I have a very large garden, one hedge is a farm hedge thick blackthorn and holly. This is great for Privet, Holly, Buddleja and anything you will come across in a garden, I like it and you have no danger of cutting through a cable. However for some of the thicker Blackthorn and Sycamore hedging I have it gets stuck. For that I use the Bosch Hedge trimmer AdvancedHedgeCut, that beast will go through anything, but it heavier and you have to use a cable. Over the three years I have had it I have cut it twice, thankfully I have a safety thermal cut-out, on my extension lead.
I would recommend this, it will last for about 45 minutes of cutting on one charge, you can get a lot done in that time.

    Perfect for most gardens.

Very light weight easy to use hedge trimmer, managed to cut a medium length hedge without noticing a drop in power. Bought as a replacement for a 20 year old mains powered hedge trimmer.

I don’t write many reviews but my experience using the Bosch cordless hedge trimmer has moved me to do so. After two days of use I can reveal that it is quite simply – superb!!!
I have three sad corded hedge trimmers hanging in my shed and have a history of cutting through cables – my record is about 90 seconds. I ventured once into using a G-Tech cordless (having been very impressed with their vacuum cleaners) but found it jammed and cut poorly.
The Bosch cordless is, however, brilliant. I used it to cut an entire large privet hedge and its long blade and free cordless movement meant it was far quicker and far neater than all my previous efforts. Even my wife was impressed – words I don’t often write in that order!
On top of that, the battery technology seems to have come on in leaps and bounds as I completed all my work without the battery fading at all.
This hedge trimmer will go down as one of my best ever investments and I would recommend it highly to any prospective purchaser.

Arrived quickly. Tried it out on one of my garden bushes as was part charged and ready to go after opening. This Hedge trimmer is medium weight for me but easy to use even with my weak arms. Cuts very well and just what i needed after cutting through the cable on my old Bosch trimmer(that’ll now be a spare). Battery charged to full strength very quickly and well worth paying the extra expense to not have a trailing cable. No more cutting through cables for me now! Sorted!

Really powerful for a battery trimmer. So much easier than a cord model and cleaner than petrol.

It was not what was expected maybe I should have done more research I had expected the blade to be about 100mm shorter, never mind it works well just a bit unwielded for my aged hands

Easy to use once you get the blade cover off! The cover is difficult to remove, it keeps catching on the blade. Apart from this the hedge trimmer is great. The battery lasts well too.

This trimmer works great! It has the same battery as other bosh products I own so is really easy to mix and match charging. That said I’ve not managed to run the battery down despite having a pretty large hedge. So I have no idea how much hedge you’d really need.

It’s powerful enough to get through some of the tougher branches. The odd one that it didn’t go through I had to take long arm cutters to anyway, they were beyond secateurs as well.

So glad I spent a few extra bob, the quality is palpable when you pick up this Bosch and so far it’s very reliable, ergonomic and very light.

Having used a petrol clipper for years with the strain on my arms, this lightweight clipper is a great relief. I did have a cordless one many years ago, but the older generation batteries ran out in about ten minutes if you were lucky! The new lithium batteries are very light and last considerably longer.

I have had this for over a year now and remain extremely happy with it. It’s been put to good use trimming tons of hedges. It’s lightweight enough for a good, long hedge-cutting session. I am delighted by how long the battery lasts and the fact that I can just slot it in and get going even if it’s not been used (or recharged) for a while! I did buy a spare battery too but I rarely cut enough in one go to have needed the second one.

I love the extra tough bit at the end of the cutting blades that allows you to cut through slightly thicker branches. Because there are always slightly thicker bits, aren’t there?

The three-way hand grips make it easy to use in all positions and mean that I feel really safe – unless both hands are engaged it doesn’t start.

It also has a function whereby it stops working immediately if you get something stuck in it, so you can’t damage it. I always remove the battery before I start pulling the stuck bit of wood out (just because I’m very cautious) and I’ve never had a problem getting it working again immediately the jam is sorted.

