduction of narrative story telling. In the last few years a few gems have come along, The last of us and uncharted series from naughty dog, horizon zero dawn from Guerrilla, and God of war from Santa Monica Studio. All these games have excelled in taking interactive story narrative to the next level, including the ability to capture pure emotion to the point of you bonding and truefully caring about the game character……then Rockstar games after eight years development bring us This masterpiece that is Red Dead Redemption 2, a game like no other before it. Prepare yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions on a journey of hope honour and betrayal in the wild west. No other game has ever had such an impact on my emotions and I genuinely can’t see this ever being surpassed. The world of RDR2 is utterly fantastic from the scenery to the finest little details, no words I write can ever do it justice, hit the buy it now button and go experience the wild west for yourself.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is one of the best releases of 2018, and well worth the wait. Brings back feelings of nostalgia for players of the original Red Dead Redemption, while still being 100% understandable and amazing without knowing anything about the previous games plot (I had forgotten most of the original).

The story is fantastic, even if it takes a few hours to start getting exciting, and is well worth the play with several choices to make along the way.

The combat is as good as can be expected from a game like this and the guns slower rate of fire adds a sense of realism to the time period. Deadeye can be a little overpowered but that’s the point and it makes you feel like a badass and a real gunslinger.

As for the online, I’m writing this review only 2 or 3 weeks after the online was released, and I will say this. It’s buggy for now, yes, but it’s a work in progress and is set to be absolutely amazing!

I love playing with others and sharing the vast map and opportunities and there is so much more to come so even if you somehow aren’t satisfied with the online, remember that Rockstar like to slowly build upon their games to retain the audience, like how GTA V added heists and organisations, and will definitely be doing the same kinds of things here.

Overall a game that is 110% worth the price tag. Rockstar games could be double the price of others and probably still sell more copies because it’s just sheer class. 11/10

A great game every PS4 owner should own. They’ve certainly made the game their way as in it plays and controls like nothing else (except the first game), the controls and menus take some getting used to if you’re coming from other modern fast paced triple A games. It isn’t the best at explaining the gameplay systems either but thankfully there’s the internet for that. Once you get your head around it all it becomes a fantastic game.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI completed the story a few days ago so thought a review was in order. I bought the standard edition…

I have only done the story and side missions that I encountered (I may have missed some side ones but not sure) so that’s what I’ll be reviewing, I haven’t done as much free exploring as I’d like. But at least I completed the story before reviewing which is more than most can say. I hate to rush a story in beautiful games like this but I needed to because I had to pack my PS4 away as we are having major work done on our house in the lead up to Xmas so I needed to complete the story before it was spoiled to me online (which happened with RDR1).

So, the game is much prettier than RDR1, that game had areas that always looked the same to me (even Mexico) but this game has varied landscapes. It’s a beautiful game and I play on an original PS4, it even seems to run better on that rather than the pro where I have seen numerous gitches. But it’s not without glitches on the original either. Which is a shame as they should be picked up on if you believe the rumour that Rockstar had some of their lead developers work over 100 hour weeks to get this game done. I believe the most serious glitch, where some members of camp disappear if you restart an early Uncle mission from a checkpoint, was patched which is good.

This game is stunning visually. And I bonded with Arthur Morgan way more than I did John Marston. I think the trailers of this game portrayed Arthur as much more evil than John but actually he’s not. The honour system isn’t perfect in this game, if you get bad honour then it is really difficult to progress as even if you kill someone bad, like a gang member, on the roads then chances are a passer by will report you. It’s much better to earn high honour before doing anything remotely outlaw like. Which can be ridiculous as the game is about outlaws. I just explained it away with the idea that people were becoming much harder on outlaws now. But then I decided to play Arthur as mostly good and that’s the only way you will reap any rewards in this game. So the honour system is a bit pointless.

The one thing I love in this game is that your relationship with horses is much better. You actually have to take care of them by feedng and brushing them to raise your relationship. In the first game, if your horse died you just whistled and another came along with a saddle and that was your horse. Now you can name them and personalise their appearance and have your own personal saddle and can buy different horses as the game progresses and Arthur actually loves them, he’s concerned if they are hurt. I run away from gunfights and ambushes just so my horse doesn’t get hurt and I went the whole game without hunting to upgrade my satchel or other items, because I hated killing animals for their skins. I killed only for food for camp, or when missions required it. Other than that I fished for camp. Fishing is great in this game. I loved the camp aspect to this game. I had a purpose, to try and keep them fed and happy. And you would get told off by Susan if you didnt donate to the camp funds or you’d get praised by Dutch if you did. Or Pearson would mention the food stocks were low. It gives incentive to get out there and work. And then randomly, I walked past Lenny and he farted 😀

One camp upgrade you can buy is fast travel I was excited to get this. In the first game you just camped in the wilderness and could fast travel from there. In this game you can only fast travel from camp. I hate it and find it pointless. Even if you use it, you get a fairly long cutscene of Arthur getting on his horse and part of the travel that can’t be skipped, so it’s a really pointless feature.

