Exactly what we needed
My ageing though still functioning toaster had been using our kitchen floor as target practice for far too long, and I was fed up with having to put a cage over it every time we had toast! Time for a new one. When I saw the Sage had a gentle, motorised lift function it seemed the obvious choice. Well, it has now graced our toasting corner for a couple of weeks and I’ve tried everything on its menu, and we are both delighted with the results. With lovely big, deep slots, it makes seriously good toast (you do have to experiment with the timer of course) and crumpets are the best we’ve ever had. It’s not long since I bought the latest Sage microwave, and am really happy with that, too. Good stuff from Sage!
Excellent - No Noise and great toas
It looks good. It’s easy to use and the toast comes out perfect. The mechanism to take the bread down and up makes no noise and there is a gentle ping when done. Best toaster I’ve had.
Expensive but have had no complaints ye
Bought for parents’ christmas present so going on what they say about it. They haven’t had to clean it yet but it is very easy to use
Doesn’t fit a warbies slice
A slice of Warburtons medium sliced bread does not fit fully despite someone stating it does when I asked a question. As you can see from the photo and video I’ve added it missed the top (only just) and it doesn’t seem to brown even on both sides.
I did some Warburtons tea cakes afterwards the device was tripping my RCD. I found that a large current or raisin had got stuck between the cage and the element causing it to trip.
Still I like the toaster and would recommend it. It is pricey for a toaster considering I could just spend 20 on a toaster that would do the same.
Great toaste
Great toaster, does a good job and repeatable toast, the have a look button is genius as is the bit more button.
Love this toaste
This product is amazing love it the only thing was I bought it at one price then a couple a days later the price dropped by 50 spoke to Amazon basically said tough.
Enjoy toasting
After reading some poor reviews I was relieved that the toaster was performing brilliantly. Not sure about the usefulness of crumpet function as I like mine toasted on both sides.
Glad I spent a large sum of money for a functional and highly technical toaster.
BEST CRUMPETS EVER
Some may say it’s a lot of money for a toaster but how much do you value your taste buds.
Crumpet mode switches off one side so you get fluffy nomumental parcels ready to soak up entirely too much butter.
It’s repeatable, the digital timer although clever does not make things complicated – once you know your favourite setting then it’s easy to get that every time.
It’s powerful and will burn your ‘everything’ if you do as my family usually do and set the time to high.
It’s thick (and THIC 😉 ), takes generous wedges from an uncut deli bloomer and toasts them to perfection.
This however leads me onto my one gripe, its not deep enough – so in the middle of said deli bloomer the slice barely fits into the slot (what first world hardship we must endure).
Motorises action is novel but it does have a practical purpose, no more do I hear the family slamming the lever UP whilst trying to catch the toasted items.
The dogs are officially unhappy as no more free food after a failed ‘catch’
Worth the extra, fine for well over a year now...
Used for over a year now so I can give a considered and expedited view. This is a true 5 star product. Yes it’s a bit expensive but it’s a quality bit of kit and it’s nice to have something a bit special / cut above the rest. No issues at all re using, the functions are useful and it takes any bread I’ve wanted to toast. Crumpet mode is fab and gives an excellent result (and I’ve toasted a couple of hundred in it so far). Brilliant toaster and well worth it.
Great looking and impressive toaster!
We already had a SAGE (Breville outside the UK) coffee maker and kettle and were really impressed by them so we decided to upgrade our toaster to match. It has 4 slots but you can set different toasting levels 2 at a time so we have it set up for our two different toast preferences! What is really slick is the motorised descend and ascend function (a luxury I know but it is very smart!). The control you have on what level of toasting is very precise and it is easy to keep clean and looks very smart on our work top. A great buy.
Really good, but not as nice as it looks in the pictures
Really good product – functionally that’s how all toasters should work. My only little note of slight disappointment is the picture certainly creating an impression that the toaster is made of brushed metal. In fact it’s decent quality but still just painted plastic.
Fantastic
Lovely toaster – easy top use – great toasting settings
Excellent product! Would’ve been 5⭐️ but...