Overall, a really excellent well-designed product.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIf you want a cordless hedge trimmer for thicker or less well kept hedges, then this is the only one to own. It’s a superbly well balanced & lightweight device which cuts through stems up to 20mm thick with ease. The latter is due in part to Bosch’s unique anti-stall technology which reverses the blades in a nano second if the circuitry detects jamming. This feature not only saves time but can also save your fingers as trying to un-jam a sharp bladed hedge trimmer can be quite a dangerous process! This is the longer (50cm) blade model which at a mere 2.6Kgs is definitely worth the extra money and reach and with the equally lightweight and tiny universal battery included, you’ll be able to cut a lot of hedge before the power runs out.

Combine the above with the Bosch X2 year warranty and the fact that this occasionally features as an Amazon deal of the day, then quite simply, even at full price nothing beats this in the 18v category for weight and power. The quality of the blades and the electronics that prevent it from jamming are the best on the market, period. Highly recommended.

A very easy product to use and I am not sure why I struggled with my old mains power version for so long. I was keen to ensure that the product would cope with the hedges in my garden hence I was guided by the product reviews prior to placing an order. Shopping around for the product I wanted had its advantages as I got this at a very good price.

This is an excellent hedge trimmer for a number of reasons. The first being that I can use it at a distance from the house without having to work out how to get a cable there or have to use a smelly, noisy, heavy petrol hedge trimmer. Secondly as a 62 year old woman, it’s light enough for me to use with ease. Thirdly it does what it says on the tin, i.e. it cuts hedges, including slightly thicker twigs/small branches. If it catches on anything it stops and backs up automatically to clear. The battery seems to work for ages too. Didn’t time it, however I got tired before it did so while I had a break I topped up the battery and finished the rest later on. Noise isn’t loud either. Best one I’ve ever had.

The twin’ 18v battery’s for all ‘fitted perfectly. These were from the portable drill I had purchased a while ago. It is not clear when reading the other reviews if this works IT DOES! I already have the non battery cutter and found that the cable was tripping me up NOW I’m free. Would recommend this appliance to anyone. I have 100m of hedging to trim and find this works on one charge. It was only a quick trim and not heavy duty but if I have to change to the second battery and charge the first on a heavy cut OK. My only problem was a long delay from Germany Not sure why. Otherwise 5*. John (a real purchaser)..

Wow! I was really surprised by these trimmers. Having used petrol trimmers for a number of years I didn’t think these would hold their own but I was prepared to give them a try, as the petrol trimmers are getting quite heavy now. Boy was I wrong! I went out to test them on a section of my hedge that had gotten overgrown and before I knew it I’d done the complete hedge. These trimmers are powerful and they easily cut through some of the thicker foliage. They are light weight, very light weight when compared to my petrol trimmers. I didn’t think the battery would last for the entire hedge, I was wrong, I had absolutely no problems with the battery life at all. In fact I think I could have also done the neighbours side of the garden too. I was thinking about maybe purchasing a second larger battery, but now I’m thinking hold off for now and see just what the capacity of this battery really is. Great purchase!

This is one of those items you buy and wished you had got one sooner. The difference in doing hedge cutting with this compared to a cabled model is like night and day. I was mainly buying it because I was sick of cutting through my cables, but the ease of doing this job has been the greatest benefit. It’s now taking about a third of the time to do as the cable factor has been removed. I was slightly worried about cutting power but this cuts through normal hedge with ease.

Also it’s incredibly light and balanced for its size, with a battery that last me 3 or 4 cuts of 10 metres worth of a small garden hedge. I have not actually run out of battery but just recharge it after a few uses if I remember. The one thing I am surprised about is the price of a spare battery (currently 50) but for most people one battery will be just fine. I read somewhere that it’s best to remove the battery and keep in the house if you are storing the trimmer in a garden shed, as supposedly the winter temperatures can damage battery performance if stored outside for long periods.

