Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI cannot fault this item! I have not used a circular saw before and was very much afraid to use it until I tried I expected it to be very scary to use but was so excited to find it easy. It cut through my chunk of melamine like butter and is more stable than I could’ve imagined. The installed blade left no tear out on either side of my work piece and thrilled would be understatement indeed! Packaged perfectly and delivered quickly I would recommend this tool and vendor 100%.

I suppose you should expect a “General Use ” blade with such a versatile tool, but it is still an extra cost to have to buy a finer blade. A bit heavier than I expected, but having used it three or four times now, it is doing what I need with the fine blade. As good as my other Evolution Sliding Mitre saw.

Very dissapointing to receive an obviously used looking, dirty, paint splashed circular saw.
I had timber waiting to be cut within this window of great weather but when this arrived in such a condition, I was very angry to say the least. To Amazon’s credit, their returns system booked me a free collect & return whilst at the same time, shipping me an advance replacement.
Now, if that goes well, then it’ll be a satisfactory outcome but watch this space, I may get another used one to boil over into anger over!!
    UPDATE.
    Replacement working beautifully… Thanks

Received dirty, paint splashed, used saw.

Excellent build quality considering the price. The included multi material blade is perfect for all round diy work or as a rough and ready saw for tradesmen who perhaps want to protect their expensive Festool or similar from too much abuse.

Won’t find a better saw for the money in my opinion.

A powerful, well-made saw leaving a superbly clean finish. Changing angles and depth simple and straightforward.

Just be aware that this model does not fit the Evolution track. That’s my fault for making an assumption but it means I have wasted a pile of cash buying track I can’t use.

A great machine. I cut 60 wooden slats down to the size I wanted in 1.5 hours. The disc blade supplied with the machine is a ” ripper “, it would be better if the other disc was supplied as well, even if the price was increased. All in all, 5 stars.

This saw has plenty of power and has safety features to keep the user safe. The accuracy of the depth setting is very good but the indicator against the scale is a tiny wee triangle which is stupidly difficult to see. The maximum cutting depth is 60mm which is ample for most diy jobs.
If it wasn’t for the depth indicator, I’d rate this 5 stars.

Easy to use, guard worked smoothly when cutting 2″ thick door panels – didn’t have to manually lift it to get started – and multi material blade went through no bother with surprisingly neat finish.
Can’t say much on durability as only used for couple of doors but feels sturdy and well made.

Very pleased with purchase. Very sharp accurate cut. Have used this to cut gate and fence wood. Easy to use. Will slice through nails. Blade can cut wood, metal and plastic. My only niggle would be that it doesn’t have soft start but the torque does not give too much kick. A laser guide would be useful . There is a metal guide included. Have used Evolution mitre saw which is excellent too.

  31. Anonymous says:

This is the best Circular saw I have ever used. There is a gap in the base plate so you can see exactly where the blade will strike. The base plate is very hard wearing reinforced plastic so no buckling or bending like I found with metal base plates. It also has a thermal cut out so no danger of burning out the windings like I did with my other one. The large diameter wood/metal blade make this an excellent tool for cutting up palettes with the odd nail.

I first used this to cut up some wood to make some raised beds, and it really works great. I was not disappointed. it has a powerful 1600 W hi-torque motor, optimised gearbox and blade system. It’s much more lightweight than it looks, and it is really easy to use. I really like the adjustable guide that literally adjusts to guide the circular blade through whatever you’re cutting. Be that mild steel, aluminium, wood (even with embedded nails), plastic, copper, PVC and possibly more.

This is excellent. It replaces my old Bosch saw – which has seen a lot of use over 2 decades.
This saw cuts through anything, and it does so cleanly, effeciently and without fuss. My only slight concern is that it gives off a loud startup noise and you have to hold it securely because it does give quite a kick when it starts up.

Saw cuts most materials and does it clean and tidy. The guides on the saw are very clear and make following a pencil line along very easy.

The saw did take a little time to get setup, and some significant adjustments to get the blade to perpendicular. But once set correctly, the saw cuts well and the angle guide works well.

