I bought this dash cam as a present for My wife and I have to say so far so good. Crisp clear images especially on computer. I inserted 256mg u3 reader card which can handle almost anything. I’m still evaluating but it works perfectly.

Saw that this was highly rated on Wirecutter so purchased. Easy to set-up and install and great quality during the day & at night. So far I love it!

The camera itself is great with high fidelity during the daytime and great low light capability.
One thing that has annoyed me though is it has a tendency to randomly shutoff, and then I have to power it on again and it lasts 5 mins before doing the same thing, about one in 4 trips. I’m not stupid and it is setup correctly so I can only blame this on a poor charger or my cars 12v port itself. I am planning on hardwiring to the car so hopefully this resolves the issue or I will be returning the camera for a replacement. Otherwise I am happy with my purchase and the camera looks well made and expensive from outside and inside the vehicle whilst also remaining discreet.

I just bought TWO of these (one each for front and rear) and first impressions are, I like the dash cam. It’s light, not too expensive and discreet. Has a capacitor instead of a battery (which is MUCH better than a battery). The recordings do not overlap (unlike Nextbase), which lets you use a video editing program to join the clips together

At the moment, the ONLY CON is that the GPS unit does NOT get bundled with the dash cam.

I’ve been a long time user of Nextbase, but since buying 2 NB622GW at a cost of 500 and within 4 months, they started locking up seconds after they turned on. I took them back to get a full refund, went on Amazon the second I got home and after a bit of research, I ettled on this dash cam.

FAR cheaper for the same, if not BETTER quality.

    Calidad a precio moderado

I already had the Vantrue N1 dashcam so when this one became available, I decided give it a go. It comes with everything you need to get it up and running except for the SD card which will need to be purchased separately. The best place to get one is elsewhere on Amazon. Vanture recommends the Samsung Endurance Pro SD card. I went for the Vantrue branded SD card and I haven’t had any problems with it. Vantrue claims that this camera will support SD cards up to 256GB and I can confirm that this is indeed the case. Like the N1, the menus are just as easy to navigate which makes setting up the camera an absolute doddle. The layout of the buttons differs slightly to the N1 but that isn’t an issue. This dashcam records in 4K at 30fps, does seamless loop recording (handy for putting clips together when editing), has a supercapacitor, 3″ LCD screen, Sony IMX317 sensor, parking mode (the camera needs to be hardwired for this feature), time lapse and it will support GPS with a GPS mount that needs to be purchased separately.
The one thing this dashcam has over the N1 is the video quality in the day time. Number plates are clear even when it is a cloudy day. The night time seems to be on a par with the N1 but it still approximates what the human eye sees.
The only issue I had was with the audio. It seems to be sensitive to every little lump and bump in the road. I know that audio quality in a dashcam is not really a high priority but I thought I’d mention it anyway in the interests of honesty. It didn’t put me off or detract from this otherwise excellent dashcam. I updated the firmware to the latest version but the issue was still there. Hopefully, Vantrue might address it in a future firmware update.

Would I recommend it? Most definitely. The price may be a bit hard to swallow but an equivalent model from other brands such as Nextbase will cost you more so it is really good value for money for a 4K dashcam.

    Another great product from Vantrue

After having someone crash into our car, and having been told by the other driver he is a professional, the view from the dash cam would prove otherwise. Even got the number plates of the other cars that didn’t have time to swerve.
I’d buy again, but…. the damned thing keeps falling off the rear glass of a Renault Kadja. They need to supply a sticker for a slightly concave window. The front is fine, but check your glass. The cam will fall off, going slowly over bumps.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is the second dashcam from Vantrue that I have used (the first was bought as a present for my mum after seeing all of the great reviews that Vantrue receive).

The camera is a little larger than my current dashcam, but is by no means big (which I prefer, as I like cameras to be as discrete and as unnoticeable from the outside of the car as possible.

Unlike some of the other models by this brand, the X4 has a regular camera shaped body, which feels well made and although it is not heavy, it does a bit of weight to it.

The screen on the rear of the unit is quite large at around 3″, making it easy to see and navigate menus, which are controlled using the 4 simple navigation buttons on the right side of the screen.

The microphone and reset button are located on the bottom edge of the camera, whilst a power button, Mini USB port and the powered mount connection are found on the top edge.

A MicroSD card slot and Mini HDMI port can be found at either end of the device.

The front of the dashcam houses the 160 degree lens and a speaker for listening to recorded audio on the device.

    The dimensions are approximately:
    9.8cm x 5cm x 4cm (at it’s widest parts and excluding the mount).

The X4 has all of the usual features that are found on a dashcam, including automatic switch on and record with the ignition, G-Sensor to automatically lock video clips in the event of a collision and motion detection for when you are parked.

Sadly, the X4 doesn’t come with any notable features that make it stand out from the competition, other than a Sony IMX317 sensor and an Ambarella A12 chip set, which allow the camera to record 4K video.

