Pleased with this!!!!!! After using my daughter’s shark, I decided to replace my old vacuum with this
Still getting used to it but loving the power and style of this equipment!
Lightweight, great suction, brilliant for pet hairs. Love the adjustable settings for deep carpet/rug, carpet and hardwood floors. My previous shark would stop working on my shaggy rugs, this one is a beast.
Have always had a Dyson but reviewed this on various sites and it’s butter suction and more versatile
I love my Shark! I have a GSD who sheds constantly and every day it fills up, has amazing suction, it does a brilliant job!
Anti hair wrap feature is very useful and works well, I can feel when the roller needs taking out.
Nice narrow head gets in small spaces easily.
Easy to see when it’s full.
Only annoying thing is the lead is on the RHS instead of the left so gets in the way a bit.
But ultimately an excellent product and I am now converted from Dyson to Shark
Very strong suction makes all cleaning operations including fur and hair excellent.
This hoover is the best one I’ve ever had I’ve had the VAX turbo pet upright and many other different makes it was good it didn’t pick up the hairs that well and got stuck round for a bit now bit brushes Bear in mind I have got two great big massive golden hairy retrievers the hairs a shed well I can make two other dogs from it I have six cats and one Canadian wildcat and he leaves his aunt Fanny uncle John and the rest of his family everywhere lol lol lo so this Hoover is just wow it’s amazing it’s the best I’ve ever had and I am very fussy so you want a hoover that does the job properly and extremely well I recommend this one I highly recommend it you won’t believe it to give it a try woo woo
his thing almost took my hand off when I tested the suction, no all joking aside it’s the most powerful vacuum I’ve ever used, bagless, lightweight easy to pull apart and put back together and it goes anywhere you need it to.
This is an excellent hoover in everyway easy to use as handheld to do stairs. Great suction for carpets and hard floors. Easy to empty no need for bags but you do need to make sure when putting handle back into hoover after using to do stairs, for example, that you make sure it clicks in properly.
This is my second shark hoover and I can’t fault it. The suction is amazing! Definitely would recommend.
For stairs Easy manoeuvring and and extra long power flex
Best hoover I have ever had. Easily illiminates pet hair. Easy to use and empty. Highly recommend.
Love this cleaner , it comes apart for going under tables and for stairs. Cleans really well. Has a long lead and easy to manoeuvre. The only disadvantage is, as I have a bad back, if I clean the whole of downstairs I find I’m starting to ache as it becomes quite heavy, (I was used to a cylinder cleaner before and not an upright. But saying that the pickup is great and much better than my previous cleaner. I just just take my time over a few days to do the cleaning, the carpets look great, and the fact it has a light in the front which helps to see into the dark corners, this far outweighs my back problem and easily remedied by taking my time to clean over a few days. All in all its great value for money.
My husband loves this it’s slightly heavy for me but I didn’t realise my old hoover wasn’t picking up as much as I thought.
Shocked at how good this vacuum cleaner is. Did all my due diligence before purchase and it’s lived up to expectations. Very happy
Researched for a while before buying. The price was reasonable (compared to other brands) and it works really well. Only had a couple of weeks so can’t speak for longevity but it is definitely powerful and easy to use.
I’ve had just about every brand and can honestly say this is the best in my opinion. However, it is on the heavy side, so anyone looking for a lighter vacuum should probably avoid this model. The rechargeable version is also excellent and much lighter, I have both.. Hands down better than Dyson for me.
Fabulous vacuum cleaner, not light weight, but am more than happy with the performance, great for the stairs, easy to use and assemble.
Brought for my daughters new flat . She loves it easy to use and easy to store
Having moved from a cordless Dyson to this vacuum I am very pleased. Lots more power, lifts the pile on the carpet so it almost looks new. Very easy to empty, great manoeuvrability with all the tools on board. The turbo heads to do stairs etc are extremely powerful and do a great job. The whole machine feels very well made and sturdy. Having used a cordless for many years I do occasionally feel the cord is a pain but this has a very long cord and it doesn’t really effect it’s use. Just a matter of getting used to it again. All in all I think this is an excellent buy and I am very happy with my purchase.
