DMT D6CX 6-inch Dia-Sharp Double-Sided Coarse/Extra-Coarse Bench Stone – Grey
The DMT Difference
Since 1976, DMT has been in business to do just one thing: make the world’s best diamond sharpeners. Product innovations such as our signature polka-dot interrupted surface, and others with our continuous surface of high-performance diamond, are praised worldwide for their superior quality.
From pocket-sized whetstones to heavy-duty bench stones, the difference arrives time and again through our undivided pursuit of sharpening excellence.
For DMT products, no oil or pressure must be used to sharpen the tool or knife.
Quality must be manufactured, not fabricated
Diamond Coverage differs widely from one manufacturer to the next. For long-lasting performance, DMT makes certain that each sharpening surface carries the most diamonds per square inch in the industry.
Diamond Uniformity is also key to sharpener performance. DMT uses a proprietary process that ensures near-perfect consistency in grit size. The result is a micronised monocrystalline diamond that covers evenly across the sharpening surface to prove effective with every use, year after year.
Beware of imitators!
Surface Flatness can mean the difference between a well-honed tool and one that is barely serviceable. Flat surfaces maintain consistent, even contact with the edge to produce a bevel that carries the same degree of sharpness from end to end. DMT sharpeners are engineered to be the flattest on the market, and built to outlast other products, which are variable in surface, and often warped, hollowed or grooved.
DMT Benefits
- The most diamonds per square inch in the industry
- Near-perfect consistency in grit size
- The DMT sharpener produces a clean, razor-sharp edge
- Best Surface Flatness

Perfecta
Buen rendimiento y sirve perfectamente para aplanar otras piedras. Recomendado.
Great product. I’ve just received it an hour ago, and sharpened on pocket knife (440C), and have no complaints. But, again, I’ve only used it once. I’m familiar with the product, but in the spirit of full disclosure, I do want to point out that there is a small strip, end-to-end along the right side, where there is about a one millimeter thick area with little to no diamonds.
THIS IS NOT A NEGATIVE. IT IS NORMAL. YOU WILL, ALMOST CERTAINLY, NEVER FIND A DIAMOND BENCHSTONE WITH ZERO BALD SPOTS ALONG THE EDGE.
You have to remember that the diamonds don’t just grow themselves on a metal plate. They are attached. And, regardless of how they are attached, there are going to be diamonds that extend out beyond the edge of the metal plate. Now, this is a microscopic overhang. But, in the process of attaching the diamonds, then packaging the p,ate, shipping it, unloading it, reshaping it to the consumer, ANY diamonds not 100% flush, ANY hanging microscopically over the edge, are going to break off, and take a few of the diamonds next to them off the ledge as well.
THIS IS PHYSICS. THE REAL WORLD. NOT A POOLY CRAFTED ITEM!
And, this product has the LEAST a mount of bald spot I’ve ever seen in any of the previous brands I’ve ever purchased. I’m talking about .75 to 1 millimeter, AT MOST. If your success or, God forbid — life, depends on the base of your knife having a 1 millimeter spot, at the base of the blade, that isn’t razor sharp…. well, brother/sister, you are already screwed! LOL..
It’s as flat and level as is humanly possible. The diamond layer is consistent, and wears consistently, so you don’t have parts that are rough, and other parts smooth. It’s onky 1/4 of an inch thick, so if you’re like me and carry the darn thing with you, it’s weight is barely noticeable. And, if your life does depend on the bottom 1 millimeter of your knife being shaving-sharp, the diamond plate is heavy enough to whack someone, or someTHING, over the head and give you time to beat feet while your attacker is stunned!
LOL.. It really is a good product. It is one of only two brands that I trust. Just keep in mind that this is a human engineered item. There will ALWAYS be minor imperfections on anything made by man/woman. The product rocks. I will keep giving them my money. And, honestly, that should really tell you everything, right there.
Firstly, I've been using DMT products for a very long time. I originally bought their products at Langevin & Forest when started cabinetmaking. Since then I've been using the cards and the mini-hone kit for a significant number of small tool sharpening, and the dual-sided fine/x-fine for a ridiculous number of sharpenings, and it still works. I've sharpened dozens of tungsten-carbide cutting tools on it and saved one of my employers hundreds of dollars, maybe more than hundreds, with it. DMT has never let me down and has done so much for my hobbies, and I've recommended it to around a dozen buddies. Normally I remove lots of material with some of the many industrial rolls of sanding-belt sandpapers that had been thrown away at one of my works. This works very well for most all of my tools. However I was searching for a more portable solution to help me sharpen my friends' knives without toting a handful of concealed blades through the metros and buses to get home, and then do it again. I tried the Chef's Choice 130. It works very well for just about anything, especially very dull knives, but I can get a better edge on a knife in not much more time with the right equipment, and I can get shape a knife better, and get the criss-crossed tooth / cutting pattern that I find grips while cutting in both directions better and cuts tomato skins better. So I went with this for the very dull knives, and will still tote my fine/-x-fine along with it. I just got this one in the mail today, all giddy for a new toy.. and what I found was a lip on the coarse side. If it was the x-coarse side, meh, the coarse side would remove any damage after. But it is on the coarse side. I have already spent a few minutes grinding that lip down so it cannot do any damage or cause extra time on the fine/x-fine "stone." But for the cost of DMT products, I wasn't expecting a lip. I don't care unduly, but for the cost of DMT products I expect full coverage of a side, and no darn lip! The coarse side has a section the width of the lip in the picture that goes all the way around just that one side, and that section has little to no diamond on it. This feels like a budget cut! I doubt it'll add more than a few minutes work to my entire life due to the small lack of diamonds, but still.

