FLIR ONE iOS | Thermal Imaging Camera for iOS, 80 x 60 Thermal Resolution (Lightning Connector)
Thermal imaging is one of the most powerful technologies ever developed to enhance human vision beyond what we see with our naked eyes. Human vision is limited to a very narrow ‘visible’ band of the electromagnetic spectrum. Infrared radiation carries radiant heat and with its longer wavelength, cannot be seen by the human eye. Almost everything around us gives off or reflects heat, which can be ‘seen’ by thermal imaging.

MSX TechnologyLike previous FLIR ONE models, the third generation includes both a visible and thermal camera. The magic happens through FLIR’s patented, multispectral dynamic imaging, or MSX technology, which embosses a visible image over a thermal. The end-result is a better, crisper image, which helps improve overall quality and readability when you need it most. With the FLIR ONE, you won’t need to guess, you’ll just know. | Thermal SuperpowersEven in complete darkness, users can visualise small temperature differences through the lens of the FLIR ONE. Whether you’re trying to determine why your room is so cold, why your wall is starting to bubble and turn awful new colours, or just trying to find where your dog is hiding in the backyard, the FLIR ONE will help you see the formerly unseen. | OneFit Adjustable ConnectorAnother advancement we’ve developed with the third generation FLIR ONE is our new OneFit adjustable height-connector. The OneFit allows you to adjust the length of the FLIR ONE connector so it can attach over most phone cases, eliminating the hassle of removing your case prior to use. The new FLIR ONE also features a USB-C version for Android, so whether you want to take a picture of an object or take a thermal selfie (a ‘thermie’), Android users can flip the camera in whichever direction they want. |

Wonderful tool for industrial/engineering use and also for paranormal investigations. Very easy to use, the iOS app is amazingly simple and works great, saving photos and videos is (literally) a snap.
Battery life is a bit short though. I wish they had put in a better Li-Ion pack. It runs dry fairly quickly.
Hands down definitely worth it. I Recommend to anyone. Camera arrived on time and product is everything you ask for.
It take time and/or many tries to connect to iPhone. But when it does, it do the job! Perfect for home use.
Got new windows in my house so bought this to check the work of the installer. The project manager was impressed with it when I showed him thermal pics of the windows and found cold spots.
Easy to use and saves pictures in your normal phone picture folder.
Very easy to hook up. Works well. Only bad thing is this feels like i am going to drop it at any time. A bit awkward at the bottom but not much could be done about that. Put a larger rubber band on to make sure it didnt drop off, youll want to protect from risky shots.
Bonne camra thermique
My steps are heat traced and I require a railing. Pinpointed exactly where I could drill into the slab!
I was able to find the rushing cold air in the wall found a water leak in the ceiling and spores the radiant floor lines.
I bought this model to check for heat loss on my house (which is over 100 years old and mostly all original). Works great for that purpose. Doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the pro model and isn’t as clear of a picture, but you pay for what you get. It’s perfect for my needs and arrived exactly on time. Even came with its own hard case. I’m pretty impressed with it, all in all, and would definitely recommend this model for basic functionality.
Does what it says on the box! Awesome for night surveillance.
Very easy to use. I took photos inside and outside my house to help prioritize insulation and window replacement projects. It has been very helpful.
Great camera at a reasonable price. Very easy to install and operate. Excellent tool for any inspector, Realtor or anyone interested in getting deeper in to your project.
Biggest pro: works great, totally satisfied from a functionality point of view.
Biggest con: Battery life leaves a lot to be desired, but at least doesn’t drain the phone.
Despite this.. the concern I still have, which didn’t occur to me til it arrived, is it needs FLIR’s Android app to work. Without that, it’s a 300 paperweight. I wish I’d bought something with some standalone firmware, that I can count on to work even if the App is canned.
EDIT: The replacement is even worse, off centre and wonky. Returning for refund. Gutted 🙁
2nd Edit: Flir technical support came back to me again and fixed the issue, not sure why the first chap couldn’t do the same.
Absolutely love what this can do, works mostly well on my Pixel 4a, I can see the hot water pipes in my walls and under my floorboards! Will try with wildlife at some point.
