First of all, this harness was a good strong type. Unfortunately it was too small for my Choc Lab. I did measure around her chest as I thought she would have been a medium size but she fell in with the large size, which I ordered. So if you do buy I can recommend the product but the sizes are not very accurate. I returned mine and Amazon refunded immediately.

My dog is a deep chested, rather heavy lab. Her measurements came inside, just, of the LARGE size. With the straps released to their limits, it fits her comfortably and she can lie down wearing it. The two clips are strong and will pinch fingers, so be aware!

I bought this mainly for use in the car tbh, as wanted to start putting my dog on the back seat using a seat belt. I’m so glad that I got this crash tested one as it’s very sturdy & has lots of over stitching. It has a nice big loop on top to thread the seat belt through, with a sturdy D ring attached for her lead. It’s also got another D ring @ the front on the chest piece, for added control I suppose. My dog is only small (cockapoo) so she tends to trip up when I use the front D ring, but bigger dogs wouldn’t. It’s very well made & has padding in all the right places. No complaints from either of us so far & in fact I use it on her all the time now… & leave it on when she’s bombing around as it doesn’t restrict her @ all. I love the loop as it doubles as a handy “handle” to hold her with if I need to hold her back while someone passes on a bike or a tractor down the lane & also to lift her on to the back seat cover when she’s covered in mud . Reflective too. Absolutely ticks all boxes for me.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Users…… as I wanted a properly tested seatbelt-compatible harness to use with a dog carseat. Most just clip onto a piece of click in seatbelt which affords no safety for the dog. Even a relatively minor accident would leave the dog being thrown around at the end of the belt. This one securely holds the dog in place with a softly padded chest guard, the security of the human seatbelt and perfect for taking the dog for a walk. So far the only harness I’ve found on this level.

I am using this harness for my Cockapoo who is 10 months old. This feels sturdy and is easy to attach to the seat belt. With everything being new to her I was concerned that she would wriggle out. However, I needn’t have worried as it held her safely and she didn’t give any indication that this was uncomfortable for her. The extra padding at the front helps with the fit and feeling comfortable to wear. I did measure her before using the harness as the right fit is vital.
A good feature is that this is a dual harness. At the moment I am using these for short car drives to get her used to the car and it’s great that she can jump out and go for a walk straight away. It has reflective material at the front.
I like that the manufacturer has crash tested this harness which gives piece of mind. This is good value for money.

At the time of this review this carsafe harness is 25.69. Im very impressed with the quality of this harness, its very well made and it seems to be sturdy and durable. I have a very strong cocker spaniel so have to be very picky when selecting harnesses as they need to be strong enough but this is perfect. It is suitable for dogs upto 32kg so id say thats about the size of a big staffie or average boxer. It feels very safe when used in the car and i have full trust in this keeping my pooch safe.
Quality overall is very good and id highly recommend.

he price may seem high to regualr high street harnesses/ car harness butyour precious dog is worth it, they deserve the best you can afford and this harness is worth investing in.
The moment you touch this harness you can see and feel the good quality material and workmanship that has gone into these harnesses and comfort has not been spared either.
Do check the weight and measurements carefully as you want to make sure you are giving you dog the best chance of safety when travelling in a car.
i cannot recomend a harness enough it also doubles up as a great strong harness as well so no need to chop and change or worry about changing cars all you need is the 1 harness to keep your dog happy and safe

After the initial shock of wearing a harness, my Working Cocker loves his new position on the front seat of my car. This is well-made, with high visibility reflective flashes. It fits comfortably, and stops my poor dog from banging his nose on the dashboard every time I break heavily. He only wears it in the car, and it’s good that it keeps him one position, instead of up and down in the footwell or getting in the way of the gear stick and handbrake. It’s extremely robust and made to the same standard and webbing as seat belts. Useful online video reached via QR code. British made by Company of Animals, established in 1979.

I ordered the medium of this and I was lucky that it just went over the head of my French bulldog. Its a different design of harness than he usually wears with the main body of it at the bottom rather than at the top. He will take a while to get used to it creature of habit that he is. But it will get a lot of use next week when he is going in the car for his holidays and has a long journey ahead of him. It is very very well built and I can see that he will be very secure in the car when he is wearing it.

This dog harness seems well made and has strong stitching. It is reasonably easy to fit to your dog (depending on how wriggly or resistant they are). The buckles seems really strong too.

This can be used as a walking harness, as well as a car safety harness and the design, where it goes under the dog chests, should stop most escape artists.

To my mind it is essential to harness your dog in a car as in the event of an accident they could do a lot of damage to themselves or you and you want to mitigate this as much as possible. This harness should help with that.

This harness is easy to get onto our pup. The clips are sturdy and the whole product looks well made and built to last.

We realised we had ordered the incorrect size as soon as we had requested this, but without a doubt our large breed pup Labrador will grow into this before long.