An amazing piece of kit which has seen me retire my trusty hand saw. I bought mine from Screwfix after seeing my builder use a similar one to do a shell conversion on our loft. Most impressive for me was seeing how easy it precisely makes cutting large sheets of MDF and plywood.

Buying this was truly life changing even before I knew you could alter the cutting angle and depth. I could have probably read about the full features from the manual but the text was so small you’d need a telescope to read it. Better still, I searched Google for tips on using a circular saw.

The saw motor does protrude to the left which can be obstructed if you are holding the wood which is being cut. Given most people are right handed I’m surprised it wasn’t designed the other way round. If you are cutting sheets using a clamped wooden guide then it is just a matter of making sure it is not placed on the side of the motor.

Yes, it has a few drawbacks but until I bought one of these I would never have attempted to build cupboards and other such things. Now every spare space has a cupboard thanks to this. It is by far the best saw I have in my arsenal of tools.

    POSITIVE THINGS:
    * Strong design
    * Trustworthy brand
    * Affordable for every DIY’er
    * Easy to hold and therefore cut

    NEGATIVE THINGS:
    * Manual text is too small.
    * Motor protrudes to much.

Love it. You get a very good tool for the money. Spent ages researching circular saws of similar price range and finally decided on this one. Did not disappoint.

I bought it for 1 particular DIY job (trimming solid wood doors) so didn’t want to spend too much but I have used it for many other projects since as I am growing in confidence and this saw makes easy work of everything I have thrown at it due to all its adjustments and clean cut.

The only thing would be to check and adjust the settings/angles when you first get it. Don’t assume it’s all at 0 on your first cut.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThis circular saw has a circular blade made for sawing. Awesome! When you power it up the circular blade rotates rather quickly and if you push it against a piece of wood (or metal), the wood (or metal or plastic) is suddenly transformed from one thing into two. Miraculous! The handy adjustable guide adjusts to guide the circular blade through pieces of plastic (or metal or wood), all (or any) of which automatically double in number. It has a cable with a plug on the end so you can plug it in to any matching socket which you can usually find on a wall in a domestic environment such as a house, bungalow or sometimes even a small cabin in the woods. I’m not sure who installed the electrics in my house but they put lots of these sockets in handy places and the plug on this circular saw fits all (or any) of them. Genius! I haven’t tried cutting anything else except wood but I think it would happily cut through metal or plastic or even bone if you had some intensive butchery planned or had to dispose of a corpse or an old corset. Fantastic! One of its strongest features is the flip-up blade cover which makes it really difficult to sever a finger or other appendage. Even so, if you did manage to get one or more fingers inside the cover while the blade was zipping along at its usual heady speed, you can rest assured that they would be quickly and neatly cut with the minimum amount of fuss (although your ability to count to higher numbers might also be impaired as a result). Tremendous! In short, I thoroughly recommend this product if you have plastic (or metal or wood or possibly bone) that needs quickly and neatly dividing, provided you have a socket into which the plug will fit and have at least one hand with which to hold it. Brilliant!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’m near the end of building an oak sleeper wall. This is what killed off my old saw only a few cuts from finishing. I picked up a Amazon Warehouse deal and got an opened but unused bargain.

This new saw is a beast. Things i like so far:

    1) Blade get up to speed very fast (was a bit of a shock the first time). It also stops very fast.
    2) The angle plate starts at zero degrees (My old saw could go past zero), so its easy to reset back and be sure to get a straight cut.
    3) Cuts the oak sleepers like butter…In fact i can’t tell when its started cutting.

I have had this tool for a while without the right project to use it. I have now used it for a couple of projects in the same day and have to say I am very impressed with it.
It comes almost fully assembled – you need to attach the cutting blade, the exhaust tube (for ejecting the dust while cutting) and if required, a guide rule.
The manual goes to great lengths to ensure you know how dangerous this tool can be, if not handled correctly (part of the reason it has taken me so long to try it out). There is a rotating cover over the blade, which moves as the blade progresses. This can be moved manually if you need it out of the way. There is a small notch on the chassis which shows where the blade will cut. The base of the chassis can be tilted, so the blade can cut at an angle.
It is a quite light piece of machinery but solid – it has the feel of a serious piece of equipment. I have cut quite a few pieces of different types of wood, with wonderfully accurate and smooth cuts. Even trimming a post to a point has been easy. Not a particularly loud tool either, although this also depends upon what you are cutting through.
    A very good, well-built tool.