This vacuum is the bee’s knee’s, it does everything you need, great price and great produc
I am amazed at this cleaner. I had vacuumed my carpet twice the day before and shampooed it. My Shark vacuum sucked up a whole container of dust. It’s quiet, powerful and so simple to use. Amazing value. I look forward to a lovely clean house now.
This is all you would want in a vacuum. It is also like having 2 or 3 vacuums in one. All i can say is try it for yourself and you will very pleased with the results.
Not the lightest but once it gets going it’s easy to push. The benefits outweigh the disadvantage by loads. Many accessories, easy removal and emptying. Don’t bother getting the more expensive cordless version, I just returned that. I decided to give Shark another try after the utter disappointment with their cordless vacuum, so this was a pleasant surprise.
Don’t normally review items I purchase. Only had this vaccum a week but I’m super impressed with the amount of dirt and dust it vacuum’s up. We have a puppy, hence puppy fur over the carpet, not anymore. It’s a little awkward to get used to pushing the vacuum but doesn’t take long to get the knack. More than pleased
Roller stays clean. No fighting to get hair unwrapped from it. Amazing suction power. So so easy to switch from floor to stairs. We’ve always had Miele vacuums. This is our first Shark, and we love it. No more bags, easy to empty, super easy to use. Nice long cord.
Great suction and easy to use. The anti hair works really well, as haven’t had any problems unlike my previous vacuums. Also thought the lights were a gimmick but they are actually a helpful addition.
Does exactly what it is designed for. Faultless.Plenty of suction and good for hard floors.
Just fot this Shark and it fab. The suction on this is really powerful and easy to set up and glides across the floors no problem. I can’t believe the dust we collected in the hoover. Definitely recommend this
Very very heavy I used it twice and gave it away
I had vacuumed the previous day with our Dyson DC06. Always been impressed with it, even more so, considering the fact it’s battery powered.
But then my Shark arrived!
This photo is of what was collected in my living room alone. And while a lot of it is carpet fibres, there is also a huge amount of dust……and either way, clearly shows how superior the Shark’s suction and brush system are!
My Wife couldn’t believe it!
I look forward to getting around the rest of the house now!
Ps. Yes it is a lot heavier and not as manoeuvrable as the cordless Dyson……but comparing them would be like comparing a sports car, to an SUV. They do different jobs and need to be different sizes.
We have had many vacuums over the years, the most recent being a Henry hoover.
We have a golden retriever who sheds hair continuously. If you have one, you’ll know what that involves!
Even though the Henry has good suction power, it just couldn’t properly remove hairs from rugs and carpets. You could hoover the same spot ten times and still not put much of a dent in the state of fairness!
This brings me to this corded Shark liftaway cleaner, pet version.
It’s a game changer! We were shocked to see the sheer volume of hair and dust that it picked up from our rugs and carpets, that had already been done with the henry. On one rug that was about 10 feet by 6 feet, it filled the canister twice! The anti hair wrap works perfectly and none of the dog hairs seem to get tangled anywhere.
The shark is surprisingly compact and I like the way it sits neatly in a corner when not in use. Its just really well designed.
If you’re looking for a vacuum to deal with dog hair, I don’t think you’ll find a better one.
As I’m restricted from pushing heavy Hoover’s around. This one is excellent. I change the strength of the suction, and it’s perfect for me.
Great hoover for cat hair wanted one that will just hoover over cat hair just the job, great suction, would highly recommend.
It lives up to the hype!
Although when used as a single unit, it is actually quite heavy, I find this reassuring as it feels like it’s a well built machine. Make sure you have it set according to the floor type (conveniently placed on the handle) and this will make a difference – to both it’s effectiveness and how it handles.
Very good suction, easy to move around and easy to remove from the base for stairs, cars etc. The tools that it comes with work very well and it is easy to clean. Not only does it handle dog hair well, it copes with my daughters 4ft long hair and doesn’t get all tangled up. So far, I can’t fault it. Let’s hope it lasts as long as my Sebo did before which was over 20yrs.
