SuperHandy Pole Chain Saw Cordless 20cm with 20V Battery Pack, Extension Pole Chainsaw for Branch Cutting and Tree Trimming

    In the box.
The main saw, pole, battery and charger. Instructions for safe use are supplied. The saw head is adjustable so it is easy to angle it to cut award facing branches.

    Set up.
Firstly, charge the battery which takes around 2 hours and gives around 20 minutes of cut time. Put some chain oil into the oil pump reservoir. You need this and need to check it after every use as this lubricates the chain. Failure to add oil will result in a quickly worn chain and poor cutting performance. Check the chain tension and then you are ready to go.
Next adjust the saw pole to the height that’s comfortable to work with. It’s now ready to go. Spare chains are easy to fit and readily available.

    Safety.
I always wear a hard hat when using saws and cutting upwards and thick gloves. I use many types of chain saw from these battery ones to large petrol ones and all of them can hurt you if not used correctly. Also, don’t stand under branches when cutting them!

    In use.
This saw is quite powerful for a battery one and zips through small branches with ease. I have used it to tidy up Sycamore trees on my small holding. Being a pole saw I can reach the thin long branches from the ground which saves me lugging a ladder around etc. I am quite tall and this pole saw easily gives me a 10-foot height advantage. It will go a bit further, however at full extension it is quite heavy and unbalanced so I would not recommend it at full extension. It also flexes a lot fully out.

    Overall.
This is a good pole saw when used correctly. It is ideal for small branch work. At full extension it is a bit unwieldly to use so I would only go to around 10ft in practice. It saves ladder use with a small saw and runs for about 20 minutes on a full charge. So far, I have been unable to get a spare battery for it which is a negative for me. It is easy to set up and use and I have done quite a few hours with it and it has performed perfectly on the cutting side.

I’ve been using this pole mini chain saw cutter to cut branches off an elder tree that over the years has grown up in a tight space between the back of the garage and the back fence. The tree is about 25 feet in height and has a spread of approximately 12 feet. The branches are about 4 inches in diameter and, being elder, quite easy to cut. This pole saw has been perfect for the job, easily cutting through the branches without any problems and I’d recommend to anyone that needs to cut branches that are out of reach and where the ground is too uneven to securely site a ladder. It is obviously top heavy so does need some strength to hold but I found it manageable. It seems well made and durable, is pretty straightforward to use, and overall I can’t fault it and am happy to recommend.

This is a handy item to have, but perhaps not for everybody. In common with other “domestic” battery pole saws, it’s not well balanced. Whilst perhaps not too heavy overall for most people, like the others of its ilk, it’s very top-heavy, and so awkward to use, although the single strap harness was fine. At least you are unlikely to want, or even be able to use it long enough for the oil or the battery to run out; one light went off on the battery after ten minutes operation.

Chain speed isn’t great, nor is the chain itself, being prone to bouncing, but this can be minimised by using the weight of the head and the useful, not to say essential, facility for changing the angle of the head to bear down on the branch being cut. Convenience in use would be greatly increased not only by a superior chain, but also by the provision of a hook for pulling down branches which get stuck. Short chains like this become blunted very rapidly.

Strarting up is also inconvenient; you have to push a switch forward with your thumb whilst pulling on the trigger; trouble is, this could be hard to do one-handed; the switch is just a wee bit too far away for convenience, and if you have small hands, single-handed starting may not even be possible.

It’s competitively priced, and whilst you might do better by paying more, you couldn’t be certain. On the whole, it’s probably better, safety-wise, to buy where you can try out what it feels like when you are handling it.

This is a very useful item. It has good length but not the 4.2 metres advertised. I would say 6 feet at most but still easy to reach branches in most medium size trees and be able to prune them. The chainsaw uses standard 8 inch Oregon chains so you can replace the chain without problems. Battery life seems good. A couple of hours I would estimate but I haven’t used it continuously for more than about 30 minutes. It has an oil sump for the chain oil which is very handy as all chain saws need oil and most of them dont have oil sumps, you simply spread some oil on the blades which doesn’t work very well. Cutting power seems fine for my general small garden purposes. I would not tackle the Leylandii with this but I would prune back apple trees etc. If you cant cut through it with this then you probably have a need for a proper tree surgeon. It seems very well made and of good quality. Price at 89- seems very reasonable for a battery powered unit. Obviously you need to be very careful when operating any chainsaw. Overall I think this is a good quality good value product and I am glad I have i