I took a chance on this bench stone. The return was amazing edges on my chisels. I will not be going back to to the brand I used for 10 years.

This seems to be very good. There were a few bumps that stick out but that was expected because I did my research and already knew that it requires you to break it in. It works well but I haven't gotten anything super sharp yet because I need to practice keeping the blade at the right angle. It was slightly different than I expected because it just looks like a small metal slab and I haven't seen one like this before.

I use DMT dia sharp stones (D8 120, 320, 600 and 1200 grit variants) for about 10 years to sharpen a large range of knives (usually having hardness of 57 or over on Rockwell C scale). Still no significant traces of wear on them. So far those metal plates are the best sharpening stones I've found. Well worth the money

I have a set of chisels that I have had for at least 60 years that I sharpened on an oil stone but I never got them as sharp as l have on the Dia Sharp. I do use a guide with it so it is a can't miss project . I just wonder how long it will last.

Wow! I’ve been wasting time with my water stones. This is my first diamond stone. It’s great. I got it to touch up my turning tools between grindings. I keep it in the chest pocket of my apron. I can’t believe how quick it removes material. Buy it!

- it's everything they said - I use it on a weekly basis to bring my knives to perfection with ease. I have bought three different grades - love it - got tired of poor performance on sharpening - now I have sharp knives.

Worth the money
I am a woodworker (Hobby) and I have tried various ways to sharpen my chisels and planes.
I used an oil stone but found it to be not very flat with poor results.
I used waterpapers up to 2000 grit and got good results but the papers didnt last long and it was time consuming and messy.
Then I bought a cheap diamond plate and it worked well for about 2 months and then the diamond coated vinyl coating lifted off the backing stone and became totally useless.
I decided it was time spend a bit more money and buy the DMT diamond Stone.
Its flat and strong and doesnt bend, its cuts fast and clean, and it works well with just water.
I highly recommend i
I used the wet/dry sandpaper method of sharpening my edged tools (chisels, plane iron, etc.) and it did the job but it required a lot of work; (20+ passes with a lot of holding pressure). With this stone it reduced the passes needed down to 5 and with minimal holding pressure. I would also say it allows the user the ability to better hone the skill of sharpening by hand (no guide) because of how efficiently it does its job. Bottom line its an amazing diamond stone at a great price!

