In my opinion the finest hedge shears available. High purchase price, but top quality and the results speak for themselves.
A clean cut is beneficial to the health of your hedge and the atheistic of the finished job is very tidy indeed.
Don’t hesitate, a most worthwhile buy.
The shears come with their own blade protector. A gentle reminder that the blades are so sharp so safety first and keep fingers well away.
Highly recommended.
Even lighter than expected, these shears are a pleasure to use
Love these so sleek looking but light and very sharp
Decided to treat myself and what a treat these are..
Cutting hedge and vines more like cutting hair than woody plants..
As per previous reviews blades are razor sharpe so would recommend use of sturdy gloves during use and wipe down very carefully after use..
All in all excellent product worth the extra s
Used these on a laurel hedge. Lovely to use, made me want to prune everything! I’ve used electric trimmers on the hedge previously and these do a much much better job. You can get a really straight, level cut with these. No tearing at the leaves. Amazingly sharp. Having the slight curve made pruning the top edge simple, just turn them over.
Light as well, i didn’t get any shoulder or arm ache (I was only pruning for about 1hr though).
I’ll probably sell the electric ones now.
We have a friend whom is a gardener and he tried the out…He now owns a pair.
Everywhere was selling around the same price, delivery was fast.
Very lightweight , partner loves it for trimming lawn edges / hedge> Quality product but is it 100% better than an equivalent product BAHCO which is 1/2 the price ?
Excellent pair of shears. Still razor sharp after a lot of use
Awesome buy. Easy to use. Cuts so smoothly. Sharp. Not for thick brunches!
Really, really sharp! We are growing two laurel hedges and needed something to keep them in shape, didn’t want a power saw thing cluttering up the shed nor did I want some blunt bendy handled sheers. These sheers are great, terrifically sharp, lightweight and solid feeling.
I put off buying them for a long time because I had seen them cheaper than what I paid for them but I’m glad I bought them in the end.
Best shears I have owned and a delight to use as very sharp, balanced and light.
It has done well in all of those tasks. I do sharpen the blades when necessary, and keep the blades well oiled.
Other than that, apart from re-tightening the pivot screws, it’s been plain sailing.
However, this is not a ‘ lifetime’ tool. Unless you don’t use the shears…my niggle, and it is a moderate one, is the fact that the pivot screws are not up to scratch. It is for this reason, that my shears are now useless. I did order replacement screws, which are available, but these do not work. Once tightened you get 5 min max, before they come loose, misalign the blades, and you have to re- tighten repeatedly. This is a serious design fault, or perhaps designed specifically in this way in order to re purchase the product after 3 years. Works out at about 26.00 cost per year of use. I will buy a new pair, as I still believe these shears are the best shears available, to date, on the UK Market. Hope this helps!
I bought a few years ago a pair of expensive Japanese scissors which were so much better than the things I had been using and so it is with these things: both do the job, it’s just that these things do it better.
If you are spending hours on end trimming hedges and trees do it with the best tools you can afford. You will not regret the expense.
Don’t get anything else to cut your hedge with. Will last many years and is light weight but strong enough to cut any hedge.
You get what you pay for! and although on the expensive side and was alot more than i really wanted to spend on a pair of garden shears but they are worth it. Very light, very durable and stay sharp and don’t get resin build up, still look as new 4 months on.
Best product of this type I have ever bought. Have tried a few before this is by far the best.
Excellent product, light-weight and easy on the arms. Be careful, very sharp.
Lightweight and excellent in cutting, make for speed and ease.
if your going to use them for box or other hedge materials these are sharp light and super smooth, if you use shears a lot, buy some you wont regret i
HAVE ONLY USED THESE SHEARS A FEW TIMES AND I AM VERY PLEASED.
These really are excellent, professional shears. So lightweight and well balanced, you won’t want to put them down. The long handles make them very adaptable and far-reaching. I only wish I’d discovered them years ago.
Like : Amazing ease of use . An outstanding garden tool. Very sharp. Iightness enables more work to be carried out with ease.
Used them today trimming a high , 50m long hedge. Lightness really does matter !
Dislike : l bought these shears on Am.uk . At this time l also wanted to buy a spare set of blades , but not available on Am.uk.
