    TL;DR buy this.

Brilliant game. Came to it late, but quite possibly the best I’ve ever played. Shows its age absolutely nowhere – plotting, characters, graphics, replayability, DLC, side quests, main quest, all top notch. Engaging mechanics that keep you trying new things at different difficulty levels, and between new game and new game+.

Even better if you’ve read the books and played the other games, but you can get by with a very basic knowledge of who Geralt / Ciri are and what the witcher world roughly looks like.

I have sunk over 150 hours in this game without a hint of regret. I managed to ruin a virtual kingdom by only focusing on the smaller picture and individual quests and slightly punishing a character who was key to restore the kingdom. Many choices will make a difference, the story is deep, the world is massive and beautiful, the combat system is dynamic and enjoyable enough to beat every single enemy you encounter.

I only had one major issue: a quest that refused to be validated. Not remotely enough to lose a star.

Forget Skyrim and play this one instead.

What a fantastic game. Hours of playtime, between 150-200 hours at least. All Gamers should own this game, just make sure you set aside the next few months of your life to play it as you won’t be able to stop.

Possibly the best PS4 game I’ve played. Story and side missions are totally engaging with great voice acting too. Persevere with the wide amount things you can do and they soon become second nature. You get the 2 expansion packs with this version too, so brilliant value as well.

The Witcher 3 has to be one of the best, and best value, PS4 games – the size of the DLC makes the GOTY edition really good value too (Blood and Wine is probably larger than God of War). The only major bugbear is that save files from the normal Witcher aren’t compatible with this edition, but everyone will know that by now.

Man, this game never gets old. Some games just start to look tired. This is one of the best RPG’s ever. Unlike a lot of its peers, it doesnt overly reward you, which means you have to work for your equipment, this in turn makes one wanting to return time and time and time again. Graphics are also still on point. Saddo that i am i have this on the PC (steam) PS4 and xbox, its also due out on christmas day 2019 for the switch…….hmmm might have to purchase as a present “for the kids” ;).

Buy this, it does not disappoint.

Simply one of the best games I’ve ever played, actually made me want to read the books. The story is amazing, matched by good gameplay.
Scenery is fantastic, the characters are all intriguing and monsters that are challenging yet rewarding when defeated.
Epic from start to finish, absolute masterpiece. Can’t believe it took me so long to discover it, amazing!
Geralt a great protagonist and Eredin, who only has a few lines, is one menacing villain.
Happily going to play this over and over to get the different endings, worth every penny.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWhat to say about this game that hasn’t already been said before? Simply incredible with a beautifully written and presented story with intriguing characters you will remember long after you finish playing. Qwent is extremely addictive as I found my self seeking out the best players in the realm to get the next best card. Take me back to the good old pokemon and yugioh days of having the best decks possible. Controls are nice and balanced and the difficulty options gives you something for everyone. I would say the game is best experienced on the death march difficulty as you really have to think about every encounter, from bandits all the way up to griffens. I love this game and I belive you will too if you havnt had a chance to experience it yet, if you have, go on, you know you want to jump back in again!

Expected it to be a bit mor exciting. Haven’t played much, ordered assassins creed origins at the same time and have pushed this one to the side. It’s just not as captivating as i thought it would be. But I’ll give it another chance. The hype must be there for a reason so we will see…

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersPure joy. A masterful work of art that is both vast and packed with tiny details, there is simply so much to do and learn and once you’ve gotten to grips with the way everything works and how to navigate all the menus and figured out the nuonces of crafting and alchemy, the game become a thrilling and encapsulating experience that I will never forget. Without a doubt the single greatest entertainment experience of my life.

(I say “entertainment” because this simply transcends the realms of gaming. Better than any game, movie or TV serious I’ve ever seen.)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat game play – more adult language than most rpg games but this reflects what is quite a gritty storyline (could cause some upset with themes I think). Very impressive graphics, voiceover and ‘acting’, good gameplay (though remembering which button does what can take some time and pressing the wrong button in the wrong place can lead to violent misunderstanding). Negatives (and the reason I deducted one star) are that the character movement can be a little nausea inducing (not something I find with other games) the load times are quite long as are the cut scenes (though this moves the story along so is not necessarily a negative though it can get a little irritating at times)

Really quick delivery. The game ticks all the boxes for me. One of my favourite open world games along Horizon-zero down. I prefer it over Scyrim because I feel more comfortable playing TPP over FPP.