BUT the FLIR One has 2 cameras, one thermal and one digital, allowing it to show a real time outline of what you are looking at. Unfortunately these are not aligned well, they are about a foot out at a distance of 3 metres. I rang Teledyne, they are very helpful but agreed that this needs returning as faulty. The apps are a little flakey too, probably work better if you buy the PRO version.
BUT because I love this so much I have ordered a replacement, fingers crossed it will be better aligned. will update my feedback at a later date when the replacement arrives.
Better than I expected from some of thei negative reviews. The temperature accurate is about +/- 1 degree from the measurement of the laser thermostat. Visible hot and cold waterline behide drywalls.
The camera worked well with my I-phone and I-Pad, showing where more or better insulation was required and later to see if it had made an improvement.
It can also be used to check for poor connections on home electrical circuits and consumer units etc.
I got this for one job. It helped ease my mind on the motor heating concern. Since then, I’ve used it on several jobs and it has been an awesome tool. I travel to different companies to do maintenance on our company’s equipment. Nearly every maintenance manager that sees the results, have bought one for themselves – or their team. Think about 15 or so have been purchased by people I’ve shared this with, because the uses are endless for troubleshooting.
We bought this to evaluate heat loss in our house during Canadian winters. There are quite a few rather more expensive options but not much in this price range. The version we bought was the Lightning connector variant for iPhones. Charging is via USB-C and takes about an hour from empty to full, which curiously enough is about the same amount of time it drains when you’re using it. The higher end model has a better set of cameras than this one, but the results from this lower end model were perfectly good for our needs. It allowed us to locate heat loss areas pretty quickly and confirm whether or not any action was needed (or possible). It’s also nifty to see where hot or cold water pipes run through the house as well as to check to see if any power lines/outlets/fuse boxes are overloaded (if you can see the latter as being warmer than the surrounding area, they are) One think to keep in mind is that the display on the iphone will calibrate based on all the temperatures in range, so in one photo the blue/yellow/red differential may be dramatically wider than in others (3-4 degree range compared to say 18) which means paying attention to the actual temperature points is essential.
Good product and I’m happy we have it.
It will definitely help find cold spot to seal up home so far works flawlessly definitely nice to have in certain work situations elec/hvac/even plumber only thing don’t like is battery’s don’t last forever and fail quite often so why make a 400$ tool with a permanent battery ??
it’s a little grany but considering the price it does as expected, it can definitely be used to determine if there is cold air coming in from outside, negatives are you’re phone can’t be in a thick case cause the tab won’t be able to reach the charger port it goes into, in all I’d say it’s worth i
Either the camera is faulty or I’m well and truly heating the neighborhood and the company that did my cavity insulation 10 years ago did nowt and conned me. ( council contractor).
If the pictures are true, I’m at a total loss of where to start. Need some pro help I think.
Camera was easy to set up and use. Did not have to take case off. When I took pictures indoors could clearly see cold spots. Definitely starting with roof and working my way down. Not used the tools yet and want to see pics on PC but good camera.
I don’t need high resolution accuracy I just need to detect rodents
Does not wort with larger cases like otter box, must remove phone to use.
Although I had the right android build and right usb connection the FLIR app would not recognise my phone. Ulefone do a rugged version of my phone with a FLIR 1 camera built in,which helps confuse things. It works well on my son’s phone, a Samsung. Battery life is good. FLIR do ask you to try different things but in the end, I’m going for a refund.
The Lighting port is very weak and flimsy and will break if your not careful
This is a great tool for my RV inspection business. The only criticism I have is that the connection between the camera and the iPhone is a bit flimsy and you have to be careful to make sure it stays fully inserted. Otherwise a good buy
I have attached a new video.
As a handy person and electronics enthusiast I’m still very happy to have this camera. I can see things I could not otherwise see and that expands my abilities for maintenance, repairs, and other efforts. Plus the curiosity of seeing that a cold-blooded frog doesn’t show up and other natural science observations are great.