Quality – [8/10] (ends have visible marks from when it was cut with a bandsaw)
Feel – [10/10] This stone just feels like a quality product. Also, it is very responsive and feels great when sharpening
Functionality – [10/10] The “fine” side of this stone is rated at 25 micron (~800 grit) which is great because it can remove a good amount of material fairly quickly while providing a very workable edge.
I sharpened my Para 3 in S110V steel (known for being extremely difficult to sharpen) in about 10 minutes. The knife was dull (hardly shaving any hair) and after using the “fine” side and stropping on 5micron and 2.5micron diamond paste, the edge would easily shave. After that i tried out the “extra-fine” side; which worked amazingly. The “extra-fine” side left the knife hair-popping sharp straight off of the stone! (I used a push-pull method to form a burr on both sides then forward strokes alternating sides each stroke to remove the burr). After the stone i brought the knife to my 2.5 and 0.5 micron diamond paste strops and the edge was mind-blowing. It will shave hair without any pressure (just the weight of the knife) and even cut a single piece of hair in half while it is hanging.
In conclusion, this stone is excellent. It works for establishing bevels as well as taking them to shaving sharp. This stone is truly the only stone you’ll ever need.
And if it’ll cut s110v in ~15 minutes… It’ll cut any steel for any knife, axe, chisel, plane, anything.
Thank you for reading, hopefully this was helpful.
I bought both the x coarse / coarse and x fine / fine kits. Best "stones" I've ever used

DMT makes good sharpeners. They're the best I've used. They're solid (wouldn't want liquid ones, I reckon), and they work well for putting an edge on my carving tools. I'd like one that'd let me sharpen the inside bevel on my hook knife, and my bowl-turning hook.

This is a quality product. Compared to other products I've bought this one is by far my favourite. It's big, it's heav, and made with quality metal and I'm sure is going to last a long time.... I will be purchasing a few more to have a variety of grits.

about optimum size and weight ... and it sure cuts steel. For me, putting on some relaxing music and getting to it led to nicely polished and sharp results. I'm delighted.

My wood chisels and knives are literally sharp enough to shave. Works very quickly to touch up wood chisels and smoothing plane blades to "hiss" sharpness with a strop. Much faster and easier than maintaining/dressing a final stone.

This stone has been working very well for me for quite a while now - been sharpening knifes, chisels, plane-blades and more. The stone holds up to it's high expectations.

Works great on a wide variety knives. A very good edge can be achieved rather quickly. Personally, I would like it to be about a half inch wider. Overall, I am very happy with this item.

love it, definitely a good combo to have extra coarse , and then skip the coarse to jump to fine. Sharpening happens just as effectively. Also much better alternative than the Japanese water stones with this coarseness as the coarser Japanese stones get used up very quickly, where as this lasts virtually forever.

Great stone for sharpening wood carving chisels. These DMT stones are reportedly hard enough to last a lifetime and one can stop having to flatten and deal with messy water stones.

Exactly what I expect of it, and it's great.
The quality of this DMT tool is exactly as I expected it, and it’s great. Just as they warned, there were finer points at first and it bit more, but after sharpening a few tungsten carbide machine blades and bits on it, this thing’s working exactly as I expected of it, and that’s precisely what quality delivers. I also always use the diasharps because I love the quality, the weight of it, and I sharpen all sizes and shapes of blades that I can, including very small ones. I will soon add more DMT tools to my collection.
This isn’t my first of such DMT tools either, though the others were purchased in a store. Several years down the line, the credit card sharpeners, and mini-hones have helped me sharpen chef’s knives, delivered a set of extra-sharp ceramic knives as a gift to said chef who was quite pleased, they have helped me sharpen over 2 pairs of tungsten-carbide machine blades around 14 times each (I’ve sinced upgraded to this tool) and a great many woodworking tools. Sadly the tungset-carbide blades have worn down the credit card sharpeners a little bit over time but still they work more-or-less as they should.
Although I have used all of these tools without oil or water, it is my preference to use oils, a thicker oil for the rougher grits such as the extra-coarse, and a finer oil for the finer grits while sharpening. I always clean up with a heavy oil on all grits to clean up after, as it picks the metal out of the grits like a vacuum on a carpet, and one credit card was rendered unusable until I cleaned it 4 times with oil because so much tungsten-carbide dust collected between the grits that it was no longer gritty.
Excellent sharpening stone
Excellent sharpening stone. Because the abrasive is diamond, it can cut vanadium carbides that are present in common “super” steels such as CPM 3V, CPM S30V, and CPM S35VN. Many people say sharpening those steels takes a while, and the edge doesn’t last very long, but that’s because they are sharpening with abrasives that are softer (has a lower Rockwell hardness) than the vanadium carbides, and because of this, the vanadium carbides do not get sharpened, only the steel matrix around it does, so the carbides fall out. The whole purpose of vanadium carbides is that they are very hard, while means that they will hold an edge for a very long time IF SHARPENED. If you want to sharpen a steel that has vanadium carbides, make sure you get a diamond stone!
I also got the plastic base sold by DMT that is compatible with this (and any other 6″ stone) and they work great together!

