Ken onion work sharp alternative.
Works just fine. Make sure you follow the detailed instructions provided. Have sharpened lots of knives to a ‘shave the hairs on my arm’ finish with it so I will need to order some more belts soon. Never owned a work sharp so can’t compare the two.

Just purchased practiced on a few old knifes . So far so good . Will write a more accomplished review. Once I have used it on more expensive knives

Used once.. all my old blunt knives really sharp now.. probably could have spent a bit more time on them and got them razor sharp.. but they are perfect for my needs as they are.
Watch a few of the yout*be videos first .. you won’t go wrong. Very happy with this purchase.
Easy to change belts. If you really want to have razor sharp cutting edges you need to have 5,000 / 6,000 grit or leather belts than the belts supplied where the 4 different belts were between 180 and 1,000. Simple to sharpen tools as well as knives.
Sharpens blades like a dream.
This blade sharpener is excellent. I’ve now used it on a range of kitchen knives and scissors and must admit it’s the best sharpener I’ve ever used.
It’s imperative that you follow the instructions and use the different graded sandpaper, in sequence, to achieve optimal results.
Very highly recommended.
First time usage
I have just sharpened my Global knife collection and after studying the blade edges before and after usage I am very impressed with the simplicity of the sharpening and the nice appearance of the edges, not to mention how sharp they were, throughout the range of knives. I also purchase a spare set of belts and was pleasantly surprised how little usage was on the belt after ten times on each side for each knife for a really nice sharp edge. Very easy to master drawing the knife through at a steady pace but noticed with the small paring knife it tended to slip at the end of the draw through through lack of blade length, but that can be easily compensated for. Overall the best sharpener I have used from Amazon, which include whetstones and draw through suction cup sharpeners.

Proper knife sharpener but CHEAP
I have a few nice kitchen knives but can’t find any automated way of sharpening rather than the whetstone. I didn’t want to spend over 200 on the Ken Onion but i did have a punt on this and it is ace. Take the time to go through all of the grits and your knives end up like razors
Superb
This is absolutely brilliant. The edge you can achieve is stunning. Even on a slightly battered old axe, after patiently honing the edge through the grits it is now razor sharp. Genuinely surprised and impressed with the quality of the edges you can get. really easy to set up, although the first time you swap the belt is a bit tricky as the instructions are not 100% clear, but do it a couple of times and you will easily get the hang of it. Not sure I can recommend this enough really…….
Handy little tool for handymen perso
I’m a busy DIY person and this amazing tool came very handy to many times.
As said by others, this is a great sharpener. I was looking at the Worksharp Ken Onion or the WS v2 but both are a little out of my budget as a non-pro and just wanted for taking care of a few kitchen knives and pocket knives.
The kit supplied is pretty decent. A good selection of belts are included which appear to be decent quality – the Worksharp ones look to be a direct swap once these are spent as they are the same width and length overall.
You can see how they have cut the price down versus the WS Ken Onion version – all plastic construction vs metal (particularly around the motor housing) it just all feels a bit like a cheap power tool in comparison. The duty cycle (amount of time it can run in an hour) is comparatively low versus the competition, however it does the job very well, it was easy to use once I got the hang of it and watching some videos of the alternative item – the instructions in the box just don’t really detail how to use it properly by a long way! Functionally the same as the Ken Onion version, so worth reading their far more detailed guide to get the knack of how to use it.
I did my knife block of kitchen knives in about an hour including learning how it worked – 6 knives of various sizes, and did each one starting with the lowest grit belt to get rid of some knicks and shape them at 20 degrees one by one. Then refined each in turn finishing with 1000 grit belt. I found it easiest to just do all of them before changing the belt for the next, though it is quite easy to change the belts once you get the hang of it.
All in all, very happy with the sharpener it has got my good quality Sheffield steel knives beyond how they arrived originally – they are “cat claw” sharp including the points to the point they basically cut into the foam packaging this came in with just the lightest of touches.
We will see how long it lasts and I also plan to try the grinding mode on my lawnmower and brush cutter blades once the good weather returns.

Wow delighted in how quickly I achieved razor sharp kitchen knives. Yes the instructions are pants but you only need to watch a couple work sharp YouTube vids and you know exactly what to do. When this little beauty can save you 80 versus a work sharp the poor quality instructions are a minor detail.
Only used twice, easy to use and adjust angle. Quick to get a new edge on the knife.
Only down side is that you can only run the unit for 20 mins at a time so I couldn’t get all my knives done in one sitting.
Great knife sharpener for the price. Seems very similar to Ken onion sharpener but less than half the price. Instructions not great but there are plenty of demo videos of similar sharpeners on YouTube. Sharpened up all my kitchen knives brilliantly.
This is an excellent knife sharpener. You can get brilliant results and turn your dull kitchen knives back to ‘out of factory’ sharpness. However, the instructions for use are woefully inadequate. This machine is very similar to the WorkSharp knife sharpener and is alomost half the cost of of the Ken Onion Work Sharp machine but can do much the same. This would have been given 5 stars had the machine been accompanied by a decent manual. I would strongly reccommend that you look at videos and manuals for the Work Sharp Ken Onion machine BEFORE you use this sharpener.The machine and operations are very similar but you need to understand the techniques for sharpening your knives. I would also recommend using a less expensive knife to practice and master the techniques. It does’t take long but will help you to get the best out of this knife sharpener.
Knives like razors!
Brilliant piece of kit. Pleased I bought this model as it appears to do more than similar priced competitor and as much as a more expensive competitor.
There was a voucher available when I boought this that took and unexpected 41 off the price so absolutely delighted.
I sharpened a series of nives just using the 320 and 600 grit strips very sharp and perfecct for the kitchen knife rack. I polished up a couple with the 1000 grit and then gave a short stropping to create a razor/factory equivalent finish. Brilliant job – buy one!
