The Story of Hotel Chocolat
Tree to Bar
Hotel Chocolat was founded in 2004 to make people happy. Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris built it on three unwavering pillars: authenticity, originality and ethics. One of the few chocolate makers to directly grow some of their own cacao, on their eco-conscious cacao farm in the grounds of their Saint Lucia hotel (yes, you can stay there too), they connect the world of sustainable cacao agriculture with the hedonism of top-quality chocolate. This makes them unique in the UK, and gives them an unrivalled understanding of what impacts the taste of their chocolate, right from the growing tree.
In 2006 they bought the 275-year-old Rabot Estate cacao farm in Saint Lucia, now home to the boutique Rabot Hotel. For over a decade they’ve been directly growing some of their own cacao on their organic estate, humbly learning the intricacies of every stage of the bean’s growth and the development of its flavours – from tree to bar – so that they can create chocolate with the best possible taste. In this way, and by working with cacao farmers around the world through their Engaged Ethics programme, they proudly connect the world of sustainable cacao agriculture with the hedonism of luxury chocolate.

Bought as a Xmas present for my wife and she loves it. Simple to use and clean. The samples it comes with are delicious especially the salted caramel The cups are good quality too. Highly recommend

Dithered for the past couple of years buying one.
Eventually caved in and bought one.
Used to use Cadbury’s hot chocolate (prob like most other people) and decided to upgrade.
Have no regrets – makes great hot chocolate – and you get different flavours.
This is like going from freeze dried instant coffee (which tastes like volcanic ash to me) to proper filter coffee – you can’t go back!
Once you try HC made in the Velvetiser you’ll realise you can’t go back to the old stuff.
Favourite flavours are the 70% HC (not too dark and not too milky), caramel and the mint.
If you’re lucky enough to have a Hotel Chocolat store beside you (mine is 10 mins away) I look out for packs with 50% off as the sale by date is the current month.
All in all this is a great buy and would make a perfect gift.

I do like a hot chocolate on an evening and after much deliberation, because of price, took the plunge and bought one. I suppose it is a luxury purchase but in my view worth every penny. The unit itself is well made and feels a quality item when you handle it, but the main reason I like it so much is the quality of the hot chocolate. Don’t be fooled that this just makes regular hot chocolate that you can make in a pan, it doesn’t. The quality of the drink is second to none, it simply makes a hot chocolate at home that I have never been able to achieve. They call it a Velvetiser for a reason, it really is as smooth as velvet and tastes so luxurious. There is a great range of flavours, something for everyone and if like me you like hot chocolate you will not be disappointed. Just buy one and treat yourself.

I debated whether to treat myself to a Hotel Chocolat Velvetizer but I am so glad I did. It is a great bit of kit. It is ideal for an older person as it so simple to use, easy to clean and makes an indulgent, nourishing hot drink in a couple of minutes. As a bonus it actually comes with easy to follow instructions.

Better than I was expecting
My family (except myself) are big hot chocolate fans – especially my eldest son, and we seem to spend a small fortunate on takeaway hot chocolates. My wife especially, loves the black forrest. We had been toying with buying one for a few years but could never really bite on the bullet on the 110 it costs. But came across it on amazon, and was a pack that included the taster sachets and the porcelain mugs and could pay 22 over 5 months so seemed silly not to try it.
The hot chocolates from this machine are delicious. Just the right temperature to drink immediately and it really is silky and like velvet. Using the Hotel Chocolat sachets is fairy expensive (thought much cheaper than costa) but we actually only use half sachets for each as we bought a full sachet a little rich for our tastes. We have also bought just chocolate bars, like cadburys or Aero, grated them up and they work great too. You just need the full 35g worth as they aren’t concentrated like the HC official sachets.
I don’t really drink hot chocolate but I have been using this with Costa coffee powder from the supermarket and this makes a cracking at home silky brew.
Bought another one for my mother in law and she loves it too.
So it is fairly expensive what what is effectively a milk frother but however it works it doesn’t make a difference and is you love hot chocolate and spend a lot of money on takeaways then this is worth a go and will pay for itself in the end.

Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. The machine was very simple to use but did come with easy to follow instructions. It was very quick and made the smoothest, velvety hot chocolate I have tasted. It came packaged with hot chocolate sachet’s and 2 beakers. Very very happy with this purchase.
