Use EXTREME CARE when operating & handling this power tool, there is NO SAFETY BUTTON on the on/off trigger & the trigger itself has a very light spring fitted so the slightest touch WILL turn this SAW ON!!!!!!!BE WARNED

I have several Evolution tools and have to say i am pleased with the quality of them. I bought this a while ago, put it away after first couple of uses as wasn’t happy with it but then I wasn’t that impressed with lighter, smaller other make versions either. Not the tool but me to blame. Since then I have have watched a few videos on using Jig saws, and finally got to grips with this one. In a much better place now with using it, even getting better at cutting curves, just made a new table with chess board painted on it, more likely will be used as my first intention, a drinks table (LOL)
Recommendations – Watch tutorials on using a jig saw, practice lots on different materials and if cutting a straight line make sure you clamp a straight edge in places to guide your cut. Use the correct blades for what you want to do, ie holes use thin blade not a the standard ones that you get with the tool.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst of all.. Many thanks to everyone who replied to my community question regarding this Jigsaw.. so helpful and instrumental in me buying this fantastic bit of kit .
It may seem ‘big’,,but.. It has a trigger activated variable speed control. Unlike many others that have pre-set speeds that are dialed in on a ‘thumb wheel’ and the trigger is merely a On/Off switch with speed starting at a set speed,, Which in my opinion has far less control. It also has a far better blade change mechanism. I have had two Bosch jigsaws, with lift to fit and release blade change function and both have broken, both just outside of the waranty period!! . One i bought from Amazon the other from somewhere else at the same time..so no link there…An expensive lesson.
How long this lasts is to be seen, but I am already more than happy and hope all the above helps…. Geoff

I’m not a tradesman. Just an amateur. I own an evolution circular saw which has served me well for years.
This is my first jigsaw. It’s powerful and the evolution blades don’t disappoint – just like their circular saw blade it can cut anything but isn’t the best choice for any one thing.. on wood it shreds the top side, but leaves a nice clean line on the other side. however, unlike the circular saws, this jigsaw takes any t-shank blades, so you can choose according to need. The saw will handle it.
It’s speedy and controllable – genuinely gets gradually faster and slower, not just 3 settings and a pretend dial. The 3 pendulum settings are also noticeably different from each other. Good solid strokes, no flimsiness in the blade/action.
It’s heavy. Which is its main negative – but that comes from its main positive: its solid. The silver front face is solid metal, not plastic. the laser line isn’t in line with the blade (on purpose?) so it sits to the left of your blade. Dunno how useful it is really. And it has separate AAA batteries and it’s own special switch to turn on..
Having said all that it’s not cordless, so you’re planning to use it stationary and it’s great for that. The weight actually makes it easier to control despite vibrations and it sits nice and flat.
The angle changing thingy is a bit complicated – you don’t just switch angle with a little dial on the outside, you have to unscrew the base plate (remove plastic base plate first, then put it back on) but it’s got click-points, so you’re not turning blind.
    Great choice for the money.

    Heavy but powerful and well-built.

Exactly what I have been looking for but never thought I would be able to afford for my D.I.Y. Tool kit works like a dream more than enough power for me and the marks are unnoticeable. It’s too be used not looked at.

This is a great bit of kit. It is heavier than run of the mill jigsaws, but is well balanced in the hand. Cuts brilliantly. Not a bad thing to say about it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLove this jigsaw , I replace my very old and well used makita . This tool is great and the multi purpose blades are the best. I have used it so far to cut out sink and hob holes in 40mm worktops which it handles no problem and even cuts through the underlying kitchen unit and fixings etc where req. it performs a very true and plumb cut whilst doing this And I personally find that the heavier weight of this jigsaw. A bonus as it seems to help it cut straighter and more plumb than most. I have also used the saw and blades on lots of laminate flooring which it also does a great job on.

This was bought to replace an identical model which I have had for several years and which has done a huge amount of work and is now simply worn out. The old one has suffered years of abuse and in spite of being seriously dropped from a great height continues to work even though its foot is bent out of all recognition! I can still use it for rough work!

Well built appears to be on the heavy side, I was hoping that it would cut straight but in anything thicker then plywood the blade cuts at a angle. Blade does cut through nails though.

    Great tool for the price.

Easy to use, adaptable for both wood and metal. Three different settings to ease cutting. All in all the right tool for the job.

Gave to my brother to use, who is not a DIY’er who managed to use it perfectly fine, although he managed to break the blade before he returned it! Blades can be purchased from anywhere, as it’s a standard bayonet attachment.

Only negative, as with most tools that use a laser is that it’s not properly aligned, so it needs to be adjusted.

A cracking piece of kit ONCE you fix the laser and tighten things up, at first it wobbles all over the place until you take the bottom plate off and tighten up the bolt underneath it, then its awesome!