This game was named the game of the year for a reason. The franchise has been getting progressively better, and the third instalment was breathtaking. The writing was exceptional, and the attention to detail put in the environment and the soundtrack, as well as the background noises, is something to take close attention to.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBrilliant open world RPG, the scope is breathtaking and the graphics are as good if not better than games 3 years younger. If you want to distract someone for a couple hundred hours, even if you’re not into fantasy (I’m really not) this game is a must. Definitely play on a PS4 Pro though, you’ll have a better time as my 2015 model OG PS4 does struggle sometimes.

  44. Celina29Rvn says:

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThis game has hours and hours of gameplay – probably over 150 when you include the main quest, side quests and the DLCs. However the story was always interesting and entertaining and the questing never really felt like a chore.

There are a lot of different possible endings based on the choices that you make. The game also leaves it ambiguous as to which choices have consequences and which don’t – for me this makes it more realistic.

You have quite a lot of choice in your character build – you can be a pure melee, rely on spells, utilise potions/alchemy or a mix of those – all are viable options.

Also, the mini-game, Gwent, which is a card game is absolutely fantastic – by far the best mini-game in any game I’ve ever played. You also don’t “have” to play it if you don’t want to, but I found it great fun.

Not as good as the hype. Very confusing combat system. Everything a bit small too much info crammed onto screen at once.

  47. Kevin Fitzpatrick says:

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis game is ridiculous value, the main thread story itself took me a month and a half of play on and off though this is someone with a full time job, and other stuff going on, and I’ve still some Witcher contracts, secondary quests and tons of ? areas to get to including the x2 expansions.

Definitely a game geared toward 18+ owing to its story, themes, various limb dismemberments and some of the romance (romance = basically plenty of sex scenes, if you play the game a certain way). Horizon Zero Dawn it is not.

If you’re into RPG’s there’s a ton of crafting of oils, potions, mutagens, character building and more .. it’s crazy. Definitely more so than your average RPG, and more so than recent releases, e.g. AC: Origins.

The visuals are good, especially on a PS4 Pro, where you can now experience the massive world and its content in HDR and higher res if you want, which of course you do, however the game is also over 3 years old at this point, so it’s no God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn in visuals. But it makes me excited of where CD Projekt Red go with the next game.

The other thing to mention is the combat has been criticised in the past, which I kind of agree on, but you are able to add skills to the character for cool sword moves. I think combat is ok, not great and gets samey after a while. I actually dislike the swimming more. There are times where the game doesn’t seem to let you do what you want, or not responsive enough, like swimming to surface for instance…. usually this is the case if there is an enemy nearby, then forget about it. You either sort out the enemy or die… For these reasons I say 4/5 stars, well worth a go as an immersive and crazy long RPG.

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersMuch lauded game, so I won’t waste ink re-iterating the strong points.

What you should know is that if you’re a mature adult who likes ghost stories, CSI-type games and high-magic fantasy, this is absolutely the best mix of the 3 you’re going to find. The writing is exceptional, the acting is exceptional, and the way the game rewards perceptiveness and insight in the dialogue scenes is exceptional. Whoever put the stories together really knew what they were doing.

Whether you play on the easiest level or the hardest, you’ll still get 90% of the enjoyment from following the story and living with the other characters in this magical world.

Product arrived on time and after playing near 100 hours of this game I can assure you its a good game with a solid story and fun combat that doesn’t get old. Also comes with BOTH expansions which adds a fair chunk of gameplay on top of the main story.

     United Kingdom

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersOne of the best, most immersive fantasy adventure games in history. A deep, dark, adult-oriented story which changes according to your choices as you control Geralt of Rivia, the aging and cynical Witcher, at the conclusion of his story arc (which has included a series of novels in addition to the 3 video games). The Witcher universe is midway between the “high fantasy” of Tolkien and the more lurid and visceral style of Robert E Howard and this game, with its huge open world, does a superb job of capturing the grim and violent land where doing the right thing frequently means trying to choose the “lesser evil”.
If new to the saga, I would recommend checking out the Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, particularly “The Last Wish” and “The Sword of Destiny”, which introduce you to Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, Dandelion and the world they inhabit.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThis game is the best game I’ve played on next gen consoles. Incredible open world map, lots of brilliant stories to play through and a great element of choice to the game.
Lots of different difficulty levels to the game so it’s suitable for all levels of gamers.
Very strong violence and some dark themes in the storylines so definitely not a game for children.
Incredible gaming experience overall and the add on packs give countless hours of extra and superb content as well.
This will provide months of entertainment to gamers. I’ve Never played a better game and likely never will. Highly recommended!