Excellent toaster, very nice and had a premium look. It toasts evenly, and offers a range handy flexible tools making it a great addition to any modern home. My one issue is that it doesn’t match other smart products like the SmartKettle, poor planning from Sage on that but overall a very good product!
Great toaste
Sure it’s over engineered, expensive and looks at home on a spaceship, but it’s also the best toaster I’ve ever used. Just make sure to only use the crumpet setting on crumpets, it will burn your bread …I was curious.
This toaster is brilliant, touch button drops the toast in to the slot to cook and then the motor brings it back up when it is finished, no crumbs flying all over the place, just a gentle glide and then a bleep to tell you it is done.
If you use bloomer style loaf, the slices are a little longer than normal, if you use the Quick Look button, it brings your toast up and gives you just enough time to turn the toast over and then toast the end that hasn’t been toasted. You also have a Little Bit More button, this gives you about 30 seconds, more cooking time to give you a darker colour. It is the best toaster I have ever had, I would highly recommend this to everyone, who enjoys a nice piece of toast.
Love i
Great, easy to use and makes great toast. Like other reviews state, if you set too lo you may find a bit of uneven toasting but beyond that, think it’s great.
Marked down for value for money because, well, its a toaste
BRILLIANT!
We have had MANY toasters over the years (including Dualit) but this is the best by far.
We looked at lots of reviews before buying yet another toaster which did what it claimed and this is absolutely brilliant. Looks good, toasts evenly (and the whole slice!), cooks crumpets perfectly (as long as you put them in the right way round!), and has the “bit more” setting, which is fantastic because when you use it, it doesn’t start from the beginning again over-cooking the toast. Frozen setting works perfectly too. Have also toasted sandwiches in toaster bags and again, came out perfectly. Have recommended this already as we have loved it from day one. So pleased we chose this one. 5 stars all the way!!!
100% awesome
We love this toaster! It’s by far the best one I’ve owned, without doubt. It’s toasts both sides equally, evenly and quickly.
100% awesome, if not a little expensive.
Good Produc
Brought this as a Christmas present for my sister liked it so got one for myself good product does what it says on the box or watch the video….only problem I’m eating a lot of bread 😉
Hi tech toaster.
Excellent toaster, bit pricey but it is a good bit of kitchen tech.
It is written on top of toaster which way round to put crumpets i
Xmas present for my husband & he really likes it. The best thing about the toaster is the different options ‘quick check button’, ‘a little bit more’ & crumpet button. It toasts just as good as any other toaster I have had.
Thumbs up
This is an excellent toaster that can be relied on to toast evenly, regularly. The price is a little crazy but you don’t HAVE to buy it do you. The toaster looks good, the crumpet setting is clever (making one side of the slot hotter than the other) and the electric carriage to lower and raise the bread is a touch of luxury. Certainly the best toaster I’ve owned and I would buy another when required.
It toasts, eventually.
This is a good looking machine, for a toaster. It’s solid, well made and easy to use. The motor that sinks and raises the bread is nice but it’s just a gimmick. But then why shouldn’t a toaster have a bell and a whistle? The problem is that, even on full setting it just produces just off white bread. Do that same bread for a second time and you will get golden brown toast that is crisp and crunchy. Pity you have to toast it twice to get there.
Sage toaster compliments the Sage espresso Nicely
The Sage Toaster compliments my Sage espresso machine nicely. The controls on the toaster are very useful especially the “little bit more” so that you never burn toast ever again.
Grea
Very easy to use easy to keep clean good to look a
Toaste
One star deducted for the price. but everthing else is more than worthy of 5 stars.
It toasts evenly, the functions are useful and not just gimmicks, would i buy again ? YES
Good quality item
Great item I have Recommend everyone have one in the house
Grea
Very expensive for a toaster but great great quality and very happy so far.
Ease of use!.
The motorised lowering and raising the bread etc. is a great feature with no risk of the toasted item being ejected onto worktop/floor.
The finished item is top quality both in design and manufacture.