The map is beautiful scenery wise, but I do personally wish there were more towns. Apparently, it is much bigger than the RDR1 map but I feel it’s slightly bigger, I just think it’s much prettier and more detailed. But I still need to explore more. I will do a more thorough playthrough in the new year. What I have seen is wonderful though and the story is much more detailed than RDR1 I and I love it. I know there is more to find and discover secrets within the world. But some gave up on this game because of the slow start. People that don’t like slow burners and are only interested in multiplayer are wasted on the story in this game and it is their loss sadly.

4 stars though just because it shouldn’t have the glitches it does. And I feel the fast travel is useless.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDisclaimer: I have not yet tested the online functionality of this game. This review will be based solely on the single player aspects of this game. This review will also be SPOILER FREE.

When writing game reviews, I like to open with the cons. Never trust a review without at least one negative aspect. So here we go. It’s glitched on me a few times, when I’ve been innocently trundling along on my horse and all of a sudden I’m underneath the map. To be fair, the map is massive and this has only happened a handful of times. It’s not like it’s a frequent issue. I also expect that it will be patched out by Rockstar eventually. Honestly, there aren’t any more negatives that jump to mind. Sure I’ve been killed when the bullets I’m firing off should have killed hoardes of enemies but hey, weapons are in bad condition, they’re less accurate. We’ll call it realistic rather than a drawback.

So, onto the pros. What a game. Those three words sum this game up well. The map is huge, the graphics are realistic, with grass movements, tree sway in the wind and even footprints trailing behind you in muddy conditions all contributing to one of the most immersive gameplay experiences that I have personally had. The physics and gameplay aspects are (somewhat) realistic. (I’m sure everyone has heard of the horses ballsac shrivelling up in colder climates). Your character gets cold at night or in harsher climates, unless they are wearing suitable attire. If you don’t eat, you get hungry and your health deteriorates (but stamina improves a bit), overeat and health improves, but stamina falls. It’s a realistic experience that ensures that you experience all aspects of the game. Camping and going out hunting is one of the best free roam experiences I had in the game.

Weapons – All fab, no real complaints. There’s no SMG’s or Assault Rifles, but it’s in a post civil war era, these guns didn’t exist then, not to my knowledge anyway, I wasn’t around then. Guns deteriorate in power, accuracy and rate of fire if they are not properly maintained, much like real life. As I feel like I’m constantly reinforcing, this game stays relatively true to real life.

The story is good, a fantastic example of storytelling. I will say no more to avoid spoilers.

Overall, this is a superb game. A worthy sequel for a game which was a classic for the previous generation of consoles. If the online works out well, it has the potential to be a game that will be popular for the life of this console generation. You’ll earn the money you spend on this back in entertainment hours tenfold. Well worth the purchase.

I’m going to keep this brief and state the game is a graphical marvel, it suffers from padding and excessive travel times, but for the most part the game is excellent, not quite on par with Red Dead Redemption, taking into account the games of this generation such as God of War 4 and Uncharted 4, however it is a must buy for young and old alike. One feature that definitely stood out was the dynamic animations, such as when you do an action, lets say you tackle someone, when you tackle them, based on many factors such as the environment ect…. The animation will adjust mid cycle accordingly.

    Graphics – 4.5/5
    Story – 3.5/5
    Sound – 4.5/5
    Gameplay – 4/5
    Multiplayer – 3/5

    Pros
Fantastic, engaging story with a lot of in-depth storytelling and incredibly immersive environment
Graphically, the game is stunning. I can’t imagine games looking any better than this on the current generation of consoles.
Online has just been released and -compared with GTA V release- has been relatively flawless, (just a few issues in co-op missions, which I am sure will be sorted)

    Cons
Very slow. I feel like I have been playing forever and have made next to no progress. The actual action is great when you can get into it. If you are working and only have a few hours a week to play, this game is possibly not for you, I know I’ve struggled. In an average hour of playing, you will spend 40 minutes on your horse, 10 minutes in cutscenes, and 10 minutes actually doing something of worth. For that, it can be tedious.

