After reading a bunch of reviews here, even though a lot said this drill was useless and couldn’t drill walls well, I decided to risk it.
I have no idea what these people are talking about I’ve a bunch of shelves up and some pictures and it was not a problem, so much that I didn’t realise I didn’t have it on the hammer function. I will say the hammer function made it easier but until I noticed it, it wasn’t a problem. All round this seems a good drill for the price the only downfall is the thin plastic carry box it comes in, they may as well not have bothered. It’s cheap, thin and honestly only holds the drill (and battery if you can actually find a spot)but forget keeping the charger in it.
All in all its not been as horrific as the reviews make out. It’s a great little drill, great price just ignore the case.
Not used it yet but it all seems good. Will update if any problems
After using my (tradesman) father-in-laws makita drill/screwdriver, I wondered how I ever lived without one. But while I do hobby woodwork, and DIY, I couldn’t justify paying the kind of money for the pro makita set up that I’d become accustomed to. I had to get a cheap one, but I didn’t want a shonky cheap unrecognisable brand from china that’s poor quality.
Black and decker aren’t what they used to be, but it is still a quality item. Before buying I looked at and compared the specs of the black and decker to that of my FIL’s (200 quid) makita, and they weren’t far off, the makita has 42nm of torque and the Black and decker has 40nm. Both 18v. Pro Makita has fast charger and the battery is around 3Ah or 4Ah, while the black and decker is 1.5Ah, and so is the charger. So it takes longer to charge, like 4 hours, but remember this is a DIY/hobbyists tool, not a tradesman’s tool, and you won’t likely require fast charging times of a tradie on the job that cant continue work and is under pressure (you can buy a fast charger but its another 30 or 40 quid).
I bought a second battery, a knock-off Chinese one, it works great, but the plastic clips and release button feel really cheap and brittle. It’ll do for when my B&D battery is charging though, and after feeling the quality of the unbranded battery, it reassured me that I’d got good quality for a cheap enough price with the black and decker.
The black and decker’s performance during use, plus its comparison to it’s cheaper alternatives, really impressed me. It punches above its weight for the price. The battery life seems fine. It is very lightweight (without feeling too cheap) and it feels ergonomic. It is comparitively compact compared to expensive pro tools but without being weedy.
I’d rather pay 40 for a quality item, than 20 for a poor quality, unreliable tool that let’s you down. That’s the difference between cheap, and good value.
This thing is small but mighty. To the people saying it’s weak make sure you put it on the drill setting (drill bit symbol) and in gear 1 you won’t be able to stop it spinning with your hand so you can imagine what the force is at the drill bit in the middle of the chuck and grip is my strong point training in the gym and doing calisthenics for 9+ years. I can just about squeeze and stop it spinning in gear 2 and even that requires all my grip strength They did something special with the gearing. Watch the brick experiment channel for better knowledge
Chose it because of 40nm torque and is good for drilling into steel with smaller drill bits and all household work. It doesn’t feel like it would be able to drill for long periods seems like it would overheat or put unnecessary stress on the motor, the motor inside looks kinda cheap and isn’t that big but not small either. Either way great value for the money had it for a year now and it’s still just as good as the day I bought it just use it within it’s limits, look after it and it should last a long time
Bought this for my Daughter as she has moved house she loves it long battery life easy to use.
Needed a new drill as my previous Black & Decker was at least 40 years old. Saw this one on offer & very pleased with this purchase, would recommend.
Absolutely love this product. Extremely versatile and easy to use. Very well designed.
Not a heavy drill to use but has the same output.
Worth the little extra money to go for a good brand
Ideal for d.i.y. and arrived promptly.Only quibble, the drill box lid was partially stuck and a bit of a hassle to open.
Seems powerful enough, charges quickly and is pretty lightweight to handle
Great little tool this. Make sure you fully charge it before using it. I’ve charged it once in a couple of weeks since I’ve had it and it’s still going. I bought the Black + Decker A7188 Drill and Screwdriver Bit Set 50-Piece to go with this.
