Truetone CS7 1 SPOT® Pro Series – Power Brick

A major benefit of using a switching power supply is that it can handle far more current (power being pulled out of it) than any transformer-based power supply. Although we had to put power rating labels on each output to satisfy certification agencies (yes, we actually certified these, unlike most companies), the outputs can generally handle far more than the label shows.

Just like with the original 1 SPOT, and your laptop power supply and phone charger, the 1 SPOT Pro uses switching power supply technology which allows you to use it anywhere in the world. The CS12 has an input voltage switch on the back, which switches voltage only for the 9VAC output, since that output does use a toroidal transformer. The rest of the outputs on the CS12, and all of them on the CS6 and CS7, don’t care what the input voltage is.

I rarely write product reviews but this power brick from True tone REALLY deserves a shout out. Over the years I’ve bought various power supplies for my pedals but have yet to get a silent fx chain & just thought I’d have to live with it. In particular, some fuzzes or distortions can have extra noise when ramped up or even put in front of a particular amp – the Hudson Broadcast for example could never be fully used because of the electronic noises coming off it as soon as I switched on. But now..all is sweet, no more rearranging the order, no more ‘only for this amp, those for that amp, not that pedal & that one together ‘. Of course I still get the gain hiss or slight hum but that can be adjusted. I wouldn’t have believed it until I heard it for myself.
I’m going to be trying out old pedals I’d given up on & new signal chains for some time now.
    Brilliant produc

My rig is so quiet now. All of those years of putting up with that hiss. I finally understand what silence is. 7+ pedals and single coil pickups and no hiss/hum even with high gain overdrive and no noise gate. It must truly have isolated output jacks. Consider me converted.

A great find. Bolts on to the under surface of Pedaltrain pedalboards (there are some compatibility specs on this, though not clear on use with other pedal board brands) so does not take up space needed for pedals. Plenty of outputs with voltages including 9/12/18V and scope for expanding the number with the cables all provided in the box. Install and forget about it! Pedal board is then ready as a plug & play unit pretty much. This was certainly worth the money, though of course the original small version from a single plug is a lot cheaper.

Bought for my pedalboard which needs a variety of ma and voltages.

Absolute silent in use and by using the correct power ma for each pedal has made my rig a lot quieter.

The IEC input makes life easier for unplugging and using abroad if needed.

This is the second one i have bought as my pedalboard grew. Slots in underneath fixed with metal brackets which are supplied. You have to drill four holes which you then screw the brackets into. This is an easy job. Needs to be a pedaltrain pedalboard i think so look up which board is compatible to the CS7. Gets rid of the need for all those cables, daisychains and multiple plugs for separate pedals. Also gets rid of any noise and buzzing. Excellent.

Excellent. Would be nice if it had one more port but no complaints whatsoever. Clean power.

I had a cheap Chinese power brick on my board before, and the isolation was poor. I was getting all kinds of noise through my amp. This has changed it, almost perfect isolation. Fits perfectly or my Pedal train Classic 2. The kettle lead is nice and long, however the power brick is a bit of a unit, making my pedal board super heavy. Only fault though.

I have to admit this was a reluctant purchase it’s a lot of money for what it does, at least that’s what I was thinking at the time. I’m a serious pedal junkie I run 16 into my home recording rig, with a mixture of analogue and digital pedals. I’ve been using a mix of wall warts and cheap PSU’s. However I was getting issues with some TC electronic and Digitech pedals being noisy or tripping the PSU on starting. I was sceptical this unit would fare any better than my previous attempts trying to reduce the number of power cables on the cheap. I was wrong I’ve used the CS12 to power all my digital effects an 18V booster and wah and run the distortion/fuzz/overdrive off the Donner PSU the difference is simply astonishing and unexpected. I can only assume a number of the pedals were not getting sufficient current and/or didn’t like sharing a common ground connection. The effects are just that little bit more vibrant and 100% noiseless. I didn’t think I had a noise issue until now the improvement in clarity is unbelievable. I have also tried some pedals that had been retired because I thought components had failed but on the isolated supply are fine. So rather than this being a dull purchase it’s brought life to my rig and resurrected some old friends. If your having issues with digital or fussy pedals this PSU is likely to be your solution, check on their website for a list of compatible pedals if your lucky enough to own some of those really expensive boutique pedals, I believe a few are not supported. I’m a convert it’s worth every penny.

    Pros:
    – Isolated outputs to reduce noise
    – colour coordinated power leads to help make wiring a bit pedalboard a bit easier and can also help with troubleshooting issues a bit quicker down the line
    – 4 different sized power leads to help keep your pedalboard looking as neat as possible
    – comes with a bracket to install the brick to your pedalboard
    – good value for money (purchased for 154)

    Cons:
    – A USB port would have been nice so you could charge your phone/run LED lights etc

I hope you find this review helpful

I have checked every single power source in many stores before going for the CS12what I great choice I did at the end. It’s all you need and more, would have been great to have an adaptor from AC to DC, but hey: if you have an old Whammy this could be useful.

In any case, simply go for it. Don’t spend another 150 quid on a Voodoo Labs 3, TrueTone should be the absolute standard. Plus: they include the mount, so you don’t need to spend extra money to attach it to your pedalboard (PedalTrain or not, I just screwed it to my wooden Ruach).

Dead quiet, versatile, good value for the money. You won’t regret!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have been using a power supply for my pedals for some years now, I was using another brand’s flagship model, but recently I bought a Two Notes Le Bass Preamp, when added to my previous power supply chain I used to suffer with hiss and hum when a venue had ‘dirty’ power.

The Truetone has been on my board for 6 weeks now, I’ve played over 25 shows now and it hasn’t given me any issues at all.

Fitting it to my Pedaltrain was very easy, it came with lots of power cables, not only in different voltages, but in different lengths too, which is great for those of us who like a neat board.

I can’t find a single fault with it at all, I haven’t used every output or voltages, but from what I’ve experienced so far I can’t see me ever needing anything else.
