enjoyed the build, looks great next to the GT3 and the Bugatti Chiro

Treat your inner nerd.
I really enjoyed building this, the only (very minor) issues I had were the lack of labelling on the bags (after an hour or so you get the gist of where parts are) and the slight yellowing of the plastic parts that I presume are supposed to be white. The model itself took me about 8-9 hours to build in two sittings and is considerably bigger than I thought it would be. I bought it as a time waster and it filled the role excellently, the only problem lies with being an adult trying to display a foot long lego toy.
Great first technic build
Got this a present for my step son as I like building the sets and he likes playing with them.
Great build, bags not having numbers wasn’t an issue just make sure all the parts are organised.
My only issue was the amount of stickers.
Great model
Box slighty damaged…. propably carrier fault. Appart from that superb.
No bag numbering adds pain to build
Great model, but the first time in many years there is no bag numbering – so expect to add considerable build time rummaging about 1,500 parts to make progress. Very annoying.
Incredible
My 10 year son is a Lego fanatic, I got this in the sale when it was cheap, it’s his first technic set, he spent approx 24 hours in total from scratch to finish, the detail is absolutley amazing, he cant wait for me to buy him another along with a display cabinet, as I cant see this will be his first and last, Well done LEGO!
An accurate model.
Very good model, detailed in every way. Very late delivery though, lied to on more than one occasion.
LEGO® Technic 42096 - Porsche 911 RSR
[+] stabiles, groes LEGO Technic Model, macht in der Vitrine auf jeden Fall was her
Looks Amazing!
Bought this for lockdown, took around 15 hours in total spread out over a week. Looks absolutely brilliant once complete, very happy with it. Well worth the money.
A great birthday gif
Bought for my 12 years old son birthday
he enjoyed building this .
Great for engineers
Brought for my step dad as he’s a former engineer. He loved putting this togethe
Instructions
Bags of pieces are not numbered and mixtures of components
Require clearer instructions as some assembly impossible to follow
Worth every penny
Fantastic bit of kit, Loved putting this together, really enjoyable and pleasing. Kept me out of the wife’s way for a few days. Great product great price, worth every penny
Amazing!!!
Amazing, my partner was over the moon building this, all the parts there, nothing missing, thank you
Excellent model and it takes many days to build
No lego is cheap and this kit is at the top end. That said its an impressive model and kept our son occupied for many days building it (he is 10). Recommended
Lego 42096 Technic Porsche 911 RSR
Birthday prese
Bought as a birthday present for my husband he loved it!
Was a present for my brother in law and her absolutely loved it really detailed and nice to build and son intricate with loads of moving parts
Great fu
Completed It too quick it’s addictive looks good once complete
Fun to build, though a bit sparse on detail
I enjoyed this one especially as I got it at a very good (for Lego) price of 72
It was a good build, but finished it’s a bit sparse on detail and I’m not convinced about the headlight assembly (too bulbous) the more expensive Porsche model does it better and it’s not as if there are more parts to that particular area so I don’t think it’s a simple ‘you get what you pay for’
The presentation isn’t as nice as the more expensive models either, but that is a different value proposition.
I built this after the defender and it was nowhere near as complex so if I’d paid full retail, this review would more likely be 3 star at best but I have to review it as I found it.
Great rewarding set not for the faint hearted
Great giant set for my son to do kept him quiet for days and good to learn them about construction and perseverance and reward, and I’m into my cars so everyone is a winner.
Good build looks grea
Looks fab once built really great build and fun to do when you’ve got spare time
A week’s entertainment for my 9 yr old!
Perfect on a deal before Christmas and this provided great half term entertainment for the wet and windy week!
A nice little challenge
First of all, for those of you that have built the Chiron and are expecting similar – this is not what you are going to get. This is a similar kind of build, but the end result is a lot lighter (literally). Secondly – the bags are NOT numbered, again for those who built the Chiron – you were spoilt 🙂 Just empty all the bags into a box and give yourself a little challenge finding the bits you need 🙂 . All in all a good little set for a Sunday afternoon, i’m pleased with it.