This product is amazing, so cost effective too. You can throw away your corded and petrol gadgets. Get this. I trimmed a 5m by 2.5m hedge with thick stems… no sweat. The item is light, it’s not noisy, the charge lasts for a long time. I was surprised how quickly the above task was done. I then got on top of our outside house and started trimming down trees that were over hanging that was a done efficiently too. I’m very happy with this purchase. 5-STARS

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI previously used a petrol-driven hedge trimmer, but when this broke I decided to research greener alternatives. This model seemed to be well thought of so I took the plunge. And I have to say I am very satisfied with it. Lighter than the petrol one it replaced, it is easy to handle and performs better. I particularly like the fact that the tip of the blades has a section for cutting through larger than average branches (although you have to set your expectations reasonably here – this is a hedge trimmer after all, not a chainsaw!). Having had some issues with battery life on cordless, rechargeable lawn mowers, this was one area I was concerned about. But in line with other reviews, the battery life is exceptional. This year I pruned back over12m of laurel (front, sides and top) quite severely. It took me well over 2 hours of intensive pruning to get the hedge level and down to the required height, and I managed it all on one charge! The end result was the best I’ve ever achieved due to the ease of manoeuvrability while in use. Highly recommended.

Lightweight and so easy to use, I was in the middle of cutting hedges and large plants around the house that had been neglected and my wife took it off me and finished the job. That has never happened. She always hated the noise and smell of my old petrol hedge cutter and stayed away. Now she is shaping and trimming away happily. Top product, battery lasts for ages, when it needs charging we clear up the clippings, have a cup of tea and then we are good to go again.

I use an 18″ Electric Bosch Hedge Trimmer for 4ft box and 8ft conifer Hedges and it does a super job. I also use a cheap DIY store cordless 18″ which has given up on me. My wife prefers its lightness for smaller bushes and finicky trimming jobs particularly in Autumn and Winter.
I have other Bosch Hand Tools using the ‘All for one’ common battery system so I decided to follow this route and bought this one. Once again Bosch have hit the mark – its light , easy to handle, cuts finger dia. branches with ease and is designed not to ‘clog’

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFantastic bit of kit! I have been looking for a hedge trimmer for a while and have been very wary of battery operated as many have been such let downs! But this has been brilliant.

Very clean cut backed with a powerful motor! I have used it on our garden hedge which is about 12/15 meters long and 3/4 meters high it did the job brilliantly, got half way and gave it a charge which takes about 20/25minutes and completed the rest no problems. Was very surprised and how well is cut thicker branches as well, it managed to get through some about 4cm thick!

If you are undecided about whether to get a battery operated trimmer then I would highly recommend giving this one a go!

Note: I would recommend buying some all in one oil for the blades, give it a spray before and after every job to keep them nice and lubricated and sharp.

I bought these cutters a month or so ago, due to the fact I wanted some cordless clippers. As I hate the trailing wires from my Qualcast 600w clippers, which I had been previously using.
These are a great buy. Battery lasted over an hour. Which was ample time to get around my privet hedges. The cut is very close and perfect for yew and privet. Struggled a bit on the conifers, but I have the Qualcast clippers for those.
I do not regret at all buying these and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. I was dubious at the power and battery life at first as I have been cutting hedges for over 30 years and have used about 10 different brands.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAstonishing performance. Used it for the first cut on 30m of 9′ high Cypress hedging then a serious attack – cutting back 3″ – on 10m of 12′ hedging – all on(less than) one charge. It was slowing at the end but that’s hardly surprising. It’s immeasurably better than the corded trimmer it replaced.

I didn’t think it possible to develop such a profound and romantic bond for a power tool, so quickly – it took ages for love to bloom with my cordless screwdriver – but if it weren’t for the danger of accidental castration in the throes of passion I’d marry this thing. That said, my wife might also have some say in those proceedings.