I have used this for:
1. Indoor ceiling to identify poor insulation locations
2. Identify within seconds if an air conditioner is working
3. See the temperature gradient in compost bin
4. See that a frog is in fact cold-blooded
5. Check the circuit breaker panel in the house
6. Look at warm footprints on the carpet
7. Identify wet spots, water evaporates in the 40s
8. Identify lost energy in ceiling light fixtures, wiring, plug adapters, paper shredders on standpipe, audio and video equipment on standby, because if it’s turned off and it shows as warm, it is consuming electricity
9. Inspect heating on electrical circuits for hobbies
[Above added 8/20/2022]
I very much appreciate that the Flir ONE properly orients the app when the phone is held upside down. It is more comfortable to hold the phone upside down.
The occasional auto calibration is a bother, but mostly would be a sticking point for video recording, the camera is just as useful with this auto calibration.
It has estimated the temperature of my hand at 102F or higher without a fever and it has estimated the temperature of frozen food (boxed food) at -2F(seems right) in my freezer side-by-side. I don’t know if I can tune that to be more accurate.
I can see where evaporative cooling is happening, immediately the warm footprints from my dog on the carpet, warm breakers or unused doorbell transformer (wasted electricity), and much more.
This review was written with less than 3 hours of use. Setup was simple.
Still not sensitive enough for what I need but very very good. I need to see the blown in or foamed in insulation in cinder blocks. I will keep testing to see if it works better through-out the change in seasons.
In addition to the FLIR One Pro, I’ve used the FLIR E5-XT, FLIR TG 165, and Seek Compact Pro all within the last several months.
My primary application is for assessing medium-sized electronics. The Seek represents a great value with high thermal resolution and captures relatively crisp thermal-domain images, but the app is of limited functionality and awful support. It’s been a great tool but desperately needs updating. I keep an old Pixel phone only so that I can continue using the Seek.
The handheld FLIR E5-XT was a decent camera, but was very expensive and offered limited functionality. Images were inferior to the inexpensive Seek. I don’t think it could capture video. It came with a nice case and seemed to be a durable unit.
The TG 165 was marginally more than a toy. The camera offered shockingly little in terms of functionality. No custom scaling could be applied to the images, and the single indicated measured temperature was not aligned with the image, making it basically useless for anything other than finding massive air leaks in residential applications.
The FLIR One Pro has been the best of all of these, independent of price. I bought an iPod Touch to dedicate to the thermal camera. The accuracy of the temperature values are not great and they do shift around during use – 5 to 10C of error between 0 and 100C is typical. This isn’t a deal breaker for me; if I need a precise reference, I can keep ice water or boiling water in the frame. The app has a fantastic amount of functionality, permitting the use of multiple manual measurement points, manual temperature range scaling, and selective use of the optical and thermal cameras. It’s great for transient measurements and has been an indispensable tool for my applications.
Following a new home purchase, I thought I’d buy the FLIR gen 3 and use my smart phone to make some measurements.
The device is easy to use. Be careful about your measurements though. For example, you will get wrong results if trying to measure the temperature of reflective surfaces (a mirror being the absolute worst case). There is an emissivity option you can tweak though. So, using an emissivity table, you can adjust that through the menu.
“Wired” empirically measured the accuracy to be +-2C (https://www.wired.com/2014/09/testing-accuracy-flir-one/).
On the attached picture, you can see that the hottest spot is at 1.1C. The exterior air temperature at that moment was -9.7C. That is a temperature delta of 10.8 degrees Celsius! Even considering the best error case, that is still an 8.8C temperature delta. I don’t know much about construction, but it seems a lot to me and I’ve reported it. The device allowed me to spot more insulation issues inside around outlets and where it aligns with exterior features such as natural gas outlet and exterior faucet.
Softwares
The softwares, FLIR ONE and FLIR Tools are pretty basic, but allows to generate predefined reports through various templates. There is also a PC program you can install on your computer, which makes it easier to work with the pictures. You need to create an account to get it (FLIR Thermal Studio Suite; free for basic version).
Sorry to say this but after buying this for work for a single video project to see what was going on with a product in IR, this has now become one of my favourite gadgets ever for having fun. Want to see where someone has just walked? No problem? Want to see if a “present” left by a dog or cat in your garden is just laid? No problem? Want to find where your chicken has vanished to (not joking, we used this to find where a chicken was roosting in the hedge, see attached image)? No problem. Want to create fun selfies? No problem. I recommend to any other gadget lover, find whatever excuse you can and get this!