This is significantly smaller than our older circular saw we’ve used for years but is far better quality and much more easy to manage, more comfortable to hold and definitely a tad lighter. This has everything we needed in a Saw and has made laying our new decking a lot easier and less work.

My Partner who has been using this for us mainly has said that it’s comfortable to hold and has a well designed handle which makes it easier for longer use. The cord is more than long enough and is incredibly powerful. He said he likes how the dust blows away from you, keeping a clean area and he’s so far only had to change the blade once but said it was easy with the allen key provided.

So far this has mainly been used to cut wood but also wood with nails in and this hasn’t caused any issues and everything feels effortless with this, we even tried a metal pipe to test the blade it came with and it’s exceptional quality and again made easy work of it.

All in all, very impressed. The only thing we felt would be good would be for it to have a little carry case to keep it together and safe but we’ve found an old case to fit it so this isn’t an issue.

Highly recommended, a great budget saw but very effective and excellent quality.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBoasting a 1600W motor with a gearbox optimized for use with the supplied R1855TCT-20S blade, the manufacturers of this circular saw profess that it is able to cut a wide variety of materials including steel, aluminium, plastic, PVC etc., etc..

I have owned this circular saw for a while now and have tried it for a wide variety of uses, including many of the aforementioned materials.

My first impressions were the excellent build quality and how compact yet strong the unit is. Ease of use is just a matter of common sense, with safety being paramount at all times for a device like this.

I am not a DIY expert and I just want a basic unit that does the job. This Evolution circular saw does just that.

Although the blade is relatively thin, it cuts well, leaving a smooth finish on all the materials I have used it with.

A storage box or container would have been nice to securely store the unit, as I have instead had to find a convenient place in my shed to hang the unit.

It cuts straight and easily on 16mms ply and doesn’t leave a ragged edge, it’s as noisy as all the rest but no louder, ear protectors are required with any of them, the multi material blade is very handy if you are cutting used wood and hit a nail as it slices straight through, easy to change blade, makes a mess without a vacuum attached like they all do but it doesn’t direct the sawdust at your eyes

This saw is probably made in China (what isn’t! ) but it’s made to the companies specifications which are good imo, it certainly does everything its supposed to do.

Only downside for me is a lack of storage case, I would gladly pay a bit more for one

Good, solid saw without being excessively heavy, so it’s easy to work with. Big enough to cope with any job I’m likely to use it for, without being cumbersomely large. It’s cut through some thick marine-grade plywood, MDF, decking boards and hardwood doors with no trouble at all.

The dust-blowing feature is handy, making it much easier to see where you’re cutting than my older basic Black & Decker circular saw.

The included multi-material blade is handy – I’ve mostly used it on wood so far, but it’s good to know that, if there were any nails in the way, it’d go straight through them with no trouble.

Given the build quality and the inclusion of spare brushes, I expect I’ll be using this saw for quite some time.

I found this saw to be really useful, being able to cut through both wood, metal and plastic. I presume it’s possible to add this blade onto an existing saw but as I needed a new one, this made sense.

I’ve used this for cutting up an old shed – being able to cut through the panels without having to worry about whether there are any nails that I will cut through. I’ve also used it to cut through an old metal chassis from a trailer. It did struggle a bit with this, but then the metal was a fair bit thicker than it says it would cut through. However, being able to cut through the metal in this way probably reduced the time for doing the job from about 5 hours down to about 30 minutes which makes a huge difference. I can’t recommend this functionality enough.

The saw is easy to use, and does what you would expect a circular saw to do, with the added benefit of cutting other materials.

    Recommended – a great buy.