Overall the game is very enjoyable and immersive, but I wish there were more to do on the way to/from missions.

A must have, it was delayed and it shows, it is beautiful! Usually I do not like prequels because you know most of what is going to happen, but god damn Rockstar pulled it off again. It fits into the chronology perfectly. I would not be surprised with the amount of time and effort they put into this game that RDR1 might be a buyable DLC in the future.

Although I had to return the game to Amazon as the disc was faulty, I ended up purchasing it from elsewhere and I have to say it has go to be one of the most enjoyable games I have played in a very long time. The graphics are superb and the story-line is compelling. There are plenty of tricky missions to complete and some really good side-missions as well. This game is definitely a 10/10 and I’m surprised this didn’t win 2018 Game of the Year! An absolutely cracking game from Rockstar Games.

    PROS
    – Superb graphics
    – Excellent storyline
    – Really good mix of missions
    – Huge open-world playing areas
    – Great AI
    – Really good comical touches throughout

    CONS
    – Comes on two discs
    – Initial download from web is nearly 100Gb

A game I would highly recommend to any serious console player.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI pre-ordered this game through Amazon in October 2016, I needed to escape the silliness of GTA, with its rocket firing flying cars / bikes, near indestructible tanks etc, its lost its sense of enjoyment & skill, too easy to spoil other players ground level fun, so was RD2 two years too much to wait, was it worth it…..!!!

    Let’s see……

I realise Red Dead 2 is not on line as yet, & it’s game play is more laid back, slow, but you are talking horse & wagon as your ride, this is pre GTA America with it’s near indestructible super tanks & pimped wheels, & it’s so fresh to be able to lay back, ease into the saddle & explore a game at at more realistic pace.

You do what you have to do to survive, kill, be it murder or self defence, rob/ loot, skin animals for furs / eat, you can even take a bath with the help of a very nice lady, but it will cost you!!

As in any game you have to progress, which can be from advancing your weapons, wilderness skills & horse upgrades, plus your wanted level, those law enforcement types are on you quicker than a traffic warden, but the Sheriffs are less animated!!

The controls are a bit arse over tit, takes a bit to get used to the flow of things, takes a while, especially when you need a speedy weapon change etc.
The graphics are good, but could of been better, slight sluggish feel sometimes, not a gripe, just an observation, the story / missions can seem slow, but we’ve all just come from playing GTA / Star Wars / Fifa mental speed gameplay, this is the Wild West, the fastest transport being the steam train, which in all fairness seems to run more efficiently and effectively than our UK / British rail service at the moment, true story.

Enjoy a game that wants to take its time, speeds up when needed, slows down when necessary, you choose your path on this game, & nature decides if it’s gonna interfere with you or not, from wild bears, snakes, the elements or man, it’s a jungle out there…..!!!!

Slow down a bit, relax, be mellow & explore the Wild West that is Red Dead 2.

I sat so near my TV the other evening when playing RD2,
They made me Sheriff 3 times .

    Buy it
    Enjoy i

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersRed Dead Redemption was the best game on PS3. RDR2 is the best game on PS4.

The playing area is huge and beautiful, the missions varied, the narrative and story arc excellent. I’m glad Rockstar took the decision to delay release, because they’ve created a work of art.

There are a couple of frustrations:
    – if you’re cantering along and another horseman comes the other way then at the last minutes turns into your path (as they seem to do) you’ll suddenly be guilty of assault. I guess they didn’t have dashcams in those days;
    – occasionally you lose your horse. It doesn’t die, it just disappears and you have to buy another. That’s annoying if you’ve spent money on a good horse and time bonding with it
    – occasionally you’ll lose a “legendary pelt” – apparently if you visit a trapper then ta-da! it’s back. Only it isn’t. Not a big deal but annoying
    – It can be tedious when you need to travel a long way, as fast travel is only available from your home camp. The amazing graphics and opportune encounters make the journeys pass a little easier.

Some reviewers were clearly expecting this to be Call of Duty with six-shooters and so are disappointed. They should have done their homework. If you have a short attention span and want to play a game for just ten minutes at a time with non-stop gunfights, don’t buy this. It’s deeper and more intelligent than that, and requires an investment of both time and emotion. This appears to be beyond the capabilities of some reviewers – I pity them as they’re missing out.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is an amazing game. An immersive reflection of the cowboy lifestyle at the turn of the last century. It’s slow and relaxing unlike most modern games so rather than blast an alien with a laser, you’ll ride your horse from the plains into the high mountains, stalk a deer then take it down with a bow and arrow and skin and eat it before camping under the stars. It requires imagination and patience, but if you have those it’s the best gaming experience in a very long time.

