This is really easy to use and does a great job of freshening up our carpets.
We use the hoover on the carpet first and then use the cleaner. The cleaner got rid of raspberry stains on the carpet without any issues at all.
The drying function is good too.
The cleaner itself is easy to take apart and clean, which we have done after every use, as hoovering doesn’t always pick up everything.
Highly recommend and wish we had gone one sooner.
I am absolutely delighted with this machine. It is easy to assemble and use. The carpets were left almost dry which I thought was amazing but I was shocked at the colour of the dirty water. Carpets now smelling fresh and looking like new.

I bought this based on other reviews being so positive.
Having owned two previous Vax carpet cleaners, I knew it would be a good machine. I certainly wasn’t disappointed!
Most people who have used one of these machines will know that it cleans at least as well as a professional machine which can be hired – but it’s actually better. Much better, in my view.
Everybody says how well it cleans, but cleaning the machine itself, (after quite a few shampooing sessions), is far easier than previous models. The brushes come out for cleaning and go back in so easily. Everything from filling with water to dismantling looks like it was done with input from people who are going to use the machines… unlike some products!

It's the only one to buy
Vax customer care is very good. I bought through Amazon the Vax pets and family carpet cleaner for 147 pound, no longer available. But didn’t I have trouble with it! I used it twice. The belt kept breaking, the machine was overheating and each time 8 screws to undo, you can’t buy the belt anywhere other than from Vax. It left black burnt rubber deep in my carpet. I could have returned the machine to Amazon but Vax wanted it sent to them, it was just 6 months old. I returned it to Vax with photos and set up a claim. They replaced it with the Platinum Smartwash retail 299 at no cost to me and even sent me extra cleaning fluid. Now this is a very different machine. It is very user friendly, easy to set up and easy to use and gives awesome results. It is important to vacuum thoroughly before you use it. Set it up properly and fill the separate bottle with the dedicated cleaning fluid and work slowly. Bad staining needs several passes on wash. Then rinse by taking away the solution bottle. Keep pulling water on dry only until you’ve got most ot it up. I did find some leakage on the cleaning bottle when using the hose. To remedy this reset the grommet in the base of the bottle by just pushing it in briefly. The other design fault is the snap on spinscrub tool. It’s a b****r to remove. Easy on but hard to get off and change the tool head. It’s just a blob of fixed plastic that recesses into a hole and if not careful you could snap off the tab and destroy the tool sheath which is inflexible perspex. Best not change it unless you have to. Also this machine is not ideal for staircases as the hose is not long enough. You’ll need to work both ends of the stairs and have a second person to steady the machine so it doesn’t fall off the stairs! Clean the machine when your done, it’s quick and straightforward. Make sure the hose is clean and dry before you store it so you don’t get dried in debris blocking the nozzle.
Other people have mentioned changing drive belts on this machine. Dont let them confuse you. The drive mechanism is not consumer repairable on this model. Its a lifetime turbo assembly that is not accessible to the consumer, similar to a Dyson There is a 6 year warranty and if you have an issue with the motor the machine goes back to vax by a courier. So keep your box!! This is a good machine, probably Vax’s best ever and worth buying and I’m pleased with the results I’m getting. I had a horrible mess from a large overwatered plant pot, soil and peat stained water over 50cm and the stain has now gone from my carpet. Plants on my carpets are now banned ! Grease stains, oil based dried on paint, oil..and burnt on rubber are best treated carefully with isopropyl.. rubbing alcohol, a solvent before you wash the carpet! Hope this helps.

This carpet cleaner is just what I needed. It is easy to use once you get the hang of it. I had contacted Amazon as it wasn’t working properly and they had put me in touch with Vax. The problem was me. I hadn’t fitted the parts back correctly. Now I know to take care when reassembling after cleaning the brushes. Dog hairs! Well done customer services and Vax.

What a fabulous machine, made the carpets look like new. Carpets were fully dry within a hour. May need to do a double run on a difficult stain. Machine makes a noise when dirty water tub needs to be emptied. Comes apart very easily for full cleaning
One cautionary note. As the machine is made of plastic, caution needs to be shown with assembly or dismantling.

So easy to use, not very heavy compared to other ones on the market, easy to clean and does an amazing job of cleaning my carpets.
Suction is very good with the 1200watt motor although I wish it was a bit more stronger as I find myself at times testing to push down gently to the top of it to really get extra suction as I pulled back to collect dirty water but seriously minor niggle and so glad I got this over anything else. Just a heads up there’s quite a few used for sale very cheap and worth getting one of those like I did on Amazon Warehouse. Nothing wrong with mine it came without the bag to put accessories in and no detergent so I’m guessing the previous person dodgily bought it new and used it to clean their entire house then returned it in under 30 day rule so got a house clean for free and full refund. Sneaky eh. Buy one used for nearly 100 off price and you will always have a decent carpet cleaner which judging by the dirt in my carpets I’m going to be cleaning more often with it now.