Quieter than other models, exceptionally long lead, lightweight and with the ability to remove the main body it is very easy to use. Suction power is quite incredible
Best vacuum iv had in a long time..great suction and brilliant on the stairs, brings my carpets up like new. Bought my daughter one and she loves it too
It picks up dog hair especially if you don’t think there is any there.
The Shark vacuum was recommended by my carpet fitter. I had a Kirby then a Dyson before. This Shark model is excellent for stairs the cable is 8m log , so I was able to clean from the round to the first floor in one go, the vacuum transforms easily and cleans so well. The attachments are clever one transforms, they fit neatly on the vacuum so they are available when you need them.
Brillia
I have multiple pets, floor is carpet. It does great job cleaning, also i wish it was less bulky and easier to use.
This is our 2nd shark hoover, replaced original due to age.. great suction and light and mobile while hoovering.
Highly recommend
Great product, very powerful and efficient. Good price and quick delivery
Great vac picks up loads even more than our previous Shark!
smaller head though.
I was overwhelmed with emotions after hoovering just 1 rug.. disgusted and excitement, very addictive piece of kit! Stairs are so much easier to do, although I need to sit it on the stairs as for me, gets a little heavy. So far I love it!
This is our second shark cleaner, I hope it lasts as long as the last one (7years) the anti hair roller is a great improvement on last model. Good suction for cleaning carpets. Easy to manoeuvre around furniture.good attachments for hall and stairs.
Had Dyson, now found this, far superior in many ways. Lighter, CAN use on stairs, car, everwhere. Adjustable suction power, a great help on curtains etc. Very pleased with purchase.
Does a great job, much better than the cheap vacuum I had before. Also, everything was packed in paper instead of plastic, which I appreciate
Awesome power , pulled up dog hair that dyson didn’t touch but do find the container much too small and empty it multiple times. Smaller head size than I was expecting but overall really good
Strong suction makes it heavy to push and feel imbalanced, excellent upper arm exercise
Having had dyson dc01 and then a dc14 for many years, the 14 started to have lower suction through the main head but was still fine through the wand. I checked and couldnt find any obvious blockages. Looking at current dyson models, they didnt seem as well made so decided to try a different manufacturer.
Got this directly from shark.
It has very good suction and is lighter and quieter than the dyson and slightly better balanced for carrying upstairs. The various sections click together very well and seems very well made. The lift off feature makes cleaning the stairs and under the bed very easy. The light is also useful and the pet head is ideal for doing the stairs.
The main head is about the width of the old dyson and the dust collector is very small and im probably emptying it three times compared to once from the dyson (even taking into account the dyson’s current loss of suction). While everything is clearly labelled and the buttons are easy to get to, such as adjusting the floor type and on/off switch on the handle, we miss the different coloured buttons on the dyson as they were quick identifiers for those visually challenged. The hose is quite short and i find the body tips over too easily when using the wand.
One of the heads is cleverly designed so part can be easily removed but the small pet head is more useful but doesnt clip onto the vacuum cleaner which is also a pain.
I miss the old dyson but while its a compromise in size, this is certainly better than the current dysons so i hope it lasts as long.
Very powerful, but a bit heavy, does wonders for the carpets, but the anti hair wrap doesn’t work as well as it should, but a great vacuum cleaner.
Works well, good suction lifts all the dust/muck. However, having had cordless for several years I find it so heavy and difficult to move about, I realise it is me who has weakened using my cordless ones and my age, I will keep though as it is really efficient. I just hope I get used to it. Fortunately I live in a bungalow although to do stairs seems rather easier.
Easy to use nice smart design love allextras Great suctionpowerful great for hair and pets
I thought my carpets were clean until I used this. Efficient, reliable, impressive. We normally have a nightmare with long hair wrapping and this hasn’t occurred at all with this.
his shark is absolutley brill for a fantastic price of 189 from 349 sucks like an ant eater leaves nothing behind a little bit on the heavy side but what this shark can do for 189 it’s worth every penny. 10**********
The shark is fantastic but for me with a bad back, wrists and thumbs, it can be difficult to manoeuvre round obstacles but would recommend it anyway, as it does what the description states.
