Best Robot I've ever owned.
I bought the iRobot to take care of our downstairs rooms which get covered with dog hair. It’s a fantastic machine that tackles the task extremely well. It’s also a sourse of great amusement for our Granddaughter. Well worth buying. Highly recommended.
Not a gimmick
I thought these robots are a gimmick and thought I still have to hoover after. But no! I have not yet hoovered for months, my shark hoover been in the garage gathering dust. This Roomba is amazing, the dual brush works wonders on carpets.
The only problem was the filter, there’s better third party ones you can buy on Amazon.
Totally Gobsmacked!
We couldn’t believe the power and performance of our iRobot Romba 360! Absolutely magnificent! We thought that we had clean and well hoovered carpets until we set this machine on them! We certainly recommend this product!
Not grea
Didnt work as well as we expected
Sent back for refund
Better than xiaomi
I used xiaomi before, it was good but was not enough to clean small pieces. I robot is the best in this industry.
Best invention ever created!!
I can honestly say this is the best thing I have ever purchased!
I have renamed it Roberto and there is nothing he won’t Hoover- carpets, doormats, Lino and wooden floor you name it and Roberto will do it!!
He is controlled by the app and you can set cleaning schedules to suit you. I have also set it so he knows when I leave the house and he will clean while I am out.
I am currently working from home, and with it being the 6 weeks holidays and having 2 feral children at home this could not have come at a better time!
So if your thinking about buying one.. do it!! You won’t be disappointed!!
Amazing
Just wish I’d bought this ages ago. A really great product from Roomba.
I Love my iroomba. - nothing to faul
I love my iroomba. Cannot say anything more it’s amazing. No more sand or dog hairs and it all takes place while I am asleep.
Amazing technology and efficiency. After running it 6 days a week fir a month I am still
In awe!
Totally worth i
This is my second roomba (I had the first one for about 6 years) and for sure this is an upgrade. It does what is supposed to do an management the roomba with the app is si easy and convenient.
Totally worth it.
Thanks

Life change
Forget about your old vacuum cleaner! Only slight issue, if you have a lot of furniture, you need to clear the room before operating it.
Best little home helper.
Great little machine, what a time saver and just so easy to use.
Roomba vacuum cleane
Haven’t used all the features yet but it is quiet in use and seems thorough.
Set it up, leave it alone
My roomba is integrated to my home assistant installation, however this is just another way of controlling/scheduling, somewhat more powerful than the default app.
The roomba itself works well, picks up dust, leaves carpet that looks like it has been hoovered. Whilst not as strong as a manual hoover, the benefit is little and often (i.e. daily). It can run when you’re not at home, meaning the house is clean for your return.
It holds a fair amount and once the regular cleaning begins, the bin can hold a few days worth of hoovering.
Wayfinding is good, it rolls towards the top of the stairs at speed, but always stops, it gently bumps in to edges to find the perimeter of its cleaning areas and does a good edge clean with the side brush.
Would recommend.
Awesome
Absolutely amazing house helper, now I can’t imagine my life without it. Highly recommended.
Great performance, easy to setup
How did I go this long without one. A self contest gadget freak, this does exactly what’s expected. Good suction, gets up all the cat hair, have mainly hard floors but works well on the rugs too, gets up and down 15mm steps into other rooms no problem, never get the notification to empty but other than that very happy.
Overall good, but...
Overall good product, but do not buy if you have costly furniture: it does bump into them very hard before to turn the other way. I was hoping for a sensor to avoid hitting into stuff so hard.
Boris is brilliant!
Whilst waiting for our new Roomba to charge, we immediately named it Boris – couldn’t resist!
Introducing Boris to Alexa was really easy and only took a couple of minutes to set up. Now when we need the floors cleaning, we either let Alexa give him his instructions, or we use the iRobot app, or we simply press his buttons!
It couldn’t be easier and there are no difficult instructions to follow.
We use Boris downstairs to clean a kitchen, two rooms and a hallway; upstairs he cleans three bedrooms, a bathroom and a landing.
Our flooring is 80% vinyl 20% carpet and he handles everything perfectly and without complaint. It took him three to four goes to work out the best pattern of cleaning but he gets cleverer (and a little faster) each go.
When he’s on the ground floor, he returns to his charger when the clean is finished; upstairs he stops when he’s done and gives a beep to let you know he needs feeding again!
He’s very easy to keep clean and emptying his bin is a ‘doddle’ and he’s much more efficient than I expected him to be!
When we first discussed getting a robot cleaner I have to say I was very sceptical, however what a great decision it’s been. We researched many different brands and decided on the Roomba.
Boris is extremely efficient, well behaved, surprisingly quick to re-charge and hasn’t yet run out of energy on a clean. And when he’s done he quietly goes back to his charger and shuts down.
Really pleased with this purchase! 5*
I bought this irobot and liked it so much that I sent it back!! Let me explain. I had never had a robot cleaner before but, having bought it on a whim as an Amazon Treasure Truck deal, this product totally converted and convinced me. It’s absolutely brilliant: cleans so very thoroughly and can be scheduled via Alexa / Google or your phone to run at a chosen time and on a chosen day. So why did I send it back then? Because I loved it so much that I decided to buy the partner irobot Brava M6 Mop and wanted the linked ability of running the vacuum then it initiating the mop to run right after & the e5 can’t do that so I upgraded for the irobot i7+. I’d also say that, for me, the smart mapping is important where the robots learn the layout of your rooms rather than just navigate by feel / camera each time. That said, the e5 is a great machine and will certainly make your life easier and cleaner. I find I run a robot far more often than I personally would ever have cleaned! It’s also very addictive and satisfying watching it work whilst I laze on the sofa….100%recommended
You’ll never go back!