Does what it says on the tin great product no problems with it so far does drain phone battery a little faster but as fast as anything would
I just received my FLIR One Pro IOS.
It was easy to setup. The app downloaded quickly and without issue. The device is basically plug and play. Records video with sound and photos directly to my i phone without issue. It would be nice if the runtime on the battery was longer, but you can’t have it all. The device will shut off after 2 minutes of nonuse, extending time of usage. I haven’t tested the accuracy against our Bollard FLIR, but for the price and size I feel that this is good product at a reasonable price point.
It was easy to get this delivered the next day rather waiting a fortnight for specialist company. Excellent outcome though my kitchen / lounge and utility room are now dug up to dehumidify for the next 4/5 weeks.

This may turn into an evolving review – This will be used for contract work. So far I’ve had zero issues using this on an iPhone X. – I’m a bit uncertain about the port connector but well see how it lasts.
Ease of use has been a 10 – Plenty of options and usability.
Accuracy – I have a number of devices for measuring temperature and so far its been +/-1-2 F which is perfectly ok.
Durability – Stay tuned
Customer Service – I’ve been reading a lot of nightmare stories but haven’t experienced it for myself just yet and hopefully wont have to.
Update: After the 4th use it started acting up. I found that using it on a job site isn’t useful as it takes forever to start up, reads slowly, and well quite frankly doesn’t always work and crashes. Durability and battery life of concern.
It does read water damages to the floor, but not to the ceiling for whatever reason.
The app could use a redesign. But other than that this little gadget saved me a packet in a dispute over insulation quality of some windows we had fitted. We could show where the heat leaks where. Brilliant!

Quality FLIR camera for the price. Does everything I’d expected for a ‘home use’ thermal camera.
It needs to be handled with care as you’d expect for a mobile plug in type camera.
We use the FLIR One Pro for building defect analysis, easy to use, fantastic quality and cos
It would be nice if the temp range was larger, but for the price I cannot complain. The battery life isn’t great, but it’s plenty for a basic job or for personal/home use. The telescoping lightning connector is a nice touch, preventing having to remove the case from the phone before use. The software works well and is easy to get.
If you’re looking for an iR cam for home use or small job use, to find insulations leaks and the like, this is a worthwhile option.
I bought the original FLIR One device when it came out a few years ago. It was great except it had a very short battery life. This new Pro model is a great improvement not just in improved battery life also but clarity and design. Making the plug adjustable so it you don’t have to remove your phone case is huge. hated having to do that with my original FLIR One. I use this for work to identify poor insulation, water leaks, wiring shorts / hot spots, etc. Works great.
I bought the flir pro for home energy audit and for use in electronics and automotive hobby projects. I compared it to the seek and flir lt and it was worth the extra cost. The sensitivity, temp range, and picture is excellent compared to the others. MSX overlay is great for sharing images (such as breaker box positions) with visual context to others. The ability to edit temp ranges, data call-outs, and image alignment on saved images is a huge positive compared to the seek unit. The flir pro occasionally disconnects from my phone and have to power cycle to reconnect. Also need to manually ensure that the power is “off” after disconnecting so you don’t come back to a dead battery next time you want to use it.
Overall, not terrible. The only complaint I have is that it won’t work on an iPhone 12 max with an otter box case. Otterbox seems to be the standard. Not sure why FLIR couldn’t get the thing to reach another 2 millimeters to connect. Taking my case off each time I need it sucks.
I had an iPhone 7plus in a Otterbox Defender case and the Flir One Pro was able to plug into the phone using the adjustable extension on the Flir One Pro. I just upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro Max with Otterbox Defender Pro XT w/ MagSafe case and the Flir does lightening jack does not extend intot he phone, the case is too thick. I had to order a lightening to lightening extension plug. Hopefully that will work.
Great item, already worked out where I have drafts coming in on the front door and the kitchen window, it’s a big outlay but it will pay for its pretty soon by letting me know where I need to seal areas prone to drafts and save on my heating bill.