Very easy to use for an older lady (me) and my daughter to repair a fence and a light weight which really helped. Managed the repair of 6 foot fence easily and did not run out of battery.
It’s really nice and powerful but battery lasts only couple of hours.
It’s got a perfect grip, relatively lightweight.
I highly recommend it.
Good drill. Value for money. Case is not quality very poor falls apart every time you open i
Easy to use and used on brick outside and was super easy to use.
Keyless chuck so easy to change from drill bit to screwdriver attachment.
Speeds are easy to change and button on side is handy to switch directions.
Only slightly annoying part is you have to remove the battery to store in the case.
I have so far just used the hammer drill function. It was effective, easy to use and smaller than my old one. I speak as a female pensioner so it would be fine for anyone. Charging the battery is quick and easy too.
I purchased this drill complete with two batteries and a hard case as it was cheaper than purchasing a single, let alone twoinbatteries for a perfectly serviceable Draper 18v drill.
Black and Decker produce good tools as a reasonable price and I am very pleased with this purchase. It isn’t as well made as some competitors, but the price difference and an accepted brand name make up the the reduction in quality. So what does the drill do?
+. Two drill speeds
+. Hammer drill option – it will penetrate hard masonry at a reasonable rate.
+. Keyless chuck which holds both drills and the included screwdriver attachment firmly
+. Torque control with 10 settings
The drill is very compact and is quite light, which might suit an older user.
Overall a great little drill, two batteries, light and more than up to the job for those like me, who require a drill periodically.
Absolutely excellent for driving screws and light drilling jobs. Doesn’t cope well with drilling into masonry so I won’t be getting rid of my old corded drill any time soon.
I loved this product it helped me a lot to install some appliances at home. I really recommend it. The battery is powerful and I could use it for more than 1 hour without lost performance. I’m really happy with this acquisition.
Really good brand, I haven’t used it yet as I got it as a Xmas present, it is light weight.
Great value, helped get the job done in an old house that required a hammer drill for shelving, pictures etc.
I AM NOT A DIY MAN! I am more like Frank Spencer when it comes to DIY and putting flat pack items together, I also lose the plot very quickly and my screwdriver could easily be found embedded in the wall or worse, a person!
But having this instead of a handheld screwdriver is priceless!
I have purchased cheap battery screwdrivers in the past but they were just as bad as a normal handheld one, atleast a handheld one didn’t run out of power after one screw!!
This Black and Decker though has been a Godsend and although it was a good price and saves me getting angry, I’m less likely to throw it at the wall!
My father in law liked it so we surprised him with one this Christmas
Used this for drilling into brick. No issues at all. Nice range of torque settings plus 2 speed settings. Probably wouldn’t handle professional work for long periods but for household it’s very good
Drill does everything I expected to. Only issue I’ve come across is the chuck sometimes locks up but of wiggling gets it loose.
I used for lots of diy jobs but you need to purchase the set of drill bits to go with this. Small, light easy to use. Good battery. Come with case but I struggle every time to slot it back into the case. Excellent value, would recommend
Likes. Lightweight and manoeuvrable, a good all purpose drill. No problem with the chuck as mentioned in some reviews. The drill only comes with a 1.5A battery which is a bit lightweight in comparison to others. I have some other B&D battery tools so have spare batteries. Dislikes. The carry box it comes with is useless. It has been cut down in size to make it impossible to fit the drill in with battery attached (yes, you have to remove the battery to fit it in!) and you cannot fit the drill in with a bit in place. Who designs these things?
I liked it because it was much cheaper than Wilkos and I received it in time for my requirements.
Great value. Sturdy grip light weight only used one time as yet seems very good
Bought as a present so not able to give a full review. Checked it when it arrived and it seems okay. 2 batteries will make sure you don’t go flat.
This is my 1st drill so I had to go online in search of videos how to use. A good manual would be useful. It doesn’t come with bits so I had to order these separately which delayed my diy. The box it comes in is strange as it’s not obvious how to fit the drill and battery back in for storage.
For price all in all a good product but would have been nice to have a few more drill bits to go with the drill. Good make well made and robust light easy to use just not enough accessories.
