Babies love these. Parents do not. At the end of every day, my husband and I play a game of find the eggs and put them in the box, and boy can these things travel. If you don’t put them away be warned – their pointy little egg shells will find the soles of your feet somehow. Nonetheless, I’d by them for every parent not just because they’re a right of passage, but because they’re a great toy.

I bought this for my first granddaughter seven years ago and decided to buy another for my newest grandchild as this toy has so much play value. As a former early-years teacher, I can guarantee that this set is an important tool for development in most areas of learning. It works on so many levels, colour-matching, shape-matching, counting, cause and effect – it really promotes fine motor control and knowledge and understanding of the world around them. This toy will be useful for many years as it eventually can be used as part of kitchen or shop play. I would highly recommend this toy to all parents of little children – you really can’t beat it when it comes to play value, durability and value for money. If toys are to be limited for any reason, this really is a “must-have”.

These are great. I don’t know why, but kids love these eggy things.
Only thing to watch out for – and by no means bad points – is that it’s a bit time consuming to put them away – especially if you have OCD.
You have to get each eggy in it’s correct compartment – they fit in a shape, so only go in one orientation.
Then, you have to precariously place the eggy shell tops on. And if you’re like me, you can’t just put the yellow top on the orange egg oh no. Got to be the same colours. So that takes a little more time. And then if you accidentally nudge them, they’re off again lol.
But seriously, I like these. Well made, no fiddly parts, the squeak is simple (mechanical) so nothing to go wrong. But top marks on the egg box – its solid and the latch is pretty good. Those eggies are going nowhere after you close it.

My 6 month old baby loves it! Too young, he cannot match colours nor shapes, but just enjoys dumping the container, licking egg shells, clapping with shells, throwing eggs, and watching shells rolling on the floor!
This toy can be enjoyed from early age, and I think he will be able to enjoy the toy in a various ways and will grow with this toy!
(He couldn’t stand the moment while I took a video of it and screamed to give it to him!)

Little one instantly loved this (15 months ). Very colourful and like the cheeping noise they make when you press them. Wasn’t aware each one has a different shape on the base so only fits in its own shape space , this is great although she doesn’t quite understand this part yet but will eventually. Love that the faces on the shells are colour coded to each chick yet fit all the others anyway as again when she’s old enough to match colours and shapes this you will mean she can play even more games with it. Really great

Had to take a few stars off for durability and sturdiness as arrived very beaten up and the hinge on the box is really white already upon arrival an not sure how long before the two parts of the lid have fully snapped off , will keep an eye whilst played with as I imagine this will be sharp.

Bought as a gift on the recommendations of toddler-owners that their little humans loved this. It’s an odd little toy really but apparently a joy to mix and match the colours, shapes, faces, fitting them back in the box and make them squeak. It went across to some friends in Morocco for their little 1 year old boy who took to it immediately and has already had hours and hours of delight entertaining himself, rather to the bewilderment of all the adults. Really solid too so should last him a long while as long as he doesn’t actually succeed in licking the faces off.

I see these eggs everywhere at playgroups and nursery. For some reason babies loves these. My daughter had these since 10 months and still plays with them at 16 months. Lots of way of playing with it – shaking the box, opening/closing the shells, making them squeak etc. Had a 9mo baby visit and all he did was chew at them for an hour. My daughter hasn’t managed to match the shapes yet, but that’s a further way to play in the future.

For all the hype, I wasn’t that impressed. My one year old expressed some interest but wasn’t too into these (stacking cups win every time). They also seem a bit fiddly (a lot of work picking them up and putting back into the box), design is a little basic and I was expecting more from the sound “feature” – they all make the same faint squeak. I’m sure they will get used! But I expected something more thoughtful I guess.

The baby loves these. Most of all, she loves chucking them off things so that I have to pick them all up again. She also loves disarranging them as soon as I’ve put them all back into the box. If you have OCD, or OCD tendencies, these may not be the best toys to have in your house. It’s easy to become obsessed with having the right eggshell on the right egg facing the right way. I honestly could have cried when a relation unthinkingly put the wrong shells on the eggs. . However, these have survived being thrown off the high chair quite a few times so I have to give them a good score overall.

