It just makes coffee
I don’t want to be a barista but like well made coffee. This is the easiest way to do it. Tad expensive considering Krups will be milking the cleaning products for years to come.

Wanted a Bean to cup for as long I can remember!
I am SO HAPPY! I’ve finally got myself an awesome bean to cup machine and it’s a Krups no less!!!!

I was so lucky because I first saw this exact machine on ideal world tv(they sold me on it) they wanted 850 for a new machine with the option to spread the cost which is what I would have done but I thought I’ll look else where just Incase I can find it cheaper.

Can’t beat that even on eBay or anywhere else, it was described as scratched so I didn’t expect it to be in a very presentable condition and I know Amazon are amazing for being able to return things so I didn’t mind taking a ‘risk’ and buying it from here and just seeing how good or bad it is. It’s in perfect condition and it’s literally only a small mark on it and not in its original box and came with all its accessories.

I ordered 1kg Lavatza coffee beans just to test the machine out once I got it (all came next day thanks to prime) so I got it all in one go!

The machine seems to make a superb cappuccino. I haven’t yet tried the other drinks it can make because I’m a cappuccino guy but I will make lattes and what have you for guests coming this weekend so I may update about those but I can’t imagine they won’t be fantastic drinks. It rivals, no I’ll go as far to say it surpasses Starbucks and costa because the Krups makes consistently good cappuccino where as in the coffee shops I’ve had to ask for them to remake my drink for a number of reasons(main one is being served brown water that has no coffee taste).

Because of price I paid this machine will pay for itself within 3 months, 3 x 200 = 600 so well within 3 months since I drink a lot when the coffee is this nice and easy to ‘make’ (machine does It all I just provide it with a cup and some milk)

The first thing it does when you turn the machine on is greet you ‘Hello’ and then it will pre heat itself with a little animation on the screen which takes about 30 seconds, it’s fast. Once thats done the menu pops up so you can select a drink you wish for it to make.
Up to 17 drinks so you’ll find what you want! Once you’ve selected your drink via the touch screen, you pick which size you would like and then you’ll then be instructed to fill the provided cappuccino glass mug with the required milk volume depending on the size of the drink you selected. The beans will grind automatically while the milk is steamed so it’s multitasking.
The machine begins to make the cappuccino by steaming the milk which is pretty cool to watch the steam wand move into position, do it’s thing really well and then move itself back into its little home where it will clean itself after the drink is made. The coffee will come out next and that’s that. The machine will show and tell you on the screen what is happening so you’ve never guessing.

It will tell you when the drip tray is full, the water tank is empty, the beans are empty and when it wants to clean itself which seems to only take about 1 minute but It’s only cleaned the steam wand and rinsed the nozzles since I’ve only used it twice for 2 cappuccinos. I would imagine descaling would take a little longer but that shouldn’t need doing a lot.

The 2 provided Krups glass mugs come with markings on them to show you how much to fill for small, medium and large so it’s really easy and you don’t need a measuring jug to get it right. Also you can buy extras for around 15 for 2 and I probably will.

The real question is is it worth the price of 850 that I nearly paid?
I say no it’s not worth it, I would happy if I’d paid full price because it’s a great machine but I am bargain hunter after all and I’m sure you could find something without the touch screen and what have you for a lot less and probably get a good coffee out of It. the warehouse price I paid I say yes definitely it is worth it because the machines around that price i think are no where as nice or as easy to use. There was a Delonghi in Costco for 299 which I nearly bought a few months back but I wanted to sleep on it and I’m glad I didn’t buy that one. It wasn’t as nice looking or as feature packed as the Krups, that’s pretty obvious since they are priced a lot different. One is 850 new and the other 299 new. I’m glad I didn’t impulse buy it.

This machine is replacing my manual delonghi coffee machine, it’s the kind of one where you have to grind the beans yourself and hope you get it right and then put it in the basket, tamper it and then fix it into the machine and of course steam your own milk and clean it all up afterwards. It ok but a pain in the backside because it can easily burn you If you’re not fully awake and who is in the morning before their coffee? The mess it made, don’t get me started!! Lol

I’ve only seen one other for 450 used and around 500 for ‘refurbished’ ones so I got a real bargain i think and I feel like it’s a big moment in my life to finally own a bean to cup. The reviews about Krups are a little bit scary but I’m no stranger bad customer service so if the time comes that I need to call them then ding ding bring it on! Lol.

