Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMeglio di tanti altri Dac più cari e blasonati.

Consigliatissimo
PS la mia la versione V2 con ak4093

Note - I can't comment on sound quality because I spent too much time playing bass next to loud drummers. But as far as function is concerned, we love it. We use vintage hi-fi equipment from the 70's for our TV sound system and this thing gave us remote volume control, which is huge for my wife. And it at least seems to sound awesome. I definitely prefer it to the Schiit DAC.

This does what I believed impossible
I don’t quite believe what I am hearing. This little box has destroyed what I thought I knew about the playback of recorded music.

In thirty plus years of listening to and sometimes selling hifi, some bits costing Ten grand a pop, I have not ever heard anything like this. It takes the mushiest of old recordings and transforms them. My last dac was a Musical Fidelity V-dac II, a well reviewed budget item and still worth 100 on auction sites, so I thought I was fairly up to speed with ‘upsampling’ and all that. Compared to this SMSL the MF dac really is just junk.
The Sanskrit produces astonishing scale, clarity, impact, separation, subtlety, bass clarity, bass extension, bass quantity and such vibrancy that I don’t believe it. Recordings I have lived with since I was a little kid have been freed, released, clarified and renewed utterly. Forget hearing the ‘mastertape’, at times this is almost like hearing the original performance.

I have no idea what this smsl box is doing, it’s beyond my understanding, but it’s entirely good. I hadn’t ever heard musical integrity from a hifi system until I bought this. Lord knows what their pricier kit sounds like. I did not believe domestic hifi could sound this good, and I once heard a (sadly unimpressive) demonstration of Chord & ATC equipment in the Chord owners own home.

So far only been listening through an old mac and itunes without any messing about with settings. Standard Denon DN-A100 amp, REL T3 sub and Pure SAT4 speakers from the late 90’s. (My days of posh hifi currently on hold) I am a former hifi shop manager and my best man was an ATC dealer, so I know (well, thought I knew) a little about audio.

In a world where your next purchase will change your life, then doesn’t, this one has changed mine. And for under 100 it’s got to be a joke. Blooming well get one for yourself, I believe there’s an updated one out already….. Christmas!!!!

    Good for its price range.
Very good sound but not audiophile grade. It’s okay for its price. The remote control works great and it’s a wonderful feature it has volume control, you can use it as a pre amplifier. Looks very nice. I loved the feature you can put it vertical or horizontal and the display detects it showing the info in the right way.
It doesn’t have Dolby digital decoder or any 5.1 decoder. It’s okay cause is a stereo DAC, it’s just to be aware of that.

The SMSL Sanskrit 10 the more I play it the better it sounds. It add the right amount of depth to the my music. I play Jazz more than other genres, but when I listen today's popular music it handles the bass without sounding boomy. The new generation have no clue about really good music. When my son in law comes over he could believe the sound when listening to a movie in surround play through the DAC. He went and purchased a nice surround system for his family to enjoy. So I would recommend this DAC. Oh by the way the remote does come in handy you have a second option to control the sound or to be used as a pre-amp.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersRight off the bat I have to say wow. I was not expecting the change in audio quality to be so noticable coming from my other dacs. Most of my stuff is a year or more old and it is clear this last year has been a huge jump for budget audio. This mkii version sounds every bit as good if not better than a couple expensive dacs my friend owns that I have been envious of. It is so good said friend just placed an order after hearing mine to replace his bedroom dac which is a $400 dac. Compared to every ess based dac I have heard this is more enjoyable and has a better soundstage. It is a more smooth sound compared to ess and more clear sounding than the fact used if the ifi budget stuff. The mkii also beats out that loxjie d20 that uses the supposedly "better" ak4997. That one just seems to have something weird going on with it making it not as good as it should be with the dac chip it is using. If you are coming from a dac in the $100-$200 range from 6months or more ago this will be a big upgrade. The filters and remote are a nice plus on top of the performance. Some of the filters are impossible to notice but filter 5 seems to help my brighter headphones rolling off the top end and adds some soundstage. Filter 1 is the stock filter and is quick responding and clean. Personally I changed it to 5 and left it. I really like the sound I get from that filter. The rest of the filters sound really close to filter 1.

