Sturdy Secure Safe
Bought this product as SECURE SOLD so complies with the requirements of my bike insurance. It can be a little tricky to lock occasionally in the dark, otherwise really happy with it and if my bike
now covered re insurance then job done !

Very well made, it is strong and is probably a good deterrent to the opportunist or casual thief. At least it gives some peace of mind down the local shops.

Secure lock ever. Buy it in this low prize. Hard to stole for thieves. I’m using ebike in delivery purposes from last 1 year.
So, this is a Sold Secure Gold lock priced at around 15. (Not Diamond which is designed to prevent the most destructive attacks that could include angle grinders)
If you have a really expensive bicycle, or an ebike, please do not expect this lock to keep your bike safe for hours on end out in the public. You’ll need Sold Secure Gold for that or something even more secure like a 100+ lock that has at least 14mm hardened steel and decent quality padlock
However, if it is in a mildly secure area (a fenced work place for example) and locked, it should be okay.
The lock itself is quite heavy, as it should be being hardened steel.
Personally I’ve not had any issues with the lock mechanism, but I see some users have.
The lock is long enough to go through the spokes of the wheels and frame, or to secure the frame and wheel to something else quite sturdy.
Would I leave an expensive ebike locked [to something solid] with this outside a coffee shop where I can see it? Yes.
Lock it and pop in to grab a newspaper and some milk? Yes?
Would I leave an expensive ebike locked [to something solid] with this out in public whilst I pop off shopping somewhere? Hell no! It’s a 16 lock.
Would I leave a secondhand 60 ragged bike somewhere locked up with this? Yes, because I can replace the bike in a breeze if it does get stolen and most people probably won’t even be interested in the bike.
Would I recommend this lock? Yes
Would I buy it again? Yes, in fact I have! I gave the first one I purchased to someone who needed it more than I.
Should you buy this lock? Depends. If you want to leave your bike in a public space and it attracts attention by being expensive or electric, then probably not. If you just want to lock your bike up at work, that has a secure-ish yard, or at school in the bike racks then perhaps so. Although Sold Secure Gold it doesn’t come with any guarantees that someone will not steal your bike!
I’d say this lock is fair value for money so long as you reduce your expectations based on the price. Compared to other locks giving the same kind of protection this lock is at least 50% cheaper, for some even closer to 200%!

Sturdy lock
Good value for money. Key is a little tricky to get right when inserting but like the fact that the locking system is on the side not on the end as some others are. VERY HEAVY. This didnt bother me as I carry it in my pannier bag but if not it is weighty compared to others Ive had.

I lost my kryptonite and replaced it with this for so much less. It’s got the same independent credentials (gold sold secure). The lock is a tiny bit stiff but I chucked some chain lube in it and nay problemo
Burg-Wächter 40030 Padlock
Very heavy duty bike lock with a nice and easy mechanism. My only gripe is that the frame attachment is not very secure, the lock does ‘click’ into it but can fall out when riding over bumpy ground. I’ve added a velcro strap as backup just in case

Excellent quality - buy lube/WD40
So you see a lock for this price and assume it’s trash but no, believe the hype. I have three Burg-Wchter locks, the three sizes available here, and I fully believe they are Sold Secure Gold quality at a fraction of the price of similar Kryptonite or similar brands.
I haven’t used the bracket, which seems to be flimsy by other reviews, so I won’t comment on it, but for the lock alone I can’t recommend them enough. I left a bike overnight in a high traffic part of my city and it was fine when I came back.
I am happy to trust my pricey gravel bike to this lock and happy to recommend it to anyone who asks.

This is a good quality if heavy lock. I carry it around in a back pack as the bracket it comes supplied with doesn’t fit any of the tubes of my bike.

It was worth spending a little extra to get a quality bike lock and this is well made and feels solid.
Huge lock, very solid.
I picked the larger lock size as it’s useful sometimes for attaching to different sized bike racks or metal poles, fences etc. It also makes it possible to lock my bike to my son’s bike when we go out for a ride and want to leave them safely somewhere. This thing is absolutely as solid as you can get, total quality, would totally recommend. So many people have 600 bikes and use a 3 combi lock to secure them. Don’t do that anymore, you should invest in one like this!
Good price for a sold secure item
Good value sold secure product. I opted for the smaller lightweight version so that it is easier to carry on my small 14″ wheel e-bike.