Brilliant Toaster so Versatile
Excellent toaster, so versatile. There’s a great video reviewing it on YouTube. It’s not cheap but the build is excellent.
Good looking
Looks smart and enhances the kitchen albeit I’d have preferred it to have been the same colour silver as the coffee make
Pro toaster!
Very cool toaster which goes well with sage’s other kitchen tools.. i love the lit up ‘time left indicator’, the quick look option and a little bit more option.. blows away all other toasters.. true, more expensive and more things to break, but i wouldn’t change it!
/a
Excellent quality of toast, with ability to view toast as it is being toasted!!
Never heard of Sage
We bought a sage kettle and liked it, so we decided to buy a toaster after several flops including Dualities. This one is great sometimes does not darken first time. but this depends on the the Bread.
All toasters do pretty much the same…well they do, but not as good as this one, its pricey yes but as with most things you get what you pay for, especially if you are really into your toast and want it done perfectly.
The way it automatically lowers and raises the toast is Progress as far as I’m concerned given that toasters haven’t changed much since I was in short trousers, its nice to see a product that has advanced in operation and design to reflect the passage of time and technology…a small thing but sets it apart.
As for what it is actually built for, my Mrs was sceptical when I bought this but even she has admitted it made the best slice of toast she has ever had…even, crispy but still moist in the centre without being under done, we find setting number four gives a nice even just right result.
So to conclude, if Luke Skywalker had a toaster, this would be it, Impressive, most Impressive….
Fantastic toaster ….functionality is very neat. Bought it twice and returned the first one I bought as Amazon dropped the price again to 120 less 24 hours later, and no longer offer price amendments for this. Definitely wouldn’t have invested at full price so waited for it go on sale. The bad bit: it’s a different shade of silver and different finish to the kettle. Bit annoying, I bought both thinking they’d match and they really don’t. Up to you whether this will bother you. Just can’t understand why the designers would have got them matching for this money.
Started off well and cooked 2 slices of toast perfectly on 3rd attempt the motor on left side would stop going through the lift/drop cycle. Searched online for a fix and even that didn’t work. So guess I’ll just stick with my old manual one where less things can go wrong
Excellent quality and toast consistently well.
This our second purchase of this model which we bought for our holiday home. It works well and once you get the setting just as you like them it toasts consistently well. Other toasters we have owned were a but like roulette. The “Bit More” setting is useful whilst you are getting used to the toaster, but once you’ve got it sorted, you’ll probably not use it much.
Great toaster if a bit expensive. I saw one of these at a hotel once and being a gadget freak had to have one. I mean, once the mortgage has been paid what else do I spend my money on!
Very happy with this beautifully stylish toaster. Very well made and looks the part. Toast done to perfection every time. Highly recommend l. This is the second Sage product I have bought and highly satisfied with both, so much so I’m gonna restock my kitchen with Sage electrical items. Saving for a Sage touch coffee machine next as it looks amazing.
Motor driven magic
I could watch its smooth electronic motor driven operation all day long. The next best thing to having a servant to toast your bread 😉
The first good toaster I've owned in 12 years
It’s not perfect but it’s the best toaster I’ve owned in the past 12 years and I’ve had 7. I don’t change toasters they just die – often the soft white metal combs that push the toasted bread out of the slot get too feeble to accomplish their task. Why manufacturers persist in using this metal is a mystery. The Sage toaster is still working and everything does what it should.
This toaster is the nuts and produces the most uniformly coloured toast from any toaster I’ve owned over the years. Love the fact that you can press the ‘little bit more’ button so you don’t have to start a new toast cycle if it’s not done enough to your liking. No more burnt toast!
his is the best toaster out there
If you can spare the money, this is the best toaster out there!
We had a Breville motorised toaster for years which was the best toaster we ever had. This is a Breville branded as Heston Blumenthal. It is good but doesn’t brown evenly and one side cooks faster than the other. It is good but very expensive.
We looked for ages as a motorised toaster is much better than a manual one, we waited until it was bundled with kettle which save us nearly 100.
