Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMy pedal board has 14 units on it, has its own flight case, and takes up a lot of room in the car. I needed to reduce the amount of gear I carry, so that was the obvious place to look to reduce space and weight. A multi-effects unit seemed the way to go. I looked at various options and, after seeing a few reviews on various sites and YouTube, I chose the GT1. It turns out to have been a very smart purchase.

It’s compact, light, robust and has a massive collection of fully editable effects available. You can customise your sound almost endlessly, and the interface is really easy to use. You even get rotary controls to set your parameters for those like me that like physical controls. The audio quality is impressive, far better than I had expected. The range of effects is excellent too, I recognised my favourite Boss pedals and a good number of simulations of other well-known effects units in there. I don’t feel that I’ve had to compromise very much at all to reduce my kit. Some effects don’t quite give me what I had from my pedalboard, but that isn’t necessarily a negative as the sound is just different, no better or worse. I suspect that with a little more tweaking I’ll get what I want. Most people won’t notice the difference anyway. I can live with that.

Overall, I am very happy that I went ahead and bought the GT1. It does everything I need and well. It fits in the front pocket of a gig bag or in a backpack and the battery power means that I could even go busking or do open mics. Taking of battery power, I’ve had it running on batteries for about 6 hours up to now and they still haven’t died. Don’t know if that changes with continual use, I tend to use it mostly mains powered, but battery life seems to be good enough for most uses I could think of.

I already owned a Boss GT-1B (the bass version), so when I saw the GT-1 at a sub 15o price; well, what was I supposed to do?And, at this price, what’s not too like?

There really is a lot of very nice functionality in this little board (and even more to download). It can be a little awkward to access at times, but nonetheless, as a work flow, it proved simple enough to allow me to record an album of rock covers – all the guitar and bass parts – very quickly, with surprisingly good results i.e., pristine 24-bit audio, which mixes down to CD quality “masters”.

In summary, the Boss GT-1 board is very effective and equally efficient. Definitely highly recommended, in particular for home use as an FX board and/or an audio interface. It’s just a pity that my playing isn’t as praise worthy but, hey; you can’t have everything, right?

Bought this as a replacement for my GT10 that unfortunately had two of the dials broken off, so decided to put the repair cost money towards a new unit. Turns out I have made a good move as the tones available are much better quality, the beauty is that you can feed straight into a PA or line array without needing to drag a amp around and nobody knows any diffrent or cares except for some guitarists. Great for every situation from home use to studio to live performance. Build quality is excellent and its definitely worth the price tag. It is something that you will have study to enable you to get the most out of it but will elevate your performance standards(in the right hands). I have other separate boss stomp boxes that I think I can link up in series with the unit as well, glad I bought it.

Quality unit that you will not want to part with.

Very compact without being too small to use. Definitely not well suited to gig use (though not impossible). Probably only really a handful of different effects, but HUGE scope to create an infinite number of combinations with them all.

Perfectly useable via it’s own interface (ism a little clunky), but patches can be more easily managed by connecting to a PC and using the freely available Boss software.

Also works as an audio interface, so in combination with some third party audio work station software, you can make digital recordings of your efforts.

A very cost-effective way ofvyrying lots of different effects in one compact package.

Also, Boss after sales support was excellent. I had a problem connecting to my PC and I had one to one email support until it was resolved (which turned out to be the fault of my USB cable – nothing to do with the GT1B itself). I was really impressed with that.

It didn’t find it particularly easy to use at first and the instructions aren’t great. But with the assistance of some useful YouTube videos and some time invested, I got to grips with it! Sound quality and effects are outstanding. Great value for money and I wish I’d bought one years ago.

Yo tengo varios meses con ella y no he tenido problemas.