This is a very good game, great sound and graphics, huge detail and many things to do, even more than the last game, so it should get 5 stars, but it doesn’t. Why not? Well the story is heavy going and by that I mean it becomes quite depressing for a while. It starts off with hope but after a while that seems to evaporate and the missions although varied feel heavy going. It’s a great game, but is let down by a depressing story line.

The best technology I have seen in gaming, and really is the most immersive experience.
The attention to detail is INSANE seriously, from bodies realistically decaying to beautiful mastery of graphics.

However the mechanics are sluggish and down right poorly designed. (aiming is God awful, holding l2 to interact, movement, lack of side quests)

But all of that is ignored by the crazy advancements and OCD details they have made with gaming.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like this game but haven’t found it as engrossing as I would have imagined. I think the story is great, but in an open world game, I find it quite linear. Whilst the graphics are generally impressive (especially the environment), I find the character models unconvincing.

I’m also a little disappointed that the HDR graphics aren’t really HDR.

The graphics are gorgeous with a great draw distance

There’s some great characters and some characters that feel rushed

The controls are ok but at times clunky and the same goes with your character Arthur

There also a few missions that were no doubt used to pad the game out

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI ordered this soon as it was announced so waited well over 18 months for it. Its a very good game, visual and the sounds! I have a soundbar/surround dolby system installed in my house, the sound on this game is the first time i have noticed how good it can be in game mode! Fifa was atmospheric with the dolby atmos for crowds. This however blows it away, when i am walking my Arthur avatar about in the rain, if i stop him moving i can actually hear the rain pitter pattering on his hat! Amazing work.

Graphically yes its stunning no doubt, didnt expect anything different really, its as movie like as any game i have ever seen.

The world in itself is very nicely laid out and obviously in keeping with the time, i like the realism…. what i do like is they havent gone politically correct, they have kept in keeping with the time the game is set. I have ran into KKK meetings in forests, i have been involved in the suffraget movement also.

Ok the gripes i reading in the reviews, yes the is a element of trickery with the controls, yes i tried to talk to a innocent woman in the first town i came to and blew her head off with my double barrelled…thus earning me a bounty in that town before i even knew what was going on. Mastery of the controls is needed thought as the game progresses you realise the amount of things you can do and that explains why it seems such a odd layout at the start as you unlock more items and skills it becomes clear why Rockstar used this way.

It is more sim like that most rockstar games true, this detracts nothing from the game itself. if you want a blast fest akin to call of duty get that instead simply enough.

For 45 this is epic and well worth money i can see getting 50+ hours out of it easily, my mates are already going on youtube looking for all the side quest secrets and hidden items to help them out, i might do this in time to, so that will add a new element….dont forget the online offering isnt even launched yet, that will bring a whole new dimension also!

I have zero regrets on purchasing this. You should give it a go 100%

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersRed Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most detailed games ever made.
    Good points:
    > Fantastic graphics
    > Amazing attention to detail (Beard and hair grows, houses testicles shrink and expand, hats fall off during fights, main character will get dirty over time)
    > Massive, detailed over world filled with things to do that aren’t just fetch quests
    > Characters you actually care about and a compelling story (at times)
    Bad Points:
< Story takes along time to get going < No fast travel (which isnt a bad thing per say) but this means you spend most your time riding to objectives (this can be unlocked later in the game though) < Main story missions can at times be boring (But this is just my own opinion)

I found this game a bit frustrating at first.. not been able to run at certain times for example in camp is infuriating! GTA5 look it’s my opinion that games story was the worst didn’t care about the characters at halfway through the game so it has very lack of character development open world felt empty freak missions bored me main missions were completely new and they were great.

Now this game I wanted from Rockstar since GTA4 I played back in 2009.

Red dead redemption 2 is an impactful story, things that I was not expecting in the open world , graphics are stunning, the characters I cared for everyone including Dutch, the controls are clunky but you do get use to them chapter 1 is a slow paced but once you’ve done that chapter and the world is open to you it’s truly a masterpiece and this has got to be a great RPG since the Witcher 3 wild hunt for me every choice matters if your bad it will come back on you.

When I talk about the open world being a masterpiece it’s the fact that when you travel in the game you will be stopped by random strangers who will need help or who will rob you and the last type is they want to kill you.

Their so many more strangers of different types but not going to spoil it, play this game yet it is slow to begin with but trust me the combat in first person mode to gun fighting to fist fights are impressive and satisfying to play.

