Looks good but feels a bit cheap
The handle is a smooth plastic that feels a bit lightweight. I’m sure it is strong and well made but compared to a genuinely old piece of design doesn’t feel pleasing to hold…bit plasticky. The brushed steel bits all look good.

    Does the job
Does the job, boils quick, looks great and light to hold. Overall a nostalgic appliance with a smooth pour at a great price. No fancy bells and whistles needed.

    Stylish, practical
Bought it for the design, but was keen on it doing the job and being easy to use as well.

Pros: Design, build quality, short boil time, no tacky LEDs, comparatively low cost.

Cons: No indicator light means you can’t obviously see if the kettle is ‘on’ (you can hear it thought). Lid design means you need to hold/remove the lid to fill it under the tap which is an extra step compared to a flip-up lid. Brushed aluminium may be vulnerable to get small dents over time.

    o plastic taste like mos
others so called with non plastic taste still have it, hate that the smell and taste this one has non at all, even though there are small plastic parts in its make up, has odd things to watch for if you need to top up leave for a while or hot steam will get you, also let it just slightly stop boiling before you pour it spits otherwise, over all a good kettle not as good as original one its based on but still pretty fair, although at price still over priced, 10 pounds less or so would be its truer value.

Really pleased with this Kettle. Only had it a short while but so far so good. You do need to be careful when pouring especially if you’re used to the upright kettles as the water can come a bit quick.

    Retro joy
Haven’t personally experienced anything negative. Delighted with kettle, reminds me of the one we had as a child, plus my teenage daughter recognises it to be what it is – a timeless stylish piece of iconic kitchenware. Happy memories.

Best kettle I’ve had in ages!!!
I like everything about this kettle.
It’s easy to lift. Looks great.
Love the spout and the way it pours.
    It’s all good!!!

    Kettle
Only problem with this kettle is that you have to take care when pouring out when it’s full. You need to do it slowly to stop it spurting out. Kettle is fine apart from that.

    Perfect kettle
I love the traditional design and pouring the water is a joy, you don’t get water splashes all over like with other kettles. It boils really quickly and you can easily how much water there is in the kettle. Refreshing that it doesn’t have a Led light of any kind. Very good purchase.

    So cool!
I bought this kettle as I recognised it from years ago! It’s certainly really similar to the one I used to have long ago. It boils very quickly, isn’t too loud and pours really well. I love the long spout, in fact I just love the look of this kettle. I smile every time I use it 🙂 I’ve been using plastic kettles for a few years now, along with stainless steel ones. I’m so pleased this is the 75th edition model hence it’s got promoted on here, or I might not have noticed it. It’s fairly pricey at 59 but has a 2 year guarantee plus I registered it on line at Russell Hobbs so get an extra year guarantee. If you had one of these all those years ago, you won’t be disappointed and if you’ve never owned one…go on…treat yourself!

Nice kettle, but could do with some minor improvements.
It’s a nice kettle, best pouring kettle I’ve owned. The only downside is that the water level indicator on the side is hard to see, would be nice if it was backlit or with a plastic floating indicator. No light to confirm you have it on, would have been better if the switch lit when switched on. The base stand also doesn’t reflect the quality standard of the rest of kettle and feels a little cheap.

On the whole the issues are minor, and would definitely recommend.

So nice to have a proper kettle. Spout, lid etc. wonderful buy. Boils quickly. It pours like a dream. Not as heavy as I expected but feels solid and has a very strong and solid base. Don’t hesitate to buy

At last a less plastic taste!!
Had a new kettle and was totally unable to drink from the water it boiled because of plastic. This one is great – much less plastic taste! Does overshoot the pot or cup if you pour while water is still mildly boiling- but if careful this does not happen.
    Very good kettle.

