How to Choose Your Ideal Minipond Pump
Simply calculate the volume of your pond, and then select the features you require and a pump that exceeds your pond volume.
To calculate the pond volume:
length (m) x width (m) x depth (m) x 1000 = volume of pond in litres.
length (ft) x width (ft) x depth (ft) x 6.25 = volume in pond in gallons.
Waterfalls
Please note that if you require a stronger waterfall flow, choose a pump capable of running a wider flow than you need. The performance stated on the charts assumes the waterfall is a maximum of 1 m (3 feet 3 inches) above the surface of your pond.
Fountains, filter and waterfall combinations
When sizing a pump to run a filter system, it is essential to know the volume of water. This is so the pump can supply the correct amount of water to the filter system that your pond requires.
Sizing Information in Detail
- Waterfalls need 1365 L/hour for every 15 cm width to produce a medium flow.
- Fountain/feature ornaments require 30 per cent of the pumps flow as a guide.
- Pipework losses – 25 per cent of the pumps performance can be lost due to the resistance and friction of the hose and fittings and UVC clarifiers.
- Pump/lift head – The higher you pump water above the surface the bigger, more powerful pump you need. Work out the highest point which you require to pump the water to in your system. This is called the maximum head or lift.
- Filter – Most modern filter systems require a minimum if half the pond’s volume to be pumped through them every hour.

Blagdon Minipond 2000 is a centrifugal pump with a magnetic impeller movement driven by a watertight synchronous motor. They require minimum cleaning; only periodic cleaning of the pre-filter and impeller is necessary.

It is just the right size for a small tub pond. Easy to install with a long length of electric cable. Three different styles of spray plus a tap to adjust the height of spray. If you would like a bubbly water effect just remove the spray head. So far all is working well with just the right fountain effect.

This was a direct replacement for my last Blagdon pump, all working perfectly, but I did notice the build quality is not as good as my original one.
A great little pump for a small pond. The filter is very small so I purchased a pond bag to place the pump in, this has reduced the times for cleaning the pump.
Comes with a couple of fountain heads and the water flow is adjustable.
A good length of cable, have been able to plug in in the garage so did not require the extra expense of an electrician. 3 year guarantee. So far very pleased with this pump.
Arrived quickly. Looks quite well made and although very light, it sits well on the bottom of the pond. Generous length of cable although you will need a plug. Various different accessories included for adjusting height and spray pattern. Has given no problems so far.

Powerful fountain, that unfortunately we lost one fountain nozzle straight away to the bottom of the pond when turning on the pump ( luckily we didn’t like that one much anyway ). Only downside is you have to but your plug separate. Apart from that, great value for money

This item seems to be ok for the size of my small pond .. easy to install and loads of cable which is a plus as in some pumps not nearly enough is supplied. Will see how long this one lasts

I bought the ( supposedly) equivalent pump to replace my previous one of a different make which had developed a fault after 10+ years use. The blagdon pump although it says it is for a small pond ( which mine is) Is far less powerful that the one I had before and the dimensions of the pipe work is narrower. It would need to be a very ,very small pond . However, I have had to prop it up out of the water on stones … It is very quiet in running and seems to work. It would be good in a very small pond.

My pond is about 3000ltr and I have a separate large filter and pump for waterfall, however wanted a small fountain pump that didn’t take up to much room. This pump was perfect as it’s compact and powerful enough to create the desired small fountain I was after.
It is only about a foot tall so I have it placed on a mesh tower as my pond is 4 foot deep.
Although it has a very small sponge filter to protect pump, it still filters well and is very easy to remove and clean which is good as I need to do it weekly to ensure a good fountain spray.
Works really well, however I should have read the instructions as I did not realise it had a internal filter. This filter clogged promptly however after trouble shooting I discovered the filter and as I have a pressure filter system already removed unit.
Bought as a replacement for the same model of pump which failed after ~15 years day time use on a timer. Installation is not easily accessible, so the pump, once installed, has to be maintenance free

Have had to clean it a few times as easily blocked from sludge, snails etc in the pond, but easy to clean as it comes apart quite quickly allowing easy access to the internal filter.

came on time, box came with plenty of extras, pump works great, just one niggle the pump is a bugger to open to clean, needs a firm pull otherwise its fine
Was very disappointed that the item had no plug. I didn’t realise that items could be sold without one these days. The box the item came in also appeared to have been opened before! The item itself is perfect for the job.
I got this pump for my 1000gln pond. It does the job just fine for me. It powers a medium sized waterfall through a waterfall filter, I didn’t need it to power a fountain as well so it’s more powerful only supplying the waterfall. I find it easy to clean and quiet.