There are many more things to do that will feel like writing a book for me to explain, if your a fan of real RPG of an interesting story, character development and satisfying combat then get this game now.

It’s already been covered by most of the reviews on here, but just how much there is to do and explore in this game is difficult to overstate. An absolute masterpiece.

As someone who played the first Red Dead Redemption (2010), I will admit that there are a few pieces of that game which I believe are lacking from this one – I personally felt more immersed in the first game’s story. However, I am only 25% through this game so I will hold off full judgement until then.

I am also very much looking forward to the online multiplayer, with a beta announced to arrive later in November.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAmazing, slow at first but once you get in to it, it is just wow, the story has so many twists and turns, it is so realistic even the little things like if you don’t shave your beard keeps growing, Rockstar have really took their time with this and it has paid off.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this for my fianc’s birthday for it to arrive the day it came out on 26th October. He is totally obsessed and has told me at least 5 times a day how much he loves it and that it was th best gift. The graphics are really incredible and the story is great. The map is huge and exploring is really fun. The missions are all exciting and the details are unbelievable. Amazing game, even better than the first!”

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersRed Dead 2 is exceptional as a complete game, the graphics and realism are very good with complete weather systems (which are some of the best I’ve seen), an interesting and engaging storyline and plenty to keep you entertained.

It’s a third-party (or FPS if you want..) open-world shooter RPG.

The map is huge, with limited fast-travel. The original Red Dead was very dull with repeated, identical ‘encounters’ this is fixed with Red Dead 2 with a variety of unique side missions/encounters and multiple choice.

The characters are engaging.. lots of customisation (weapons, outfits etc) and a realistic ‘eat/weight/hair growth’ system which usually I hate in games (I want to play a game story, not worry about diet in a game) although it’s done very well in RDR2.

As mentioned, the weather/season mechanics are world-class. Very realistic, you need to match outfits to the weather or your health will go down i.e. if you weather jeans and a shirt in the snow.

Another fantastic part is the ‘little detail’ such as the mechanics of picking up a child and putting them on your horse (don’t ask..) are very realistic and well thought out.. or bumping into people, walking on different surfaces etc

There is plenty of hours worth of gaming here, with lots of option to go off on your own tangent.

There is a negative though. The first hour or so of gameplay is incredibly dull. Other than admiring the snow graphics, you will be bored out of your skull.. I did initially wonder whether I’d made a mistake in buying.. but see it through, soon as your out of the ‘snow’ start, the game opens up and is fantastic.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our Users8 years in the waiting & it’s finally here, red dead redemption 2 is the next generation prequel & it delivers to an incredibly high standard that no other game can compete with. Over 18 only. This game will take 100gb memory so make sure you have plenty of space before u put in disk 1. This game has 2 dics & will take about 1hr 30mins to fully download depending on your internet speed. Those are the only downfalls, but the game itself is incredibly big with ample missions, side missions, horses, weapons, characters, choices & the best graphics I have ever seen on any game. The wild west is a beautiful world with real life animals, creatures as well as bounty hunters, wanted posters, gunsmiths, saloons, hotels & much more. My opinion is this will be game of the year quite easily! Outlaws till the end!

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI originally gave this three stars. I think anybody that gives this three stars hasn’t completed the game. What seemed a bit slow and clunky to begin with gradually became un-put-downable.

I completed the Story and dipped my feet in the Online part for a spell and already it feels decent (especially when compared to the dull Fallout 76. It makes me feel the online multiplayer part of Fallout 76 should have been an afterthought added to the real game or a DLC rather than the game itself).

I apologise to Rockstar for my tepid original review 🙂

Golden Review Award: 42 From Our UsersAfter reading some other reviews of this game, I really don’t understand what people are saying.

Firstly, I don’t find this game boring at all.

People complaining about having to ride around to different places was what you had to do in Red Dead Redemption 1, I can’t see any difference.

Riding horses isn’t as fast as getting around in GTA 5. Of course not. Horses are not as fast as cars, you should have already established that.

I am having a lot of fun playing this game. I personally like the slower story progression. The walking is a little slow but I don’t think it’s a problem at all. Rockstar have made a huge detailed beautiful world that is really interesting to explore around and an engaging story.

I’m not really a reviewer but I don’t think any of the bad reviews are accurate at all but its up to you to decide.

I like how the item arrived quickly and in excellent condition. Graphics and game play is excellent and I love how it’s completely different from the previous Red Dead Redemption game but still has the same feeling the first game gave when playing it, I especially like that we get to actually buy the character’s horses from a stable instead of the general store and that we get mostly new breeds in the game rather than a repeat of all the old ones. I have had a lot of fun playing this game and can see that continuing.