100% happy with this – can’t imagine ever having to vacuum again! Floors are always spotless and the scheduling of vacuuming is a brilliant feature
I love my Romba vacuum
What an amazing little piece of equipment, I just love it. Yes it takes ages to vacuum a room and you could do it much quicker with a traditional style vacuum, but that’s just not the point! You can go in the shower, cook the dinner, do the garden etc and by the time you finish, it’s vacuumed a whole room or area of your choice very thoroughly, much better than I normally do it. The suction for such a small vacuum is brilliant, it picks up pet hair, dust and dirt easily. I use mine everyday and highly recommend this item for busy people that love a clean house. It even comes with a gadget that can stop the Vacuum going out of the room even if the door is open or away from an area you don’t want it to go, like amongst pet bowls etc. It’s brilliant!
Really great.
This works really well in a house with 3 kids, 2 dogs and some dark grey carpets. Brilliant!
Brillia
Just let it run while going out and come back to a clean floor and it parks itself back on the charging statio
Overall, a good purchase
Even though this little fellah has only made it back to home base on its own once out of 30-40 outings, I still like it. It’s so easy to set up and use and there is a certain satisfaction in watching it scuttle round whilst you watch tv. Not great at picking up all the cat hairs so you’ll still need to do an old style vacuum once every few weeks, but on the whole this little beastie performs pretty well.
The included accessory which can keep Roomba away from difficult areas (plenty of those in my cluttered awkwardly shaped house) works well, if I can remember where I left it!
And emptying the smallish collection compartment is easy to do, too.
The most annoying thing is the constant nagging from the app to give them feedback. So I only gave them a 2 on there!
Bought for parents, they havent looked back
Great device, easy enough to set up, does thorough cleaning job, easy to use, manages to cope with whole floors in the house, minor inclines and slight ramps into different rooms. They haven’t looked back, they don’t use any of their other vacuums much anymore.
Pet must have
Really pleased with this. I have two dogs I use it three times a day. It picks all the hair up. You do need to clean it to keep it in good use.
A must have with dogs. I also have a shark for corners.
Good but a bit daf
This is the second robot vacuum cleaner I have owned, the first being an LG Hombot and there are both good and bad points in comparison to my last one.
The good points;
– it has good suction and copes well with the dog and cat hairs. I have 2 large very hairy German shepherds and 3 cats which is why I bought it. That means a lot of mud in the winter. I also have pets in the garden and the mess eg pet bedding always seems to find it’s way into the house the Roomba copes well will all of this.
– it’s easy to maintain, the filters are easy to clean and replace and the rollers are easy to clean.
– because it’s round it turns around in tight spaces. My Hombot was square and got stuck more often but it got into the corners better.
– it seems very robust I’ve had it 6 months and it’s vacuumed every day without any major problems. And in my house that is a lot of pet hairs and dirt.
Could do better;
-the bin is awkward to pull out and if it is full it makes a mess on the floor as you do so. The Hombot had the bin on top so you lifted it out which was much easier and less messy.
-if it gets stuck and you have to restart it it seems to forget where it’s already been and start again, or it will go straight back to where it got stuck and get stuck again.
– it does not seem to have a predictable or logical route, it will do half a room then go and do another then come back and carry on where it left off. which seems a bit ludicrous and is very annoying when I am trying to keep the dogs out of it’s way.
– it’s a bit of a shame it doesn’t learn the places to avoid but perhaps you need a more expensive model for that feature.
– when you send it back to the base it often doesn’t make it.
– when the battery is low it often seems to keep going until it’s flat rather than going back to recharge.
Despite the ‘could do betters’ (which are annoying but don’t detract from the overall performance) it does the job well and I wouldn’t be without it. My house looks so much better for having a thorough vacuum every morning before I even get up!.
Great product!
I had been thinking about buying a robot vacuum for a while and I did a lot of research, comparing different makes and models. In the end I opted for the E5154. I am so happy with this vacuum. It’s so easy to set up and very easy to use. Emptying the dust bin is simple and it’s really great being able to fully wash the dust bin (minus the filter). I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone thinking of making a purchase.
obot vaccum
it’s a great product but often gets stuck on my rug and have to pick it up and move it which is very annoying. Does a good job of cleaning but always has trouble of finding the home base. Using the app which really has limited options to use. You can select 15 mins, 30 mins, 45 mins. I have put it on 15 minutes cleaning, but after 15 minutes often takes another 10 minutes to go back to the home base while carrying on cleaning and going in the wrong direction.
Would be better if the App allows you to control it and guide it home but it doesn’t.
I thought the app would actually show map of each room so you can program it where not to go but it doesn’t.
App is very basic.
Still very handy to have, little noise on wooden floors but normally I turn it on when I pop out and let it to it’s job.
Highly recommend
Great for carpet, and hard floor, highly recommend. Eventually it is not able to find the home base and run out of battery in the middle of the room, and ask you to put roomba back to the charging area, but that is the only thing and it just happens sometimes , otherwise really happy with this item. Clean well, it hoovers all the surface.
Game change
My roomba is my new best friend. We have 2 cats and doors that lead almost straight into the living room so we get a lot of dirt and dust coming in. Roberta just does her thing daily without quibble and the floors have never been cleaner. Got an issue with the app but I’ve not really tried to sort that out yet. Its probably a WiFi thing.
Very efficie
Cleans vv well, but seems to go over the same places again and again even if you only have one pass on your settings
Very impressed and 5 stars from our cats!!!
To be honest I was a bit skeptical the Roomba would be able to deal with the cat hair in the rugs. I have been pleasantly surprised at how much it picks up. After doing the equivalent of toddler proofing the floors (fairy light wires etc) it has coped exceedingly well. An unexpected bonus is the box has become the go to space for one of our cats.
