Easy to empty the dust cylinder. A bit weighty at the top in end where the handle and the battery is.
The VAX is really handy when you wish to do a quick clean up in various rooms and the battery seems to last very well without the need to charge every time you use it.
On the downside the dust cylinder seems to fill very quickly and it also seems quite awkward to take off and replace, I guess I need to get used to it.
Very handy addition to a conventional plug in vacuum.
Absolutely love this Hoover. Great suction, easy to manoeuvre and glides well.
The highest setting is capable of pulling grout from between tiles ha ha! A great product. My only small gripe is the product doesn;t last long on the highest suction setting but still lasts 20 mins or so. I would recommend.
I took a little time to adapt to this after large corded machines but find it very easy to use. The dirt box does need emptying very regularly and cleaning and the filter cleaning too but not a problem. My husband uses it too and I am very pleased about that!
No dislikes + nice and light the wife can handle it so i got out of a job.
Purchased to replace corded Dyson which became too heavy to lug up & down stairs. This is much more convenient& works well on carpets, laminate floor & uneven quarry tiles. Being able to detach the long stem to turn into a handheld for the stairs is very handy. Easy to empty & to clean the roller brush with scissors as described (need to download as the suppleid is just a quick start guide). Stores neatly against the wall. We bought an extra battery but you don’t really need it. Very pleased.
I’ve owned upright corded and bagless vacuum cleaners before but they are always a chore to use, whether it’s getting the cord wrapped/unwrapped, pushing the heavy machine along with both hands as it gets tiring with just 1, emptying and cleaning it, or the constant fight and worry over moving the power cable out of the way so you don’t accidentally chew through it.
However this cordless is lightweight enough that one hand is capable of using it for the whole time and it is quite easy to empty and disassemble for storage, and I’m quite a lazy guy so I’ve actually got less excuses for not picking this up and flipping a switch to use than if I was to contemplate having to take 5-10 minutes to setup and lug the standard corded vacuum along to do the same job.
Although the suction power is great, the vacuum is quite heavy and top heavy due to the battery by the handle.
Manoeuvrability is good and head is small enough to get under and round furniture
Unfortunately it does not “stand up’ on it’s own so you need to lie it down when moving something and we have to “prop” it up in a cupboard as we have no where suitable to hang it on a wall
Really impressed with this product. Great suction with a boost function! Brilliant piece of kit much cheaper than a Dyson as well :))
Light weight and plenty of power, good value for money. I had a Dyson V11 which was pretty heavy and you have to hold your finger on the start all the time. This has a start and stop which I much prefe
The Vax Blade 4 vacuum cleaner is an excellent product with no real disadvantages except that it will not stand up on its own. This is a common fault with all similar types of cleaner. Vax are offering a free tool kit worth 50 when purchased direct from them. Amazon do not offer this. Vax also provide free next day delivery.
It is a bit top heavy/ it stiff to manoeuvre to start with but alot better after a few times of use.
Suction is great especially as its a cordless. Battery doesn’t take long to charge/ it does not stand up alone but that’s not a problem as its not my main vacuum cleaner. Has a bracket to store it which works for me. Bin on it is small but again that fine for me and the price is great.
Great for what I want it for, in between times for a tidy up on carpets and I use it on hard floors instead of sweeping.
akes a little getting used to as cylinder makes it top heavy being close to the handle.
Absolutely love my Vax one Power Blade. Its so lightweight, very powerful and fun to use.
Absolutely love this hover still a bit heavy to hold
It is light weight and very easy to manoeuvre around furniture. The suction is great, and you have the option to turn the roller brush off particularly when using it on my thick rug which is too thick with the roller function on. Only criticism is when emptying i have to use something long to get everything out as just shaking/ tapping the drum isn’t enough to get all the fluff and dust out. All in all love it and would totally recommend it.
This is one brilliant bit of kit. From a background in the cleaning industry I had my doubts, but what a brilliant machine. I would recommend to anyone, it’s probably slashed the time it takes to use a traditional vacuum by 80%
Get a spill, vac it, job done
Product was a handheld, cordless vacuum cleaner with excellent performance. Delivery was extremely fast.
Good suction easy manoeuvrability it is lightweight and it certainly meets my requirement I really like it It’s certainly better than a Gtech in my opinio
I had my concerns when buying this hoover but I am glad to say that is proving to be a really good replacement for my old dyson and in my opinion is a much better performer. It is a little heavier but manageable and the addition of an optional light is handy, battery life is really good.
