Q: Do I need to turn off the grill and let it cool to start a second batch of cooking?

A: No, you do not have to switch off the grill first. When the lights flash again, choose the mode that you want. The preheating phase should be a lot quicker than the first time as the plates will already be hot.

Q: How do I clean my grill?

A: Wait 45 minutes for the device to cool. To clean the grill and grill components, use a cloth soaked in hot water. Do not immerse the grill in water or use abrasive cleaning products.

Q: Can I use the frozen food setting when cooking in the manual mode?

A: No – the cooking sensors are not active in manual mode.

We had a previous grill that didn’t have removable plates this is a game changer! Didn’t realise you can actually cook from frozen on this too. For a test we cooked some frozen sausages an they turned out so well. If your a beginner cook this is fantastic, tells you when the food is ready to go on then when it’s done going through the cooking stages, it cooked meat with an without bones perfectly well think this will be used daily, an the plates either wipe down with a damp cloth or you pop in the dishwasher easy!

Smart grill, really good for calibrating exactly the right temperature and time to get the precise outcome you want. Superb for fish. Have used for meat such as steak, chops and burgers; bacon (v good); sausages; fish; chicken (excellent); toasted sarnies. All worked perfectly. Very easy removal of the grill plates which I wash by hand but would also go in the dishwasher. I also bought a snack and bake attachment – remove the bottom plate and replace with a low-sided tray that converts the grill into an efficient and very hot oven.
Most kitchen appliances get used for a month then put in a cupboard, and then go to the car-boot sale 15 years later. Not this – it’s in use pretty well every day.

Very happy with this grill. Looked at quite a few before deciding on this one. There is a temperature panel which is fairly easy to use. It heats up pretty quick. So far have cooked a few things on it ranging from wraps/paninis/toasties/steak/chicken/onions/flatbreads/potatoes. This is by far the most used item in our kitchen.
Very easy to clean and the grill comes apart easily enough to clean down. It is a bit bigger than anticipated and sits on top of out kitchen island.

This purchase was part of an effort to eat healthier and less processed foods. We have had a cheap grill in the past but it really was tricky to get the cooking times right.

We chose the OptGrill Elite because at the time there wasn’t a huge difference between this and the standard. It has a couple more options as well.

Well, it’s been a revelation. Delicious chicken cooked to perfection every time, steaks taken off at “medium” are exactly that! And the sear function gives them the restaurant look and seals in the juices and flavour.

What has been the biggest reason this isn’t a gadget that ends up in the cupboard is the ease of use. We did read the instruction but once you get how it works there really is nothing to it. It heats up and let’s you know when it’s ready to cook and then you pop the meat on there and wait for it to tell you it’s ready.

We are going to experiment more but this and our rice cooker will now be permanent fixtures on the worktop.

We are using this for everything!

The main reason I got this was removable plates,I have cooked sausage, bacon, fish , potato slices, all cooked nicely but like all new appliances you need to practice with settings it seems very well made and is easy to use. panini and toasted sarnie really good, all in all a useful tool in the kitchen but I think it’s a bit expensive but would still recommend above a George Michael grill.

In a morning, nearly every morning, I like a good bacon buttie and I’ve cooked bacon every way you can cook bacon. This grill is probably not the best tool for the job. It cooks it well and if you like the fat to go all crispy then it does a great job and it does it really quickly. In fact, sometimes the bacon can be cooked thoroughly before the pre-heat feature has even completed. While the cooking is incredibly fast, it’s perfectly flat and its quite a bit tougher than when its fried in a pan or its grilled under a conventional grill.

That all said, I haven’t gone back to a frying pan because of the cooking speed and convenience of that for a pre-work meal. There’s also something really satisfying about seeing the fat drip from the grill and fill up the drip tray. You realise that much of that used to go inside your body. Tuna steaks, chicken, sausages all come out fine and all cook very quickly in comparison to other cooking methods. You can also get a lot on this grill. 8 rashers of bacon fit easily, 4 butterflied chicken breasts etc.

The problem for me is the cleaning! It doesn’t take long to do with the additional purchase of a health grill brush (I use the OXO Good Grips Electric Grill brush from Amazon) and the plates remove very easily. The plates are big and awkward and you’ll end up splashing the fat everywhere while rinsing it. You can’t assume it will be ok to cook something else on the grill without cleaning it from the previous time because it just imprints old food on new. I don’t have a dishwasher so I can’t comment on how effective that would be, but the messy cleaning routine is definitely my biggest issue with this otherwise good cooking machine.

