I have been using it now for a few weeks mainly for neck, shoulders and back pain. The strength of the rotating massage balls is phenomenal and I would say better than a masseuse because you can direct it to the exact area you need it, and it doesn’t get tired! The mimicking action of the massage is very good – on both direction settings. I like the infrared setting – the vibration is there if you want it too, and it is good to have the heat sensation which keeps the area warm.
Now for the critical part:
I’ve read the instructions (twice) and there are a couple of concerns I have – mainly around safety and precautions, and some improvements to the instructions booklet.
Firstly there are no guidelines to say how long to use the massager in any one go – it cuts off after 15 mins but I (like many others on here) turn it back on and keep going – are there any guidelines on how long to use it for? I couldn’t see this. The next day I was really in quite a bit of pain – did I overdo it or was that my muscles having been worked on? Just a bit of guidance on recommended times would be helpful.
The instructions suggest areas of the body you can use the massager on (neck & shoulders, back, belly, legs, feet and arms). However, when I used it on my neck where I get most pain, I moved it to my upper neck and base of my head – but the strength of it felt almost like it could damage the base of my skull – i.e you need to be careful where you put the massager because it is so powerful and the rotating mechanism will not stop.
Related to this, it says it can be used by children age 8 and over with supervision, but I think that a child with smaller arms and legs could get injured – the mechanism is so powerful and the sweeping action of the massage balls coming together means that a smaller arm could be squashed within the rotating mechanism. I used it on my (adult) arm and the sensation of it being almost crushed between the balls was evident and I quickly stopped – so I would use it in this area with caution. There’s nothing in the instructions about this.
So overall I would still say a great buy and I would highly recommend – it just needs a few more comprehensive instructions and a few additional warnings of the risks identified.

Looking around there are lots of cheaper alternatives to this kind of product. This one is the best. The motors are strong, yet quiet. The cheaper ones can give out as soon as you add pressure. A really good quality massager.

This is a big help! You can use it to target the aches and pains easier.
Limit your self to 30mins until you get used to it because the next day it can hurt!

This was my first time using a self-massaging device. I suffer with chronic pain and usually have fortnightly massage to help with it. During lock down this wasn’t possible so I thought I would look at other options. In my opinion this doesn’t replace regular good quality massage, but it does help to reduce tension, knots and pain alongside it. I love that I can get the massage I need at any time I need it. Using it on my abdomen has really helped IBS issues too.
It has its limitations – you can only use on certain parts of the body: neck/shoulders, belly, thighs and lower back. It can be painful if you put it too near bones in your shoulder blades for example.
I cannot compare this to the cheaper imitations (I didn’t want to mess around with cheap knock offs having read reviews) but I think it is good quality and has saved me from a lot of pain during this unexpected period without seeing my massage Therapist.
I have suffered from muscular back pain for many years and tried several different massage products. None of these products really helped as they were all quite difficult to position correctly. And even when positioned correctly the massage itself was generally not particularly deep.
This product does not have either of these issues. The straps allow the massage heads to be positioned exactly where I need them, with very little effort. This is important as holding other massage machines in a certain position for long periods of time has lead to other muscles becoming fatigued!
Also, the massage heads provide a very deep massage which is great. The result is a proper deep tissue massage rather than a light massage which provides only temporary pain relief.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who suffers from tight knotted muscles — it’s a game changer!
Having neck pain when I have more stress at work I so far applied a heat blanket and tried to rest. When that broke, two weeks ago, I ordered this neck massager and was a little anxious if it is not too expensive compared to the many other offers on Amazon. In the end I reminded myself how long I used the heat blanket and have it a shot, and what good decision this was! I have been using this now for two week on and off and it is so much better than what I had before and am now trying it on my lower back too. This little machine is well built and does the job of listening tight muscles really well. Push it hard enough and you feel you did some exercise the day before. Can fully recommend anyone to by this

I suppose, sometimes I want to change a function or two and perhaps a separate control would be useful, However, this would probably generate extra cost, wires and reduce the reliability…
…Instead, I got to know where the relative buttons are and in any case, I can just set to other functions for another session, so no design change required for me!
You can use it in the car — Imagine sitting there on your break from your desk and being able to relax away from work while receiving a relaxing, tension relieving massage?
Or even when on a long journey, pull in to a lay-by or services and treat yourself — this I have yet to do but looking forward to that!