Excellent for dust and fluff but misses larger pieces
I absolutely hate vacuuming, mainly because of the noise but also just in general. This is Excellent in terms of the amount of fluff and dust it picked up, we’d vacuumed the previous day and it was full after 30 minutes. It does seem to miss some of the bigger pieces on the floor which is the only reason I didn’t give it a 5.
It’s a hell of a lot quieter than a normal vacuum and on that basis and the sheer amount of fluff and dust it picked up that my normal cleaner didn’t I’m happy.
I pondered the purchase of a robot vacuum for a long time, thinking it’d be a gimmick at best. Decided to go for the market leader and hope for the best.
I’m very impressed, Roomba finds corners and bits under furniture that frankly I tend to miss and with two messy kids, coming down in the morning to a clean floor is worth every penny spent.
Depending on the level of mess, he cleans a 25sqM kitchen and living room floor in 30-40 minutes, and finds his way back to the charger with half a charge or more to spare. He’s only got stuck once, on a cable that was accidentally left on the floor, but in unsolvable situations he just gives up and pops a message on my phone.
The dirt detector I thought was going to be a gimmick, but actually if you look at the reports after the clean it seems totally accurate, always finding the most mess near the kitchen bin or near entrances, or trapped in our rug. Watching him carefully circle the base of the Christmas tree when we set it up and pick up every dropped needle was almost worth the purchase price alone. The 971 isn’t even top of the range in terms of intelligence, but it’s amazing how well he works.
He jumps on and off our fluffy rug with ease and even manages to get onto the recessed back door mat. In terms of suction he is no Dyson but actually picks up things from hard and soft floors alike as well as my cordless vax.
Once a week we pop him on the upper floors where he does equally well, If you start him off away from the charging station he just finishes up where he started. So aside from anyone making a total mess, that’s the vacuuming done for a 3-story house aside from the stairs.
Build quality is super impressive, and with two long haired girls in the household I was thankful to see the rollers not pick up loads of hair (and if they did then they are super easy to remove and clear). I’m an engineer at heart, and it pleases me to see that iRobot still support the very first versions from 20 years ago, so that’s massively reassuring when rollers and brushes or batteries do wear out.
In summary, if you think Roomba is going to be more hassle than it’s worth then stop worrying. This is a quality product obviously designed by a rare company that’s still led by engineering. I’ll make it even more clear….if Apple made robot vacuums, they’d buy iRobot.
One little tip, the bin full sensors do need a little wipe over when you empty the bin, forget to do this, and it’s likely you’ll get the bin full light on very quickly. Wipe the sides and the tops of the two square bits on the lid you open to empty the bin each time and all will be well. It’s a small bin but Roomba is designed to operate little and often, I find he can manage about 3 cleans of that 25sqM floorspace before needing to be emptied, but the first time you use him in a room expect him to find a lot more and fill up quickly.
My little iRobot does very good job!
It works so well and so nice to see the job report when its finish.
Surprisingly good at navigatio
Navigation is great and the mapping function worked well after 1 factory reset! Better than expected results for the price! Just a tad bit noisy for zoom calls but not as loud as my regular shark vacuum.
Wonderful addition to the house!
I am so impressed with this hoover (R971). I was skeptical but thought I would give it a go as we have a busy house a small child and a house rabbit. Both working full time means we don’t have time to hoover every day so I brought this with the intention of using an upright vacuum once a week and this to do a daily hoover.
Set up was very straight forward and I managed to link it to alexa without any issues. The hoover was gentle as it went around the house, nudging into things gently to learn boundaries. The clean was good, around the edge of rugs it struggled but thats fair enough as I would normally lift the rugs myself and that is beyond the capability of this hoover. Is it as good as an upright……no not quite but it does a very good job, its not too noisy, a bit more noisy on hard floor than carpet but thats to be expected.
I was very impressed with how it found its way around the house and didn’t get stuck, it also found its way back to its docking station with no issues at all.
Overall an excellent hoover and I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase one again!
Brillia
I treated myself to an upgrade. As the old roomba was probably one of the first. It still works so it has retired upstairs where there is less to cope with.
The upgrade:
I am impressed. The new rubber brushes seem to work really well on our luxury clock vinyl. It also copes well with tiles and door mats (internal)
The set up was easy enough and an app guides you trough well. To integrate alexa you need to do it from alexa app. I have not yet tested it tho.
It has a camera which then produces a map of hoovered places.
Only think I wish it had was a handle like the old one. That comes handy when they grow old and battery doesn’t last long enough for it to return home. I am hoping replacing spare parts will be as easy as the old one which we replaced few parts to keep it 6 years.
We use ours daily as we have a dog, so we knew already that they are worth their money.
Oh another thing, this one is much quieter so thats most definitely another thumbs
As our dog gets taken out with a dogwalker i always come home to messy floor, so the fact i was able to schedule cleans while I am at work is great!
From the 1st roomba we know that their after sales support is great. They were very helpful when things went wrong with the first one, so I have purchased the upgrade with confidence.
It does the job very well.
I was looking for a vacuum cleaner for carpests. This is the one . Fly over them , no problem at all , rarely get stuck a lot of option for cleaning. This is first one i have . The app on the phone sometime is not working, but you can start it manual mode. Works with Alexa also , easy to set up . We name it Carlito :))))))) (kids did actualy ) . We love it . Very pleased with purchase.
Amazing where they find the di
I thought I had a clean floor – until this robot started moving around every day. It is easy to setup, keeps a tiled floor perfectly clean with a daily run! I used to use a sweeping brush – wish I had bought one before now.