The battery probably would do the whole house, but the dust container may need emptying halfway around. It is a much safer way to do the stairs than our corded vacuum cleaner.
It comes with a clamp to secure it against a wall for storage and I would recommend using it, or there is a danger of it toppling over if it just stood on the floor.
I love it but it’s not great on shaggy rugs. You can only use the selection for flat floor on those rugs & it doesn’t seem to pick up that well. Other than that it’s fab.
I like this Vacuum cleaner with it powerful suction especially with high power mode. The disadvantage is that battery will run out a lot quicker with high power mode. I have brought a second battery to allow quick swop .
I think it may turn out to be easily broken. it is clumsy to disassemble and the catch on the dust bin is not strong enough and needs very careful use.
Very powerful suction when you use the boost button. However, this significantly reduces the battery and time left to vacuum. As I live in a modest flat, I find the battery time (with boost) plenty to do a general vacuum. Fantastic hoover for my needs!
Very easy to use.Light ,with plenty of maneuverability. It picks up very well. We are delighted with our purchase.
So I was a little undecided with this vacuum, I hates my Dyson and I have a Vax carpet cleaner I love, I wanted a cordless one for quick daily whip arounds. It’s much better than the Dyson, it’s weird to use at the start with the difference buttons but the charging is much easier than the Dyson, I wasn’t sure how well the suction was as it doesn’t sound like my Dyson use to, it’s a tad noisy but I do a quick once over of my 3 bed and it fills the canister, picks up my hair and my dogs hair easily! It’s a cheap little vacuum and it does the job. Only down side is it is heavier than the Dyson but over all I am so much happier with this than the Dyson just took a little while to get use to!
Amazing suction from such a lightweight vacuum. Easy to manoeuvre. Find the lid of the collection box quite stiff to open.
Carpets have never been so clean.
Really happy with this cordless cleaner – even my son has taken to using it in his bedroom!
Very good suction and brushing action. Good battery life so much better than a Dyson!.
Also good that the battery is separate and replaceable. Easier to empty out and more robust and better made/engineered than a Dyson.
It is a bit heavy but not too much.
Light weight for me to use, even the husband likes it too
Bought this after getting a kitten and needing to Hoover all the time. It isn’t great at picking up those tiny cat litter stones or very good on wooden floors or corners, but is absolutely superb on carpet, stairs, and furniture. When you hit the spin button or up the suction the battery runs flat within minutes. It has enough juice for me to do the kitchen, diner, lounge and hall, but if I do the sofas or the dining chairs it’s out of battery before I get to the hall. I haven’t parted with my plug in Miele yet, but I do really like the convenience of this, how easily it manoeuvres and the unbelievable dust it sucks out of the carpet and sofas. If you have all wooden floors though, don’t bother with this.
A great hand held cordless vacuum. I like the light, so you can see what you are picking up, The battery does make it quite heavy to hold, but great suction and easy to use. Fair price.
I bought this, having scene a review on a different vacuum which recommended it.
I am delighted.
Its really easy to set up. Didnt even really need the instructions. Some of the parts are a tight fit, but with a little wiggle its not problem.
Its light, not so light as you might accidentally yeet it through a window, but light enough that it won’t trouble you to use it daily.
The accessories are as you would expect. No surprises.
Suction is great, standard power and motorised brush head each offer something. I normally have it on basic suction with motorised brush head and it picks up tons.
Battery. I have a 2 bedroom flat. I have successfully hoovered all of it, with settings described above, 4 times without having to charge.
New batteries are 80 so in theory this product should easily last you years at a fraction of the cost of higher end models, and really I don’t see them out performing it.
You won’t regret buying it.
My previous VAC was cheaper . Lasted over 5 years and does almost the same job. Cannot find much difference between the old one and the new except the price and a battery. The spare battery is very expensive but is useful.
Lightweight good level of suction and very easy to use, a great purchase and I’m very happy
It replaced a worn out g Tec was amazed how much it picked up on the first time am very pleased a good guy
works well when paired with two batteries. one battery is not enough in any mode. when used with brush mode last about 5 min , and why bother to put led’s light on end bit ???? like someone use hoover in the dark…. spinning brush maybe should be used just on vinyl or laminate floor then battery can last 2 min longer. for quick hooverin twice a day in small areas will do… will not handle 2 bed house in one go… i think for what it is blade 4 bit too pricey. If set come with 2 batteries and go for 230 i would said yes for sure … it’s not replacement for normal powerful hoover. this will save your time between general hoovering and for sure you don’t have to do general hoovering as often.
must have ? nope.
makes life easier? yes
1/3 noise to compare with almost any hoover, so can do quick brush even 5am
durable ? time will tell , but comes with 3 years warranty so all good !