    Funcionalidad.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’m an occasional bass player (Fender Bass VI into an Orange bass amp) and didn’t want to replicate my collection of guitar pedals so got one of these. Been using it for 6 months and it’s a great little unit. Tweaking your sound is much easier via the free Boss central software than the control knobs and TBH there are quite a few novelty patches that are unlikely to get any use but the stuff that’s usable is really excellent and the ability to decide the sequence of effects makes it even better. The dirt pedals are good, but could be better although this might be down to my specific bass and amp and you find them better with something different at each end of the signal chain, but the modulation effects are really close to proper Boss stomp boxes. Chorus, delay and reverb are excellent. For the cost of 2 or 3 Boss pedals it’s really good value and very usable and with 99 user defined patches you can set up a specific patch for pretty much every tune you play. I did find that using a high quality PSU (that’s noiseless on my guitar pedals) did introduce some hum, I had a spare Boss PSU that I dug out which eliminated all of the noise. No idea why but the Boss PSU keeps the unit free of hum. Because it turns on as soon as you put the jack in it with no on/off switch a PSU is probably a much better idea than running it off batteries.

It is excellent. Really high quality boss product for an affordable price. Just be ready to really study and understand how the pedal works. If you’ve had other similar multi effects pedal before you won’t have any trouble.

This is a really solid piece of kit and the effects are amazing. There is a huge range of effects to play with if you use it in manual and set the knobs.
But it really comes into its own when you use the presets and downloads from Boss Tone Studio. By selecting sounds you can go from Beatles to Hendrix to Oasis sound profiles in seconds. It brings a whole new dimension to practising.
It was quick to learn how to use, easy to set up and great value compared to individual pedals.

  19. Kevin says:

It’s the Batman utility belt of multi effects. Gives you reliable, clean as a whistle quality tones galore. Once you know the pedal order of the effects banks (which is slightly counter-intuitive to its footswitch layout) then pedal stacking within the ME 80 and either side of it becomes a thing of joy. Thousands of tone combinations, moods and flavours. The tuner, noise suppressor, volume/expression pedal, wah, stereo outputs, boosts, delays and EQ are worth the price alone…and then you’ve got all the effects! The only snag is that the reverbs are much more limited than the other effects banks so I’ve added a stereo reverb pedal to go after it in the signal chain, and use fancier overdrives going in to it some of the time. But basically, for the price it’s a no brainer core component of a pedal board if you’re into the whole no fuss thing.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood bit of kit this pedal, it has the same amps and effects as the GT-100 but with less functionality.
Only thing it is so small that it looks like a toy, I am using it in a rock covers band to replace the GT-100 I used to use and it is much easier to carry around.
If you need real customisations then go for the Gt-100/1000, but if you need a few decent sounds then I recommend this over the more expensive boards.

Excellent in all respects. Fairly sturdy and ok for solo performer, though if you’re a pop band with people wandering around the stage then you may want the G100 which is huge and built like a tank. In terms of sounds and patches there’s no difference.

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersExcelente pedalera.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersBought this primarily to add a bit of controllable reverb, delay, compression and EQ to my acoustic guitar.
I also bought a cheap 2 button toggle pedal to allow me to have 2 CTL switches and a tap tempo on the delay.

Out the box it sounded a bit harsh on my trace acoustic amp but with some tweaks to the master EQ it sprang into life.

    Delays are nice and varied.
Reverbs are OK, would have liked to have been able to have the reverb as loud as the dry signal for some volume swell effects.

The acoustic processor brings some nice tonal adjustments and with the right tweaks, it makes your guitar sing.

Programing on the unit is straightforward if you are used to these kinds of units and you can also assign the 3 rotary knobs to almost ant effect parameter for live tweaking.
There are also 4 assignment controls per patch that can be used in conjunction with the CTL and expression pedals to manipulate effect parameters like toggling long/short Reverbs without changing the patch and having harsh cut offs.

The chorus is also very nice, which is expected from a boss unit.

The pitch shifter is a bit pants, very warbly on clean sounds, passible when using distortion/OD.

The other modulation effects all sound fantastic, particularly the rotary speaker.

Using my electric, the amp sims sound great as do the various distortion/overdrives.