Golden Review Award: 210 From Our UsersBattery operated? Will it be up to the job? Should I buy a cheaper mains operated one with more watts?
Well, I took a gamble and went for it. Mostly due to not having to mess about with cables. I’m very impressed, in fact I’m amazed! It’s an awesome bit of kit. To those people out there that say it jams, it doesn’t jam, it stops cutting when the branch is too much. All you do is release the trigger and start again. It is after all a hedge trimmer, not a chainsaw. I have no reservations over this now, it did take a few moments to chop through the thicker branches of my Jasmine but it did do it and I had my doubts it would be capable. Read the instructions, read the reviews, and you won’t go wrong. Anything this doesn’t cut then you really need to think about an industrial hedge trimmer or a small chainsaw.
I read so many questions about lubricating it and what to use. Firstly, do not use wd40, it’s not a lubricant or oil. I was I wasn’t sure about silicone or oil but 3-IN-ONE make a multi purpose oil with PTFE which is perfect.
I actually treated myself to a can of STIHL Superclean which is expensive but specifically made for hedge trimmers. It’s a resin solvent with lubricant. Definitely worth buying.
I used the trimmer for about 30 mins but not constantly and afterwards the battery recharged in 10 mins

More of a machine than expected

Replaces an older 10 yr old cordless Bosch which never failed (just borrowed by Son in Law). Plenty powerful for leylandii and similar grade hedging. OK with Holly and only struggles with older ‘core’ branches. Stopping due to branch thickness has been very rare for me in my lightly maintained, 0.75 acre domestic garden
Longer length than my previous device but lighter overall. Battery gave me 40 mins and still going strong when job had ended. Haven’t reached its limit yet unlike the 60 yr old bloke operating it.
Quiet operation, light enough to get a decent reach/stretch when needed and good battery life. Mustn’t ignore its cutting ability which has been great for me. Pleased with purchase and battery is interchangeable with other 18 v Bosch devices

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is the best hedge cutter I’ve ever bought. The blades are sharp – it goes through the hedge so easily. And because it isn’t petrol-powered it is light, meaning I can get through my 30-40 metres of hedge in an hour or so – the battery runs down after about 40 minutes. The Power4All system is brilliant – I recommend having two packs, as they charge more quickly than you can use them up.

Note: don’t buy this without the lubricant. I didn’t get any and the blades have slightly rusted already.

A good cordless trimmer. Not anywhere near as good as a corded or petrol but still good enough for mid range trimming jobs. Love the fact theirs no cable to have to mess around with.

I’ve not used this yet, however I just wanted folk not to be put off by the dire warning about the difficulty of registering for the extended warranty. All you need is a digital copy of your receipt (if you bought it in one of those old fashioned places called shops I’m sure a photo would do!), and the product codes you find on the machine. Its really not that hard!

Wasn’t sure which one to go for size wise so opted for this as it was the largest I could find. I Have a 7 ft hedge to deal with and large bushy plants around the rest of the garden. This went through everything with minimal effort and the job was done on a single charge and in no time at all. Comes with battery and charger which I wasn’t expecting for the price. Great time saver would definitely recommend!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Bosch hedge trimmer is very light with good cutting ability and a powerful battery. It makes trimming the hedge a less onerous task. You may still need to get out the petrol trimmer sometimes or call the tree surgeon but this may make a significant part of the work easier. Highly recommended.
    Pros
    Well made.
    Light and easy to handle.
Good cutting action for braches less than around 0.5 inches.
Good battery that lasts 30 plus minutes.
Intelligent charging system gives speedy recharging.
Intelligent cutting system makes means that it doesn’t snag on branches like some cheaper wired and battery cutters.

    Cons
    None.

    Recommendations
Buy a second battery as this trimmer is so easy to use that it becomes a spontaneous thing to do until you find the batter is flat.
To cut thicker branches use the end of the cutter.