It was surprising to us that the child(1year old) really enjoys them.
    The bad (the shorter one):
    * the squeezing, the moving mechanic, kind of broke down. When you push them they got stuck in the squeezed position and a grown-up has to fix it every time.
    The good:
    * after dishwashing them twice they keep their colors, only the white shells have a glance of a pink nuance.
    * they are strong at least as a lego* is. It hurts similarly when you step on them.
    * the kid loves eating them. The plastic is solid colored therefore there is no fear in eating the paint – there is no such
    * the kid loves “opening” the eggs’ shells, although they are not attached in any way, it’s fun for the kid

It’s good toy for a price and I can see my little one enjoying it more and more as she grows. 4 stars as the toy seemed to have some stains on when I got it out of box, nothing quick wash wouldn’t sort out but still bit annoying as you pay for new toy. I think someone might have given to baby play with and then changed their mind and returned the item. I just couldn’t be bothered sending it back for a exchange and waiting till getting new one. Otherwise good toy for baby’s.

My daughter is a bit young to play with these properly, but get a very excited when she sees me get the ‘egg box’ out of her toy box. She loves knocking the egg shell tops off and seeing the bright chicks underneath. Also loves to chuck them around and occasionally suck on a chick too! They are very well made and I know once she is older, she’ll enjoy making them cheep and putting them back in the right spot. It’s like having multiple toys in one!

My one year old baby loves this set he spends ages putting them in and taking them out of the box, and likes the squeaky noise when you press them and funny faces design. I can see they will still be a good toy when he’s older as each egg has a shape underneath it match where it goes in the box , plus matching the right colour shell to each egg. My niece and nephew are much older and still use the eggs for egg & spoon race every sports day! Great present for Easter instead of chocolate for young babies

For something so simple, it’s nots not that hard to believe how much these are used and loved! Whether it’s their bright colours that attract the attention more easily, or because it gives them something to do and then rewards them with a squeak. I remember my sister having these when she was a baby and her loving them, so there was no question about getting them for my young niece when I spotted these. Since she’s had them, she hasn’t stopped playing with them.

I have been pleased with these Tomy Toomies Hide And Squeak Eggs so far. We purchased this for our toddler to avoid her constantly asking for the eggs in the fridge and have found them to be quite a multi-functional toy.

Initially she used to just play with them as a shape sorter and would try to fit them back in the tray. Then she started noticing the colours on the egg tops and started arranging them so they matched too. If you press the eggs they also make a squeak sound although it does take more force then it should.

One major issue is the fact that little ones will not be able to open the egg tray themselves due to the latch design of it. It often means that my little one cannot play with it independently.

Overall though, its a good toy to have and I find my little one returns to it from time to time, even if it only entertains her for a short period of time.

I bought this for my granddaughter for her 1st Easter (she’s 6mths old) and she adores it. It’s a classic in our house as he mother had the same toy which 20years on we still have – minus 1 or 2 missing eggs (they are around somewhere so I am not going to throw it out just yet!!) My granddaughter enjoys taking each egg shell off and squeaking the little chicks and as she gets older she will be able to learn to match up the eyes on the egg shells with the corresponding chicks so this toy will grow with her for a good while yet. It is well priced, I don’t think I paid much less 20years back!

I wasn’t entirely convinced when my wife told me about these eggs and how she had read lots of positive reviews about them, however almost immediately my daughter was captivated by them (~4 months old).

She’s now had them for a few months and they are by far her favourite toy, often making her squak with excitement as she energetically “disperses” the eggs across the carpet, allowing daddy to crawl under the couch for the 5th time that day… much to her enjoyment of course!

The eggs have 6 differently coloured chicks inside, with corresponding-coloured shells. Each of the eggs also have a different shaped bottom to fit into a specific spot within the plastic ‘carton’. I’m assuming this helps development as baby gets older, and keeps them interesting to play with. It does make the tidying up slightly more challenging though!