Really satisfied with this vacuum. Powerful even if it is cordless. Of course the battery goes off fast if you used in high power but saying that I didn’t need to use on high power all the time. Easy to clean, easy to use, easy to storage. Highly recommended.
Vax., rechargeable. very good, easy to use., emptying dust/debris a bit fiddly, the long arm section is a bit ‘stiff’ to remove from the short section, but manageable. overall very satisfied, good pick up. use it every day. great for kitchen crumbs and suchlike,.would recommend, a good purchase.
Bought this after getting fed up of dragging cable around and can say it works as well as any regular hoover. Easy to charge up and will do my house a couple of times on a full charge. Easy to empty and light. I am glad I Bought it.
I am so sorry I didn’t buy THIS first !! hahaha At least I finally got the right vacumn cleaner for my home. I had no idea how much better it is to have a wireless vacumn! At my age I don’t need to worry about tripping over a cord! This is SO lightweight, and it does such a really great job. I even put the wall mount up easily by myself. SO convenient. Buy this before wasting money on any of the others. Start HERE!! Great buy!
First thing’s that I noticed is how quiet this runs, and that it has good suction. Easy to maneuver and stow. Quick charge battery as well..
The best vacuum cleaner I’ve ever had. Good on hard floor and soft. Very powerful, you can see how deep it cleans carpets. Don’t use brush bar on hard floor, no need as it’s powerful enough. Highly recommended but shop around as prices do vary depending on the dealer.
This Vax Blade 4 vacuum cleaner is an excellent product, lightweight, efficient, convenient for moving from room to room, and the wall mount storage is a bonus.
I find this hover great it’s got the option to select maximum suction power which is very powerful it is also great to use regarding it’s lightweight and also its maneuverability with the brush head desig
I like how it works and its flexability, it manouvers well. one problemi have had is converting to hand held. easy to empty
was bought because old classic vacuum cleaner was too heavy
this fits the bill of being much lighter – pleasantly surprised and pleased with its manoeuvrability and ease to get in awkward places and under things
rsr yo pt into use first time
Very good value and light to use should of got one ages ago
Lightweight, manoeuvrable and versatile, especially if you purchase the accessories kit.
Easy to empty.
An absolute great product. The suction especially on the highest level with the brush is very impressive. Well worth the money and is quite sturdy.
This vax is brilliant light weight great suction great for price
I would recommend the Vax blade, although a little heavy it is well balanced and very manoeuvrable ,great suction and value for money.
I have wanted a handheld vacuum for ages and was so happy we opted for this one, easy to assemble. Great power, the lowest setting doesn’t feel like you’re getting a thorough clean but the battery life is great and quite lightweight etc
What disappointed me was the weight, the size of the collection box and the lack of full instructions for assembly and accessing the filter for cleaning. All very well having to download copious pages from the internet but a proper instruction book as well as the short quick set up leaflet would be an asset. Customer Services have said they will post one to me but it has not come yet. The size of the collection box has to be limited to fit the cleaner but it needs frequent emptying if pet hairs are a problem, especially during moults.
It is much heavier than I expected because of the weight of the handle/control unit and battery. I am right-handed and have arthritis in my right shoulder and spine, which it aggravated, but I find if I support it with my left hand on the stick it alleviates the backache and helps the shoulder. I certainly wouldn’t be able to lift it to clean curtains or high corners of a room.
Overall, despite these drawbacks, it is an excellent tool and I am glad bought it. I just do one room at a time with a breather in between. There’s always a way round. So despite my criticisms I highly recommend it especially for people without joint problems.
Excellent product with great features and easy to install. I recommend it highly.
We can clean our carpeted lodge but needs emptying at roughly half way.
Bought for my mum. I have a Dyson which, whilst better balanced and easier to empty, is pretty similar but twice the price of this. The suction is great, it is easy to use and has helpful settings for different surfaces. Really good buy and would get this rather than the Dyso
Very easy to use and good battery power even when in turbo mode, gets right up to the skirting boards, would definitely recommend. Cons 40 + for attachments, not really required as it comes with the basic tools.
Brilliant product. So quick now to do the cleaning.Buying another for my daughter.
