Bosch have done it again. This has instantly become one of my Top 3 favourite power tools.
Have had DIY cordless versions in the past which couldn’t handle anything of substance, but this bad boy cuts through logs & branches like a hot knife through butter.
Can’t recommend it enough. I’ve been chopping stuff up just for fun!!
After trying to dig out hundreds of difficult roots in a friends very overgrown garden on moving into a new home, we were left with stubborn, thick shrub and small tree roots that no amount of digging could shift. I bought the Bosch sabre saw with little expectation, but got it at such a good price that it was worth a go. I was truly amazed at the results (and wished I had bought it earlier). It simply ate through the thinner roots like butter, and even the really tough ones submitted in the end. In fact, we’re only left with a huge tree root that can only be bested by a petrol chainsaw.
However, as a 66 year old female pensioner, I put this together and operated it myself. There’s quite a lot of vibration in use, and it can get heavy after a while. However, it did the job excellently and, knowing what I know now, I would happily pay full price for this. I also think that getting an electric saw gave it an edge over A battery operated one (borrowed one, but with limited success), as it seemed to have more power. A great addition to the toolshed!
Bought this to open up a wall and couldn’t justify the expense of buying the appropriate wall saw plus as it was indoors I couldn’t hook it up to a hose to suppress the dust. It will cut mortar with the appropriate blade and brick although that is a slower process. I actually cut concrete blocks with that blade by drilling them in a straight line perforating them like a stamp and then cutting with the saw. Again, slow process but it worked and left a neat cut.

Was very surprised at the power. Glad it has a safety button. Bought some addition blades but the supplied ones should last a good while. Usual Bosch build quality & presentation.
Happy to recommend.

It’s a great tool but you need some instruction and practice to get the best from it; for example, the right blade for the material and the correct technique. If you’re an experienced tradesman then you’ll find it easy but then you’d probably go for a more expensive cordless model. In summary I would say it’s a great tool for an amateur.

Great piece of equipment, goes through thick tree branches like a hot knife through butter, haven’t used it on anything else but so far I’m pretty impressed with it.
Since purchase I have sawn down several 4″ to 6″ (100mm -150mm in new money) trees with little effort, one Pergola with 4 No 4×4″ supports, several wild bushes with up to 2″ numerous trunks to cut through and a number of heavy duty angle irons holding up a modern ensuite basin. This is an absolute dream of a tool and I cant imagine the difficult effort that would have been required without it. I bought several blades as well but the 1st wood and 1st steel remain as good as new. 10/10 for everything about the tool. Bit heavy and you have to hang onto it but boy does it cut the mustard! Buy quality and mostly you cant go wrong. John H

Solid piece of kit, good to have the safety feature so don’t accidentally start going at the wrong moment, great to have the plastic cast to keep it Stored i
Has already justified its purchase. It does exactly what I wanted it to do – cutting up old garden shrubs and their roots. Its weight is necessary for stability in use. Good value for money. I would recommend this tool.

One of the best reciprocating saws out there at a good price has all the features you need and the Bosch blades are excellent only problem is the newly designed blade insertion system which I don’t think will catch on but its perfectly usable and compatible with all blades
Love the smoothness and the added light is also helpful in dark places, would highly recommend.
Good piece of kit, did everything that was asked and more. Typical bosch quality.
Great saw plenty of power just make sure you buy quality blades
Brilliant really powerful use it for all sorts love i
Out of the box worked well as first time user of reciprocating saw, I have nothing to compare it too, thought there was alot of vibration while using it and is slightly heavy for long term use, it could have done with supporting handle at the front, inserting the saw blade found this a bit fiddly, managed to cut a fair bit in half hr, used two Saxton blades they dulled quickly didn’t use the bosch blades yet they seem thicker and more solid compared to the Saxton blades over all good saw.

Note: I have updated this review after more prolonged use. Previously I said that the the pistol grip of the pro version is uncomfortable. It’s worse than uncomfortable – I now have a severe blister on the thumb! The 1st and 2nd fingers are needed to control the speed, which requires a light touch on the trigger. This means that they can do little to help take the weigh of this very heavy tool, leaving the thumb to take most of the load. This is not good ergonomic design.
This pistol grip design won’t be a problem on bench work where the saw can be held with both hands. But for anything requiring one handed use, for example reaching up into trees to cut back branches, it’s seriously difficult and uncomfortable to hold. That said, it’s hugely powerful and does the job brilliantly, and less hassle (and less dangerous!) than a chain saw. But for garden work I think that the 700 or 900 watt Sabre saw would probably be more than enough, and lighter to hold.