The editing software for the PC is very user friendly and is great for learning all the tweaks you can apply using the assignments.

Build wise it ferls quite sturdy and it should be able to last a good few years of playing.

Overall I’d say this is a great wee unit, but the 2 extra toggle pedals are a must to unleash its full potential.

If you are looking for a budget multi effects but not a budget sound, this has it in spades.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe Boss GT100 is a great sounding unit, did some reserch first and looked and listened to the compered sounds on the line 6 H500? and Headrush units. the chorus is far better then on the Line 6 and the cost for the headrush was three time the price at the time and not proven tech. So I would recomend the Boss GT100 great for recording and live performance. the software is great but you may have to down load the USB driver for your operating system, also this will not work with os10.9.5 Mac but will work with the 10.11.16 which I have on iMac. two editors avalible Boss Tone studio for GT and GT-100FX Floorboard both free thanks for reading

This is so easy to use. Plug it in and use the dial to select the pre-set sound you like and play immediately. You can also set up to 99 sounds of your own. The range of possibilities is huge so you can create warm clean sounds, dark and heavy, bright and scratchy. I’ve created half a dozen with the wah set on so I don’t need to click it. All with different tones including delay. You can set up this device to any band you want if you mix and match the choices. Worth every penny.

so ive never had ar multi effects peddle nor can i afford to spend a lot of individual pedals at the moment and I went for this little beast after seeing a lot of decent reviews and I love it. its easy to use and has a lot of great functions and sounds. I mainly got this for the wah pedal and the looper and ive not regretted it.
my only slight disappointment is it doesn’t have a metronome but I just use the one I have on my phone.
anyone considering this you should definitely buy it. i looked at other options at less than 100 and although they are great little machines the reviews on a lot of them suggest they break easily and have a large amount of poor effects.
you can go online and search for tone you like and easily input it into the machine and play away or go indepth and tweek everything.
    go buy it 🙂

Very useful sounds and patches too and I was especially very happy to be able to download the Hank Marvin/Shads patch’s at no extra cost which sound great and saves a lot of time programming things. Only problem I had was installing the software I had to do a bit of research to get it the computer to recognise my device and had to install additional software to make it work. I like the fact you can save patches to live sets using the software which once you get it installed is very easy to use just look up some videos its more clearer than the manual which doesn’t cover enough to get you up and running. I been playing guitar for years and this is the best buy yet.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersThe GT1 is a mega value piece of kit which can transform the sound of an old guitar and amplifier into the 21st century.

Make sure that your windows10 is up to date otherwise the Boss Tone Studio software will not detect the GT1, if you use this application. Prior to the windows update the GT1 was not detected by the Tone Studio software. There was a Roland GT1 windows update which rectified the problem.
The GT! is an AWESOME piece of kit and MEGA value for money.
Purchase a straight amplifier (new or old) with no bells and whistles and add the GT1 between your guitar and the amplifier . The effects are out of this world. Everything is in one package, even a guitar tuner so you do not have to purchase individual pedal boxes. The only thing that I did not like was the size of the expression pedal, its ok but if you have big feet then this may be a problem. You can purchase a full size EV-5 expression pedal and plug it into the back of the GT1 to rectify this or you may have to adapt your foot to the small pedal on the GT1.

The unit is built to a very high standard with quality switches and controls on a metal deck with a plastic back. The unit uses 4 x aa batteries or a boss power adapter.

Highly recommended for either the amateur or even pro guitar player.