    Classic
Love this latest retro Russell Hobbs kettle, we had a similar type of design when I was growing up in the 60s/70s although I thought it was made by Swan. It pours easily although I have found you should let it settle for maybe 10 secs after boiling as the water can splutter out of the spout. If you wait this isnt an issue.Only one gripe I have is the water level guage on the outside is very difficult to read as to how much water is in the kettle. Its easier to use the red tabs on the inside of the kettle to measure water levels, these tabs are marked showing how many cups you can get up to the level. Another difference to the original kettle is it comes with a charging plate, much better than the old type whuch had a power lead stuck in the back.

    Excellent, beautiful produc
The kettle is a very nice, classic design. Very fast and the water pours effortlessly.
However, two niggly points that could be improved with a design tweak:
The lid is very tight and it needs a good twist to lift it off.
There’s also no little LED light built in the handle or the base to tell you that it is on.
We did not have this little light in the old days. But practically all the current kettles have either the light in the handle or built in the base. So, why not?

Brilliant kettle, almost as good as the original. Love the way it pours, someone said it splashes when it pours after boiling, this only happens if you don’t give it a couple of seconds before pouring. Lightweight, easy to fill, no annoying plastic parts to break.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the on/off switch does not always engage, I think that this will fail eventually. It is a shame that this part of the kettle isn’t a bit more substantial, as far as I can see this is the only thing that lets this lovely kettle down. I did remove the plastic filler marker from inside the kettle. One other small gripe is the very small fill indicator needs a red ball so that it is better visually.

    Retro look, retro noise level
When we emigrated to the far-flung colonies a lifetime ago, we had to part with our original Forgettle(TM) – we were told we couldn’t expect a 240V device to work on the primitive 110V system we were moving to. It turns out that it’s not quite that primitive here, and we have at least 220V available, so I installed a proper power point in the kitchen next to the stove, and had visiting family from England bring us a jug kettle. That finally died, and in searching for a replacement, I came across this anniversary edition.

It’s beautiful. It’s fast – under 3 minutes to boil a litre of water.

But it’s incredibly noisy, as you can hear in the video. The primitive stick built mud huts we live in here have very little sound insulation from room to room, and it is impossible to make a pot of tea without the rumble of the kettle waking the entire household.

It’s also too small. A 1.2 litre kettle and a 1.4 litre teapot are a poor match. This means that not only is the kettle noisy, but I have to boil it TWICE, which makes twice as much noise, to make a pot of tea.

On the plus side, jug kettles are impossible to pour from without the boiling water escaping from the sides of the lip. This kettle pours perfectly smoothly, with no spillage at all. And as a nostalgic reminder of a bygone age when I was a slender and callow fellow, it suits me perfectly.

Final thoughts – if you have a traditional English home with a traditional English kitchen that has a door you can use to shut in noises (and smells), then you won’t have a problem with this. Go ahead and treat yourself.

    Dangerous
Very nice old fashioned kettle which I bought for the old folks due to it being much like the Swan we had in the sixties and seventies.
I used it myself and was horrified to find that it is unvented, so when you tilt it to pour the boiling water the steam builds up inside and the water is forced out of the spout under pressure, this is what some reviewers describe as a good pouring action. I think boiling water spurting two feet beyond the teapot is somewhat dangerous.
The tight fitting lid does have a raised vent shape stamped into it but there is no slot to let the steam out.

    Really nice kettle
I bought this kettle bacause of its retro looks and the fact that it’s slightly smaller than most of the big jug-type kettles. I’m very pleased with it, both from a functional and aesthetic point of view. It’s quiet, fast boiling, and a very good pourer, with no annoying dribbles. I only wish it was chrome rather than brushed stainless steel so it would have matched my ancient but still pristine Russell Hobbs toaster. I got a good discount by purchasing from Amazon Warehouse.