Smart toasting for smart people 😊
Best toaster I ever had. It produces even toasting over the whole bread, it is easy to tweak results with smart “frozen” or “a bit more” buttons, looks beautiful and modern. I got this from UK because I wanted a black one and just added a socket adapter for Sweden.
Amazing!!!
Amazing. I have never enjoyed making toast so much! You still need to get used to the time setting depending on the type of bread you use and additional slices will toast a little quicker as it is already warm but that is where the quick look feature helps. Could do with a beep option to tell you when it is finished as the mechanism is such high quality you don’t hear it “popping” up. My children have taken to making their own toast now that I finally don’t mind doing it for them!
I love this toaste
I love this toaster. My husband is disabled following a severe stroke and he has gained some independence by making his own toast safely. I like the options of various browning levels. The fruit loaf setting though, we no longer use as we found it burning due to high sugar content . Expensive yes. But a solid, reliable toaster.
Expensive but worth i
Used a different version on holiday but this had better reviews. They are right, great for toast, crumpets crusts and from frozen. Expensive but worth it.
Perfect toast every time
My wife was hesitant at first (blatantly refused to use it) but after experiencing how easy it is to keep that toast rolling out in the mornings (family of five) I know she loves it. A bit pricey but works as expected and looks good too.
Crisp and brown and eve
Excellent toaster – Fantastic crumpet mode (ooooerr missus) and they don’t get stuck (had it for 8 months now). Very good browning too.
sage toaste
Toast just as you want it every time I wish I had brought this years ago thank you sage
Brilliant Stylish Toaster (could do with longer slots)
Brilliant toaster, looks great and the function buttons are really useful (I love the ‘a bit more’ button). My only negative comment about this toaster is that I could do with the slots being a bit longer but I think this is standard for all new toaster. We use fresh loaves from Sainsbury’s and they don’t fit in sideways and the bread pokes out of the top when its the right way up…this is where the ‘a bit more’ button comes in handy as I turn the bread round so its toasted all over!
Not toasting this one! (........updated)
Not sure why all the rave reviews on this one. I’m suffering from uneven heating elements so toast not cooked on both sides the same – perhaps just unlucky with the one I got. But the build quality feels light and flimsy too. The real reason Im writing a review here is the size of bread that can be toasted. Whilst it will accept thick bread you will have to cut largish bread to size if you want it entirely toasted.
Updating my review (stars 2 to 4)>>> this toaster is better than my first knee jerk reaction. I’ve come to live with cutting very large slices to size. The thickness of bread you can fit is ample – no problem with baguettes for example. The evenness of toasting also seems to have got better. So now no complaints!
Eureka a toaster that toast properly!!
Might be expensive but its a fantastic toaster and worth the money as it does the toast to perfection and all at one touch. My husband thinks its great being able to see how its doing and press the bit more button if its not done enough. All in all it does what it says on the box.
This is the best toaster I have owned.
It actually toasts the bread evenly, and you can make it toast to differing levels of brownness – you are not restricted to uncooked and burnt, which seem to be the only choices with some other toasters.
There have been some nice design thoughts too – e.g., crumb trays that pull out at the front (so convenient), and a visible count-down to when the toast is going to pop up (tremendously helpful).
The gadget quotien helps keep it fun too – the kids love it, and the technophobe grandparents can operate it without trouble.
This is an expensive toaster, and it took me a long time to convince myself to buy it, but I am very happy. Really can’t fault it, and will definitely make me consider other Sage/Heston appliances in the future.
is a great toaster, a bit overpriced as it is in ...
Breakfast will never be the same:); just kidding, t is a great toaster, a bit overpriced as it is in essence a breville rebranded with Sage making it a lot more expensive than the same Breville model
Good but expensive
Very pleased with this toaster doesn’t dry out the bread possibly could do with a louder finished warning would of given 5 stars only the price is high for a toaste
Toast as it should be
Nice feature is the progress lights. Toasts evenly and well.