The main objective was to provide a pump flow to my 3 way splitter for the waterfall and also to have a fountain. I had to mount this pump sideways due to the height of the water feature and the pump itself, but it has filter inlet holes on all sides so makes no difference technically.
The box has an array of interconnecting adaptors, pipes and different types of fountains along with hose reducers. I managed to cobble something together to get the fountain how i wanted it although i did have to add my own elbow joint which was a standard plumbers part.
i have the inline flow restrictors very low as i don’t want Niagara Falls (too noisy) – so there is a lot of capability to pump more water quicker.
The pump itself is silent unless you put an ear about 30cm away, even then it is quiet. The outer shell of the pump unclips to present the filter sponge/gauze, making it easy to clean.
It comes with a very long cable (5m i believe)

2nd of these pumps have used, last pump lasted about 8 or 9 years, run almost none stop.

It’s a good pump but it’s not easy to clean it, difficult to take parts off for cleaning, plastic is fragile and edges are sharp.

over many years i have had these pumps for my fish ponds thay are without dought the most reliable,very low cost to run,you get the right size pump for your size pond.if you need spares thay are redily avalable and cheap.the cost of the pump and quality and price are excelent,i would recamend these pumps as the best avalable.

Replaced a similar model which eventually gave up after 5 years use. Works well as part of a filter system and minimal noise.
La pompa per laghetto artificiale funziona bene. Ho un laghetto piccolo da 300 L ma adatta anche a dimensioni superiori sicuramente. La doppia uscita poi l’ideale per una cascata o fontana supplementare allo spruzzo centrale. Consigliata per laghetti di dimensione come da specifiche.

Our water feature/pond is about 6 foot by 4 foot, and about 2 foot deep at its deepest but shallowing to less than 1 foot, this pump moves the water perfectly, we have tried all three fountain heads and all work very well. We have settled on the Daisy Super Head which is shown on the photograph below, however it’s great to have a choice, and even more fun playing about with them. Remember to move your head out of the way when you get someone else to switch it on, especially as on full flow you will be surprised how high the fountain can go, or at least I was!! . The flow regulator is simple in design but very effective, we have had to turn the flow down to get the right height on the fountain, full flow was just a bit too much for what we wanted, again a great extra so you can get your water feature just how you want it, and get a gentle tinkle of water instead of a geyser.
The pump also has a small optional pre-filter foam to help stop the blockages which we have fitted, and again it works very well, our pump has been working now for 2 weeks for a few hours constantly each day, I have checked the filter and it definitely stops leaves etc and works very well, and is easy to remove and clean. The impeller housing is easy to remove but locks into place easily, with a reassuring click so you know it has locked in place. It gives excellent access to check that your impeller is ok. The foam sits in the outer frame and it all clips soundly together. It is made from strong robust looking black plastic, and feels sturdy and well made, and is lovely and compact and sits in just your hand, perfect size for a small pond/water feature. It came very well packaged, and delivery was very prompt, a great product, only time will tell how long it lasts but it does have a 3 year guarantee which considering what we paid for it is great. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone, and I would not hesitate in purchasing another Blagdon Pump.
Have had this for one month and it is excellent. The only thing I would say is that at the moment it is not easy to clean the foam filter because the plastic case has to be squeezed to release 2 plastic lugs to take off the filter cover and I suspect this will get easier with wear.

With lots of fittings supplied with The pump I had was a aBlagdon Hydrotech brilliant ,The new one is not as good though it as an internal filter which easily clogs up I have removed mine and the pump cage
Itself seems to clog easily as it is only a fine mesh Spoke to supplier o.k but not very forthcoming
Quite fiddly to put together as the instructions were limited to say the least, but once figured out it was easily installed and has been working strongly since — about a month now. If it lasts half as long as the previous one (over 10 years) it won’t be bad.

Very nice fountain with alternative Jets. Double Daisy jet is our favourite. Pumps up to a wall sink as well (could be a small waterfall). Looks lovely at night lit from around the pump

I am unable to rate this product since I returned it unused, having bought it in a hurry to replace a pump which seemed to have packed up, but which I was able to resusicate. I gave it 5 stars only because one canot get to write a review unless one fills in the number of stars, and I felt it unfair to give it just 1, or 3. One would have hoped that Amazon’s systems would filter out unused, returned items, but nobody’s perfect. I, am a nobody.