Would highly recommend them as I’ve had friends tell me their kids still love playing with them at 18months+

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI really like this toy, it is so simple yet seems to really entertain my 1 year old and my 2 year old. The eggs have different shapes on the bottom which encourages the children to fit them into the right sections of the egg box. Each of the chicks themselves are different colour and they all make the same squeak noise when pushed. The top shells will fit on any of the eggs but the faces on the shells and colours also match the chick that is is meant to go with. I don’t think this is very clear though and doubt young children would recognise this. The box is stronger than I thought it would be, I had read some reviews that commented that the box wasn’t well made and the hinge not every good but I have found it to be adequate for its purpose. Overall a much liked toy that encourages shape sorting.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersMy 8 month old LOVES these (and has since we bought them when he was 5 months or so). In amongst a sea of other toys that he’s shown little interest in, he’ll go straight for these every time.
He loves to chew on them and he plays with both the eggs and the box. The egg shells seem a bit sharp for him to chew on and he has got a bit frustrated with them whilst he’s been teething, but he’s never hurt himself on them so I think they’re fine.
I’m not sure why he loves them… but he does!
Downside – you’ll have plastic eggs and eggshells sprayed across the living room floor every single day.

Brought for my one year old god children (twins). They absolutely love them. They do have a little difficulty getting the box open (which their mum appreciates with the mess they make!) but once in they love pulling them out and taking the shells off etc. Even I enjoyed them! Each egg has its own shape on bottom and space in box so educational as well.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersBargain! Great little toy that I can shove in our baby bag and keep my son entertained with.
The squeak is more from friction so not really a squeak perse but every month milestone I buy my son a new toy, I bought him this for his 6 month milestone and he uses it frequently.
We also have one at nursery and the children in the toddlers and preschool use it for colour and shape matching for 7 it’s great, I mean what can you get for 7 these days?
I thought the case would be flimsy but it’s quite thick hardwearing plastic

I bought this for my 18 month old nephew for Easter and he loved it. The eggs make a squeak noise by the use of a spring inside each egg so there are no batteries required. The squeak doesn’t sound terribly realistic but it fascinated my Nephew so that’s all that’s important really. I’m sure the novelty will wear off soon but as an alternative to sweets and chocolate for a very young child I thought it was perfect really!

Golden Review Award: 50 From Our UsersNeat little toy for toddlers and younger. It’s colourful, interesting and engaging for their young minds and keeps them entertained for a while. It looks just like an egg carton, and each egg with a chick inside fits into its own space.

    PROS:

Very colourful and engaging. Each egg has a different facial expression and different coloured chick inside.

Develops fine motor skills. The eggshells fit neatly on top of each chick, the chicks fit into their own space, and the carton closes and locks with a little catch. Each egg has a different shape on the bottom which slots into the corresponding shape in the egg carton.

The chicks ‘chirp’ when pressed. This is a nice little addition to an otherwise excellent toy.

    CONS:

The chicks ‘chirp’ when pressed down, but it’s tricky for little ones to make the sound come out. It takes a solid and rapid press for the noise to be made so some younger children won’t be able to do it.

There is a hole and a screw at the bottom of each egg right in the middle of the shape. This is distracting for little ones as they see a heart or a square with a hole cut out in the middle of it. This is a major design fault in my opinion because the shapes at the bottom of the eggs correspond with the shapes in the carton and the little one finds it difficult to identify the shape with a hole in it.

The catch on the carton is very tricky to open (even for myself!) My two-year-old can’t open it herself, and so always brings it to me to open. This should be made slightly easier to open.

    OVERALL:

This is an excellent toy for the price. Even though there are a few drawbacks (which could be easily rectified by the manufacturer) it’s certainly a worthwhile toy to have. We spend a long time playing with it sorting out the shapes, fitting the shells to the eggs and role playing with the chicks. I would buy this again and would certainly purchase it as a gift for a friend with a young child.

Bought this for my 11 month old son, he loves it, but not as much as I do. He’s still trying to figure how how it all works, how the pieces fit together, but he really loves it when mummy plays with it. We’ve got a game where I have to fit all the pieces into the box with shells on before he chucks them all back out again. This game gets mad, eggs launching everywhere, mummy trying faster and faster to get them all in, then wooooossshhhh, they’re all flying through the air again. Great fun, and still not beat him. It’s a fab toy though, great for our 11 month old and will grow with him as he learns more and gets more coordinated, matching the shapes and colours of the shells to the chicks. It’s a nice quality Tomy toy and can take a bashing from a crazy boy. He especially loves flapping the lid of the box open and closed and it’s not showing any signs of wear. Great toy, lots of fun!