***Effectiveness***
I have among other sport muscle challenges, a Rotator Cuff Injury, which affects other parts of the arm, shoulder and neck area and this massager certainly manages to reduce that tension without impacting the injury.
Using this predominantly every evening, certainly allows me to target those common areas of tension to relax, and in some cases, release the knotting that causes discomfort and limited movement.
Used correctly and without the temptation of OVER USE, I have managed to make a big difference to key areas that would normally, have to wait for physio.
It has increased my movement in key areas, especially the shoulder and neck areas.
Remember though, this DONNERBERG Massager can be used Purely for Relaxation and what a great excuse to switch off and chill out.

Great home massage product, easy to use, can be used on different areas of the body.
This back, neck and shoulder massager immediately resolved my neck pain. I also found it to be useful to relieve muscle tension in my calves and thighs. This is a great massager. You can apply as much or as little pressure as you want. You can audibly hear my back crunch when I direct it at my scapulas. Definitely worth the money.

I have tried other brands of neck massagers, but they were awkward to use and required you to lie down in order to keep the device on your neck or back. This one, however, allows you to sit or even stand and also has the advantage of being able to apply exactly the right amount of pressure that you need. The controls are simple to use, the build quality is high and the washable covers are an added benefit. Thoroughly recommended.

Had this product for Christmas, used it over the last four weeks, the product is excellent, easy to use, and very good for pain relief.
My husband is very particular about pressure and often finds no one can apply enough pressure. This massager was perfect for him because it is very strong. That shouldn’t put anyone off using it for more relaxing massages because the strength is determined by the user. The pressure can be as light or as strong as you like. He main concern is his traps which this is great for but it can be used for almost any body part. Calves, hamstrings, lower back, upper back, abdomen etc etc. Yes it’s more expensive but I tried a slightly cheaper one in a shopping mall which made a ‘whirring’ sound and struggled with any pressure. So don’t waste your money. This one is quite simply a no regrets purchase! The product guarantee says it all.

My flatmate had one and I tried it a couple of times after driving for long hours during work. Really worked on sore neck and shoulder muscles. Relaxing on the back too. So I bought one for myself. It’s very good for sore muscles etc, however it will not cure back pain if you have medical issues, see a physio or medical professional for that!