This is a heavy machine. I have had a problem with the blade jamming, but after taking off the clip connector at the blade end I managed to free it. It wasn’t a third party blade it was a Bosch blade. However, I have done a good few hours of working with it, and it did the jobs perfectly. Extremely efficient at cutting anything I threw at it. The jammed blade has made me a bit wary, but that might or might not have been my fault. We will see as time goes on to see if it happens again.
The blade is very thin, but the actual sawing technique is very good.
I find it too heavy to handle, so I don’t use it as such, but I watched someone else use it, it’s actually a very good product.
Overall, it’s a good brand and good quality, and make sawing a piece of wood done in half the time with better results. The only negative is the weight of the handle which comprises the motor. It’s not lightweight enough for me to use, which is disappointing because I originally bought it for myself to use, but instead I have to get someone else to use it instead. But as a power tool it’s handy to have if you don’t mind heavy weight.
You could also use it as a hire tool and make a bit of cash on the side. Neat idea
fantastic item with a wide range of easy to change blades available

A solidly built bit of kit from Bosch. Makes short work of cutting timber etc when paired with the right, high quality blade for the job.
The quick release mechanism can get clogged up but with a squirt of lube and good maintenance, problem solved.
Because it is so well built, it is quite a heavy tool to use but the useful hanging hook allows you to take a well deserved break.
This is a tool everyone should own.
Comes in a really tough, blow moulded storage box with loads of room for blades and bits and bobs.

Well manufactured and strong tool.
Easy to operate.
Decent price.
Has a good trigger switch.
Nice carry case.
Thi is an oustanding tool that I have used on growing branches in my large garden.
So I use this pretty much exclusively on logs. It tears through both green and seasoned logs no problem.
The largest I have used it on is a 8 inch log that was half way seasoned and it handled it no problem and a 6 inch green log with no problem aswell.
The hook on the top is a genius design that I use all the time.

This is a very robust saw. Seems to have massive power.
So far using the saw to chop up fallen tree branches – small through to chunky – copes well with this. Unit is a little heavier than envisaged but not too bad, the more powerful motor is great however. You forgive these minor niggles because so much easier than cutting by hand.

Was torn between this and the 18 volt cordless saw – but went for this one as I had some hefty wood to cut, and although I’ve got a couple of 6 amp batteries, didn’t want to keep having to charge.
This coupled with Bosch blades was unstoppable, and made light work of the job.
If I’m being critical, there are a couple of things I wasn’t keen on. It warms up very quickly when holding, so good gloves are essential, and the blade change system isn’t the best – it can be awkward to change blades after a lot of cutting, and I found some PTFE or at least WD40 kept the system from jamming.
The mechanism on the cordless saw looks better, or at least more user friendly. But if you remember to use a light lubricant coating, this saw works fine.
But at this price I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality saw. There’s very little vibration in use and it’s Bosch, so should last.

great tool for powering through wood and metals. comes with a blade for each, which seem to be lasting well. cur through a pallet like butter which saved me pulling all the nails out and sawing it up before it hit the fire pit. I guess if you are renovating a property this thing would be a godsend. usual bosch quality, seems solid.
Wasn’t very pleased with the blades wore out very quickly. The saw itself is a good piece of kit. Have since bought a new 5 pack of blades

The saw is quite heavy so the hanging hook came in as a welcome relief being able to hang it on a nearby branch.

Wow wow wow. One thing that’s puzzles me is why it comes with a hanging hook when it comes with a brilliant super strong carry case that also holds blades. Whizzes through the toughest of jobs

This machine is very powerful and a bit on the heavy side, however vibration is much less than lower powered machines I have owned. I am well pleased with the overall performance.
Great piece of kit. Cuts just about anything. Wear safety gear when using
Very useful piece of kit to have. No issues at all with it.
Very powerful and easy to use. Made light work of my tree pruning. Came with ten extra blades (FoC!) and a very rubust case. Good long power cord as well. Flexible blades are brilliant and there is a wide range of sizes available. It is early days but so far I cannot fault it.

Excellent and robust piece of kit. Has cut through everything required so far !
It does the job perfectly.
Also branches cut and made ready for log burner.
Excellent for cutting through tree roots below ground level provided you buy the best blades.
I have a Dewalt 18 volt battery one, which is very good, but my job was to really get into some overgrown bamboo (I’m talking thick as my wrist), and needed something that wouldn’t requite continual battery charging as I wanted to get the job done in a day.
It’s heavier and larger than the battery Dewalt, but noticeably more powerful, I appreciate rechargable battery has its convenience, but it has made me rethink a few things in regards to power tools.
I got this from Amazon as it was the cheapest quality saw available at the time (Dewalt, Blue Bosch, Matikta or Metabo), and it came with a carry case which is always an important factor for me.
I did buy the Faithful banded saws from Amazon also, they were more than suitable for the job, bamboo is hard and will dull blades quickly.
As expected from a Bosch Pro tool. Works well, loads of power and should last for ages.
Two criticisms though:
I primarily bought this to split pallets by cutting through the nails. The unit is BIG so it’s not ideal for getting inside small spaces. The metal blade you get with it is verrrrry bendy and flexible – I broke it after two pallets. Poor technique probably but I had to splash out more cash on replacements blades. The replacements are much stiffer and I expect will last a lot longer.
Cuts through small logs for fire, a bit of vibration so need a sturdy log saw horse.
Except that the blade supplied for wood doesn’t cut to the maximum claimed, I would recommend this.
Very happy with it great tool to have in any kit.
I get the impression it is built to last but I will edit this review if it does not. I tend to find all my Bosch electric tools last well.
Would buy agai

To conclude have been very impressed with it and have no problems in reccomending it.

Whilst using it I found the safety interlock button quite awkward/stiff to use and ended up with a blister where I had been activating it.