I have 1 recommendation, look at the picture of my camera in its case, you will see I have cut foam away where the usbc is, this stops you having to retract the USB every time you put it back in the case, also you will see i have removed foam where the switch is, this stops the button being pressed when your putting it back in the case and the battery going flat, I’ve not charged mine for about 3 months and I use it about 2 minutes a day 5 days a week.
Ever buy one of those crappy little $20 drones that you have to charge forever only to be able to use it for like 7 minutes? Well the battery on this thing appears to be similarly lame. First off the directions for this thing absolutely suck and may as well not even exist. They tell you to charge the thing for an hour before using it which seems to imply that it will be fully charged at that point, right? Guess again! I’m still not sure exactly how long it takes to fully charge yet. Another thing is that they don’t really tell you what any of the lights on this thing actually indicate. Sometimes they’re orange, sometimes they’re green. Sometimes they flash in seemingly random rapid bursts (which usually can’t mean anything good is happening) and sometimes they’re solid. They don’t even tell you how you can tell it is fully charged. I’m assuming that happens when the green charging LED finally turns off but I don’t no for sure because they didn’t bother to mention it in the instructions!! Even those crappy little $20 drones tell you that much, albeit in broken English.
Other than that it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t mention that this thing has pretty good image quality and seems to work well but I’ll probably end up returning it because of my lack of confidence in the battery life and charging method especially after reading all the negative reviews related to how these things fail which is usually battery related. $400 may be relatively cheap for this type of product but that doesn’t make it sting any less if it only ends up working for a few weeks or months.
UPDATE: So, in fairness, it looks like the first device I got may have had a defective battery or something like that. I sent it back to Amazon for replacement and the new one provides more realistic reporting of the remaining battery life and actually charges to 100%. Thank you Amazon!!! Adjusting stars to reflect the improved experience.
I’m a big DIYer and this is a nice tool to have for checking for thermal loss. I used it to help me insulate my crawlspace and it did the job. I’m glad I went with the pro because while the picture is not as clear as I’d like (I know there are superior products for way more money), it’s at least decent compared to the reviews that I saw on YouTube for the lower end versions of this product. Nice tool to have for a DIYer who really wants to know what’s going on in their home.
Risoluzione fotocamera: 1440×1080 (tutti i modelli)
Risoluzione termocamera: 80×60 (ONE e ONE PRO LT), 160×120 (ONE PRO)
Range misurazione termperatura: -20 / +120 C (ONE e ONE PRO LT), -20 / +400 C (ONE PRO, in due range diversi settabili dall’app).
Il prezzo sale dai 250 E circa (ONE) a 310 E (PRO LT) fino a 450 E (PRO).
CONCLUSIONE
It is amazing what can be learned from looking at the small temperature differences that can be seen with this camera. It is great for looking at everything from thermal leaks and inefficiencies, water leaks and wildlife. Or just to explore the thermal world around you. Attached is a photo of a heated floor I had put in and wanted to identify where the wires where in the floor. Great resolution at a reasonable price point. The FLIR tool app gives a great way to analyze and get meaningful information about the photos taken.
As a Beekeeper this device allows me to zero in on hives in walls and ceilings. I like the thin, white lines it adds for nearby features. That is, delineation of walls, floors and ceilings, windows and other objects near the thermal image. The Flir Tools app is an added benefit as it allows you to pinpoint heat source and provide a report of the image. The report shows the thermal, as well as, a black and white image. For my job I consider it an essential tool. Not enough resolution for you as “just a blob”? Then pony up and buy a more expensive unit. I know other beekeepers with this unit and we all think highly of it.
I really like how compact this product is. It was easy to set up using the app and my iPhone. For the price, the image could be a bit clearer but you can definitely see heat disperse in areas to look out for especially for heating pipes as you can see from my house although I already had an incline where these were. I would recommend this product.
Great Thermal Imaging, using every day for my business. iPad screens make the Flir image very blurry, works the best with iPhones screens.
his is a very cool product. Haven’t used it as much as i wanted. More of a novelty. But it works. Can even see foot prints left behind
Very useful for carrying out building services inspection and building surveys. Very small size that easily fits in a pocket and when coupled to the iPhone X max provides a large image that is easily transferable to PC files for inclusion in reports and printing. Image quality not quite up to standard of IR cameras costing 3 times the price but still adequate for the purpose. The FLIR app works well on the iPhone with the FLIR PRO LT camera. Very useful, good value, recommended.