This is an excellent dog harness that has been tested for dogs up to 32kg or 70lb in weight. It is essential to check with the Car Safe sizing guide to see their measurements for a XS, S, M. or Large dog, there is no XL as the weight restriction is only up to 32kg/70lbs. The chest fitting is precise, although it is adjustable there is no slack, so this measurement is very important to ensure your dog in comfortable. Having now tried it out with the medium harness I would recommend that if your dog is borderline on the measurement then to get the next size up.
Our elderly dog found it very comfortable and I feel so much better now using this harness in the car making us all safe and secure. The manufacture is excellent; the side clips are strong and close with a resounding click, the workmanship on the padding is very good and having the high visibility reflective fabric is a wonderful bonus for our nightly walks.
At the current price of 26.33 it is value for money as our dog is comfortable and secure and we are more relaxed as we know that should an accident happen we will all be safe. I had very fast delivery and it was appropriately packed.

This dog car harness seems strong and durable and it works well in securing my Border Terrier in the back of my car. At the current price of around 25 I think it’s good value, as one can’t put too much of a price on the safety of your dog.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a seriously heavy-duty – and heavy – harness designed primarily for safely securing the dog in transit, as well as functioning as a walking harness. The stitching, materials and general durability are second to none, and there’s a real peace of mind straight away that this will be a reliable choice.

I’ve used the Halti no-pull harness from the same brand (Company of Animals) and found it to be far too minimal and basic. Despite having the correct size for my Springer the chest panel was constantly slipping to the side and over the course a week’s use the dog had red marks in various places where the material was rubbing her skin. I intended to use it as a training aid and was fully aware that it wasn’t a silver bullet for pulling, but it was hugely disappointing and quickly unusable. I didn’t know until the CarSafe arrived that it was from the same brand, but immediately noticed the similarities – particularly the way that the harness fits around the dog’s body and the small secondary lead attachment on the chest. Crucially, in a clear improvement on the Halti, the CarSafe is generously padded and there’s clearly been more of a focus on the dog’s comfort. It really feels like the CarSafe is what the Halti should’ve been in the first place for me.

In the car it’s hard to quantify what this harness brings, but the testing it has been through is good to know, and it certainly looks the business in terms of solidity and security.

I’ve really been able to test this as a walking harness, and here it has totally surpassed my expectations. It easily outperforms my current go-to Julius K9 on a few key areas. It feels much sturdier for a start – I’ve been through a couple of Julius’ after the dog sidled against a wall and quickly wore through the seat-belt like front strap material, but there’s just no danger of that with the CarSafe due to the sheer thickness and layering of the materials. Importantly the areas that ‘support’ the dog, or more accurately take the energy when pulling, are far more comfortable with padding, and the weight is distributed imho far more evenly under the dog’s chest and ribs, rather than a small area at the very front of the chest. Over the days I’ve been using this on daily walks it hasn’t remotely looked like it would cause the same rubbing problems as the Halti. It’s just very well designed and built.

In terms of downsides there’s not much, but I have noticed a few slight issues. Firstly the front straps aren’t adjustable at all and the middle straps have minimal adjustment – which means you really need to get the sizing spot on for a totally secure fit. Secondly the D-ring on the back to attach the lead when walking isn’t fixed into position on the strap, and as a result twists about quite a lot and doesn’t stay in place. Not a major issue but perhaps one that could’ve been easily solved by having it stitched in place or using an O-ring instead. Last of all, that weight that comes from the sturdy build and protection features makes this a seriously hefty load for the dog on a daily basis. It’s way, way heavier than any of the harnesses I’ve used with my Springer in the past and let’s say she knows about it when it’s on. She hasn’t been off-lead running with it yet, but I’d be surprised if she managed bullet speeds for any length of time wearing this.

Overall, while this is pitched as a travel-friendly safety product I’m finding it really excels as a daily walking harness, and imagine it will fit the bill for a lot of dog owners on that basis.

    4.5 stars.

This really is a quality harness. The material along with the stitching and the clips are top quality. It is comfortable for our boy to wear even after he’s been for a dip in the water and it’s dried fine not causing him any discomfort. They really have gone the extra mile to ensure this harness is maximum safety. Once out of the car you can keep the Sun and there is a D ring that you can clip your lead onto. At over 25 this maybe isn’t the cheapest but you are getting quality here and it is definitely worth paying. Recommended.

A strong and robust dog harness for use in vehicles.
This is similar to the harnesses that are used in place of a lead, it is worn in exactly the same way as is put on your dog in the same manner.
This is very robust, made from strong materials with everything double strength and secure.
You do need to have a dog restrained or risk a large fine , the law is-
Rule 57 of the Highway Code states “When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly.”

    Road essential

It is always concerning when you hear of animals being injured in car accidents when sometimes the correct level of testing hasn’t been done on products that purport to be designed for the purpose. It is reassuring to read about all of the testing that has been done on this product.
The car harness feels very weighty and solid, totally different to the harness that we have previously used. The breast plate is thick and very well padded. I would imagine that it would give a lot of protection in that area.
The straps are made from seat belt material and are therefore quite soft to the touch, though obviously tough. The buckles are chunky and solid. There is a lot of stitching in areas that I assume are stress points, making the harness feel reassuringly well made. The harness is blue and black with some stitching done in a matching blue. The neck area is lined with a soft material for comfort.
The harness has a large D loop on the top and another smaller D loop on the breast plate so a lead can be attached for dog walks. The harness has a large loop on the top which is where the seatbelt should be threaded before being fastened (always on the back seat).
I chose a medium for our 20kg dog which was just big enough on the loosest setting. Check the measurements carefully as not all mediums are created equal! Although you can adjust the harness around the dog’s chest, the neck part is not adjustable. It is a shame that the harness isn’t more adjustable but perhaps this is to do with the safety element.
The dog was not overly impressed initially as I think she felt a little more trussed up than in her previous harness. She seemed to get used to it in time. It is easy to put on – over the head and then do up the two buckles. I will keep using this in the car as her safety is equally important but think she is too aware of it on to use for walks.