Pricey and some wag suggested it was a cut price time machine a while ago. Have yet to discover that button but in the meantime the toast is lovely.
This toaster is wonderful, amazing and pretty too. Not a lurking presence on my work top but an item of beauty and with wonderful little features like a button that says “A BIT MORE” and another one saying “A QUICK LOOK”. Easy to use, with slots that are wide enough and you can use the toaster as a 4 slice or only half of it as a two slice toaster. I love the way the toast gently elevates and most importantly is beautifully cooked. Timing is easily variable and this is such an improvement on the ugly Duralit ones.
Easily five star, I love it.
Elega
beautiful looking toaster and does an excellent job, love i
How they changed their tune and now admit that this is the best toaster eve
This purchase caused much hilarity in our household as I was accused of going for the high spec and no real benefit. How they changed their tune and now admit that this is the best toaster ever. Much better than Dualit – the toast is delicious and so easy to get it right every time.
Five Stars
Very friendly toaster. Convenient features. Toasts evenly. A real pleasure!
Fantastic
The ultimate toaster. Cost a little bit more but works an absolute treat – have not managed to burn anything yet !
This thing will suck you bank account dry when buying it, but it is a joy to operate. It also produces great tasting toast. Yes, it does taste better out of this, and both sides are evenly brown, unlike a cheap toaster we had that toasted more on one side than the other. I’m building my range of Sage products. They ooze quality and are well built.
Glorious Toast!
No more burnt toast! Perfect toast at a push a button!! The “a bit more facility is great for adjusting your toast to your personal preference. A fantastic buy!
BEST TOASTER WE HAVE OWNED
Here’s why:
Toasts well and consistently even.
Quick look function that raises the toast to see how it’s doing without interrupting the overall timing.
Little bit more function if your toast needs…a little bit more.
An LED light indicator that measures the time left.
Automatic rise and drop – no more pushing down repeatedly.
Fantastic brushed finish which is easy to clean and provides a cool wall.
I know from reading elsewhere that this is a brand from Breville and some people take umbrage with this but if a manufacturer decides to offer a premium product via another channel and it delivers then surely thats shrewd and should be applauded with the subsequent improvements filtering through to all elements of the business?
The only downside is the price and this will ultimately be how the toaster is measured. I’m hoping for 5 years of use for my money – watch this space!
Great toaster one that really does the job..
This is the best toaster I have used, it’s toasting action is high tech but does a lovely job of toasting, great but highly recommend this product..
Brilliant toaster.
Maybe slightly gimmicky and it’s certainly not cheap, but it really does produce the best toast ever! So it’s well worth it.
Sage Toaste
This is a Rolls Royce of toasters! It was highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Next day delivery as promised and well packed. I would definitely recommend it.
We all love this, the only thing ...
is that as it doesn’t have a traditional lever on it I am a little concerned that there are a lot of things that could go wrong with it! It works really quickly though, looks great in our modern kitchen, is of good quality and gets lots of oohs and ahhs from out friends. We are very happy with it.
I’m very particular about my toast and I had to try several toasters before I finally settled with this. I experienced two Sage toasters that were lemons, went for a Dualit which ended up being wired incorrectly, before I went back to this Sage.
The other reviews have stated the way this toaster functions. For bagels though, I think this toaster tops the rest of them. I ordered the 4- slice Dualit NewGen and even without the wiring problems, I realised that the toaster only toasts one side of the bagel and does not warm up the other side. The Sage one does and this means your bagels/crumpets stay warm till you finish eating them. With the Dualit, the toast is cold before you even get to the 2nd slice!
I noticed the uniformity of toasting was better with the Sage than the Dualit as well. There are definitely improvements which could be made on the Sage but if you’re trying to make a decision on the best toaster out there, this one definitely is. Have used it for 3 months now. It comes with a 2 year warranty compared with the 5 years for the Dualit. My husband and I decided though that we would rather have a toaster that made perfect toast and buy a new toaster if it breaks outside the warranty period!