Bellissimo prodotto.
A great build for the price
Lego normally gets these things right. It’s not as detailed or advanced as its orange coloured Porsche equivalent or the outstanding Bugatti, but this model is not priced like them either.
It doesn’t have as many pieces and saves on things like the advanced transmission build that is in the Bugatti, but it does not matter as the finished model is yet another for my 12 year old’s ever increasing collection on a display shelf. Value for price is excellent.
Another lovely Lego model
A nice model for the collection. As expected, clear instructions and good build.
Lego
My grandson really enjoyed this Lego car hopefully will be the real thing
Great way to learn how cars work
Bought for 80 in Argos (sorry Amazon) on Black Friday for my 11 year old for Xmas and finally finished today. Was a bit freaked out when we saw everything in one bag but careful organisation and use of boxes to sort parts soon sorted that. Is a really useful way to learn about the engine, diff, suspension and steering rack; all of which work. A couple of frustrating mistakes in the instructions but the joy of working them out outweighed the annoyance. Overall a very enjoyable build. He is now beaming from ear to ear with pride at his achievement and I am stupidly proud. Only thing is it’s bloody huge and don’t know where to put it. Bugatti Chiron next I think. It apparently has a working gearbox. Oh, and it uas also cured him of his Fortnite addiction. Thanks Lego
Fun and Interesting Set to Build
Great lego set.
Only one negative about this set you have to empty all the packs as they are not numbered.
Otherwise great fun nice set to build.
Great fu
For the price many people will be put off but have loved building it takes some time if you don’t rush and only build on weekends will buy another Lego technic car soo
Awesome!
Defiantly worth the money, and very easy to do for all!
Lego
It’s all liked. Was bought for my husband who is 62
Lots of hours if fun building this Lego Technic se

Great value
As a Black Friday special offer this was great value
Excelle
A gift for my husband who will absolutely love it! Has wanted this set for a while. Purchased at a reduced price was worth waiting until after Christmas. Delivery speedy as usual and packaged well.
Very good model
Good design. Good instructions. Parts however in mixed bags with no discernible orde
Superb kit and very realistic when completed
I am 84 and am hooked again on building with Lego. Made a few early errors and had to deconstruct which was a pain.
Had some parts missing and am still waiting for replacements from Lego. Would love to acquire and build the Bugatti
but as an OAP my wife has said ” NO “. I will be pining for this kit for many months !!
Good model
Good model my 8 year old boy enjoyed building it. He really likes it, would add steering wheel up the top
Great build
Great build for my 11yo who constructed in stages over 4 days – excellent looking model. Only criticism – he wanted instructions for fitting power functions/lights…. guess he’ll have to work it out himself!
Toy for all ages
Bought this for my 24 year old son for his birthday. He loved making it and did so in a couple of sittings. Quite pricey but that’s LEGO for you! I’ve read reviews saying the stickers make it look cheap but I disagree. A lovely looking car when finished.
Great Lego toy
Amazing, my son loved making this. A few of the plans were tricky to understand but he made it!!!
Brillia
Fantastic! Bought for a 12yr old boy. He took it away and started building. After 2 days of back and forth building, playing out etc it was finished. No adult help needed. It is amazing. Great price too as 20 less than Lego store sale price!
Detailed model, challenging and ultimately rewarding build.
Great product, a challenge to build (no numbered bags) but that added to the sense of accomplishment!
Amazing value
Amazing value, bought on Black Friday for 80. Took 2 people 12 hours to build. Detailed mechanics; differential, rack and pinion steering, moving pistons. Equivalent models have cost us 150 in the past, grab it whilst you can!
Great build, super model.
Great fun building over Christmas with my 5 year old Lego expert son. He could not do it on his own, it needs adult help or 10 years plus for some parts of the build. 500 easy steps! Then a brilliant model.
This was a gift for my adult son and he loved it, he said it was an amazing build, the detail was great and it was larger than he would have thought.