I managed to get this vac for 200 it’s differently worth that price it practically leaves my carpets dry it’s a great all round Vax I have used the cheaper standard Vax before and this is above and beyond that by far.

As a basic machine that is easy to move around & carry it is a nice machine. Compared to professional machines it hasn’t got quite the cleaning power but for regular cleaning and smalls spills it is fine. Would recommend.

Vax smartwash platinum: I’m literally a carpet cleaner.
Note: The suction power isn’t amazing but that actually ends up being a bonus in my household. My “pet” Hoover won’t get up pet hair at all so I’ve been using this after a quick Hoover, it doesn’t suck all the pet hair in and instead clumps it all together in a nice easy to pick up pile. Much more effective than the Hoover.

Well designed carpet cleane
After returning a Vax carpet cleaner that was useless and broke after one use, I was apprehensive about buying another one. I had owned a previous good Vax carpet cleaner but gave it away because although it cleaned well, the tanks were too small, the machine was hard to clean and it was very noisy and heavy.
Now this one I have to say is the best carpet cleaner I have ever used! Someone has obviously experienced all the difficulties that you generally get with other carpet cleaners and redesigned them to be easily used. The tanks slot into place easily. They have hardly any crooks and crannies to deal with when cleaning and they are a decent size, so you aren’t constantly having to fill up the water or empty the dirty water tank. The washing solution goes into a separate bottle that slots into the back and the solution is measured out automatically whilst you clean. My old machine had an integrated washing solution in the clean water tank and it was constantly using up the solution too quickly so I decided to measure it out myself and put it into the clean water tank. This model takes away all of that hassle.
Be aware that if you don’t slot the clean water tank in properly, you will find that the water won’t come out so it’s not a fault with the cleaner. I did this and realised I hadn’t slotted it in properly.
The ease of use is brilliant. You don’t have to squeeze and release the handle like other carpet cleaners as the movement of going forwards and backwards does it for you. There is a lit up indicator so you can see when it’s washing or when it’s drying. There is also a button you can press so that you are just drying which allows you to be able to suck up all the excess water allowing for quicker drying. The actual rotating brushes are wider in their design which allows for quicker cleaning coverage.
There are two attachments that give you the option of have a circular spinning brush for tough stains or a mini hand held small area clean. The smaller non spinning attachment comes with a silicone brush head or nylon bristle head which click on or off depending on what you are cleaning.
The only negative thing I can say about this machine is the spinning head attachment clicks on over this little plastic bump and I found it hard to take it off so had to prise it off with a flat head screwdriver whilst trying to pull at the same time. Maybe with time, it will loosen up. I just hope the plastic doesn’t snap.
The carpet cleaner is quieter than any others I have used but I did find myself eventually putting on headphones as the noise started to effect my hearing.
My photos show how good the machine cleans. My rug had been stored for years up in my loft but I decided it was time to bring it back to life and I’m amazed at how well it has turned out!
If you are looking for a good carpet cleaner, I would highly recommend this one.

Good value for money
Although this machine was very efficient, the TV advertisement was not very clear regarding the free washer. It did not make clear that you had to order direct to receive the washer. We spoke to a person at your company who was not very helpful. I see that you have now changed the advert to read “free washer when ordered direct”. How convenient for your company but not for your customers. No more VAX products in my home.

An excellent machine!
My 15 yr old cream coloured carpet, was marked and grey looking near the settee, but now after using the Vax carpet shampooer, it looks clean and is almost as good as new. Using the ‘dry only’ option after shampooing, the carpet was left barely damp.

Great carpet cleane
Easy to setup, I like the fact you don’t have to mix the cleaning solution. It does it all itself. The smart Wash and dry action is really great too. The attachments are really great too especially the rotating brush. Its much lighter than the previous model we had and easier to clean too.