Bought for my mum who suffers from osteoarthritis of the neck and shoulders, she finds it very good helping to alleviate the pains and it is also very relaxing and easy to use.
Compared to others it is expensive. Worth paying though. The massage is excellent. You can control the intensity very simply. It easy to use.
I really love this massager – it gets right into all my knots. My back’s not cured by using it – I have fairely intractible disc problems, but just getting some movement back into my rigid muscles is bliss. I find it very relaxing too which all helps with my chronic pain. It is quite a strong massage, and anyone who is extremely sensitive might find it a bit much (say if you have allodynia). My Mum who’s 85 wasn’t keen – but shes more bony than me and I think she just didn’t get it in the right place on the shoulder muscles. It really does feel like a proper massage, and the equipent is very robust and well made. You can easily move the machine right from the back of your head throught your neck down to the whole of your spine, in a seated position. (I was worried it would only fit my neck area) I did a lot of research before buying and I’m glad I did or I might have bought one of the cheaper versions and I think it might have put me off trying this one.
I bought this for myself for my birthday. Best gift ever! It has good pressure, is quiet, materials are high quality and it feels like its been well made. I had some girlfriends round for a spa & bubbles evening (that’s about the level of partying I go for these days) and they all loved it. I had debated buying a cheaper version but glad i splashed out. This is a little bit of luxury that I enjoy most evenings, while reading or watching the tv.
I was out with friends the other week and it somehow came up in conversation. One of my friends told me she had a machine at home that cost her nearly 200 that gave a good massage, and she said she would let me try it. I was sceptical, but willing to try anything. My husband was also happy about this as I am usually begging him to find the knots and break them down!
The machine she lent me was an Invitalis Vitalymed machine, and I have to say, it was indeed very, very good! As good as my husband, no, but way better than nothing or having to wait for him to get home to fix me. It was so good that when she asked for it back, I was gutted, and knew I needed my own.
I couldn’t really afford one like hers, so I went on Amazon to see what my options were? I found a much cheaper model called the Invospa which got good reviews and was only 39.99! I couldn’t see how it could compete at such a drastically smaller price than my friends, but I felt I had to give it a go as it was at least something I could afford. It arrived next day and I tried it out. First impressions on taking it out of the box were good, it looked nice, it felt nice material, it seemed nicely made even. So far so good. So I eagerly plugged it in and stuck it round my neck. Away it went. Sort of. At first, it seemed fine, but as I increased the pressure with my arms to really ‘get in there’ the little motor started to audibly struggle, it was whining and getting very high pitched which concerned me, and as I really started to get into the knot, it started slowing down and struggling to turn! Add to this that the Invospa only had a THREE MONTH WARRANTY! If the manufacturer has so little confidence in their own product, how am I supposed to have any? It was going back, simple as that.
I went back on Amazon to see what else they had, and knew this time that I was wasting my time looking at the cheap models. I spied the Donnerberg, but at 179, knew I couldn’t really afford it. But then, this wasn’t just a toy, this was going to benefit my health and well being, and some things are worth investing in, especially yourself. I checked online for the price of the Invitalis which was the same as my friends model, but this was even more at approx 207 (229 euros). I went back to the Donnerberg and started to do my research. The reviews, both here on Amazon and elsewhere, were excellent. It was recommended by the German Olympic Committee. It also featured a vibration feature for an even deeper massage. It comes with a whopping SEVEN YEARS WARRANTY!! I decided to go for it, and that the credit card was coming out!
It arrived next day (good old Amazon Prime!) and I eagerly opened it, and was impressed by the weight of it compared to the cheaper model. It felt heavier and sturdier and more robust in general. Everything with it seemed really well made, including extras like a spare cover to change if you want to wash the one that’s on (Invitalis doesn’t have this either) But lets get to the bit you want to know – does it work? The answer is YES! I did the same test as with the cheaper Invospa, stuck it around my neck, found a knot, and set it to work. Oo er, that felt good! I won’t lie, it gets in there, so if you want something gutless , this isn’t for you! You have to experience some discomfort, borderline pain to get these knots out, so you may well have to grit your teeth, but at least you can always take some pressure off by relaxing your arms to decrease the intensity. Anyway, being the glutton for punishment that I am, I increased the pressure! The motor didn’t whine, it growled! There was no stopping this one, it meant business! It’s a bit like my car when I point her at a hill, she’s a turbo diesel, and where other cars start to fade on steep hills, mine simply growls and gobbles them up! Well this Donnerberg is the turbo diesel of massagers, trust me! You point it at a knot, and it gets right in there and devours them! And add in the vibration and it REALLY goes to work! It’s amazing!
I knew straight away that this one wasn’t going back. It’s still cheaper than my friends Invitalis, but the power, the build quality, and most of all, the fact they are willing to stand behind their product for SEVEN YEARS (something else my friends more expensive version doesn’t have) just gave me so much confidence that this was the machine for me. Yes, it’s still 179, which sounds a lot, but if your Invospa broke every four months, you’d spend 160 a year replacing it! When you think of it that way, 179 with seven years warranty seems like a bargain really. As I’ve said, I can’t really afford it, and it will take me a while to pay it off, but for me, it’s worth every penny to be able to get to work on my own tension headaches without filling myself with Nurofen and waiting anxiously for my husband to get home. I use it every day and I honestly would not be without it now. I cannot recommend it highly enough! Thanks Donnerberg for a brilliant product!
This is a quality item, well made, heavy, nice leather and feels like a product that will last.
I have a shiatsu massager for a chair and find it a little harsh. If, like me, you have a lot is muscle pain then you will appreciate that this has power settings that can increase the strength of the massage. On its lowest setting it gives a lovely gentle massage, which is effective without being too painful.
Although ideal for your neck you can move this around to get shoulders, back even feet and knees. It has infra red to help relax and soothe.
It is an expensive item, but that expense shows in the subtlety of the massage. Buying cheaper may mean a harsher massage, as well as cheaper parts which can break and this product does come with a seven year guarantee.
My only negative would be the connected cable – I think it would be much easier to use if it were cordless. As well as more convenient.
In summary, very nice massage, with added heat, easy to manoeuvre and if you can afford it I’d say go for it.

I bought the massager a couple of weeks ago after recommendation by my daughter, who also has one. It is as brilliant as she said it would be. I’ve had chronic neck, shoulder and backache for many years. This massager has helped loosen my muscles and the terrible neck popping and bone grinding I was enduring. I went by others’ reviews before deciding to purchase this. It arrived well under a day later! That alone is worth mentioning, but more importantly, the product “does what it says on the tin”. I have given it quite a good testing tonight on my sore back and whilst I may wake tomorrow with a bruised feeling, as a former sports masseur myself, and one who has had plenty of treatments over the years, it is astonishing and liberating to realise I can sit in my armchair and get a really decent treatment. This isn’t the cheapest but it is worth every penny. It is fantastic. When you use it on you neck and shoulders it almost feels like a massage from a person, or perhaps better……it really gets into the knots and tension. I am yet to work out how to use it on other areas as it does say it can be used on feet etc so I cannot comment on this but for your neck, shoulders and back it’s a definite winner.