I was about to buy the download version of Witcher III (GotY Edition) from the PlayStation Store in their new year sale when I spotted this. The price seems to vary day by day on Amazon, but I paid 16.99 which was just 1 more than the Sony sale price and I get the physical version so have something to sell on when I get bored of it.

Chances are that’s not going to be for some time though, as this thing is huge. By which I mean hugemongous. Just the ‘basic’ game alone has a truly epic, and truly open world explorable, map. Throw the Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine expansion packs into the mix, which come bundled in the GotY edition and, frankly, you are talking a daft amount of playable longevity here. The explorable map increases by a third!!!

Which is good for me as I love a game that I can immerse myself into and not complete in a weekend. Not so good for one of my lads who, after 38 hours playing on the Xbox One version, has decided he’s still got so much to do that he’s bored by it.

    Teenagers huh?

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersPreviously playing skyrim i believed for pure depth and scope of the maps skyrim would not be beated… until i played witcher 3. The world is massive the biggest seen in any video game to date, there is always quests with hidden treasures waiting between quests. Summarising this game you will not play a better game on PS4. Around 150 hours to complete the standaed game without the DLC included. Gwent in itself could be a stand alone game. Just purchase this game you will not be disappointed. Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersWithout exaggeration one of the greatest games ever made! With the greatest mini game ever made and one of the best DLCs ever made.

Main story is easily 50 hours and closer to 90-100 with side quests. DLC 1 is a solid 15-20 with story and side missions and DLC 2 is around 35 hours with just the story and 50+ with side missions included.

At no point does levelling feel like a grind and if you ever start to feel overpowered you can scale enemies to your level and above to bring the difficulty back.

    Buy this!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersProbably one of the best games I’ve ever played. The graphics are quite stunning. The level of detail is not seen in many games, especially games as big as this one. There’s so much to do that it can be quite intimidating at first, for example, I’ve put in about 40 hours so far and I’ve barely even scratched the surface. If you are on the fence about this game just get it. You won’t be disappointed.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersThis is the RPG equivalent of The Last of Us! I’m seriously hooked and have spent sleepless nights delving into the depths of this incredible adventure and I’ve only just covered a fraction of it. The ‘world’ is enormous!! It’s epic in its story-telling prowess. Bar none, one of the very best in RPG gaming!

The Witcher is at the forefront of RPG!

Still has few glitches, but I learned the hard way to save often and have 2 files so you don’t lose too much if you get one e.g. unable to climb ladders or get into a boat. The graphics are the best I’ve seen and its very playable, just needed to get familiar with the PS4 controls again. If you love puzzles and a good story in game form, this is the game for you. However, be prepared for some foul language, nudity and even a few sex options.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis game is like a large breath of fresh air, even if you’re not interested in fanatsy, magic, RPG’s and so on. I highly recommend to anyone.

I was a newcomer to The Witcher franchise when I bought Wild Hunt, and back when I heard this game earned a GOTY award a few years ago, I didn’t take any notice to it since it was a fantasy game. Yet, I was wrong.

Artistically, the game assets and overall look, is stunning, the dynamic changing weather, character and creature models, and various areas look amazing. The story and characters are interesting and intriguing, making you want to play the game for longer. And, even better, you can spend hundreds of hours in this game, a huge wealth of content, upgrading Geralt’s weapons, armour and skills, making the game highly addictive!

To summarize, speaking as a gamer that was never interested in fanatsy themed RPG’s, this game is well worth your time and money, also, I recommend getting the GOTY edition since you get an extra 50-100+ hours of even more fun gameplay!