Pros:
PRICE: almost a third of the price of the top model Dyson
SUCTION: comparable with my parents cordless dyson
REMOVABLE BATTERY: Great option to have
PET TOOL: I would definitely advise buying the version with the small motorised pet brush head, its great for cleaning the stairs and car and getting into the small areas.
Cons:
Its a little heavy, but I believe its the same weight as the V11 Dyson. I think for the average person you’ll be fine, but if you have movement issues maybe this vacuum is not for you.
For me this is the best bang for buck cordless out there, yes the Dyson has extra features, digital display etc, but if your looking for performance and value for money this is your cordless.
Wish it could be charged without removing battery, other than that it is superb
Very good all rounder! Powerful suction and very manouverable. Highly recommended.
After debating over which vacuum to get I finally made the decision on purchasing this one and I definitely don’t regret it! I have seen a lot of mixed reviews but cannot find a fault myself. We have 2 dogs and this picks up their fur, even out the rug, with ease. The added boost and spinning rollers really help to pick the stubborn hairs up but isn’t needed to be on for the whole house. Great buy and worth spending the money on.
Suction is good but amazing in boost but this mode swallows your battery powe
We have been waiting for the right cordless, and we could not afford a Dyson, so that was out the question.
It’s great, offers it outstanding pickup offering more dust than our other hoover.
It comes with a motor head which when active by press of the button and has a great light, to show you all the dust.
I’m impressed with the boost mode demonstrated an outstanding dust and crumb pick-up on all floors.
It manoeuvres well on all floor surfaces, got a very nice moving head.
It lasts 10 minutes on max power and about 40-45 mins on low power. Battery takes around 3 hours to fully charge. I would suggest a second battery, so one can charge while using the other.
That said, this vacuum is a great price and a top performer model with an impressive pick-up.
As soon as you are speaking to a human being, they are delightful. However, they always insist on Serial Numbers and there are two! One on the machine and one on the battery. Both are 21 digits long and in size 4 font. Then of course they want bell book and invoice. Its a nightmare and it has taken two batteries and one charger and 20 minutes on the phone to sort out.
As I say, the boys and girls are lovely, but their systems are cumbersome.
I have tried vaxs before. The corded types and a cordless. I was disappointed with its performance but this blade 4 is fantastic the suction is very good the first time we had to empty the bin about 3 times.
Battery life — Charges 0 to full charge in around 1 hour/ runtime normal use around 40 minutes, normal with brush enabled around 35 minutes, plus+ power around 5 to 10 minutes. I find battery life very reasonable, it can be a worry when purchasing handheld hoovers but this allows us enough time to hoover 5 to 6 room’s floors including hallway and stairs on a single charge.
Features on this device are excellent, Light on front of suction head is extremely handy and allows you to spot dirt you otherwise wouldn’t have seen, roller head can be removed from suction head fairly easily in order to remove any tangled hair or threads from bush rollers — when this is clogged with dirt light will turn red to notify you to clean the roller head. Dirt collection unit is easy to open both ends to remove dirt, easy to empty and click back in to hoover. Flashing light indicator to alert low power – device will get around another 5 minutes on normal power which is handy allowing you to finish a room. Having recently adopted a new pet this copes extremely well with pet hair, hair does not stick in the roller, is extremely handy to quickly run over the floor to pick up pet hair very quickly, sometimes I’m amazed with the amount of hair collected on a quick run over the floor.
Weight — Device can be rather heavy at times and you will rely on the wheels and sturdy hose and handle to support the weight during continued use, once you get used to the weight it is fine, however may take two hands to move around at times.
Slight gripes I have of this product is the design of the handle and location of power buttons, this is in the natural position for your thumb, when using for a prolonged time you can accidently place your thumb on the middle of the handle and turn off the hover which can be frustrating. A next issue this product can be slightly difficult to remove attachments when moving to a new another use. If you have a large house you may wish to have a second battery to allow you to swap these, as far as I can find this hasn’t been release yet for this model.
Over all this is a fantastic device, reasonable runtime, reasonable weight, and positives for this device outweigh any negatives. I would have absolutely no hesitation in purchasing this device again or recommending to a friend. I have heard horror stories from friends of being disappointed with other large brand handheld vacuum cleaners, with poor battery life, awkward filter removal, heavy, this is not the case with this device. If you are unsure, don’t be, you will be impressed and happy with this device.
Suction power is impressive,
My main concern prior to the purchase was whether the suction would be sufficient enough; along with if the battery life was as good as advertised, both have done justice
Only downside is the vacuum is slightly heavier than expected
Brilliant vac so easy to use, carpets are so clean!