Excellent ki
Great kit, my 16 year old had it for Christmas and spent all day building it. He loves it. I thought it was a lot of money for what it is but now I think it’s worth every penny.
Great for Lego mad people
Bought for my Lego mad son, he loved it. Spent a few hours assembling it and was really pleased with the end result.
Recommended for Lego, Porshe and general car enthusiasts
Amazing model, it has some awesome design features such as the pistons in the engine really going up and down with the stearing. It does take quiet a while to assemble but well worth the effort that is involved. I would recommend this for Lego, Porshe and general car enthusiasts as all would enjoy i
Product was dispatched very quickly and was exactly as promised
Product was dispatched very quickly and was exactly as promised
Another great Lego car.
Bought this for my husband. He already has the Bugatti, camper van, Vw beetle and Harley. He enjoyed this one. Only criticism was the bags are not numbered so you have to tip all pieces into one tray.
I was looking for a Christmas gift for my partner. Who is very hard to please. Plus he likes a challenge. The item arrived 2 days before the delivery date. Which I was very happy about. I do not know about assembly or durability due to being a gift. But over all , from what I’ve seen of the product. I’m very happy.
Update. This gift was welcomed with alot of joy. My partner has been on the assembly for a few days. Doing an hour or so at a time. In no rush to finish it. Very complexed. No numbers on the bags. And parts are mixed up a little in the bags. So this product is definitely made for the older child and more to the adult level. If this item has been bought for a child or is intended for a child. They WILL need an adult with them. (Unless they are like Sheldon.) Brilliant product.
Fantastic kit for medium ability
As an avid adult Lego fan, I was very enthusiastic when my 8YO requested this for birthday. Amazon are consistently much cheaper than anywhere on Lego. The model itself is a fantastic build. Great that Lego have one of their high end models pitched at a more modest skill level. It retains the technicality and brilliant features and creativeness of more advanced technic sets, but isn’t so onerous the younger kids get bored with building behind the scenes framework etc. Overall a highly recommended kit for the mid-ability Lego enthusiasts
Product great but packing for despatch left something to be desired.
I am sure the product will be great once made up, at Christmas; however, the suppliers packaging of simple brown paper, although to be applauded on conservation purposes, meant that each of the four corners of the box became damaged in transit. Certainly not a fault of Lego or Amazon management but those in charge of despatch. An interlined layer of reinforced paper may make a lot of difference for those buying from the same source.
Great Presents
My sons absolutely loves these kits. He spends every spare minute he has on these kits until it’s built. They are expensive, but very well made and look fantastic when they are built.
Great set to have
Another great kit from lego. This is one of my top 5 sets. A fun build
This is my 1st Lego Technics kit, and really enjoying it so far. I don’t really understand the comments about numbering of the bags. This for me is a good thing. I have just opened all the bags and emptied them into a large box. It makes it a little more of a challenge fishing through for the part you need. Even if the bags were numbered, I’d still empty them all into the same box.
I’d say my only complaint is that I’d have preferred a flip top box (or lid and bottom like a jigsaw puzzle box) so that I could use that to empty all the bags in rather than have to find an alternative container/box.
All in all, very pleased with it.
Good quality
Bought this for my 8 year old who loves Lego and has done some technics sets previously. This was a good challenge for him and he loved building it. Easy to follow instructions
Hours of fu
Amazing kit. Hours of fun, if a little bit frustrating at times. I had some parts left over at the end of the build!?
Its Lego at it's bes
This is another quality kit from Lego I am very impressed and it should make a good kit when buil
Love i
What’s not to like when it’s on offer.
Can’t fault genuine lego
Fabulous piece of desig
Ooh it’s a beautiful thing. Absolute joy to build, very satisfying and enjoyable to do with my 6yr old (she couldn’t do it on her own obviously). Couldn’t recommend more. You can’t help but marvel at the people who designed this.
A very exciting build! Hint: separate all the pieces by colour before you start to speed up the hunt for a specific connector. Plenty of spares and adding the stickers was really easy.
Good Lego
A good Lego model which I got for a great price.
