Lodge 43.18 cm / 17 inch Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Round Skillet / Frying Pa
Saute, sear, fry, bake and stir fry to heart’s content
Use & Care:
While the skillet comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After cooking, we recommend cleaning with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap or the dishwasher is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Towel dry immediately cleaning and apply a light coating of oil to utensil while it is still warm.
Lodge Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron Skillet
Pre-seasoned skillet is ready-to-use right out of the box
The black patina given to the cookware by the factory seasoning process is, in fact, vegetable oil that has been baked into a piece of cookware that has emerged from an individual sand mould. This coating of oil is a functional application and not a cosmetic application. The cookware is hanging as it rides through the electrostatic sprayer and commercial conveyor ovens at very high temperatures. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the pores of the iron which creates an easy release finish. As a result of this process, you may see a blister or bubble of oil at the southern-most point or at the end of the handle of the cookware piece. If visible, it will rub or flake off with your finger, leaving a brown spot. Don’t worry, it’s not rust but a seasoned spot that is brown, indicative of the varnish stage of seasoning. As a matter of fact, this is the colour of home seasoned iron until it has been used several times. The brown spot will turn black with use.

Eco-Responsibility
Lodge is a zero hazardous waste stream foundry. Lodge designed a vegetable oil recycler for the seasoning process to reduce waste and unusable oil is recycled and used as biodiesel generator. Reuse of foundry sand used in the casting process is recycled and unusable sand, works to purify the water of the local streams and planting trees to improve air quality and beautification.
The Clean Water and Air Acts of 1970 led American companies to install new equipment to meet the pollution control laws. Not only did the updates meet the requirements of the Clean Air and Water legislation, by 1976 our automated processes produced as many moulds in an hour as one man’s daily productivity 30 years earlier.
With the switch from antiquated electric furnaces to more efficient induction furnaces, 1991 proved to be a pivotal juncture in the green standards of Lodge Manufacturing Company. The use of magnetic energy to produce heat changed our status from a Large Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste to a Small Quantity Generator, and we received the 1994 Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction.
100 years & still cooking. ..
Lodge is the oldest family-owned cookware foundry in America. Since 1896, the Lodge family has been casting premium iron cookware at our Tennessee foundry. Starting with raw materials and finishing with our seasoning process, we continue to improve on the highest quality standards that go into every piece we make. As the sole American manufacturer of cast iron cookware, we are proud to carry on the legacy started by founder Joseph Lodge. Lodge doesn’t just make cast iron; we make heirlooms that bring people together for generations.
Two historic events—the introduction of foundry seasoned cast iron cookware and the recent expansion of our foundry—represent dynamic examples of Lodge Manufacturing Company’s century-plus commitment to product innovation and investment in new equipment and technologies.
Seasoned cast iron propelled Lodge from the position of a regional manufacturer to the national stage, with Good Housekeeping presenting a ‘Good Buy’ Award for the product enhancement. Our appearance on the national stage expanded throughout the first decade of the new century, with record sales leading Lodge to the largest expansion in our history.
While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.
In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honour of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.
As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practises. Work was labour intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.
The 1950s saw the installation new moulding machinery, mechanised sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminium furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mould impressions and a machine to clean castings.
When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic moulding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic moulding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.
After in the introduction of seasoned cast iron cookware, Lodge broke ground for our foundry expansion. With completion of the first phase in the fall of 2014, the expansion includes a new melt system, an additional pouring/molding line and most importantly—new American jobs!
In more ways than he could have ever imagined, Joseph Lodge would not recognise the business he started over a century ago. Lodge continues to be family owned and we are the sole manufacturer of cast iron cookware in US, producing over 120 different foundry seasoned cast iron items for worldwide gourmet, outdoor and restaurant markets.
More importantly, Lodge Manufacturing Company is universally accepted as the world leader in the cast iron cookware category.

Amazing creation this. You can use it for frying, baking, burglars, camp fires. The Jamie Oliver pizza made in this US beauty is the best she’s ever made! Don’t buy if you have a weak wrist though…
Works really well especially after I seasoned it more and now I cook with it every day
Good size. Useful silicone handle. Didnt need seasoning. A pan to last a lifetime.
We have been using this small skillet for a while now and I have to say we are very pleased with it.
It is small, so is enough for 1 person. Great for making eggs in. Makes a lovely fluffy omelette.