( Tried the other main uk online seller but they block the buying of products labelled as ” blades “: lronically , they sell these shears with blades attached ). UK ,Knife-related legislation possibly ?
his is an excellent tool despite being extremely expensive. It turns what is normally a chore into a precise and satisfying pastime.
Excellent shears even if a bit on the expensive side. Bought these as I do a lot of gardening and wanted cutting of plants etc above shoulder height to not put so much strain on my shoulders. Don’t have to stop so often when cutting higher with these. So sharp and so lightweight. Be careful when cleaning blades, as has been said before. Made in Japan and what are Japan good at making – Samurai swords – I rest my case.
These shears are absolutely razor sharp, which is exactly what you need in a tool like this. Really lightweight and well-balanced, which makes it extremely easy to use. I have used a small diamond hone just to keep the edges perfect, but it’s probably not really needed.
Fed up with shears that don’t cut grass so I paid a little more for these. They are a joy to use, beautifully engineered and razor sharp I absolutely love them
I cut all my box balls and pyramids with it and it worked a treat! Really sharp and easy to handle – very effective. If I had one criticism I would say that the levers could be slightly (2 inch) shorter… But I like the slimness and the blades are good quality. I tried many different clippers and these are by far superior. Must say this is quite important if you have plenty of topiary to cut…!!
I use them for a beech hedge, Leylandi, roses, apple trees, basically anything I can get my hands on gets a trim when I’ve got these out!!!
I would like them to produce a pair with longer blades but the pair i have are very sharp and excellent to use
I am over 87 and these are the best shears I have ever had
Quality shears – I have a few ARS garden tools and they never disappoint. Nice and light with a decent reach and of course very sharp. Highly recommended.
I just made mincemeat of a large box shrub. The blades cut through 2-3mm woody stalks with ease and trim the leaves with absolute precision.
Useful too for weeding out stray rose and buddleia shoots that couldn’t be reached with secateurs.
Very impressed.
Time will tell how long the blades last, but certainly first impressions are very good.
I cleaned the blade with a dish cloth, and sliced straight through it.
Care is required!
Price seems to vary enormously. Seen these at 67 to 75 odd on Amazon and even 90 elsewhere. Much cheaper abroad, but postal costs make up the difference.
Well constructed shears that are very light and great to use. Very sharp blades that can be unscrewed and repaced so that you don’t have to buy another set of shears
Brilliant so far great weight for older and arthritic hands
Made light work of trimming my hedge, So light to use and so very sharp, Worth paying the extra money for over cheaper shears.
Beautifully made high quality super sharp shears. I have no criticism. Garden centres sell knock-off versions under name of Burgon and Ball which I have tried and are not as good.
Best shears I have ever seen or used. I hope they last as well as they are made.
We have quite a lot of hedge to cut – about 20 metres of Hornbeam, and 100 metres of Leylandii which is 2.1 metres high. Previously I have used electric clippers but the batteries on the cordless ones only last about 20 minutes before needing a 4 hour charge, and the I keep cutting the cable on the powerful electric machine. This year I did both hedges with these hand-shears. Madness I hear you cry, but it actually took the same amount of time as with the big electric machine.
These shears are lovely and light and much easier to wield than the electic ones (even the cordless clippers have some weight to them). They are also very sharp, making light work of both the Leylandii and the Hornbeam (both are cut annually so there were no stems thicker than 10mm which the shears took easily.)
The Leylandii hedge took less than 4 hours to do including the top. I split that across two days as it is still quite tiring clipping after about 90 minutes.
One last thing. The method of cutting you use with hand shears is actually better and easier than with electric shears. With electric you sweep from side to side which itself is tiring on the arms. With hand shears you cut front-on to the hedge which puts less strain on the arms and allows a cleaner and easier cut.
These shears are expensive (perhaps three or four times the price of “ordinary” hand shears) but they are so light and comfortable and the long handles give great leverage. If you have a lot of hedge to cut, I believe they are worth it. You should even consider ditching the electric shears for these beauties!
Cuts like a dream, light weight and V strong, best I’ve ever used simple as that.
Fantastic piece of kit. I wan concerned it might not be man enough for professional work, no hesitancy after using. Lightweight in an unbelievable fashion and more than man enough for 10mm like the write up specifies…just don’t get overconfident with it perhaps is my only criticism, no bad thing
Fantastic shears – so lightweight & incredibly sharp. Worth every penny. I was so pleased with these I bought the ARS extendable shears as well!