This cleaner does what it says so I’m happy with that. However, take note, if you buy this directly from VAX you will get 50.00 worth of accessories free. I didn’t get that from Amazon!
I love that you can buy a new battery when the time eventually comes—and it will.
It can get very noisy on higher settings, but I can tolerate that as I’m getting a light hoover and don’t have to deal with cables.
It’s early days so I don’t yet know about wear & tear and maintenance. ALL cordless vacuum cleaners are good when new — the real test will be how it fares in a week, month, 6 months from now.
UPDATE APRIL 2021
It’s still doing well!
I use this mainly for the stairs – being cordless is so handy.
The king of vacuums has to the the corded Shark Liftway, it’s fully sealed and phenomenal.
But, for a cordless, this Vax is still excellent. (You could have it as your main and only hoover).
Battery life as I said seems pretty good and its light. One criticism I have is that you have to remove the batter to charge it – I’d have preferred a docking station type idea so that when you lift it – that its fully charged for you each time.
For sheer handiness this beats our old mains vacuum hands down.
**UPDATE**
The charger for it stopped working after a few weeks. No lights coming on. Contacted VAX customer service and after a few quick checks over the phone they sent out a new charger and all is working again.
First the pros. It’s relatively lightweight, nice to hold, and feels very sturdy. Operating is really easy, there are 3 buttons, one for on / off, one for high power on / off, and one for the roller on / off. I’ve found various settings work best on certain floor types, so use the roller for carpet and larger solid floors, low power with no roller for standard wood / laminate flooring, and high power with roller for dirty carpet. It also comes with a couple of attachments, and the main tube can be detached so it can be used as a handheld. Suction is very strong, particularly on high power, and the roller picks up a massive amount of hair, so much so that our bedroom carpets look almost new. The roller itself is really easy to get out and clean, and has been designed with grooves to get scissors in, which makes cleaning the hair out of it a doddle. Massive design plus points. Emptying and cleaning the (admittedly small) drum is also really easy, and the drum is small enought that it can be emptied into a household bin easily.
Now the cons: The battery is heavy, slightly awkward to mount / dismount (it’s a 2 hand job getting it out of the charger and putting it in the vacuum), and the device itself needs to be laid down or it tends to fall over. It does come with a wall mount that needs to be screwed into the wall, and is fairly good, but it’s still awkward. Battery life is good, as long as you don’t use high power mode. On standard low power you might get 35-45 mins without the roller. If you’re doing carpets, and need to use high power and roller, you’ll get about 15 mins of use before the battery gives up. To be fair, it’s not a major problem as the battery charges quite fast, and it’s so easy to use that a little and often approach works really well, so I’ve only managed to run it empty twice (I have a 3 story house with 4 bedrooms, so quite a bit of carpet / space to get through, plus 3 kids making mess). THe only downside is that the longer tube and fittings are quite difficult to get on and off, rather than just clicking in nicely. Again, not something you’re going to need to do regularly, but it can be annoying when you do need to go handheld for a while.
Overall, in my opinion the pros far ourway the cons, and this has replaced our Dyson to become the reular household vacuum. Doing little and often is much more convinient with a cordless, and as a result, it feels less laborious and faster to keep things clean. Some quirks with the battery and swapping attachements aside, this is an extremely solid, well designed and powerful vacuum, with some excellent features. Highly recommended.
There are two downsides though. Firstly, the filter section detaches way too easily and it’s really easy to accidentally detach it. Secondly, it’s not great in terms of it’s ability as a dust-buster type handheld. It’ll do, but our old, trusty Black& Decker still reigns supreme there.
All in all, a good little vacuum that is handy around the house, especially for a quick clean up, but would be good enough for a small house or flat, unless you want a load of fancy attachments.
* It is amazing how manoeuvrable it is, especially in tight corners and under the furniture. I have a mix of hard floors and wood, and carpet and this vacuum performed well on all floors.
It does a great job with large items like leaves that are crunched up, or dirt particles.
* Easy to assemble – It is nice that it all just clicks together. Less than 1 minute and you’re ready to go.
* The OnePWR Blade 4 has two power modes: Standard and Boost — and you can also choose whether to activate the brush bar in the powered floorhead or not.
* LED headlight – to illuminate the areas you’re cleaning. Works great when you are trying clean up the dark space (under the furniture).