Red Dead Redemption 2, standard edition, PS4.
I’ve never had a game that takes two Blu-ray discs to actually start playing.
First being a Data Disc, second, a Play Disc, that’s the enormity of Red Dead Redemption 2.
You feel like a tiny spot, surrounded by the biggest, handsome/beautiful play area you ever did see.
It sort of felt like when I played GTA 3, GTA 4, & Fallout for the first time. This isn’t a kiss-kiss, bang-bang
type of game, savor it, taste it, like a can of finest Tennents Super, then fall asleep.
The crunchy snow was a highlight.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHaving never played the original Red Dead Redemption I ordered this anyway because I enjoy open world games and the wild west genre. Fortunately my faith has reaped dividends in that this game is phenomenal; it takes place in a truly living, engrossing world that you will likely ride through for hours just exploring. I’ve been playing for 3 days and I believe I have only completed 3 storyline missions, just enough to unlock the horse stable. There’s a genteel yet rough quality to the main protagonist and you can play him as gruff or polite as you want – within reason, this is a member of a band of outlaws after all.

The graphics are also breathtaking, you will often stop to admire the view and the clarity is such that your breath may even feel sharper as your mind interprets the snowy mountains and brisk breeze as being there with you. There has been some controversy regarding the game’s appearance on a PS4 Pro and 4K; I use a PS4 Pro but with a 1080p television and the game is stunning. If you can select playing the game at 1080p it look better but in any event the story and gameplay have always mattered more to me than the graphics.

All in all I can’t recommend this game enough. It has supplanted the Witcher 3 as my favourite game made this last decade and as I actually finish it it will probably become my favourite game of all time.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTLDR review: Stunning production values but far from innovative gameplay.

Graphics are breathtaking, storytelling, acting and all those little touches Rockstar seem to specialise in are completely on point. Real pleasure to just explore the world they’ve created.

    However…

Nothing particularly new about the gameplay. Missions, tasks and game economics are essentially the same as the first game. The original Red Dead was probably one of my favourite games of all time so admit it was always going to be tough to match the refreshing gameplay of the first one.

Golden Review Award: 365 From Our UsersI have read a few reviews on here regarding how disgraceful the ‘Hunting’ is on this game. Please, grow up, stop trying to give a game a bad name just because you only eat tomatoes. There’s a review regarding rockstar to create a game where people hunt other people, well hello, if you followed your title you would understand there’s a game called manhunt which was from rockstar, please look it up and play it for your wish to come true.

In western times people ate whatever they could to survive, even if it meant cannibalism. I’m sorry but if it was my life and a piece of venison I would choose the venison any day of the week. Luckily, now days we can just buy our food from a supermarket rather than hunt it for ourselves.

This is a video game, not a tutorial on how to hunt. Please get that into your empty skulls. I understand killing an animal for a sport is wrong, I agree, but not for living. I far from agree on killing an animal in general in these times we live in. But you need to get the fact it’s a video game, for entertainment purposes, now I’ve played it, I’m not gonna get a shotgun licence and go hunting. It’s a realistic time of the times in the western.

If you want your money back, then so be it, get a refund buy a farming simulator or something instead, but don’t expect an 18+ game from rockstar to be created for the light hearted.

Golden Review Award: 63 From Our UsersRed Dead Redemption 2 achieves its aim to create a immersive and realistic world in which to play out its Western drama. The game is intentionally slow paced, which some may find off-putting, but this pacing is designed to make you explore, take in the natural world, and discover the various secrets and encounters that are out in that wilderness.

This is not a game full of high-energy action every few minutes, but a slow, and often lonely, experience which captures the pathos of the decline of the frontier and the old west. Personally I have spent hours simply cantering around the world, greeting strangers, interacting with random events, and observing the wildlife, nothing more than me, my horse (named roach in reference to the Witcher 3) and the wild. It is visually stunning and weather effects and lighting can give even familiar areas a different atmosphere.

In the critical reviews there’s a lot of negative remarks about “spending most of the time riding” or “no fast travel”; I just don’t understand this criticism — Why would you not want to ride through remarkable scenery, encountering random things on the way, while heading to your mission? The hours spent riding through the world were probably the most immersive, most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in an open world game for many years. Without that riding, I would never have been ambushed by the O’Driscolls on my way back to valentine, never met a crazy old man who tried to steal my horse, never camped in the wilderness and been threatened by a couple of crazy rednecks, never found out about the secret history of a certain abandoned saloon.