Light to hold, easy to use and very, very sharp. Seem to be durable and well made.
KR-1000 Ultra Light Professional Multi-Purpose Shears are wonderful to use – very light and really sharp – blades holding a good edge – if you use shears frequently they are well worth the expense!
A quality pair of shears – light and easy to use and very, very sharp!
Brilliant, with great design detail. I love using these shears. Their subtle curved design is great for subtle trimming of globe shaped box topiary. Strong enough to cut through thicker branches. So light and easy to use I have left my petrol hedge trimmer in the shed. Light, well balanced so easy for me as a lady to use for long periods. a great item and investment.
These are absolutely amazing. They are light, easy to use for long periods and give added accuracy to trimming shrubs and plants. They are obviously designed for cutting back less dense foliage, they are not able to cut through branches over 10mm, without compromising the blades. That said, their design is more for light heading, I really enjoy using them and would recommend them.
Bought these shears to replace a pair of English made that I’ve used for 48 years and they are absolutely superb.
Razor sharp, ergonomic handle and easy to use. These are simply the best hedge trimmers I have ever used.
brought a lot of cheaper shears in my life. in a moment of weakness decided to splash the cash. these are the gardening equivelent of buying a super car. looks great, silky smooth, cuts grass , cuts hedges great buy even at 64 and not forgetting the penny
These shears are seriously sharp, so be careful especially when cleaning them. I’ve deducted one star due to the price, but to be fair Amazon are way cheaper than other outlets. Let’s hope I’ve made a wise investme
Excellent product, they are very well balanced and light, and therefore easy to use.
I love these shears. Very sharp, ergonomically designed and light to hold.
Absolutely fantastic shears, perfect for box hedges. Very sharp and easy to use.
One tip, dunk the blades into water whilst using them to help the hedge recover and reduce the residue build up from leaves.
Sharpest and best hand shears that I have ever owned. Very well balanced, even with your grip shortened for close control. Used on both previt and leylandii hedges with which it gave great results on both. Very easy to adjust blade cutting closeness, by releasing central locking screw and shaped washer, tighten nut, replace washer, tighten locking screw. Replacement cutting edges also available.
Got the matching lopers to go with these shears. Really light, easy to manage and so sharp you could shave with them. Brilliant.
As others have commented these shears feel like real quality, very lightweight, and ferociously sharp. After two long sessions using them I thought I’d better wipe down the blades yesterday with some WD40 on a wad of kitchen paper. With a gentle wipe one of the blades cut straight through the paper, and then my finger, which is still pretty sore. Lesson: wear gardening gloves when wiping the blades down in future. Not a complaint, but an indication of just how sharp these blades are, even after a few hours cutting through blackthorn and hawthorn.
Far superior to all the major brand shears I’ve used over the years, with the added bonus of having a funny name.
Worth paying extra for these. Lightweight and super-sharp, they keep an edge for a long time.
In this case paying more has provided a quality product that’s worth the price. The shears are really sharp. The long, curved handles are really easy to use and they’re really light so the extra reach of the longer handles is a benefit not an unwieldy burden.
The hedge is shorn!
This is our second set – the first is still working. Top quality blades stay sharp and light to ues
What a brilliant pair of shears! Pricey, but I think it will be worth it. Coped very well with all I’ve thrown at them so far! Very light, nice to use, and well designed.
The best shears I have ever owned must be careful when cleaning they are very sharp
Absolute perfection for topiary or light hedge work. The shears are super light, very manoeuvrable and sharp (easily kept sharpened with a sharpening stone). this purchase is my second pair, my first pair are 6 years old and still working well but as I find them so essential for my Japanese style niwakis, I thought a reserve pair was a good idea.
They are a bit pricey but especially for gardeners with joint/strength problems, these are ideal.
Packaging was lousy, which seems mainly to be the case with Amazon just now.
Fantastic. Like a hot knife through butter. The changeable blades also make this far easier to maintain than fixed blade shears
The best of the best. I wish I had found these years ago. Light, very easy to use, a top quality product. I have previously purchased shears for half this price which were heavy to use and quick to rust and blunt. Fabulous product.
