This lantern is sturdy and sound, we bought it in 2022 amidst all the media hype of possible energy outages that coming winter. Well we did not need to use it but I am glad we have it now. Finally took it out of its box in Autumn 2023! Our bathroom light had a problem and this proved to be the next best thing to a night light in there. It has come into fairly regular bathroom use during the night (instead of using the noisy pull cord) and as already stated in other reviews – the batteries last forever! I think campers will find it very efficient as well.
The light works fine, bright enough to light your whole tent with ease. Quite chunky but it’s still easily portable. Due to it’s weight when fully loaded with batteries, it can be a bit difficult to hang in smaller, less sturdy tents, but other than that it’s great.
Bought these lanterns for power cuts they are so bright we turned them down to soft light which was good enough to light up the room, these lanterns would be fantastic for camping, would highly recommend.I purchased (4) lanterns a bit costly for good quality batteries but well worth the money. No problems fitting the batteries brilliant wee lanterns if you ever have a power cut you will be glad to have these handy.would give 10stars if possible..
I am so pleased with these lights. They are excellent value for money. We have placed one in the cupboard under our stairs as I could never find anything under there, because it was so dark. It lights the whole cupboard up. Would highly recommend.
Great bright light with a lower setting as well. It’s so good I will get another for upstairs when the lights fail and camping trips. This lamp is almost identical to the one it’s replacing. Why replace? This one is 1000 lumens vs the old one 300. This cost about 15 pounds the old one was nearly 30 many moons ago.
Both lamps are powered by 3x1AA batteries held inside D cell sized enclosures. The new lamp’s battery compartment has a useful centre pivot t align the lid with the case – the old lamp was a devil to put back together. Note, instructions state no rechargeable batteries, not sure why. My rechargeable batteries are working fine in the new lamp.
Can not fault this lamp at all.
For us it was durable, easy to put the batteries in and worked wonderfully.
Good amount of light, I love that there’s a warm light feature white light makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, the warm light makes for a really cosy experience but is still bright enough to read under. You can dim the light if needed and you can hang it from the bottom, taking off the cover to create an overhead light which is very convenient for finding things or changing etc. Was very efficient, we used it for a week and didn’t need to change a battery OR use any other lighting which made me happy as usually we need a few lights dotted around
Adaptable and practical medium-weight lamp suitable for use in a variety of environments. It has a powerful degree of illumination with a range of functions which should suit most users.
The large batteries required mean that this lamp is not a lightweight, but I presume that they will maintain power for some time. Having only just purchased the lamp – and long-life batteries – I cannot comment on battery life at this stage.
Use this In our campervan awning….outside when it’s warm enough, throws out a great deal of light and had a sturdy feel to it. It stands or can be hung. Recommended.
Shopped around a lot for one of these lamps for camping.
Super bright lamp, can change colour and brightness, hang from the top or bottom, or stand alone.
Does a good job.
I can say that the price and the light that this item gives you its to good . I use it always outside in the backyard. But sometimes inside. It’s like a back up plan to have with you .
I bought this when there was talk about power cuts but while it would be very good for this purpose we use it as a torch & wherever lightis needed. It is not small & is not lghtweight but all the members of my family use it without difficulty.
I gave this lantern 4 stars as overall it is a very good lantern and provides so much light especially if you have a power cut or your out camping then this lantern is ideal. However, the batteries are very challenging to put in at the bottom of the lantern and I think this is a slight design flaw as some other people have mentioned about this problem in some previous reviews so I took one star off.
As emergency lighting and for going out in dark and bad weather. Also for camping.
Three settings 1000 lumens top, eco lighting for night light plus distress signalling. Works on 3 D size batteries which have shown no decrease so far. Used for security checks late at night. Economical & useful.
Reviewed 26 December 2022. I’m happy with the brightness. Not sure about battery life, I’ve not had them long enough to need replacing the batteries. The battery cover is fiddly to fit. Needs accurate and firm treatment. I can see this being the first thing to break if the user isn’t careful.