Very nice quality product like all the dia-sharp stones. It is a perfect size for carrying in my tool bag for touching up chisels or plane blades when I am away from the shop.

Buy this.
Bought this for sharpening chisels. Love it so much I also bought a coarse/extra coarse stone.
All the advantages of a stone with all the advantages of sandpaper on glass. Highly recommend.

Great diamond stone. I use this as a starting point for a very dull knife with the coarse and fine stone. 325 grit on the coarse, 600 for the fine grit. I use it in conjunction with 1000 and 6000 grit whetstones but I start with this and it does a great job of honing. I use it for all purposes, my wife's chef knives, my chisels, and my plane irons.

very good product. used it a few times and reall makes my chisels sharp.

I love this.
I love this… oh how I stressed over spending the money for this. Day after day,, week after week,,,, then finally I bit the bullet. I am glad I did.
I use this a lot. And it has cut my time in half or better in preparing and honing my carving knifes.. two sided is a great. I do not regret spending the money on this because this thing will not wear out.
Previous buyer and present user of different DMT sharpeners. Bought this smaller 6" for folders and smaller knives. Works great with the Duo Base as well. These things are just simply incredible. It makes sharpening easier and enjoyable.

These are awesome. Worth the extra money for this stone. Got this one and the 'fine/extra fine' as well. Using all four surfaces withe the sharpener makes for some pretty sharp blades.

Works better than the small stones with the colored dots. Lasts longer.

Was looking for something that would get my chisels and plane blades razer sharp. This fits the bill nicely. The fine is great for a quick touch up and coupled with the course if more work is needed will get the job done. Glad I bought it.j

Excellent !
I do custom leather work and use a variety of cutting tools including round knives which can be extremely challenging to bring to a keen and near surgical edge. I purchased two double sided DMT stones, an extra coarse/coarse and a fine/extra fine, and I was thoroughly pleased with the results after sharpening my knives. Next will be my punches. Even my Kershaw daily carry pocket knife has an edge sharp enough I can skive a whisper thin curl of leather with it.
They’re a tiny bit bumpy at first as explained on the packaging but that disappeared in no time. By the time I finished sharpening my knives with these for the first time I felt I was getting better with them and went back and touched up the others to an even sharper edge. Even though I am quite used to using sharpening stones I have never felt as certain when making a bevel with them as I do with these.
These DMT stones were worth every penny.
Removes material super fast, after breaking in this diamond stone with a couple beater knives I reprofiled my spyderco paramilitary 2 with this and the fine/extra fine diamond stone and its screaming sharp!

Good diamond stone
Sharpener works well with the knives. It is quite thin, and have not found a good way to hold or secure it without danger of slicing open a palm or finger while sharpening a knife. For a while I used the clear plastic top of the blister-pack as a holder. Seems with a little thought, the packaging folks could design a holder/mount for the steel and not add much more to the cost of the product.
Revising this review. Had withheld one star because of problem noted above with large knives. Needed fine tweezers to extract small cactus spines. Had small tweezers, but of conventional stamped construction. Under 3X glass, had square-cut edge, duller than average butter knife. With this stone, put a righteous edge and point on them.
Excellent product, especially when used in conjunction with the Ultimate Sharpening Jig by Very Super Cool Tools.