Bought for my 15 year old son for his birthday and he found it fairly challenging – took a couple of days compared to a couple of hours.
Would recommend
The first logo kit I’ve built for 40+ years, I enjoyed the construction very much. But did not like the large amount of very cheesy stickers ( don’t use them the model looks way better without them) and the wheels look slightly out of scale. I’ve since bought more techinc kits and this one seems to be good value for money. The model is much bigger than I thought and didn’t fit on the shelf I had in mind , so I had to dismantle it for another time , this took 3 hours to bag into relevant parts. Overall bearing in mind I’m in my early 50’s I’m hooked on lego again , just like when I was kid.
A dream in reality, a reality in Lego. The Porsche 911 is one of the ultimate sports cars that any enthusiast must have. Provided with a detailed, well laid out, colourful ~500 step instruction booklet – I was able to successfully complete this Lego car.
A decision that some may say is controversial, I enjoyed not having the bags numbered. As a set targeted towards the older audience, I thought it provided more of a challenge than previous sets. I discovered that there were no missing pieces; and there was also some spare common Lego parts in case some did go astray which was pleasing to see.
The technic capabilities is appealing on completion. To see the moving parts and the in-built suspension really shows the detailed level that Lego and Porsche have concomitantly invested to deliver an impressive product.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed completing the Porsche 911 and had hours of entertainment. If you have a passion for cars and Lego then this set is definitely the perfect product for you.
Bought for a 12 year olds birthday, both him and his dad have enjoyed building this. It’s a great intro for kids who are interested in engineering. The instruction book is like 400 pages long, takes a while to build but he’s had great fun building it! I’m very impressed!
Great gif
Given as a gift to my car loving partner! Something different and a new challenge. We’ve also had to purchase 10+ plastic pots to aid sorting parts and building, highly recommend this! Plus the moving parts of the engine and steering are superb!
Great produc
Bought it as a present. It was a great gift.
It was good, but..
Great product. Shame it was so easy to build and only took 8 or so hours but it was still good fun to do in the evenings but now it is over I am not too fond of having to spend 100 quid+ each time for more models.
Its been 26 years since I’ve last bought Technic Lego and this is some good fun stuff, how its half the price of the orange variant i don’t know
Excellent addition to any collectio
Still finishing this build but it’s excellent. Not sure I’d pay 140 for it (I got it when amazon had it for 101 and I had 90 left on a voucher so only paid about 12 out of my own pocket! A worth addition to any Lego collection.
Lego Technics Car.
We all love Lego from big kids to little kids, Lego transcends ages with effortless simplicity. This Lego Technics car does tend to look small on the box but when built is quite a showpiece. I was quite impressed with size and detail. Well worth the money and yes I know Lego can be very expensive but this one surprised and delighted it’s very ardent Lego owner.
Fun build. Good value.
This was a fun build. Good playability. Nice pieces to add to our collection.
Excellent Model
Having previously purchased the Lego Porsche 911 GT3 model I was keen to buy this but wondered if it would be as good due to the difference in cost. I needn’t have worried as the kit looks great although it isn’t quite as detailed as its more expensive counterpart. I would definitely recommend this model.
Bought as a 77th birthday present for my husband. He loved it. Took him 2 hours a day for a week to put it together. He worked as,a mechanical engineer so he has an organised mind which you need to complete this car. Looks amazing when finished.. Well done Lego.
Excellent Lego se
Amazing Lego set… good fun to put together. Would recommend buying something to help organise the parts as the bags are not numbered, but I actually liked doing that, it made the build more enjoyable.
OMG, this is a must for any Lego/Porsche fa
My brother-in-law has a lovely Porsche, which is his pride and joy. So what better kit to build with him and my son than this awesome Porsche set?
It’s really complex, very accurately scaled, and its quite amazing to look at once its complete.
As with all of Lego’s sets, this one is designed with excellent attention to detail and its a quality product that we love constructing. (Its actually a shame to deconstruct it, so we have it on display at the moment).
5 stars.