* The Vax Blade 4 has a detachable battery, so there’s no need to wall mount the vacuum cleaner directly next to a power socket.
A full charge takes 2h30min – 3 hours for 40-43 minutes of use.
I think is fast enough if I’m doing a full clean the following day I know to charge the day before.
Pros:
+ Solid cleaning performance
+ Great battery life
+ Easy to assemble, easy to use, and easy to clean.
+ Lightweight
+ Good for pet owners
Cons:
– No complaints (will update if I find anything on continuous use)
Overall, I am satisfied with its performance.
It is easy to assemble, easy to use, and easy to clean.
And last but not least: Reasonable price.
Exceeded my expectations!
Easy to clean and charge, hoovers properly, handy and easy to manoeuvre around.
Hold just fine for me to hoover properly my two bedroom flat, then needs charging, therefore might be not suitable for bigger houses. Charging time is pretty standard, usually i put it for over the night. Makes cleaning easier and nicer, finally no need to play with cables, plugging in our out. Considering the quality of it also the accessories, price seems fair to me. I would recommend this product especially to moms when you need to just quickly hoover around and have limited time for it or even for busy people. Makes day to day life much easier must say. It is a yes from me.
My first proper cordless vacuum cleaner. I cannot fault it absolutely brilliant and incredible variable suctio
To be honest I’ve had problems with a lot with getting hoovers to work well when I’m trying to do something a little more different to just straight floor cleaning. This hoover has done a ton of wonders for me, its been great for cleaning curtains, good for ceiling cobwebs and above all else great for cleaning the car out. Its compact has a good charge that lasts around 40 minute and above all else has enough attachments to allow the user to find the right one for the job on hand.
Back this up with its own charge stand thats easy to install and all round I was a more than happy user.
The Vax OnePWR Blade 4 comes nicely packed and well organised inside a decently sized box; I felt they got it as compact as they could to avoid any unnecessary wasted space.
Upon unboxing, I had to give the battery a charge before using the vacuum as it was low on power, though it’s always recommended to give the battery a full charge before, regardless of the remaining battery level. I thought that they did a nice job on the design of the battery and charger which surprisingly looks quite smart and not too much an eye-sore.
Putting the unit together took barely a minute as everything easily slots/clicks into place and it’s so simple and self-explanatory that I didn’t require to read through the instruction manual to do it. Once the vacuum was all set-up, I did find it awkward to place when not in-use as it does not stand-up by itself due to the type of vacuum it is.
When in use, I found the vacuum to be very versatile and easy to manoeuvre around and the suction was more than satisfactory, there is a boost mode available which will of course drain the battery quickly but provides an exceptional amount of suction should you need that “oomph”. One issue I did have with the vacuum however, was the unit being a bit top-heavy which made my arm ache during my session of vacuuming; just to make sure it wasn’t just me, I got a family member to have a go and they said the exact same thing.
Removing the container was simple but unfortunately emptying the contents was not as upon opening the compartment about half the contents fell out whilst the other half seemed stuck, even with vigorous shaking, so I had to slide my fingers in to remove the rest which is not what you want to do; a bit of a design flaw if you ask me.
Overall, the battery, power of suction and the ease of manoeuvrability are the vacuums strongest points but does lack in other areas.
Pros:
Well packaged.
Easy to set-up.
Versatile and easy to use.
Great suction.
Portable.
Decent battery.
Cons:
Top-heavy which is not great for long use.
Dust compartment needs a redesign to allow contents to fall out with ease.
It was quite weird to use this vacuum at first as all the weight is in your hand so my arms really felt the strain, it was like vacuuming with a kettlebell! At first I thought the vacuum wasn’t sucking up much dirt but that was because it’s much quieter than my normal cordless. The bin was really full, in fact I was really surprised that it had sucked up that much dirt. I like that the bin is detachable so you don’t have to carry the whole vacuum to empty the bin.
It comes with a crevice tool and a dusting head. My god, I’m not using this vacuum on my dado rails again, I could hardly do one room as you have to lift the whole vacuum cleaner above your head – the woman in the ad must have arms of steel!
I like the light on the vacuum head, and I really love the rotating brush head which I normally associate with larger vacuum cleaners. It is really hard to detach the pole from the main body though, as the button is really stiff.
Overall, a super useful addition to my tools. The battery lasts for 45 minutes, like it says, and charging takes over an hour. Very useful.
