FAQ

Does OutdoorCam connect to eufy HomeBase?

No, it is not compatible with eufy HomeBase.

What can I do if the 20 ft cable is too short?

We recommend an extension of the AC (alternating current) terminal instead of using a USB extension. Long USB cables suffer voltage reduction which would cause device malfunction.

Is the MicroUSB connection and the adapter waterproof?

The MicroUSB connection part is equipped with a waterproof silicon cover, while the adapter is not. Please use it with a waterproof cover if plugging it in outdoors.

What storage and recording methods are supported?

MicroSD card storage with 24/7 and clip recording, cloud storage with clip recording and NAS (RTSP) with 24/7 and clip recording. With microSD cards, the camera can record offline and the recordings will auto-sync when connected to a network and can be watched in the app.

How does the spotlight work?

The spotlight can be set to turn on via a schedule, or triggered by motion or noise. Full color night vision is only supported when the spotlights are on, otherwise it will be IR night vision.

What recording lengths can microSD cards store?

Under 1080P recording, 32GB can record for 72 hours; 64GB, 144 hours; and 128GB, 288 hours.

How do I choose between a battery camera (eg. eufyCam2) and a wired camera? What are the differences?

Battery cameras are more flexible, without the limitations of cables and power sockets, while they need to be charged and only support clip-recording. Wired cameras support both 24/7 recording (when using local storage) and clip recording (with a 4s pre-buffer).

Very happy with this, I use it to provide early monitoring at foot of drive located under another light. Works pretty well. I do not use the light or infrared as it just attracts spiders and therefore webs etc. Really good for the money and for simplicity.

Super pleased with this eufy c22 security camera!

The camera is maybe slightly smaller than a tennis ball and feels well made.
The eufy c22 is super simple to set up by downloading the eufy app, registering, scanning a QR and joining a WiFi network. Installation was a breeze and it’s very easy to move and direct to where you want it to point.

The camera is held on the bracket via strong magnetism and I’ve read a few reviews saying it may be easy to grab and remove which is true however the cable coming from the camera is held behind the wall mount and I would imagine a rip from the wall would end up damage this connection rendering it useless to be honest any security camera of this type would be vulnerable to ripping off the wall. It doesn’t bother me and just keep it high out of reach.

Motion detection is good and the app has a few different options for setting up, timings and notifications. The video quality is brilliant at 1080p and it has its own spotlight which seems to work very well at night with regards colour and extending viability. I’m surprised at how far visibility extends and the detail the video shows.

Overall I’m delighted with this little camera, will definitely buy more eufy products and will maybe look at the c24 2k model next!

Bought to replace my C24 indoor cams which didn’t work quite as I wanted them to (awkward to mount, protruded more and not playing nicely with Home Assistant).

These do the job great though so I would say they are worth the extra.

    The magnetic mount is excellent.

I like these cameras as a cheap compromise to an expensive CCTV setup. They are cheap because you can store video on the sdcard and then access it from anywhere. In theory that means a criminal could steal the sdcard and your lose the video, that’s the compromise. I think that’s unlikely as nobody knows they aren’t storing data to a secure off-site system. Also I’m not protecting the crown jewels with these!
You won’t be able to read number plates at night with these as they appear dazzling white (over exposed), you’d need a proper CCTV camera for that.
They are great for general home CCTV recording and as a deterrent to criminals.
If you want to view the recordings away from home you will need a decent internet connection. Additionally you should purchase a 128Gb high endurance micro sdcard for a weeks worth of recordings.

Definitely best notifications from any app, theses eufy cameras actually detect movement and alert you with a screenshot sent your your phone, before clicking through and viewing the video.

Would 100% recommend if you already have their doorbell.

I really like this camera. A quality product and a breeze to install. The micro usb cable provided is long enough to help position this unit facing our garden. The motion detection is really good and the quality of the footage too. There are screwbits provided to install it but I found using the 3M stickers (also provded) a doddle to use.

I own multiple cameras and a video doorbell from eufy so yes I’m brand loyal. When I did initially look to buy my first camera, I did a far bit of research and stumble across eufy. As they are part of Anker, and having owned numerous products from them I took the leap. I was not disappointed and hence went on to buy more.

My only gripe (and it is very slight) is the mounting, due to the location of the USB cable, I did have to D print a little shim so I could get it to cover where I wanted it to – yes that’s my problem because of the camera location so shouldn’t affect others.

Having installed this I’m reviewing after 24 hours of use and will update accordingly if required

So far I’m more than pleased with this C22 camera. I’ve had loads of less than premium cameras in the past, but this one is fantastic. Picture is sharp, sound is great, motion detection is faultless, alarm is loud and spotlight is bright. Everything is as advertised and brilliant.