Reassuringly solid and well tested harness

This is a great harness very strong the best one I have had so far I would say and the price reflects the quality 26.66 at time of this review. I received a size M medium and it fits my dog perfectly although my dog is not happy with it because he is use to his other one but dogs get use to things quickly. This is a very stylish one and we really like the colour blue. We would definitely recommend this one to any dog owner. Hope this helps you decide.

    It’s a mega harness!!
I was so surprised at the weight of it when I opened the box. Very study and well made harness.
I feel confident that if we were in a crash my dog would be secure and maybe even chest protected a bit from anything that might stab through.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThe crash tested dog harness from Company of Animals couldn’t have appeared on our radar at a better time.

We recently stumbled across an alarming article that basically rubbishes all dog car harnesses and most travel crates. It’s reassuring to know that Company of Animals have crash-tested their harness.

We have a 4-year-old spaniel/boxer cross called Daisy who travels everywhere with us in the car, using a harness attached with a dog seat belt on the rear seat. We regularly travel cross-channel, distances so long that it wouldn’t be comfortable to confine her to a crate.

Daisy is 18kg so the M size was the right harness for her, her chest size at 68cm is in the right range too. We were a bit worried about the neck size as for collars she is 34cm and the M harness is way bigger than that. However, the harness does not fit in the same place as the collar, and it does fit just right.

She doesn’t like harnesses, or anything that slips on over her head, but we feel that it’s worth a moment or two of her non-cooperation to get this safety harness on.

The Company of Animals crash tested harness is very lightweight with a nicely padded but breathable chest plate. We presume that the stitched, rather than buckled, neck hole is part of the safety design.

All the straps are more like actual seat belt fabric. They’re fine woven, soft and flat, rather than the webbing that harness straps are normally made of. The straps around the chest are adjustable so you can get just the right fit.

The harness has a front D-ring and a sliding metal ring inside the seat belt loop on the back of the harness, so that you can use the same harness for walks as well as in the car.

Check that your dog’s shoulders and elbows are not impeded by the harness if using it to exercise. This is not so important if just using it for the car, where they’re not moving around.

The fabric of the chest plate is reflective which is nice if walking at night or exercising at a Motorway/autoroute rest stop.

It’s not obvious from the text and images on Amazon, but we checked with Company of Animals who confirmed that with this harness there’s no need for a pet seat belt.

They clarified, once your dog is in the harness and sitting in the car you thread ALL of the car’s seat belt (both straps) through the loop on the back of the harness and then buckle it into your car’s seat belt clip as per usual. ALWAYS have your pet on the BACK SEAT, never the front, which may be illegal in some countries.

There’s a very short video on the Company of Animals web site which shows this.

The harness is 26.99 at time of review which we think is an fair price for a harness that has had this level of safety testing.

This is a really fabulous harness – its so well made! Its quite heavy and seems really well made. I got a medium size for my spaniel based on weight but it looks a little big so I think should have paid more attention to the measurement guide too.

It goes over the head and this part doesn’t adjust at all. It fastens with two clips- one each side, very large clips and easy to use. The part that goes round the body is adjustable. The part that covers the chest is brilliant – very strong and sturdy. My springer has previously run into a stick at speed and punctured himself through the chest so I always put him in a harness these days as I feel it offers better protection against accidents. I feel confident he is well protected with this.

The straps of this harness are made from seatbelts! It looks pretty indestructible. Its been in the sea, the river, muddy and sandy and so far still looks great. It washes and dries well. Definitely a premium product but remember to check the measurements- not just the weight before choosing your size!

I was given this product to try with no promise of a favourable review.

Over the past couple of years I’ve tried a number of harnesses with our 2 year old Cockapoo. This really is one of the best ones that he’s had the pleasure of using. The medium size works well for our 13-14kg pup.

Build quality is exceptional. The harness has a genuinely premium feel with a solid base. The material is breathable and wraps around his torso. The straps are made from nylon seat belt material and feel reassuring and strong. Great as we have a puller! There are 2 strong buckles on the back as well. Securing the harness around though the neck and clipping on is quick and easy. There is a main ring on the back to attach your lead, and another on the front as well if you prefer to use a dual halti-style lead system for extra control. The handle on the back also helps for ‘quick control’ if required.

I’ve washed the harness a few times now in the watching machine (in a washing net bag for protection) and the size, colour and form have remained intact. It also dries quickly which is ideal. Overall, a high quality harness that is highly recommended. 5/5