    Evolution Power Tools – Build R185CCS Multi-Material Circular Saw, 185 mm, 230 V
Good for serious DIY and light trade.
This circular saw by Evolution fitted with the supplied blade cuts most materials you’re likely to be using with minimum fuss and bother. I say minimum because using any saw of this type demands attention to basic safety in use.
It’s well made and set up so that accuracy out of the box depends on how you use it rather than any built in limitations.
Certainly DIY with softwoods and MDF is no challenge for this saw, either freehand or with a fence.
The build quality and materials used in this saw are better than my other Evolution green “Fury” branded saw. It has a solid feel that gives confidence but is still well balanced for the weight. So far nothing I’ve used it on has given it pause – 2 inch victorian oak doors, 18mm ply and MDF and laminated worktops have all been cut without complaint. Only time will tell, but this feels like a solid workhorse of a tool.

    Evolution Power Tools – Build R185CCS Multi-Material Circular Saw, 185 mm, 230 V

This is a seriously good circular saw. It’s the third one I have owned and from sheer build quality and cutting ability it easily comes out on top — but then I have always gone for the “budget” range before. It’s easy enough to set up — the blade comes separately but is very easy to fit with the 8mm hex key. The blade itself is described as a “Japanese tungsten carbide tipped blade” — I’ve no idea what that means but it does its job excellently — cutting through the wood or plastic I have sent through it so far (haven’t tried any metals as of yet as haven’t needed to).

Obviously with any circular saw like this it is important to be safe first and there are a number of warnings that come with a blade. Also it’s advisable to wear both mouth and eye protection for your own comfort!

I’ve only one slight criticism with it over my previous circular saws – and some may also see it as a good point – and that is that it is quite heavy. This gives it a greater feel of quality but does mean that it is not as manoeuvrable.

A really good addition to my tool kit!

This is a really good circular saw. The powerful 1600 watt motor means it drives through wood or light metal with ease. We used it for making up a few garden bird tables, and it was ideal to cut the wood.
Not a light-weight item, it’s quite heavy, but the blade more than capable to undertake the work.
Works off the standard plug, no adapter required

Circular saws are a must have for cutting through sheets of wood that would ordinarily take forever by hand or jigsaw. Despite the ferocious looking blade edge, they can give some smooth cuts, at least on the top edge. I put this to the test on some 18mm ply that was going down in my attic and it sliced through it with relative ease. The initial start up torque tried to pull it to one side, but once aware of that I would compensate for it.

It is no better or worse than a B+Q saw I had, but it felt a little more durable, lighter and comfortable to operate. This saw was als a little more versatile in terms of angle of cut and mitring. The multi-purpose blade is ideal and saves having to keep swapping blades for different jobs. Though I would probably opt for a specific blade if I was to be cutting a lot of the same material. The noise this makes is just as painful as any other power tool and so ear protection is required. Goggles are also advised, but a lot of the sawdust was directed away from me.

Save your arms and time – get one of these.

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersI have a few Evolution tools now. A sliding mitre saw – very good for the money and a saw bench that is frankly a bit rubbish. As a brand it plays a bit on the ‘UK’ thing but in reality is from what I can see an importer of power tools made by the usual suspects in China. I believe that some of their stuff is ‘designed in the UK’ but definitely some stuff is rebranded equipment.

It is the way of the world and whilst has some disadvantages – namely gear that barely works – it is possible to get fantastic stuff for a very reasonable price that a few years ago would have been far more pricey.

This circular saw is a case in hand. You are not looking at Makita levels of quality but certainly on a par with the likes of DeWalt and Milwaukee. And before anyone jumps up and down, Milwaukee is owned and made by the same Hong Kong Chinese company that makes Ryobi and AEG stuff. There are few brands that can be called professional now as most are simply names put on the side of gear that is made with different colours of plastic. Pull them apart and you’ll see the same internals.

So, my point being is that this Evolution saw is pretty good for the price, being decent quality and certainly a few grades above the low end guff. In fact I have a Skillsaw that I bought about 20 years ago when they were probably still good quality and this compares favourably in some places.