This chainsaw has a considerable reach. I found it difficult to hold until I adjusted the shoulder strap that comes with it. I cut the branch shown in the photo (50mm dia) with no difficulty at all. I was surprised at how quickly it cut through under its own weight. The instructions advised emptying the oil tank after use, and it is good advice. The oil keeps the teeth well lubricated.
I would highly recommend this chainsaw for its long reach, comparatively low weight and the ease with which it cut the 50mm branch.

    Great saw for occasional use

This is indeed as the name implies, super handy however I think only for occasional tricky branch pruning. With the extension at full it is quite hard to operate but that is very long and unlikely in the average garden to be required very often. Assembly was quite intuitive although the instructions refer to an Allen key which was not supplied-turns out you don’t need it so I presume this refers to an earlier version. I’ll be using it primarily for winter pruning medium to large branches on apple trees-as I do this most years I’m unlikely to need to have it fully extended. Don’t forget you need special chainsaw oil–useful that this features visible level without having to open the tank.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI love trees, have several in my garden but, as I live in suburbia I have to try and keep them from growing uncontrollably to forestall neighbours complaining about them blocking light. For some time I’ve used a telescopic manual pruning saw but I can tell you it is pretty hard work as it keeps binding and getting completely stuck. Enter the SuperHandy cordless 20cm. pole saw and my life is transformed as it makes short work of what I previously struggled with. Branches as thick as my wrist and more are severed with ease. I do find it a little heavy when fully extended but that’s something you have to put up with if you have a decent motor on the end.
I think it would have been nice if the manufacturers had included a starter pack of oil. Interestingly though I’ve been told that vegetable oil is a viable substitute and is cheaper, more readily available and better for the environment.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI obtained this item for review as part of the Amazon Vine scheme when it was priced at 116.00.

Out of the box I had very little to do other than to read the instructions, which are ok, check the chain tension, fill it with oil and check that the battery was charged: it was, and I was ready to go!

First thing first, if you are not familiar with chain saws, be very careful. Of all of the power tools I have ever used, chain and circular saws are the tools I ensure that I am most careful with. You simply have to concentrate and focus fully when using them and in particular with the chain saw check that they are set up right with the chain tension correctly set. Second, this type of saw is always heavy! You have a pole, which you can extend, with the heaviest element at the end. Just take your time using it, take regular rests and ensure that you plan your project based upon the scope and size of the job – cutting branches of a tree seems easy, but you need to take time. Finally, use the opportunity of taking short rests to check the oil level on the translucent oil tank frequently as chain saws use oil at quite a rate.

So I have awarded this item 5 stars? Yes. I have a petrol pole saw and it is great, however, it requires servicing and perhaps more importantly is heavier than this SuperHandy model. I see this item being used for smaller jobs when I have less to cut or where I need a lighter saw. The battery holds a charge for over an hour, which is good and recharges from flat it two hours: more than enough for the average job and I would suggest more than sufficient for all but the most arduous job on a very large garden: replacement batteries are also available from Amazon.

In summary, a well made item, suitable for use in a home rather than professional environment, easy to operate, uses a standard Oregon chain and replacement batteries readily available.

JUST ENSURE THAT YOU PURCHASE CHAIN SAW OIL WHEN YOU ORDER IT.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI own a hand version of this type of saw, with a blade a few inches long. This one is designed for lopping branches off trees, with a long reach. It will slice through quite large branches with no trouble. Your arms too, so be careful and wear protection, eye protection too.

I was puzzled by the instructions for tightening the chain, with a reference to a non existent Allen key, until I undid the tensioner by hand and saw that the cover fastener had two revolving parts, one of which tightened the chain. Whatever you do, don’t neglect to do this! Also, you will need to keep the oil reservoir topped up with chainsaw oil.

I like the fact that the seller points out the correct replacement blade to buy. I will not attempt sharpening the teeth myself.

Having struggled with Gardena loppers, I find this super easy to use. The loppers will just be used for very slender branches.