These are meant to be a great learning toy for kids. There is quite a lot you can do with them… match the bases to the egg box, match the coloured faces to the eggs underneath, squeak them. Our son loves it when I turn them over and spin them on the carpet, and throwing them piece by piece down an indoor slide.

One of his favourite toys and one of the cheapest.

Bought these as I was looking for something a bit unique for my daughter to delevop her thinking skills. I am so glad I bought these after reading the positive reviews. These would keep my daughter busy for hours. At first aged 8 months all she was interested in doing was knocking them over and putting them in her mouth but afterwards aged 10 months she was working out how to put the eggs back in their shells and fitting them into their shaped slots. A really good buy and would recommend. The only annoying thing ( and for some thisnwouldn’t be an issue) was the shells kept disappearing under my couch which meant i was constantly looking for them when to tidying up time!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersWe love our Tomy eggs! While pregnant I had heard loads of recommendations about how good they were, so when they were at a low price one day I reluctantly added some to my basket. I have to admit I doubted the reviews as I was on a big wooden toy kick, searching for the ‘best’ and most interesting toys available and found these eggs to be rather unappealing/garish and thought they would be a bit of a ‘one trick pony’ in terms of longevity. I am pleased to say I was totally wrong though as they still remain one of my daughter and her friends’ favourite toys, even now that she is 2.5 years old!

Although the eggs seem a bit simple and boring to an adult, kids seem totally captivated by them – bright colours, noises, a little carrying case, the ability to stack/organise and then destroy (always the best bit!), and multiple layers of discovery and activity.

When baby is small they can simply remove the shell ‘lids’ and bash the eggs to get a little chirpy sound out of them (mechanical not electronic, thankfully!), or pick the eggs up and feel the zigzag shape of the shells. As they get older they like to unpack and pack the eggs back in the box, and attempt to fit the shell ‘lids’ back on the eggs in the correct way (surprisingly tricky for them, involving great effort to develop the motor skills and grip needed to rotate the shells into the corresponding zigzag hole). When they are toddlers they can begin to match and identify the colours properly, and the eggs also have shapes (triangle, star etc) on the bottoms that match to specific shape holes in the bottom of the egg box. At the toddler stage they are also of course beginning to get interested in pretend play with food toys, so the Tomy eggs double as eggs to serve on plastic toast for lunch!

These are so great that I have actually bought two further sets to give as gifts and they have been as loved by the other children as they have been by my own.

In terms of physical longevity and practicality they are also surprisingly great – no snapped plastic parts, they’re still squeaking and the faces haven’t even rubbed off. The only way they could be more perfect is if there were eco-friendly credentials and the eggs were BPA-free for the inevitable mouthing of them that takes place in the early stages.

    A must-have, especially at Amazon’s price!

I bought these for my little girls first birthday and so far they have been a great toy. I saw these at a friends house and instantly liked them. They aren’t anything fancy, but they have enough about them that offers much more than the usual plastic toy. My daughter loved them when she first saw them and will spend ages playing with them, passing them back and forth, putting the lids on, throwing them and crawling to fetch it. They are chunky enough for her to hold them (and throw them) and the box is great for keep them safe and together. She’s just starting to be able to squeak them herself and so its nice to see that the toy can offer more as she develops.

The one downside is that she gets frustrated with them as she can’t fit them in the box correctly yet. Obviosuly as she older this will become easier.

This is currently my 7 month old daughter’s favourite toy. She will play happily with these for at least 20 minutes, which is some feat given her short attention span.

Ideal for babies who have just started sitting up unaided and beyond, the beauty of them is that their use will grow as your baby does. Currently, my daughter enjoys taking the eggs apart, examining them, bashing them together and scattering them around the room. In time, this works as a shape sorter (the bases of each egg have various shapes on them).

I have taken a star off only because they do make a mess – 13 separate bits that need to be picked up and reassembled. I haven’t yet trodden on an egg with bare feet, but I can’t imagine it would be pleasant. However, the egg box closes securely which makes this a great toy to bring to Granny and Grandpa’s – no fishing around in the bottom of the bag for all the pieces.