Bought this and the Bosch pole hedge trimmer (they use the same battery) and have found them both excellent. I have a lot of hedges, some very high and last year it cost me over 500 to get them cut. I am a 5′ 4″ woman in my seventies and have found these machines not too heavy and easy to manoeuvre. Very pleased with my purchase

Golden Review Award: 67 From Our UsersBrilliant. I’m an aging female and can handle it OK. Don’t be tempted to get a longer (heavier) one – this is just fine. There’s no such thing as a really light weight trimmer unless you go small. I’ve owned many hedge cutters over the years and this is amazingly better than any corded one. I can’t believe it. The battery lasts for ages and ages. It outlasts my staying power to keep on cutting. Very sharp. Apart from being cordless (what joy), the best thing is the first few extra wide teeth that enable you to chop through thick bits of privet hedge that need taking back a bit. Previously I had to stop and use secateurs/loppers.
Now I will keep on top of my vast expanse of privet hedge and cut it every couple of weeks whenever a few stray shoots pop up. That way you haven’t really got any mess to clear up. I still use a long handled cutter to do the top though. You don’t have to get up and down a step ladder so frequently with a long reach one. I’m not tall enough to do it without a step ladder.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersVery happy with this. Plenty of power for what I need and still light and easy to manoeuvre (I’d class myself as your average strength bloke!)

In terms of thickness of branches it can easily cut through – I’d say anything the thickness of an average mans first finger.

In the space of 20 minutes I’d cut enough off my hedges and bushes to fill a brown wheelie bin.

    Would recommend

Execellent product. Nice and light cuts well and the extra gap of the last few teeth to cut alrger branches is very useful. The automatic cut out when branches get jammed releases instantly so there is no need to unclog the offending branch. And the battery seems to last a remarkably long time. Very pleased with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersBought this Bosch AHS 50-20 hedge trimmer to replace my petrol one getting to heavy to use.
Have now used twice, and find it light and easy to use, specially with the three different on switches on the handle, so every easy to swap from left to right hand.
Battery life excellent, manage to do all my bushes (about twenty minutes) and still charge left, also quick to charge, I charge mine after each use, so ready at short notice.
Cutting ability, not a good as my petrol, but again this is a battery powered, and did do a good job, did cut out on a few of the thicker branches, but due to being light and easy to use, doing my bushes before getting to thick.
Would recommend to anyone looking for a light well-built hedge trimmer.
    First Class Delivery.
PS still trying to register online for extended warranty, don’t seem to get onto proper part of Bosch site.

Very prompt delivery and works well. However, handle trigger mechanism is a bit stiff, but it will hopefully relax with use.

Excellent product as it only weighs 2kg and I can use it…..over 70 +.
Not chopped my legs off either as it has two switches to hold or else it stops.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, never owned a hedge cutter before. This made light work of a dense hedge that had clearly been around for some time. I was reluctant to spend the extra – its cordless and has a battery – but it was absolutely the right choice. Literally no hassle compared to, say, mowing a lawn with a cabled mower. Convenient, comfortable and easy. And as pointed out by other reviewers, a good price compared to the high street retailers. Possibly one of the best purchases i’ve made, and i’m sure its power and beauty drew the attention of the neighbours too as my hedge is in the front garden!

Golden Review Award: 62 From Our UsersI bought this to help to keep a length of Cornish hedge and a very narrow verge free of brambles, long grass, gone-over ferns and so on, because it seemed more versatile than a strimmer – and it is! So far, I have tidied the Cornish hedge, trimmed back overgrown euonymus, privet, gorse and escallonia bushes, and found it works a treat cutting back herbaceous perennials like Japanese anemones and catmint. It even cuts back bamboos, apart from old thick ones. I wish I had bought one years ago!
The battery charges very quickly, and although the instructions say that it will last for 45 minutes trimming, you have to remember that that is for continuous use – switched on all the time. Used as I use it, an hour’s work (involving stopping to pick things up, or using loppers to cut the thicker bits) hardly seems to make any impression on the battery at all.
The instructions also say that it will cut up to 20 mm thickness. I have found that over-optimistic, and it depends on the hardness of what you are cutting. Trying to cut even quite thin blackthorn twigs will make it stop, whereas it will cut through a greater thickness of softer fuchsia or euonymus.
This is an even more useful bit of gear than I had expected.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt works well. Though don’t expect it to cut like a mains powered machine as it doesn’t have the torque.