A fantastic and effective labour saving device! My wife and I keep a clean house and were somewhat embarrassed by how much our little Roomba R971 picked up. Sure, it can’t get right into some of the corners, but it more than makes up for that in the sheer reduction of the labour. The first two times we used it, the bin kept filling up several times during the cleaning cycle, but after that, we’ve let it do its rounds every second day and it generally doesn’t need emptying mid cycle. It’s wonderful that it doesn’t get tired or bored of cleaning! We will never be without one ever again.
I stayed with a friend and couldnt believe she had one because I didn’t think it would work very well. I was so impressed I ordered one as soon as I got home. I walk into the house after Ive left her on and it feels spotless. She is so thorough and definitely vacuums better than me ! One of the best purchases I’ve made. I havent paired it with Alexa because to be honest it isn’t the hardest thing to do to set it off and leave the house while you’re out.
Fabulous! I love it!
Robbie has just joined our wonderful iRobot family, he has just cleaned the whole of the downstairs in my mucky old farmhouse: lounge, kitchen, passageway, porch, and returned to his base for a well earned rest. His eight year old predecessor has moved upstairs to replace an even older model that is being retired because he has a brush bar that makes him unsuitable for a house with moulting pets. I absolutely love my robots! x
Roomba great for cleaning up remotely.
IRobot Roomba E5154. Perfect for pet owners. Easy to set up and I was surprised how well this robot actually performs. Both my dogs were not bothered by the noise or by a strange alien device buzzing around their paws. Wooden floors, ceramic tiles, carpets and rugs are no problem for this model. The only negative points are that it does not always automatically find its way back to its charging base home and once it got stuck under a desk. The app works well and I’m delighted with the results. It is not the same as a dedicated vacuum cleaner such as a Shark but for ease and to quickly clean up whilst away or out for a dog walk its perfect. Highly recommended.
Does what it was designed to do
We have a German Shepherd so hair is always a problem. This little thing zips around and cleans very well. Only small issue is sometimes it fails to make its way home. It just spins around beside the base. Im putting that down to where we have the stop sensor at the door. It has a problem with rugs. It just bounces off them and goes round them rather than cleaning them. But for what it is and does Im very pleased with it.
Greate
It works well in carpet and wooden floor
The only perk is the battery which does not seem to last 75 mins as per the advert
Otherwise it would be a 5/5
save time for me
I don’t have to worry now about hoovering. it goes every corner to clean too, can set this up to clean when I am not in. too, so I am not in the way of it. I am sure it don’t like me around while cleaning… Lol!
Very surprised
Overall I am very happy with this product. The cleaning power is great and it cleans our 1200 square foot house in 40 mins and on one charge. I recommend getting a model with a camera like this one as ones without just randomly bump into everything until they’ve covered edge to edge so very inefficient and take longer.
Pros:
– has good suction
– does a great clean purely due to its interlocking rollers. It digs up dirt, literally. I found out that’s a patented designs which means you only get it in roomba
– it is methodical due to its camera
Cons:
– very small bin and no compacting so a few fluff set off the sensor but you can set the settings to carry on cleaning after bin is full
– the app always shows the battery as only part charged
I had one of the early days Roombas when I lived alone in a flat and worked in an office all day. I loved him so much but over several moves and life changes he was retired in favour of a human cleaner. More recently, I find myself in a family home with 3 dogs and 2 other humans, no time to spare and a black tile kitchen floor that drives me mad with furballs and mud. Remembering just how much I loved my original “roombie” I wondered if once more a little robot help was needed. I am so glad I did for roombie and I have fallen in love again.
So, the questions you have might be similar to the questions I had:
1) Does it really vacuum?
Yes, it really does. When I first had a Roomba it was more of a lightweight and I didn’t think it was suitable for the kind of person who regularly threw dirt about their homes. Since then I have BECOME the kind of person who does this — at least, I have become the kind of person who regularly comes in with muddy dog walking boots and a muddy dog. Fortunately, the newer models of Roomba have been eating their spinach and now pack the punch to deal with this level of mess. The suction might not be as great as with some of the heavy duty manual vacuums but the fact that Roomba is so thorough and methodical about the way he cleans means he can be relied upon to pick up dust, dirt and dog hair even after I’ve manually vacuumed on full power. The presentation of “look at all this dirt the Roomba got!” has become a nightly highlight in this house.
2) Can it cope with dog hair?
I present to you 2 Jack Russells and a hairy Springer Spaniel. This Roomba is coping with them all just fine and my house hasn’t been so consistently dog hair free since I moved in. With this level of dog shedding, you really do need daily (sometimes twice daily) clean-ups and who among us has the time or enthusiasm for that? Not me. Fortunately, Roombie loves to clean and plays a happy little tune whenever he sets off. He’s also willing to clean as many times as my whim dictates. The added bonus of this is that the allergy sufferers among us have seen a reduction in symptoms since the more diligent robot cleaner arrived.
3) Do the dogs mind it?
I expected barking. I got none. I was a little disappointed if I am honest, but the same dogs that bark at doorbells and rubbish lorries and just about anything else, barely acknowledge Roombie. (Though they have all learned quickly to get out of his way because his manners when tapping their legs leave a little to be desired.)
4) Does it get stuck?
Not yet. This Roomba is smarter than ever before and figures his way back out of the tightest of jams. He also now comes with great ways to find out where he is using an app.
5) What about cables etc?
Every review I read prior to buying Roomba said I would need to move these out of the way. They were all wrong. Yes, cables are a tad confusing for Roomba and sometimes it takes a few seconds to work them out, but every time it has come across one it has managed to climb over it or get itself untangled again in a few seconds, without any intervention from me.
6) Does it damage furniture or knock things over?