Overall not bad tool for predictive maintenance. When trying to put the crosshairs over what you are trying to get the temperature of. The reading is hard to see, depending on which mode you are using. You have to go into settings and change the C to F every time you turn it on. The App that you use to run the device, in my opinion asks for to much personal info.
This is a really cool device. Instead of a very expensive hi-res IR sensor, they combine the IR sensor with a regular camera, and overlay a wireframe of the visible light image over the IR image. The result is an affordable device for homeowners and hobbyists. This works great for testing for leaks around windows/doors. (Note that it displays relative temps, not actual ones. If you’re planning to use this to screen people for COVID-19, talk to an actual medical professional first.).
It easily found a gap in the base cabinet allowing air in from the walls, and verified a leak in a window seal that I knew about. It also shows you waste energy usage: my Xbox One shows up bright orange in standby mode, compared to my other devices.
The only downside is you have to charge it separately — it can’t draw power from the phone. (This makes sense, otherwise it would drain your phone battery really fast.)

They work really well and what is best you can easily send the footage straight from your phone to the relevant person.
This gadget has helped solve a longstanding issue with out cold kitchen. It really helps to find cold spots. The app is fully featured and easy to use, no issues on a pixel 3a. The battery life is short but plenty for my needs. I probable could have used the lower res lite model the key benefit is *locating* hot/cold spots so resolution does not need to be high.
I had a tough time deciding on whether to spend the extra money to buy the higher priced version. Glad I didn’t because the quality of the image was good enough on the cheaper one. I guess if you are in the construction/Handyman business, you may benefit from a higher resolution. I only wanted it to find hot/cold spots in the walls and ceiling to see if my new home had any missing insulation or excessive draft areas. Was able to find several issues that were fairly easy to correct and eliminated the draft or cold/hot spot.
As a side benefit, I learned that the area around base moulding on walls that back to the exterior have near zero insulation and cause more cold air to seep into a room then windows! The coldest areas of my house are along the base moulding. Makes sense I guess since there is nothing but wood around that area and no room for insulation. Now if someone would just invent insulated, detachable base moulding covers that I can attach during the winter, I could eliminate the cold floors…
I didn’t know if I should get a handheld one or one for the phone. glad I chose this.
I have used it to detect potential damp spots, missing insulation in the loft, radiator efficiency too
Highly recommended
For the price, this is a neat little tool. It does run through its battery pretty fast (under an hour). but it also charges pretty fast. I use it with my iPad, to get a bigger image. It’s hard to gauge accuracy, for instance is that surface really at 75 degrees? What one should realize is the precision is on the low side. I don’t think it can tell if surfaces are one or two degrees different. In my work as an architect, that’s not a problem. I can see thermal bridges at studs with this tool. It takes a tool costing several thousand dollars to get to one-degree precision.
For the price this thermal imager works pretty good. On the down side the user interface needs some work. It often won’t respond to settings and controls properly. In particular the “lock Range” command even when doing that it tends to change it’s thermal range making it very difficult to compare thermal characteristics of different items. This is very important when doing thermal imaging. When trying to work with the settings it has a tendency to do what it wants to do and not what you are clicking on to instruct it to do. It can be very frustrating at times trying to see thermal anomalies.