It’s a lock, that’s rated high enough for my bikes insurance policy. Hopefully it does its job when required!
Big, heavy and seems strong.
Let’s face it, if anyone comes along with an angle grinder, they’ll be through this or any other D Lock in a few minutes.
But they will make a lot of noise and draw a lot of attention.
And also assuming a lock picker like The Lock Picking Lawyer wouldn’t have it open in a minute flat.
But there’s not many with skills like that about really.
It’s a much longer than normal shackled D lock and it is much better at being able to lock my back wheel and frame to a railing or rack than my existing big heavy D Lock.
So now I’ve got two big heavy D Locks and two cable locks.
Hopefully that’s enough to make the average bike thief move on and steal the other poor sod’s bike instead of mine!
Unfortunately a few scumbags make it an ever increasing arms race to protect our bikes when we walk away from them.
It’s a good lock and it was very good value.

This lock is a bit of a brute!! After doing a bit of research I went for this lock and glad I did. Watching youtube and how easy it was for right person with the right tools could easily pick any lock in under a minute I realized that there’s no point in spending loads on a lock and as I parky bike in a very low risk area wanted something sturdy and good value, well this ticks all the boxes for me. Bigger, thicker, good smooth lock mechanism (I did lube it just to make sure) add a very sturdy deterrent for a small price. I’m very pleased.

had the lock for 2 months now, sturdy, the mount is not very secure if you hit rough grounds, the lock fell once so I tied it with a rubber band + the mount for extra security. it didn’t fall after that.

First impressions, a very sturdy lock.
I’ve awarded 4/5 stars because it’s early days and I’m erring on the side of caution because I bought a cable lock from another seller that was a total disaster.
First impressions of this D lock is that it is sturdy and VERY HEAVY as I opted for the medium sized lock! I won’t be using this on my local rural adventures. I bought it for when visiting busy towns and cities.
The key seems well designed because you can’t put it in the wrong way round and I’ve had no problems repeatedly locking and unlocking the D Lock.
First impressions are that it would take time to cut through the shank even with an angle grinder. It would certainly be a deterrent to a casual thief, but nothing is impossible for a well equipped ‘professional thief’.
Probably my best buy on Amazon for bike security was a motion sensor alarm. It’s loud and highly effective and doubles as a ‘hooter’ instead of a conventional bicycle bell. I would strongly encourage you to search for that on Amazon whilst purchasing D locks and security cables.
Stood upto 5 mins of angle grinde
I don’t normally do reviews but had to say that whilst at work I lock my bike in the back alley. Didn’t realise security gate was broken as put bike through building. CCTV showed some toerag spending 5 mins with an angle grinder trying to cut the bar of the lock. They got about halfway and ran off. Buying another as saved me from losing my bike.
Solid but heavy.
It’s a solid lock, a good size for frame/wheel/rack, but might struggle to go round lamp posts. It’s weighty, which is reassuring, but because of that you’d want it frame mounted (which works quite well) or in a pannier rather than a backpack or trying to hold it.

I feel very comfort locking my bike with this in public. Feels very safe and secure.

Came back to the station to find my bike with tamper marks on my previous locks and didn’t look like they were a million miles away from getting through so wanted a really strong lock to give me some confidence back. Haven’t used it yet but feels extremely strong and sturdy so I’ll be feeling happier about locking my bike up again!

A heavy duty lock that does the job to deter thieves from stealing bike. Lock is quite heavy to carry around so probably worth using it as a home lock.
Sturdy Lock
I bought this lock to replace a cable lock after the key snapped in the barrel. Someone with a small pair of bolt croppers cut through it with ease so I’ve bought a more secure D Lock to protect my bike. The lock is quite heavy but it’s always going to be a compromise between security and weight. Anyone on a lightweight road bike is unlikely to carry this around, but then again, it would be unwise to leave a valuable bike unattended anyway. The lock is Gold Secure so is insurance company approved so as long as your bike is locked to an immovable object it should be covered. The lock itself is robust but the shackle needs a bit of a tug to release it. I haven’t left mine out in all weathers but a spot of lubricating spray in the lock mechanism would be wise to keep it operating smoothly. The only minus point is the carrying mount. It won’t fit my MTB, but even if it did I don’t think it is robust enough so I carry mine in a rucksack. No lock would prevent a professional thief but this lock is great value for an insurance approved lock.