Nope. I see no damage to any of my furniture and despite watching Roomba hurtle into the dog water bowls several times he is yet to spill a drop.
7) In what ways is it better than the old roombie?
One word: Alexa. Just when I thought I couldn’t get any lazier, I discovered the phrase “Alexa, tell Roomba to clean”. Yes! I don’t even have the press the button for an ad hoc clean.
Oh, my dear old Roomba. Where have you been these last few years and why, oh why, did I ever abandon you? Welcome home, sweet (and more shiny then ever) friend.
eally good
we had this since February and it really makes your life easier. Cleans well and saves you so much time and hassle. We recommend it. Very good price, too. On the negative side, it sometimes gets stuck on things he is convinced it can mount and you have to manually free him. It will also try to suck wires. A couple of tweaks to the house furniture and no more issues. one thing I wish it had is the ability to get him to finish a room before going to the next. It just goes around the house doing a bit here and a bit there until all it’s done. But for the price, it’s great.
Beyond our expectations
Two weeks in and far beyond our expectations, what a contribution to time saving and frequently of cleaning. Wonderful.
very good for not getting up
much improved over their first model (the only one i ever owned previously). the app control is great and it gives you a map of the area actually covered. the apartment is looking very clean and emptying the dust bin is so much easier than previously. this is one lazy person who is glad he has invested in another.
Reliable, quiet and powerful. Just wish it wouldn’t get stuck on certain pieces of furniture !
Great robot hoover if you can get on offe
I managed to get this on an Amazon deal and that made it fantastic value. This is a great machine for everyday general clean, but is not for deep cleaning (No robot machines are) We have a dog and it does help keep pet hair under control, but we still need to do a proper vacuum at least once a week. The app is good and the mapping is clever, but not that useful. The bin fills up quickly, so would probably go for the new bin emptying version in the future. Overall a great machine for everyday use, especially on hard floors. Ok on carpet but not for a deep clean.
Out of the box everything seemed to be going well then the Roomba (called “Brownie”, after the folklore) encountered my coffee table. It is an odd design and the Roomba though it could mount the bottom metal struts but it could not so on the first clean, stuck: error 1! The virtual wall didn’t really help either. So I had to place a physical barrier by way of some coffee table books underneath the table and that sorted things out. ‘Brownie’ also got itself stuck on the way back to home base but I realised it was a bad placement of the virtual wall causing it to get in a tiswas. Since better placement of the virtual wall everything seems to be going well. Fingers crossed because even after having vacuumed really well the day before the Roomba managed to lift even more dust and dirt – quite impressive!
As I now have a open plan kitchen living room I was starting to find my floors getting really dirty mid week with food crumbs and pet hair. This is amazing and better than expected. I work long hours and I love that I can set this off and do other errands. Time save
If you are anything like me the thought of taking out the Hoover fills you with dread! I bought this as a Christmas present for my parents (who forever complain about cleaning). While dubious at first (only set it up two days ago even though it’s been there since Xmas ) after the first time it cleaned the floor – they were converted! We use this for the downstairs and in my opinion it’s worth it’s weight in gold! With this little guy I don’t have to worry at all.
The only thing you have to do is empty the bin and wipe down the sensors – a 5 min job compared to the 30min/1 hour job it previously took to Hoover the house. Gets into the hard to reach places and even goes under the couch ! You do have to watch out for wires as it got tangled up in them but after moving them out of its way it was off again.
Thinking I might need to buy one for myself after seeing this one in action!
Expensive but worth every penny!
Roomba cleans my whole flat while I can get on with other things. Very effective on hard floors & rugs, all I have to do is press the app on my phone & off it goes. Easy to clean as well, this product is well worth the price. I love my Roomba !
I use to have to hoover every day as I have 2 cats, now only 1 once a week, I just let this robot do what it does, looses a star, for the following reasons, dirt bin is a bit too small, and it does a great job, but you still need to hover 1 once a week, also if you have a run more than 1/2 inch it can’t get up on it, which is a shame but not a deal breaker. Works with Alexa fantastic although I wish I could set the word to use, and IFTTT using location based, so when you go out it hoovers, and when you come back it goes back to its corner. Well worth it, 1 star lost, but definitely well worth it, being disabled.
Love the product. Does a fantastic job on wooden floors and on the carpets.
Its hypnotic watching it move about, then moves from room to room. When cleaning it bounces wall to wall – edge to edge cleaning, but then when moving around it drives round obstacles and through door ways without touching the sides. Very clever.
We have set up a daily schedule and the floors have never been cleaner.
+ alexa integration
The missus has told loads of people who have subsequently bought one as well.
A brilliant produc
Costs a bit but is truly a fantastic product and synced well with Elexa . I bought as a gift for my wife and she says best present I ever got her! So intelligent in memory of area to clean leaves room feeling fresh and for size the suction power is unreal.
it works
does a good job for
daily clean but can skimp corners and edges and small spaces. – works well if cleaned weekly. has habit of lockingg itself
in rooms. – software is ok but not up
to more expensive 980 model
It's fantastic
I’ve wanted one for ages, and waited til a big BF price drop (purchased from amazon.es at 40% off). Now I know how good it is, I would happily have paid full price. I have tiled flooring throughout, but it’s superb, and my floors have never looked so clean. Recommended.
This is a top quality product. Both, design and build quality. I keep my hard floors clear of debris – this guy keep the dust bunnies in check every day! Consumables are rather pricey.
This is my second Roomba. I had a Roomba 760, but when he broke down I decided to buy this one. Never dissapointes. I am not keen of the schedule through the app on my mobile instead of be done directly on the robot, but I loved that I can use it with my Google home. Apparently it’s even more efficient than my last one, so I am very happy with my purchase.