If you have it at half brightness or less it lasts for days and days. I bought two of them and loads of other lights for power cuts. These are the best. Buy a stock of the Big D type batteries (2 for a pack of 2 Energizer on Amazon) and you will have light whenever you want. I strongly recommend this lantern. The warm white is also great. I leave mine on all night downstairs on a low setting. It lasted 9 days on a trial and that is lowish brightness 24/7.
You can hang it either way up too with the hanging brackets
It’s a beauty
Excellent brightness (not dazzling,) with a good 360 degree beam, dimmable, sturdy, certainly not lightweight – but not too heavy either. It has a nice solid feel that won’t be knocked over easily. I’m very pleased with this lantern as it very clearly lights up each medium sized room that I’ve tried it in extremely well in the dark.
I plan to only use it during a blackout as I calculated that it would be expensive to frequently replace even the cheapest of batteries – and not very environmental, although disposable batteries can still be recycled in most supermarkets. Having batteries stored in a safe battery case (most batteries have a shelf life of 10 years,) is a guaranteed way of having light during blackouts or an emergency.
I also bought a few rechargeable lanterns of a similar style (they’re much more lightweight by the way,) incase of blackouts, but mainly so I can use the rechargeable versions each evening to save on electricity bills. ( I use a solar panel attached to power banks, then use the stored energy in the power banks to recharge the rechargable lantern versions.)
The problem I find with the rechargeable lantern versions though is they usually need recharging every 3-5 hours – which is fine if there’s one or two backup lanterns to use whilst the other is recharging, electricity available, or enough power stored in a power bank to recharge them – but what if there isn’t?
That’s why I bought this battery powered version and spare D batteries, (it can’t be used with rechargable batteries unfortunately,) as a guaranteed way of having light during a power cut if the other recharargeable lanterns run out of power first.
I find it difuses more light in the room with the lampshade detached. I like it placed on top of a sturdy and tall cabinet as an uplighter, (it’s softer on my eyes being placed above my eye level and the light is not glaring down on me either as it would be if it’s hung on the ceiling with the hook on the bottom,) and it still lights up the entire room very clearly and beautifully sitting securely on top of my cabinet with the lampshade detached as an uplighter – even on the soft warm setting.
The button is easy to press and it’s very simple to use. I would definitely recommend this lantern.
I bought the set of 2 camping lanterns for use in my loft (although a little pricey for plastic lamps). However, they are very bright and are excellent for what I need them for, and saves me having to pay an electrician to install some permanent lighting in an area that will only get occasionally used.
Being a set of two, they will also come in handy if we end up with power cuts.
I particularly wanted battery powered lamps as I couldn’t see the point of buying them for the loft then needing to bring them down to re-charge them. And if I need them because of power cuts, what good would they be if they needed mains power to charge them?
They appear to be quite robust and I like the options for hanging them up from either end. The settings re: different light options are simple and the on/off button is easy to press.
The base is wide enough so the lamps should be pretty stable if set upon something but, if they should topple or get knocked over, they appear to be able to take the knocks. Therefore, if you’re considering these for their intended use (camping) they will probably be very good.
The lamp is easy to handle and has a very bright light which can be altered. Batteries have to be bought extra. The main problem, which took me 20 minutes to sort out, is that it is very difficult to put in the batteries and close the lamp, even with instructions. Several times I put in different combinations of batteries and it is not easy to make sure the base is closed.
This is our 2nd purchase of of these and is a great replacement to the Camping Gaz lights we’ve been using for years. It’s light weight enough to hang in the tent (with it’s built in hook) and additionally being able to remove the lens section gave a great spread of light across the tent. Whether it lasts for 20 years, who knows, but at the good price point it doesn’t matter.
Good bright light, sturdy construction, uses D type batteries ahving relatively long life.
great lamp with good light out put on both levels, highly recommended
Brought after several power cuts. The base is not easy to open and close. First time thought it was broken as it did not work. After a few attempts. The light worked. Would advise not to be looking at it when turning on. It was very bright.
A lightweight and compact camping light – well designed and thought out. I would buy another of these
You can’t buy anything better under 20…
The best!!! Very well made