  41. jillconyers says:

Loads of fun….probably best for home use and not for gigs although it could be gigged at a push. 99 pre-set sounds which are Read-only and another set of the same which can be written over. Like most effects processors some of the sounds are very similar to one another and others are just plain awful but if you persevere you will find a quite a few excellent ones and even if you just keep 4 or 5 of the best this unit is good value and unlike individual pedals you can alter parameters until the cows come home. My wife also loves this GT-1 as she has hardly seen me since I got it – I have squirreled myself away in the man cave for weeks while I look for the perfect overdrive/distortion/sustain,chorus and delay to name but a few.
It’s very handy having presets that are on ROM because it’s too easy to spend a long time adjusting a sound and then deleting it accidentally it when writing it to the RAM as it can be confusing depending on exactly what you’re trying to do as there are 3 options however as mentioned it’s great fun if a little frustrating at times. The operating instructions are detailed yet possibly not as straightforward as they might be and it took me a long time to get to the nitty gritty but the basics can be mastered reasonably quickly.
Build quality is OK only with the top being metal and the underside plastic. I don’t think the GT-1 will take much abuse and I definitely do not like the input/power combined jack at all. This jack will get more use than necessary as it replaces an off/on switch and it is flimsy and is definitely the Achilles heel of the GT-1 and great care is needed as this jack is soldered directly on to the circuit board (as are all the others) and that’s not such a great idea as any knocks are
potentially likely to damage the board – not just the jack.
Overall though this unit is great value for amateur use and did I mention that it’s fun and does indeed produce some really excellent results.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving owned a Boss GT8 multi effects floor unit for about 10 years I decided that I would like something considerably smaller just for use with my recording gear. The GT-001 is probably the perfect setup for my needs. I mainly use it with backing tracks played from my tablet which sits alongside it on my desk. On a second track on the tablet I use a midi track to control patch changes as I play along which makes it considerably easier to get the timing right without having to remember to change the patch manually. The Boss Tone Studio editor is a great piece of software for tweaking or setting up your own sounds and downloading patches made by other guitarists. It also features a library where you can store your patches. Patches can be easily moved around by drag and drop and named to your own preferences. It is powered from the usb port on the pc or can be powered by a separate power supply. The 4 large patch selector buttons are assigned to your favourite patches which can be changed quickly by holding the button down for a few seconds. It is a superb piece of kit for very little money.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAll the bass pedals I wanted. I am sure there are specialist pedals that excel, but this is a great all rounder. Shame they don’t include the power supply or batteries. The tuner is useful. The loop thing is fun. I have a passive J-Bass and the GT-1B makes a useful pre-amp for my needs too (some of the inputs I had were complaining the volume was too low if connected directly). So all the funky growly sounds you want, and a bunch of novelty zappy zip-zip splash rumble pipe organ variants are available. Just plug it in to your guitar and amp, and off you go.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA great unit. It has such a huge amount of options. Possible to create just about anything you can imagine in terms of guitar or bass sound, and loads more.

I had a few issues: this is very complicated to use in detail. The computer software is a pain in the ass. It takes a very long time to load up, and requires the installation of Adobe air which itself is horrible. It seems loading or saving from the unit takes quite a few seconds, so you wouldn’t want to, say, save a whole bunch of variations of one sound, to different patches, in quick succession.

Also I have had weird issues when using the controls on the unit itself. Sometimes if I switch from one patch to another using the unit, it will introduce a significant delay to the signal via USB, almost 1 second. It seems this can be overcome by disconnecting the USB connection and reconnecting, but that’s disappointing.

The unit does not come with a USB type B cable, which, for the price, is annoying. Okay, they’re cheap cables available anywhere, but why not put one in the box?

Also, despite having both guitar and mic (XLR with phantom) inputs, you cannot use both at the same time. It would be fine for recording guitar, then recording voice, but not simultaneously. I was very disappointed to read a highly misleading answer in the Amazon questions section which implies this is possible when it’s not. Technically… Technically, the answer does not state that using both inputs at the same time is possible, but not many people are going to suss that out, the way the answer is worded. It does state clearly in the manual that this is the case, but come on, the manual is huge and it’s not reasonable to expect every customer to read the entire thing before a purchase.

The sheer wealth of options here is amazing, but I’d be hard pressed to recommend editing or manipulating sounds with the unit. You really need the USB interface on the computer for this. You have a full stack simulation including two preamps that can be switched on or off independently and even used at the same time together.