Love this grill. We have our own and bought this for a friend as she loved ours so much. So easy to remove heated ridged plates for cleaning and drip tray removes unhealthy extras.

Multitude of uses, easy and self explanatory to use from touch pad. Alerts at warm up and at different stages of cooking. A healthier way to cook steaks, chicken and pork and perfect results each time. Also a frozen button for boneless meats stored in freezer. Also use as a toasties maker!

I was nicely surprised by Tefal with their OptiGrill+ XL GC722D40. Easy to use, fast to cook and very good results. My wife and I have different preferences when it comes to meat, I prefer mine raw while she likes her to be medium cooked. We have used this grill over 30 times till now and its consistency is remarkable. Neither of us has every been dissatisfied with it. The fact you can cook meat for two different preferences in one go is definitely a huge plus. Very happy to buy it, would definitely recommend to everyone. Can’t comment on the reliability of the grill since I only have it for one month.

Had it for a couple of months now, and all i can say is that my electricity bill is going crazy. I use it almost everyday. What can i do, i Love Pork Meat :)) Is easy to use and the cooking is much more faster than regular cooking . SO thats means that is getting very fast to a pre-set temp. from one of the cooking options buttons. You can set it on manual temp. Overall, this investment make me to get fat, cuz now when i open the fridge i pick some meat to cook it fast. Before i was opened the fridge and closed back , cuz i was too lazy to cook for myself :))) but now, i can still be a lazy c. And feeded :))))

I had an older model which was losing it’s Teflon coating and decided to upgrade. This new model is a joy to use. It gives accurate results every time, cooks to perfection. Cleaning is simple remove the plates and into the dishwasher no need to scrub. As it can cook at far higher temperatures than in the washer i have no concerns long term. So far i have only used it for steak and fish so cannot comment on vegetables.

Purchase of the year personally for me. It’s so easy to use and so easy to clean. You don’t even need to prepare meat. All I do is that I salt it and pepper it and the taste is wonderful. It saves a lot of time. It takes around 25 minutes from meat in the fridge to meat on the plate. 5 minutes to set it up and warm it up, 20 minutes for cooking. And you don’t need to look after it during the cooking process, or turn the pieces. Just put and than get it from the grill when the food is ready. Cleaning is super simple – remove plates and put it into the dishwasher machine.

There are couple of downsides though – it’s pretty small to cook everything on one attempt – couple of pieces always need second iteration. But it also pretty big so you need pretty big drawer to store it. Another thing to know is that automatic programs are not good for cooking medium or rare steaks – meat becomes overcooked all the time so you’ll receive medium well when it beeped about rare state. As long as you need grilled things well it’s awesome (like chicken or meatballs or fish). Maybe manual mode will do the job for steaks but I haven’t tried it yet.

    Definitely it’s worth the money.

Hi We have only had this item for about a month at the moment .Initial thoughts are it takes a bit longer to cook your food than a foreman grill .Just love how easy it is to clean the grill though. As we havn,t cooked enough different items yet ,can only review the items we have used it for so far .I like the way the automatic cooking time works ie steaks or sausages .I would say though that when it goes through the cycle for cooking steaks ,to our thoughts it needs a bit longer than the recommended time the machine says .So far so good ,but will review again some time down the line when we have tried other items of food for cooking .

We really love this grill – it cooks well, is easy to clean, and is really easy to use to provide us with great results. It’s also lovely to have the chargrilled effect on a decent piece of steak. One star deducted because sometimes things slide on the plates due to the slope of them – this is really only smaller veg though – and is not that big a problem to stop us from loving the grill.

The removable, non-stick plates go into the dishwasher and come out like new! Having a few more inches makes this grill perfect for larger groups of family and friends! I don’t usually write reviews for items – even though I should. But this item warrants it! I have had 2 of the George Foreman grills and thought they were brilliant until I decided to change and buy this one instead. It’s so easy to clean, you just remove the plates, the heat is brilliant and tells you when your food is cooked to the setting you want (rare, medium, well), does everything from meat, sandwiches, veg, fish. I couldn’t recommend this more and am so happy I switched over from the George Foreman!!

