Firstly, I’ve only filled it once for a one night camping trip, worked wonders, I like the design and durability, this would be great for truck camping/ RVing, offgrid living, etc. not recommended for backpacking.. it’s heavy. If you’re looking at this I recommend getting the one that comes with the hose, you could shower with this! The water pressure is amazing.

The first thing you want in a disaster is clean water and shelter from elements. This will provide plenty of clean water and you don’t have to stack plastic bottles that are bad for the environment if single use. Keep a rain barrel or two hooked up to your downspout and you are ready. In dry months you can put a bucket under your shower when waiting for water to warm up (clean water) and then dump that daily in your rain barrel for emergency supply fill up. You might also look at this company’s portable bottle. Good if you have to move and can not carry bigger device with you.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI carry this in my Jeep along with my other water and emergency gear. It meets NSF Protocol 231 based on recommendations of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at minimum. LifeSaver purifiers filter bacteria to a minimum of Log 6 (99.9999%), Viruses to a minimum of Log 4 (99.99%) and Cysts to a minimum of Log 3 (99.9%).
The pump is great and product solidly built As with all my gear that have screw on caps or connections, I lube the threads with https://smile.amazon.com/Hayward-SPX0327-1-Ounce-Jacks-Multilube/dp/B00CG4GMTG/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=pool+lube&qid=1568058432&s=gateway&sr=8-5 to prevent any leakage.

Has been sitting, waiting, for 2 years now. One day I’ll need it, and then I’ll wish I could have given it 10/5 stars.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis life saver water filtering system could be a lifesaver in the event of any disaster. I live in the Northwest …. just a matter of time.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIn my location we have hurricanes and other kinds of weather that for want of a better description-just gets hostile. The water mains are forever being broken by a maintenance crew or just giving way due to age and the “boil water” advisories are out more often than we want. Having gotten this one and given it a trial run, after priming , in the local spring fed, fresh water lake; the water seems clean and fresh. So, brew coffee with it or make hot chocolate. A sizable percentage of light-weight field and camping rations, dried beans and rice need to be re-hydrated. The Jerry can gives you the ability to have adequate water for a family unit or small base camp-without chemicals or boiling. It’s really very nice to have; and in a “Katrina” situation, keep you from having to forage far and wide for clean water. Obviously, in this era, that is a safer option.

I haven’t used this yet as it is in my earthquake kit here in California. I have talked to others who have use it and they are impressed. I am hoping to not have to use it but we will see.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersYou can check the top review. . . find out what it does. You can go to youtube and see it in action, how it works, how it is used. I saved up and made it a point to acquire this. 20,000 gallons of safe water in this format, this size, sealed. All you have to do is read the news of the water contamination, the storms or anything that makes the water unsafe (WV river that was polluted badly comes to immediate mind). I think of this as a safety investment. The ace in the hole that lets me not have the problems should something (disaster) happen. Water is the first priority . .to all humans. I wanted a no joke solution. This is no joke.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersIf you are going to be in a situation or environment where your not sure if a water source is safe to drink this is a good option for filtering it to a very safe and clear standard,it can turn dirty puddle water into bottle quality in minutes and will handle up to 20,000 litres depending on how clear or dirty the water source.

Golden Review Award: 55 From Our UsersThe Lifesaver filter appears to be the only mechanical filter on the market that is also capable of filtering viruses due to the very small 0.015 micron filter size as compared to other well known and reliable systems such as the Katadyn Pocket water filter which has a 0.2 micron Silver Ceramic filter cartridge. The Katadyn Pocket filter fact sheet also mentions that the mechanical 0.2 micron filter can also filter radioactive particles which are larger than 0.2 microns. The Lifesaver will probably have even better performance filtering radioactive particles greater than 0.015 microns. A radioactive particle at 0.015 microns diameter will have 2700 times less radioactive potential than a 0.2 micron particle.
The Lifesaver system is probably the best CBRN water filter commercially available. Even the bacterial reduction performance shows a very impressive Log 7.5 reduction. In reality that is getting to the point when no individual bacteria can be measured passing through the filter. Other conventional filters including UV systems such as the Steripen are being measured in Log 3-4 reduction i.e. Hundreds to thousands of times less effective.

Filter lifetime seems to be impressive as well available in 10,000 and 20,000 liter capacity. For a family of 4 that would mean over 660/1320 gallons or 660/1320 days continuous use. (assuming 1 gallon of drinking water per person per day and depending on which filter used).

When comparing the cost of the Lifesaver Jerry Can against other filtration systems such as the Katadyn Expedition or Endurance grade filters with the additional expense of a UV system that would be needed for the deactivation of viruses and even the water carrier itself i.e. the actual Jerry Can that would be required to transport it, then the Lifesaver Jerry Can is probably very cost effective considering the claimed performance. The Lifesaver Jerry Can will perform all three steps in one simple device.