200 preset patches, and space to store 200 more of your own making, plus the ability to switch your 200+200 with a totally different set you saved using the software. There is also a huge amount of community patches available online through the software, but again, the use of Adobe air is questionable because it takes forever to load these. Plus, load any patch and you can edit it any way you like, adding more reverb, delay, crunch, a harmonizer or whatever you need.

This is definitely not entry level. If you want a “push button, get nice effect” unit then there’s much more affordable, less fussy options. But for the price, it’s hard to see how it’s not a massive benefit having the power of an entire stack and a whole bunch of FX pedals bundled into a unit that fits nicely on a desk or in a backpack.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThis is a stunning value unit, offering top end Boss processing at a much lower price than you would expect. the octaves for example tracks very well indeed, something often found lacking when you buy something that is priced in a budget conscious manner. It also fits in the gig bag pocket as advertised! The manual isn’t great, but luckily the unit is not difficult to find your way around, and the many online reviews can also help in this regard. The display is bright, has multiple modes, and the three rotary controls make programming quick and easy.

The processing power of this unit is seriously impressive. The competition like the Zoom units can’t get close on this front. You can for example have an amp model, a synth effect, an octaver, a drive effect, a pedal wah, a noise suppressor, a reverb and a delay all at once. Sometimes there are two of those effects in the Zoom B3 that can’t be done together, let alone with everything else. Things like the overtone effects used to create a pipe organ type effect are massively more convincing than the Zoom equivalent too (probably due to the processing power).

If you really want more than one drive unit stacked together on your bass (and an amp model won’t suffice) then that is one area the Zoom units are good at. I can’t say that’s a likely thing for me, but could be for you. I’m certainly concerned about having a better octaver and other such effects, as well as a foot operated wah (several type thereof) switched like a normal wah into an active preset. Oddly, although I’d probably say I prefer the Zoom distortion effects on guitar, I prefer the Boss ones on bass. I want more ‘edge’ or ‘grit’ on bass, and something tidier on guitar. Neither make really compare to my chosen guitar drive units (modded TS-9 and H&K Tubeman).

I am using this with an Eden WTX264 head and two MarkBass cabs (New York 1×15 and Traveller 2×10 both with HF) and a 6 string bass. The sound quality is again surprisingly good for the price when you consider the staggering number of effects options in there. The synth effects track reasonably well (you’ll have to spend more than this entire unit on nothing but that in one pedal to get notably better) and are certainly usable.

The killer with this over a few separate pedals I already owned is programmability, and the quick option to control almost any parameter with the pedal or control switch (additional switches or an expression pedal can also be added). This means a variety of different distortion/fuzz effects for different tracks, and some rather extraordinary effects (like an organ simulation) that I’ve not found the ideal spot for yet! (EDIT: I have now!!)

Do note the lack of power supply when ordering (I already had something appropriate), but other than that, buy and enjoy! I find the more I play with it, the happier I get. Use the Boss ToneCentral app if you can, it’s super easy to use and only improves the fun.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI wanted something for practice – something small & versatile so I chose this. It can do so many useful things for me such as USB recording, built in metronome, headphone socket, ability to use as a soundcard for VST instruments in my DAW. Jamming along to jam tracks is great & I’m able to get a great sound mix which puts me right in the music.

The software is very easy to use & experiment with – I’m no youngster being nearly 50 years old 🙂 so I need something intuitive & this thing is great.