I have had the machine for a few months now and use it nearly every day. I was on the look out for a new grill as my George Foreman one had material coming off the grill plate. It also wasn’t the easiest thing to clean. When I spotted this I liked the idea of being able to take the grill plates off to clean. I was also interested in cooking steak as pan frying them tended to make a lot of smoke. I can report that it cooks steak to perfection and somehow doesn’t create a lot of smoke in the kitchen even with the sear function on. It cooks the steak to exactly what you want, it measures the thickness then tells you when it gets to rare, medium etc The grill plates are so good you don’t need to add oil to any foods you cook so very healthy. It takes a few minutes to heat up before you put food in, but once it starts to cook its very quick.

his machine makes steak perfect everytime aslong as you know the setting you like. I like medium so i remove it when its halfway between rare and medium. the plates are dish washable so that’s a big plus.

one downside is the color wheel system. I’d rather have a number system. it would be better for colourblind people and more precise.

on the good side it’s very easy to use. even a child can use this correctly.

How fantastic is this grill!! I’ve used the alternative retired boxer promoted grills and they were OK but I always used to find I’d over or under cook stuff in them.

This grill with its smart timing on the basis of thickness and programs is brilliant. My previous grill was almost never used but this one seems to be used several times a week now.

Only possible thing I can see coming up is the dishwasher life expectancy of the grill plates. This will be an expensive folly if they start to go funny after six months.

I’ve had one of these before and it lasted about 5 year before the auto sensing device stopped working, although this did not stop me from using it in manual mode. The sensing device gauges the thickness of various foods e.g. steak, bacon, sausages etc and beeps when it detects when they are cooked rare, medium or well done. The beeps sound at each stage so you know when to stop cooking when your preferred state of cooking is reached. You can still cook without the sensing device by selecting your preferred cooking state.

I am giving it a top rating in spite of the fault that developed, as my previous one was used a lot, including abroad in our caravan, so I think 5 years use was about right.

I am giving it a top rating in spite of the fault that developed, as my previous one was used a lot, including abroad in our caravan, so I think 5 years use was about right.

I have grilled everything since owning it’s just so easy switch it on select a function and that’s it beeps at you when you need to add the raw food and beeps again at the different levels of cooked. Having the removable plates means I now don’t worry about marinaded chicken making a mess. Just take the plates out and soak in the sink. Easy!

To be fair it does not cook the number of portions in one go that it says – come on Tefal be honest, well all adverts be honest.

THAT SAID – I think this is a wonderful appliance. Geoge Foreman and Panini grill passed on to a greatful user as this appliance does all that and more.. and more.. and more..

Easy to use – easy to clean with in the main a quick wipe down – the plates come off for a soak if you make such a mess – any melted to burnt cheese on the grill tastes fantastic by the way – the guides are easy to understand and to be able to cook steaks to your prefered liking rare to well done is easy – it defrosts – it cooks veg.. and more.

Well worth the money and highly recommended.

Great grill! I had a George Foreman years ago, about 15, and it was such a pain to clean kinda like a toasty press. I’ve cooked veg, steak, pork, chicken, sausages, and toasties on the grill part and I must say my steaks come out like a steak should. I’ve even taken chops out from the freezer, put them on the grill with the frozen setting a they come out perfectly. Ive cooked cheese and ham toasties on it also and was impressed. The unit tells you when, with a beep, when your meat is rare, medium rare and so on which has made me a Master of the grill!
I’ve used the pan attachment for eggs and mushrooms which did a good job but I’ll use a skillet for my eggs still. I haven’t yet cooked anything else but when I do ill update my review.
Easy to clean as the grills pop off with a press of a button and can be soaked if needed. The drip tray slides well under the grill which is great and it holds alot.
I would definitely recommend this grill as it’s so versatile my only complaint is a wee bit of grease and juice tends to get under the bottom plate somehow and smoke when I first turn it on but I don’t know if it’s just mine. It doesn’t effect the grill itself but I’m keeping an eye on it to see if I need to return it. I’m still happy with it and I’m glad I made this purchase.

Absolutely love this product. So easy to use, cooks Bacon, sausages, chicken, pork and so much more in less time than a conventional oven. Wonderful temperature controls, cooks food to perfection . Easy to clean after use. Can’t find any faults at all with this product.

Very good, and the programs are really useful. It still requires some attention, though – depending on the thickness of the steak, the “Medium” is a bit overcooked for me. After a couple of stakes one can figure the timing that works best.