    Very good value
Really good little digital preamp. Have no complaints about the sound, features or aesthetics. Only gripes are a higher noise floor than I’d like and pops when changing inputs and file resolution. I’m using it direct into a power amp with no gain control so the noise floor is quite noticeable with both speakers and headphones. Probably won’t be noticeable with integrated amplifier systems. For 67 it’s a brilliant little device.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI like this DAC well enough, it is actually part of my "end game" setup right now. I have this DAC running into a Schiit Magni Heresy amplifier. Do not let words like "budget" or "entry level" as others have described this DAC as put you off from buying it. There are a few good reviewers who have made extensive measurements of this unit and speak of this DAC very favorably. You will notice how quiet this unit is, right from the start - it is quiet. No noise or distortion. You will get a detailed and analytical presentation of your audio through this. I have worked in music production, so I appreciate when my music is being presented to me as the original producers intend it to be. I do not like my audio to be "flavored" to be more enjoyable. I trust the artists and those who mix their music's and you should too. If you must add some "seasoning" to your audio, get this and add a nice little tube amplifier and a pair of headphones that are known to be very musical. I love the neutral and honest presentation this little box delivers and I believe you may also.

Great sound, excellent budget system compone
I’m delighted with this DAC. I have it connected to the optical out from my TV and I’m streaming Spotify, Amazon, Tidal from a Firestick HD – not the best source but the sound is sensational. Because of my setup I’m only experiencing the 48k performance so I can’t comment on 96, 192 or 384. The DAC is fed into a budget Marantz amp (PM5005) and Q Acoustics 3050 floorstanders. The resulting ~550 system sounds better than many 2000+ setups I have have heard. Lots of detail, reasonable dynamics and solid timing.

Nice little product considering its under 100. I like that the device can he positioned in The orientation of my choosing although i can imagine it being much of an issue on a device of this size. The only issue I have encounteres is controlling the DAC with the remote.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGuter Sound und zuverlässig
Dankeschn.

Had an old pair of HS5s around after upgrading to HS8s. Hooked them up to my old computer monitor using a basic audio HDMI extractor and was unimpressed. Bought this (admittedly mostly for the remote) and was blown away. A HUGE improvement over the cheap audio extractor (which is still providing the audio from HDMI, this time to TOSLINK and so hopefully not processing it at all). The volume adjustment is both subtle and responsive with a huge number of levels that begin to change rapidly after a small delay. The remote also works with other SMSL devices if you have any. My desktop SU-8 remote worked dandily while I looked for batteries (not included with this device). I did try to use it as a USB DAC with my Note 9 and Nintendo Switch, both over USB C to micro B, and neither worked. My only complaint is with the inputs; it always seems like another TOSLINK would be more useful than a coaxial on every DAC I've ever owned (Schiit Modi, SMSL SU-8, FiiO E10K, FiiO BTR3, Creative G3 all top out at a single TOSLINK). Great value for money, outstanding sound and features for the price, and would make a great desktop or bookshelf DAC for a smaller system (this and a powered pair of monitors is a great start to a mini hi-fi or secondary system).

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI Find This DAC Perfect For What I Need.
    What a great little DAC!

I have been looking for a budget-friendly DAC for oh… about a week now.

I was all set to get a much more expensive unit but then I happened across this one. This little guy is for my PC so I don’t need a full-blown, professional, $500.00 plus DAC to drive a REALTEK sound card.

I read almost all the reviews and was impressed. Of course, reviews can be deceiving (as we all know by now) so I skipped over to YouTube and checked out some videos on the DAC and it got really good reviews. What really got me was the extra micro-USB power I could add to the DAC so it was not struggling when decoding 384 bit. I just plugged in my extra Samsung phone micro-USB charger and walla! Works!

I also loved the fact that this has various multi-inputs: USB – Optical – Coax. I use the USB for FLAC files and the optical for Gaming and MP3 files. To top it all off, it has a freaking remote! What sub-100.00 dollar DAC has a remote?

    Color me impressed.

    Sound! Ahhhh….. the big question.

All I can say is I have paired this with the SMSL SP100 Headphone Amplifier (little dude!) and it sounds really good! I mean really good. I was surprised at how good it sounded. Like…DAMN! That sounds really good. The soundstage is about as good as you are going to get from a PC sound card. Trust me. I have been in IT 25 + years. This is as good as it gets with motherboard sound.

Decoding – terrific. You do need a driver from the SMSL website but its, download, install, reboot, set sound settings in Control Panel, done. Like…5 minutes total.