Brilliant fun to assemble
Brilliant kept the whole family busy over Easter completed in two days
WOW! Fantastic piece of kit, worth every penny!
As expected…wow! For any die hard technic fan, the attention to detail is immense. Loved every minute putting this together. Build time was approximately 10 hours, was a little disappointed the bags weren’t numbered but it gave my 2 little ones a chance to help as we sorted into colours. You will not be disappointed if you decide to buy.
Lego love
set could be better presented by lego but otherwise a joy to play with
Great addition to the Lego Super Car collectio
It isn’t quite on par to the Porsche GT3 or Bugatti Charan, but it is a fantastic model and was fun to build.
I am a BIG fan of Lego and always looking for a good deal. I generally try and buy from the Official Lego Store, but could not resist this item as it was far cheaper on Amazon.co.uk there have been increasingly good deals on Amazon for Lego in recent times, so if you are a fan, well worth checking here as well.
A nice lego collection.
As a lego collector, this is a must have collection for every lego collector.
The only way is Lego
I have previous orange one from Lego and this 911 RSR will be fantastic addition for the Lego collection I have. This Lego Porsche is fantastic and so realistic. Highly recommended.
Superb model - the little brother of the iconic 911 model.
This is a very accessible and buildable kit – yes, it’s over 100 but compared to the Orange 911 – which along with the Bugatti – is in the upper echelons of Lego building, it’s much more achievable both financially but also in enjoyment of build and the quality of the end result.
Despite being simpler, it’s still a functionality rich and very interesting build, with the engine, suspension and details very well executed. You end up with a very big and playable model at the end too, which looks fantastic on the shelf or at play.
This is labelled as 10+ but I think it’s really more appropriate for the older teen builder – Lego have made nothing easy in this kit and the bags aren’t numbered – it’s traditional Technic Lego, all lumped together. The initial patience of categorising and sorting the pieces to make the subsequent build easier is not something that will likely come easily to a 10 year old.
That said, it’s a rewarding and interesting build which delivers a fantastic end result and well worth getting, even if you do already have the bigger editions.
Great choice
My 6 year old did this all by himself and looks great!
Good next delivery. Bags in the pack aren’t numbered or sorted like Bugatti, Mack truck etc… means the build needs more planning and endless tubs to sort coloured bricks into.
Modle : 5/5 !
Difficult : 3/4 (confirm, mais accessible).
P.S. : quand un partenariat avec Ferrari ?!
Amazing
Since receiving this, I’ve only just begun to have time to start building it, and it’s taking some time.
For anyone new to Lego Technic, this will prove an initial challenge – there are over 1500 pieces and each is small and specific to a portion of the car, but I imagine more experienced builders will thrive. I’m certainly relishing the experience.
Priced much more cheaply than other Technic series cars, this feels like a relative bargain (at 130 at time of review). Recommended for all Technic fans looking to expand their set.
Size wise
The size isn’t a big as the orange gt 3 rs
My Husband has recently discovered Technic despite myself and the Children having been Lego loons for a while now and its safe to say he has got the bug.
Age Suitability:-
This set is aimed at 10+ and it is a whopper of a build which really is aimed at the older builder especially as like with other Technic sets the parts bags are not numbered. If possible its best to take some time sorting by part and colour at the beginning of the build if you have somewhere to sort the parts such as some plastic trays etc as this does help to save some frustration parts hunting during the build.
Size:-
This is a large sized set and has 1580 pieces with some small spares. My Husband didn’t keep a note of how many build bags there were but thinks its was around 17 bags. There is also two large sticker sheets (52 stickers) and a thick instruction manual. The car when built measures 51cm long by 13cm high by 21cm including the wing mirrors as we have measured the car ourselves.
Features:-
The car has wheels that move when the steering wheel is turned, opening doors on each side and an opening boot where you can view the moving pistons inside when the car is pushed along.
A fantastic set which my Husband really enjoyed building and took him approximately 10 hours spread over a few weeks when he could do some building of an evening in between work etc. Once built it really does look amazing and apparently its not being dismantled for quite some time and looks great on display.