However there a couple of niggles that prevents a 5 star rating which I’m sure people reading this want to know about. Firstly installation is easy, but it took about 3 hours of setting the app up to get everything working as it should, but no big deal, its only done once, I’m used to Google products which take 5 mins so had to mark down for this.

Secondly the power cable is not very long, 20 feet sounds a lot but in reality its not, I’m going to need a USB extension for the next one but again these are pretty cheap.

Thirdly there is a lag with displaying on a TV via chromecast, or playing on a Google hub. This is quite notable and around 13 seconds which is annoying. However viewing on the app is maybe a 2 second lag and where most of the live streaming will be so again not a deal breaker.

Fourth, for some reason the notifications only provide an auditory notification on my phone when I choose text based notification only, if I select text and image push notification it still comes through but is silent which defeats the object. Though this could be an issue with my phone, I don’t know.

Lastly, and disappointingly, there is no option to integrate a notification into Google assistant which I hoped there would be. A notification on my Google speakers would be fantastic and maybe something that could be done via a software update in the future if Google allow.

But don’t let these points put you off, I’m merely stating everything that prevents a 5 star rating. I love this camera and am buying 2 more shortly.

If this was 150 maybe I could moan about some of the features, but for the price it’s awesome.

If you can live with the points above, you will definitely be pleased with it.

    Well done Eufy

Having already owning a Eufy camera for indoor use, I decided to take the plunge and buy an outdoor one with being on a bit of a “rat run” road and gangs becoming a little more hostile just lately I wanted to add some extra protection to the house. Eufy is great, no subscription which makes everything much better. The cameras themselves are great and just been able to see it all through your phone without loads of hassle of expensive equipment it definitely makes the buy WORTH WHILE!

Magnetic base is great, granted only works on one side but it was good enough with the flip 180 angle. The price you pay you definitely get more than what any other “security camera” could offer at a cheaper price. It’s well build, camera quality is great and its a simple set-up. 5/5

Bought for the front of the house and was easy to setup and configure. The video quality at 1080 is great. Night vision is also clear. The best bits is the on camera AI person detection works well and the notifications pop onto the phone instantly.

I was impressed enough to buy a second for the back of the house.

I’ve not used the cloud feature have it set record continuously and also output the Rtsp stream. The streams I use in Home Assistant and home bridge with no issues.

I also don’t use the light or alarm features but all work well when tested. So small sized camera that does everything I want and has been trouble free, recommended.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersFirst standout feature is its strong WiFi connection. My old Nest Cam Outdoor always struggled with my router and had many dropped connections. This Eufy cam has really impressed me with a solid WiFi connection (when viewing live footage and accessing clips on the micro SD card).

Connecting to the live stream takes about 1-2 seconds. My Nest cam took about 5-10 seconds. It doesn’t seem much, but 5-10 seconds is too long if you want to check who’s are your property. No drop outs, no loading screens the Eufy just works. Also, the clarity with night visions is super sharp. You also have the added benefit of a very bright led spotlight that turns on automatically when it senses movement. You can also choose to leave it on, too.

Also, the built in AI chip really does deliver on its promise to eliminate false positives. It’s only notified me of actual humans and not shadows or random objects. Again, my Nest Cam found it difficult to make these decisions. In the Eufy Security app, you are also able to draw out a highlighted area of the camera’s field of vision, to further enhance accuracy. Luckily, the app is world-class and is very snappy to use.

I’m dead impressed with the Eufy Outdoor Cam. It really does showcase how you don’t have to spend too much money these days for excellent and cutting-edge technology. So glad I upgraded from the slow and ageing Nest Cam equivalent. Don’t hesitate to buy!