Can you get excited about a kettle? I did..
Having spent a while trawling through pages of kettles in all shapes and sizes and getting thoroughly fed up this one appeared.
As a kid in the 70’s this was the kettle I learned to make tea for my mum with.
As bizzare as it sounds I felt a bit of love for this maybe it’s cos the world is changing so fast I needed a throw back to my youth.
Feeling nostalgic? This will sort it.
    Does it work? Hell yes.
    No lights –
    No beeps
Metal, solid on button, – new design added #cups
Just the noise I used to listen out for on the mornings to know the kettle is on is what’s going on in my kitchen now.
At 5am this is perfect. I don’t want to think about putting the kettle on or be rudely woken with beeps, or blinded by harsh lights or I don’t want anything fancy. I’ve been Drinking the same temperature water for years so why do I need a choice.
    But here’s the best bit..
Pours like a dream! Honestly, sounds like I’ve gone bonkers.

I’m in love with a kettle
( I just moved house, have bought a ton of new stuff and on the whole been disappointed with a lot of it- poor materials, badly put together, ‘cheap imports’ but well done Russell Hobbs.. stroke of genius – design, fiction and emotional connection.

This is just like the kettle we had at home when I was growing up. I don’t know why people are going on about it being small, I can make 5 large half pint mugs of coffee from this when full, and the person going on about having to fill it 2or 3 times to fill their teapot, they must have one giant teapot, must be large enough to make at least 15 navvy mugs. There are 3 red marker tabs inside the kettle at the back, this is not the max fill line, it’s a serving size and can be filled much higher than the last tab. I fill it just below the top hole for the water level indicator outlet inside the kettle if I want it full. I can see the level on the outside, all be it a little difficult at times if the light isn’t good. Doesn’t bother me there’s not an indicator light on the kettle to tell if it’s on or not, you can hear if it’s on by the sound, it’s not ultra noisy, but you would have to be really hard of hearing not to hear its on, it has auto switch off, so it’s not like you need the light. The limescale filter is easy to remove and refit for cleaning. Kettle is lightweight and comfy to hold. I haven’t found it leaking around the lid, I make sure it’s on tight, or leaking from around the switch as others have mentioned. Yes, it can splutter boiling water from the spout if you try to pour the water as it switches off, but give it a few seconds and pour slowly for the first second or two and its fine. I would recommend this kettle, the best I have had. It’s well designed, easy to fill, not heavy to lift, even when it’s full of water. The lid is tight, but not so much you need prise it off, my grip isn’t great at times, but I find no problem removing the lid. Strange it has a polished stainless steel lid, but a brushed body, no nasty plastic taste either with it being metal. Hope this one lasts as long as the original one did.

It's a Kettle and it boils water fairly quickly.
I like this kettle, it looks the business and doesn’t take up much room on the kitchen worktop.
Has a filter inside just underneath the spout which at first was a bit fiddly to remove clean and replace but now i can do it first go. Bit noisy when first boiling but i don’t believe anyone has yet invented a silent boiling kettle..
Holds upto 1.2L if you need that much.
Does have a cup measurer inside for 1,2,3..
And also a measure metre outside.
    Automatically switches off once boiled.
Everything a kettle is supposed to do.
One thing though when the kettle boils an switches off give it a second before pouring otherwise the likelihood is hot water will spurt from the spout, but that’s only common sense isn’t it.
Invest in some descaling thingy and clean when necessary.

    Beautiful nostalgic but..
I’ve knocked it down a star because of two things, it’s capacity being only 1.2ltres and there’s no light.

I work with earphones in and have always used the light on the kettle to know when it’s done. Not having this incredibly simple addition is disappointing. Also the capacity is only about three mugs of tea. It’s getting filled all the time.

It’s a lovely kettle. Quite, beautiful in looks and sturdiness too. The pour is as smooth as velvet, I’ve never bought a kettle like it. We did have the 1970,s versions which I remember well and it has a lovely nostalgic feel to it.

The base plate seems a little light but hasn’t been a problem so far. Would I recommend.. yes, would I buy a slightly bigger version with a light on, yes.

And do get one of those little descaler balls which lives inside kettles as they do work if your waters hard, our last descaler ball turned green and solid it had that much lime scale in it.