I am amazed by how much my 15 month old girl loves this toy, I thought it was a bit ‘blah’ as an adult. This toy occupies her for good 15 mins blocks of time. Running around with chicks in her hand to put on furniture, putting shells on and off the eggs in the box and stacking the shells on top of each other (or trying to…). Shaking the box around for the rattle noise, playing with opening and closing the box, or best of all – deciding to balance one of the shells on her head (?!) . She loves it. Best 7 quid I’ve spent on a toy so far.

The Tomy Hide and Squeak eggs are a classic toy and there is a reason they’ve been around so long — it’s because they’re great! Although they look simple on the face of it, they have so much scope for learning.

Each egg has a shape on the base of it, meaning you have to match the egg with the correct shape in the egg box. This is good for problem solving and learning the names of shapes.

Each chick is a different colour, so you can use these as a tool to teach colours and the colours of the faces on the egg shells correspond to the chicks, which becomes a matching game.

Pressing the chicks makes them squeak which teaches cause and effect.

My daughter loved these from a young age — starting with just tipping them out of the box or banging the shells together, then progressing to sorting shapes and so on. She’s nearly two now and these are still played with and no doubt her baby brother will love them just as much.

Bought for xmas for my grandaughter 7months old but her sister age 2.5yrs is also fascinated by them! Baby loves banging them together and putting them in and out the box, older sister likes matching them up and fitting them in their right places. This is an excellent toy to teach hand/eye co-ordination, its interacitve and makes a squeeky sound when pressed but not too loud, I think its an excellent buy, reasonable price, sturdy and colourful.

my little girl is 7 months and she has been playing with these non stop since they arrived yesterday. she knows how to bang them and take the shells off. shes clonking them together and playing with the box. when shes bigger im sure she will enjoy sorting them and squeaking them. plenty to do. although some reviews say the box is hard to open. its easy enough for me and i dont think its any bother opening it up for your little one as they need help playing at such a young age 🙂

I bought these for my daughter when she was 6 months old and for the last 2 months she’s loved knocking the shells off the eggs, pushing the chicks out of the box and squeezing them (although she can’t make them squeak yet). She’s immediately attracted to them as soon as the box is opened and I’m sure she’ll get loads more enjoyment from them once she’s managed to make them squeak and once she’s able to put them back in the box herself. There are so many electronic toys out there and it’s nice to find a simple manual toy for little ones to play with. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone. I only knocked 1 star off because the box and eggs were pretty dirty (when I wiped my finger on them I could see the dirt!) which isn’t very good for a baby toy.

Lovely little toy – I was given these for my sons first birthday and I bought for a friends baby’s first birthday – they are too young at one ur old, but by a year and a half upwards my little one got really into it, lining all the eggs up, taking them in and out of the container and then when they get older again they can get into the colours and shapes – so a toy that will last. Only negative is it’s more pieces to be scattered around the house!!

These are a brilliant toy. My daughter is nearly one and has been playing with them daily since she was eight months old. My three year old niece loves them too. They are such an original idea and can be played with in a number of ways. There is also something very pleasing (to me as an adult) about the way the shells fit the eggs and then the eggs fit into the box – I find it quite therapeutic to tidy them away! If you are considering buying these, don’t delay – they are a bargain you won’t regret.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a wonderful little toy. I bought a set for my daughter’s first Christmas when she was about a month old, and it was one of the first toys she wanted to explore as soon as she could sit up. Even very young babies seem to be fascinated by these eggs; my daughter loved taking them out of the box (figuring out the simple catch to open it was another fun challenge) and would sit for ages taking off the shell lids and examining the different colour chicks. She’s now just over a year and still loves to play with these. Now, she is big enough to make the chicks squeak and can put the shells back together again. The eggs also have different shaped bases to extend the matching and sorting activities, and the different faces on the egg shells can also be colour matched to the chicks as well as being talking points for exploring the emotions portrayed by the different expressions. Once she’s outgrown the baby play aspect of this toy, I can see it graduating to our play kitchen for shopping and cooking role play.
I was very impressed by the quality of this toy, especially considering it is such a reasonable price. The yellow box is made of thick, strong plastic and so is very robust. I was concerned that the hinges would wear out quickly as they seem to be a weak point, but they are proving to be stronger than they look. The eggs themselves have kept their squeak, and look like they’ll last forever unless we lose a shell (a very real risk since my daughter loves to carry them around). They are a decent size too, so I wasn’t concerned about her putting them in her mouth. I highly recommend them as a baby toy – they are cheap, well made, and provide lots of opportunities for developing motor skills, colour recognition, shape matching and role play. Why wouldn’t you get them?!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Userssimple idea – great play! My children played with this toy for years and because they were so loved they have gone into the attic for future generations (hopeful) as one of the select few toys that you just can’t bear to throw out or give to charity.