Bought for my girlfriend…great purchase. Bit of an investment but definitely worth it. Great for back and shoulder pain…provides quick relief and really relaxing. Only possible downsides are that it is quite heavy and you need to be near a socket to use it. Would recommend.
I suffer with very tight knots on shoulders and was finding it difficult to find a therapist who can work them out. this is pretty good for loosening all the way down the spine where it is stiff. Great for up into the neck as well. Expensive but I figure I will save money from not having to go for massages all the time. My physio had no problems with me using it either.

I came across the Donnerberg Massager at Essen’s Spiel conference and immediately wanted one! The massager is super comfortable and really works out any knots. The thing I liked most about this is that you can use it while watching TV in the evening.
My mom suffers from severe neck and back pain and I bought one for her for Christmas. She uses it most evenings now while watching TV and is always sending me messages telling me how great it has been for her neck and back. She can play golf again, I kid you not!

Great product, really well made, have felt the benefits on my back and neck already. The heating and vibration functions are really good the only negative I found was accessing the buttons to change functions can be quite tricky once you have it on, but apart from that I’d highly recommend this product.

It feels like a deep tissue massage and its easy to move around so many parts of your body not just your shoulders and back but also hamstrings, quads, glutes, calves, bottom of feet and stomach.

My hubby bought this massager for me for Christmas and all I can say is that it is fantastic. Really great product. I’ve never tried any of the other cheaper ones so I can’t comment but I went for this one in the hope that it felt like a premium product and it really is. Well made, and gives a really good massage.
Bought for my wife and finally she was finally pleased with a gift i got her. Within a couple of goes she felt some improvement although she felt a bit sore which she felt was due to releasing trapped muscles. Definitely recommend for people with neck/back problems and husbands wanting to get in to their wive’s good books.

It look very promising for long term use. I am using it for my back, I have a very tight muscule there, and some scoliosis; massager getting very deep, it feels like big giant massaging you, hit has 2 intensity levels and vibration, which is very soothing and helping muscule to relax; you feel straight away where you have knots and they melting bit by bit, on the first day it was very sore, but from second time of massage my spine started give clicks, vertebrae becoming looser; I am using it for the whole hour, while watch tv or reading;
Knowing from my experience of getting messages in the past you should expect some discomfort and pain after them for some period( 5-6 sessions), because this process releas stagnation in your tissue and your circulatory system need time to dissolve it, but after that your body will start get better and better, looser, lighter, more mobile.

I can have a massage whenever I need one no booking, travelling or expensive treatments! I can apply the right pressure for me and move it to the specific areas I need to target. Brilliant. I bought this device because I suffer from chronic migraines. I had a similar device before, but it was very annoying to handle and difficult to aim at the places I wanted to target. This massager is perfect! It allows you to control the strength of the massage and perfectly aim where you want it to massage. I would definitely recommend this product! Also, the heat is a a nice bonus.

Item arrived promptly as stated and was well packaged. I am very impressed with the massager, the whole family has used it. I used it for my chronic neck pain and the Donnerberg neck and shoulder massager has helped to undo the knots in my neck muscles dramatically. I have tried various massagers and had treatments from an osteopath and physio therapist and an acupuncture none of which helped very much.
Purchased for my better half for Xmas. Very well packaged and looked like a quality item. Indeed it is very good quality. First use and she claimed it really felt better than other products tried previously.

Received this product as a Christmas gift and I cannot rate it highly enough. I have had intermittent neck problems for some time and my goodness, it really hits the spot. I have used it daily, mainly for my neck but also on my back. So easy to use and because of the handles, easy to alter pressure. I have had other massagers before but this is by far the best.
I decided to buy the Donnerberg massager after all the positive reviews. Very happy with the product. It has helped a lot with the sciatica which I have had for the last 3 years. Easy to use and portable but connection wire could be a bit longer.

I hurt my neck/shoulder in November and after several visits to a chiropractor that were not helping I looked around and found this. It was not the cheapest option but I am glad I paid a bit more because it really works, and it works out cheaper than a chiropractor. It took several sessions of just sitting on the sofa for about 10-15 minutes at a time and letting this master piece do it’s work. It removed the knots in my shoulders and completely freed up my neck so that I could turn it without any pain. I use it to give myself a massage all over my back and hips and with the heat turned on it is lovely.