As for cleaning, it is really easy to clean the plates and the non stick works like a charm. Not that easy to clean it completely on the back, particularly on the cable that connects both plates and the joints because of the meat juices that splash.

I’m starting to see some discoloration in the plates, though, which are acquiring a brown hue.

For a grill it is great, has some nice features such as indicating when your perfect steak is ready. Also very handy for cooking burgers and sausages, just put them in and forget about them until ready.

The plates are removable and slide into the dishwasher easily. Although most of the spill just wipes off easily, even why cold and dried on.

Well worth the money as George Forman grills usually don’t have the option to take the plates off for washing, although using brown baking paper can eliminate a lot of cleaning. However, the temperature control and sheer size of it make all the difference.
    Excellent piece of kit.

**TIP**: get the optional removable bottom part for making baked goods.

Waited a few months to review to ensure it was accurate. It’s been brilliant, the first month or so I think I used it every other day – novelty now worn off but fantastic for lunches at home in a rush (chicken wrap etc) and also for breakfasts, whack the sausages/bacon on – and just leave, no moving around. Very handy to have in the kitchen. So easy to wash as well which is usually the downfall of these things but no excuses that this shouldn’t sparkle after each time. Easy to wash grill in sink or in dishwasher (removable plates). Great purchase despite the novelty.

Just succulent deliciously healthy grilled to perfection meat, fish and vegetables without mess, smoke and pans to clean. Once cooled the plates remove easily for cleaning. The bottom plate has raised nodules to keep the food from sliding off the slippery non-stick surface. Supplied with lots of useful tips and cooking guides but quite honestly it is easy to use and most programmes are self-explanatory. Audible signals are clear and the lights indicating ‘doneness’ are bright. The proof is in the pudding though. Put all this technology to one side and you still need amazing food and that is exactly what this grill delivers. Professional results every time! I just wish I knew about these years ago!

I love my OptiGrill… it’s easy to clean and cooks meat and poultry perfectly. Just set it, leave it and wait for the ringer to go off… you can heave a perfectly cooked lunch or dinner in 20 min tops. Especially if you are looking to eat clean, no butter or oils needed, this baby leaves no residue behind. I highly recommend this product. It’s an everyday kitchen must have. Thank you.

We need to practice a little more, the pre set cooking times appear to under cook items. The instructions could be better even with simple things like toasted sandwiches. All in all it does it’s job and is very simple to clean/ use

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersSuch an amazing indoor grill. My husband convinced me to buy this because our air fryer broke. Unrelated, I know, but I stumbled upon this and my husband saw it and wouldn’t stop telling me how great this would be. He even said we don’t need a replacement for our air fryer haha.

In all honesty I’m so happy we went for it. So far we’ve made sausages, chicken breast, pork shoulder, bacon, tomatoes, carrots (with the tomato setting) and crispy potatoes. Absolutely fantastic. They all tasted out of this world. Personally I really disliked grilled tomatoes but these were so delicious compared to anything else I’ve tried before. And guess what! Everything came out nice and crispy just like we wanted it.

Some people said the food tastes like it’s been made on a normal bbq grill, however I wouldn’t say so. It tastes delicious but not quite the same. I’m beyond happy with the taste but just wanted to point out that you might think the same as me!

In terms of functionality – it’s super easy to use. The programs are very straightforward and they work really well & they’re quite inclusive too. Some programs have multiple cooking options such as: rare, medium rare, well done & crispy. The display is big enough to see even from a distance. The timer beeping is loud enough to hear from the other room but not too loud to drive you crazy haha. It’s also great at detecting the thickness & calculating the time for cooking. It was always bang on for all the foods mentioned above.

Cleaning – extremely easy to clean. I clean it with warm soapy water and a soft sponge and it doesn’t require scrubbing. The plates pop in and out so easily and you can easily clean them in between dishes with a paper towel. Bonus: you can’t put the grill plates back wrong because they’re not interchangeable. So nice!

Size – it’s not too big and not too small. For what it does I’d say it’s very compact for a kitchen appliance.

Smoke – it does release a bit of “smoke” which is mostly steam. It doesn’t smell bad at all – just smells like food being cooked! And I’d say it’s only steam because of how hot the grill plates are. No need to open windows to let the “smoke” go out at all. Super convenient.

The only thing I wish was a little different is – a longer cable! It’s pretty short in my opinion but not too bad. But it’s not enough take away points from the grill.