If games are only about action for you, then avoid this; If they are about the experience then this game will provide you hundreds of hours of entertainment.

It’s a whole immersive world to explore and adventure in, not another brake kneck paced, kill everything all of the time, montage of violence. There’s only 2 reasons why people are giving this game a bad review, The first are action addicts that need instant gratification from constant action, explosions and aggression- this game is not for you. Or PC owners whining- there’s a lot of “PC is better than console. er guys, you do know consoles are just weaker PC’s. guys? Hey guys! STOP HAVING FUN WITH THIS GAME AND LISTEN TO ME!”
Honestly get this game! It’s amazing.

Golden Review Award: 186 From Our UsersThis game more than lives upto the hype…
Its a landmark in gaming history …..
Im 23% into main story and already ive had experiences on this game il never forget…

    Where to start this review??
Theres so to much to say about this game…

Il just write what happened in one of many different scenarios ive experienced so far…

I had to track down this old gun slinger to talk to about a book that was being wrote ….

He was on a train in the bar….

We started talking and he freaked out and ran off onto the top of the train…

I ran after him….and we ended up doing dueling on the top of the train…

    I beat him eventually…..(after a few trys….)

End of mission…. but i stayed on the train and ended up in this big city at about 6pm…

The alarm was raised as i was wanted….. I stayed on train as long as possible but it stoped in a station with lawmen everywhere…

Im managed to run away while being shot at….every1 was shouting……..i was getting chased around this maze of a city…..bursting through doors jumping over walls & hideing to escape……….none of this is scripted at all its your own experience…..but seems so real…

The city itself is the most detailed ive seen in a game ever….ever nook and cranny is alive….and people are going about there business…

I eventually managed to get out of the city alive but filthy and bloody….

But i had no horse and was dirty so everbody was suspicion of me…

Eventually i had to murder someone and steel his horse to try and get away nearer my camp…

I actually felt bad for killing someone because the game gives you a different experience if you are good or bad and im trying to be good…lol..

I got back to a small town on my stollen horse ……

    I found a hotel…paid $1 for a room and 0.25cents for a bath……

Cleaned all my weapons (which u need to do as they degrade)

    And slept for 12 hours…

Got up at the crack of dawn and wondered back to camp……

Where a women asked me to take her son fishing…..

I did and court 3 fish with him…….

    Simply amazing………

    EDIT…….

72% into main story i feel i must address negative comments on other reviews…

Firstly…. people moaning about wanted level and been hunted down….???

You are an outlaw….a murderer!!…..u will be hunted down…AND!?!?!?!……This is obviously going to happen its part if the game……..
If the map starts to turn red then bounty hunters are close by…..
Leave in the opposite direction staright away and you can always get away…….

If you opt to stay and defend yourself early on in the game it is harder to get through these attacks…….
but as the game moves on and you level up with better weapons and you get better at the game you can defend yourself against groups of bounty hunters………

And its becomes great fun to find cover and take them on…..and very satisifying to beat them…..and then loot the bodies…..

Gamers in reviews moaning about being tracked by bounty hunters are obviously not very good at the game……end of story….
It takes a bit of time to be able to take them on……..untill then just ride away in good time…..and do main story missions untill you are good enough to take them on…..

My own opinion is actually the opposite…i believe its a bit to easy to beat them after a while……maybe ive just got good at it….im not sure….

I personally find it awesome exploring the map…sleeping next to a fire at night knowing people are after you…….its what the game is all about…..YOUR AN OUTLAW !!!!!

Secondly gamers moaning about the controls…!!

The control’s are fine but take time to learn and to perfect…..
You must plan where your going to take cover……not just run and hope by tapping r1 you will immediately find cover……

The controlls could be better yes i admit but after alot of time on the game you wont notice……

    And Lastly ….

People moaning the game is boring!!!!!

Wtf!!!!!! i just cannot believe some People…

This is a game you sit down and experience especially in the 1st 4 or 5 hours…..it draws you in to another world……..

    you need to let it……….

I personally believe the majority of people saying its boring and slow are the call of duty generation ……….
The gamers with hyper anxiety who play muliplayer over and over again…..who want a quick fix of killing people ……

    Wrong game entirely im afraid…….

This game requires 3 hours minimum spare time to play especially on the first sit in…..

The story is amazing and the cutscences are amazing……….

You must give the game the time it deserves….