Bought this when our Dyson died and we prefer it
Good suction and very flexible easy to use.
One gripe the cable comes out of the right hand side not so useful if you are right handed
Great suction for pet owners. Easy to use and not very noisy either!
Definitely recommend
This is a quality piece of kit does literally anything replaced my stain with it it’s amazing
I used to have a Numatic Hetty Hoover and that wasn’t even that good. But this hoover is so good it is about 1200w and the other was 650w, it’s so powerful great product. You can also switch it in to different floor modes like: Hard Floor, Carpet/ Low Pile and Thick Carpet / Area Rug. It is not that noisy too which is excellent This is the best vaccum I’ve ever had so far.
Great product. Really good suction as we have 4 dogs picks up there hair no problem. Only downside is the length of the hose to do the stairs could be longer.
Really pleased. Great suction and deals with pet hairs with ease ( 3 furry dogs)
Good vacuum cleaner -has more suction than any other vacuum I’ve owned
The Shark arrived about three weeks ago and is very impressive. The build quality is very good and it does what says on the box.
Really good vacuum that gets up more dirt than my dyso
Very impressed up to now with my new Shark vacuum cleaner. The suction is excellent. My only slight reservation is that I find it a little difficult to manoeuvre because the suction is so strong, this isn’t a criticism but due to a painful wrist it is a little awkward for me personally.
It really does its job well though! Love i
It’s a perfect hoover for me. It’s working great for carpets and for everything. I have a toddler so worked absolutely great for cleaning the salt from my carpet .
My best purchase of the entire year! So powerful, easy to reach all the corners – the house has never been cleaner!
Really glad I bought this hoover. Suction is amazing. One room almost filled the tank and I’d only hoovered the day prior. If I had to be picky, it’s a little on the heavy side, but totally worth it.
This was a present for my daughter who has not stopped singing its praises. She cannot believe the amount of dirt and hairs this has unearthed. Suction power is second to none.
Bought this to replace my Dyson, quick to assemble and easy to use.
Extremely happy with my purchase. The vacuum is more powerful than I expected, I was surprised to see how much dust and dog hair was trapped in my carpet. My carpet looks new ! The “lift away” makes cleaning the stairs very easy. Some reviews said the vacuum is heavy and hard to manoeuvre but I haven’t experienced that.
It’s soo good for picking up hairs, dust and all sorts. The very good thing about it is that the hairs don’t get logded in the brush and roller bit. The suction is very powerful I use the mini roller attachment for my bed and same again no hairs getting lodged into the roller brush. Seriously good you won’t believe what it picks up until you look at the bin, you couldn’t see what’s on the carpet until you finished hoovering
After the disappointment of our last Dyson, I thought I’d try a Shark as everyone seems to favour them these days. First off, I probably made a mistake in going for the higher power version. If you’ve got moderately thick pile rugs or carpets, you’ll have forearms like Popeye pushing this thing around. Really hard work, such that my partner simply can’t use it. Much better on hard floors, where it’s easier to push and quite maneuverable. I particularly like the lights that help you see into corners and under items. My biggest bugbear is when you are using the wand. As the motor and hose connection are quite highly placed on the unit, the high centre of gravity means that if you stretch the hose even a small distance away, the unit falls over. In practice you have to hold the unit with one hand and the wand with another. Not ideal, and again it’s pretty hard work.
Overall, I’m a bit disappointed. I expected a better experience. I’m not sure I’d go so far as to say avoid it, but don’t be tempted into the higher power version unless you’ve hard floors throughout.
Easy to use and easy to split so that you can do the stairs
Nothing to dislike everything is amazing the suction power also it cleans up what you think was clean and wasn’t I was amazed highly recommend this to anyone
Brilliant hoover. Very heavy though, picks up everything. Brilliant for stairs, long hose, long power lead, certainly makes your work out..
Extremely happy with this vacuum. The suction is great. Don’t have stairs so can’t comment but I would imagine it would be perfect.