Before using the Roomba e5154 I was sceptical. Could a Robot vacuum cleaner really be better than simply running the hoover around yourself, but after a few try (and a few false starts as I learnt what it could and couldn’t do), I’ve been very impressed. It’s really great to come home and have the carpets for an entire floor cleaned. Then all you have to do is empty the dust box give it a rinse and a dry and you’re all done. It’s particularly a benefit that it cleans all the floors, underneath beds, chest of drawers etc. I don’t have pets, but I imagine for a pet owner it must be amazing to have something that you can set to clean the house every time you’re out.
A couple of positives and misconceptions I had from from using it:
1. It doesn’t ‘map’ out the rooms and then stick to a pattern, it simply starts from scratch every time. This is great as you can move the dock, including it moving downstairs to get it to clean there whenever you like.
2. It won’t fall down the stairs as auto detects them.
3. The instructions say it has to be left in a space with 50cm of space on either side, but I found it didn’t. I have a chair at the end of a chest of drawers and it happily sat and redocked underneath that. It’s not very tall so you can also put the dock underneath a chest of drawers or bed, just make sure you can reach it pull it out and empty it.
4. You can buy a second dock for downstairs and they’re reasonably priced (45 from the Roomba site directly)
5. It picks up a surprising amount of dirt! I’d vacuumed my carpets regularly and was a bit surprised at how much it collected.
6. The programmable app is very simply to use, simply set the times you want and it will clean those days while you’re out. You can also control from Alexa and Google Home set-ups fairly easily.
7. You can also control it when you’re away from home so for example if you’re out and forgot to set it going you can. Or if you’re on holiday and want to cancel the schedule, no problem.
And a few drawbacks to be aware of:
1. It doesn’t do the carpet in regular lines, so you carpet looks neat it won’t all have been vacuumed in one way.
2. You need to change the filter about once every 2 months depending on use.
3. It’s quite noisy when it’s going. For example if I’m downstairs and it’s running I can hear it pretty clearly upstairs, the sounds seems to
4. It can get tangled up in shoelaces and things like string left on the floor, so you do have to do some clearing up before you let it run.
5. It can get confused by some features, e.g it was regularly going over the wooden frame (about 0.5cm high) into a wardrobe and getting caught up, but you can use the zone signaler to create a virtual wall and stop it going there (but because it doesn’t ‘learn’ the room you need to put it there every time you vacuum or leave it there.
All in all, if you can afford it a surprisingly neat bit of kit.
I’ve been using this automated vacuum for a while now, and I have to say, it’s a really nice bit of kit. First things first: Yes, it really does happily run on its own without human oversight. And yes, it’s actually a surprisingly good vacuum, pulling up ground in debris. Our carpets have never looked better.
From a hardware component standpoint, this is straightforward:
It has a charging station, with a standard UK plug. You plug the charging station into a socket, and let it sit on the floor. This is the ‘home base’ for the vacuum – where it starts and ends all its vacuuming jobs, and where it charges between jobs.
It has the vacuum itself, a discus-shaped critter, which is quite wide, but shallow enough that it got under our sofa. There’s a big “CLEAN” button on top, which you can use to make it start cleaning – or restart cleaning if it aborts during a job for some reason (more on that later). The vacuum also contains a storage area for the debris it collects, which also includes a filter for dealing with smaller particles. Emptying the storage is quite simple – it can be removed from the vacuum unit and emptied, without having to pack the entire vacuum over to the bin.
The rotors also deserve a mention. They’re rubberised and textured, presumably to allow for picking up drt from carpet. They’re also very easy to remove, courtesy of a small switch, which is very helpful if they get stuck on something, or if you’ve, say, picked up quite a lot of cat hair and they need cleaning. Access to the bin and the rotors makes maintenance easy, points to the company’s engineers on that one.
Alongside the hardware is some software. Everything has an app these days, why not your vacuum? And the app..well, it’s not bad. I’m not sure if the features available differ depending on the model of vacuum you have, but this one was streamlined and efficient. It lets you check the history of cleaning jobs (i.e. how much dirt the vacuum has sucked up, and whether the job passed or failed). It lets you schedule jobs (so that it, say, runs in the middle fo the day when you’re out, rather than in the middle of the night). And it has a big ‘Clean’ button too, letting you start a cleaning job from your phone, tablet, or wherever you have the app installed. That means no having to go to the charging point to get the vacuum going, it means being able to start a job remotely – so you can be at the shops and come home to a clean house, or be making a cup of tea on a Sunday morning and let the vacuum clean while you do something more interesting.
From a cleaning perspective, it’s decent with a few issues. It copes well with shallow pile carpets and hard floors, and managed to traverse a deep pile rug without getting clogged, which is a positive. It also picks up hair (as promised!) and other debris, and the house certainly feels cleaner.
But it also feels designed as a device you run daily, rather than weekly, because of the pathfinding. Let me explain: When you kick off a job, the robot vacuum zooms off its charging station, vacuuming away. Eventually, it bumps into something. Then it tries to navigate around it. If it can’t, it either edges along it (which is great for cleaning the borders of, say, kitchen cupboards), or zooms off in another direction. This is all fine, and the design of the bumpers on the vacuum means that although it knocks into things, it doesn’t damage itself or your furniture. But it also means that when a job finishes, you can’t be sure that every spot in every room has been seen by the vacuum. If you run it every week, this might be noticeable. If you run it every day, then the bits it missed on day one, it’ll pick up on days two or three, and you’ll end up with a cleaner house overall. It’s a bit of a mindshift though, and something to bear in mind. It feels designed to do small, daily jobs, rather than weekly cleans.