I was a little worried this machine wouldn’t work as well as advertised. I shouldn’t have as its an absolute dream to use. I followed the instructions to the letter and emptied and cleaned it with no problems and I am not the most technical person at all. With practice I will be able to do it quite easily. The carpet in my lounge came up really well and even the pressure marks from furniture fluffed up a bit too making them less conspicuous. I would recommend it even though some people on their reviews said things didn’t work. I haven’t as yet used the hose parts on it but will in a week or so doing the edges which I couldn’t get to. The suction power on this machine is very good and I used the dry only feature and the carpet was dry within the hour as it said it would be. Highly recommended from my point of view and I now have no excuse for a stained carpet.
Improved to the point of near perfec
This machine is outstanding. I’ve owned Vax carpet cleaners throughout the years and they have always been good and they have improved each generation. This design appears to have thought of everything. Not only does it do a great job, but it also disassembles entirely and very easily for cleaning, including the brushes, so it’s no problem to keep it in perfect shape. It has a dry-only function and the tools do not attempt to all fit store on the machine itself, instead, they come in a vented bag that hangs from the handle, perfect for lifting and storing. The only gripe I have, and it’s just a very minor design thing, is the lead comes out of the base of the machine onto the floor, which means you probably have it in your hand at the handle to keep it out the way when in use, a clip on the handle to temporarily hold the cord during use would be nice – I told you it was minor, other than that, perfect.

Purchased this carpet washer to replace a poorly designed faulty Vax ECR2V1P Dual Power Pet Advance Carpet Cleaner. I have used the Platinum a few times since receipt. Upholstery cleaning and Carpet washing, both excellent. The self mixing of detergent removes any doubts about getting it right. This is a well designed unit and very user friendly. It is easy to clean.
I bought this as a Christmas present for myself as I have done a major house renovation after saving for a long time. I did not want the new carpets to meet the same fate as the old ones, so I was looking to prolong their life for as long as possible this time. I have had my eye on this machine for a long time since seeing an advert on tv. I have tried all functions on the only remaining old carpet ( 15 years/never wash-cleaned) to test the machine to its full potential. I can confirm the following:
Brilliant suction.
It lifts up most of water from carpets on dry function and gets the rest on the “only dry” function.
Lifts all rubbed in dirt and stains. The black coffee stain on the “before” photo was there for 10 years. Completely gone with literally no effort.
So easy to use.
Assembly requires 2 min max. Just make sure to read the instructions thoroughly. Don’t skip it.
My tips:
Hoover your carpets thoroughly before using the machine. If you think your carpets are so well hoovered that they even don’t need washing, this is a good indication that your carpets are now ready to be washed.
1) Do not pull/push the machine too fast as you would do with the vacuum cleaner. The brushes need time to spin. I usually just slightly guide/push/pull it letting it roll pretty much itself.
2) For the best result, go over one place as many times as you need.
3) Clean carpet in sections. Go over with “Dry only” at the end of cleaning a section.
4) Clean thoroughly every part of your machine after every session. Don’t leave it dirty. The fibres will mix with debris, get dry and clog your machine, ruining it. You cannot even imagine how much dirt it will pull up, even on what you consider relatively clean carpets. I used it on my new carpets too in the second month of installing them. That was not a pretty sight. I was surprised how much dirt there was, considering we do not wear shoes at home to preserve the new carpets.
5) Clean the plastic hood that covers the brushes several times during the cleaning session when it looks pretty clogged.
I absolutely love this machine and would recommend it to anyone.

We had an unfortunate leak but this Vax Carpet Cleaner, on dry only, removed an amazing amount of water and cleaned the carpet well after almost all the water was gone. All that was left was against the wall where the Vax could not reach.

Much easier than my old VAX
Bought to replace an original cylinder Vax. Intuitively easy to assemble, and very easy to use. Automatic shampoo dispense is much easier than mixing manually. Clear plastic tanks let you see water level (and how much dirt you lifted, without having to keep stopping and checking. One tank completed a bedroom and small hallway. (Old one I had refilled twice and couldn’t even complete the bedroom). Pleased with the purchase.

I am really impressed. Its really easy to set up, really easy and light to use, seems to clean well (just check the photos I added. And I consider myself a fairly clean person ) and has dried the carpet really well too. On top of that cleaning it after was a breeze. Would highly recommend.

If you think you need a carpet cleaner get this one.
One slight issue is the float in the tank can trigger and it stops sticking, don’t lift the cleaner off the floor and it shouldn’t happen. If it does you have to turn it off and back on.

I’m awaiting a replacement. Was unlucky enough to get a model that would only stay powered if I held the button down continuously.

