Q&A Time:

  • Question 1: Could be a person and vehicle-triggered alarms distinguishable?
  • Answer: Yes, Reolink 520A PoE IP camera can identify people and vehicles in terms of their shapes, and the cameras can specify the type of detection when sending alerts to you.
  • Question 2: How can I add an external hard drive?
  • Answer: There’s one SATA port inside and one e-SATA behind the NVR. You can add an external HDD (up to 6TB) via the port and provide an extra power supply for it to enlarge the capacity.
  • Question 3 : What if the HDD is filled up? Do I need to manually delete the videos?
  • Answer: You can turn on the “Overwrite” button so the new recordings will automatically cover the old ones when HDD gets full.
  • Question 3 : Does this system support Time-Lapse?
  • Answer: The 520A camera supports Time-Lapse, but if you connect the cameras to the NVR, the time-lapse function can not be used between the camera and NVR.

This camera system was to replace my 2K wifi cameras from eufy and I’ve got to say I’m impressed.

I wasn’t expecting the quality of them to be very good only being 5MP but somehow Reolink have done it. The picture quality is great. I mean it’s not 4K quality where you can read reviews plates from over the road but it can defiantly see faces coming up the drive and reg plates on the drive so that does me 🙂

Upgraded old analogue cctv system for this IP system. Already had Reolink App for 3 Reolink Wifi Battery cameras, which are still in use. Hence going for this system. My background was installing cctv both analogue and ip so had no problems putting it in. The picture quality of this 5Mp system is far superior to my old system and the nighttime pictures are excellent. The system works really well on the app with being able to filter the alarm types on playback. Excellent product.

Picture quality is excellent, setup is so easy anyone can do it, this kit is installed grade quality but DIY friendly. I replaced my existing system that had failed with this and I do not regret my purchase one bit.

The cameras are easy to fit & link up with the hard drive with the cables that come in the complete kit.
I have one fitted on my double garage focused on my driveway & car, I had to fit an extension cable due to extra length needed on this one, but readily available if needed, the other three cameras are on house under eaves looking down on front & rear gardens & shed. the camera plates can be fitted to brickwork or eaves with plugs & screws provided, cameras will spin onto fixed plates easily, I put a small amount of silicone sealant around back edge of camera & back plate & let that set off before adjusting camera angles so as camera would not spin undone on bracket plates. I play back on a small TV monitor that is only 720 P, but need to upgrade this to a HDD monitor of which I will do later. All in all a good camera system with simple single cable fitment to cameras & a large enough hard drive with up to eight camera fitment plug sockets. A Mouse is also included for operation on monitor.

    Soddisfatto dell’acquisto!

Easy to install as it’s all POE so a cable to each camera then straight to the box where the power comes from.
The app is free , no hidden costs , does everything you need . You can hook up to a tv with HDMI but we just connect to the app and you can change settings , view recorded footage , extract videos , watch live etc.. basically everything you need .. so we have the box in a cupboard and just feed the wires down through the loft into the cupboard . Definitely recommended.

Extremely easy to set up and most importantly extremely easy to view footage. Only downside is the cablers are meant to be outdoor rated yet I cant work out how you’re meant to waterproof the reset and optional power connector. In the end I gave up and stuffed all the cables into a Web Box for my external cameras. But i Keep thinking this is something stupid and there’s nothing in the manual about what to do with these 2 cables. If not for the fact they give you a waterproof housing for the POE, connector i would have likely just concluded you meant to run these tales inside. Mostly this isn’t a problem as many campers are inside, but I’ve had to be a bit inventive for the outside the cumbrous because of this apparent oversight. Or maybe I’m just being a bit thick. If anyone has in the battle of days all but love to hear them.

    Amazing system for the price

Perfect for the job and so many extra bits.
Long cables and very easy to set up.
Bought 2 more cameras but feel ripped off with them as you don’t get cable long enough only 1mtr cable which is silly and a waste of time also the backing plate are made of plastic.

Easy to set up, you connect all the cables and power it on and wait a bit until the nvr detects the cameras. These are good cameras with lots of features. I did not manage to test all because I want to put them in a different location. You can get email alerts a d upload on ftp, push notifications etc.
HDD is 2TB capacity but I have not open it to see what kind of HDD it is (usually purple ones are for cctv). Maybe I will do that later and / or upgrade to a bigger one.
Impressed with the camera options, from resolution, bit rate and fps (I lowered it here to save space), decent night vision as per video (I was recording the TV screen) but I don’t know how it will for a distance once set up. No colour night vision. Ethernet cables are quite long, but you can get these cheap anyway if you want it to change them, although over a longer distance it might not work (because of the cable itself as it can’t transmit the dat).
Wish they would be black so they are harder to spot but will fix that.