I have to confess to being a Lego amateur; while I have built and helped build my share of normal, brick-based Lego, I wasn’t aware until now that there is another Lego world of much greater sophistication and complexity. Be warned that this kit will take much more concentration and thought to complete than any of the brick-based kits I have seen.
The principle of construction here is different and much more flexible, allowing for a realism that you can’t achieve with normal Lego. Aesthetically that’s great but it means you have to know what you’re doing in putting the pieces together. Where brick Lego is, essentially, binary — either you are clicking together things that will click together, or they won’t join at all — this system allows you to connect things the wrong way around or the wrong way up, and it took us some trial and error to work out the right “feel” for the connections.
You will also want to be organised to put this kit together. The pieces are boxed up in a series of separate bags and it is very well worth keeping the pieces in those groupings for as long as you can. Many of the pieces are tiny, others look similar but have important differences and the initial sorting will help you with all of that. And there is an important instruction book without which we couldn’t even have started building this kit. It needs a big table or floor space, and it took us over 7 hours to build (but as noted, I have never tried anything like this before). We also found information online, including very helpful fan videos showing the assembly in detail.
Once built this is a big toy car and it is pretty robust. The steering wheel moves and turns the wheels, but the layout of the car makes it impossible of course to steer the car with it moving at any speed. I am no petrolhead but even to me this looks like a handsome and fairly convincing replica of the real thing. It is rated as 10+, but I think only a very experienced and confident 10-year-old would really cope with this unassisted.
High Class Design and Instructio
You expect a certain level of quality from Lego Technic- a feeling that you are building something brilliant and because you put it together, you feel a huge sense of achievement. Yes there are hundreds of pieces and yes they do look very similar, but part of the fun is solving it like a puzzle.
The instructions, on the whole, are very clear. It occasionally loses clarity due to the small number of colours. They could have bagged different sections up, but if your household is like mine, it all ends up in a carrier bag multiple times so that doesn’t bother me.
It’s take a family effort several days to complete, but it’s worth it as a group effort. If you prefer building alone, you will certainly enjoy it. And the finished product looks spectacular.
Awesome
This kit is the latest Porsche model from Lego and I have to say it is awesome. The box is full of bags of bits to make an incredibly detailed model car, accompanied by an instruction manual that is half an inch thick. The hundreds of pieces are all safely bagged in the box, ready for assembly. There are also the obligatory stickers to make it look absolutely authentic. The level of detail is astounding, with very finely detailed and authentic interior features, and a complex 6-cylinder engine with moving pistons. This is, of course, not a model to be taken to pieces and made into other things, it will be made up by the recipient (a Lego devotee) at Christmas and placed in his study and admired. It will give him immense pleasure in assembling this and adding it to his collection. For any great fan of Lego Technic, this is an absolute gem and, although not cheap at all, is one to treasure. If you cannot afford the real thing, this is surely next best!
This is the flagship LEGO Technic set for the first half of 2019. It’s a collaboration with Porsche, and so is an approved design, with official Porsche logo stickers etc. This isn’t LEGO’s first collaboration with Porsche – the stunning Ultimate Technic 911 GT3 RS is already available, but that is a seriously expensive and lavish set; this is very much a cut-down version of a similar car.
It’s around 1500 pieces – it’ll take an experienced builder several hours to complete. The build time is not helped by LEGO’s baffling decision to not pre-sort the pieces into numbered bags, which they do for most large kits these days – I’ve no idea why they opted not to do so for this set. The instructions run to just under 300 pages, and are the usual model of clarity you expect from LEGO.
The resulting build is a lot less sophisticated than the Ultimate Technic 911 – the main absence is the gearbox; this model hasn’t even got a simple gearbox. What you do get, though, is working suspension and steering, opening doors and engine cover, and an engine with moving pistons. The finished model is suitably large – just under half a metre long, so a bit smaller than the Ultimate 911 but a hefty chunk of LEGO nonetheless.