We own a Dyson V10 too and to be honest weren’t really expecting the Vax to match it in terms of vacuum but we were wrong. We haven’t really been able to split the two in term of suckupability. The Vax, on full power, does have a tendency to stick itself to the floor because the opening on the underside of the brush-head is very small. On a hard floor it’s a bit annoying but to be honest, we didn’t need to use max power. The Dyson is more versatile because it comes with so many tools. It’s also better when using in the car with the extra tools. Another benefit of the Dyson is weight and balance. The head of the Vax is 2.2Kg whereas the V10 was 1.65Kg. Where this comes into contention is using it above the head. It won’t affect most but we still feel it’s good to know.
But with all those positives for the V10, if we were in the market to buy a new vacuum cleaner, which would we go for? The Vax. The thing is, the price of the V10 at the time I bought it was eyewatering. More than twice the price of the Blade 4. So with that in mind, you could have the Blade 4, buy something else for cleaning the car and with the change, have good night or two out!
In the video, I did make a mess of both the machines by using flour but I can report that both cleaned up absolutely fine afterwards.
First impressions of this vacuum cleaner are very positive. It has incredibly good suction power. I also own a Dyson V8 and this Vax Blade 4 a stronger suction power than my Dyson in high-power mode. The Vax Blade 4 is not too heavy and easy to move around. I spend a little while cleaning my wool loop carpet and it picked up an incredible amount of dust and fluff. Within about 5 minutes the sound of the Blade 4 changed and I realized the dirt bin was full. The dirt bin is very easy to remove and empty. Although (probably due to the high amount of fluff) I had to get my hand right in there to pull out big lumps of fluff that got stock in the dust bin. I didn’t have this problem when vacuuming my wooden floor so I think this must have been due to the large amount of fluff that I vacuumed up.
The battery lasts just over 40 minutes on the highest power mode (without the motorized head turned on). I think this is pretty impressive (and much longer than my Dyson V8). You will have to remove the battery and put it in the charger provided to recharge the Blade 4. If you do a lot of vacuum cleaning you can consider buying an extra battery. I do miss the charging dock the Dyson V8 has. With the Dyson V8, all you have to do is hang up your vacuum cleaner on the wall charging dock bracket and it charges while not in use. With the Blade 4, you will have to actively remember to take out the battery and charge it back up, when not using your vacuum cleaner.
Although I’m nitpicking a little bit now, I did get a bit annoyed about how the Blade 4 struggles to pick up things that are close to your wall/skirting board. I have attached a little video to show you what I am talking about (excuse the bad quality, I was trying to vacuum clean, film and manage a toddler all at the same time).
In short, compared to my Dyson V8 (which retails around a similar price) the Blade4 has:
Pros
– better suction power
– much better battery life
– an LED headlight
– replaceable battery
Cons
– no wall charging dock
– it struggles to pick up things close to the wall.
The Vax Blade 4 is my current favourite cordless hoover.
Quality design and materials.
The feeling of using this vacuum feels great. For the most part it’s made out of high quality plastic with a aluminium stem. The charger feels a bit more cheaper tho.
Suction.
This thing sucks… In a good way. It’s sucks much better than my old cheaper upright vacuum.
Operating time.
They state it’s 45 minutes of vacuuming time. During my testing I get about 25-30 min. But I tend to use the terbo mode for higher suction on my carpets. But still more than adequate for me to vacuum the whole house twice with a little left over.
The charge time of the battery is a bit anoying. But that is to be expected for a 4 amp hour battery. Ans let’s face. It you no going to be using it after you just vacuumed up.
Weight
At 3kg it’s perfectly fine for me to use and with two hands I can manipulate it with ease. However my petite partner finds it a bit to heavy to use for the crevice tool, but is alright with the upright brush.
Height
As a tall person at 6″4″ I don’t have to bend down to use this. Just for that I give it a thumbs up.
Customer service
When we received this vacuum the charger did not work. So I went straight to the Vax website and contacted support. They replied within a business day and we had delivery of a new charger free of charge within then next couple of days. While I could be mean and say it shouldn’t of had a problem in the first place. I can tell you with 3 years warranty and great customer service. I would recommend using Vax again for my next vacuum just for that. Having a company on your side it worth it.
So after analysing my finding I can give this 4 our of 5 stars. At its price it matches other products in its feild. If you spend your money. It will be well spent, and worth it.