Great Sharpening And Flattening Stone
They mention on the package that the stone will feel rough at the start but will smooth out over time. They are right and I was initially concerned because it lost some of its brightness immediately. However it has not effected the performance at all.
It works great as a lapping stone (flattening water stones) and as a sharpener. Diamond lapping stones are very spend so this works just as well at a fraction of the price.
Great stone. Coarse side is great for removing metal. Fine side puts a pretty good polish. This stone is a good buy.

I’ve been sharpening knives of my own for about 20 years now and wanted to give DMT a shot. I’m satisfied with the double-sided “stone” overall. The stock metal that holds the braze seems like it could be more consistently flat. Or the braze of diamonds could be applied unevenly, creating a not so flat surface. Some small areas of the stone are completely unbrazed, just showing bare metal. And even after a few hours of use, there are still tiny little clusters of diamonds that stick up just enough to barely nick the fine edge the extra-fine side can make. Therefore, this product is not for perfectionists.
I will say of all the different types of steel I’ve sharpened with this stone, none of them were too hard to be cleaned up and taken to a fine edge. Razor sharp results can be obtained using the extra-fine side, save the occasional nick here and there. To get “stupid” sharp edges, a few passes on a ceramic or glass rod can make most knives too sharp to hand over to your wife or buddy.
I recommend this stone to the experienced woodworker or ninja chef who wants a keen, but slightly imperfect edge on their tools.
Knives will cut paper and shave hair !! Got it for a gift and he loves it!! I'd buy agai

I picked up this stone because I had some tools made of newer steel that did not respond well to my efforts with natural stones and I didn’t want the problems I see that come with water stones. I used this stone to touch up bench chisels and take the nicks out of a plane iron that came across some gravel inbeded in some reclaimed lumber. it works well and fas
Great stone to add to anyone's collection. The diamonds cut faster and deeper. Making work go faster. Will last a long time.

Needed something to maintain my chef's knives
Was watching a You Tube video about keeping the tools of the trade sharp and asked what grit they were using, theirs was labeled fine and one sided with rubber feet to keep it from sliding. This is twice as good, fine one side and extra fine on the flip side, I just got some dollar store round ‘shelf liner’ disks and does not move about.
As noted by others and also on the package it requires a bit of break-in so before going after my good cutlery I set it on my counter, gave it a spray of water and sharpened a lockback knife I had found in the cupboard when I bought my house 2 years ago, it had been abused and looked like the previous owner had ‘sharpened’ it on a cinder block! It was BAD! Five min later honing it on the fine side it was slicing about half the blade length through a sheet of paper, not bad considering I have really never gotten a good edge on anything using a oilstone – arkansas stone combo. So another min on the fine side and flip to the extra fine side that beat up Shrade “Uncle Henry” was pulling a slice the length of the blade plus some. (It also broke in the block smoothing off any high bits)
Touched up my 10″ chef knife and it is as sharp as it was 2 years ago when I got it.
Takes a bit of practice and a steady hand to maintain the correct angle but this is the best sharpening “Stone” I have ever had!
This is not a stone, but a diamond coated plate of very flat steel. I love this unit, and it puts my water stones to shame, The stone must always be dresses to keep them flat, and the $$ I have invested in them is far beyond what I would have spent had I simply picked up a few of these. Well, I did not know they even existed till a few weeks ago. As soon as I can, I will be purchasing the course and extra course plate... and at that point I will have everything I need simple and sweet!

