I bought one of these from another supplier, but noticed Amazon are now cheaper at 149, making them quite good value.

These might be rated at 70 Watts, but the bits have very little metal in them and consequently they are only suitable for light work on printed circuit boards. Don’t use them for large jobs, such as a PL259 plug on RG213 coax, they will get there eventually but not as quickly as a humble Antex XS25 with a large bit. The Weller brochure indicates suggested use – outdoor and marine are not “ticked” as being suitable uses for this iron.

The “sleep mode” is really handy to both save electricity and save the bits. It works by monitoring fluctuations in temperature as you wipe the bit, or solder larger areas. You set a time, after inactivity it then drops to 180C until you cool the tip on a wet tip cleaning sponge, or tap a button.

The offset setting is a little confusing, it should really be called calibrate, as it’s a means of adjusting the indicated temperature.

Note, the only fuse for the station is the one fitted in the UK mains plug. One reviewer threw his in the scrap bin on discovering the lack of an internal fuse and complained to Weller about the safety of these units, especially in countries where the mains plug hasn’t a built in fuse.

I’ve had the same Weller iron for about 30 years now. It was in daily use for 10 of those and still going strong now. Only treated my self to a new one as I needed variable temperature control without the hassle of changing bits. If I had any complaint it would be that the iron is quite skinny compared to my old weller so not quite so easy to grip in the hand. But that is really personal preference.

What a great price for a Weller product.
The soldering station was well packed and easy to assemble.
Once plugged in the station heated up the soldering iron in seconds. The display on the station was well lit and the menu and temperatures were easy to read .
I’m still working through all of the features which are outlined in the supplied menu. The solder melted immediately and neatly.
The only niggle I have is the connection between the soldering iron and the soldering station seems a little flimsy even when tightened. I would have preferred that the connector be a lot more stable.

I gave it 4 stars because there was a damage on the box due to the packaging used was Amazon paper wrapper instead of normal delivery box but nonetheless the items are in good conditio

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersReally good. I have been suffring with cheap soldering irons for years that keep breaking down or refusing to get hot enough.

This is a premium product and does the job brilliantly. It gets very hot really quickly and has a good standby mode.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersWeller was the name in soldering irons ever since I started in electronics decades ago.

Having found my last iron to barely hot enough to tin itself let alone solder anything it was time for a new one.

This iron is hot-hot-hot and heats up very quickly. It also by default puts itself in standby very quickly (which is a configuration) which is slightly tedious doing jobs where the time prep’ing cables exceeds the time it can be bothered to stay hot.

The interface is simple, with few bells-and-whistles – not the many buttons/displays of the cheap-Chinese stuff that comes in at a third of the price.

This iron only comes with a single bit, but others freely available as genuine or pattern parts. It was the bits that swayed me away from the cheap-Chinese products not knowing how easy it would be to get them.

The soldering iron stand is heavy but does not attach to the base-unit in any way (unlike the Weller models of my youth which used to clip together).

So I think it’s entirely usable but seems rather expensive. I hope it lasts long enough to justify the premium price.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNice piece of kit, easy to use and hold, one problem is the temperature seems to start to fluctuate after using it for a few weeks!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI read a bunch of reviews on what to buy, and there are lots way more expensive than this, but I picked this one because it was modest priced and had good reviews. I cannot comment on longevity yet, but the difference from my 25 cheapo is amazing, should have bought it earlier! It is so easy to use, quick to heat up and keeps its temp well with a digital display to prove it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs soldering irons go, this is a beauty. The variable temperature control is very useful and has extended the range of tasks I have been able to tackle. I bought some tips of different shapes and sizes, and those were a worthwhile addition. The control unit seems sturdy. The iron is a decent shape, and the connecting cable is of a decent diameter yet is sufficiently flexible. The heavy metal stand works fine, although I would have preferred a larger base with more holes for spare tips (not a complaint, really).

Best soldering iron I have owned. Easy to control the temperature. The iron itself is very lightweight and maneuverable. Easy to change the tips too. Comes with a sturdy iron holder too

I had been using my old Weller temperature controlled soldering iron since I worked in a circuit design laboratory more than 50 years ago and it was still going strong. Can’t get the tips for it now through so I thought it was time for a new one. Obviously I chose Weller. The new model is perfect.

Back into soldering and bought this as Weller is one of the better stations. Good control, tips don’t last that long at the temps required for lead free. Had an accident and the control unit hit the floor, exploding in bits. Looked for a new one…. this has gone up quite a bit since I bought it! But found it elsewhere over 50 cheaper, exact same model.