I have other saws from this manufacturer and I’m not disappointed. However it’s a shame it didn’t come with a case – smacks of penny pinching.

There is a two star review from another poster on here that pours undue scorn on this jigsaw. Jigsaws by their nature are not designed to cut accurate long straight lines. The blade thickness is a large reason as to why the cut will wander off line. Some blades are available that are thicker, I have some Bosch and Festool which are thicker and do decrease blade wander on the workpiece. If I want a beautifully straight line on a piece of timber I either get the timber yard to cut sheet materials for me or get the circular saw or router out.

Fantastic jigsaw which cuts through wood and aluminium like butter. The only negative I have is around the locking mechanism for the blade – it is very close to the front blade guard meaning that it is not always the easiest to lock or unlock the bit.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have always been a big fan of bosch and Makita jigsaws for cutting worktops mainly ,but when my last one died on me ,through heavy use and age I thought I would give the evolution jigsaw a try ,having already got the circular saw . Well I must say it is a fantastic piece of kit especially at the price , it just eats kitchen worktops ,set it off and guide it along ,no problems !

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI was only going to give this 4 stars but, after careful consideration, I cannot give this anything other than 5. Easily the best Jigsaw I have ever owned. It is very powerful. It is heavier than most others, but in my book – heavy =q uality! It easily glides through anything I have thrown at is so far. No annoying blade cutting at a slight angle off 90degrees (like some other cheaper orange brands I could mention, but won’t!) The laser line and blower keeps the work simple to follow and exact as you would require when making precision cuts! I haven’t done many curves yet but I have no doubt it will excel!

2017 Update – I have now down curves and it was excellent – I cut out 3 speaker holes in a 1″ thick MDF speaker box.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersi noticed that a lot of reviewers complained about the weight of the machine. They shouldn’t, this machine actually cuts a straight line more so then the old one i had. This has to be the best money i have spent on a jigsaw. i highly recommend this tool . Just one thing if you change the blade don’t point it towards yourself as the spring is powerful.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI was using a bosch jigsaw for cutting small firewood sticks etc. but found after a short time that while the jigsaw worked well, it was quite an effort to cut through hardwood/seasoned planks etc. It was obvious that the bosch, while a good ‘little’ saw, was not really suited too the
tasks I was using it for, as the blade required a lot of effort to push into the wood to cut anything. So a better tool was required.

I have several Evolution tools as it happens and have never had a problem with any of them, so I looked at the spec of several makes before buying the Evo Rage7 jigsaw. The multi-use blades decided my choice really, which will cut through steel (nails etc.) quite easily.

Also, the motor is probably the same item in all the other jigsaw’s with this power rating, with only the overall design being different. This is more common for power tools than people realise, so I have been told by my local tool hire/repair shop.

On first use, the difference between the two machines was VERY obvious. The rage7 made a nonsense of the old planks I was cutting, with no real need to push the jigsaw forward ‘into’ the wood at all. Of course, it is a much heavier machine than the Bosch I was using before, so this made the job much easier than I was expecting or was used too. The blade also wasn’t being forced back against the mechanism of the saw as it cut through the old seasoned planks. The blade also cuts metal plate, so nails in wood are no problem any more, it just cuts through them.

I have found the laser beam guide to be accurate on my example and more use than the add-on guide that comes with the saw. As a test, I cut a strip off an old piece of wood using the guide and the result was a nice wavy line. You need to use one hand to push the guide along as you cut, as the jigsaw is so heavy that I couldn’t keep the saw/guide combination going at the same rate. This means you can only have one hand on the machine while cutting (if using the guide also) which is not ideal as it is a heavy, powerful cutter and really needs two hands on it for safety in my view. This problem is due I think, too the guide being very short in length in the part that actually touches the side of the wood while it is guiding the saw.

This is why it may be best to rely on the laser beam as a guide. Otherwise a straight cut will be difficult to achieve I have found. As mentioned the saw is heavy for one handed use (I’m no weakling as it happens) but this does mean that it is very easy to use on hardwood/seasoned wood. The weight works in your favour in this instance, un-like the Bosch I was using which was too light.

This machine DOESN’T come in a plastic carry case (only a cardboard box) so you need to look on the popular auction site for one, which will be big enough to take the saw with a blade fitted as well. Otherwise remove the blade each time it is put away in the carry box.

    I found one from 3jcsales for 7.95 plus 3.95p&p.

Overall though a good machine I think and I highly recommend it if you want a “heavy” jigsaw. The planks I tested it on were over 65 years old, split with years of use and embedded with nails. Some parts of them actually defeated my (very sharp) hand axe for cutting into small firewood ‘sticks’ afterwards, such was the hardness of the seasoned planks.

When I bought my machine, it was priced at 80 so the current price of 60 is a total steal. I’m even tempted to buy a spare one at that price.