The design of this toy is perfect. They will appeal to very young babies who can just grab hold of them because of the delightful noise you can make with them! As the child develops they will teach the child about shape, colour and matching skills. Later still they will fit in imaginary play.

Some reviewers have complained about the quality – mine were bought 15 years ago and were of very good quality but maybe they changed the materials.

I have now bought this on several occasion and given as toys to friends’ babies as I think all babies should own them 🙂 – a classic on par with the Fisher Price telephone, in my opinio

I have no idea what’s so special about this toy, but my twins love it and keep playing with it (from 10 months old when I first bought it, today that they are 15 months old, and probably in the future too).

They love the box that they can open and close, they love the sound it makes when they rattle it, they love gathering all the white tops and just throw them around, the love munching on the colourful parts and the little details.. everything really. I doubt they recognise there are small faces painted, maybe that will be a future surprise.

If you are looking for an inexpensive gift, that’s a certain success. If you want to buy your own kids something that will keep them entertained longer than the usual toys, that’s an excellent choice.

These are a great but for children of different ages. My 14 month old has played with them since he was 9 months, pulling then apart and trying to put them together again. He loves trying to put them back in the box. My 2 1/2 year old nephew also enjoys playing with then telling you te colours and then having you guess which colour is under the shell. They also have shapes underneath the eggs which are used when putting them all back in the box. A great toy at a great price.

I have now bought two sets of these Tomy eggs, one for my one year old daughter who loves them, and another for my one year old neighbour’s daughter.
They are a lovely tactile toy, and compact too when contained within their egg box.
My only quibble would be the squeaks! Why can each egg not have a different toned squeak? This would make them perfect I feel, hence my reason for not awarding five stars.
That, and the fact I now spend even more time on hands & knees looking for missing egg parts underneath sofas!
    Would definitely recommend though.

My son was given this for xmas. He was 13 months at the time and he loves it. It’s his favourite toy, he brings it over to me to open for him regularly. It becomes a bit of a pain to collect and find all the pieces once he has scattered them around the living room but worth it as he enjoys playing with it so much. It’s very beneficial for learning too as aswell as learning shapes, there is also the idea of matching colours, and they also squeak. I would recommend for any toddler/baby, especially for the price.

Yes, these look and feel cheep (har har) and tacky.

But my little niece loves them SO much. Firstly at nine months old she just had fun throwing the eggs around and causing chaos. As she grew older, she liked to put them back in the box randomly and squeak the eggs. Hopefully soon she can sort out the shapes/colours.

    Two asides:
    1. Until she got older and cleverer, she did run the risk of trapping her fingers in the box while shutting it. There is a small area near the hinge that is easy for little fingers to get stuck in as the top closes. We used to take the box away once she had relieved it of its contents.
    2. It hurts like hell when you step on an upturned egg shell in the dark.

We bought them when they were around 5, but the Amazon price fluctuates and I’ve seen these once priced at around 3.

he only regret about this product is i wish id bought them sooner. all 3 of my children from 20 months to 7 years old play with the eggs, i have to search around my living room nearly every night to find them all. theres endless hours of fun to be had matching the shells up to creating lovely squeaky music. the box is a lovely bright yellow that is robust and that opens by pulling the plastic clip forward, the 6 eggs come in 2 parts and are all brightly coloured inside with a baby chick design that has matching eyes to the design on the outer shell as well as matching colour.the bottoms of the eggs all have a different molded shape that match up with slots for them in the egg box which allows them to sit upright. i have bought 2 lots of these as my friends children fell so in love with the set we had it was the ideal gift for a 1st birthday gift and at such a fantastic price you wont find a better deal for such a great quality toy.