Makes a great Cappuccino
I think everyone does a lot of research, I certainly did, when buying a bean-to-cup coffee machine given they are an expensive product to buy and, like any product, there doesn’t seem to be the one perfect machine out there! I found reviews really help, particularly people’s actual experience rather than the so-called professional reviews, so here goes. I had an earlier Krups model which failed after 5 years. I read lots of reviews on all other recommended machines and eventually decided to go for Krups again. This model is a slight upgrade on my previous one (e.g. only one drip tray now).
Important factors in my decision-making:
Bean-to-cup machines are expensive. Some are ridiculously expensive, some seem too cheap. This is probably priced about right for the features but there is no denying it is not at the cheap end of the market.
If you want the full Barista experience, tamping coffee, frothing milk yourself, this is not for you. It’s probably as near automatic as you can get.
The container for used coffee is on the LH side and the water container (quite large which is important because you don’t want to be constantly refilling the water) is on the RH side, both accessible from the front and the coffee beans go into a container on the top. My machine is on a worktop with cupboards inset above, so I have 44cm height from worktop to cupboard base. This machine fits in perfectly. The coffee container lid does not open fully for me because of the cupboard base, but enough to get the coffee beans in.
It looks smart, a little plasticky perhaps, but smart enough.
It is easy to set up for favourites, size of drink, temperature, coffee strength etc., just follow the machine prompts.
The integral milk frother/cleaner was vital for me, and I could not find another machine that did this so easily, so if you are making a cappuccino, the milk goes in the mug (the ones they supply with the m/c have helpful measure marks on the outside of the mug) and the frother froths the milk, then the coffee is added. It cleans the milk frother itself before you make another cup.
However, (and maybe I did not find this on my previous machine, but it’s a big plus), this machine can make two cups consecutively before cleaning the milk frother, which saves waiting around for the second cup and also means the drip tray does not get full so quickly. It does not do two consecutive cups if you use your Favourites, but if you just pick Cappuccino from the menu, then it offers the option to make a second cup immediately.
I have only ever used coffee beans so cannot comment on the coffee it makes from ground coffee, although there is that option.
We use filtered water so don’t use the water filter supplied.
Lots of different coffee options but not always easy to work out the amount of water you need for the size of cup etc., that is trial and error.
It makes great espressos, good crema and hot.
You can adjust the temperature in the settings. We’re at max temperature and it’s fine for Cappuccinos or lattes etc.,, not piping hot but hot enough, because obviously the milk is going to be cold, it’s the coffee that is hot.
I read somewhere that someone said the milk froth is cold. I have never thought of that as an issue. Yes, the very top layer of froth is not hot, but I don’t think it detracts from the cappuccino.
Whichever bean-to-cup machine you choose, there is a lot of cleaning, emptying of trays, filling up water containers etc. This m/c prompts you to empty the coffee grounds container, to fill up with coffee beans (and it never does that in the middle of making a coffee), to empty the drip tray and to fill up the water container. Every few coffees, it says it needs to do an automatic clean. You can ignore that for a couple of cups. Then all you have to do is empty the drip tray and it does the rest. Every so often it also asks you to do a manual clean. Once again you can ignore that for a couple of cups but then it just won’t let you make a coffee without doing the clean. The m/c prompts you to remove the drip tray, and how to clean the milk frother (buy a very small bristle brush to get inside the tube). It’s not difficult and you can see traces of dried milk, so it does need doing.
Negatives: any bean-to-cup coffee machine is a complicated piece of equipment, so if it goes wrong, you need to hope it does not have to go away for repair. There is a recommended service company, but they were difficult to get hold of in lockdown and the machine will have to go away, which takes c. 3 weeks.
Recycling: how to recycle an old machine? Full of plastic & metal. Should be easily recyclable or repairable but isn’t.
Prepare yourself for buying consumables like cleaning liquid etc., but accept that it’s an expensive machine you want to keep in tip top condition.
I am very happy with this machine, love the coffee it makes and fingers crossed for good reliability!