The best hoover i have ever had. Love it. The only down side is the pipe attachment clip is ineffective. Small irritation for such a good performance.
The only comments I would make are
There is nowhere to store the tools
The width of the cleaning head I narrower than expected.
Neither of these things detract from the product too much
The best vacuum cleaner we have had in 40 years. The most efficient and cost effective solution for the home.
I think this Hoover is fantastic suction power on it is really really strong it’s easy to manipulate up and down Des I’m so pleased with this machine
No dislikes at all , awsome for hoovering up pet hai
Very versatile, great suction, anti hair wrap fantastic really works. Only down side a bit heavy.
I absolutely love my new Shark! I’ve never spent so much on a vacuum cleaner, but can honestly say it’s worth every penny – I cannot believe the amount of dirt and hair it sucked out of my carpets on its first use! At first glance, it looked tiny, and I wondered how it would cope with a large carpet. However, it steers! It’s incredibly manoeverable so you don’t have to keep moving furniture to accommodate it and it’s light weight and easyto manipulate. I currently have it on its lowest suction setting and it glides easily between carpet, hard floor, door mats and even dog beds without losing suction or eating anything it shouldn’t – my previous hoover sucked up the edges of mats and vetbeds, blocking up and making it hard to use effectively. It really does pick up hair and dog hairs without them wrapping round the brushes! And the pet hair attachment works amazingly on the stairs – in fact the whole lift away function means stairs are easy. My previous Hoover had a similar attachment but it never worked, grinding to a halt as soon as it encountered dog hair, so I’m really impressed with this one. It has quite a small capacity tank, but it is simple and easy to empty when I’ve finished using it each time, so this isn’t an issue. I have only one criticism and that is that the pet hair attachment, being an extra, has nowhere to attach to on the body of the vacuum cleaner when not in use. Given that the model I bought comes with this attachment as standard, I feel this is a bit of an oversight. A minor detail, though, and I wouldn’t mark it down because of it.
This hoover is the best purchase I may have ever made! It arrived yesterday and I set straight to testing it out. We have a cat and a dog, and their hair gets really deep into our carpets, in order to clean them usually I would spend around 2 hours brushing them with a rubber broom before hoovering and even then it would only look cleaner and not clean.
I didn’t use the rubber broom before trying this out, I just went straight for it with the shark, and honestly, it’s better than I could have possibly imagined, my carpets look brand new! I used the pet attachment on the stairs and that was very loud but did a great job, the lift away aspect (which I wasn’t particularly interested in when purchasing) is brilliant, I went all the way up the stairs and did the landing without unplugging.
The anti hair wrap (which I wasn’t really expecting to work) worked amazingly, you can see from my photos how much hair and fur was on my carpets and there was nothing on the hair wrap afterwards!
I saw some reviews saying it was far too heavy to use, I barely have any upper body strength but had no issues with pushing the hoover, or using the liftaway, the only time it really feels a bit heavy is if you’re picking up the whole hoover, and even then it is manageable.
Honestly I am so glad I bought this. If the performance deteriorates I’ll make sure to update my review.
Make sure to register for your five year warranty too, you have to register or you’ll only have 1 year’s warranty!
It’s light in weight, cleans exceptionally well, the various parts lift off without fuss for stairs, curtains etc and clip back together easily.
Better than Dyson by far( we’ve had a fair few of those) and much less expensive.
We got this just for upstairs after having a slightly different model for 3 years.
That one suffered a split hose which was VERY fiddly to replace. Bought part on eBay and got instructions from YouTube. Now works fine
I could have kissed this vacuum. The last decade has been awful in terms of having a vacuum that can cope with copious amount of hair from my two Pugs and trust me they moult!!! I had THREE vacuums and they were all useless as couldn’t get hairs up. I tried shark cordless- red light came on constantly it was ok on the laminate floor but carpet oh no!!! Then i had a cordless Dyson purchased 10 years ago which was every bit AS GOOD AS the modern SHARK cordless. I then tried my VAX dual vacuum and carpet washer – again ok but useless on hair!!! So alleluiai found this vacuum. Its a lot heavier than cordless but worth its weight in gold. The bag was completely full in such a short time – full of dust and dog hair!!! Hopefully my bad chest will ease off once the dust is vacuumed away!!! I wont buy cordless anything again. Ive tried all sorts and you cant beat the POWER of electricity!!!! I actually enjoy vacuuming once again !!!!