Most dashcams have a small built in battery, but the X4 uses a Super Capacitor in place of the battery. The capacitor is safer than a battery, as temperatures in your windscreen can get quite high in the summer, which is not good for batteries.

The mount is the standard suction type and has a MiniUSB port built in, so you can power the camera from the mount.

    ***** In The Box *****

    1 x X4 Dashcam
    1 x Suction Mount
    1 x 12v Lighter socket and Cable
    1 x USB Cable
    1 x User Guide

    ***** Installation / Use *****

Using the X4 is simple and the menu’s are a pleasure to use and are laid out a little nicer than most cameras I have used.

I first connected the dashcam to the mains using the supplied USB cable (and a USB mains adapter), so that I could change the settings from the comfort of my sofa.

I fitted a 32GB Class 10 Samsung MicroSD card into the card slot and powered up the dashcam — the whole process takes 5 seconds at most and the camera is ready to start recording.

The camera has many different settings that you can change, including the recording resolution. There are 5 resolutions available:
    4K 2840*2160P @30fps
    2560*1440P @60fps
    2560*1441P @30fps
    1920*1080P @60fps
    1920*1080P @30fps

although you would really want to use the highest settings anyway.

Other options include adding your number plate and setting the recording loop duration – the recording loop feature is great, as it records video in either 1, 3 or 5 minute clips. This saves you having to scroll through 1 huge video file to find something you are looking for, as you can select the clip that matches the time of the incident you want to watch. Once the memory card is full, it will begin to overwrite the recorded files, starting with the oldest files first.

I have tested the camera at it’s highest resolution of 2840*2160P, and the image quality is pretty good. It is mostly possible to read number plates and road signs and the camera copes pretty well with changing light conditions. Night time video is also pretty good (not quite as good as day time, but that is to be expected).
2560*1440P @60 fps would have been my preferred resolution as it should provide enough detail to display number plates and the higher frame rate provides smoother video playback. Unfortunately, I found that although the video was very smooth, the output was surprisingly soft and didn’t provide enough detail. The same happened when recording at 1080P @60fps.
I have written to Vantrue support, which have been very fast at replying and after downloading the firmware from the website, it did improve video quality a little, but not as much as I would have hoped.

    ***** Conclusion *****
This X4 is a nice dashcam, which records good quality video. The image is generally nice and crisp, with good details when using the highest resolution and has a fairly vibrant colour.

I like the regular camera shaped design of the X4 and it’s fairly small size helps to keep it less visible from outside the car.

I like that the suction mount has a power connector, as you can easily remove the camera from the mount without having to unplug cables. Although I do feel that for the price, the GPS mount (available separately), really should have been included in the package.

For 159 at the time of writing, I think the X4 is just a little expensive compared to some other dashcams available which offer the same, if not better video quality for the same price or less and include GPS and WiFi and if you then add the GPS mount it would take you to around 180. Having said that, the build quality is very high, it uses the safer Super Capacitor and it comes with an 18 month warranty (longer than most brands).

All in all, I’m pretty happy with the dashcam and would happily award 5 stars if it wasn’t for the fact that the video doesn’t quite meet my expectations for 4K, hence awarding 4 stars.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersRather than take my ageing hardwired dash-cam out of my old car, it was easier to pick up a new one for my new car. I specifically wanted one with higher than 1080p resolution, and with motion activated parking mode as this had saved me an insurance claim in the past when a driver hit my car in a car park and left the scene. Vantrue came up in a couple of different places online so thought I would give this 4K version a go. There aren’t many 4K cameras on the market at the moment and the others from well known brands are either expensive, or don’t have the parking mode.
The camera itself to look at is nothing special. It’s fairly large compared to some others and doesn’t feel particularly robust but that doesn’t really matter once installed. The screen is nice and large, and the buttons are laid out logically which makes setup easier.
Installation is fairly standard and once positioned via suction cup mount which also has a power socket to keep the cables tidy it’s just a case of putting the memory card in and powering the camera to set up date/time, and other settings.
Quality of the footage is excellent. You can run this camera at 4K 30fps, but for driving you might find a better option is to use the 60fps option at a slightly lower resolution. The camera boots up quickly when ignition turns on which is good.
Worth mentioning that this camera does not have WiFi or GPS built in, which given it’s one of the more expensive cameras is a shame, and would round this camera off nicely but its not a deal breaker. It also uses the older slightly larger mini USB rather than Micro USB.
Overall, an excellent camera. Superb image quality, a parking mode that when hardwired means the camera is always running but will only save footage where motion is detected, and a large screen with easily laid out buttons make this camera a great buy and I’ll be taking my car down to the local auto electrician soon to have it hardwired to the car using the associated hardwire kit which I also bought.

Much higher resolution video than most others!