On the other hand, you can let it run while you’re out or doing something else, so running it daily isn’t much ofa hardship.
That said, it does have some issues. Sometimes the pathfinding isn’t perfect, and the vacuum gets ‘lost’ on its way back to base, eventually running out of battery (resulting in a rather mournful message sent to the app!). Sometimesit climbs into a pile of paper you forgot you put on the floor, and scatters them all over the place. Sometimes it runs into that pile of cords you’ve got plugged into a four-way extension in the bedroom, and winds them all up inside itself, necessitating taking the rollers off and detangling everything. This is a vacuum which is not a fan of your clutter. T
In its defence, it does also come with a ‘virtual wall’ which you can set up to stop the vacuum going into certain areas (say “My enormous pile of cords and junk”), but that’s yet another thing to charge/keep an eye on; it works, but it’s a shame its necessary at all.
And although it copes well with stairs – we watched with trepidation when it got near the top of ours the first few times, but it’s never fallen! – it doesn’t climb them, so if you’ve got a multilevel home you want cleaning, you’ll either need two vacuums, or to carry it between floors. And you’ll have to clean your stairs yourself (the horror!).
All in all though, these are very minor complaints. This device has been an absolute revolution in our house. We can run it during the day, each day, and come home to a clean set of floors. I may never have to vacuum again – and that, alone, makes this easily worth the price.
I am not a hoovering fan and therefore a huge fan of this product.
It was very easy to set up and it gets on with the job well. I love watching it as it has its own logic of how it maps out a room and then covers the space to hoover.
The job it does is efficient and picks up all the cat hair my cat shreds everywhere and it has fast become a product I use every few days.
I am not using it with an app of linked to Alexa because I’ve seen Terminator and what happens when the machines rise up
Automate your cleaning
How much fun can you have with a vacuum cleaner? Lots with a Roomba!! To get the most out of a Roomba does require a little effort initially but once you have it sorted it can work really well. It’ll never completely replace the need for another vacuum (it can’t do stairs or small nooks or crannies) but it can take the bulk of the work out of vacuuming.
Before the Roomba starts, move all the things off the floor that you can. For example in our living room I move the cat scratching post and the small tables off the floor and onto the sofa/chairs so that as much as the floor is clear. Move any cables out of the way too.
Our living room is hard floor with a large rug. The Roomba copes really well with the different flooring and the difference in height from the wood floor onto the rug.
The invisible wall gadget is incredibly useful too. It can be set to act as a wall or a ‘halo’ semi-circle. We use the wall to stop it trying to get under the wardrobes in the bedroom (it gets under and then gets stuck half-way if the invisible wall isn’t there), and we use the semi-circle to stop it trying to vacuum the cat food bowls in the kitchen.
It methodically cleans and if it encounters any problems it sends your phone an alert! So when it was getting stuck under the wardrobes I would get an alert so I could go an rescue it, put up the invisible wall and let it carry on. It goes backwards and forwards in different directions until the whole space is done or it runs out of power (90 minutes). It’s really pretty effective and the floor is well cleaned at the end of the session.
It also works with Alexa and you can set it off cleaning with voice commands.
I’m really pleased with it and I’m getting a lot of use out of it, but I still need my other vacuum to do the stairs and get in small spaces. If you have a lot of clutter then you will need to spend time clearing the space to optimise the Roomba’s functioning.
I wouldn’t be able to justify buying one myself, but it is brilliant and no doubt worth the money if you can afford one. It is impressive.
Suprisingly intuitive, efficient and quiet!
Suprisingly intuitive, efficient and quiet! It follows a thorough and sensible path around the room and genuinely picked up things I didn’t think it would be able to. It’s easy to empty out too. I found it easy to use from the start and I can’t believe how quiet it is.
about this unit, I have to admit to having very low expectations for my carpets and rugs in a house with a constantly shedding german shepherd and a bearded collie, we have a constant hair problem. This unit however pick up every scrap of fur and lifted the pile on my front room rug.
Straight out of the box it recommends a three hour charge but it has enough power to let you link to the phone app and set everything up and I have to say it was very easy to do .I downloaded the app from the google store linked the roomba following the instructions in the app and then a short wait until full charge was reached which it did quicker than three hours.Open the app press clean, the roomba worked at a seemingly random pattern but it moves over the areas to be cleaned several times before it gets everthing so don’t panick if it doesn’t grab the mess first time .
The little brushes on the side sweep bigger particles into the rubber central sweeper very effectively and if the unit touches a particularly dirty spot it will spot clean the area staying in place and spinning until its work is done.
When anything is wrong with roomba it tells you on the app and all the peripherals can be replaced although the unit comes with a set of two filters and instructions of the maintenance regime. I have had no problems getting the unit to go home after cleaning when using the app its one button and when using the buttons on the top of it you press two buttons. The small battery operated unit that protects an area or gives a do not cross line works very well but place it about 6 inches back from the edge you need cleaned as it seems to engage in the edge of the unit.
The front panel has a soft bumper which when it touches an object depresses and the unit turns.
You will of course have to make sure there are no wires or loose objects in the area before you set this little guy to work but my long hair which tangles around the brushes of my big hoover dont even bother these rollers and as it rolls over the edges of my rug onto the laminate floor and back it has never stopped got stuck or stopped cleaning ,if it gets into tight spaces like under chairs it always found its way out.
The scheduling of the unit can be done once a day but at present my app only gives the choice of 9am so I probably wouldn’t use that feature
Trouble is it’s not at present a time saver as I’m standing there watching the thing clean, the dog ignores it though so thats a good thing.
It’s now the daily cleaner and so much quieter than my big upright.