Used once seems to do the job, not as good as an electric as regards to cut quality. But it is nice and light and easier to use than a corded one. Would not want to cut a large hedge with it, but for my size of hedge it is fine.

Cuts twiggy and grassy stuff well, potential to ‘cross thread’ the battery, Been cutting rushes near a ditch where the tractor couldn’t go. Bosch lubricant not available in local shops!!! Using 1.49 Rapide Garden and Agri Machinery Spray and 3 in 1 oil. Got 2×30 metre Hawthorn hedges to do, I expect I’ll flake out before it does, I’ll probably get a man in for them. Bought for trimming flowering shrubs as they finish.

Golden Review Award: 76 From Our UsersA wonderful hedge cutter, and so light to use. I find I use it much more frequently than when I used a mains-powered electric cutter. Now I can occupy a few spare minutes with a quick trim – no need to go to all the bother of getting extension cables out, and no danger of cutting the cord. And it is quiet – no need for ear protectors, unlike petrol hedge cutters. I have not yet managed to flatten the battery, even after an hour’s usage. It is powerful – with care it will happily chew its way through thick branches.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersIt’s great, the battery lasts a really long time, really convenient not having a cable. It’s lighter than I expected and I don’t have any trouble using it for a long time but some people might find it a bit heavy.
Successfully trimmed several years growth of the neighbours massive conifer.
It doesn’t easily cut branches more than about 1cm diameter – however you can get through thicker stuff if you back off and have several goes and don’t push too hard. The auto reverse & retry action works quite well – it sort of gives you a warning that it’s going to stick and gives you a chance to back off. Also the blades near the tip work better for tough stuff.
Great that I can use the existing batteries and charger I already had for my drill. I’m thinking of getting the strimmer and jigsaw to match now.

First time I have bought a hedge trimmer. Easy to use, light enough for my partner to use and did a nice job. Only caveat was it couldn’t cut some of the very thick parts of under growth but then I’ve got a Bosch cordless saw for that .

Golden Review Award: 158 From Our UsersI have only used the cutter 3 times so far, but I am very pleased with it. I can only use it for about 20 minutes at a time because it is a reasonable weight, but compared to other similar machines I think it is relatively lightweight. I am just a weak woman! I was fed up waiting for people to turn up to do my hedges and decided I would try and cope with them myself by doing a bit at a time. I did some research and this machine got the best reviews. You need to buy some goggles and proper spray to put on the blade.

My only criticism is that it did not come with any paperwork, so now I have got to hunt round to see how to register it with Bosch so I get the 3 year warranty. If this had been provided I would have given it 5 stars.

Two years on and I am a bit disappointed that the battery does not last more than 30 minutes and it does not cut the hedge like it used to as it keeps stopping if the branch is any reasonable size. I have had it sharpened but it did not seem to make much difference. I am now trying to buy a second battery that does not cost as much as the whole cutter!

Golden Review Award: 45 From Our UsersWe were using our old edge trimmer, when I accidently cut the electric cable. I tried joining the wires, but it finally gave up the ghost. Therefore, we bought this trimmer.

It has proven to be an excellent purchase. What we like about it is as follows:

    1. Lightweight – much lighter than the old cabled trimmer.
    2. Battery it uses is the same as our Bosch strimmer.
    3. Cuts through fairly thick branches.
    4. Very reasonable price.

Note that it does NOT come with a battery and charger, which must be bought separately.