The Shark is easy to use, has some interesting features, and is an improvement on my Dyson. It has a nice long flex and hose, which is very helpful in a house with several flights of stairs. I was surprised when I first switched it on to see that it has lights, which make getting into dark snd difficult places easier. I have a very fluffy Maine Coon cat and, as she is an indoor cat, we have a certain amount of litter to sweep up as well as cat hair. The Shark deals with both very efficiently. Regarding the anti hair wrap facility, I haven’t found it to be quite as good as I’d been led to believe as I’ve had to unwind a certain amount (mainly cotton threads) from the roller by hand. However, this is not too much of a problem. The suction is very good and is adjustable to cope with hard floors as well as carpeted ones. Altogether I’m very pleased with its performance. The reservoir for the dust etc is very small and needs to be emptied often (or perhaps I just have a very mucky house!)
I rarely leave reviews but this vacuum cleaner has really left me stunned. I’ve been using a Henry Hoover for a while and was growing frustrated at how it was performing – I have a short-haired dog and the dog hairs get trapped in the carpets. I’ve tried deep-cleaning the carpets with product and hoovering over and over, to no avail. I purchased my mother this Shark model, and boy does it clean WELL. We were shocked at how much pet hair came out of the carpet, having only hoovered yesterday (we usually hoover daily). The carpet genuinely had so much more texture, and using this hoover has revitalised carpet that we were considering replacing. The amount of money this has saved us in new carpet is incredible. The hoover is a little heavy (feels like I’m doing a bit of a workout), but no heavier than any other hoover I have used. It’s also ideal for doing the sofa and stairs, as you can detach the dust part from the rest of the body. I’ll keep recommending this product for the rest of my life!
We have been a Dyson household for many many years and have always sworn by them but the price of this Shark drew our attention. After reading reviews we decided to give it a go. On the whole we have been very pleased. The suction is very very good and on thicker carpets is actually hard to push. Its brought the pile back up on our living room carpet which it is great. Very easy to use and the lift away function is very useful. It is also a lot lighter than the Dyson which for me is great as I have arthritis and couldn’t manage the Dyson anymore. However two drawbacks – first the cord is very short and will only do one room and then need to move it to another socket. With the Dyson cord we could do the whole of the downstairs. Second is the dust box is rather small and again needs emptying much more frequently.
This Shark vacuum cleaner certainly have come a long way since it was first launched I seems now it is a major brand up with the likes of Dyson Vax & Hoover I has got a name for itself purely on recommendation. After 2 family members bought them and raved about their performance. I have no purchased the anti hair clogging version. It arrived from Amazon and was soon in operation on my carpets I was amazed how much dirt and fluff came up out of my carpet that I thought was clean and didn’t need vacuuming incredible performance. I am very happy with that.