    Excellent!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI was looking for a pedal to give me a high quality guitar sound. I play a GR55 with an RC 300 in a guitar case converted to a pedalboard. Problem is it’s quite heavy and was overkill for the Sunday morning worship service. I needed to be portable but with good sound. I found it in the Boss GT1. This pedal punches way above its weight. I did a lot of internet research and – as I always do downloaded the PDF manual. Setting up was simple I needed a good clean sound so I hooked it up to the laptop and went to tone central. This is a fantastic resource of professional guitarists programming sounds and making them available. This for me was perfect because I know what sound I want in my head but transferring that to a pedalboard from scratch and Im hopeless, I got a great file called “Sharp dressed man” you find the sounds in what boss call “livesets” when you find a liveset with sounds you like you click the add button at the bottom and it adds it to your library. You can’t take an individual sound but once in your library you just drag the sound you want to a user patch on your GT1. You can then delete the liveset if you wish. Editing a sound in Tone central is fantastic. I had a Boss FS-6 pedal I use two with my RC300 I would recommend this strongly or one of the others if you prefer their layout, I like the side by side. I set one to switch on and off the delay and the other the chorus. They become an extra control pedal so now instead of control 1 you can assign control 1, 2 and 3. For ease I set the onboard control 1 to switch on the tuner so I didn’t need to try and get the two pedals pressed at the same time, though it wouldn’t be that hard. The tuner is fantastic, as well as the readout of key it uses the lights surrounding the pedals so as you look down a big blue surround at the left means your flat, on the right your sharp a red square in the middle and your in tune. You can have the sound mute on tuner this is the default. My wife told me my guitar had the best sound she’s heard it with this morning. I ran the whole thing with batteries GT1 into a cube street ex. I’m now going to get re-chargeable. – When I bought the EX the Roland specialist advised me to get re-chargeable batteries over 2000 mah. So Amazon prime will be hit for them – would I warn you about anything? Well, the only thing I’d say is when you actually see the size of this thing the pedal will probably freak you out. It is tiny and it will take me a bit to get used to it – I have size 12 feet – difficult though it was I had no major mishaps with it. I think it will take a bit of time to be as relaxed as with a full size one but I’m sure it will happen. The payday for all this is that the GT1 my two extra control FS-6 two PED Bluetooth pedals – to move lyrics and chords up and down etc OnSong on the iPad with no hands – all fit in to my LGXT case with my strap and two cables.
I’ve tried to give you a real world view of the GT1. Last week I thought I’m taking too much stuff I need to go small, I looked and found this and I was blown away. Size, Price, and Qualty are all 5 stars when you think that I haven’t even scratched the surface of this thing e.g. Looper, easy and deep editing GT 100 sound engine. If like me you want someone to start a great sound and tweak it to taste or you are a pedal head and you can go really deep -and with this thing you can, especially easy when you leave the screen and use the software – then I can – as you might have guessed by now – fully recommend this Boss GT 1 to you. Oh and there is a liveset dedicated to the shadows so I can sit in my studio and be hank for fun!
Buy it you won’t regret it.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersOnly had it a couple of days & highly impressed with it so far, usual high quality BOSS build, with a metal top and solid plastic base, simple to edit ( thank goodness as I’m absolutely terrible at tech stuff) & comes with a well printed & easy to follow user manual.
Seller I bought from (West End Music – Ipswich) supplied a free BOSS PSU but it also comes with a set of AA batteries, so can be powered up immediately from them if you do not have a PSU. Simple to use tuner using the footswitch lights so can be easily seen & tuned on-stage. Many immediately useable patches built in (unlike many units which seem to have loads of patches there just to show off the extremes of the unit rather than supplying real world useable patches). Using it through combo amp, direct to mixer/PC & headphones the sound quality is excellent, clear & no hum/buss from unit.
As I said only had it a couple of days but it’s looking like a great unit at a very reasonable price. Looks like I can sell most of my other foot & rack units as this covers (with as good or better sound quality) most of them in one compact unit.
    Highly recommended.

I have a Boss GT-10 which is fine but too big for me at home. This GT-001 is ideal for my desk. The sounds are fantastic too. To my ear they are better than the GT-10. Would have preferred metal rather than plastic sockets but hey they have to make more profit. My GT-10 is all metal – the proverbial tank with metal connectors. Whatever nothing is perfect. Thing is it’s fun to use.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLove it! It’s like having separate pedals in front of you with the ability to store your own mixture of sounds for certain songs. Had a zoom G9.2tt for the last 12 years and got everything I could out of it! But the boss me80 is a lot more simple to use! The only downside is I have to rely on my memory for where my patches are stored. It’s like having all your separates in one unit but with a memory. Love it! Just hope it can last as long as my zoom.