Good value, impressive lock. Holder does not fit to my full suspension mountain bike so it has to go in my back pack and it is very heavy.

Seems like a solid lock, it’s long, which is useful for what I wanted it for, but it does potentially mean that it could be leveraged open easier than a small one.
Still a good lock for the price, especially if insurance requires sold secure rating.
Use WD40 spray on the locking mechanism. as soon as you receive it. You will be surprised.
As most people mention in their reviews, they cannot get the mechanism to lock. Easy fix is to spray some WD40 into the keyhole and the locking mechanism and just like magic the problem is fixed.
Pros : Price. Much cheaper than other brands but exactly the same locking mechanism.
Cons : Will not lock properly when you first try to use it. They should include a small bottle of WD40 when you buy this lock, as that will solve all the problems.

Peace of mind protection for bike
I bought this as it is a requirement for my bike insurance and although I only needed silver standard, this gold one was available for around the same price as silver but offering a higher level of protection. I have been able to attach it to my bike and will use it if I am leaving my bike anywhere outside home (e.g. at the shops).
Seems very strong to me
I wanted a lock with keys as the combination locks tend to fail after a while. I’m seriously impressed with the sturdiness and the fact that there are plenty of spare keys. It’s quite heavy but that’s not a problem for me
Too small
When it arrived I could not believe how small it is. It JUST locks wheel to frame ! You need a BIGGER LOCK to attach your bike to railings on the street. Fiddly lock mechanism . Pay more, buy bigger.

My Lock turned up today by Burg Watcher, and i was VERY Surprised.
2 days ago i picked up a cryptonite lock for 34 UK Pounds, that came with A Cable.
This new Lock by Burg has a thicker U part (shackle), it is also BIG.
I went for the Large one, it should give more locking options.
There are plenty of reviews where people complain that the key is stiff, or Jammed.
I nearly let those put me off buying this lock, but then read reviews on the Cryptonite locks as well.
To my surprise people were also complaining about stuck key, difficult locking/unlocking.
Between these 2 locks (both brand new) the Burg Watcher is smooother to lock/ unlock.
Not by much but smoother all the Same, i plan to carry my lock in my Rucksack or maybe on my rear Rack.
Weight/ size is no problem for me, i gather these locks are hard to mount on some bikes. (no biggy)
Burg Watcher make other things including safes, that is what made me think HELLO a safe with a dodgy lock is not a safe Anymore.
So there it is my initial review/ first look at this lock.
Its half the price of a Cryptonite i say go buy one.
THE UPDATE.
having used both locks for a while now, the cryptonite is the more fiddly to undo.
My tips are .
Make sure the key is fully in the lock, and that oiling the keyway is fine.
Also remember that the moving part of the lock also needs cleaning and oiling.
FURTHER UPDATE the lock is still working just fine, as i said make sure the key is all the way into the lock.
It does the job.
I am happy that I have the right one and size and I feel it’s just the job to keep things safe

This lock is huge and is quite heavy. Bought it for son’s bike. Too big to hang on bike but very secure. I have seen it at a much higher price in bike retailer.
Measure the frame triangle on your bike before ordering to ensure it can be mounted/stored within the frame profile.
I have a shiny new bike which I’m sure will sparkle to a potential bike thief because of the lack of wear on the parts and perfect unchipped paintwork and unscratched pedals.
I took out bike ‘theft only’ insurance that stipulates using a Sold Secure Rated lock (bronze minimum.)
This was great value with a gold rating.
I read complaints in reviews about the stiffness of the mechanism and the weak mounting bracket.
It has probably sat on a warehouse shelf for a long time so give it a good squirt of oil when it arrives and it should be fine.
It is a standard reliable design and with the occasional oiling to keep water out of the cylinder it should last as long as my bike does.
The mounting bracket is small and positioned at the block end, it can be unscrewed and moved but I would recommend attaching a Velcro strap to distribute the weight across frame and take the stress off the plastic guide runner.
In conclusion very happy with the price and the gold rating means the product has been tested to destruction against various attacks by an independent non profit security organisation.
I have not found any other locks at this bargain price point that have been officially tested and certified.
Great heavy duty lock
Very heavy but so far doing a fantastic job of keeping thieves away. Having had 2 bikes stolen in last 2 years including 1 almost brand new we now have this lock an alarm and insurance. As the lock is insurance rated above what our policy requires I feel safe in the knowledge that should it be breached the insurance will still cover us. Highly recommend