I bought this to install my ring doorbell and for a couple of jobs inside the house. Because I live on my own and I’m not very good at this sort of thing I ask my landlord to come round who does a few odd jobs whenever I need them. He was so impressed that’s the drill that he brought with him he decided not to use because he said that this one was far better and also he was very impressed with the ‘Black & Decker’ drill bits that accompany the item. I do have to point out that they are bought separately through ‘Amazon’ because they don’t come with the drill itself.
Purchased for my daughter lightweight drill to do basics around her new house. Generally very good for lightweight jobs
Using this drill for some of my craftwork and it works brilliantly
Great little drill for the price. Looks like it will do all we need it to and more and in this price range it was by far the best. That is Unless you took a chance on a Umbungo make which looked more enticing with two Batterys that promised the earth or went for a item with less spec but a well known brand with a history to fall back on.
Great drill! Amazing the difference between a normal drill and a hammer drill! Only downside is this one doesn’t have a little light under the drill it attachment. Other than that it’s awesome!
I am very pleased with my Black and Decker cordless drill. It is lightweight, comfortable and powerful. I have used it for several jobs around my house and garden and it has been a joy to use.
Having had it for such a short time I have not really had chance to use it for anything major, but it feels like a quality product.
Use this drill around house and the battery life is amazing. Rips through concrete. It’s just as good as my dewalts and metabo etc but much much cheaper. So if you aren’t a professional and just need a drill for house and garden then this is the one.
Have only used a few times but all good so far. Could do with a light though
Best drill I have had for ages. Just missing a light.
All good but disappointed as expected at least a starter pack of drill bits. My mistake as they clearly say drill only but somehow in picture thought there was a drill bit too.
I had a choice with this buy, 25 new battery for my cheap 12volt drill.Or 40 for 18 volt hammer drill with battery and charger. , Plus good brand name with metal gears ,no brainer fill your boots with Christmas cracker deal, Jack did .
The drill itself is fine (though comes with no bits), no issues with the chuck like some others have mentioned.
My only real complaint is that getting it back into the case afterwards is a chore, the case either falls apart or won’t close for some reaso
As a complete newbie to DIY I was delighted to see how easy this was to use. Nice a lightweight too which was good as I get arthritis in my hands
2 batteries are very useful and seem to keep there charge.Good to have a battery drill that has a hammer function for drilling in brickwork, very happy so fa
This new drill replaces an old Black and Decker battery drill I have had for 20-30 years and what a difference. good grip, feels solid and is up to any type of screw driving and good for drilling all kind of walls.
My first cordless drill after 50 years of plug-ins. I did have doubts about power but there was no need. Miles easier to use and store than a corded drill. I’ve used it briefly so far for wood and masonry and as a screwdriver with no problems. I even drilled a 1″ hole with a spade drill through a 2″ wooden door lintel. The storage box is a bit iffy. A bit of a Chinese puzzle putting the drill and battery back in after I forgot to remember how it arrived and, getting the battery charger back in the same box? Forget it! I’m getting an extra box for the charger. The battery is stored in the same box but disconnected, which is the safest way. There is space for an extra battery (not included). On the whole – very pleased with it. Just pick it up, snap in the battery, insert a bit and go.
great black &decker drill ideal for home or work fast service & delivery recommend
I was not sure it would be effective, with the small size of the drill. I am so pleased with the drill it’s light very easy to use and I am blown away by the strength of the hammer action.
The drill is good and solid for DIY jobs. I drilled through concrete block and it was surprisingly strong. I ordered another one for my dad.
For 50, I can say it is very good drill!
Did my research for a cheap cordless drill to do a shower install. This one fitted the bill. Needed to drill both wood, metal and masonry and it did this no problem. It comes with a plastic carry case but it would be handy to show where the charger goes when returning it to the case as there are numerous plastic shapes inside the case so it was a bit like doing a jigsaw to see if the part fits. Worth the money though.
It is a nice drill and quite beefy but not quite up to extended periods of drilling bricks/ masonry etc. Very easy to use.