Some of you might be asking “Why do I need the amp? I have one already!”.

Well, Amazonians, here’s why: The SMSL AMP has the key piece I personally needed.

Like a lot of you, I have a few different pairs of headphones. However, most AMP’s only have one output, the headphone jack (Yeah, you could use a splitter but…ugly). The SMSL SP100 Headphone Amplifier has a neat little feature that a lot of the other AMP’s I looked at did not. The AMPS Inputs are actually joined internally. One is an Input AND one is an Output. I know, confusing especially with the marking on the back of the unit both saying “Input”, but hear me out.

Since both the AMP’s RCA connectors are “joined: within the unit, the input from the DAC out through the headphone jack allows the SMSL AMP, volume, tube sound, etc…to be heard. The OUTPUT RCA (the second set of RCA jacks on the back of the AMP) is tied to the Input RCA and provides no volume or amplification. Sounds bad, right? Wrong! Since I have multiple headphones this allows me to use a second multi-port AMP connected to the SMSL amp via an RCA to 3.5MM cable and not “double-amp” the sound. It’s just a simple passthrough to the 2nd AMP. You can see it in the picture above. It’s the black amp, bottom left.

So, I now have TWO amps. One I can use for my critical listening (SMSL) and one I can use for my speakers and other headphones. The beauty of this setup is I get the DAC decoding, filtering, and sound to BOTH AMPS!

The clarity and sound stage is VERY good. I’m not going to tell you this is the best setup EVER or your head is going to explode because of the sound but for a PC, to me, it’s exceptional. I simply do not need anything else. I have the gaming sound (optical), the FLACDSDMP3 sound (USB 384 bit) and the plugs for multiple headphones. Simple!

PHEW! What a relief. Great sound across the board to all my headphones and speakers without having to play the “un-plug and plug-in game”.

    I love it.

I highly recommend you consider this little guy (and the AMP for that matter). Great, semi-inexpensive (everything, units, cables, etc…under 200.00 total) DACAMP combination. Just a great PC setup. Oh, and you can get everything you see in the pictures above right here on good old Amazon.

Hooked this up to my Sony ubp-x800 Blu-ray player since it does not have an analog out. Sent the coaxial signal to the dac and the analog to my headphone amp. Works great and the volume control with remote is a real + allowing you to adjust headphone level.

    Works like it should.
I purchased this to fix a problem I had. I have a headphone amp that I’m was using as my output signal to my studio monitors. The problem was the power switch to the headphone amp is on the back of the unit which makes it a real pain to turn on and off every time I want to hear the monitors. Plus, the headphone amp gets really, really hot when left on for long periods of time. So my fix is now to use this as my output single to the monitors and when I shut down my PC it goes to sleep as well. So no more pain turning on the amp and more so turning it off. It also sounds great too! It has no hissing or popping when turned up loud and no cracking sound when turning off or on, which I experienced with other units similar to this one.
I would recommend this to others.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHigh quality Dac with outstanding soundstage
Quality Dac with brilliant soundstage and audio detail. Listening pleasure.

Updated after months of listening. The Sanskrit is incredibly good value. Beautifully balanced in its presentation, though lively and detailed, it has bought a whole new level of listening enjoyment to my music collection, and to the discovery of new music. I particularly enjoy the USB input, from which I am getting true high quality audio, even from mobile phone and tablet. Matches well with my vintage amp and Klipsch speakers. No listening fatigue, just musicality at its best, especially for the price. Don’t hesitate, you won’t be disappointed.

I could use it very little time, because the remote control stopped working, and this is the one that allows to regulate the level of audio output. Despite having returned, I think it is a good DAC, but I would like that also had a manual way to control the level of output on the computer itself. After analyzing other options I'm thinking of reacquiring it, it seems that the problem I had is an isolated and non-recurrent fact in other buyers.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis is decent sounding DAC with a lot of options and connections. You don't see many DACs with a remote and volume control. The built quality is great! This DAC using the AKM chip and has a unique sound, but you will need to see if it matches well with your speakers. It seems to highlight the bass and roll off the highs, which is fine if your setup needs help in those two areas.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersCrystal clean sound, very quite background. If you want a hifi decoder with this price, that is your choice! Volume settings and input selection and power on/off status can be kept even you disconnect power.