Very solid lock. Outstanding quality for the price paid. It is quite heavy, but as long as you can carry it in a rucksack or pannier bag it will provide a high security solution whenever you need it.

Full Review: Bought 2 large D-Locks (+2 medium). Quickly realised I got a bargain. Both sides of the shackle lock to the barrel which makes it even tougher to penetrate. The shackle is very thick. You’d need an angle grinder to cut it so should resist most attacks.
Just keep in mind, there’s no lock on earth that can’t be broken, cut or penetrated in some way. You can’t blame the lock when some b*****d steals your property.
The included bracket won’t last on regular use with the hefty large D-Lock. Should last longer with the medium lock.
I have a 2.5m long Oxford motorcycle chain and disc lock which wraps around a pillar and all the way around my bike. These D-Locks are for added security (see photo). This combination has already deterred 3 attempts!
Squirt some chain lube into the keyhole to prevent the lock seizing. Haven’t had any issues and highly recommend others do the same. This is part of normal lock maintenance.
These locks are amazing value for money and punches well above its weight. You’d have to spend 3-4x more to get something significantly better.

Seem OK
Bought 2 of these (last 2 in stock). One arrived with intact packaging, complete; the other arrived with damaged retail box and missing frame mount. Amazon promptly refunded the the returned item, and found same from alternate supplier that was actually slightly cheaper.
Shackle is fairly sturdy. They function OK, although actually too large to mount on my wife’s bike.

Nice lock but too big for bike
The lock is very big, bought for a Carrera mountain bike but would not fit the frame as was way too big, also the mountain bracket was too small for the frame so unless you have a skinny mountain bike with a huge frame avoid.

Good value sold secure locks
Sold secure gold locks so very good quality bit of kit. Bought two for my motorbike. Does the job. I had to return one because the lock mechanism was very stiff and wasn’t sturdy. Also had a lot of movement. Had it replaced and not had any further issues.
key very stiff
its a helluva tough lock, the mount looks a bit flimsy but wont fit on my frame anyway. My beef is that I cant get the key to turn without loads of fiddling, Ive ordered some graphite, (dont put oil in locks) so we shall see.
Cheap and Secure
Bought it after my d lock oxford silver (50) was cut in less than 10 seconds by a portable electric saw. Cheap but pretty strong. Also very easy to fix on the bike, just need to be positioned perpendicularly considering the frame otherwise will come off the bike.

I’ve been looking at locks for a while and had decided on getting a lock of this type and wanted to get a Gold Secure rating as well. This one stood out as having some good reviews and was quite low comparatively.
Initial impressions are good – it’s quite a sold and weighty lock and will probably withstand anything but power tools to cut through it. It does only come with two keys therefore be careful to keep the space somewhere safe.
The downside to this is the mounting bracket. This really limits where it can be mounted, and in fact on my bike completely excludes it being fitted anywhere but the front forks, which is not safe. As you can see from my pictures, the tube needs to be just the right size or it will not fit. The bracket also feels like it would break if subjected to too much force.
Overall though a great bargain for the price

Good deterre
Bought this for my daughter, who is keeping her bike at uni in a shared (and lockable) shed that is frequently targeted by thieves. There is security on site, and plenty of people coming and going, so what you need is a lock that will take several minutes *with power tools* to break into.
This does the job. It’s solid, tough, and one glance would deter anybody from trying to cut it with bolt cutters.
Also has a handy plastic cover for the lock mechanism, to protect it from rain.
This might not be the absolute top Sold Secure lock you can buy, but it’s good value for money and ideal for use with an older or cheaper bike.