Overall extremely great and we’re stoked to have it. And we highly recommend it to anyone!

I have used this for steak, fish, veg, chicken, lamb, and macaroni cheese (with the baking tray facility) this grill is fantastic and very easy to use. I pop it under my hob extractor fan as it can smoke up depending on what you grill but it’s all part of the fun. My partner has one complaint with the steak in that the juices run down into the drip tray. He likes the juices to remain in the steak. For me this is not a problem but I know some rare steak lovers who would wince at this. I have managed to grill fish a few times – this has turned out extremely well. The thickness calculation feature is very well designed and works on all settings. Grill plates are perfect size for cooking for 2 ppl. I highly recommend this product.

I like being able to cook a large ribeye steak or a couple of burgers from frozen to well done in about 15 minutes, though I tend to leave them in for an extra few minutes because Tefal’s idea of ‘well done’ is more ‘middle to well done’ for my liking. The plates are removable and are relatively easy to wash, watch out for the nodules on top of the plates to hold the meat on as they can catch your knuckles. It’s about the size of a large family size George Foreman grill; I have it on the top of the hob on an old glass breadboard, so I can do the chips in the oven. Really happy that I bought this.

Our original Optigrill died very suddenly, this replaced it. New improved would be a great description in that it’s got extra temperature control -such as for toasties, is slightly taller and wider, easier to clean (which was a nice surprise) & cooks sausages a little longer. The original cooked sausages but they were a bit pale/ raw coloured when done which was off putting, this one browns them.

The functionality, usability and results of the grill I really cannot fault. It cooks everything perfectly, easy to clean, doesn’t cost a fortune to run and it’s simple to use.
However, all this fun comes with some dull draw backs.
First of all, storage. The thing is huge so finding a spot in the cupboard is impossible so it literally lives in the box under the stairs. With that, the power cable is right at the back rather than tucked inside the leg so even if it did fit under the cupboard, you cannot store it upright without creating wear on the cable.
Second, if you are lucky enough to find a space you can stand it upright for storage and don’t mind a bit of wear to the cable. You will have to wedge it between something as there is no lock for the lid so it tilts open.
Thirdly and this is the most annoying. The cable is only able 50cm long so I am really limited as to where I can use it in my kitchen.
My closest socket to reach is under my cupboards above the work tops and this brings me on to my forth and final issue.
The lid doesn’t hold itself open so when you are trying to open it when on a work top, you can’t use two hands to load/unload the grill.
These aren’t mayor things and in no way effect the perfect performance, just some little bitty gritty things which I’m sure will annoy you over time

A great grill. My favourite actually. The plates size means I can cook three cheese toasties simultaneouly which I wasn’t able to do in any other grills we’ve owned. There are loads of different food settings and even then, the temperature can be adjusted. It beeps and stops cooking when the food is ready. I’ve cooked all sorts in it to perfection, veg, bread meat including sausages and more. The bottom plate is tilted so fat runs into a removable drip tray. I find that all my food is cooked evenly. Both the upper and lower non-stick plates are easily removed, cleaned and easily click back into place. We are totally happy with this value for money, quality buy and don’t hesitate recommending it.

I initially purchased for my son who has a learning disability to enable more independence. Its a little complicated but with practice he’ll get there. I also had a few problems with settings, but after googling I found you sometimes have to rest the settings. This is easily done and I’ve had no problems since. It works as instructed in booklet.
Its a brilliant machine. I’ve never tasted better chicken, pork and steak. Its cooked to your perfection.
I’m so glad I got the one with baking tray as its used nearly as much as grill. I did a spaghetti bologna in the tray. Just put the meat and onions in, heat up, season and add tomatoes. Much easier as I can go to another room without worry of watching over frying pan. I’ve also done fried egg, omlette, pizza and toasties are much better than toasties machine I had. I can use any size shape bread, with any filling and toasted to perfection. There is no limit and much much quicker and safer using this. I love it. Its not been put away yet as used everyday. I’m now looking for an appliance fold down shelf as its quite big and bulky but so pleased I got it. Hopefully my son with start using too.

I've tried all types of cooking in this brilliant grill

The item was bought as a gift. This grill is a good family size, easy to clean and works well. The only comment made by the recipient was that you must read the instructions as maintaining the heat requires particular attention. Overall once you get to grips with the controls it works well and cooks food as required.