I have no idea what it is that small children gravitate towards in this product– which are small eggs that quietly squeak with quirky faces on them– but man, do children love these. I got these for my 13-month-old son after we went to a playdate and he very uncharacteristically ignored all the toy diggers and buses in the room and played with these eggs for an hour. Now that they’re in our house, he makes a B line for them almost daily, and enjoys opening and closing the box, taking apart the eggs, hitting them together, throwing them across the room, and trying to figure out how to put them back in the box– a skill he hasn’t quite mastered yet. (These eggs double as a shape sorter, with little shapes on the bottom that must be slotted into the right holes in the box.) I have a feeling this toy will grow with him, and these quirky eggs will be a part of our lives for awhile!

He screams from excitement, when he sees it, not sure if for some people it’s encouraging:-) though. I’m so pleased that I bought it, especially that it’s so cheep!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is probably my daughters favourite toy. The recommended age is 12 months, however my daughter was bought these (for easter instead of chocolate!) when she was 6 months old. Immediately she was fascinated by them but at that age just enjoyed bashing them about and knocking the tops off the eggs each time mummy put them in the box. My daughter is now 15 months and she still loves playing with them and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Now when she plays with them she tries to put them into the different holes in the box (as the bottom of each one is a different shape). She is much more interested in what is inside the egg and is now able to press the chick herself and get it to make the “chirpy” noise which she finds hilarious. My daughter knows some sign language and signed “bird” when playing with these yesterday which was lovely. I think these make a fab present and have already bought some as gifts for friends and family. I am really impressed with the longevity of this toy and think it is great value for money. Also it doesn’t take up much room in the toy box which is always handy!

I love it. My 15 month old loves it for face value – a colourful toy she can pull apart and my 4 year old plays with it too by matching the colours and shapes which will eventually help my youngest get to grips with it. I can’t fimd a fault it’s compact, well made, colourful and educational. Someone “complained” about the squeakers not being squeaky enough but to me the faint squeak sounds just like little chicks which is after all what they are meant to be. For a fiver I think they are eggcellent value :o)

Bought this for grandson’s first birthday and am told by his parents that it was definitely the favourite toy of the day as he played with it for hours. When I opened it I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy and well made it was also with the different skills it encouraged. The bottom of the eggs stay in the box and lids which have happy faces on are made so that they only fit the matching bottom, when the egg is pushed it makes a chirping sound and the bright colours add to its attraction. Really good value for money and i would have no hesitation in recommending it.

One of my grandaughter’s favourite toys from 6 months on. At first she loved the squeaky sound each chick made. She then loved taking off their shells, she learned at 18 months how to match each shell head to the correct colour.
Now at 25 months she is learning the colour names and trying to fit the eggs into the correct shape for each egg. Its a great little toy and sometimes she closes her eyes while I take off each shell, then she opens them and matches each one to great applause.
So easy to keep together in egg box that requires an adult to open, so pieces wont get lost. She is lately trying to count the eggs. Useful up to 4 years old

I brought this toy for my grandson after seeing it at a friends house. The brightly coloured eggs have proved a huge hit with the 14 mth old who loves to fit the different shapes inside the egg box and encouraging his manual dexterity. The egg box is agreat idea for keeping all the bits together

My younger grandson at 10 months is a bit too young for the product but still likes to make the eggs squeak and takes the lids off.

This is a great toy – they look a bit odd but I promise you they will occupy your little one for ages. My 7 month old got these for Christmas and has played with them everyday since. Friends children also have them and say much the same. They are also good for toddlers who seem to engage with matching shapes on the bottom of the egg into the egg box and matching the colours on the tops. They roll everywhere so we are for ever finding tops on the floor and in corners! The only criticism I have is that the hinge on the egg box has snapped already and I don’t think my son is particularly rough with toys, but it is nothing that a bit of gaffer tape hasn’t solved although it was rough when it originally split so we did have to do a bit of filing to sort that.

Got these as an extra for 10 month old sons xmas. Basically as read reviews saying how good they are, as had seen them in shops and was not that sure of them- as others say however, they are surprisingly good. My son chews and plays with them putting shell on and off whilst it has even amused my 3 year old daughter who matches the shapes and colours with them, i take a couple in my handbag now everytime we go out as keeps them amused for a good while!