The first thing you notice is that it’s nice and compact – but has a bit of heft to it. This heft has the double benefit of making it feel decent quality – bit like the clunk a high end car door makes which gives you that nice warm feeling of money having been well spent and of course, the weight helps damp vibrations and keeps you on line when in use.

Other things to notice are that it comes with a cast alloy base – much better than a pressed steel one – and the plastic seems to be PA6 which is glass fibre reinforced. Makes the case strong and tough. If you get a knife and try and scrape a bit off you will find with glass fibre impregnated plastic you get a kind of rough feel to it.

Anyway, the materials seem to be pretty good and of course made to last. Evolution have also included some brushes as well so chances are this saw will last a good few years of decent use.

Now, jumping back to the cast base – excellent – but, it’s not all good. Cast bases are more expensive than pressed steel ones but I can see that Evolution have compensated for this a tad by making the base less than complete. By that I mean that there is quite a large hole in the middle of the base as a relief for the blade but to my eyes is excessive. This might make some cuts starting at the edge of a plank tricky because there won’t be much base in touch with the wood. You can see it in the pictures.

The other disadvanatge of a cast base is of course that if you drop the saw you may well crack it or knock a bit off. With a pressed steel base you can auto-correct any failures with carefully applied hammering….Not so with a case base.

In use the saw cuts superbly. Smooth, accurate and minimal resistance. The blade of course is the reason and, once again with Evolutution you have a double edged sword. The blade is quite thin – presumably to save on money – which allows a fast neat cut. The flipside is of course, that it may well wear faster.

Regardless, in new condition it cuts well and leaves a clean finish on wood, MDF and as you can see steel, given that the board slipped and I ended up slicing through the end of my saw bench and a bolt.

There is one other thing which, is that you don’t get a storage box with this. It suggests that Evolution have made damn sure they have left no stone unturned in their quest for value and cost effectiveness, shaving ever penny where they can.

Overall though, this is a good saw. Well made, cuts fast and neatly and gives the impression that it will last a while. But the parsimonious base is something to bear in mind.

    Excellent Circular Saw

Love it. Mostly just the satisfaction of how well it’s designed based on an actual human using it. The first best bits about it are:

When changing the blade you can sit it up and it’ll be still on it’s motor
Comes with the perfect fit allen key for changing the blade
That same allen key has it’s own hold in the handle so you don’t lose it
    Nice long 3m power cable
Direction of rotation indicators on the blade guard
    Really lightweight

To change the angle up to 45 degrees is done by a locking lever rather than a screw, which is very efficient.

I’ve used a lot of circular saws and this one seems to be one of the best designed. They all cut materials in a straight line, but this Evolution one makes life just that bit easier with the added extras and thought.

It comes with a vac attachment tool, ideal if you’re cutting MDF as the dust and waste gets everywhere.

The front handle is lower set than other saws i’ve used. So this does give much more control over the saw and a stronger ability to grip and manoeuvre it, however it does make me more conscious that i’m going to lob my own hand off. Probably something that just needs getting used to.

I tried it on some hardwood and a PVC pipe and both came off clean and well edged. Haven’t tried any metal yet but I don’t doubt it will be fine. The all-purpose blades work well for non-specialist tasks, absolutely no problem with it working with woods.

As a keen DIY-er I am not unfamiliar with saws like this, i have tried several brands and for value for money I would consider Evolution tools every time.
This saw has a powerful motor, making it ideal for tough jobs as it is powerful enough for every bit of its cutting range, with its maximum range working perfectly with no stalling of the motor.
It is easy to put together on arrival- literally a 5 minute job.
The blade provided can cope with practically everything you can throw at it, this is a big bonus and even more so because many brands dont even provide a blade, expecting you to pay out for that separately.
I particularly like the feature that blows sawdust out of your cutting area so you can see marks clearly, this takes the guess work out of following your line .
Without a vacuum attachment it is quite messy and you need to make sure that you stand clear of any blow back, but you are cutting stuff and some mess is to be expected.

I would highly recommend not only this saw, i have had several tools from Evolution for a number of years and have never had a problem with them.