However just a couple of niggles The Shark looks fairly small but its heavier than it looks and pushing it around its not quite as manageable as you think. The tool holders seem like an after though and fiddly to get the tools back in the correct fitting. Other than that it is a very good machine and the build quality feels good with solid clicks when releasing pipes and the lift away body I am happy with this product mainly on its incredible performance
I got this to replace my vax and I was NOT dissapointed. Even when the carpet looks clean it pulls up so much dirt and dust you didn’t even realise was there. The suction power is amazing and still strong when the extra add ons are added to the nozzle (my vax would lose suction power if you added an adaptor to the nozzle). It is very easy to run around for a quick clean and perfectly glides across my carpet and is very flexible around corners and getting under my table and chairs. The only downside to this is that it is quite heavy so you do have to put a bit of effort into moving it around and carrying it from place to place but once you get going it becomes extremely easy to control and loses its weight. Because you can take it apart and carry the case to do the stairs it is so much easier than lugging a full vacuum unit. The cord is extremely long so I was able to vacuum my downstairs and upstairs without having to move the plug into diffent sockets around the house which is amazing and makes my life so much easier. The single nozzle is also very long which is huge relief as it is very long so I am not constantly up and down bending trying to clean corners and edges of the rooms but it can also be used as a shorter nozzle of you want to really get in deep to the area you are cleaning. The device contains alot of buttons and levers for different things but once you get used to what button and lever does what it becomes very simple to use. The dirt chamber is quite small so if you were to do a big deep clean I would suggest emptying it a few times as your going along as it does fill up very quickly (a good thing as you know its working and sucking up all the dirt and dust from your flooring) the head lights on the vacuum are a brilliant idea as you can see exactly what your hoovering up. Overall I am in love with this vacuum it is 100% the best I have ever owned and will defiantly be sticking with shark when the times comes to replace this one. Its suction power is amazing, it had add ons that are actually useful, its stylish, its easy to use and I would defiantly recommend this vacuum to friends and family (maybe not grandparents as it is heavy and they may struggle to lift and control the weight) but personally I could not be happier with this machine
I have had my Miele 6210 pet vacuum cleaner for about 15 years, and always loved it. It’s nice and quiet and light (compared to the previous two vacuums I had which were Dyson). However, since getting a dog earlier this year, it has started to smell of dog when I use it (blowing out of the filter), so I changed all the filters and the bag and washed the pipes and cleaned what I could, and then decided that I would keep the Miele for upstairs (where the dog doesn’t go) and get a Shark (as it is bagless and will hopefully be easier to keep clean and non-smelly) for downstairs.
I ordered the Shark on Tuesday afternoon and it arrived yesterday evening and I assembled it straight away and vacuumed a small area of carpet. I was amazed at what it got up from the carpet, and all I can say is WOW! The Shark has sucked up dust from my carpet that I didn’t know existed, and even more scary is I washed the carpets not even a week ago so am stunned at what this Shark has sucked up. I showed my husband this morning, and with an empty collecting tank I vacuumed a small area of carpet (over what I did last night) and he couldn’t believe what went in to the collecting tank. I always thought I had a lovely clean house (I am a bit OCD – even with a dog and cat – and husband haha – and very house proud) but clearly not!
I know I’ve only had the Shark not even a day, but long may this continue. If you are debating whether to buy one or not, I’d say go for it. Its definitely worth the money. I have debated over this for a couple of months and when it came in to the Black Friday deal, I thought “why not” and right now, I’m so glad I did – it’s definitely worth every penny.
I like this vacuum and I don’t regret the purchase but some of the ‘niggles’ that I dropped a point for are quite significant. If I was to do it again I wouldn’t bother with the powered lift-away function which is the main cause of my dissatisfaction — see below.
First the positives:
The unit is really light and has a lot of suction and in this regard is much better than my ageing Dyson it replaced.
The emptying function is really good.
The multiple disconnection points are a great idea to customise the vacuum to the current task.
The brushes don’t seem to clog up with the anti hair wrap thingy
Now the niggles:
The powered lift away function is a great idea. But it does not work like the pictures in the description. Attaching the motorised brush to a short little handle to do the stairs is very cumbersome. The unit becomes very heavy and difficult to manoeuvre. So no way you could do it with one hand and hold the body in the other.
Because the main body of the unit is very light and the concertinaed flexible hose is quite stiff it constantly gets dragged around and falls over if you detach the handle. You need to carry it like the pictures which defeats the point of detaching the hose for single handed use for up-high.
The attachments do not fit the little holders properly and constantly fall off. Unless you use extreme force to squish them down but this is difficult and needs enough force to risk damaging something, possibly even yourself.
I still like it overall though – I would suggest just don’t bother with the powered lift-away bit.
I have owned a lot of vacuum cleaners over the years, including most of the big brands, such as Dyson, Hoover, Little Henry, Vax, etc. My main vacuum was no longer working, and it would probably have cost more than it was worth to sort out due to it’s age, so I opted for one of these as they seem to be very popular at the moment. They also get very good reviews.
Overall I am pleased with it, although as the title says it is not perfect. First the good points:
1) it picks up the dirt well.