I won’t repeat what’s already been said, so here’s my brief list of pros “neutral points” and cons:
Pros:
– Independently controlled slots (two pairs) which means you can toast different items at once, or leave them pre-set to however you like.
– Wide slots. If you love your doorsteps then this toaster will amply accommodate your extra girth!
– Countdown. If you’re impatient like me, you’ll appreciate the countdown LEDs at the front which show you how long you’ll have to wait before you can cram deliciously toasted delights into your impatient face.
– Even toasting. So far, everything I’ve toasted has come out really evenly. Hopefully this won’t change over time….
“Neutral” points:
– “A little bit more”. Handy, but I think once you’ve got the timings right, you won’t really use this feature much (unless you frequently use different types of bread).
– Quick look. Same as above. It’s a handy feature, but once you’ve got the timings spot-on for your usual breads, you won’t really need to check on it.
Cons:
– Size. The toaster is quite deep, which meant I had to re-arrange my counter tops so it wasn’t wasting too much space (it’s now angled in the corner). Something to bear in mind I guess.
– Odd shaped bread. I’m not sure if I’ve seen this mentioned anywhere else (perhaps it’s just me being picky?) but a bog-standard slice of factory bread won’t fit vertically, you have to lay it on its side. For those of you who have bread makers, this “may” be an issue if you bake XL loaves (which result in tall slices). I’ve not had a chance to test this yet, but I have recently bought a Panasonic bread maker, so I guess I’ll find out soon enough!
– Price? There’s no mistaking that this is a premium priced toaster…. I shall be expecting toasted perfection for many years to come!
Overall, being a bit of a breakfast fiend, I think I can justify the extra money I threw at this toaster. If you’re perhaps a more casual breakfast eater and have limited counter-top space, your hard earned cash might be better spent on a lesser-model (maybe the 2 slot model!)
I’ve been using the Sage 4 slice toaster for around 6 months and am just updating this review.
Well; I haven’t had a problem so far. The machine is still in excellent condition, doing exactly what it should, and it’s been well used over the last six months.
What I like best about the toaster is how quiet it is, no clunky levers to push, and once the toast is ready it glides out of the toaster rather than crashing out. The LED timers are a nice addition and there’s a gentle ‘peep’ to let you know when your toasted product is done. If you use the ‘quick look’ function the toast will rise up out of the machine, without the elements switching off, so you can alter toasting times without the machine cooling down.
The toaster has 4 slots, two on each side, with both having their own set of controls. The slots are wide enough for very thick bread but; in my family a ‘doorstep’ is much thicker than the slots allow for and I toast those under the grill. I’d also have to mention that most loaves are too tall for this toaster. The slots are wide but not particularly deep. Either you cut the slices is half to toast or you use the ‘quick look’ function and turn them around half way through. There’s also a tendency for this particular toaster to scorch thick, hand cut slices of bread because they fit too close to the elements. I realise some, or all, of these niggles happen with any toaster but with a product in this price range any little fault quickly becomes an irritation and is worthy of a mention.
The toaster is designed to look good and to make toasting anything from thin bread to frozen products foolproof with little or no effort on your part. Yes, you’re buying into a design concept with a celebrity chef endorsement but this is a great gadget and, apart from a few very minor niggles, it works hard and works well.
Does it make toast taste better?. Toasted products are noticeably more crispy on the outside and softer on the inside than they were with my old toaster and the cool touch outer casing means I don’t burn my fingers in the rush to get breakfast on the table.
I wouldn’t want to go back to using my old toaster. I wouldn’t want to use anything different. That’s the best, most honest, recommendation I can give.
Now this toaster is a piece of kit. I love the way that it is all done by a push of a button that just gently glides the toast up & down. It has really cool buttons called ‘a quick look’ and ‘a little bit more’ which means that you can just have a sneak peak to see if is to your liking & if not just press a little bit more and voila perfect toast. It has even got a defrost & crumpet setting and I just love the way that all the buttons light up and flash! It is pricy but certainly well worth it as it is an ingenious well made toaster. I am glad I choose the 4 slice in the end 🙂