Golden Review Award: 84 From Our UsersThis is an honest review (I purchased the cam and haven’t been paid for this review!) on the 1080p Eufy Outdoor Cam. I’m a big fan of the Eufy 2k cameras and have many of these already, I noticed the Eufy Outdoor camera 1080p C22 on a deal so I decided to take a chance and to purchase this camera to see what this is like!
    Build:
I’ve been waiting for an Outdoor Eufy wired camera for a long time but what worried me was the magnet design on the C22. However the magnet is very strong and the cable can be secured by the metal plate, the magnet is very strong and gives you the ability to move the camera to countless positions to get the best picture. The magnet has a slight angle so you can use this to help point the camera down, the magnet sits directly on top of the metal plate that you screw into the wall, the camera itself is mostly magnetic on the back half of the camera. I managed to get a 3D printed drain pipe bracket on ebay (designed for the older Eufy 2c/2 Pro cams) and secured the cable to the mount using a cable tie for extra safety. What would worry me about the magnet design is if the cam is positioned within reachable distance this could easily be stolen, for me this was positioned too high to reach. I haven’t experienced gale force winds yet but so far in moderate speeds the camera hasn’t budged at all. The camera casing is solid, with the power cable coming out of the back of the cam, this is very short (about 20cm) and this plugs into a 20 ft cable which has a waterproof silicon cover to stop the weather getting in. The front of the camera doesn’t have too much of a lip and no shelter which has worked well to stop spider webs from getting in the way of the video, but likewise isn’t effected by the rain hitting the lens either. As there is no shelter you will have to expect a bit of glare from the sun, so you’ll need to make sure you position this accordingly. I bought an SD card to go into the camera and I found the bottom SD cover very stiff to open (it has a seal round the cover), the setup button is also located here too. I wouldn’t want to be trying to open this too often to get access to the SD card, so make sure you set the camera up and put the SD card in prior to positioning your camera! This camera only works on 2.4GHz, so it doesn’t reach as far as 5GHz so make sure you have good Wi-Fi signal strength to where you want to place the camera. Weather wise, I’ve had my camera in the recent heatwave, in downpours and in mildly windy conditions and it’s performed brilliantly.
    Day Video Quality:
As mentioned, I usually go for 2k, however I was surprised how good the 1080p quality is compared to other 1080p cameras I’ve owned. As you would expect the higher up the camera is you’ll start to lose the detail, but being about 15ft up I’m still getting excellent video quality, I can still see details such as my car number plates. On a mobile device I actually find it near impossible to see the difference between a 2k and a 1080p video from my Eufy camera. So i’m quite pleased with the 1080 picture. There are multiple storage options but I utilize both the cloud storage subscription and the SD options with continuous recording and both of these function perfectly, no missed videos, motion detection works every time. You can set this to 24/7 continuous recording or set this to a schedule on when to record in the app.
    Night Vision Quality:
A bonus to the outdoor cameras is the LED spotlight, this is how Eufy advertise colour at night feature. Due to the position of my camera there’s no benefit for me to use this so i switched the spotlight OFF in the app. However there are multiple options in the app for the spotlight on the camera, you can adjust the LED brightness, you can turn the spotlight OFF, you can schedule this to come ON and OFF at certain times, set this to automatically come on when motion is detected or even switch this on manually during live streaming. The night vision only has 4 infrared LED’s which is slightly less than other Eufy cameras, but they are still very good, I actually found the Outdoor camera lens also picks up more light when it’s dark (compared to other older outdoor cams I’ve had previously). I have a street light a few houses down and found that actually the picture was very good at night WITHOUT the night vision turned on, in fact I generally shocked how good the colour picture was without enabling night vision so i don’t use night vision! – But this will all depend on what light you have around the camera.
    Other bits:
    – The Eufy app has lots of features for the camera, spotlight, mounting options, continuous recording option (24/7 or scheduled), Video record quality, notification settings on what type of alert you want to receive, sound detection, status LED (ON or OFF)
    – You can share app access to guests and friends (or family members) and you can set what cameras they can have access to!
    – Motion detection (set up to 2 activity zones for motion detection), can detect person, pet and other motion and send you an alert when detected. You can configure the motion sensitivity.
    – Playback, I found there a slight delay of about 2 seconds on live view. I have noticed if you watch playback sometimes the yellow motion sections don’t show without exiting the app and going back in. playback remotely on 4G/Mobile data was the same experience as on WiFi in the house. Notifications are pretty instant too and have a nice preview of the motion detected (ie. person, tree, pet)
    – Storage – You don’t get any storage by default, you need to purchase a micro SD card for local storage, NAS or pay for the cloud subscription (either single camera, subscription Basic, around 2 p/m or up to 10 cameras, subscription Plus, around 7 p/m)
    – The camera has a speaker and this is very, (I mean VERY) loud. There is a beep when you initially enter setup mode and my ears were still ringing afterwards, so be warned! But good for speaking to intruders or anyone outside, the camera also picks up sound very well too on the recordings.
    – The box contained 2 small screws and wall plugs, USB power UK socket, 20Ft USB extension cable, the Camera, instructions, camera magnet base, metallic plate and a 3M sticker if you didn’t want to put the screw in the metallic plate!
    – The SD cards are encrypted so you have to remove the SD card to put into a computer to access or access through the playback within the Eufy app.
    – You can access your Eufy camera from a web browser on your computer, I wasn’t aware of this until recently and thought it was only the accessible on the phone app!
    – I don’t use NAS/Eufy Homebase so I cant review on this.
    – The only downside to the Eufy app is the playback feature, motion is highlighted in yellow so you can easily see this, however you’re limited to 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x or16x speed so can be a little overwhelming if you have lots of motion on the outdoor camera. It would be nice to have a day brief option, all the outdoor camera motion clips compiled in a 60 second short video to have a recap/overview of the day!

I’ll update my review if anything changes, but at the time of writing this I’m very pleased with the 1080p version of the Wired Outdoor Cam (C22) and given the picture quality during the day and night, I have no regrets for not spending the extra cash on a 2k version of the Outdoor Cam.

If you thought this review was helpful please let me know below!