Tho even CDPR and some bloggers said that you don’t need to read book in order to play this as well don’t need 1/2 parts of it to understand story, i strictly don’t agree with it. There are 8 books of story and 1st part of game is continue of 8th book of witcher. You will never know real story of Geralt, how he met Ciri and Yeniffer, what road he walked to be there where he was at the start of 1st book and so on. With playing game before reading book, you will just spoil yourself major key moments of book and still you will never understand what really happens out there, why Emperor want his daughter to find (game saying that reason it that emperor want back her in order to make her empress and give her all power, but that’s not true, i will not spoil why, you will find out reason in books) and so on. So to say it short, you will not regret if you will read books, play 1/2st games and then will enjoy witcher 3 in full force 🙂

It is one of the best game I played in recent years. Easily rank top 3 of my recommendation. Epic story, high replay value. The game can take you more than 100 hours.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a massive game. It has an immersive story with great characters and lovely graphics. The only reasons for not giving it 5 stars are I found the controls to be a bit clunky and the combat system is a tad flawed too. Other than that it’s a brilliant game and I thoroughly recommend it.

Im not really a RPG person as they just take up too much time I don’t have. But this game is absolutely marvellous.
Great work by the developer to completely immerse you in this fantasy world. Its big, its beautiful and challenging without ever becoming frustrating.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersReally good game, I liken it to Monster Hunter, but the story is much more immersive. Graphics are very clean and striking. Paid nineteen of the queens pounds for this, and believe it to be excellent value for money.

I’m still blown away by how amazing this game is. I bought it for 25 back in October, to tide me over for a few weeks until MW Remastered came out, note I avoided mentioning the other rubbish that comes with it. Witcher 3 is just an amazing game, its like an interactive movie at times. It has fantastic storytelling and characterisation, involving quests with genuine choices to make, and a simple but fun combat system. I hadn’t played either of the other 2, I will one day. It doesn’t matter because knowledge of those aren’t really needed. It would help with the world knowledge sure, but it doesn’t make a blind bit of difference. Its just jaw droppingly good, and the graphics are ridiculously good too. Everything about it is incredible, I can’t hesitate to recommend this to you any more, its the best (RPG?) open world adventure game you can buy for the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs far as value for money is concerned, this game is unrivaled in my collection (except for maybe Skyrim and the SoulsBorne series). I have spent over 100 hours going through this game and now my partner is going through it as well. With the DLC included you certainly couldn’t ask for better value.

There are a few niggles that i think let the game down. First, the story seems to be from the mind of a 13 year old boy – some parts dialogue are a bit laughable and a large chunk of the story is deciding on your women. Secondly, Geralt controls like an unwieldy boat – if you’re used to games like Skyrim or Dark Souls where you have good control over your character then this game will probably irritate you to no end. However, these are small comments surrounding an overall solid game with a lot going for it.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersWithout doubt, the best RPG on the Playstation 4.
If you haven’t played the Witcher or the Witcher 2 before I would recommend at least reading up on the background stories. The Witcher 3 weaves many of the events of the first two games into its storyline, introducing characters that appeared in both previous games, and plot points that are directly related to decisions you made in the Witcher 2. The game allows you to simulate the choices made in the Witcher 2, so as to preserve some of your own personal decisions in the last game. It’s not necessary, but it certainly enhances the experience if you know what occurred in the previous games.

The world is vast and diverse and the progress well-paced. As you begin to tire of riding around the vast wilderness of Velen, you are introduced to the city of Novigrad. The quests within the city, the gameplay, has a completely different character to those of the wilderness, with issues more political, actions more covert. This change in tone and pace come again once you move onto the next area, the Skellige Islands, where the vast wilderness is replaced by vast seas beneath which underwater wrecks, treasures, monsters, and puzzles, lurk in the depths.

Combat is action based, but does require some tactics when facing off against particular foes. In combat, you rely on three basic elements; your swords (Silver and Steel), your signs (magic), and potions. Swords can be enhanced at the blacksmith, coated in poisons and oils, and upgraded using runes, and combat skills. Signs consist of defensive (Shield/Slow down/Control) and offensive (Fire, Telekinetics) skills, which can be altered as you upgrade your skills to produce new effects in and out of combat. Lastly, potions can be crafted by gathering recipes and ingredients from across the lands. These can enhance your combat skills in numerous different ways, from increasing your speed, adding regenerative effects, to slowing down time. Potions, however, come at a price, for they poison the body, and too much toxicity makes you vulnerable to damage. Certain monsters are vulnerable to certain combinations, and when hunting particularly difficult creatures it’s generally best to prepare the right oils and potions for the fight. Knowledge is as good a weapon as your Silver sword.
10/10 — If you like RPGs, and you haven’t’ played this, it is a must buy.