I have had a lot of multiffects units over the year and find this one perfect for my needs. Great tones, takes up very little room on the desktop, comes with editor and library software plus a whole load of new tone patches online from the Boss Tone Centre.
However, I could not get windows the 10 driver working and Roland/Boss UK sent me the setup files, (admitting there are problems for some with w10)which consequently crashed my Laptop and I spent over 3 hours on the phone to my PC support sorting it out. I am sticking to Windows 7 for the moment as this unit and my other equipment and software and drivers are fine under it.
Seems a lack of mention from anyone about runnning the GT-001 under windows 10, I can’t be the only one having problems.
The seller was as helpful as he could be and I got a speedy delivery of the item. Less one star coz of the w10 problem.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI may revise the rating up or down once I play with this more but for now here’s a couple of things you should know. It is not well signposted how to download live-sets from boss tone central and trying it on the website sends you into a continual loop of the same links – but it’s actually easy and works well. You download the live-sets from within the boss tone central app on your pc – but you can only do that when your me 80 is attached via usb!
The unit is incredibly solid – this is made for proper gigging. What else do you need to know – well, the power supply is an add on. You don’t get it in the box. Shocker – and costs 20 quid, but bite the bullet as you will spend more on batteries. The patches that ship seem a little rich on distortion and delay etc – I don’t get the sense of a ton of flavours to suit a lot of styes – it’s heavy on the rock sounds with more than a hint of spandex. However tone central is full of patches so a minor issue. Playing in manual mode though is revealing the quality of the effects one by one – i.e. as if it’s serially attached stomp boxes. But it will take a while to master however it is pretty intuitive.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersPerfect for desktop work. Would be nice to be able to switch between banks of favourites (and not just four), and also to do this via a foot pedal. Otherwise, great sounds for the cost – first effects box I’ve owned that REALLY makes my guitars sound like the rock and blues stars I wish to emulate. If you can’t afford the space taken, cost of and volume generated by professional amps, effects racks and pedal boards – this will inspire you by emulating them very convincingly. Enormous fun!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThe unit itself is very good, with a vast array of good quality effects. The only downside is the fact that it is not stereo, as left and right outs would indicate. I bought this unit to replace my old Yamaha FX500 and as for the effects, the ME 80 outperforms the FX500, but the sound of the effects were much fuller across the stereo spread with some good panning effects on the FX500, which the ME 80 can’t do and all the effects are centre placed. It’s like having two mono outs rather than a left and a right. So if stereo is important to you, think twice before buying.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI’m using this with Electric Violin – which without any FX sounds pretty “sterile”. I’ve used Roland / Boss kit for years on guitar (all separate stomp boxes, and all have seen many years of use) – so I had no hesitation in getting this. Solid, great FX, and along with the Roland / Boss driver and app I love the ability to remotely configure over USB from laptop, with EV in hand – creating new, and checking out various library patches. Also, of course, take a plain recorded piece, with no FX, play it back through Auxin, and mess with the box parameters from the laptop to home in on the sound I want when I play live – sweet! So far, I can’t speak highly enough of it – it just does what I need.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersUnlike the other reviewer here, all I can say is good things about the unit. Coming from a Vox ToneLab and having looked at Line 6’s offerings, the GT-100 had a better set of effects, and crucially, was very easy to use and configure. The dual LCD screens make setting the effect parameters a breeze, pedal “assigns” for each patch allow lots of flexibility. Not bad inbuilt patches but plenty to download online. The software is not great, simply a patch librarian, but as on-unit configuration is so easy, this isn’t too much of a drawback.

Lots of good video reviews with tips on YouTube, the only slight downside is that the product is driven off a 2-pin mains adapter, meaning there is the potential for floating ground noise problems between the amp & pedal. Boss do provide a grounding point on the case, but it would seem to me that using a full 3-pin adapter and power cabling would have got around the issue.