Haven’t used this much yet, but at first glance it looks like a very good value. I used to be an energy auditor and had a professional grade IR camera. Sold it and really miss it, so I decided to try one of these. I just need to be able to check for active water leaks and cold air leaks in my own home and a pair of rentals, so couldn’t justify a more expensive unit. The clarity of the IR portion of the image is a bit disappointing (recalling the pro gear I used) but the mixed mode image with visible light borders saves the day. I think this will be adequate for my needs. BTW, seems like a nicely made product – even has a connector height adjustment to compensate for phone case thickness! Flir Tools app is available for IOS, but apparently not for a Mac. Would have been nice…
The FLIR ONE PRO LT for IOS has got to be one of my best investments. It has saved time and money in both looking for problem spots as far as insulating is concerned and for looking for a leak on one of my central heating pipes, I have used it over and over and helped out friends with this little gem. It is brutal as far as the battery is concerned, so you have a limited amount of time to get what you need done and the charge rate is slow, so I recommend you look into how to operate it for the use you require it for, before you charge around looking at everything from the family cat to looking at walls bemused why it all looks yellow, it is crucial that you go to the website and learn how to use this but once you the hang of looking at the temperature differential, you will easily be able to find leaks, spot wiring problems and fix drafty roofs and doors.

After reviewing the many “gun” type infra red cameras with their high prices and tiny screens, I decided to buy the standard (not Pro) Flir for Android unit. I had read of incompatibilities with my oneplus 6 phone but decided to risk it.
The unit arrived incredibly promptly (I live in Jersey where Amazon prime has historically not been great). I followed instructions and initially my phone did not detect the unit. A quick glance at Flir’s help site suggested ensuring OTG is enabled (in phone’s system settings) and it worked perfectly immediately. I then explored my house with the heating on in order to map the underfloor pipes. After allowing the heating to run for an hour, all the pipes could be seen highlighted on my phone’s large screen. The subtle blending of visual and infra red images really helped and using it after switching off all the lights (at night) gave another helpful perspective. This is not a device for producing pin sharp hi res photos in the infra red spectrum, but the images (and videos!) give enough detail to identify pipes and other objects quite clearly. Video is very helpful in orientating oneself in the house as it can be hard to tell exactly where individual images were taken, without taking notes, after the event.
The instructions should make it clearer that the unit charges it’s internal battery from a separate (not supplied) charger, NOT from the phone.
Very pleased with the unit which is well made and can have so many uses looking for hot spots. Even photographing cats in the dark is fun!
I wasn’t sure whether to pay significantly more for the PRO version given the very low resolution of this basic model. I decided to risk it and am happy to say that the resolution is more than adequate for most domestic applications. In my case I needed to identify the exact location of underfloor heating pipes. The secret of this camera is that the normal view is overlaid onto the thermal image which thereby provides a very clear image even at a distance of 5 to 6 feet.

Unit is nice and compact and once the Fair App is downloaded, very easy to use.
I like the fact that it overlays the thermal image with a visible outline (MSX as referred to by FLIR) giving easier to identify images. Battery last approx 30 minutes and charges very quickly. Currently using the camera to identify cold spots and blockages to the central heating system of which it is perfectly sufficient. I had previously borrowed a Flir camera from work that costs well over 5x the price of this, admittedly the thermal detail isn’t as accurate but for my purpose this is a perfectly sufficient camera and a great tool to add to any homeowners tool box.

I’ve had the previous version with a quarter resolution and that was great, I used it from everything to check whether drone components were overheating, and ditto for batteries, and general house efficiency. This new version is way better, just wish the price could be cheaper.
Very impressed with this and it has proved very useful in looking for hear efficiency issue round the house. Would have given 5 stars but have struggled to get access to some of the third party apps that are recommended from the FLIR app; unless you have US iTunes account.

Has own power supply so you need to turn it ON when you plug it in and wait a few seconds for an image to come onto the screen. Be patient. Refresh rate seems slow but that’s the case with all thermal cameras costing less than 20,000! Image quality and ease of use make this a great bit of kit. It is essentially the same sensor and features as the FLIR E6 which is a 2000 camera. Make sure you download the FLIR ONE app and the FLIR Tools app. The latter does some post processing and let’s you generate a range of different PDF reports that you can email straight from the app!!! The attached image is showing rainwater penetration through the outside wall of a Victorian house (defective rainwater pipe). Brilliant for building diagnostics.
So far I am very impressed with this product. I did my research before as it was an expensive purchase and I am glad I went with this one. I have used other thermal cameras in the past and have not been impressed but the quality of the images on this unit is very impressive. I think the stand out feature is the face it blends a actual picture with a thermal image so you keep the importance information like labeling on a fuse board. I am impressed by the accuracy of the temperature and the fact you can make changes to the image after the photo has been taken allowing you today choose the best colour setting or move the temperature point.