2) It is lightweight and can be used on stairs
3) the attachments work well, and it can be used to clear high areas such as ceilings
4) it goes around corners nicely, and fits into places which a larger model would be unable to do.
5) it is bag-less, which makes emptying it fairly straightforward
The not so good points:
1) it claims to have a mechanism to remove hair, but on the very first use I had to untangle the rollers by hand as it got clogged up with some long hairs
2) The dust compartment is quite small, and needs to be emptied after almost every use (not a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of
3) it comes with three cleaning attachments, but there are only two places for storage on the cleaner. This means the third one will probably get lost, unless you can trust yourself to have a designated storage space for it.
4) The vacuum tube feeds along the back of the unit, and has a fastening point to attach it to the body. This mechanism simply does not work, so the tube does not say in place and flaps around in a really annoying way whilst you are vacuuming. For me this is the biggest problem, and I nearly sent the unit back as a result. Having used it a few more times, the problem is still there but I’ve decided to put up with it as I like the unit otherwise. I think this is a design flaw, so not point in asking for a replacement as I believe the problem would still be there.
So overall I like it, but it’s not perfect.
I bought this because of the anti hair feature – my previous cleaner just could not cope with long hairs and I was always having to cut the roller free. This vacuum is very good on carpets and soft furnishings but not so good on hard surfaces. It is very heavy too. My previous hoover was a GTECH which was very good, lightweight and manoeuvrable apart from the difficulties it had with long hair. Disappointingly, it just didn’t last and despite regular cleaning of filters and rollers, it eventually “died” because the internal workings (which you cannot access to clean) got clogged up. I took it to be repaired but was advised that it would not be economical. Hence the new Shark. Hopefully this will be more robust (has a 5 year guarantee) than its predecessor. No complaints so far – apart from the weight.
Absolutely love this machine. Never thought I would enjoy vacuuming so much. The anti hair wrap is a fantastic feature, having long hair myself and two dogs I was forever having to untangle hair wrapped around the brush of my previous Dyson, not any more! Compared to my previous vacuums its not as noisy and the dogs are not bothered by it at all (got a very scatty dog that is scared of everything, now he follows me about whilst vacuuming). The collection cylinder is small and does need emptying quite often. Its amazing how much dirt and dust accumulates in a few days. The lights on the front highlight any dirt and also makes the machine look futuristic (my partner thinks it resembles an alien). It can feel quite heavy but is actually lighter than my previous Dyson so this isn’t a problem for me. Doing the stairs is so easy with the lift away feature and with the powered pet brush the stair carpet hasn’t looked so good since the carpet was laid. I cannot praise the vacuum enough and wish I purchased this sooner.
Have been using a Dyson for many years however just fed up with them breaking down all the time. So thought it was time to try a different model. Have to admit very happy with the Shark. The suction power is way more than the Dyson. The only downside of this is the capacity could be more as have to empty it more often. Also not as movable as the Dyson ball. But would I go back to a Dyson? No Shark has my vote.
I had promised myself this for ages because we had been using a cheap vacuum that kept breaking. I have a long white haired dog that casts and the shark copes with this no problem. I am delighted with the results! The lift away is great for doing the stairs and the different features are so easy to use and the headlights show that you are getting the dust and grime. It was worth every penny and the amount of dust that came out of my carpet during first use was unbelievable, definelty worth getting you won’t be disappointed.
Great Shark vacuum. This is the second that we have purchased. Bought this as an upgrade, some really good new features. The combinations to get under tables/chairs/furniture is great. Suction is of the chart, which actually makes the vacuum seem heavy when pushing. Adjust the suction power and you’ll see its not weighty at all.
There is a new switch on the handle which allows you to switch between carpet and hard floor seamlessly. Trademark Led lights remain at the front. There is now some form of rubber bumber, not noticeable to the eye really but now there are no loud bangs of you tap a wall etc while doing the carpets.
Then the colours. Really like the upgrades to the styling. A small thing that in the grand scheme of things doesn’t matter but it does make the vacuum look much more modern.