I bought this drill for myself as I find my husbands is very heavy and not easy for me to use. This is perfect for me. As I have arthritis in my hands I find being able to use it for screws great. It is not too heavy for me to manage.
Since buying i’ve used this drill for everything around the house
Love it sincerely
For the price you deffo cannot go wrong but i would recommend in buying a seperate battery pack so one is always charged as it takes quite a while to charge the battery
Cheaper and smaller than some drills, but ideal for the hobbyis
I was up to now a manual screwdriver when it came to amateur DIY jobs. I bought this very easy to use drill and now I am screwing and unscrewing all over the place.
Good price, works well for whatvi need it for which is light work around the house, I want to try it on brick soon so will see how it goes. Is lightweight, attractive and has a case which is a nice to have (although it can be a bit awkward to fit the drill back into the case at times for some reason).
I have only charged this once so far and still going strong. Really good piece of kit, I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to DIY but this does what it needs to no problem
Easy to use and easy changing the bit and battery. Good all rounde
We are not DIY fans. But my husband is suddenly offering to put picture s up and repair things. It won’t last, but at least the towel rail isn’t hanging off anymore. Maybe I should have bought this sooner.
Brilliant value for money. Highly recommend this drill. It’s not too heavy and not bulky so gets into tight places. 5 stars from me
I only need a drill for small household jobs and this fits the bill nicely. It is easy to operate and has plenty of power in it. I also like the fact that it’s red as it’s easy to see as i’m always losing things. This isn’t my first Black and Decker product as I have a scorpion saw which I love and it’s great to see that the quality of their items is consistent.
Nice and light but very powerful. I did a lot of research and it paid off.
I already have one of these drills, but when I saw this one, with gears and hammer action for 50 quid, I had to have it. I use my other one for screws and this one for drilling holes. Very capable piece of kit. Batteries last a good while, but take a good while to recharge as well, so I have a couple of spare batteries on standby.
Well worth the money, and get used all the time.
Really does a good job. What I was looking for.
Great power, quick charge and quality build.
Storage box is awful
I’ve bought a wide range of b and d battery tools now. The batteries are all interchangeable and they work so well. Had them for around six months and all still efficient. They are great value.
Than my previous dril a d so much easier to use. Surprisingly powerful
I did not have high expectations but so far have been quite impressed. All functions work and the hammer function was really impressive. Battery life is a concern as there is no way of establishing the remaining charge so other than waiting until it goes flat the life cannot be determined. Perhaps the new 2.0 a/h battery will have an indicator. At this stage I cannot comment on its long term efficacy.
Drill is good value, lightweight and small.
The case is very small, and has little room to store drill bits or other accessories.
I really like this drill. I am not usually a fan of cordless drills, but this one is a pleasure to use. It is fairly small, in my opinion, but honestly, it is a pleasure to use; strong, comfortable to hold, the battery lasts quite a long time and I have done so much with it already- shelves, bookcase, hanging a blind and so on. I am looking for more to do with it, that is how much fun I am having with this drill! It comes with a case, a battery charger and a standard screwdriver head/bit offering both cross head and flat head. For the price, this is fantastic value for money. (I was using a Bosch corded drill before)
I’ve had one of these and used it regularly for over 10 years and can certainly recommend it as an ideal drill/driver. 2 speeds which are also reversible and controllable depending how hard you pull the trigger, optional hammer action and an invaluable variable torque setting.
As I often find myself swapping drill and driver bits I thought I’d treat myself to a driver. Surprisingly I found drivers don’t seem to have that variable torque control, going more for all out power and grunt. So I thought I’d go for another of these as I often use the torque control so I don’t bury screws too deep or strip a thread. Was pleased to find they were still available.
I had 2 batteries with my original so only needed the single battery option. Battery life is fine and found they can easily handle a day’s diy use. I tend to charge as needed so often been glad I’ve got an extra battery. Recharge in an hour or so.
Newer one is identical except there’s no longer a led light in the base of the handle. Handy to have at times but not a problem for me.
Overall great to have these. They do the job well with full control. It covers nearly all jobs from drilling into masonry, to assembling flat packs and hole cutting. Any heavy job needing a bigger diameter bit I use my corded drill or SDS.