This little robot is very easy to set up. You need to pick an area with a little bit of space around it for the charging station – 0.5m either side, 1.2m in front and at least 1.2m away from stairs or any Virtual Wall barriers according to the instruction manual.
Once charged, you can either use the iRobot app to set Roomba cleaning or you can simply press the CLEAN button on top of the robot. To pause or return home you can also use the app or press the buttons on top – whichever you prefer.
I have been incredibly impressed with Roomba’s cleaning ability. It seems to be very thorough and has some really impressive cleaning power – picking up a half-full bin of dust and hair from a carpet that had been cleaned with a Dyson just the day before! Roomba is just under 8cm tall so will squeeze under anything higher than that, meaning it can get into places that are tricky to clean on a regular basis with a regular vacuum, such as under our stairs and under the settees. I love it just for that! This Roomba comes with a Virtual Wall barrier – a very neat little block that, when switched on, emits a virtual wall that Roomba won’t cross. It can be set to either emit a straight line wall or a semicircle so can block off doorways or areas that you don’t want Roomba straying into. This is a very clever and useful feature. You should be able to see from the video that Roomba slows down before touching obstacles and so if your foot or some other object gets in the way, Roomba will slow down before gently touching and then setting off in another direction.
Roomba’s battery seems to last very well – it cleans for ages before having to charge. It also tackles edges very well. As you may be able to see at the start of the video that I uploaded, when it is cleaning along an edge it will even follow that edge around corners – unfortunately in my video it then encounters an obstacle, (the radiator valve), that interrupts the edge clean. It seems to be a very robust little robot that handles pretty much anything that it encounters in the rooms. The one thing that we’ve found that has flummoxed it on occasion has been our dining chairs which have long, low bits on the floor (see picture). Roomba has, on occasion, got stuck on these legs and needed rescuing, (it sends a distress call via the app!). I spoke to iRobot technical support about this issue as I figured I’d need to buy a few Virtual Walls in order to successfully block off all the chairs around our round table and wondered if there was any other way around this. I was impressed with the iRobot technical support – they were very responsive, took their time to understand the issue and tried their best to come up with solutions but, ultimately, this is a problem that isn’t easily solved if I want to leave the chairs in their usual positions. Therefore, I am now quickly moving the chairs into one area and excluding that area with the Virtual Wall – a little bit of a pain BUT I have to move the chairs when manually vacuuming anyway so it’s no more hassle than usual. If you have regular dining chairs then Roomba should cope admirably and should be able to hoover around them without problems.
The charging station needs to be left plugged in and in an area with consistent WiFi coverage to allow Roomba to receive info from the iRobot app. However, it is also possible to pick Roomba up and taking it to other rooms such as ones upstairs, where I leave it to clean for a while before manually returning it to the charging station. The edge sensor works really well – Roomba cleans the landing upstairs and never looks likely to fall down the stairs. I watched it for the first few times and wondered if I needed to use the Virtual Wall but no, it confidently detects the edge and sets off in another direction.
Emptying the bin on Roomba couldn’t be easier. There is a button on the side that you push and then the bin slots out and another press of a button opens a door on the bin allowing the dust to be emptied. It is recommended that you clean the filter once or twice a week by removing it and tapping it to clean but it is so easy to do, (it is incorporated into the bin section), that I tend to give it a quick tap every time I empty the dust.
Overall I am incredibly impressed with this little robot. The ease of use, the cleaning power and the fact that it can get into difficult areas means that I would now be lost without it. It definitely saves me a lot of time. Now, if it could only do the stairs for me… 🙂
Have had Robot Vacs before but not one with a phone app. There is no doubt of the cleaning ability of this one. The pile on my carpets are really perked up. The spot function works very well and it was amusing to spills some crumbs and watch the vacuum make a beeline for ithem and then go in circles till it was clean. I was surprised that there was no edge facility as I used this a lot in previous ones. After watching it I realise it does the edges along with the rest of the cleaning. We have not managed to get it to return home when we press the home button. Try as we might we have not managed to get a program with the app. We are faced with a circle with the word CLEAN on it and nowhere to go. The virtual wall is used mainly for stopping it going into a room I dont want it to go into. There is also an area function so you can stop it going near cables and such like and this works well. There is built in sensors to stop it falling down stairs. Because I am retired I wont program it anyway preferring to clean from room to room fand or this reason it is not important to use the app. For the same reason the vacuum does not have a chance to return to home when finished a room as I simply lift and take to the next room. We will of course try and perhaps get my family onto it ,It maybe that we ar missing something. Overall I think it is excellent and love using it.
I am not an individual who embraces all tech innovations like they’re the saviours of the world. I was a little cynical about this iRobot Roomba Robot Vacuum cleaner, but I will come out of my closet and say YES! This gadget really DOES WORK! It’s not difficult to set up – you need to download an app to your mobile phone, and it needs to be charged, but once you set it up and press ‘clean’, it then proceeds to do just that. Of course, it’s not that ‘logical’, in that it basically criss-crosses the carpet or floor, and gets on with it. It’s pretty quiet – you could put it on, and have a telephone conversation whilst it’s doing its work – it can go for ninety minutes. You have to get out of the mindset of a regular vacuum cleaner. it works through just going over the area time and again. It isn’t the death knell of the traditional vacuum cleaner, and it probably won’t do a really heavily soiled surface, but I am impressed. Attached are two photos – bear in mind that the carpet had been vacuumed only the day before. We have two dogs, who do shed a lot of fur, and I thought our vacuum coped well. But this Roomba has picked up some really stubborn and fine dog hairs that the other vacuum hadn’t picked up. The dust tray is easily removed, and the filter should be cleaned on a weekly basis, but the maintainence regime looks reasonably easy. Very, very impressive robot, and I think it’ll earn back the outlay in no time.