So my new machine arrived and no complaints this time.
I have very expensive carpet (it’s not a long pile or anything but it’s very thick) and my old vax would wash but only pick up a fifth of the water so I had wet carpets for a week. I was dubious when I eyed up this model. I expected my carpet to retain water but no such fear was confounded. It is excellent. Cleaned my cream carpet brilliantly, the only thing to note is you will be constantly switching to the dry only mode to avoid over saturation. But that’s not an issue for myself.
Dry in an hour? I didn’t expect this to be my case. Heck after the old vax I would have been happy with dry in 3. I’m not exaggerating here but mine were dry in less than an hour. Granted I did spend longer on the dry mode than I did in wash but not a ridiculous amount of time. Thrilled.
The upholstery attachment – excellent. Seems a lot of people weren’t impressed with the tool but I am. My sofa was very dirty (I have a toddler) and it’s worked miracles. This may sound obvious but don’t use the attachment slowly. I proper scrubbed instead of doing it in neat lines. The pet attachment on it greatly helped (two cat household).
I have one small issue with the machine. I wish the hose was longer. It does not reach the top of my stairs (I notice the next model down from this one has a longer hose – gah!). I live in a new build so my stairs aren’t particularly steep. That’s my only negative but what a fantastic machine.
This carpet cleaner is good. But it’s a pain because it does not wash the edges of the carpets meaning I had to buy a separate spot cleaner too!
So it’s good for large square/ rectangular rooms, but a pain if you have a shaped room!

Retired our old outdated carpet shampooer and replaced with the Vax, wish we had done it earlier! What a difference even one shampoo clean has made, the carpets have come up so clean and soft underfoot!
Highly recommend having one.

Easy to put together and ready to use within 5 minutes. Scrubbing tool great for stairs. My carpets were dry within 3 hours. Best cleaner I have ever owned , worth paying extra.

I have a back problem and found that I could manage a room at a time….pushing forward to clean and back to dry and then you can push dry only button to dry it more. I couldn’t lift it but you don’t need to.
Easy to clean afterwards….all the parts come off and can be easily cleaned under the tap….and are easy to pit back too.

Great product, carpet came up brand new, a must for a house with children, cats, dogs and men! An the occasional spew from my drunk mother in law!
Ordered it late Friday, arrived Saturday afternoon and we don’t even have Prime. First use was this morning.
For those thinking of buying one, I would recommend it.
For those who haven’t used theirs yet, the following maybe of interest.
The machine is easy to manoeuvre, it’s light going forward due to the rollers pulling it along, it’s a bit heavier on the back stroke but still easy. It used far less solution than I expected. Keep an eye on the top water tank as it’ll be empty before you expect it to be and you’ll be “washing” your carpet dry. The giveaway is you’ll notice you’re no longer picking water up on the back stroke. When the waste water tank was about half full, the machine sound changed significantly and I thought there was a problem. It was simply that the float had activated and cut the suction off. Simply empty the tank and carry on. Once you’re happy with the clean, remove the small solution tank and continue cleaning but now with clean water alone. I spent more time on this “rinse” process than the actual cleaning process and was surprised how long it kept extracting dirty water. I reckon I spent 3 x longer on the rinse process than the cleaning process. Then switch to “dry” and keep going till very little water is being extracted. The machine took 2-3 mins to clean. Strangely, I found the process quite therapeutic, presumably seeing the dirt being extracted from what I thought was a clean carpet, was quite satisfying. I will add that I paid 240 last year to have this carpet cleaned professionally. There is only 2 of us in the house, we have no pets, we have a patio and fake grass. It’s unbelievable just where the dirt comes from. I’m absolutely delighted.

easy enough to put together this is my third vax machine over about 20 years and between friends family and work they have had some real hammer.
good for upholstery and the car not just carpets
we also have some rental properties so they also get used on tenant change over
of the vax machines we have had this is the best, easy to use good suction and hence quick drying times.
the first we bought was simply worn out and we could not replace the parts and the second one i bought was a reconditioned one and while ok i would not do that again
DO NOT over dose with cleaning fluid it does not make it any easier and over a long term is not particularly good for the carpet as you will leave behind residual cleaning fluid unless you rinse really well … which doubles your cleaning / work time

This carpet cleaner is brilliant. Last time I had a man come in to clean my carpet it cost me over 100.00. Now I can clean any small bit of carpet when ever I want & where ever I want.

Well I’m very impressed with this bit of kit, and it takes a lot to do that because, in my experience, nothing bloody works properly!
Whoever designed this is a genius, so easy to set up and use, great results, but for me the stand out feature is how easy it all is to disassemble, clean properly and fit back together. Simply brilliant. Let’s hope it doesn’t self destruct in 12 months.
Vax are not my preferred brand, I’m not really a fan but this cleaner is a pleasure to use and to look after.

Surprisingly good for a domestic machine although the handle snapped off on mine and I needed a replacement
The issue I have is that it goes through 3 tanks of clean water and the dirty water tanks was onky 1/3rd full.
That means its leaving a lot of water in your carpet!

Over them with this cleaner. To say we were pleased is the understatement of the year, wow, now the carpet looks almost new.
I kept the carpet up for the last few years with a upright bissel, and I thought that did a good job. This machine,totally outclasses that by a new dimension. Well done vax.