It’s expensive bit of kit but when you compare it to the equivalent spec camera it’s actually quite cheap. For this kind of price you wouldn’t be getting very good images.
I have highy expect this will be getting lots of uses at work been an electrician both diagnosis of faults and when doing electrical safety checks and will make use stand out from the others not using this technology.
Also a nice added point is the USB c connection is extendable so it fits on even with my large case something I was concerned about before purchasing.
Amazingly easy to use.
Battery failed after a year due to know faults. Used maybe 20 times now worthless 18minths late
I bought the FLIR one Pro after wanting a thermal imaging camera for work for some time. For the price compared to the all in one thermal imagers, it has exceeded my expectations. It paid for itself after the first use. It, next to my smart phone is the most useful piece of kit I’ve purchased.
Our main likes and dislikes were:
1. The Flir camera: we thought it was a fantastic and compact little tool if you don’t need much resolution for the job to hand.
2. The Flir app. Not much in the way of instructions, and although the hardware is hardy, plug in and play . . . very straightforward, we would have benefitted from a Quickstart guide that covered how to get the most out of the camera screen. Most people would be able to work it out as there is a Help guide on the app: we didn’t bother because Flir’s resolution wasn’t fit for our purposes. There is a torch/flash on the Flir app. When we were downloading the Flir app (which had a 1star rating), we also downloaded a couple of other compatible apps that had 4-5star ratings that were also advertised on the Flir app. We gave ourselves 2 minutes per app to figure them out and couldn’t do it: they may be out of date.
3. How it works with an iPhone. So the camera can be attached to the phone to face either direction which is great. We had to remove the case for it to fit our iPhone . . . and the phone felt VERY vulnerable in the locations we wanted to use it. Obviously you could buy a new phone case that is compatible with Flir. The other thing was that photos taken using the Flir camera button did not capture ALL the information (e.g. the temperature gradient) on the screen at the time so we ended up doing screen shots using the iPhone home and on/off button. This was actually quite tricky as you had to make sure your hand did not block the Flir, or that you didn’t click the phone into the lock screen (happened a lot). The Flir itself is robust: we wouldn’t recommend changing how it attaches to the iPhone.
Despite the issues, we were impressed with the fact that you could do this kind of thing with a mere phone. Maybe a future version with more resolution would suit us: at the moment though, we have decided to splurge on a full handheld unit with a higher resolution.
In the end we decided to splurge a bit more on a more powerful non-phone version and so sent this for refund.
I have the iOS version of the FLIR One Pro. It works well as does the software. Please ensure you read reviews for the product you are interested in buying – I think the iOS version is stable and offers lots of neat functionality.
There’s not enough info with the unit though. Initial registration was straightforward and didn’t feel like the bind other users report. I plugged the One in to charge. The charge light glued green when fully charged, flashes before that.
I liked that FLIR Tools now has a version on iOS, so I don’t need to transfer images to my PC before analysis. Great to analyse afterwards to discern temperature. So far I haven’t found out how to lock the scale – on some of my pics, the scene looks like there’s lots of variability (lots of colour) but in fact there are only 1 or 2 degrees between specific spots. Sometimes it would be better to have only the big changes shown.
But overall a great product. So glad I read the iOS reviews before buying this – I had considered I’d need to get a C3, have saved 200 by not needing to do that!
Excellent product – packs some incredible technology into a tiny package that attaches neatly to an iPhone. I used the latest version of the app and didn’t have any software problems. I note some critiques from other reviewers but i cut the Flir a bit of slack as this gadget is doing domething incredible for the price and provides a service that is transformative if you are tracking down buliding or DIY problems. The roll-out connector is very good for connecting to a phone with a chuncky case.

I got this to try and identify the cold spots in my living room and it proved to be worth the money already. It showed me that I had an air vent covered over but not sealed behind it so it was really cold in that corner and also showed my radiators where not fully heating due to being full of sludge. Sorted both and since much more comfortable in the room.

Great product. Have used it to find all the cold air coming into my house. Will pay for itself in two months with the savings on my heating bill.