It also works excellent for car a or vehicle camping water filter and storage solution as well as a device which can be tucked away unused in the garage or basement ready for a domestic water emergency (domestic water supply availability is subject to electrical power outages in many areas).

Enough theory, how does it work? Well, it works flawlessly! I have used this system a dozen or so times while SUV camping, hunting and even once during a water boil advisory when the power was out and there was no way for me to boil the water (thanks to hurricane Sandy) Another use I managed to find for this is a pressurized camp shower! Lifesaver makes a shower attachment and the dark blue color of the 20,000 liter unit is dark enough to heat the water significantly when left in the sun. You could imagine the relief of a semi hot, pressurized camp shower.

    Summary:
The unit is effective against 99.9% of all bacteria, virus and even claimed to be effective against chemical and radiological hazards.
There is an added benefit to a camp shower when desired. That is a major perk for me.
In the space of one Jerry Can, which is how I already store water, I now have filtering capability.
Simple to use. Fill, pump, drink.
    DURABLE, DURABLE, DURABLE!

The cost is steep, but put it into perspective:
    1 Jerry can ~ $50.00
    1 Name brand filter ~ $150.00
    1 Steripen ~ 100.00
    —————————–
Total cost of 3 items needed to be as effective as one Lifesaver? $300.00
    Total space/weight savings = priceless

Overall this is a SOLID 5 STAR ITEM. I look forward to many years of use from this device and so far it has served quite handy.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI have a variety of filters, but the Lifesaver (so far – stay tuned for updates) works as advertised; which, if you read the advertising material, is quite a feat.

The price I paid here on Amazon was higher than if I purchased direct from LifesaverSystems (I discovered only after I used the Jerry can).

I don’t know yet how it does so much with what appears to be a rather simple filter, but I’ve processed some mildly turbid water from a less than mountain pure source (lower Tonto Creek while on a trip) and not only am I still here, but I will continue to test it on progressively worse sources until I trust it for just about anything.

I certainly prefer the lifesaver over gravity filters, however I do hope they make some minor changes to the shape of the Jerrycan,or provide “feet” to make the can it bit more stable (it rocks left to right while sitting upright)

Bottom line is that, so far, I would recommend this filtration system to friends and family. I simply wish that it was a bit less expensive and that the other Lifesaver products were available on Amazon (not much available here as of July 2013)

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI have been waiting patiently for awhile to get one of these, since they are usually unavailable on amazon. When one popped up as available, I grabbed it right away. The reason I did is easy, I did my math. If you look at the cost per gallon, liter, whatever, and compare this to any other filter that has the ability to filter out the bad stuff, you will quickly see that this is by far the cheapest option. Additionally, the fact that it is a JerryCan is helpful for me as well, since I can put it in my jerry can rack on my camper, and have water whenever I need it.
Once I got it, (was super-amazed at the lightspeed delivery from the UK) I of course opened up and checked it out. Usually, I don’t like to read instructions, but in this case decided it might be helpful, and luckily I did. When you go to use it for the first time, you need to prime it and clean it out. The whole set up process took maybe 5 minutes, and now I am ready to filter 5,300 gallons of water when I go camping. I imagine it will take quite a while to use that amount, but it is nice to know that it is there when I need it.

Golden Review Award: 43 From Our UsersI purchased the lifesaver Jerry can in August of last year and what can I say but awesome…

I used it all through the summer on camping trips in tents, campers and my RV. It preformed flawlessly, whether filtering lake water or pond water or rain water it did it’s job and kept me and up to 7 other people hydrated through some pretty long camping trips.

After the season was over, I unpacked it, cleaned it thoroughly (as per the instructions) and put it in my kitchen for the winter.
It was about mid winter when my wife decided to start buying bottled water (she is pregnant with our second child) well I had the bright idea to start filtering our tap water with the lifesaver and at just a cent or two per liter, man was that a great idea! Clean, pure drinking water made right there in our kitchen! We filter a gallon or two at a time and just top off the Jerry can each time we use it.

I am telling you, this unit is amazing, if you keep the carbon filters changed every so often then you will have the best drinking water available.

And talk about easy to use! My 2 year old girl thinks it’s a game, she pumps it for us whenever we will let her and she fills the 1 gallon jugs that we keep in the fridge for drinking. How about that!
I mean it is practically effortless and anyone can learn to use it properly in just about a minute.

If you are looking for a great “base camp” water filter like I was when I found the life saver jerrycan, then this is the unit for you, and if you are looking for a family sized water filter for survivalism then this is the unit for you, but most importantly if you are looking for a quick, easy way to provide yourself and your family with clean, fresh, pure drinking water every day and in any situation…

Then this is the unit for you!