All patches and dlc up to 1.31 are included on the dics as well as all the expansions blood and wine and heart of stone. That to me is fantastic as a game collecter and this is a true GOTY edition. Anyone who want Witcher 3 should buy this version. All the problems with the original game are now fixed and on dics too! Broken quests, and progression bugs say goodbye. I’m not writing much about the the game because there are literally 100s of reviews out there. This shows what you can have will a little patience.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThis game is one of the best on the PS4, forget upgrading to a 4K TV and buying a PS4 Pro, in 1080 mode at 60Hz this game looks a-mazing! With the 2 DLC packs and for 25 this will keep you ensconced in front of your telly for several months. The Witcher has several enormous maps, larger than Skyrim or Fallout 4. The game itself is an open world joy, after a few hours of following the plot, stock up on potions, polish your gear and head out into the beautiful wilderness. Explore dungeons, ruined keeps, forest grottoes and fall in love with the superb NPC’s, Yennefer, Tris and the other gorgeous witches. The Bloody baron missions were the ones which made me realise I was playing an outstanding game, the amazing facial animation is coupled with excellent voice talent that combines to make greatness.

Combat is ace as you can take on mobs like bandits even if they are a higher level by running in,, firing off igni or another sign and fast striking with your sword, then dodge rolling around to avoid attacks. Tougher monsters like gargoyles need a strategy to successfully take on and there is a wealth of different baddy types, from bandits to wild dogs, vampires and horny beasts. No big dragons like in Dragon Age Inquisition or Skyrim but little baby drake’s, ah bless ;-p. The DLC ‘s are of a very high standard, Hearts of Stone is a Gothic Masterpiece of doomed love and terrible consequences with the great character of Gaunter O’Dimm. It is a real shame the developers didn’t do more DLC’s or even a Witcher 4, I think they are working on a cyberpunk game for 2017-2018 release, argh!

Only small gripes were not enough ability slots to use your upgraded skills, and Geralt is too robotic for me.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThe Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is amazing, I have never been so immersed in a game world as much. The Witcher really draws you in with a great storyline.
Their is so much to do in this game it’s unbelievable. So far I have spent about 20 hours on this game and it’s still no where near complete. Graphically the game is simply beautiful, which I think adds to the whole experience.
The ultimate question is Yennifer or Triss who will Geralt End up with ? The choice will be your’s.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis game is incredible across all areas. Some of the best written missions in gaming history, side or main ones (check Blood Baron, Towerful of Mice or DLC Heart of Stone). Huge, gorgeous vistas and locations, densely packed with trees, houses and water, absolute joy to roam this world. Strong, likeable characters and their development throughout the game. Creative combat, not easy but not tough, never dull or repetitive. Very interesting NPCs, amazingly detailed monsters and their history, great balance between detailed storylines and info overload. The World of Witcher 3 is amazing, interesting, huge, complex and immensely entertaining – the GOTY edition has DLCs which are equally strong (if not stronger) than the main game. If I could have just one game to play for the rest of my life, this would be it – hundreds of hours of tremendous fun and superb storytelling, world bigger and more rich than anything I’ve ever played. Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWith the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red’s saga has grown into something magnificent. It’s a game of truly epic scale that still displays an eye for every minute detail. It’s one that sees its hero, Geralt of Rivia, fully transformed from the sword-swinging Mr Loverman of the first game into a mature, reflective hero, and one where story, systems, art, music, action and lore all seem to mesh together into one dazzling whole. It’s the best fantasy RPG of its type since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and sets a new benchmark for the genre. To be honest, that’s all you really need to know.

    Perfect game as you know.

Great story and visuals, fun exploration but generic and uninspired combat leaves a dark souls-like attack system desired

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI confess I had never played a Witcher game before Wild Hunt, as I am primarily a PlayStation player. However, this did not matter. CD Projekt Red have created a universe which draws you in instantly. The amount of thought, care and detail they have poured into every aspect of this game is an incredible feat they should all be very proud of. Thoroughly recommend it.