Suggestion : it would be nice if they can design the battery being able to charge while hanging against wall. we don’t have to take the battery out all the time. one more thing is , if the battery can last longer that will be a definite 5 star produc
Most importantly it is very powerful and is not afraid to pick up the big bits. I have dogs, kids and an open fire place so frequently have to vacuum up shards of wood, lego and clumps of dog hair (in return the dog takes care of all the crumbs). This copes very well with all of these and I have not had any problems with clogging. My dyson v6 refuses anything too big and frequently clogs, it is also a pain to empty – liberal poking with a kitchen knife is requires to remove the dregs (although I think later versions may have solved this). The vax is easy to empty.
The charge seems to last for ages as well, you can turn off the rotor for doing laminate floors which really saves power.
It is nicely balanced and feels easy to control. The light on the front only light sup when the rotor is on – it is surprisingly good for highlighting under table dust bunnies that I might otherwise have missed.
The battery is easily removed for charging meaning that the unit can be stored separately in a cupboard and does not need to sit out near a socket to charge.
It would be fair to say that I am over the moon with this.
Firstly the product is well made, robust and great quality with no apparent weak areas. The motorised head is particularly impressive in design and strength.
The product is simple to assemble and with only four main parts you will be ready to go in minutes. A quick click here and a there and you are done.
Operation has four modes: normal power, normal power with motorised head, boost and boost with motorised head. I found normal mode to be quite average, while it did clear the area it did take repeated passes over the same area. Boost and boost with motorised head was exceptional with a real grip on the surface and delivering a suction not seen before in handheld cordless vacuums. I was really impressed.
One caveat to the extra suction with motorised head is less battery. In my test which is demo’d in the video I was only able to achieve a total of 11 minutes with the boosted suction and power head being used, in boost mode only I achieved 42 minutes which was slightly under manufacturer claims.
Although I was a little disappointed with the battery in top mode I still have to give this product five stars due to the quality of build and performance in boost mode which is more than adequate. The Blade 4 definitely surpassed my expectation and I would have no problem recommending it as it is great value.
The Blade 4 beats Dyson in a number of respects. Number one is price, of course. But there’s more. The battery is very easy to remove, so you could keep a spare charged and ready for use, as with cordless power tools. It can be interchanged with batteries from other tools in the ONEPWR range. The Dyson battery is replaceable but held by screws and only really intended for replacement at end of battery life. With both brands, spare batteries are very expensive.
It’s useful to have the crevice tool (or dusting brush, not both) on board the Vax, always ready for use; you get the same with the V11 but not the V8. The Vax has a headlight, which can be useful at times. Ability to remove the dust canister for emptying is potentially useful but holding the machine to release it is awkward and it’s too easy to release it by accident. Overall, emptying the Dysons is just as easy.
Charge time is comparable between all three machines and so is run time on both low and high power. There isn’t enough difference to be very meaningful. The same applies to weight of the Vax vs. V11, but the V8 is about kilo lighter. The heads on both are easy to disassemble for maintenance.
OK, so why might you pay so much more for a Dyson? Perhaps the biggest advantage is the docking station. It makes it so easy to store and charge the machine, along with two of its many tools. You get a lot more tools with Dyson, accessory heads that are genuinely useful as well as ridiculously easy to change.
I’ve used customer service from Vax and Dyson in the past and found both to be first class. The 3-year warranty from Vax beats Dyson by a year.
There are quite a few irritations to the Vax but none is significant enough to advise against buying. For example, the switch position is such that it’s too easy to activate it by accident. The head tends to push larger pieces of debris along rather than vacuum them up. It won’t stand against the wall, so you have to lay it down when you pause vacuuming. It’s noisier than the Dysons, and somehow feels a little heavier and more awkward in the hand. Enough. I could list more, but Dysons aren’t perfect either, so don’t let those whinges put you off too much.
Our conclusion is that this Vax works generally very well and is great value. The Dysons are superior, all things considered, but If you don’t want to find double the money or more for a Dyson, the Blade 4 makes an easy recommendation.
In the box you get the vacuum motor, floor attachment with a brush rotor built in, crevice tool for nooks and crannies, small brush head, charger and separate battery.
It all clips together nicely and they’ve included a wall mount too!
Once the battery is charged (indicated by some white led’s), dimly clip the battery into place and away you go.
In operation it’s quiet, and yet very powerful. On the handle you have power switch and also another button to control the power level. There are some further leds to indicate which power level you are using. The product is light, looks nice and is well designed. I was amazed at how much dust and debris was sucked up by this little vacuum cleaner!
I really can’t recommend this enough. It’s light, manoeuvrable, powerful and made by Vax who have years of experience. Buy it!!!