They’re very light and very comfortable. They are very sharp, powerful and a delight to use. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year and a perfect pairing with the ARS Lopping Shears bought at the same time.
These are the best shears you could ever have. I now have 2 for my extensive garden and have thrown away all the old conventional shears that i had which were never satisfactory.
Brilliant! Sharp, lightweight, easy to manipulate to prune even rounded shapes. Love them. I have quite a lot of cloud pruned box to cut and a smaller flat edged hedge. I was amazed by how fast I could trim them all – even though I was constantly disinfecting to avoid spread of possible box blight.
Very nice in the hand and well balanced. Cuts beautifly. Real pleasure to use.
Smaller than we expected but great shears. My wife and I fight to use them.
Have always loved Ars products, so wasn’t surprised that this was super sharp, super light and well balanced. My poor garden does not know what has hit it.
The best shears and they supply a cover for the blades.
Like no other shears I have used. Extraordinarily light and sharp as a lazar. Hedge trimming has never been so effortless.
These really are the best you can buy unless you wonder over to niwaki (who also sell these!) and spend lots more hard earned. They are impossibly light and well balanced. They hold an edge for an age which is useful because you won’t want to stop using them! I’ve tried top of the range Fiskars, Spear and Jackson etc. and they don’t come close. Yes it’s a lot of money to spend but if you enjoy keeping your well tamed garden in good order then these are a pleasure to use. I have cheap copies of these ARS and they just don’t compare.
Go on … buy them … you’ll be so happy you did!
I am very impressed with the quality of these shears compared to anything else I have ever owned.
It took me less than a minute to tidy a shrub that usually takes me 10-15 minutes. The cut is so sharp that my bushes have never looked so good.
The blades cut through a 9mm branch (that broke my cheap fiskars shears), with ease. It was like the branch wasn’t even there. It isn’t now.
I’m done with cheap alternatives – Japanese steel all the way from today onwards.
Arigato
Brilliant. We’ll see how long the blades last but so far so good. Zz.
I will be 68 years of age soon and am still working part time as a gardener.Though I do have a mechanical hedge saw, it puts heavy pressure on my back as I get older. Therefore I prefer to use a hand shears for hedging and topiary. When I read the reviews for this Ars shears, I was impressed and bought a pair, though they were a lot more expensive than I would normally spend. My first job using them, which I was dreading, was a 200 metre light weight hedge. The shears made very light work of this job with none of the usual stress to my arms, wrists or back. Very pleased so far with this purchase. B.C.
A bit expensive but you get what you pay for. They are a quality product. Easy and light to use.
Excellent shears. Very light, can hold them down the handle if you need to use them at a shorter length but the handle length is useful for bigger hedges. Cut brilliantly.
These are in a completely different league to normal garden shears. Simple and well engineered.
The Ferrari of shears. Lightweight quality construction and razor sharp.
The blades are very sharp and although not easily sharpenable as they are chrome plated on high carbon steel which also means they should not rust.
The blades and all of the other bits are replaceable however although I have not needed replacement parts and it looks from how they are made it will be a long time before I do it was very difficult to find anywhere to buy spares.
As a finishing touch I liked the protective sleeve that covered the blades.
Does the job. Best shears I have owned. Worth the expense. Looks likely to last a lifetime or two
Sometimes a good tool is worth the extra and repays you with satisfaction. Better to buy a good pair of shears than these powered hedgecutters any day.
hese are superb, and have halved the effort of trimming our many shrubs and hedges. They are so light so well designed and so efficient its almost made pruning and trimming a pleasure!
The best sheers I ever used. Light weight and very sharp and the handles are very comfy too, You just can’t beat the Japanese blades workmanship. Worth for what I paid for.
Strongly recommended!
Great pair of shears which are a joy to use.
They look and feel like they will last a lifetime.
But I needed a new pair of shears as all my others are old have been sharpened so many times and although they still work are getting worn in the fixings and don’t hold there position for that long before they need adjusting.
These have had great reviews and being Japanese you know the steel is good at this level and ARS do not make rubbish.
They are light strong and the sharpest shears I have ever owned, comfortable to use because of their lightness I can do nothing but recommend these shears, the only thing against them is their length makes them a bit to unwieldy for topiary but I have other shears etc for that.