You can feel the quality just from the cable connecting the unit to the solder pen. Smooth, soft. The unit interface is straight to the point intuitive and I didn’t even need the manual to operate it (although I don’t recommend not reading instruction manuals).

The weller WE1010 Works very good as expected hold temp and when it does fall which is rare you hardly aware as it regains heat quickly very pleased with this purchase.

I used to work as a professional repair tech many years ago, working for a US multinational and the equipment they bought for us was pretty good. This is better, in my opinion.
Iron, temperature control and accuracy are off the charts good. This is as good as equipment 10 times its price.

I don’t use the temp control much but 450c is higher than my previous iron got and paired with proper lead solder (if you can find it) this is perfect for all those precision jobs.

Arrived on time and in good condition.
A well made iron which is now replacing my cheap Chinese iron. The Chinese soldering station had all the right functions and layout but the iron was too flimsy. The Weller is made to a higher standard but is not as compact on the bench. I notice a small foreign particle sticking to the inside of the temperature display.
Other than these observations it is a very good iron.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI’ve been using a a cheap soldering iron for a good long while now, using this is an absolute joy by comparison.

The settings are pretty much self explanatory, temperature control is on point and very easy to use. I am ecstatic to the verge of tears in the difference this makes to my work in quality and overall speed. Kicking myself I didn’t get one sooner.

Others have pointed out that the LCD has no backlight, I don’t particularly see this as a negative because if you’re soldering in the dark you’re doing it wrong and there’s something very very wrong with you. Please solder responsibly and do so in a well lit space or you will do yourself some mischief.

Only gripe I have is that the rather lovely stand has a bunch of slots for what I presume is for your iron tips while not in use. You’d think they would slot in there nicely wouldn’t you? Well you’d be wrong, the (very small) default tip it comes with just about balances in there. Which is close enough I suppose, but still. It would be nice if they were a better fit. I suspect larger tips just won’t.

All in all it’s a fine thing.

    It's like magic

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis is a very good quality soldering station. You’d be better off with something cheaper if you solder once in a blue moon, but if you solder on a regular basis, you can’t go wrong with a Weller.

This comes with one tip only, and it’s not the best I’ve had, but you can buy others and they’re easy to change.

The temperature control panel is not illuminated, but honestly, it is super easy to read, so who cares? The temperature control function of this soldering kit is much more accurate than cheaper models I’ve tried, altgough it’s a bit slower to reach the desired temperature than other models I’ve used in the past, including much cheaper ones.

One thing I do with cheap soldering stations (less than 25 pounds) is check the wiring, and without failure it is either maliciously dangerous, or dangerous through negligence (like the ground wire not being connected anywhere, or connected through a very thin cable which won’t work in a short circuit). I had one short while heating up, so I religiously check each new soldering station I got after. You can rest assured though that this soldering station is of the higher standards.

I really like that the soldering iron is replaceable separately from the station, and also that it has a very light and flexible cable. It really never gets in the way, and honestly, it’s the best I tried so far.

I’ve been using soldering irons for over 30 years and I learned to solder with Weller tools.
In the intermediate years I have used a variety of other brands, but cost was always an issue to me so I didn’t buy a Weller for home use.
I recently splashed out and treated myself to this and it really is a joy to use.
Doing fine work like soldering connectors onto LED strips is a breeze.
The temperature control is accurate and stable.
    Highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDon`t mess about with soldering irons as I have done for years. Get the real deal, a Weller Soldering station. I thought there would be no difference but I can tell you, the difference is night and day. The iron maintains temperature and you know what the temperature is, so you get great consistent joints. Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersPerfect for small component soldering projects, pencil style iron makes for easy handling on small circuits but powerful enough to handle bigger components. Clear display and easy to use controls. Adjustable offset for accurate temperature control when using various types of solder. Well worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWas soll man zu einen Profi Gert von Weller sagen. Absolut Topp! In wenigen Sekunden ist der Ltkolben auf seine gewnschte Temperatur. Beim Lten an groen Bauteilen wird die Temperatur gehalten. Was bei den meisten anderen billigen Gerten nicht der Fall ist.

While I have not used this Weller WE 1010 soldering station for very fine PCB component adjustments yet, I am happy to note that the start-up and basic functions are fine. The product build quality is excellent and controls such as temperature for example, for very easy to set. I like the heavier weight of the stand because it seems less likely for unintentional movement across the workspace.

Overall then, no practical problems with the operation the unit. Though quite expensive, it’s very well worth your consideration.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAn excellent product. Heats up quickly, temperature is adjustable (350 – 370 degrees seems to be the recommended temperature of general electrical soldering) but was I unlucky? No instructions in the box (lots of obvious safety instructions) and some things weren’t obvious. YouTube is your friend.