Most Technic sets have an optional set of instructions available for download to build a second model, but I can’t find any for this – I’d guess there aren’t many other Porsches that could be made with the same bits, but it’s still a bit of a shame that the set can only be used for one model rather than the usual two.
But that aside, of the larger Technic sets I’ve built, this is one of the better ones – it’s a nice replica of a Porsche racing car, and the finished model looks impressive, particularly with all the stickers applied. But the one you really want is the Ultimate Technic GT3 – this is a decent substitute, but not quite up there with the real thing!
This new-for-2019 set (actually available right at the end of 2018) is going to be a big hit with Lego fans I’m sure, as well as appealing to petrolheads who don’t have much Lego but really want the iconic Porsche 911 on their shelf or mantelpiece. And it’s deserved as well, as this is a great set that the Lego designers have put a lot of effort into.
In terms of build and moving parts, it has a large amount in common with the Rally Car set 42077 that we bought and built earlier this year, so I’m largely comparing it to that. There are a few rearrangements to make this new set look like the 911, but the moving parts (six-cylinder engine, lovely suspension) and the wheelbase are inherently the same. Yet remarkably, the 911 has over 50% more pieces in it (1580 compared to 1005). This is largely because the 911 is denser, with more ‘fiddly’ details required to make it closely resemble the real thing, and far more details in areas such as the densely-packed cabin. It’s also because the 911 ends up being a little bit longer- the curved nose of the 911 sticks out quite a bit further beyond the front wheels than the rally car. The result, when built, certainly looks like the 42077 rally car’s plush, posh cousin.
One key difference is that in the other set the steering wheel is just for show, and there’s a cog on top that really turns the wheels. In this set, the steering wheel inside the car really does turn the wheels. (That stick on top of the car is meant to be an aerial- it took me a minute to work that out!) That’s really smart from an engineering point of view and satisfying to build, but for anyone actually wanting to play with driving this set around their table or their floor, it’s actually a bit less convenient than having the top-mounted control. I imagine the Porsche Design team didn’t want a weird looking cog on top of their car though, which is understandable.
Building it is the usual immersive Lego joy, with the usual consistent and clear set of instructions throughout. Because it’s so densely packed then you need to pay quite a lot of attention, particularly when building the core of the car, as one wrong insertion unspotted could cause you major problems further down the line. My daughter and I ploughed through it at an enthusiastic speed and I wasn’t timing us, but it definitely took us less time than I would’ve expected a 1500 piece set to take.
It’s also got more stickers than any other Lego set I’ve ever seen, giving you a variety of novelty items like a rear-view camera, a James Bond-esque range of mysterious buttons and something that looks vaguely like a gearbox. Personally I’m not a big fan of Lego’s stickers as they always seem to be a shortcut towards messing things up, but that’s probably just me. Most confusing here is the fact that two of the stickers are completely white, and get stuck onto white panels on the roof of the car- I was convinced that was a mistake, but apparently it’s not!
Unlike its smaller cousin the rally car, there is no “2 in 1” option on this, so while if we ever got bored of the 42077 we could completely rebuild it as a beach buggy, this 911 predictably only has the one configuration- as though Lego are (unsurprisingly) expecting a lot of grown men to build it, put it on the display and never touch it again!
At time of writing I don’t know what the retail asking price on this 911 set will be. If you’re looking for a big fun Lego car to really play with, and which you’d let the kids loose with, then I think the (probably cheaper) 42077 Rally Car set would have the edge. If however you want to appreciate the iconic 911 design and this set is more for show, then this is a beautifully impressive set which is fun to make and which has some great details in it.
A premium item which will bring joy and pride to the petrolhead and/or Lego-head in your life.
I have to say my husband is a huge lego fan and as soon as this arrived he declared that his day off was now taken… He has built solidly for the last few hours and I have to say that although complex and clearly one for the older kids or ummmm grown adults this has turned out fantastically. Looks really good on display ( yes we have to display them as well) and is to legos normal standards. Considering some large sets and their costs I feel this one is a bargain. Fantastic for fans of both porsche and lego. You won’t be dissapointed with the end look or all those moving parts.