    A Masterpiece

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersArrived on release date – thank you Amazon! Didn’t take long to install. I’ve played for quite a few hours so far and the game is incredibly slow paced (hence the 4 stars). Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a slow paced game but this might be a tad too slow even for me. However, I am really enjoying it. As I said I’ve played for a fair few hours and have hardly even touched the sides. There is so much to do in this game! One thing, of many, that I really like is the change they’ve made to the horses. Over time you bond with your horse and build a relationship with it, which in turn makes your horse easier to ride. If your horse dies, it’s dead. For good. There’s no respawning. This adds a real sense of worry when you’re on horseback and are being shot at. It makes you a lot more careful and I’m much more aware of how my horse is doing because I do not want to lose it! I like the upgraded combat and gun mechanics, although it sometimes feels a bit clunky, but maybe I just need to get used to the game more. To perform some actions it feels like there’s too many buttons to press and I’ve found myself accidentally shooting some people when I actually just wanted to greet them. Again, I may just need to get used to the new gameplay. Overall this game looks very promising and I know im going to spend a lot of time in this virtual world.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersonce you get past chapter 2 then it starts to get good. This game wont be for everyone, It is nearly 3 weeks after the game was released and I am still only 45% completion of the main story. It has been a slog and while going through chapter one I was having by doubts and so I thought of trading the game in, which I’m so glad I didn’t. I bought this game because I am a huge, huge fan of my spaghetti Westerns and cowboy movies, and the game is very realistic if but a little clunky to play. I myself, like many, do not like all the different buttons that one has to press just to pick a favourite weapon out, or even forgetting to equip it from my horse’s cargo and so then I’m having call horse and search in the horse’s cargo for it before I go into action! Can be frustrating at times, though you do get used to it.
I think this game is made for online mode and that is when the game will be in its element, so I shall look forward to that aspect, however I do like this game, even if the controls are clunky and my horse keeps running into other people and trees!
My advice to anyone who might be getting this game, maybe for Xmas from a loved one or whatever, is you must give the game time, some patience and perseverance when playing through the missions, and then you will glad you fought through it, because some of the stuff in the game is remarkable/funny/interesting/serious and is worth fighting through the slog at the beginning.

    Thanks for reading!
    Bye.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersFirst let me just say: if you buy, when you get the game, get it installing ASAP as it takes AGES – this is a 2 disc game as a result of all the data that will get copied over to your PS4’s HD.

This should give us an idea about what we should expect out of this game. The world is HUGE. I can see where some of the complaints are coming from – you have to get through a long “introduction” where you’re being guided through the early chapters of your character’s story. Even when this is not cut-scene, the gameplay is slow. Searching a house for loot felt laborious – and even the other characters were shouting at me to “get a move on”! I think part of the reason for this is the complexity and attention-to-detail of the animations as your character moves, turns, stoops etc. It’s all so methodical. That creates a somewhat pedestrian pace that we’ve become unused to in games. Doing things like crafting, cooking, etc – when every single time it takes a few seconds longer to do than you’d like, it’s going to add up over time. After taking on a “mission”, you’ll also often have to ride to the location where things kick off, which could be miles away. And unlike GTA, you’re not in a sports car! In fact, you’re obliged to match canter speed with the rest of your gang. I could have cried when I restarted a failed train-heist mission instead of resuming from a checkpoint.

But don’t let that take away from the achievement of this game. It’s a huge, stunning world, and potential to do so much in it.

Those with patience will love it. Those with less patience may feel a bit bogged down before they start to get enjoyment out of the game – and may not get over the slower aspects.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThank God for Rockstar. If you compare this game to any recent EA/Dice games you would think they’re from different universe’s. It’s just a pleasure to play a brilliant game where the player has been considered. Graphics are mind blowing, story, characters, detail and length is what we’ve come to expect from Rockstar. 50 very well spent. 0 going to be spent on battlefield 5 and this is how it should be. It’s a simple equation EA don’t seem to understand. Make an amazing game for the people that play them and the money will roll in, time and time again. Releasing unfinished games every two years, is going to hurt sales bad, eventually(when players finally wake up). Red dead redemption 2 is a masterpiece and will go down in history. Enjoy.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersAs of the current time, I can’t speak regarding the online component of the game but that being said the single player experience is simply amazing. Its quite clear that Rockstar put in a lot of time and effort into making the world believable. The story whilst having a slow introduction is masterful and one of the best stories rockstar as told to date and will be remembered in the upcoming years within the gaming community. The A.I is one of the most advanced I’ve seen within a video game and really makes the open world a lot more fun as there is always somebody to speak to and events to participate in, good or bad (Profitable if you play the situation right). It’s been rated as the best game of the decade by several critics and I can honestly say that I wholeheartedly agree with them. Outlaws For Life. Good Job Rockstar.