  95. Anonymous says:

I agree with one reviewer that these are not the “ultimate” in educational toys, BUT, my 1-year old loves them. He throws the shells around and crawls after them as they roll, and he also likes to try and put the shell back on the eggs. He likes to put the eggs (or bits of egg) back in the box, and of course bash the chicks to make them squeak. And this can keep him entertained for 10 minutes or more, and he will keep coming back to them.

In terms of the “educational” bit there are lots for parents to try and encourage. Of course motor skills are being used to put the shells back on, or the bits in the box. The chicks are different colours so good for learning those, the shells colour-coordinate with the chicks so matching can be encouraged, and each shell has a different shape on the bottom which needs to be matched with the shape in the holder so that the egg can go in. So lots to talk about and point out, even if your child isn’t currently interested in anything but licking the eggs!

But what I REALLY like about this toy is it’s practicality. It is robust and the pieces can stand to be thrown about, it doesn’t need batteries, it comes in its own holder which makes it great for chucking in the buggy or a bag to take out, and it has enough pieces so that other children can play with it too. The pieces are big enough so that they don’t get lost easily. It is easy to clean, and it is relatively cheap so that it can be replaced easily. All in all, I’m very pleased with it, and my son has (so far) been very taken with them.

It doesn’t really look like a special toy, but this really is an exceptional toy.
Our 1 year old really loves it.
As described the “eggs” come in different colours and when squeezed they make small noises. Not annoying noises like you often get from children’s toys! Small squeaks.
The shell “lids” also have little faces which our child loves. And they all sit in a reasonably robust plastic box.
Our daughter will happily play with it for ages. She will take them out of the box and then put them back in repeatedly. Each base has a different shape so this process can take a while. So it’s one of those toys that should keep a child occupied and relatively stationary for a long time. Very very useful!
The only possible downside is that over time you start losing the lids and then a whole egg will disappear so we’re down to 3 or 4 at the most after 3 months.
Slip it into your handbag to provide you with peace and quiet on the move.
    Would highly recommend it.

My 9 month old daughter has enjoyed tipping the eggs out of the box and bashing the lids together. She is clearly enjoying discovering the different shapes and colours and they have kept her occupied for quite a while compared to other toys for the same price – however, it says on here that they are suitable from birth – and yet the packaging says that they are for 12months and above – which means I am paranoid about letting her play with them without my complete attention as she is only 9 months…I simply wouldn’t have purchased them if I’d have known this.
The ‘squeak’ the eggs are supposed to give is barely audible – it is just made by air passing through a small gap, so a feeble whistle really… I doubt she even notices it happens when you push them down… so again was left disappointed on that one… but I can’t deny that she DOES like playing with them!
Since writing the above section, my daughter is now 19 months, and I have to admit they have been a great toy during this time…so I felt the need to amend my previous 3 star review. I have since bought 3 more for friends babies, since I realise now what an invaluable toy this has become, holding her attention more than the majority of toys she has. It is a really good price for the amount of playtime she has had out of them.

I already have one of these but after 5 years, it’s gone a bit grubby so I brought one for my 2yr old who loves it. My 5yr old also loves it. It improves hand-eye co-ordination, helps with shapes and colour matching skills and can be used for basic maths (ie, one egg + two eggs = three eggs). Best of all, the chicks inside make a noise which delights my toddler when she manages to do it. All round, a big hit with toddlers and school aged children.

I first bought this delightful, brightly coloured toy Tomy Play To Learn Hide ‘n’ Squeak Eggs for my eldest grandson who lives in Canada some 4 years ago. Instead of buying chocolate for my lactose intolerant 11 month old grandson here in the UK I decided to buy this for his Easter gift. Outcome, he loves it, there are so many aspects to it – he loves to take the lids off and move the eggs from one side to the other, he is also fascinated with thebox, and loves to take the eggs in out and try to close it. One of his favourite games right now is to hold things out and drop them, this comes from his having bouncy, squeaky ball, but the point is they are very durable and quite up to dealing with little hands can put them through! He has just started to learn how to make the chicks squeak. Highly recommended fun and educational toy, very good for kinaesthetic skills in babies and toddlers.