I’m more than happy to recommend.

A great improvement on my last drill. Lighter, easier to use with a better battery
This drill is a very powerful drill,I use it for winding the legs on my caravan, our son is a very keen DiY person and highly an reccomends it.
I wanted a combi drill that actually works and this product is perfect. I already had the battery which I purchased with my black and decker strimmer. It was great value and came superfast delivery.
18V gives it sufficient power. It’s not expensive nor cheap. However it performs well. Good value though.
Ideal DIYers drill and screwdriver. No more tripping over extension cables!
This is a nice looking drill , it’s so light I thought at first t may be a bit difficult to drill into masonry. But when I tried it cut through very easily with the hammer drill o
Brought this for my daughter who wanted a cordless drill/screwdriver I have one already and got her what I know works and i trust.
After owning a cord-powered drill, I was skeptical this cordless model would have enough power to drill through brick and cement. However, I was wrong. This drill exceeded my expectations. The hammer option works nicely on brick.
Got this for my father in law who does a little bit of DIY now and again. Black and Decker are a quality brand and to get this for sub 50 with two batteries was perfect. he has used it as a driver and drill and has performed as expected. if your looking for a straight forward do what you need Drill/Driver you won’t go wrong with this.
Good weight and recharges quickly. Good control on the grip. Also bought the brill and driver bits box.
I liked how light weight it is and I use it at home.
Neat and quite small. Great for tricky spaces, shelves etc
Excellent for minor DIY jobs.
Will review again if I get major things to sort.
Excellent very light little drill which packs a lot of punch.
Simple to use, so light can be used by anyone who needs a drill that is easy to handle around the home
Must have item at home
Screwdriver, drill on walls, polishing your car, making coffee crema…
Not gd: no hooks for hanging on bel
I’ve wanted a cordless hammer drill for ages but didn’t think I could justify it because I have a brilliant Bosch mains hammer drill I bought back in 1998. The problem is you can hear it from several roads away when on hammer action.
I have bought this for small jobs only. I have tried it on brick with a draper 3mm masonry bit only. Without hammer action, it drills but very slowly. When I stopped drilling, turned on hammer action and tried again the bit sank into the brick quite quickly. The percussion noise level was much much lower than my Bosch.
The drill is well made, feels good in the hand, and is quite light compared to my mains drill. I can’t comment on battery life as I’ve only just bought it but I’m sure it will be OK. The battery can be used on other Black and Decker devices which may prove to be useful in future.
I like getting a case with it and the fact that it is a well known make at a very good price.
I read several reviews that bothered me before I purchased. However, I read the user manual carefully when it arrived and am following the instructions…
You should manually tighten the chuck only. Don’t operate the drill and hold the chuck.
Only change gear or mode when the drill is not being operated.
Don’t put too much pressure on the drill when operating.
Etc etc.
Im hoping this will last a while and am pleased with my purchase.
Exactly what one would expect from B&D. Good value for money, loads of torque for even the toughest of DIY jobs and the hammer drill drives through concrete like butter.
Good battery life, lightweight feel but packd a punch!! Good buy for me!
Product is fine, maybe a little smaller than expected, but that makes it more versatile. Perfect for what I need, hopefully is robust, time will tell.
Delivery was very poor though, Amazon. Left it in my main bin, so the box stank to high heaven. The recycling bin was right next to it, come on, have some common sense.
An all round good drill for the price, I put my shed up with it with no problem and ideal for jobs around the house if you are into DIY. The battery is decent and holds a good charge, it’s light and has hammer action which is a plus as most drills for this price don’t have it. Happy with it the only slight gripe is the torque settings only go to 10 but don’t let it put you off. A cracking little budget drill.
Light easy to use. Does the jobs around the house and garden exactly as required.
Nice lightweight drill ….adding to my 19yr old niece’s tool kit.
Excellent for drilling into masonry. The only flaw is the drill bits do not come with it and have to be purchased separately .
Excellent product at a very reasonable price. Easy to use and ideal for those little jobs about the house. Well satisfied.