Easy to clean and season. Definitely recommend.
always being high quality as usual, this is the third cast iron pan I own. Supper easy to maintain. And this one is the right size I need. Others normally quite big
Bought this for egg cooking mainly, bit small for the size steaks I eat, but I knew that before I bought.
Product arrived promptly, same day as it arrived it was cleaned, and straight into cooking omelettes, no issues with any sticking. Did 3 omelettes on the run just just added a bit of cooking butter between.
Wiped clean after last omelette, re-seasoned. Now ready for next use.
Quality cast iron frying pan.
Oven proof, dishwasher safe and will last a lifetime.
A good buy.
I think that my headline says it all, very pleased.
Nothing to dislike.
Wait for the periodic discounts / free shipping
Well made,
Pre seasoned,
Expensive yes, worth it ?
Every penny
Very happy
Use this cast iron skillet for oven cooking cornbread. Gives a great result when preheated in oven before adding batter. Cornbread doesn’t stick, needs seasoning before first use.
Heavy iron cast with good quality. Do take into account the weight so not for pancakes as not possible to lift but excellent for any other fry veg, meat and eggs… Unfortunately the handle red cover dose not completely protect you from heat so you will need extra protection if you need to lift up hot cas
It was slightly deeper than the pan it replaced, this can only be good. I loved the little silicon removable handle.
I absolutely love it. You can see the quality straight away!
Very nice and sturdy pan… my only criticism is the weight but considering it’s cast iron you expect this.
love it, cleans easily, heats evenly, and can go from hob to oven. love i
Very pleased with skillet. Solid and well made. Heat is evenly distributed across the base.
Bought as a gift. It is already well used and loved!
Seasoned it once before use based on other reviews. Wonder how have lived without this for so long
Early days yet but already showing it’s versatility. Easy to clean provided you follow the simple instructions
Another Lodge cast pan to my collection.
Perfect for a multitude of cooking experiences.
Highly recommend Lodge cast iron pans
I needed small pan to fit my raclette grill and this one is perfect! It keeps hot, is heavy so no one will accidentally knock it off. I’m super happy
Bought as present. They love it. Read the reviews online and that’s why we bought it. Doesn’t disappoint. Had it shipped from America no problems. Delivery was quicker than expected which is always a pleasant surprise.
Lovely quality. Great for cooking a multitude of things. (I originally bought this for cookie dough.) Would 100% recommend.
This is the first cast iron I ever got and its amazing, at this price it really is a must for anyone that likes cooking
Very happy with pan. Easy to use and clean. Cooks food lovely. Quick delivery. Would recommend.
I received this very quickly and it is very durable. Will definitely recommend it. I had to return it however because I ordered a very small size, which is only good for one person 🙂
This is my third different lodge pan and they are all really good straight out of the box. Looking forward to getting many years of great use out of this – it may even outlast me!
Great iron pan. Would recommend oiling and heating it before first use. As long as it’s looked after properly, it will last a lifetime.
Fully satisfied. Product Quality and the functionality is better than expected.
Note: packaging was bit too loose and the handle was protruding out from the box but fortunately it wasn’t damaged.
Probably one of the best frying pans around delivery was very quick I am at a reasonable price with the discount as Amazon had it on sale which made it 27 a Bargain at that price
Does not work on my induction hob. Size is a little too small for much use.
This is my first cast iron pan, and I love it. Will never cook steak on anything else. Highly recommend one of these to anyone who is either a foodie or progressing to become one!
First cast iron skillet. Decided to buy a good one and after getting to grips with the low and slow technique I find this really makes food taste great. Steak, Fish, Burgers & Eggs so fa
Great for frying meat and very easy to clean. After washing, heat it up and spread a bit of oil to avoid rusting. Also it gets really hot so I recommend getting the silicone handle.
It’s a great product. Once you go cast iron, you don’t go back. I use mine every single day.
As with any cast iron skillet needs to be seasoned & cleaned appropriately. Good quality and price. Not a fancy as Staub but a great all rounder that can even be called into action on the bbq
Bought this a few months ago due to me needing more iron in my diet.
This has worked great. Keep it clean, make sure its dry and oiled up, it will last you.
Works great and cooks wonderfully. If something start to stick, add more oil.
I am very happy with this pan. There was no toxic fumes on first use. Quality seems great. It works for pancakes; non-stick and improved texture. My pasta sauces have better flavor. It’s taken my cooking to the next level
My favourite pan!! Easy to look after once you know how and it builds up a natural nonstick coating. My go to pan for frying anything.