I was amazed how sturdy and heavy this is. I Attached it to rear fork and wheel of bike, with a cable attaching both wheels to bicycle rack. Mile bike every, very heavy. First time I have locked it up whilst visiting busy Health Centre.

Great value for an approved D-lock. Yes, you can pay for for a Kryptonite etc, but this this will do the job (for me, anyway), in conjunction with other security measures on my eBike (chains / wire-loops / disk-locks / alarm ;-). Recommended.

The thief has to be a pro equipped with something more than a battery operated cutter and plenty of time in his pocket to unlock this in my opinion. However every lock can be unlocked so no need to spend a fortune. Does the job.

I used it for 5 months and now I cannot unlock it. The lock got jammed, out of nowhere, I tried both keys and nothing. Was late for work this morning as I tried for 20 minutes. NOTHING! What do I do now? Where is this gold secure standard when you need it to cover cases like this?
The Lock feels well made and sturdy
I bought this as I needed to leave my bike in a public place a couple times a week.
The construction feels really good, it has a good weight to it. The lock mount to the bike is plastic, and if anything a tiny bit flimsy for my liking. Don’t get me wrong, it does the job of securing the lock while you are riding, but had it been made of metal I would have a lot more piece of mind in that component.

There’s not much to say about a security bolt, except that it does the job well!
Sturdy enough. The lock sticks a bit, probably due to the damp weather we’ve had. I use it everday in a relatively secure work car park so it hasn’t been tested against a determined thief as yet. I reckon it’d be a reasonable obstacle but the lock probably aint that sophisticated it couldn’t be broken with the right tool. But this lock cost 25% of the cost of my bike so seems unreasonable to invest more.

Good product works great for what we brought it for which is to lock are bikes up in the garage
I have a couple of Oxford Magnum shackle locks, these are 50 each – this lock is mechanically identical, I can swap the shackles over between the two and it fits perfectly. The shackle is indeed hardened (I tested it with an angle grinder).
So I wonder if this is a 50 lock for under 20? It certainly looks like it.
Any complaints about the key mechanism could presumably be tackled with the application of a little oil.
Sturdy and heavy-duty long U-lock.
Sturdy and heavy-duty U-lock that works as advertised. Regarding the key, works fine; just keep in mind the keylocks aren’t the same size that the ones we use in our home door, so use it always in a more gentle way. I have been using this u-lock for more than two months without any issue, keeping in mind that my bike sleeps outdoors. Rubber finish to avoid scratches is a plus. For the price is a steal!
I bought this for a friend and it is only used when the bike is being left and n town or for a long time as it is heavy! They use a lighter weight combination most of the time but this is significantly more secure for higher risk areas. You have to remember the keys too, which of course you don’t need with the combination one. A good product and well priced, loss of star is only due to the weigh
For the price I am amazed at the quality !! It’s heavy which will deter 90% of the bike stealing filth ! I am sure most opportunists will avoid this lock and go for something locked up with a cheap cable lock so do yourself a BIG favour and buy this (or something similar and save your bike)
Not a fan of the frame mount – the lock is so robust (heavy) I don’t think the mount is up to the job – just pop it into your rucksack (or leave it locked to your daily anchor point – NOBODY is going to steal this beast !!) Again – bulletproof and I can’t believe the price !!
Additionally (11/9/18) looks like someone has had a go at this lock a plenty of damage to the plastic coating / hasp and the shackle BUT 100000% – it stood up to some light fingered tea leaf :-(( I was in Sainsbury’s for 15 mins (there must have been hundreds of people walking past the bike so they weren’t opportunists – no damage to the bike – just the lock. So I keep banging on about price and how secure it is but I can’t recommend this lock enough (unless you go to ABUS >100 etc where thieves use battery powered angle grinders and NO lock can stand this attack even with witnesses …. Please please buy this lock and be careful where you leave it – and you won’t be walking home, you know it makes sense !

A very strong looking D lock and good value for money. Somewhat heavy but not unexpected for a lock classified as Gold standard. For locking and unlocking the process is completely manual.