I had to send two of these back to Amazon because the stones where of poor quality. They where very roughly machined, so the surface of the metal underneath the layer of diamond was not even close to smooth, I did not like the idea of my blade running into nicks and deep gouge marks in the stone. Then the second stone I got was much smoother, but the layer of diamond thinned out to almost nothing on one corner of the stone, sent that back and finally got a good product. Once I received the good stone, free from defects, I will say it is a great stone. DMT diamond stones really are great, I have used other brand diamond stones, and they don’t compare to this one. The DMT stones cut fast, yet leave a nice fine finish for being as aggressive as the are. Use light pressure with these stones, they cut fast and do not require much pressure. These stone do have a break in period, they will feel a bit gritty and rough at first, but mine did break in nicely and feel much smoother when sharpening. Also as they break in they will become slightly less aggressive, but they still cut pretty fast. I bought this stone because it was double sided and seemed like a good value. The fine side can give you a really nice sharp edge without even using the extra-fine side. The extra-fine will further refine the edge, but honestly is not needed to create a razor sharp edge. I already had a DMT course, so I went with this stone to complete the grit range. I would say if you don’t already have a coarse stone, buy the double sided coarse/fine and have one stone that can reprofile and repair an edge using the coarse side, then have the fine side to put on a keen edge.
I purchased this diamond stone when I ordered the Ka-Bar, D2 fighting/utility knife- it was recommended to use a diamond stone for the D-2 steel knives from Ka-Bar- they were correct- when I first tried to use my Arkansas oil stones, the blade just slid over the surface w/ no sharpening action- the D-2 steel requires a very hard aggregate to produce any sharpening effect- the DMT fine side did a very through job in producing the needed cutting action for this very hard steel- the extra-fine side does a wonderful job, polishing the edge to produce a razor edge-I have since used the stone on all my cutting tools, as a 30+ year woodworker, my chisels, router bits, plane irons and marking knife all have seen the face of this top quality stone - my hunting knives as well as my mothers kitchen knives, all get a "fast" glance across this stone-at first the price was a concern, but the time saved is well worth the price- give any of the DMT products a shot (I have) & all perform very well- thanks Amazon for the good quality reviews that help me find just what I need

The price of this two-sided sharpening stone is a bit high, although one should be aware that it has two usable sides unlike other models with just one. I'm happy so far and assume that it will last at least a few decades like my older DMT stone has.

I was completely new to sharpening blades with stones. After receiving DMT Dia-Sharp and watching a few tutorials on youtube, I was able to get my knives razor sharp! I practiced on a cheap knife first and after only 6 draws on each side I could shave with it. I highly recommend this stone to everyone. Now all of my friends are asking me to sharpen their blades. Couldn't be more happy with this purchase! Just make sure to keep a consistent angle ~20 degrees, and with moderate pressure this thing will let you cut through just about anything like butter.

Great product!
I bought one of these a couple of years ago.
This fall I bought two more, an extra one for myself and one for my brother.
This is by far the best sharpening stone I have ever owned.
And I’m very happy with the supplier. Delivery was prompt and the price very reasonable.

This product performed the way it was designed. It didn’t take long
to put a nice edge on my chisels.
These diamond stones are great for both sharpening cutlery and for flattening waterstones. DMT does a good job with their tolerances in making sure their stones are very flat. I also love that these DMT stones STAY FLAT! Highly recommended.
DMT stones are great sharpening stones! They are great for both sharpening your cutlery and for flattening waterstones. I personally use mine for both and they work great! DMT guarantees that their stones are flat, and the best part is that they STAY FLAT. Highly recommended.

First time user of Diamond over stones. Sharpened quicker and flatter using the Extra Coarse/Coarse Fine and a General Tools 809 Chisel/Plane Blade Sharpener method.Didnt need to go to Extra fine as this was way sharper already than what Id ever had it. The only question remaining is how long the Diamonds will last.

What can you say – its 2″ x 6″ coarse one side and fine on the other. Its core is a flattened steel plate nickel plated with the diamond crystals bonded to each side. Because it’s steel and not plastic, as long as you hold the tool you’re sharpening consistently you will get a straight edge.
It’s nice having both the rough and fine grit on the same sharpener. And the only practical way to sharpen modern stainless high-hardness knife steel is with diamond.
My only complaint is that the DMT sharpeners like this used to come in a nice leather holder (which I used for final stropping by hand). This comes in standard plastic shell packaging.
Regarding the other review – This is 2″ by 6″ as clearly stated – Wishing it were bigger isn’t a problem with the sharpener – It’s a buyer problem. But it is big enough that if you were to sharpen a sword, for example – You hold the sword still and move the sharpener – Not vice versa.