Love it! This pan is just right for an omelette and for when you’re cooking small quantities. I have a number of lodge cast iron skillets and will continue to purchase more, They make a big difference to cooking and I shall replace my conventional non stick and other pans for the cast iron range. I’ve had no problems with food sticking and have found them easy to clean and maintain. Cant wait to get my next one.
Not sure why I bought it – just as some sort of weird completionist thing (I have about 5 lodge pans). I have fried a singular tofu chicken nugget in it – and it did the job admirably…but the nugget was horrible – tofu ain’t my thing. I suppose it would be possible to fry a quails egg in this, or a small mushroom.
It’s too small to be really useful but I think it’s great anyway!
Love these pans. Once you know how to use them they are easy to use and clean.
I don’t ever buy into the whole “pre-seasoned” thing, so first thing I did was season it myself. Took to it really, well, pan now feels incredible, and nothing sticks. The heat distribution is fantastic, and whether I’m using it on the electric hob or in the oven, it works well.
Cooking in cast iron skillet adds iron to human body
Absolutely brilliant for fried/baked eggs. I do hear (frequently) of people getting eggs stuck in cast iron, but this just doesn’t happen at all for me. The versatility is limited given their size, but I bought them to cook eggs in and they’re brilliant at tha
I love Lodge pans. I have 2 smaller Lodge skillets and recently bought a very large skillet from a different manufacturer. It was a good deal cheaper but although OK the quality is not the same. So for this purchase I returned to Lodge and I am delighted. We use our Lodge skillets frequently.
Great pan with even heat when cooking. Love that I can use it in the oven too (although not tried that yet). Be aware, it is pretty heavy! Make sure you dry it immediately after washing it to avoid rust. I did cure mine in the oven before use – you can google how to do that.
ice little pan did not think it would be this small could do a fried egg possibly other than that not a lot else
I’ve put off buying cast iron for years as I always thought it would be a hassle to look after them. I was wrong. this is probably the best kitchen item I own, and I use it several times a day. The non-stick properties are great, and care is simple, just rub a little oil into it after cleaning (I use lard). RECOMMENDED!!!!!!
I love it, it’s very a small frying pan great for frying eggs
Durable item we use on a wood burning stove, retains heat does a great job.
Love it. Quite small but cooks like magic. Quite some smoke but it is hot and retains heat.
Watching a YouTube video quickly rectified any issue with food sticking. I found it best to sand off some pre seasoning on the pan with 80 grit sandpaper (only so some silver shows through). This will smoothen out the pan. Then re season following the video. I used standard vegetable oil and now can cook eggs with no trouble!
Very good product, heavy duty, easy to clean with the right tools. You’ll need to buy a scraper and a handle cover if you want as the handle gets very hot. You also need to season it after using it. Quite heavy too. If you can put up with all of that then this is a very good purchase.
There’s really nothing more to be said. It s a very well made skillet and came well seasoned. After 5 or 6 meals, the seasoning got better (I use olive oil to keep it) and even an egg doesn’t stick to it.
Good quality! Everyone who knows how to use it properly will be very satisfied
A great little pan for re-heating things, searing and general cooking. It is on the small side, so more of a personal pan: good for preparing a single (medium-sized) pork chop or burger patty – or for reheating a meal for one. Easy to store, easy to clean, easy to maintain – just make sure you look up how to care properly for this little beauty and you’ll get years out of her.
Lodge is the absolute best skillet I have bought so far – it is a fantastic product well built and exactly what I had expected when I orderde it. Delivery was fast so overall a very pleasant experience
Lodge make great iron, and this pan is great. Should last a lifetime if treated with love and attention. Love it.
The best one I have ever had. Only 4 stars because very heavy for me. Too heavy for one hand.
Excellent, I’ve used it a few times now (for puddings and meals) and it’s been great. Cleans very easily.
Bought the smaller one a year ago, that one is brilliant for most meals as I am usually by myself. This bigger one is equally brilliant for those times I cook for more people, or am cooking dishes that require different pans. Absolutely brilliant pan! The one thing to be aware of is that since it is cast iron it’s a bit more heavy than a teflon pan, for example, but I much prefer pure cast iron.
very little but perfect ofr frying a few spices – made a nice extra to a indian recipe book.
his is my first LODGE, that is great.
then I buy other small size 6inch.