    Good cameras, see photos attached

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI had been looking for a CCTV solution for my property after having pondered with other camera systems offered by manufacturers such as Ring, Netatmo etc. The two significant advantages with this Reolink system are the POE (Power over Ethernet) – requiring just one cable to the camera, and the 24/7 continuous recording when combined with an NVR. The kit arrived promptly and contained everything needed to get setup, including cameras with bases, mounting templates/screws/rawl plugs, NVR, 4 x 20m ethernet cables, HDMI cable, a USB mouse and appropriate NVR power adaptors. It’s worth noting that the ethernet cables supplied with this system are pre-terminated, very flimsy and not externally rated so it is well worth buying a reel of external rated CAT5E/6 cable as it ensures a smaller cable entry hole into the building and is of a higher quality. The bases/mount supplied with the cameras were also quite loose and didn’t inspire much confidence – certainly an area that Reolink should look to improve.

Installation was very easy with supplied instructions, cameras were easy to mount and being POE required only 1 cable per camera. The only additional purchased were weather-proof junction boxes to ensure all connections stay IP rated. Cameras are plugged directly into the NVR negating the need for any Ethernet-injector and NVR setup is straight-forward with both daytime and night time picture quality being very good. The software on the whole is easy to use and on screen functions are relatively intuitive and easy to understand. Many aspects of the cameras can be altered from the NVR such as image resolution, quality, recording watermarks and many more features – however not exclusively as the Reolink app can also be used to alter settings as can the PC software. The cameras come packed with an array of features such as AI Human/Vehicle Motion Detection, Push Notifications, Email Alerts, NVR Buzzers – all are easy to setup and modify. The Reolink app is particularly useful for remote viewing and playback whilst also allowing for setup/modification of NVR and camera settings.

Motion detection is a major part of the cameras functionality for my use and sadly it just isn’t really good enough. Alerts are constantly triggering push notifications and email alerts despite them coming from areas that have been set up as exclusion zones within the NVR/app. This becomes a major annoyance to the point of wanting to switch the functionality off which defeats the purpose of a fundamental feature of the cameras. Adjusting sensitivity and updating to the latest firmware doesn’t seem to have much impact as I still get the odd couple of stray notifications a day – this areas certainly needs work from Reolink as it is simply lagging behind motion detection algorithms/notifications from Netatmo and Ring. Reolink articles suggest optimizing the setup of the cameras but as a software engineer I can say it’s a real area of let down – probably enough for me not to recommend them for purchase.

EDIT: After spending a week with the system I’ve been bombarded with constant false notifications from the camera. I wouldn’t recommend them at all for this reason alone, you’ll end up turning off motion detection completely, defeating a large purpose of the cameras.

EDIT: These are now much, much improved with the latest firmware release. The vast majority of the problems listed above have disappeared, with motion detection improving vastly

POE means a simple single cable installation. Easy to install and orient the cameras to give the coverage you desire. Once plugged into the NVR the quick setup is easy to follow and the cameras were up and running in no time. Connect the NVR to your router and you can access the system from anywhere using the app. Unfortunately the web browser access uses flash to display the images so won’t work off iPads etc. and will have limited life as Flash is phased out, but there are so many ways to access your system that this is only a minor issue. My only real issue so far, that I have been unable to resolve, is the blocking of motion detection on one of the cameras. I set up the zone and reduce the sensitivity and it still detects everything in that area. I’ve deleted the zone and settings and set it up again and it still detects everything.
The image quality is great and using the app is intuitive for the most part. The online help is fairly comprehensive but I’ve yet to try the support process which is where I’m headed next to sort my blocking zone issue out.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had been looking for some time for a reasonable poe camera system and from the research I did the reolink systems came up at the top tier. This is particular one had everything needed in the box, cables, and all. The quality of the cameras is pretty superb and the night vision works very well and is surprisingly clear. The audio recording is good enough to pick up quiet sounds as well.

The 2tb of storage was only enough for adout 7 days of constant recording with the 4 cameras included so I switched to the motion recording option and it was dramatically increased the storage capability, no point recording when there is no activity. The AI detection is pretty good, it can identify people, plain motion, and cars. The Web interface on a local network does need work as it lacks some ui elements that the nvr and app have.

Only real criticism is that the included ethernet cables are light grey but the cameras and mounts are white so the colour mismatch is quite noticeable if the system is installed on a white wall as the cable sticks out.

I’ve been using Reolink for over a year for various jobs. Great for home CCTV. Easy set up, once online everything can be done through the app (configure motion detection, night vision, image quality etc). Cables in the kit are 20m and pre-crimped so I usually use own cable and crimps. Makes it easier to drill and feed through smaller holes.
New dome camera design is much better, picture quality and network is better!
